The staff was polite when we walked into office. The motel was actually large, with several different buildings, and we were put in room 129.When we got in the room was painted nicely, and there was a framed picture of the United States on the wall. They were in the process of upgrading their internet service at the time of writing this review, so we unfortunately couldnt get a connection to the wifi; but thats okay because we just wanted to sleep. The AC unit was rather old, but it got the room pretty cold.We didnt shower or anything so I cant speak of the bath quality. The sink however, had a bottle opener on it for some reason? That was pretty confusing.I wish we had some thicker blankets, because the blankets on the beds were very thin, even for summer.Anyone who likes a very firm bed will love these beds. They were very firm, almost hard, which I found to be very uncomfortable. So anyone whose joints benefit from a soft bed might be sore the next day.The continental breakfast provided included cereal and milk, instant oatmeal, some bread and bagels for toasting, OJ, and make it yourself waffles. Not bad for a motel, but we went to the Village Cafe for breakfast. We paid $80 for one night (on a Wednesday), which I personally think is a tad overpriced but it was a spur of the moment stop on our road trip due to heavy storms so I dont know what the price would be if we had booked ahead.Would we choose the Econo again? No. Actually, we only chose it because everywhere else was booked. It wasnt the best, but it wasnt the worst.
Positive: Nothing¿¿..I didn¿t like anything about this hotel at all. If I had to choose between staying here again or sleeping on broken glass I would choose the glass! Negative: It was dirty disgusting and smelled. I literally couldn¿t sleep because there were loud banging noises all night long that sounded like someone was trying to get into our room and I was afraid for my safety. Front desk girl was really nice and helpful.
Woman at the front desk was very friendly. But my room was $70....and they couldnt find a clean one. Tried offering a room with a sliding door that didnt open. The room I stayed in had broken curtain rods, mud on the bottom of beds, holes in wall, no baseboards, water damaged ceilings and probably mold, and I did not have a blanket (just a sheet). I have been here before 3 or so years ago and it was quaint and straightforward but I will definitely not going back after my last stay.
Positive: Waffles, ice machine worked, staff at desk seemed pleasant to my face. Negative: Floors filthy esp bathroom, shower too short and im only 5¿5¿, employees pitbull attacked my dog and myself while running loose, housekeeper left box of grapes in my room and fed my dog treats without permission- while crated. Cigarette butts everyw
We have stayed at the Econolodge for years -was always my family’s choice. Such a beautiful location, but it has been sad for us to have watched this place fall into disrepair over the past several years. It’s almost as if the powers that be have forgotten about this once lovely property. The rooms need to be updated and repainted-water damage repaired-peeling wallpaper that has been painted over should be removed, the grounds maintained, the lobby smelled strongly of freshly smoked marijuana(we checked in on the evening shift), apartments in back are an eye-sore, painting needs a second or third coat and should reflect pride in the work, personal items in front of one motel room indicate that someone may actually be living there (straggly potted plants, cat food and dishes, boxes of belongings and garbage at the door), abandoned car with flat tires, tires thrown in dumpster area, and The old Rupurt’s falling apart. This is such a turn off for anyone considering staying at the Econolodge. My 85 year old father actually said that he doesn’t want to stay here anymore…Is the owner willing to discuss the sale of this property? We are interested in discussing this to potentially invest and restore the once lovely site. Please let me know.
Air conditioning took 24 hours to FINALLY cool down. And never received housekeeping. We had to call down to the front desk TWICE to receive clean towels. And to top it all off? The morning we were leaving...FOUND A BED BUG!!! Highly wouldnt recommend anyone staying here. Poor service!!
For the price we felt it was an average no frills hotel. Staff was pleasant and accommodating. Room was clean, all appliances worked. While the room was dated, as we stayed in older section, it had been painted in the few last years. One drawback was the shower head was barely over 5 feet high, I had to duck to wash my hair. Im sure in newer section thats not the case. The breakfast was adequate with choice of 5 cereals, plain bagels, mini dounuts and waffle machine to make fresh waffles. We chose to make waffles that came out thick and fluffy, delicious! Juice machine wasnt working, but a pitcher of OJ was in the mini frig. Coffee had been made fresh. All in all a pleasant stay for the price and will stay again as my kid is in college close by. Oh, its off the beaten path just a bit, but liked the quiet. No traffic noise just the occasional train.
