We love East Rockaway Vet! We first started coming here years ago with our dog Dunkin, and when he unfortunately passed away, Dr. Selkowitz & team were so helpful, caring, and kind through out the process. We are now back with our dog Rex and he is always so well taken care of when we come by. Even through out covid, the care is still the best and we also feel incredibly safe. Thank you!!
This is the best pet hospital ever! I have been to several vets and hospitals and none have treated my pet as well as this place! They GENUINELY care about your animals and the well being of them! They even send get well cards. They were able to figure out what was wrong with my cat immediately and ensure that he was feeling better! Thank you so much East Rockaway Veterinarian Hospital! Best hospital ever!!
I brought my 11 year old chocolate lab in on Tuesday Sept 8th 2020 with some arthritis issues, 3 days later he is doing so much better with the medication and treatment that he was given. Dr. Rich and his staff are great people and very helpful. I am willing to take the half hour drive from Babylon because the service and professionalism of East Rockaway Veterinary Hospital. Thank you very much for Everything.Mike T
After many years of searching for a quality vet, I’ve finally found the best! I brought my dog Sophie in as she was having trouble getting up onto chairs and even getting into the house from the back patio step. Dr Xanthos was extremely helpful, kind, caring and patient and with a simple injection, Sophie was much better in no time! My second visit was with Dr Selkowitz to administer Sophie’s overdue vaccinations. His bedside manner impeccable and highly professional. Both doctors are Sophie’s “best friends” I only wish I had found them a lot sooner!!!
Professional, clean and excellent care for your pets. Dr. Xanthos has been our vet for over 10 years, and were so happy to know shes now at East Rockaway. Pleasant staff and nice location. Theyre also very cautious during Covid, and take all steps to make sure you and your pet(s) are safe. Top notch vet care and highly recommend!
Have you ever seen a dog blush? Whenever we take our dog Trevor to the office for a visit, the staff at ERVH practically fight over who gets to see him. Hes always greeted with a big Trrrrrrrrrevvvvvvvorrrrrrrrrrr and tons of attention. For him, all the attention is a little embarrassing, but for us, were happy to know hes in such caring hands.
I love East Rockaway Vet. All of the staff are super kind and knowledgeable. Dr. Richard S took such great care of my dog Coco. They always listen to any and all questions no matter how trivial they may be. Thanks for always treating Coco like part of your own family !
I have new german shepherd puppy at home and months before picking him up I researched Vet’s in the area to make sure I picked the best one. I have 2-3 Vet’s within 2-5 minutes from our home but for the most part I trust reviews especially when it comes to someone caring for their beloved pet. The Vet’s closer to home had reviews and comments that concerned me, I am not putting down their practices as I have no personal experience with them, but I just felt trying out East Rockaway Vet was what I felt more comfortable with. I called to schedule a visit when the time came and Joanne was very kind and friendly, took her time, and explained the process and how to submit paperwork before hand for our puppy to save time. The day of the visit I had to change the appointment time (working in a healthcare facility I know it can be annoying) but it was do able and no one made me feel bad. I appreciate the precautions being taken now during covid, only one person at a time (with a mask) and call when you’re outside and front desk will let you know when to come in. Everything went smooth and I didn’t have to wait, right on time. The girls were so kind that evening (I wish I remembered their names but I’ll make sure to find out next time), they were super sweet with our puppy. Our appointment with Dr. Xantos exceeded my expectations, she was so thorough from head to tail. I appreciate so much that she has knowledge of german shepherds as a breed and also asked questions/gave us tips on how to help our puppy at this age and will continue to do so as he gets older. Donovan, her assistant, was so kind and gentle with our pup. Everyone was just so nice and it was such a pleasant experience. Before our next appointment our puppy has had a stomach upset. I called worried on a Saturday and was given an appointment very quickly. Dr Xantos took her time evaluating him and prescribed a food to help that has done wonders up until now. I have family about 20 minutes away, who has used a local vet for the past year and really likes them for their cat but there weren’t any appointments for their new puppy any time soon. They booked an appointment at East Rock and loved it, same experience with Dr Xantos and they are willing to drive a little longer. Kindness and professionalism go a long way, East Rockaway Vet has it :)
When we brought our new dog here, had no idea what to expect! They were so welcoming and professional, both with our dog and with us and took the time to explain all the required shots - which were optional and which were not. Definitely a comfortable place to be and highly recommend.
