Waited over 3 hours to get our car on a weekday late afternoon. Counter help was hostile to the customers. Booked through Expedia with prepaid insurance. After returning home and finding we were charged over $200 more for additional insurance and road side assistance that we did not accept we are now fighting with customer service to remove the charges. Worst experience ever with a rental car place. Will never ever rent from them again. We feel like they scammed us. Go anywhere else to get a rental.
I rented a car here in Buffalo on September 15, 2021. I returned it on September 19, 2021. The total rental costs was supposed to be $348.28. I started getting calls to return the car later Im the week. I kept telling them I returned the car on the 19th. Then I started seeing several charges on my car that added up to over $500. Then I get a charge for $960 for the rental. I called to dispute the charge and they said they would reimburse me the amount overcharged. They still wont give me a receipt. I kept asking for a receipt from day 1. They sure do want your money as soon as you rent the car but if you are owed a refund they take their sweet time. The return agent lady was incompetent at the airport. She was busy but she should have taken the time to give me a receipt even when I demanded it. She told me they would email it to me. That usually happens but I still like one at the time of return. Guess I should never trust to let that happen again. Awful customer service all the way around. I will rent with some other company from now on. I do travel a lot. I also witnessed people not get the type of vehicle they were promised. I saw lots of bad customer service at this airport rental. I also saw them give a car full of cigarette smell Im the car. The young lady asked for a different car and they refused then told her they would clean the car before they would give it to her. She didnt have time to wait an hour. Poor customer service. All of this while I was there renting a car. It wasnt busy.
It didnt cost much, but the ending was maddening. I forgot my cellphone in the car, went in the terminal, and returned 15 minutes later. The fellow who checked me in had no idea what had happened to the car I just checked in, and seemed a little confused as to what I was asking for. To be clear, it was an early Sunday morning, and there was very little traffic. Then, trying to navigate the Dollar website to try and reach a lost-and-found return option also left me to a dead end. I submitted a form and heard nothing back, and the Buffalo location wasnt even listed as one of their sites. Customer service was pretty much non-existent. I guess you get what you pay for. Wont use Dollar again.
Rented a Van from them last week prepaid through Priceline. When I arrived it was quick and easy to get the van I declined prepaying for gas as I knew I really wouldnt be driving much and didnt need the full tank. upon returning I filled the tank 2 mins from the airport however here days later Im surprised by a $127 charge for refueling the van. The same receipt shows I drove a total of 82 miles... Im not sure how the math even if I hadnt refilled the tank before dropping it off(Which I did)would equate to $127 for a little more than 3 gallons of gas. Stay away from this company as it seems they will do some shady stuff to get more money out of you. Luckily my credit card company disputes was easy and I have the charge for gas before I dropped it off on the same card
The price was right, but that is all. Regardless of which company I selected this one way rental was going to be pricey. I selected Dollar due to price. The customer service at Midway was not great. They would only rent me a Sentra for our trip and the first one had 40k plus miles on it and it was beat up. The second one was not as bad, but dirty and as it turned out we found out the tires in the front were not only bald, but had belts showing! What the heck, dollar! How could this car be allowed to be rented? Your lucky nobody wrecked with this car and got hurt or died! Shameful!
Rented a car on Labor Day weekend. Were fortunate to be checked in within 10 minutes of walking up to the counter but then waited two more hours for a car. The crew was unable to restock their inventory and we (60+ people) waited one-by-one to have our name called. Not how we wanted to spend our holiday weekend. On the return, there wasnt any space to return the car as all the lanes were to capacity. We were not greeted upon our arrival and had to drop keys in a box. Dont buy into the low prices. We will look elsewhere.
They didnt accept cash or debit for my rental, and they only had a small paper sign at the desk notifying customers that their policy changed that week. I called my dad because I didnt have a credit card, and they wouldnt take his card over the phone either. My dad drove over an hour to hand deliver his credit card. I love my dad but holy s*** these guys need to communicate their payment options better and work with you on payment. Finding out at the pickup counter that only credit card is accepted is awful.
