Stopped by for the first time after visit to the Ganesh temple Nextdoor. Limited in sitting dine offered the opportunity to eat right there. The idli vada sambar chutney combo was pretty tasty. food quality was great. Also ordered some snacks from the counter which are pretty good. Will return next time to try more. Keep up the good service.
Dont be fooled by the prices here , I guess that way people fall for this restaurant.Located right next to the temple , its keen to get more customers from the temple regardless of the temple canteen. We ordered cheese masala dosa and rava dosa ,both were really bad as the dosa wasnt cooked well and the cheese melt was really bland while the rava dosa was too crispy.I would honestly prefer the temple canteen and made a mistake going here.
Today i went to dosa hut, i have visited this place a few times before and food and service was okay but not great. I go there once in a while because dose is my favorite dish. However i had a very bad experience, never ever had such worst experience i customer service ever. Does this type of customer service exist in US???!! I ordered 3 different dosas for myself and 2 other friends, however they refused to give 3 sambar/chutney(curry that comes with it) and insisted i pay more for each chutney/sambhar which didnt make sense to me, total rip off!!!! Food just below average!!!would never go there again!!!!!The guy in the counter was veryy veryy rude!!!
Wonderful surprising experience. The cooking quality is eclectic. It was fine and authentic. It was satisfying and make you happy at the end.The cooking was done with fresh ingredients. Authentic and perfect.Quality is exceptional. Actually 5 star is not enough. The qualty of food is more than five star.Prices are down to earth. Just $15 per person including sweet mango lassi and sweetsThis is one of the best place to eat. You can take your kids, elderly persons and friends with you for breakfast or lunch or dinner. Variety of food is available and suitable for all age groups. All people will be happy. Very simple clean setting and close to Sri Ganesh temple in Queens , Flushing area.Must visit with friends and family.Every dollar you spend is a worth.
Went there to have a meal after ages and was very disappointed. My order was half cooked and its not what it used to be. I wish them good luck and hope they improve on their quality and service. Given the pandemic, its very understandable if a place is not able to provide service but if the food is not cooked properly, how do you justify that ?
Very Bad experience. Today we went there and ordered for two dosa, samoosa and mango lassi. The guy in the counter is Mr Rudy. Customer service a Big Zero. Earlier it was better. They need extra dollars for curry(sambhar & chutney) which everywhere else is free. Total rip off. very Bad experience!
I had to change the rating for this place due to my recent experience. Go to this place if you have no dignity and want ti be humiliated. The staff is very very rude and has no respect for the customers. The food no doubt is good but you have to trade off between good food and humiliation. I think there are places that serve good food and also respect their customers. Stay away from this place.
Cheese and onion chili rava masala was heavenly. A hint of ghee with the crispy and light dosa really compliment the potato and onion and cheese very well. Their mild chutney is the cherry on top. Anyone looking for vegetarian/vegan dishes should definitely check out this place. I believe it is the same shop that runs the food court in the ghanesh canteen temple just around the corner.
Food fresh and delicious, and price very economical. Parking can be a little tricky. The decor is very basic, but clean...tables are cafeteria booth like..about 7-8 booths. All throw away plates/utensils...service good...you order and they call you to pick it up at counter...open view to kitchen...but you pay first before you sit down. One negative is decor/ambiance..... I wish they would warm up the decor a bit...make it more cozy.
There’s Hillside Dosa Hutt in my neighborhood, but I specifically go out of my way to drive to this location in Flushing because the food is so much tastier. It’s completely worth the longer drive. Always delicious and the customer service is wonderful. They always recognize me as soon as I start placing my order over the phone :) Favorite dosa spot in New York!
Food Quality is consistently above average. Menu offers simple South-Indian items, well prepared, well seasoned, fresh, and without fuss or extravegance, although some dishes offer a western twist. Less greasy than youd expect for dosas at this price, so, if you are ordering take-away, expect your Dosa to sog a bit by the time you eat it.Service is very quick - expect to wait no more than 10 mins for your order. Seating can be a challenge during peak hours, so expect to wait 20 - 30 minutes at lunch on weekends. Customers tend to be devotees leaving the Ghanesh Temple next door mixed with a few daring first-timers. Mood is generally neutral if not a little sedate. Accommodates families and groups easier than singles or pairs. If South-Indian food is new to you, this is a great place to start as the spice levels are pretty tame on most items. That said, you will not find yourself wanting of additional flavour. If South-Indian food is not new to you, you will feel the western tameness on the flavour but not to a detrimental level (quickly-served Madras hotel levels). An exception to this is the mini Thali which will achieve tears for most western eaters and a familiar level of heat for urban Tamilians. Dosas are a little on the thicker side. Food is always hot (temperature).I suggest being prepared to eat with your hands if you intend on really enjoying your food.Restaurant is clean and simple. Atmosphere is very casual, diner-style (or stall-style) in good condition with few decorations. Booth-style seating can be limiting during busy weekends, and noise can rise to a hum between 11am and 2pm. You can maintain a conversation but you will also hear everyone elses conversation.Staff is friendly and accommodating with patience for first-timers and humility that will make you blush. The restaurant is run with typical Tamilian hospitality and a picture of Sri Sathya Sai Baba sits behind the register reminding you of a priority for service over self here.It is almost impossible to leave unsatisfied. Parking can be a chore, be prepared to walk a couple blocks. Family of 4 can be satisfied right around the $40 mark, coffee included.I reccomend the Dosa Chatt for the faint-of-heart, and any mini Thali for those seeking enlightenment.1 star removed for missing menu items that occur a little too frequently.
Good for south Indian food lovers. The food they serve is fresh and tasty, most importantly at reasonable price. place is not cozy and fancy but yes, Food is really good. Quick service. Staff is friendly and they speak Hindi also, Feels like you are in India! :-) All they need to make better is the restroom.
Dosa is always on point. Been going here since I can remember. Cam never go wrong eating here! Great atmosphere. Nice employees. I love that they extended the place so you can always get a seat and not have to worry about having to take the order out. Their new ice cream idea is pretty good too. Enjoyed the ice cream very much.
Good iddly and plain dosas. I dont eat their coconut chutney as its too spicy. I have started to eat their sambar though even if its spicy. Been going here for 1 to 2 decades. In north america, its still a good place to get a decent iddly and (for me plain) dosa at a very reasonable price. They have decent chai too.
Always excellent dosa and sambar. Small place but clean. Prices are competitive. Spinach and cheese dosa is so cheesy and yummy!!!! Masala tea is always just perfectly made...rasmali sweets is so soft, heavenly pillows of joy....I tried majority of the different stuffed dosas and havent been disappointed. The low carb dosa is okay....but I probably wouldnt get it again....
This place has changed a lot over past a year. To note, taste and quality has gone down, while prices of all the items has gone up a lot. We remembered this place from last visit, but everything this time was disappointing being it dosa, idly vada or poori, you name the item and they have made sure they have messed quality and taste.this was my last review: Place was good for great south Indian cuisine. Food items were really delicious and were made in authentic way. But, additional servings of side is charged separately. Restroom was not clean. Ambiance could be better.
Our go-to spot for healthy, delicious takeout. And you dont even have to be a vegetarian to enjoy their strictly-veggie food!No frills, authentic south Indian food, short wait time, next to Queens huge, gorgeous Hindu temple. Everyone is friendly and happy to help you out with questions about menu items you might not remember.
Food is good. Portions are not that big for a big eater like me. A dinner combo should fill me up but didnt so I got a slice of meat lovers pizza ($4) a block away.I think it should be a law to give a little more for dinner combos. Its better for the customer to get more than enough so cannot finish it and throw it away, then to have a customer to get less and feel hungry afterwards. If I feel hungry, it was an appetizer and should not be called a dinner combo.
Reasonable priced tasty south India food including dosa, idly, uttapam and rice. They also have thali meal, desserts, samosa and other chat options as well. I didnt try mango lassi but quite a few people were having it. Located near south Indian temple and BAPS Swaminarayan temple.
4 stars for food. 1 start for customer service.Pros: Authentic dosa in the city with great variety of options ranging from veg biryani to idly vada and combo.Cons: vent out time here! The Only complaint is that customer service isnt great and below par. The girl taking the order was on another call all the time and was rolling her eyes on simple questions about price check. They dont have labels on sweet section and when you ask the employee about the price she gives you a ridiculous look like it was my problem and she vaguely says it should be on the top. Seriously big No!
We REALLY like this place. Good Cantonese style food and great service (for a Chinese restaurant)! If you cant read the fixed course menus because you cant read Chinese, youre not missing out on authenticity.Everything we had was good. Fried flounder with fins so crisp you could eat them. Garlic sautéed snow pea shoots were mostly leaves not stems. Roasted chicken with customary shrimp chips was tasty. Seafood with pan fried noodles was laden with the fruit of the sea. The beef we ordered was a little TOO tender (sadly I dont know what that dish was).We could continue on but truly, this place was just solid.
