Dobbs Ferry Animal Hospital is a professional and expert practice with a pleasant, neighborly approach to customer service.Dr Mendelsohn is an excellent veterinarian. Its obvious he knows his stuff and you always feel like youre getting a considered opinion backed by years of experience. If it happens he comes across a case hes not familiar with, he wont try to fake it. Hell tell you outright and commit to finding a solution for you.He has a congenial manner and theres no doubt he cares about his patients. And for the fees he charges youre getting high quality care at an incredibly reasonable price (especially if youve ever had to deal with vets in Manhattan).Would thoroughly recommend this practice to all pet owners.
My prior honest, negative review about this business was removed. Apparently, businesses can remove reviews they don’t like from Google. I’m sure this one will be removed soon too!Bottom line: This vet is not honest with his pricing. It is grossly overinflated, often by 300%. I did my research and even verified this with one of his vendors. Stay away from this business unless money does not matter to you. I had to bring my cat to another vet to continue her care because I just couldn’t afford it here. Unfortunately, those who may not know his prices for procedures/labwork/medications are triple the actual cost may give up on their pets due to the expense. This does not help animals. If I can help one person or pet with this review, it will be worth it!
Saved my dogs life! Dr. Mendelson and his staff are kind, considerate, and understanding. This is my daisy one day after surgery.

The vet is kind & skillful. The staff is amazing. They are so good that I drive 20 miles to get here.I gave this rating a few years ago, and I still drive 20 miles to get there! Dr. Mendelsohn and his staff are wonderful!Its now 2021 & Im still driving my two dogs to see Dr. Mendelsohn. Last summer in the midst of the pandemic my 9 year old dog needed dental surgery and I was scared that she wouldnt come out of the anesthesia. The doctor and his assistant were kind and patient with me and my dog (who was fine). If you can get to Dobbs Ferry then you should take your pets to him.
They are wonderful. The whole team is knowledgeable and helpful. They’ve taken care of my dog and cat for years and give exceptional care. Dr Gary is so kind and never rushes you- he answers questions patiently and thoroughly. I’m very confident in his care and would recommend him without reservation.

I have been using Dobbs Ferry Animal Hospital for over 15 years! I would never go anywhere else. Dr. Mendelson, Susan and the entire staff are kind, understanding, empathetic and very knowledgeable. I work with many rescue organizations as well and always recommend them to our new fosters and adopters in the area. I cannot recommend them enough, and I do often!
My pets have been patients of Dr Gary and Christina Mendelsohn for years and I would not trust their care to anyone else. They are knowledgable, compassionate doctors that give excellent care to their patients. They listen to your concerns and discuss treatment options. They go above and beyond to make sure your pet is receiving exceptional, individualized care. I would highly recommend them for your veterinarian needs.
Dobbs Ferry Animal Hospital is a classic vet practice, run by people who love their own pets and are devoted to animal care. I find their advice always practical, commonsensical, and grounded in the choices families face when taking care of their pets. Their prices are reasonable and they dont up-sell.
I don’t have the words to fully acknowledge how much we love EVERYONE at Dobbs Ferry Animal Hospital. Our dog Bruno has been saved and taken care of so many times over the last 13 years. He is so loved and we are treated so well. Dr. Mendelsohn is a knowledgeable vet, amazing surgeon and has always managed to calm me down during each and every step of having our dog. I moved to northern Westchester over 11 years ago from down county and we still (and always will) make the trip to come here. You guys are a part of our family and we thank you each and every day for all the love, amazing vet medicine and compassion you have given us for over a decade.
Our first time there and very impressed. Our pet got a thorough exam and the doctor reviewed all the info with us via phone due to covid...we were in the car outside. Her advice seems to have addressed our issue even though its only been a few hours! She gave us personal time and attention despite having a parking lot full of other patients. Highly recommend.
I’ve been bringing my cat here for the past 2 years and have had nothing but pleasant experiences. The staff here has always been great and they are very knowledgable. My cat had to have surgery about 6 months ago and the doctor and staff were very understanding on my concerns and addressed all my questions. Kitty is now doing better than ever at 12 years old thanks to Dr. Mendelsohn and his experienced staff. I appreciate the straight forwardness that is provided and if I wasn’t moving to a different state, would certainly continue bringing my cat here.
Dr Mendelsohn and Julio were awesome. I brought my two cats in for their annual exam and shots, and they were quite patient and engaging with them and me. I told Dr Mendelsohn I was considering getting a dog and he recommended certain breeds for me. This was my first time meeting him, and I was very happy with the visit.
This is a very nice, welcoming little clinic. I took my cat here, and he was examined and treated with gentleness, and professionalism. Dr. Mendelsohn is a fantastic professional and the front office is very helpful. Id highly recommend this place to pet owners who need quality veterinary services.
I cannot say enough wonderful things about Dr Mendelsohn. The office is warm and friendly - not complicated. Dr Mendelsohn takes extra time to provide very detail information and specific instruction. His pricing is fair and competitive. Been going to Dr. Mendolson for years. I trust him completely with the welfare of my cats. The staff is efficient and nice. They suffered a great loss last year when Paul, the office manager, passed away tragically. I am sure it has been very very difficult for all . I feel very comfortable bringing my fur babies to the office! I love Madison... the resident bird and her two side-kicks! Nice that Dr. Mendelson also treats all kinds of animals... not just cats and dogs!
I have been bringing my dog to Dr. Mendelsohn since he was a pup. He is now 15 years old. The staff is highly professional and competent, but as importantly, incredibly compassionate and caring about the animals (and the people who love them). I trust Dr. Mendelsohns judgement and skill completely.

