Ive been here probably 20 times and not once have I had a less-than- incredible experience. Their espresso, pour-overs, and specialty drinks are always top notch, and their baristas are always friendly and informative for any coffee enthusiast. Highly recommend visiting this coffee shop! Druthers Coffee...please open up a second location in Smithtown so I dont need to commute 15 minutes to visit :).
Absolutely livid at the size of my latte for $5+ tax & tip totaling $7 for three sips. It is completely unacceptable to sell portions this small, 12oz is standard and I had no reason to believe I was getting a baby sippy cup until it was too late. Photos for size reference. Do yourselves a favor and just go to the Dunkin next door. At least you’ll get what you pay for. Super disappointed they are taking advantage of students with these prices and sizes.**REGARDLESS of the name of the beverage, latte or another warm drink, I shared correctly how much the cost was and how you expect to receive a 12oz cup at any coffee shop for that price. It was not advertised anywhere that their ~special~ not considered latte drinks come in 8oz for $5 and you are meant to spend $7+ to receive a normal size... This is purely a buyer beware so that others do not walk away with a similar disappointment. Clearly from the lack of apology or offer to make this right, I cant say I will be coming back to spend more money to receive what I should have received the first time.
Visited for the first time this morning, and it is now my favorite coffee shop. I wish it was a little closer, but Ill have to find some more excuses to go to Stony Brook. Coffee was absolutely delicious, and they have multiple vegan options which I will have to go back to try. Very bright and open atmosphere and super friendly staff.
Wonderful cafe! Everyone is very friendly and helpful. The Egg sandwich on the Everything Bagel is simply amazing. Great coffee & tea (hot & cold). They have good Wifi and dont mind you sitting and working for a while. Convenient location, practically across the street from the Stony Brook train station and just a few minutes from the Stony Brook University campus.
***NOT DOG FRIENDLY***Nice looking place. Was turned away at the door with my puppy.Since I’m not allowed to respond to the response below:No signage is posted that I could find. I was not told that upon entering, I was told that the dog has to be outside and then pointed. Also, please review the law. Companion dogs are not allowed in dining areas or food preparation areas. Your take out counter is not a dining area.If you do not want to allow dogs in the establishment that is your choice but do not hide behind a misinterpretation of NYS law.
We go often. Nice place. The different selections of coffee I have had, I like. They some more small food selections. More than a muffin.Today, we had the Avocado Arepa Toast. See the photo. To me, the taste of the Arepa is similar to a gordita. I could have it often for breakfast.
Ive tried dozens of cafés around LI and this is by far the best one. The quality of each menu item is superb. The employees were nice and provided excellent service. Their vegan options are excellent as well. Be sure to try the vegan bagels with tofu cream cheese, and grab a vegan baked good too!
BEST. COFFEE. EVER.Seriously, this is the best coffee I’ve ever had. They only use the the best coffee, and they make all of their own flavors. No overly sweet, fake, artificial flavors like you find at the giant corporate outfits. The owners and staff are extremely friendly and courteous.Food is great as well, but plan on it taking a pretty long time 🤪Truly happy to have a place like this in three village.
This place is a breathe of non-franchised air! Huge windows on three sides create a bright, spacious and cozy space ideal for reading or chatting with friends; and they also have bistro style outdoor seating that are handy during these pandemic times. We havent tried much from their beverage menu but their cold brew is among my husbands favorite and Im a fan of their herbal tea flavor combos. Were also fans of their 6-or-so-deep pint-sized baked goods selection that are made fresh daily and on-site -- and you can taste that delicious difference -- with the blueberry lemon sconce and olive oil muffin being our faves. Overall, a great place but heads up: theyre a smidge pricier than other coffee spots.
Mike was our cashier and was amazingly GREAT!! Loved the ambiance, the stuff were more than friendly, and one of the customers in a party of two offered and gave us their table, since were had four in our party.:-) :-) :-)Thanks for a great experience!!!Seriously, you can feel all the LOVE and positive vibes emanating from the entire staff!! Thanks again for everything!
Amazing addition to town! Great coffee and tea and atmosphere. I love their iced chai fog! It’s also a great spot to meet up with someone to chat over a cup of coffee OR get out of the house and do work. They have lots of seating inside and outside. The owners and employees are so kind and accommodating. Support local and visit :)
Today I went to Druthers for the third time and finally got food. I have to say the egg sandwich is up there with some of the best Ive had. Its different than what everyone else offers with such great flavor. The teas and coffee are always perfect. The atmosphere is so light and open. I dont live in the area but go to Stony Brook so im excited when school opens back up so I can come here more regularly!
Rather rude and snobby at the counter, and quite overpriced just because theres no other cafe nearby.I asked why theyd charge me $4 for steamed milk (made up price, not on their menu) while cappuccino (=steamed milk+espresso) is $3.75. He aggressively says hes not here to debate with me the menu -- by which he probably meant his own made up price...They also charged about $14 for a small piece of mediocre butternut squash pie.
Druthers has quickly become a new favorite spot for my wife and I. Their coffee is excellent and their pastries are unbelievable light, fresh and tasty.Ive ordered their cold brew several times and it is easily the best cold brew Ive ever had. My wife has ordered a variety of different hot and cold drinks and they have all been excellent (yes, I sampled them all..lol).All of their pastries are freshly made on site and we havent ordered a scone or cookie that we didnt love.Their prices arent cheap but considering what you would pay for a similar, and much lower quality, item at Starbucks it is a no brainer.
Hands down the best coffee Ive had on Long Island. Inviting space, pastries baked in-house, reasonable prices. Its far away for me, but one visit here and Id rather make a special trip for the good stuff than keep going to my local place. Perfection and warmth are a hard combination to pull off, but Druthers does it.
My husband and I just moved to Long Island and were missing a nice local coffee shop. We tried Druthers this weekend and were very impressed. The coffee is excellent! We also spoke to Michael and he was clearly very passionate about both coffee and the customers. We’d absolutely recommend coming here!
The owners are so friendly, the place is beautiful inside, there is outside seating and the coffee is what true coffee lovers are looking for. Whatever you do, try the Blueberry lemon scones...your welcome :)Moreover, they always have fresh water outside for my dogs :)
Eh everyone was saying such great things about this place I got the cold brew and it just wasnt that great. They also dont know about their own coffee, estimated amount of caffeine should be known. The mocha latte also not that great, but I did like that it wasnt sweet.
What a great addition to Stonybrook-Setauket. Excellent selection of hot beverages all made with their own spin. Great alternative to the coffee chains. The baked items are far superior to the thawed goods served elsewhere. If you haven’t tried Druthers yet you’re missing out. Fantastic products and people serving them.
Very open view of passing traffic. Across the street from SUNY Stony Brook. Very popular with the students. I go for either the hot or iced coffee, depending on the weather. Good coffee. Rewards program is good. Found out about Druthers from Newsday in July. And I live in Mineola, Nassau County.
Sorry.. but I have gone twice now just to give it a second chance. The lattes literally taste like water. I truly do not think the barista knows what he’s doing.... I asked for a chai tea latte with a shot and it truly tasted like milk and water . Both times. too bad.