They dont follow their corporations rules regarding debit card rentals, even though they have previously rented with a less than 24 hour booking as long as proof of an outbound flight and 2 forms of id were provided. The gentleman today not only didnt bother to tuck in his shirt or put a name tag on, he refused to give me his name and because I refused to sit down! And walt! (for the manager who finally decided to come to the counter when our speaker phone conversation did not end with me quietly agreeing to them violating their own policy) He (agent no name) called local law enforcement, I didnt swear, call him names, threaten him with words or actions, I simply refused to sit as commanded, I had even stepped to the side so as to not impedethe next customer from being helped.The manager when he FINALLY came over, said nothing, handed me his card and walked away, allowed his employee and law enforcement to pursue me when they showed up. Even David who I have previously done business with refused to provide me the other gentlemans name and said nothing as the nameless agent spoke about me to the woman he decided to help behind me.After an hour and a half on the phone with their customer service line, who agreed that I had in fact been correct about the corporates policy regarding debit card rentals and agreed that this location should be renting to me based on their policy, was unable to get me into a rental with them.I now have my rewards points back in my account and then some, but I seriously doubt I will be using them based on my last 2 experiences with Dollar. Once again I had to rely on their competitor to get me where I needed to be (2.5 hours behind schedule) thanks to calling law enforcement, but hey Constantino and Sharicka on the 800# at least listened and tried to rectify this situation. Below is the manager who came over, said and did nothing, and with whom Constantino was unable to either get on the line or convince to follow corporate policy and rent to me.
We arrived for our car rental at 12. Wed called ahead and were told our car was ready. Upon arrival, that was determined to be a lie. Not only was it not ready, we were told it would be ready soon, and proceeded to wait 2 and half hours. For a car were promised was ready. Upon finally getting the key, the car wasnt even in the right lot and we spent another 7 minute trying to find the car in the car park. Awful experience and the staff were no help, while actively lying to us
SCAM/FRAUD ALERT: Rent from Dollar at your own peril. I made a reservation to rent a car from the Greenwich Village branch in NYC at the weekly rate of $399, with a total cost of $483, returning the car at the Buffalo airport. I declined additional coverage at the time of rental, returned the car on time and in perfect condition with a full tank of gas and later got a bill for $1,483 with a weekly rate of $1,024! Then good luck trying to get a LIVE HUMAN BEING on the phone to dispute the charge.I waited on hold, while at work, for nearly an hour and they said the Buffalo airport didnt check in my car until two days after I returned it. What a scam! So they turned my $483 car into a $1,483 rental. This is legal? This company is either dysfunctional or criminal or perhaps both. Either way, I would NOT rent from them.
Sitting here for an hour. Watching all the people who rented elsewhere get their keys and leave... I have never had an experience like this... They dont have cars. Its like that Seinfeld episode.... Where are the cars??? I WILL NEVER RENT FROM THEM AGAIN! there are so many options, and all the lines are clear but this one. DO NOT RENT HERE!!!! YOU WILL REGRET IT!!!!2 hours!
I was looking to rent a car through this company to which I was given upwards of 4 different prices for the same car with all the same options and add ons insurance young renters fee etc... origional price I was given was $595 including young renters fee tax insurance and the car cost within 4 different people in 2 different phone calls I got told that price then $1000 for just me then $1200 for just me then $879 for just me then I was told for an exact rate Id need to speak with someone at the location Id be renting from so I asked if they could put me in contact with them to which they blatantly told me no.... well why tell me I need to call the local office itself if youre not going to allow me to? And whats with multiple different prices for one vehicle for the same dates?? Definitely cant trust this company i feel theyll definitely find a way to overcharge you !! I will never attempt to rent from them again.
