Things we triedGobi ManchurianMini Idli (in Sambar Bowl)Medu Vada (in Sambar Bowl)Review: tried this place on a recent trip to long island. The Gobi Manchurian was quite crisp n tasty. The Idli and Vada were quite good but the highlight was the Sambar which was quite amazing!
Authentic eatery that is often overlooked. Seating area was clean and inviting. Menu options are mostly the usual, with a few interesting twists. Combo (thali) options offered me a great variety across all the main food classes. Spacious, good for a quick dinner with the family.
Id like to have a few more food options and have food labeled, so I can know what I eat (I am new to this cuisine and need to learn what I like and dislike). Other than that, the place is clean, staff is nice and food is good. The ice cream was delicious, best ice cream I had in a long time.
Very good experience . I reached there on there closing time they said it closed but once I said today is my wife’s birthday they allow us to come inside. They all wait till we finish our dinner . Dosa was excellent . At the last they give Gulab Jamun from there side .This was my best experience I always want to remember.
Visited the restaurant for Sunday Brunch vegetarian. Delicious all you can eat dosa made to order with buffet style chutney and appetizers along with Masala tea and dessert for under $10. No sneaky service charge automatically added to bill like chennai Dosa in Hicksville.I would go here again when in a mood for some Indian vegetarian.
Excellent South Indian food, including some things not often seen in NY. Two of us split an order of idli, a samosa chaat, a masala dosa and an uttappam. We really enjoyed everything. Service was quick and friendly, and we were offered seconds on the sambar and coconut chutney.
So I love going to this place because the food is decent. My only thing is service needs to be better. It used to be good but has gone down lately. Food is decent yet portions of certain items are too small. They do give you extra chutney at no cost if you ask. I mean if I am going back there even after the service has gone down must say something about their food. Lol... dont expect to see high end.. its a decent desi street average looking place.
Great place for pure South Indian vegetarian food..cleanness, honesty, hospitality, management, food service..all are five start rating..I went there for lunch few times and all the time had a great food..Vada, Sambar, Mysore Masala Dosa, Uttapam, Rava Masala..Masala tea, Madras Cofee..all were excellent…
My girlfriend and I really enjoyed our experience at Dosa World. Our waiter was super friendly, informative, and very helpful. He explained where each dish came from, how it would taste and whether it was traditional Indian or tailored to ‘Americans.’ We had a dosa, 3 appetizers and a classic crispy bread type of thing. The prices were extremely reasonable and the ambiance was cozy and tradition. We’d definitely come here again!
Ordered from seamless. They use their own driver and that took 1.5 hours to arrive from 4 miles away. Driver never let me know my food arrived so it was cold from sitting outside. Opened the bag and I was missing two items and had an extra soup that I didn’t order. The soups that possibly were mine were disgusting; tasted like water with some turmeric sprinkled in them. One dosas was wrapped in tin foil and not cut and had barely any filling in it. The other dosa was smushed so everything that was supposed to be inside was everywhere else. Nothing was labeled. Overall this place is beyond incompetent and does not handle food well.
I placed an order for 30 samosas by phone almost two hour before. I went to store after two hours and they were not ready yet. They didn’t even care about someone time. They don’t even know how to deal with customer. I had my family waiting in the car but they didn’t care. It was very bad experience. This was my first and definitely last time at this place. Such a waste of time.
I went with my family today at 9:00 pm.They took 25 mins to take order.Owner’s son came to take order and his first sentence was kitchen will be closing soon before even taking order. Finally we got our food with no tomato chutney and lightly warm sambhar. No utensils on table.Server replied so rudely that chutney finished people ate extra and he was showing such an attitude like we are eating for free. This is our second very bad experience to this place.I wish have zero star in or negative to star option on review points.Very disappointing.
Batatawada is to die for. Bad am Halwa is great after lunch or dinner. I have been coming here for a while when couple of people use to come for food here and now they are packed. Rava Dosa and Upma is delicious. Owner Badshah is a good guy who will accommodate all your need. Good competition to other South Indian restaurants on Broadway. Give it a try.