Dr Zanthos who cared for my Rocky and Pebbles was extremely thorough and explained every step of care in the office during the visit along with recommendations to follow at home. Very caring and attentive to my concerns regarding medications. Very refreshing to have a health care professional who listens and values your concerns. Wish people doctors followed suit. Thank you.
You will not find a better staff or vet anywhere. Dr S has amazing bedside manners and is very knowledgeable. His staff is professional, caring and courteous. Also need to mention the place is clean as a whistle and you can eat off the floor. Prices are very reasonable as well. Highly recommend.
My experience with East Rockaway Veterinary Hospital has been as perfect as a vet visit can be. Luke, my dog, was well taken care of by Dr. Xanthos. My dog had been excessively licking his paws for 2 years and 2 other vets did nothing about it but Dr. Xanthos was able to diagnose environmental allergies and he’s been fine ever since!! I LOVE East Rockaway Veterinary Hospital🥰
We love East Rockaway Veterinary HospitalThey have taken care of our cat since we first adopted him in 2009 as a little 15oz kitten, and now they take care of our dog too.Our animals are also like our children and whenever I have had a scare with them, they got us in so fast and made us feel at ease and took care of them. Even during a pandemic, they had great protocols in place and it was smooth and easy. From the time I thought our cat had a tumor, which was just chin acne..to throwing up a worm 🤢 and all the wellness visits in between thank you Dr. Selkowitz and East Rockaway Veterinary Staff 🐾
Dr. Selkowitz and his team are all amazing. We have been seeing him for years and I could not say one negative thing about him. He is kind, compassionate, thorough and knowledgeable... I always leave there feeling as though he truly cares about my dog. I highly, highly recommend!
Let me preface this review by saying that I NEVER write reviews. Ever. However , My experience here compelled me to write this one. My dog was 15. He began to act strangely and wouldn’t eat. We brought him in a few times and were given medications to administer. Suddenly , he lost the use of his back legs and seemed to be in pain. I called the emergency number at around 8pm and the doctor wasn’t very helpful in guiding us toward a decision about what to do that night nor very empathic. He seemed rushed to get off the phone. Inevitably we had to put him down. It was horrific as anyone whose lost a pet knows. We had an appointment for 11:30, and wound up waiting in our car over a half an hour. After he died and I said my final goodbyes I just walked out of the room with no one there to offer a kind word or I just left my beloved dog on the examining table and found my way out of the office. It’s been two weeks since our boy passed and nothing has been sent to even acknowledge our loss. My mother had to put her dog down recently and used a different vet , a week later she received a heartfelt card acknowledging her loss. It makes a difference. I’m not looking for someone to blame, we had our dog for 15 good years, but to have to put him down and not have our vet call or send a card is just reprehensible. So much so, that I felt compelled to write this review. The waiting in the car for 30 minutes I can forgive, I can also forgive the medications and tests he prescribed for almost a thousand dollars even though he may have thought that it was just buying time. What’s unforgivable is that we are mourning our loss and the vet whom we trusted our pet with didn’t send a card or even call. Horrible bedside manner. Poor form.