This hotel is very dirty inside and out. There was an overflowing dumpster in the parking lot and a toilet outside the entrance. Our room was dirty and disgusting and the whole place smelled bad. We werent able to get ice because the ice machine wasnt working and there was no coffee pot provided in the room. Overall, this is possibly the worst hotel Ive ever stayed in. I would NOT recommend this place to anyone!
The staff was nice, but this hotel needs a total update. The rates are low, but the quality of my room was lower. The shower was awful. Tiniest shower head Id ever seen and the bath tub barely drained. I was up to my ankles in water by the time I was done showering. Air-conditioning and heating wasnt sufficient. Bed was comfortable, but bedding and mattress didnt seem so clean. Carpeting is old and gross. I wouldve checked out the next morning if I werent already charged for the entire weeks stay. I would not stay here again. I would prefer sleeping in a barn before staying there again. Maybe the rooms are nicer in the other buildings, but I wont be there again to find out.
First walked into the room after a 7 hour car drive, went to use the bathroom and the toilet seat came off in my hand. Went to get a new room and the very nice and helpful front desk lady was having a hard time finding me a new room momentarily because she washt sure which rooms were clean and believed she only had one room that was infact clean. New room reaked if lysol, has to Killy multiple different kind of bugs, room was only made up one day of my 3 night stay. Room felt dirty, out dated and run down. Remembered this place as a halfway decent place to stay when I stayed here 7+ years ago, definitely went down hill from that point.
There was loose hair in the bed and on the chairs. The room was extremely outdated and dirty. The carpet wasn’t vacuumed, the sheets on my bed had dried blood spots on them, the bathroom was not horrible but it certainly could’ve have been sanitized and cleaned better. The room was also very dusty, and upon arriving to our room we noticed how poorly the beds were made. We will likely NOT be coming back! The ONLY positive...the bed was comfortable.
Cleanest room I have ever stayed in anywhere! Front desk manager was very pleasant and friendly also! It is located off the road and it is very quiet. I thought at first maybe we were the only guests in the building because it was so quiet but we werent lol. The two double bed room was very spacious. Beds were very comfortable too.
For what we paid we were satisfied. The staff were ok not extremely friendly or rude. The room and bathroom was clean and the bed was comfortable. The room was big, we had a toddler with us and were able to set up our pack n play comfortably. Some of the lights in the room didnt work and our AC didnt seem to work (luck it wasnt very hot that weekend). Driving up to the building I would have liked to see the landscape be less messy. The grass was extremely long and branches all over the road. I would have liked to have the Continental breakfast be better and more appealing. Overall, we were satisfied with our stay and would come back.
I worked here and if I stayed in a room it would be one I cleaned. I had to get in my hands and knees and scrub floors and reclean rooms the other housekeepers failed to do properly.. the place has had complaints about cockroaches and I was the.only housekeeper recently to do a good job. They dont properly clean or make beds. They refused to pay me and overall the place should be shut down and totally remodelled and new employees completely.
Before staying and after reading others reviews, we were slightly skeptical--but what a pleasant surprise!! The whole experience was exceptional! The hotel staff were pleasant, the room was very clean and smelled fresh, was very large (one of the largest rooms weve ever stayed in) and they accommodated our pet, Olive. They stated they have only three rooms that are pet friendly, our only suggestion is to make more rooms labeled pet friendly so that special accommodations are less frequent. We would definitely stay here again!
The staff is delightful, easy to talk with and eager to serve. The room was spacious and quiet. The king size bed was luscious; so comfortable......the pillows were nice. There were ample towels and washcloths; plenty of desk space/table space to work on when we needed to. The bathroom and room was nice and clean every day. The natural surroundings of the facility were delightful. And the continental breakfast provided was just glorious. All the food groups were represented. We enjoyed our stay there very much.