Not good. Sorry. What didnt lack in flavor was swimming in grease such as in the serving of papadam, coconut rice and Thali dish. Service even worse, not once did they even come to check how everything was nor did they come refill the much needed water. I kept looking and hoping to find something positive to write.
Everything was fantastic. Great food. Great service. Everyone was polite and courteous.Definitely felt safe eating there today even during this pandemic.Everything was super clean with distance from other tables when other people arrived. My food was PERFECT!Thank you!
OMG incredible. The Dosa are spectacular. Lovely people and nice dining room. The menu is terrific. Extensive and authentic. The buffet is beautiful with an enormous chutney selection. I’m a pescatarian so it’s great to go somewhere where I can eat everything on the menu!
Horrible experience! Very poor service.I ordered poori aloo . The waiter bring poori but didn’t bring the sabzi when I asked for it after waiting for 15minutes he said it will take another 5 minutes and the pooris also get cold. How can one eat poori without aloo sabzi then he himself cancelled our order. Such a horrible experience I won’t come here again
I frequent this excellent place often since I like the good air that is exist in this place. The team is extraordianrillyremarkably helpful and qualified. The service is exceptionally fast. Most important, the food you eat is good. I have been there many times and I was always joyful. The price is decent. I highly recommend this restaurant to my friends and family.
When we think of tradional south indian food, this is one restaurant that comes to our mind for sure. The owners and everyone here is very professional and make you feel at home. The food is delicious. We always walk out with a satisfaction of having had good quality food everytime we come here. Thank you again. See you soon.
Went with the family and did the lunch buffet. Food was very good and they also had fresh made to order dosas for the buffet. Only issue I had was cold drinks are placed with the buffet so it made it seem like they were included with the $8.99 buffet price. Unfortunately they were not and additional charges were put on the bill for the sodas without us being informed. Other than that overall a good place for solid vegetarian food.
This was my go to place for dosa. I really liked there dosa and gobi Manchuria. But Last time we went IDK what they did, place was smelling so bad. I didn’t see the regular staff either. We sat down and told the waiter about bad smell but he did not pay mind. So we decided to leave without eating anything. I don’t think so I will go back.
I consider myself hard core carnivorous but this place changed my opinion about vegetarian food. I am not a big proponent of large selection. All I always ask for is make less but make it right and flavorful. This place checks off all these criteria. Fresh food. Did not taste any frozen vegetables. Dosas have right amount of filling. Tea just wakes you up. Staff is friendly. You will want to come back again and again. Fun place. People were having a good time. In Indian community of the elderly are coming back for second rounds that means food is good and I saw a smile on their face. MUST GO PLACE in my books !!!
Dosa World is a great little charm on Broadway in Hicksville. It is vegetarian / vegan and has some gluten free options. The food is delicious, fresh and spicy. It is very clean and the waiter was extremely helpful in picking something off the menu to eat.We went two weekends in a row. There is a small buffet on the weekend for 9.99. I had rice and black lentil cakes with lentil soup and coconut curry for dipping. For dessert sweet cheese with cardamon which grew on me after I was home. I wish I had taken one to go. My husband loved the lentil doughnuts. The best part about this food was the way my stomach felt after eating it. I have a gluten allergy and even though the food was spicy my stomach was very happy and had little if any indigestion.
Taste is good, options are more, but i would prefer Sarvana Bhavan over this because of the options in chutney. They give more to go chutney options. Food tastes equally good in both places, Dosa world is a bit cheaper compared to the other. I tried Pondicherry Dosa and it was very tasty. hard to find that kind of Dosa in US.
Food was subpar, save your money. The sambhar was lackluster; no flavor and tasted old. The dosas were half soggy by the time they got to us. Service was good and food preparation time was good. I would not go back, Ive had way better dosas at other restaurants (house of dosas never disappoints!). Bathroom was disgusting, I can only imagine what the kitchen looks like.
Wish i could rate this place 0 stars. We took a gamble coming here and gave it a chance because of how many good reviews we had seen. Unfortunately, it was a poor decision on our behalf. The portion sizes were extremely tiny and the quality in all of the dishes we ordered were severely lacking. The point at which i was concerned was when later that evening two of my family members got food poisoning. The rest of us have been feeling uneasy since. Honestly ruined my trip to NY and wouldn’t wish this experience upon anyone. Avoid this place at all costs.