I reserved a car 17 days before my arrival date. When I arrived in Buffalo to pick up my reserved car, they had no cars, NONE!!! I was able to rent a vehicle from another agency at $25 per day more than the rate I was quoted from Dollar. My reservation was for 5 days. When I contacted Dollar customer no service, the customer service representative offered me a $50 discount for my inconvenience. I explained again that $25×5=$125, to which he told me that $50 was all they would give. Is this really how you treat customers who have been inconvenienced and had to pay extra??? Maybe this is why they have a 1 star customer satisfaction rating.
My buddy rented a car for me because I didn’t have a credit card life saver!!! Dollar car rental didn’t have their $500 deposit posted on their site !!! Or I would’ve said no. Six people in front of me had the same problem we all left and I called right away mind you this was at nine. I was on hold for 35 mins before I got some one. They cancel and returned the money to Expedia then I had to call Expedia they said they’d reach out to dollar and resolve the issue. Just got an email stating they were keeping the money I’m furious. I edge everyone to not use dollar or Expedia anymore unless you like being ripped off because you got through 5 minutes after the time cutoff.
You guys sit there and charge people for things that are not their fault. I was charged with 4 bad tires. Which is false. Your site DID NOT mention ANYTHING about a credit check. Way to make money on being a a poor rental company trying to make money. I will NEVER rent from this company. And will NEVER recommend this comapny.
On Thursday 12/3/20 my wife and I rented a car from Dollar at BUF. I used to work as a counter sales representative for Avis/Budget so I understand how the business works but we had a very unpleasant experience with Mohammed who helped my wife. First of all he made her wait over 40 minutes for a car. I understand sometimes the shortage of cars and they need to be cleaned and etc but 40 minutes was a bit too long. Then on top of that, after leaving with the keys, we discovered that Mohammed added loss damage waiver to the rental without our permission for $12/day. My wife clearly declined the options and coverage and yet he still added it on. Now being in sales for another car rental company myself, this is purely unacceptable. Upon returning the vehicle, I had my wife go up and speak to someone at the counter. They issued us a refund for $4. No manager was available or else we would’ve discussed this with them. I am hoping someone sees this from the management team because this is unacceptable. How can I do business with Dollar again in the future when we now have a trust issue? I know rental sales agents often need to push coverage to sell them but I’ve never ever seen anyone add it on even after a customer politely declined.
Called to tell them the car I rented reeked of cigarettes. They suggested I go back EVERY DAY to the airport in Buffalo to see if any cars were available. Other than that there was nothing they could do. Sucks to be you! How is that for customer service. Never again with Dollar.
Poor customer service and long wait times at Buffalo Niagara International airport. I waited over 2 hours for car and rep didnt even call me up after all other customers left that had arrived after me. The manager did give me a discount but that does not make up for over two hours lots when trying to start vacation. Plus, another car charged to my credit card and when trying to reach customer service over phone, waited 45 mins to speak to anyone. I do not recommend dollar/hertz if you are in a hurry or care about your time when on vacation. Suggest when returning car, make sure you get second receipt.
At the Buffalo airport theyre super understaffed, even though the staff are super nice, they are scrambling to get cars. So even if you have a reservation youre going to wait like 2 hours standing in line. Bring snacks. Also people in the lobby were unmasked and employees were unmasked even though they had some barriers.
Been waiting for over an hour to pick up a car that was reserved because they dont have any cleaned and when asked how much longer it would be told that one if the other women have the keys and would decide who gets the cars and no care that I have to be at work in an hour
Really bad car rental company! I had my reservation at 5:30PM and they are making me wait for nearly 2 hours now (dont know how much longer to go). They are smart enough to offer attractive prepaid options and do not keep their promise. What makes it worse is their unbelievably dead customer care number. I would never recommend dollar to any of my friends.
They were pretty quick about having a car ready for me. The lines were okay and they didnt try to force me into taking anything extra after I said no thanks.The only thing I needed was a ride to get to Dollar to collect my rented vehicle and they said no they dont do that and I have to find a way there myself. There are other car rental agencies that do provide pick-ups. The least they can do for a lonely women with a child is a simple, but needed, pick-up for the hundreds of dollars I spent.