2022-05-01We were in town for a friends wedding. Such a nice coffee shop. Its always a goal of mine to find nice little coffee spots. & this one didnt disappoint!! I made sure to grab some swag (tote bag and some coffee beans!) Because I want to remember to come back again!

2022-04-28Super cute and very delicious! We got an iced matcha latte with oat milk and a dirty chai latte with oat milk. Both tasted great but were quite pricey… great atmosphere! After 12:30pm on a Saturday it got a lot quieter to actually do some work.

2022-03-17Needed a place to sit down and do a little work since I missed my LIRR train, and the next one wasn’t going to be for another 1.5h. Instead of going back somewhere on Stony campus, I spontaneously decided to explore the new stores they had, and saw Druthers. It’s a cute yet fancy coffee shop with either other individuals doing there work, or friends/couples sitting down for a talk. It was quiet enough to work, but a good enough atmosphere to feel comfy talking. I was stuck between 3 drinks (London Fog, Blue Cocoa, and their green smoothie?), so the 2 ladies working in the front helped me decide. :) I decided to go out of my comfort zone and ordered something new (Iced Blue Cocoa), which only comes in one size. I forgot what the ingredients were on the menu, but it was a mix of white chocolate, butterfly pea tea, some other ingredients, and another tea?? So it was pleasantly sweet, but not TOO sweet in a good way. They also have a guest wifi which you need to ask for the password to use. My spontaneous decision to explore and also sit down here was the best decision yet :) will be coming back to try more coffee drinks and the food. The only thing I would have to say is that I don’t think there is a spot to charge your devices? So come fully charged or with a portable! Nice bathroom too.

2021-12-07It was perfect! So clean and pretty inside. Everyone was so friendly and welcoming. I ordered a burnt caramel latte and my boyfriend got a Macha latte, both were delicious. Truly the best latte Ive had in a long time. Similar to Starbucks prices, but in my opinion it is worth it here! Will be back to try more of the food and drink options.

2021-08-23Druther’s was a great, chill café with friendly staff and good food. There was a good amount of seating, (especially outdoor seating!) though there were very few power outlets, so not necessarily a place you can stay and do work. Definitely recommend and can’t wait to go back!

2021-11-18Very reminiscent of great coffee in NYC or one of the surrounding boroughs. Growing up in this area this is a wonderful addition to the town. Some people are complaining about the price, you pay for what you get and what you’re getting here is an amazing cup of coffee

2021-06-08If I had my druthers, Id go to this coffee shop every morning. But I rarely have my way in anything save for my order of their cold fashioned(pictured). Its a deliciously intense mixture of cold brew and bitters, burnt orange and a luxardo maraschino cherry. Their rather stellar barista tells me its going away soon with the season which really should cost them 2 stars, but Ill be kind. The space is clean and bright, the egg sandwich simple but unforgettable thanks to a whole mess of crispy shallots. Outdoor or indoor seating is blessed by lots of sunlight perfect for showing off your love of James Joyce.

2022-03-16Although the place can be crowded at times, I must confess that this is one of the most aesthetically-pleasing retreats in the area. With a very nice interior, coupled with good service, it makes for a good place for a coffee-date or a study session over coffee. Keep it up Druthers!

2022-03-28I would recommend the blueberry lemon scone, so good! The place is filled with natural light and a great place to study or work for a bit. The music is pretty loud so if you are looking for quiet studying you might need to wait for a nice day and sit outside.

2022-04-27Today was my first time went there. Pretty good coffee with a tree(drawn with milk), I like it and will visit in future.I was confused with the menu since some of them only offer in certain time. It would be better to have an announcement in somewhere to inform what kinds of food are ready to order.