There should be no stars for this order, but I cannot do that and submit this review. I ordered a meal from here on 4/19 and it stated that there were open online for pick up on google and website accepted my order. Upon arrival the place was closed although there was a sign that stated that there was pick up from 11-8. I called the number that was online and also posted at the restaurant and the voice mail was full. I have been charged for this order that was not made. I called the number that was given in association with the order and the individual hung up on me. Do not trust that this place is open or honors their customers at this time
The food was very good, but they dont have enough capacity to handle large crowds. We came in right before a large group, and they were backlogged and could not make dosa fast enough. They served the entire other table a few dosas at a time before finally serving me and my family. When we got the food, the dosas were really good but maybe because were were starving at that point.
The most delicious dosa I have had. We went for buffet and they had so much to chose from- dosa, vada, uddapam, sambhar, variety of chutneys, chapatti and many curries and subzis. The staff is so friendly and they bring warm food to your table as soon as it is prepared. I would give higher than 5 stars if I could. A must visit! Thank you for having us.
Ah ... Dosa World. My family has tried every vegetarian restaurant on the Hicksville area, and we return again and again to Dosa World. An incredible variety of vegetarian north and south Indian dishes awaits your enjoyment. The staff is courteous and knowledgeable, and particilarly helpful to us Americans who know little .. okay, nothing.. about Indian cuisine. Highly recommended ... and is kosher certified as well.
Is it possible to take some star from this restaurant? THESE GUYS ARE TOO BAD, I DOUBT they are skilled at all to run the restaurant. No courtesy at all!! All of them are frustrated and poker faced people who does not want to take the order and say wait 5 mnts. Say good bye to this restaurant.
I wish I can give negative rating, but this is the lowest that I can give. the first time when I went there in summers they didnt have the ac working and it was so hot.Second time I tried their food it was way too spicy.third time when we ordered the food and got it delivered to the office. it was so horrible and pathetic. the food was spicy. the gobhi machurian was full loaded with food red color and was really spicy.the dosa was so hard and cold that it was difficult to chew , I looked that it was already made hours prior and reheat it and send it.And as I ordered thali so it includes halwa, which was in such a small container it was like just 1 spoon and that wasnt good because as soon as I ate it, I felt like throwing up.and when I called up for the complaint, no one listened n the staff was so rude.this is the worst restaurant I have ever been. I wondered how it’s still open in US , where the laws are so strict and where the quality of food is main agenda.
I went as a spur of the moment decision to try Indian food on my way home from work. I ended up trying every item at the lunch buffet. Everything was delicious and extremely authentic with so much included! Not only was everything fantastic but for the price you absolutely cannot go wrong
Didnt have dosa, but the food I did have was very good. The restaurant smells great from the minute you walk in. Tasty gobi masala and cucumber salad, and there are a lot of menu items to choose from. Food was moderately priced with good portion sizes, and the service was good. No alcohol, but the blistering hot chai was delicious.
Unfortunately won’t be coming back this establishment. Subpar service, subpar food, and subpar hygiene leading to a family member getting food poisoning an hour after eating here. None of the dishes quite stood out as much as I wanted them to based on the reviews I read. My special dosa world dosa was literally just filled with mozzarella cheese and the frozen vegetable mix I get from my local grocery store (peas, corn, string bean pieces and carrot), and lacked any semblance of flavor.
This is the second time we’re gone; it’s a bit out of our way, but we know 107 in Hicksville has the best Indian food on Long Island. Our first visit was midweek and they had a fabulous lunch buffet. Last night we went for dinner since we were shopping in the area. I have been trying to manufacture excuses to be in the area, largely unsuccessfully, just to go to Dosa World again. The restaurant is clean, well decorated, with plenty of parking in the back. The waitstaff is friendly and quick to ask if you want more sambar or coconut chutney (both super amazing). I had the Dosa World Thali (there are four Thali choices!!) while my husband had korma. There are so many wonderful things to try on the menu—if you are not familiar with Southern Indian food, I would recommend going for the lunch buffet or trying one of the Thalies just to get a sample of the flavors. I will definitely diligently look for reasons that it would be at all continent to go back!!