The Days Inn in North Hornell is definitely an older hotel. I have to admit, when we first stayed there a couple of years ago, it seemed creepy upon arrival. However, I turned out to be very homey and have lots of families staying there. The rooms, though old are clean, and larger than most newer hotels. Rooms have both a fridge and a microwave. My son said the shower pressure was excellent. The breakfast offerings are short on protein and fresh fruit, but the waffle maker is fun. The coffee is good, but the cups are small. In short, this is a low budget hotel with nice people and large rooms. Overall a good value.
Recently, my husband and I, had a need to find a hotel room over a holiday weekend. It was unplanned and all of the hotels in the area were booked, except for this one. The hotel was well off the highway and reminded us of a 50s roadside rest. However, the staff were pleasant and the room was clean. The entire hotel could use extreme updating, in fact the wallpaper was gone in several places in our room and the bathroom was very old. Our beds were okay, not lumpy or sagging, but not the most comfortable either. We paid way more than a room of this quality should be, but I am sure that was because it was a holiday. The free breakfast was very minimal, mini doughnuts, bagels and make-your-own waffles, but it was a welcome surprise for a hotel of this caliber.
I love this place. The Staff here are awesome. Hit 0 on the free phone they give you and staff will satisfy any issues or inquiries. The rooms are clean... Half the price of BW. Whats not to love? Cable tv.. Wifi... Its all good at the econolodge. If you gotta be in this city... Hornell. NY.... Stay at the Econolodge.. It just makes sense.....Im
This place is DISGUSTING! I understand a 24 hour notice to get your money back but when a room you go in and you have condom wrappers, fireball liquor bottles still in there a 19 in. TV, Ive never been so disgusted, and where was the breakfast they felt the need to tell us about when we checked in? Im asking for my money back for the times I am NOT staying there! How hard is it to not give someone who is beyond NOT satisfied? Would you want your family to stay here, cause I sure didnt but there wasnt much choice. Cleanliness in a hotel should be good if not outstanding. The health department will definitely be hearing from me.
I have been to this hotel many times and have been somewhat happy with it. This time the room was filthy, broken. quite rundown. Unfortunately, I wont be returning. I will gladly spend extra money for a room that has be cleaned and sanitized. It wasnt worth the money and there wasnt any wi-fi as advertised nor were we given the password. when i used the phone to call the front desk, it was broken also.
This is the third time staying in this hotel. Our son is a student at SUNY Alfred and we stay the night in Alfred when its moving in day because we have a long commute. We continue to stay here because its a good price and they have a quick breakfast you can grab on your way out. The room is very spacious and was clean except for the bathroom. The tub had hair in it and what looked like a ring around the top of the tub. The towel that was to be used as a bath mat had stains on it. I know its just for your feet but I dont feel its appropriate to have stained towels in a hotel room. The bed was very comfortable. There is no hair dryer in the room but I learned that the last time we stayed there and just brought my own this time.
Its not a five star hotel with all the extra amenities but definitely a good choice economically. Room was worth the price - nothing fancy by any stretch but a very good sized room and CLEAN. Thats all we needed. Setting is beautiful up on the hill and breakfast - again nothing fancy - but lots of basic choices (muffins, toast, doughnuts, cereal, etc.), make your own waffles and really, really good coffee. Staff was extremely helpful and accommodating. Would stay again.
Dirty towels with brown stains on them. Blankets were filled with holes and cigarette burns and covered in dog hair. Actual literal dirt on my bed under the covers. Bathroom molding held together with white duct tape, looks as if it was chewed by dog. Overall gave me a very dirty feeling just being in the room. Not worth any amount of money, you would have a better experience sleeping in a cardboard box in the rain.