Very clean. Very professional.. Had a little emergency with my dog and they took me immediately and everyone was so friendly. We got to the office and everyone was social distancing, one person per animal and they were very thorough and we were in and out and on our way. Highly recommend East Rockaway Veterinary
The East Rockaway Animal Clinic is so awesome! I brought Critter there in his last days, they were sympathetic, nice, and honest with me. They went over everything they could try and when it was too late, they helped me put him down as soft and humanly as possible. Then, unbeknownst to me, they donated to the College of veterinary medicine in Texas in memory of Critter. I just found out when I received a thank you letter today.
I can’t say enough fabulous things about Dr.Rich Selkowitz and his staff! Caring, considerate and compassionate are just a few things that come into mind! Kathy, Joanne , and all the employees are wonderful and accommodating! Dr. Selkowitz is so good even my not so friendly dog is at ease with him!! I would not trust anyone else with my precious Mimi. I wish my own doctor was as knowledgeable and compassionate!
Dr. S. Has improved so much my dogs health. He is very honest and kind. Place is big enough to do what they have to do. Staff is very helpful, the offer water and treats for your pets. Price is reasonable and in occasions when visiting on repeating occasions they have waived the visit fee.
I was very happy with my experience here. I brought my cat here because she had a little redness on her face and I was concerned about it. Dr. Selkowitz gave her a full exam and told me that it could be an allergy but just to monitor her first because he did not want to push any shots or medication on her if it was not absolutely necessary. Very nice doctor and everyone in the office was so great as well. I highly recommend this place.
I have had no problems with Dr. Selkowitz while my dog was the ages of 3 mths to 11 years. That is because she was healthy. It’s not that difficult to take care of a healthy dog. When my dog turned 12 she was forced to see the new “DR” in the practice. After seeing this woman twice, my dog has never been in worse shape. My dog had a UTI that would go away. This genius re-prescribes her the same Medicineshe already failed on. The same antibiotic you’ve failed on is not going to work, even at a higher dose. Clearly a different class of antibiotics is needed that covers a different spectrum of bacteria. Im not a Dr.And I can tell you that. After 4 days of doing whatThis woman suggested, against my advice. MyDog is worse than ever. My dog also has torn ligament and an orthopedist at the Westbury emergency vet put her on gabapentin. She’s been fine for years. This genius changes her medicine and when I call back Dr Selkowitz and say the new meds aren’t working, he says leave her on it. IEssentially, leave her in pain. I had to force him to switchAntibiotics. She’s been a complete mess. For the first timeEver I had to carry her up andDown the stairs bc she was in too much pain to walk. I called the Westbury er and they said but he backOn the gabapentin immediately. I already see improvement. That Woman dr said gabapentin is only for nerves- it is actual a widely used medicine for dogs for all pain. A dog orthopedisttold me that. I am disgusted by this experience. My dog suffered needlessly for a week while I had constant anxiety attacks bc I was scared. MyDog is 12 and I need a vet I am confident thatCan treat the problems of an aging dog, I have lost complete confidence in this practice and am switching immediately to make an animal suffer because you are ignorant and possess a lack of knowledge is ridiculous. I am not sure where that Woman’s credentials are from, but I wouldn’t be surprised if it was an online course. I have never met a vet that knows so little. alsoI would like to mention, they are ridiculously overpriced. IPaid two hundred dollars for my dog to be sicker than she has in her entire life.
They are the best - always a great experience!!! Dr. Selkowitz and his staff are extremely friendly, knowledgeable, compassionate, and helpful. They genuinely care about your pet and will always go above and beyond to do whats best for them. We are very grateful that we found them and would never even consider going anywhere else!! VERY HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!!!
Ive been a cat owner for about 50 years, and have been to many different veterinarians. Without a doubt, East Rockaway veterinary hospital is the best of them. Dr Selkowitz is extremely knowledgeable , and up to date on the latest in veterinary medicine. His office is staffed by a group of bright , compassionate people, who go out of their way to accommodate the needs of both their clients and the animals they care for so competently .
