They wouldn’t let us connect 2 tables outside even though we were 6 people and the bar was completely empty - the reason was “maybe more customers will come” . We sat cuddled up there wasn’t even room for the beers. Also the waitress counted the cash in front of us like she was scared we were gonna be short….
Started my evening stroll with their WINGS-- freaking delicious — and stayed a while to enjoy the night.Loved the laid back and funny staff, included the bearded guy with a hat— he’s funny with a growl. This place feel like an OG East village bar. It reminds me of the bars of old, like when I first moved here in the 1990s.The whole street is jumping these days and EV Social is the perfect place to sit back and watch it all flow around you.
Went to this Thursdays Jazz Jam. Super cool venue, good music, excellent vibes. Im a little put off by bartenders being eyes-blinking-at-different-speeds drunk by 10pm, though. Made it hard to get a beverage of any kind and gave uncomfortable energy to those at the bar itself.
This place is small, and wasnt too crowded on a Monday night. We hopped up on the seats by the windows for some excellent people watching and so I could charge my phone (I love when bars have charging stations!)We got here at 7:59pm and took advantage of the happy hour ($20 bottle of wine), so I cant speak to the drinks here, but this was a nice place to spend an hour before dinner. There was a band that started around 8:15, they were very good. Once the band started, though, I think there was a cover. Not sure how much it is.
I mostly come here for trivia, but its a nice intimate divey experience as well. Feels like a neighborhood joint; the bartenders are friendly, and they have a house band. Beer selection is okay, and its not that clean, but its not pretending to be any more than it is.
Fun place for a local drink with friends. The back of the bar has Pac-Man and connect four, which is always a plus. Also, in the winter they have a vodka cider drink that is absolutely delicious. The place is usually crowded, but not packed where it’s hard to find space.
I dig this place! Its has such an old bar feel and comfort. The bartender, Dee Dee, is beautiful and knows how to handle a busy bar. Shes quite appreciated according to the compliments posted in the bathroom. ;) Overall, EVS is awesome, chill and serves there drinks out of mason jars. Plus, their food is priced right and has a Southern twist. We had the fries with a yummy verde sauce and we give it thumbs up for sure. Best part of this place, are the window seats to look out onto the debauchery of St. Marks.
The worst! They were sold out of 4 out of 7 beers. They said the taps were broken the night before so everyone was drinking bottles/cans and they ran out of most things. (Not sure why they didnt stock up before a summer Thursday night.) The air conditioning was not working and it was a heat wave. The ceiling fan above us was on low so we asked them to turn it up. Instead they turned it off and couldnt figure out how to turn it back on. They offered to move our table of 5 to the bar where it was cooler. (It was not.) 20 minutes after ordering dinner, they told me they were out of the item I had ordered. An hour after we ordered, we still had no food. They had the nerve to tell us that they needed a card to hold our table because the shift was changing. (Yet we had the same server all night.) My friends got extremely bland chicken sandwiches and didnt get the jalapeño aioli sauce it was supposed to come with. 10 minutes after asking for it, they gave us mayo. They said they didnt have the sauce because the menu was changing. They never refilled our water, in a heat wave. Needless to say, I will not be returning.
Since I was a kid. My family hardly went there because it is a big place tucked inside a shopping center (usually meaning lots of people/long lines, mediocre food, even worse service than already, etc). However, we went there recently because my mum mentioned the cheap special---M-F and maybe Saturday: all dishes for $2. We got there too early around 9 AM on a Tuesday morning, so there were hardly any dishes going around.Food was fine---on par with what I expected. My only gripe is that some were saltier than I would have liked. Whatever service we got was ok (Note: in dim sum, service will always be sub-par of what one would get going into a sit-down restaurant uptown).I got my dim sum fix, so that was all that mattered to me. I would probably go back during off-peak hours when I dont feel like looking for new places to go.

2022-02-15On my birthday several years ago, my wife and I heard some great tunes coming out of a random bar on our way out of a nearby restaurant and couldn’t just pass by…Turned to be one of the greatest birthday nights ever! The music, the vibe, the fact you’re on the lower east side and probably the fact we had a drink or too over the limit too ;)

2022-01-29Amazing place! A dive bar with all the necessities of a 5 star restaurant. Our bartender Evelyn was amazing and incredibly quick with our drink orders. Will definitely be returning- a must visit in the east village!

2022-04-17During a (very) cold Thanksgiving Day a few years ago, the East Village Social was the only bar open in the neighborhood, while people were at the Parade or preparing their Turkeys at home. Tim was a wonderful host, we spent half of our day in there, sitting on those same stools, while the bar got full behind us. Cannot count the amount of beers and drams needed, while Tim was telling us stories and one of my friends got so wasted he kept bumping his head on the bar. Give it a try if youre into fine beers and some quirky chat.

2020-09-24Excellent spot! Great drinks, friendly staff, and the wings on Wednesdays (sometimes Thursday!) are amazing! Just enough kick without being overwhelming. Highly recommended.

2021-06-29I love their music! Their playlist is the vibe you NEED as a retro vintage heart. Isiah and Cortez are the guys as experts!

2018-02-07Really solid hold-over from a bygone time in the East Village: dive bar feel but with good quality beer and honest, approachable staff. Prices are honest and the atmosphere is always friendly, whether it’s a packed Friday night or a quiet weekday afternoon. This is a perfect meeting spot before an evening out in the area, or somewhere to grab a casual beer pre-meal.

2020-10-29Been coming here for a few years. The staff has always been welcoming. Came in tonight and their wings are off the hook! Spicy and meaty. Definitely the spot to check out on St Marks.

2019-08-14One of my fave chill spots in East Village. Cozy little joint. Beers on tap and always a nice touch when you can catch some live music!

2019-12-23A nice low key spot on St. Marks with cheap drinks and live music. My only issue with this place was the service, I walked up to the bar to order a couple of drinks and felt like I was interrupting the bartenders conversation. That being said its definitely worth a stop.

2021-02-21Great food and cool looking aesthetic. David ushered me and my friend to visit the bar while we were walking on the strip and we were super happy that we did. He was super nice and welcoming. Great food and strong drinks! Definitely must visit!