Mohammed at customer service at the Buffalo Niagara International Airport was extremely rude and arrogant. I stood waiting for about five minutes , while he spoke on his personal cell phone talking on the speakerphone during a personal conversation. He told his party to hang on and asked if I had a rental. I told him I had one for a few days later but wanted to speak to someone about adding on additional days due to my father in law being in hospice. I explained how when I was on the phone with people, place to place told me to call the other, so I came directly to dollar to try to speak to an actual person that may be able to assist me. He made comments that I was crazy, did I not know how to understand English, that even though I already paid for a car rental for Friday he would make sure he didnt have a car for me. No one deserves this type of customer service. I would never rent from dollar/hertz ever again. If I could rate zero i would.
One of the worst customer service experiences I have ever had. I had a scheduled rental for a Monday morning (as well as at least 5 others in line with me). We waited over an hour and a half after checking in with no updates given, while watching other customers receive their rental vehicles. At no time did any of the three personnel behind the Hertz/Dollar counter ever engage any of us or explain the delay. Do not recommend this rental car company or location to anyone.
They are totally inept and unprepared. After waiting almost an hour in a combined line with Hertz, the under-staffed counter told us they had no cars because they were also under-staffed with the workers that clean the cars. The last thing anyone wants to do after a long flight is waiting hours and hours for a rental car. Do yourself a favor, use a reliable car rental company if your time means anything to you.
Reserved a rental, paid the deposit online and checked in before arriving to pick up rental and they claimed they had no rental cars to provide to me. I had to call corporate in order to get my deposit refunded. Very poor customer service without the willingness to offer any resolutions to better the situation, in the end leaving a single mother and her daughter 2400 miles from home without any transportation.
Do not rent from this company, i was trying to rent a car from them at the MKE Milwaukee airport location and there was so much wrong on multiple levels, first the credit card machine was faulty and it declined my card despite the fact i called my bank and confirmed that the card is working. The lady at the counter did not let me swipe my card, or enter the information manually as it is against their policy. I tired using different card, and same things happened. And those were the only two cards i had on me.Second thing the lady at the counter was especially rude and unhelpful.Third i tried to cancel my reservation to rent from other company they stated that they will charge me a cancellation fee.
1st- they accidentally cancelled a prepaid order I made thru Expedia and wouldnt honor the same price when I called a week prior to the trip and explained what they had done to me. They said their system was down while we were on the call so they would have to email a confirmation later in the day of the rebooked vehicle. Later that afternoon they sent me an email stating they couldnt rebook my reservation because the car wasnt available at the BUF location anymore.However... I went back onto the website and rebooked the reservation for the same car at a higher price. I emailed customer service back and no one ever responded to me.I did use a debit card for my rental. 3 days after returning it corporate doesnt show that its been returned, so of course my card cant be charged and my hold removed from my debit card.Customer service is stymied by its inability to reach the local Buffalo Niagara International Airport itself, let alone provide me with that information so I can follow up myself. This entire experience has been horrible.
Got a great deal through Expedia, picked up the car with no problem, attendant was very friendly and the whole process took about 10 minutes. Returning the vehicle was very quick as well just drop the car off and thats it. Will definitely be renting with Dollar again.
Theyre fraud. They will eventually rip you off and charge hidden fees. I rented car for $89 and they charged me $356 on my credit card. I tried to reach out to the company and called more than 10 times and received no help from them. I wish I could give them less than one star. 😡
Arrived to get car and was told they didnt have any cars available. Was told should have one in about 15 minutes. After 30 minutes I walked down to where the cars were parked to see 2 full rows of cars. After 45 minutes the desk people started calling customers up to the desk for their cars. No explanation was given as to why we were all sitting there for 45 minites. 45 minutes of my vacation was wasted waiting on a vehicle that was available. I have used Dollar many times. This is the first time I had to waste 45 minutes of my day waiting for a car while all the other renters at other rental companies received their cars and were on their way!