After calling about five different places, (as my vet was not in) I called here and they gave me an appointment right away. I was so grateful as my little dog, Cloud, had an ear infection. The receptionist was so nice and professional and the office was spotless. The vet was so gentle and kind to my little dog. This is definitely a place where you can tell they love and put animals first. I highly recommend anyone looking for a great vet to go here, you wont regret it. We found a new vet! Thank You!
I left another local practice I was dissatisfied with to come to ERV. The staff is so friendly and helpful-from the first phone call to drop-ins. My dog had a cruciate tear and they were able to quickly give him some relief and take x-rays to send to a specialist to repair it. They are very reasonably priced and have accessible hours. Im glad we switched over to their practice!
*update to reply*Everything you said doesnt justify the way you treated me. You were unwelcoming, rude, condescending and acted like I wasnt welcomed to begin with. This was unexpected emergency visit. I dropped everything that I was doing to bring her to your office. Your office never mentioned sedatives when they offered me the appointment. The only reason they even agreed to see her was because you had a cancellation and appointment was available. So dont make it seem like you somehow accommodated us.The first time I brought her, I wasnt allowed inside your building and I think its pretty understandable why a rescued dog would be scared. I never gave your office hard time and I obliged with all your requests, I even paid for a tranquilizer that you requested. For you to act the way you did is inexcusable and unprofessional. If you are burnt out from spending 75% of your time treating animals, maybe take a little break, recharge and refocus. Dont take your frustrations out on paying customers. I am not the only one who has complained about you and based on the way you respond to your customers it clearly shows your true ugly nature.I can understand why Dr. Richard Selkowitz didnt want to treat my dog that I brought in for an emergency. I can accept that he is afraid of dogs and from his demeanor I could even see that he has a genuine dislike for dogs. However that shouldnt stop a professional from well, being a professional. This poor excuse of a Dr was rude, condescending and indifferent, told me to go find another veterinarian and then lied on his report and said that I left. No, you POS, you told me I dont have time for this and go find another vet. This man came off indifferent and cold hearted All this poor excuse of a doctor had to say was Hello Filipp, my name is Dr. Richard Selkowitz. I am afraid to examine your dog without sedatives and a muzzle. Why dont you try and wash her eyes with warm water and if the problem gets worse, bring her tomorrow, I will give you a sedative to give her before the visit. How hard is that?
Hands down the best vet and staff you could ask for! Dr Selkowitz and the entire staff treat your pup like their own - they are like an extended family who truly care about your pet as much as you do! They also take the time to know each animal and family - to the point that when I call they know exactly who I am and who my pet is without having to pull up a file. There is no one else I would rather have care for my dog!
I brought my dog here when our regular vet was fully booked and I wanted to bring him in for what I thought was an ear infection. Dr Selkowitz informed me that my dog had allergies and provided me with 3 page, in depth packet about the different types of allergies, symptoms to look out for, and possible treatments. Several days later, I received a card in the mail welcoming us to the practice. I had never received such treatment from a vets office before. Great experience and will definitely be switching over to this office.
We have been using Dr. Selkowitz for years.... We are up to our 5th dog, our French Bulldog Louisa LaRue.... We can always count on Dr. Rich and his caring staff to always treat our doggies with tenderness.... We always know they are in the best of hands at East Rockaway Vet!!
So happy I found this Vet, brought my bulldog Mia to see them and everyone was so very nice , I felt like I was leaving her with a family member. They took very good care of her and made the whole stressful experience a really good one. The staff and Dr Selkowitz are really great!
I would recommend ER.Veterinary Hospital to anyone. Dr. Selkowitz and his staff are very professional compassionate, caring people. They provide excellent pet patient care and they truly care about both pets and pet parents.Dr. Selkowitz doesnt just treat patients, he explains things and teaches pet parents about whats going on. They live up to their saying that Pets truly are members of the family
Dr. Selkowitz and his staff at East Rockaway Veterinary Hospital treat our animals like they are their own pets. And it shows when our dogs go there because they arent ever afraid. They always are greeted by name and they bound in with tails wagging!! We have had six dogs and two cats under the care of Dr. Selkowitz over the years (so we are there quite often) and he takes wonderful care of them. He has great expertise in his field. He always explains his diagnosis in a way that we can understand. Everyone there is so friendly and sweet and goes over and above to be helpful and accommodating. And they show a great deal of compassion too. The office is clean and inviting. We would never, ever go anywhere else.