I havent even gone yet, planned to go tomorrow to celebrate an event and the guy on the phone was very rude when I simply asked if reservations are required. He didnt want to answer until I gave an exact time I would be there. When I said sometime in the evening, he said he was very busy and hung up. Then refused to answer the phone, when I hoped to speak to someone else
I normally don’t write reviews, but feel the need to after what I experienced. I got food poisoning from eating here. It was so bad I was unable to keep any food in my system for 3 days and had horrible abdominal pain and even a fever. Several of my other family members experienced the same thing after eating here. I am recovering now, but E. coli or Salmonella contamination is not a laughing matter. Be cautious. It’s not worth the risk (the food wasn’t even good, the house special dosa had nothing but frozen veggies in it, app portion sizes tiny) You’re better off heading to house of dosa or better yet, the Hindu temple dosa canteen in flushing.
A google search for the best dosa listed this place at the top of the search results. When I went in for lunch, oddly enough there were few people dining in. I helped myself to the buffet which included rasam, sambhar, sweet and sour chutney assortments, curd rice, three curries, uttappam, idli, vada, veg biryani, roti, ice cream, tea, gajar halwa, and choice of dosa from a few selections. Most of the dishes were running low on food. Slowly, the place began filling up and the management refilled the food. With the exception of ice cream, vada and gajar halwa, I found everything else to be mediocre. The vada though needed to be literally drained of oil because I could not taste anything in there other than the oil. The idli was not as fluffy as should have been and the tea was watery. I was asked about my food at least five or six times by different employees. A diner remarked that food was better next door and that they had originally driven 30 minutes to eat there, but that place was full so they ended up here. Clearly, they were not enjoying their food either. As for me, I would not go back to this restaurant for anything I had.
Great Indian restaurant. We came here during lunch and had the lunch buffet. The selection isnt huge, but everything is good, especially the dosas. Its a vegetarian place, but meat eaters like myself will enjoy it too. The staff is very friendly, the place is clean, and the chai is fantastic.
I have been to Dosa world twice and they exceeded my expectations. My kids loved the chocolate dosa and topi dosa(cone dosa). We also tried gobi dosa, pondicherry masala, panner masala, badam halwa. The place is very simple and elegant....weekends can be crowded. I havent tried the buffet yet ....Will definitely go again!!!
The Real Indian (Both South and North) Taste Dosa and Idly...! And Especially Vadai....Wow.....Chance less Taste...! Now Dosa World is became like our Home and We eat there Everyday...! Staffs are so friendly like Family Members....! This is Not just the Place to Try Once, it is like a place to have food always...! Thanks Dosa World...!
One of the BESSST restaurants in Hicksville. When you enter the restaurant, the aura from dosa pulls me towards it. In my opinion, Their mango lassies are the best. Their prices are cheap and with several different types of dosas, you have lot of options. To put it simply, They have best Indian Dosas.
Very delicious south India food. , i love this place, now we are going regularly , same taste and good service .Again we visited this restaurant and ordered onion rava masala dosa with paneer.Wow.its mouthwatering taste.Went in again for buffet..and same awesome taste. Food was hot and fresh. Quick service.
Recently I went with my family to this place. Service was quite lousy. Service person was rude. I simply requested to roast the Dosa and I was refused to give the service. We got totally confused as to how such place treat us like this. We paid our bill and walked out.Sorry for their bad experience.
Manager is ridiculous my 3 years old son hardly have 1 bite so we request him to pack this he said they will throw it but will not pack even we paid for that meal . As other staff also know this fact dont know what kind of people they are ? When we told them they are doing wrong my elder one is in between of his meal he took the place even before he finish i never ever had such bad experience even others restaurants doesnt charge for such a small kids . Shame on them .
Good food, we ordered sada dosa, masala dosa, uttapam, mango lassi, combo, idli also filter coffee, everything were really tasty, staffs are good, very presentable very attentive, and price is very low compare to other dosas place in HicksvillePlace is very spacious so no need to wait like other dosa placesWe all will recommend to go there