Make sure you take a photo of your gas gauge when you return your vehicle. This company will scam you and charge you for fuel. I just received my credit card statement and they charged me and I had the proof. Then these scumbags wanted to see it after they knew it was returned full.
Very bad experience with Dollar rent a car at Buffalo Airport.The worst customer service experiences I ever had with a rental car… and I did rent at least 40 cars in my life so far all over the world traveling around.We had a reservation for a car, but had to wait for over 90min to get our car. This is not acceptable. Next experience: After passing the toll bridge South Grand Island Bridge on our drive to the Niagara Falls, we went back to the counter at the airport the same day to get information on how to pay or if it is include. The answer was that we will only be charged 5$ processing fee over the bridge fee (witch is 1$ per way) regardless of how many times we would drive trough. Now coming home after the vacation I find 22,8$ on my credit card for DOLLAR TOLL CHARGE-ATS passing twice over the bridge (2$ toll)
My appt was for 12pm. My car isn’t ready by 1:30. Failure to provide the service that was promised. Inept managment or corporate failure due to lack of care. Employees problem not to blame. Some type of corporate manager who designed system where the company cannot deliver on promises made.
We waited in line for an hour and a half after we had purchased an express pass. They are short staffed and don’t have enough cleaners to get cars out fast enough. I understand availability being limited and being understaffed but as express pass owners we were not supposed to have to wait. Slightly disappointed in the service today. Don’t think I will be renting from here again.
Worse experience at a rental car. NO CARS to fill reservations of 50 customers. Was told this is usual for their location. I would suggest Enterprises at this location. They had cars for their customers. NOT Avis because they were trying to price gouge us stranded customers of Dollar aka Hertz.
I am currently in line. Have a car reservation and have been standing here for over 40 min. And only 2 people have been taken care of so far. My reservation was for 1. There are still 15 people ahead of me. Its going to be another 1rh or two. This is absolutely ridiculous. Its 2019 this should be streamlined by now. I will NEVER rent here again (its hurtz also )
DO NOT and i repeat DO NOT rent anything from this company. First of all they overcharged by almost 150 dollars!! wayyyy to many hidden fees and poor customer service and they are making me paya 75dollar cleaning fee for a vehicle that was already dirty.save your money and go else where
Codey at the Buffalo Airport lower terminal was an excellent employee, providing great customer service. He was the one in the garage delivering the keys and the vehicle. He allowed me to switch/upgrade vehicles last minute because I had my eye on a sweet 4dr white jeep! We quickly breezed through the paper work and I was out lickedy split!
You charged my credit card 185.00 for a vehicle I never picked up. I have called several times and no one answers the phone. Your company needs to return my phone call now and refund my credit card along with interest. I will report your company in 24 hrs if no response.
Got to Buffalo. No cars !!!overbooked your lot. Then that wasnt enough punishment. Border to Canada resulted in detainment. You rented us a HOT car. When returned same story. Detained. Questioned. These people were VERY SERIOUS. They told us the person before us ran thru the border checkpoint.... thanks for a VERY memorable trip. Oh ,Yes! But all companies do the same thing. Have a nice day

Needed a rental for my nephew bday weekend the rental started turning off on my on the highway 15 mins from leaving the airport which put my LIFE IN DANGER , they don’t answer the phone you have to wait a hour before you get through then I never got a exchanged car they never reach back out to me after they towed the rental .what a inconvenient and they don’t care about their customers concerns .I WOULD NEVER RENT FROM HERE AGAIN PLEASE CHOOSE A DIFFERENT CAR RENTAL COMPANY DOLLAR RENT CAR WILL FAIL YOU !!!!!!