First time here. We had a Great experience! Dr Mendolshon and his team are so personable you can tell that they really care about your pet and any concerns you may have. Our kitten that we just purchased wasnt feeling well. We called the closet vet to us but they told us it would be a few days until they can see our snowball. We then called Dobbs Ferry Animal Hospital and they scheduled us right away! We are Very Grateful for Dr. Mendolshon and his team!

Brought our dog in, she was peeing very frequently, sometimes with blood - Got quick last-minute appt. Dr. Mendelsshon, Susan and Samantha were all super nice, very professional, informative, generous with time, thorough, and pricing was fair. Issue was diagnosed and resolved.
Dr. Mendelsohn is a pro and I’d recommend him to anyone! Treated my guinea pigs and offered some very useful recommendations to help them get better. Very reasonable prices especially compared so others in the area.

I took my cat Flora Joy here, and ended up loving the staff, Sue, Jose and Dr. Mendelsohn. While there, I met a couple who had just brought in their adorable dog named Bambi, who was very sick. I do not know what treatment she received. but the couple seemed a little less nervous about her after the visit, and it seemed that they had been going to Dr. Mendelsohn for years.This was my first trip, so I was very nervous myself, but I liked Dr. Mendelsohn from the very first moment I met him. He and his assistant Jose were so gentle with Flora, and very loving too. it made my heart happy.Only two things to be aware of: Dr. Mendelsohn has wonderful birds, one of whom was free to climb around in the office. If you are allergic to birds, you might want to take a Clarity beforehand. But do know that the birds are gentle and friendly.The second thing is that the steps leading up to Dr. Mendelsohns office are very steep. If I had not had a younger friend with me who carried my very dear but overweight cat up and down the stairs for me, I would have had difficulty. But I do believe that if you were to call the office from outside the office, upon arrival, that Jose would be more than happy to come outside and help you up and down the stairs.Overall, a very special place, and Jose and Dr. Mendelsohn are wonderful!!!
We consistently get expert care and true kindness for our precious dog at DFAH. This morning we had an emergency situation. The receptionist told us to come right down. Dr. Mendelsohn and Jose immediately treated the problem and our pup is now on the mend. With much gratitude. The Halee Family

Have been bringing our pets here for over 10years. The staff here is wonderful and trustworthy! Dr. Mendelsohn is fantastic, and knowledgable of a wide range of animals.
They take good care of your pet medically-speaking, but as a heads up, they will not approve online orders of prescription food over the phone (not even during a pandemic). You will need a physical prescription. They do not send you home with it at the actual appointment it unless you know to ask for it. They didnt let us know this, so I thought it was important to get the word out during this pandemic when a lot of us are avoiding physical stores for medical reasons. I am deciding between going to a pet store while pregnant or putting my cat back on regular food for the next week or so. Oh and they will also charge you $5, but chewy.com will reimburse you.

Our Buddy was very sick. Needed to be on IV and spend the night. Dr. Let us know that they did not have night staff. But told us he would take our Buddy home with him to take care of him.

Very very disgusting unprofessional place! Susan is the manager. She hung the phone on me after I asked for the disgusting operator who was a woman’s name for HAVING A DISGUSTING ATTITUDE and tone. Susan needs to be FIRED. I AM IN THE PROCESS OF REPORTING THE BOTH OF THEM!

2022-03-18I have had many cats over the years and Dr.Mendelssohn and staff are by far the absolute best. They take their time, are compassionate and honest. Their prices are very reasonable. There are many vets in my town, but I travel 35 minutes each way to go to the Dobbs Ferry Animal Hospital.

2021-09-03Our Westie began trembling and walking with trepidation yesterday. We called for a last minute appointment and they were booked. Not long after, the office called us back with a cancellation for today and we were so grateful! The Doctor was great- gave him a thorough exam, identified the probable issue and put us at ease that he should be better soon. Lovely office, super nice staff. Highly recommend.

Dr. Mendelsohn goes the extra mile in caring for my loved ones, and in lending her support to me when I lost my cat Smudgie to cancer.