2021-11-20Delicious, authentic food and excellent customer service! A perfect place to come break up the average rotation of cuisines. Great prices too! Indian food cooked with love and skill. We celebrated my dad’s birthday dinner here and the staff could not have been nicer. (He’s vegan and loved everything) Can’t wait to come again soon.

2021-10-12Very good food and attentive staff. We went as a group of 9 and there was plenty of space to accommodate everyone comfortably. The highlight for me was definitely the coconut chutney

2022-06-19Good food, poor customer service. It should not take over an hour for an order of masala tea. I mentioned to the lady who took our order (I assume it’s either the owner or manager) that I hadnt received my tea after we finished our appetizers and she stated they were making it and it will take a few minutes. More than an hour has passed and we finished our meal and no one came back to even check on plus . This was after seeing another table, served their tea who came in well after ours. The person who took our order never checked to see if we needed anything except to give us our order of food. We wanted to order desserts but after waiting another 10 minutes for them to even acknowledge us, we decided to leave without it.Our waters were not replenished but tables with European Americans were given extra care and attention. It’s unfortunate that this occurred and would rather go to other Dosa restaurants in the area that honors you as a customer first. If you want good customer service, bring a European American with you, otherwise- good luck!

2022-05-26Best authentic tasting Indian restaurant on Long Island. Doesnt taste anything like the Americanized Indian food of other restaurants. Mostly locals go there. Feels and tastes like youve been transported to one of the Indian subcontinent counties. Super friendly, super affordable, super delicious.

2022-06-26Really good Dosa!!! They have a variety of flavors to choose from, with different styleParathas and the customer service is good. Definitely would recommend this place for brunch. Side note it can get realllly spicy!!! Parking round the back which is good as the front parking can get filled up. They also have a sink on the side to wash your hands instead of going to the toilet!!!!

2022-07-04Service is poor and Food is ok.Bhel puri and samosa chat were great but the Jai Pur dosa had no flavor. Service was also lacking which is the main reason for the 2 stars. We asked several times for extra napkins and the waitress brings over just one napkin for a table of four with a toddler! We also had to ask the waiter specifically to please clear out the apps so there was room for the main course. The staff should really be more attentive to the customers.

2022-05-19The food is delicious and the prices are very reasonable. The service is not so great. The staff seems lost all the time but the food and reasonable prices more than make up for the service. Highly recommend their Masala Dosa, Samosa Chaat, and Pondicherry Dosa.Take-out experience has been great also. Food is ready when you arrive if call ahead.

2021-02-12We loved the foods. Their behavior and service is very cordial. We loved the chaat, and the chana Masala. We are not that much familiar with authentic South Indian food. But still we liked the different taste Special Dosa.

2021-06-03The best thali and dosas are so full of flavor you never ever miss the meat as they are 100% Indian vegetarian! (their masala chai omg!!)

2020-10-18I have this place a two star rating being very very generous. The inside decor was very depressing and sad. Food was cold and instead of Turing on air circulating system they left their front door open in the middle of 62 degreee weather. Price was def. not worth the food at all!