Very disappointed With the owner’s behavior today. He has a store near the temple and yet he was so rude to my mom.We bought some coconut barfi and didn’t think it tasted fresh. When we took it back to the owner saying we would like to exchange it because it’s not fresh. He had the audacity to tell my mom “ don’t lie to me”.. how can anyone be so rude to an elderly person? She was so shocked and hurt as to why should she lie? Truly truly disappointed with such behavior metted out to an elderly lady
One of the worst experience. Visited on 08/31/19 around 6.30 pm. They served Sambar in Cofee cups. I saw proper Sambar bowls in their kitchen & asked for those. The guy who claimed to be a manager first said that I dont know how to eat - Sambar is always served in glass and not in bowl. I politely told him that I am 60 years old & dont need eating lessons from him - asked him again if he can give me the bowl - his response was these bowls are expensive - this prompted me to ask him that is this how he talks to his customers? And his response was that he is in this industry for 21 years. This is the problem with many Indian Restaurant - they are rude, poor customer service. Fault lies with us, we encourage them by not saying anything and make them feel as if they are monopoly. Yesterday there were 15 other customers and though many privately agreed with me, no one stood up with me. Shame on us. I asked to speak to the owner but obviously he wasnt available. I hope that he has some decency to respond to this.
Used to be good and affordable 15 years ago what was $2.99 is now $5.99 you can get the same dosa idli which tastes 100 times better with udipi brand sold at Patels and other Indian grocery stores for $1.99 for 2 dosas. It was good when there were no other options but now meh, its another shabby hole in the wall place where the owner never bothered tospend any money to make it look decent. Its next to the Brahmin Ganesh Temple for Madrasi/South Indians think Satta Nudla and Sundar Pichai level people all the other dalit, low caste people go to other places as they feel unwelcome due to looks given to them here.
Best and most authentic south Indian food ever! (Bangalore style of south Indian food). I have eaten in Los angeles, San Jose etc. I have never tasted food that really made me feel like I was eating in Bangalore again. In LA and San Jose, prices for dosas are around $7-10. But here for $5 you get such amazing dosas. I became a big fan. Love it. It is also right next to an Indian grocery store and Ganpati temple in case you would want to visit.
Very painful to describe that they even dare to give the foods that are not fit to eat in parcel. We have orderd one Vegetable Biriyani to eat in Home. When we opened the food at home, it was full of bed smell. Not even fit keep in front of the dining table. Be aware.
1 star less because the sambar wasnt good. Too bland and tasteless.Other than that, the masala dosas were perfectly crispy without being overdone or burnt and the vadas were just amazing with the coconut/green chili pepper chutney. Perfect amount of heat. The staff were very friendly, spoke to me in our regional Indian language which was really heartwarming. I took my American friend there, he loved it, so cant ask for a better compliment to our authentic south Indian cuisine lol!!Definitely worth going there again!!
This is one of the worst restaurants I have ever been to in my life. My family and I came for dosa, and we took a little long to decide what we wanted since we didnt know much about dosas. The guys at the front desk yelled at me and my family, told me that I was taking too long (There was a white couple behind me only) and told me he canceled my order and to move to the side. He then took his sweet time with the white couple explaining them everything one by one. When I got upset and told him this is not how you treat customers he yelled at me and told me that he will not take our orders anymore and he needs to leave. My brother in law had to step in because the man had no manners of how to treat a women. I even saw an employee stick his hand in his nose, without washing a nd started cooking. This place is full of filthy low class people who do not know how to speak to a women. Its disgusting. THIS IS NOT HOW YOU RUN A RESTAURANT! If I could I would give this 0 stars.
They have nariyal paani (coconut water) and sugarcane juice even though its not on the menu, we make sure to stop here for a refreshing drink. They have recently started the rolled ice cream concept with new indian flavors of almond pistachio. Good stand by option if the hindu temple canteen next door is not open for some reason.
Dosa hutt at flushing is very good with smiling person who welcome all and he speaks almost 3 - 4 languages.good vegetarian restaruant near to temple. The person (owner) who is helpfull customer, as he arrange the taxi for us.They served food in simple foam plate but its is delicious.sambar is good and we have variety too choose and all the food are served hot. waiting time is less.recommened this hotel for all and we visit again sure.
This place is very bad they don’t know about customer service I was there with my friend and we waited long period of time for food employees use same bathroom customer and don’t wash there hands, there is no washbasin my friend wash hand by mistake on they make shouting and start speaking loudly front of other people I don’t recommend not clean place. Very bad place .