Great place. In this time of uncertainty, they staff here is doing everything possible to service our pets and keeping safe. At arrival they pick up your pet from the trunk or car so that the human doesnt have to come in contact with the staff. Pay over the phone. done.
I think that the only way the experience could have been better for Mikey was to not leave him in the first place. It took him a day to get back to normal and his usual routine. Since he is a senior he doesnt bounce back quickly. If I have to leave him I feel comfortable leaving him with you since he knows everyone and they know him. Thanks for taking such good care of him.
Over 30 years ago when we moved to East Rockaway, one of the most important things we sought out was a vet for our fur babies. How lucky we were, then and now, to have East Rockaway Veterinary Hospital right here in our neighborhood. So long as we have pets they will be in the loving, attentive care of Dr. Selkowitz and his most capable, compassionate, and friendly staff.
We were walking our dog, Buster, at 4:45pm. and I noticed that he was having a problem peeing. We moved into East Rockaway a year ago and have never met Dr. Selkowitz or his staff.I looked in the phone book and East Rockaway Vet was the closest to us. I called their office and even though they said they were leaving at 6pm they were nice enough to give us an appt. immediately (I must have sounded desperate).Everyone in the office was very friendly and after Buster was examined, it was determined that he needed surgery. Obviously it was upsetting but for some reason I had complete faith in Dr. Selkowitz.I was totally right!! Buster is doing well now (he still doesnt like going to the vet, as my children didnt like going to the pediatrician) but his peeing problem is fixed.I would highly recommend East Rockaway Vet to anyone who asked.
This was the second visit to East Rockaway Veterinary and the second visit was even better than the first. We recently decided to switch Vets and we couldnt be happier with our selection. Everyone from Kathy and Joanne to Dr. Selcowitz and Alicia were warm and kind, demonstrated knowledge, care and a sincere desire to make sure that all of our needs (our dogs) were met. Dr. Selcowitz took the time and energy to discuss our questions and or health concerns and made sure we understood all options. Alicia was super sweet and loving not only to Milky but to us as well. We are truly grateful to have found such an awesome, clean, professional and caring team to bring our nine year old lab !!! we immediately felt at home and like family !!! thank you to the entire East Rockaway Veterinary Hospital Team !!!
I’ve been coming to this place for 8 years. I Spent thousands on surgeries for my pet. Today 7/2 /18 the same pet was not feeling well so I called and asked if he would see her, also I asked if I would be able to make the Payment on Thursday he refused to see her saying he needed the payment..i guess he’s only loving your pets when there a payment first. WHAT A SHAME! I will forever give this place a negative review as long as I’m alive. Also by the way it’s still 7/2/18 and I’m going to See a real veterinarian Dr. Roufail in Howard Beach Ny it’s about love and care first then money
Can I give 10 stars??? East Rockaway Veterinary Hospital is hands down the best Vet I have ever used. My entire life we have had animals big and small, furry and not. Moving into a new neighborhood you can be skeptic on finding a new dr. When we rescued our big boy Buddy the woman told us about these guys and Im so glad she did. Immediately we felt like we knew the staff all of our lives, even our boys love to see them... most of the time (nobody really likes going to the dr). The entire staff is extremely professional and you can tell they all love animals and do this out of the passion and love they have for animals. They are more than honest and I have never felt more comfortable with a vet, ever! I highly recommend them! Dont believe me? Go see for yourself, and while youre there give MoMo, Roscoe and who I call Big Daddy (youll know him when you see him) some love!