Awful service, it was a 2 hour wait before they had a car for me. My reservation for the car was 9am and it was after 12pm that the car was ready. I called customer service and was told they werent responsible and to call Travelocity since I had booked the car with them. Will never use dollar again
Lots and lots of wait time, been standing here for 45 mins and they are still getting the car ready for us.The lady at the reception was so unwelcoming, continued asking whether we are out of line when we were clearly in the line. They should not be doing that. And they will not tell you any time frame.

2022-03-25The car smelled of smoke and I didnt have time to ask for a different car so I reported the smell to the garage attendant who wrote on the contract. I had to drive with the windows open due to the smell. When I turned in the car I got got an email charging me $400 to clean the car. I called customer service who said they had no record of my report of the smell but she would put in a request for a refund. I filled out a survey, told my experience and requested a phone call. Nothing. Rip off car rental who charges everyone $400 to clean a car they didnt damage. Never again. Dont use Dollar car rental.

2021-07-28I rented a suv from Dollar/ Hertz for my stay in the Niagara Falls and it was a great experience!! I reserved my rental online with Kayak and there were no surprises the price I was quoted for. The gentleman that help me was quick and helpful gave me a nice SUV to enjoy the Falls. Best place for a car rental!! Best customer service!!

2022-02-22So we rented a car 28 days ago but no car when we arrived. The man at the desk said 10 minutes hahaha. He didn’t know we understood Spanish when he discussed with his co-worker that there were no cars. We prepaid and he told us that he didn’t recommend that. Ha! What a horrible company. No wonder they and Hertz are getting such bad press. I will NEVER rent a car from them again. They left us stranded with no car. Further when I checked in he said “I hope you didn’t reserve for today”. We said nope almost a month ago…he said” Oh good” hahahaha. No cars at all. Thanks for screwing up Hertz and Dollar.

2022-06-13Run, run fast. Go elsewhere. We rented from Orlando Airport. This company nickel and dimes you. They charged me 52 dollars for tolls, I had my own ezpass for tolls, the original toll charge is 4 bucks, then they charge 48 dollar processing fee. Right now I’m in middle of disputing.My daughter rented a car for her family at same place & time, the brakes were beyond horrible and dangerous, they said they had no other car to give her, then they charged her an extra 200 for wearing out the brakes when she returned car. Never again with this company, true to the core thieves! Sticking with Alamo, never had problems with Alamo

2022-06-19Had a reservation made April 22nd. Arrived to a long line which was described by the agent as normal crowd. After waiting 30 min In line with only 2 agents to service both Herrtz and Dollar, we were placed on a waiting list. We waited over an hour for a car. People after us in line were given the next vehicle. Our reservation was for 11am it was around 130 when we received a car. There should have been an inventory available for those who had a reservation. Poor planning for those with reservations. The reservation attendant was very nice

2022-05-31This company is a bunch of deceptive thieves. Not only are you not presented with any documents to review on a screen, but you dont get to decline services. On top of this they lie about receiving vehicles to charge you more. Weird how my vehicle is listed as returned at 20:49 when my flight, which was delayed by 25 took off at 19:50. Do not use these criminals.

2022-01-30Worst service experience. Specially when the booking is to pick up from Buffalo Airport Dollar or Herts company as the representatives are same . Worst combination, ripoff, waist of your time. I gave the card from which I booked the car but the card was not good enough as it was a debit card AND NO WHERE DURING MY BOOK I WAS WARNED THAT NEED TO TAKE OR HAVE A CREDIT CARD WHEN I AM PICKING UP AN SUV. During my pickup representative with earbuds on told me I can only have sedan as I am didn’t bring my credit card I was like ok fair enough will you adjust the price accordingly to Sedan he had no clue what I was talking about. As I was getting late I told him ok go ahead give me the sedan for the SUV price now he went inside spoke with his supervisor and told me I have to come back next day for the car. The representative had ego issues or something.

2022-06-17We have been waiting for our car to “be ready” for almost two hours now. When asked we were told they didn’t have enough people to clean the cars. All other rental firms have no lines. Hertz/Dollar will be no more. Lessons learned - don’t go with the cheapest option.