2022-06-18Always a great place for fresh dosas , crispy vadas , soft idlies and an assortment of South Indian dishes. We end up ordering a bunch of items. At a very reasonable price. Wholeheartedly recommend.

2022-03-13I have been going to this place for over 10 years. The same people still work there. They are all very kind. This is the only Dosa Place in Flushing. It is really amazing to have one in this neighborhood, fortunately due to the temple next door. The dosa here is better than the dosas within the temple. Also, their samosa chaat is one of the best Ive ever had. Love this place!

2022-07-10This is my go to place for South Indian food. The idli just melts in your mouth and is always fresh. The dosas are exactly how I like it. The people are so polite and wonderful! Never rude.My only complaint is they don’t offer delivery and it’s difficult to make the commute as much as I like to. Other then that I am a very happy customer.

2021-08-12A little hole in the wall place for tasty made to order dosas. We got a plain dosa (nothing inside, so just the rice and lentil tortilla $5) and a potato dosa $6. No, really they were both tasty! They told us that the potato dosa is the least spicy. Fyi. The picture is one dosa cut into to pieces. Fyi again. Mmm.

2022-04-02Im not an expert on South Indian food and I dont pretend to know what makes a good dosa, but I got the Masala dosa from here and I aint gonna stop! This place popped my dosa eating cherry, and it was flipping great. Also got samosas which were great as well. They only gave one styrofoam cup of sambar, but its more than enough, probably enough for 3 orders. They did make me wait a good while for my simple order and I was the only one in queue, but great food like this is worth waiting for.

2022-02-28Never missed a single time to stop by every time I visit the temple. As a result of those good experiences, we decided to order food for 60 people for my dads 31st day remembrance and oh boy, they did a stellar job. Everyone highly spoke about the quality of the food. Also they made sure that food was available on time for pickup. Highly recommended.

2021-06-17There were variety of choices of breakfast. The taste was little short to perfection. If you want a good cup of tea, prefer two spoons of sugar!
