Amazing bookstore. Well curated collection of used books; a majority of them are in excellent condition, and of current interest (i.e. no outdated tourist guides nor cheapie, battered throwaway paperbacks)I was here yesterday on a trip from NYC and came out with affordable books, in excellent or even near-mint condition. You can tell that this place has a passion. You wont find a place like this in NYC
A good used book store isnt an easy thing to find these days. But Dove & Hudson is keeping up the good fight. If you read and you like great spaces to browse books you should be stopping by ASAP
Excellent selection and friendly staff. Much more fairly priced than other bookstores in the area and even better deals than online marketplaces. A favorite!
Fair prices, organized well, friendly staff. The name is the location. At the corner of Dove and Hudson. Lotta 1 way streets, parking can be challenging. Box of free books outside and a dollar rack inside means youre nearly guaranteed to leave with something.
Love going there just to peruse and always seem to leave with a bag full. Definitely a must stop shop for the lover of books/texts. Cannot wait until the next time I go!
This is one of the best used bookstores Ive been in. Great selection, fantastic prices, and the guy who works there was really sweet. We chatted for a while about books. Very welcoming atmosphere and its clear he cares a lot about the books.
Very nice used bookstore. Best curated selection of books in the Capital Region with a bias towards highly intelligent stuff. I discovered several cult classics here, for example Journey to the End of the Night by Louis-Ferdinand Céline.
One of my favorite bookstore in the world. A cross between Paris and the West Village bookstores. Wonderfully friendly gracious knowledgeable owner. I must stop at least once a week. A gem in such an historically beautiful city
Owned and run by a kindly gentleman who knows his authors and has an encyclopedic knowledge of is own inventory, this place is a neighborhood gem. Skip Amazon and support a local business while paying less than retail, this shop is a charm.

My favorite bookstore in the Capitol District!
My husband and I have been visiting various bookstores throughout New England and the surrounding area for over forties years. It is our opinion that Dove & Hudson is the best bookstore that we have experienced for the following reasons: the books are in excellent condition and priced very reasonably, there is a constant influx of new and interesting stock, the store is neat, bright, and clean with a bathroom available, and the owner is friendly, intelligent, and helpful. We consider the owner a business friend and we strongly take exception to the two very negative and truly unbelievable reviews above.
Loved this shop! Books are in really great condition and the people are friendly. We browsed with the kids and came away with some good selections.

They have almost any book you might want.He had a first edition, The French Chef by Julia Childs in Primo Condition which we were looking for for a gift at a very reasonable price.
Small cozy book store. Good for browsing, but not the type of place where you would sit and read. Some sections, like architecture, have better selection that you would think for a store this size.
I try to go here at least once a month. The few staff are informative, intelligent, personable and know their store inside and out. There is a wide selection of affordable books ($4.00-$7.50 for most, including hard covers) and there is rarely more than one or two other patrons crowding up the joint. Dove & Hudson is truly a local gem.
Great dart board but only 2 usable darts makes it tough to pass the time with a game.... A bit noisy for conversation but we still managed to meet a few new folk. Friendly fast service.

Much better than other bookstores in the area. All of the prices are reasonable, and the selection is fantastic. I have never seen so many of my wishlist books in one place (and in a used bookstore!). If youre into sports books or other ephemeral self-help type stuff this isnt going to be your place. If you are interested in history, Literature, science, any of the humanities, then you have to visit.(there probably was a sports section, now that I think of it)I find it hard to believe that the owner of this store would be insensitive or racist, as a few stregs have attempted to explain in other reviews. Why would they carry such an extensive (and in some instances very radical) selection of black intellectual work? Racists dont sell books on WEB DuBois or books about Touissaint Louverture in their used book stores.I will be returning.

I use to suggest people go here until I heard that the owner attempted to dissuade someone from visiting the bookshop around the corner on Hamilton Street.. I mean... really? Independent bookstores should back each other up.

2022-06-03Very nice bookstore. Ive driven by this place for years and never stopped because I wasnt sure if it was open and Im not in that area too often. I happened to be in the area so my friend and I decided to pop in.Very clean and organized. Deceiving as well as we imagined it would be tiny inside. The age old adage applies Dont judge a book by its cover.The quality of the used books were as if they were new. The prices are very reasonable as well.Nice gem!! I will definitely be visiting this bookstore again.

2022-06-22I really love this place. Ive probably driven by it dozens of times and didnt even notice it was there, but I made a trip to Albany just to go here and didnt regret it. We spent way more than we meant to because all of their books are really reasonably priced and they have such an amazing selection.The guy behind the counter was also really nice, asked if it was our first time and just made us feel welcome instead of just two wallets with legs.

2021-09-12This charming small independently owned book store sells new and gently used books. It offers a wonderful selection of adult and childrens books. It is well organized and most welcoming. The prices are very reasonable and the staff is very helpful.