I am sorry for this review but after my visit I am traumatized. They threatened to kill my cat if I could not pay them up front. When I was upset and frantically crying and calling all my family to help pay this with me a coustmer passed me by and called me trash. I am an expecting mother in the middle of my first trimester, which I stated to them and they said nothing. I cannot and will not recommend this place to absolutely anyone and I will not be going back. I am absolutely mortified. Youre specialist who saw me didnt even introduce himself. Im sorry Im not rich out the booty. Im sorry that my cat is dying and Im an emotional pregnant women but I was treated unfairly. And like I said I am not going back. This place is not recommended to the little people who are poor like me and my poor cat

2022-05-04Wonderful animal hospital! Everyone there from the doctors to the receptionists to the vet tech/assistants are amazing. From my first visit, which was at the height of the pandemic, with my very sick little boy, I have known nothing but kindness and compassion from all the staff. The care afforded to your pet is top-notch, as the doctors and staff care for your pet as if he/she is part of the family. Dr. Xanthos is truly wonderful. Highly recommended!

2022-03-31I have been going to East Rockaway Veterinary Hospital for over 6 years now and have had a great experience every time. While both Vets are wonderful, we have seen Dr. Xantos the past few times and I really cant express how much I like and trust her. She is thorough, overexplains (in a great way) and shares an honest opinion. She has never once pushed me into a procedure or doing something for my dog that wasnt absolutely necessary. Shes so knowledgeable and patient which goes a long way. Also, the entire staff, front desk, physicians assistants, etc - everyone is so pleasant and kind to both my dog and to me! Easy to get an appointment; appointments are prompt - Im never waiting there long. Truly love my experience there and recommend this Vet highly.

2021-09-06I wish human doctors & facilities could be this wonderful! Dr Rich has been taking care of my dog for almost 5 years now & has brilliantly managed him through everything from the occasional mild illness or skin infection to dental procedures to some more rather rare conditions. Never a long wait for an appt & seen rather quickly in emergencies. The staff have even called the next day to check up on my dog after some sick visits!! Any calls or emails are always responded to promptly, including a late night chocolate incident & more recently corn on the cob 🤦♀️ The office is spotless, the staff friendly & visits are never rushed. Dr Rich always explains his diagnoses & plan & never pushes unnecessary tests. Not only are they all patient with my extremely anxious (ok and maybe a wee bit aggressive at times) velcro dog, but they miraculously tolerate me too & let me show them my latest 614 pictures of my dog sleeping every time Im there. I pass by 2 closer vets to get to East Rockaway & my dog is an absolute basket case in the car so it should say a lot that Im ready to risk life & limb to get there! They really do treat your pet like a member of the family! Loving the new office makeover too, especially the new gender neutral bathroom in the parking lot. Coulda put up a sign that it was just for pets though......

2022-04-07My Lexi loves everyone here at ERVH so much she pretty much drags me across the street every time she realizes where we are! She can’t wait to get inside and get all the love and attention she gets from everyone there. The staff is all so loving, compassionate patient, understanding and professional. My friend and her dog hated their vet. I sent them to ERVH and her dog was no longer afraid to be taken care of.I am so grateful for everyone at East Rockaway Veterinary Hospital.

2022-05-09Finding a vet that works with you has been difficult. I had a terrible experience at a different vet. Ive been on the hunt for a great vet for my precious Suni. Finally found it! Couldn’t be more pleased with Dr. Xanthos. She is so great, knowledgeable, friendly and caring. Shes easy to talk to, listens and addresses my concerns and with her years of experience can assess the situation calmly and never try to oversell on things you dont need.I highly recommend her!The Staff is all friendly, helpful and professional!

2022-05-20Wonderful professional people who take great care of your pet & treat you & your pet with compassion. They call you to follow up on your pets progress after a visit to make sure everything is going well.