Our room was filthy when we checked in. the sheets were dirty and they was garbage and clothing from the previous guests. It took staff more than 30 minutes to come and clean it. Then the hot water was broken. We were given a smoking room when we booked a non smoking room. The smell was so strong it triggered my friends asthma. Never staying in this hotel again.
Should not be a 1 star. Dirty!! Dirty sheets covered in hair, an old blanket for a mattress cover, plaster all over the wall and floor. Luckily I check rooms before bringing in personal items and yes there was a live bed bug. For a little more money go to best western. Very dirty and nasty....we got an immediate refund and left. Receptionist was apologetic and nice....but the hotel should be shut down.
Had the displeasure of staying 1 night, which was 1 night too many. The buildings were falling down, the wooden staircase going to the second floor moves so much when you walk on it you have to hold the railing.Room was beyond gross; AC didnt work, door lock didnt and the manager had to let us in with a master key every time we left. The only good part was when he actually left the cigarette he was smoking outside rather then bringing it into the room with him....Bathroom was disgusting. If you have any plans of staying here in the near future- CANCEL and find another place. Seriously, I would not let my dog stay in this disgusting place... it is terrible
I only rated 1 star but I dont even think it deserves a star. The rooms are awful smells like a basement (mildew/damp). Theres stains on carpets. The beds are like sleeping on concrete. The place is really dark and dim. Theres no deadbolt on my door so anyone who has a card for this room can get in or easily pretty the lock open. Takes 5 min to get hot water for the shower. The hot water in kitchen area leaks. ( In the Sweet)$300 a week I would expect something a bit better then this! Not to mention the manager is completely rood and doesnt care about your input.
We recently stayed one night on our way to New York City. The cost of the stay was too high for the value of the room. The carpet was worn and the room was very dirty. There was a layer of dust on the air conditioning unit. The bathtub would not drain properly while taking a shower and began to back up. The hotel was full and the breakfast room was so small and crowded that you could not get near any food. We ate breakfast at a great local diner called the Country Kitchen in town. We would not stay at this hotel again or recommend it to anyone.
Hotel has potential but poorly maintained. Front desk lady very nice. First room was dirty. Urine on the toilet, trash in the dresser, dirty towels and a few of the laminate floor boards were missing between the two beds. Second room smelled BAD. Phone didnt work. There were cups and coffee but no coffee maker. Got one and it was mismatched and toggled together, but did work. TV remote was wrong one for tv (which was the smallest tv Ive ever seen in a hotel). Got one from front desk and only half of the buttons worked. Front desk lady let us use the one from the office for the night. Fitted sheet wouldnt stay on the bed, and no mattress cover/pad. Breakfast was disappointing at best. Skipped it all together. 3 mini donuts, 2 bagels, a few slices of toast. I did not see any fruit. No yogurt, No eggs, not even boiled ones. There was a waffle maker.
I have stayed at this hotel before and, although dated and somewhat worn, my experience was okay. The staff is courteous. However, this time the room was cold (there was little to no heat on an evening of about 15 degrees outdoors. The bathroom was dirty. There was an empty complimentary shampoo bottle in the bathroom and no liners in trash basket. All of the drawers in the dresser were filled with trash and old clothes. When we asked about the heat, we were advised that because we didnt book ahead of time the room would take a while to warm up. It never warmed up.
Our room was CHEAP, and the front desk person was friendly and fast. The view from the balcony was beautiful during this time of year! That was the good news! The hotels exterior and interior was EXTREMELY run-down and in bad need of repairs and updating. The railing on the aforementioned balcony was literally so loose that if we had had children with us, I would not have allowed them our there. The bathroom was shabby and the tub was not very clean. I might give the chain another try, but not this hotel!
~Now that this place is under new management it seems to have improved immensely! The employees are kind/helpful, landscape is being better maintained and the rooms show great improvement! The location has always been breath taking and great for pictures especially in the fall months. Being that its set on top of a hill it gives the hotel a romantic and quiet setting that really tops off the stay. This is truly a great place at an affordable price. Like others have mentioned, it is indeed in need of minor repairs but I would still highly recommend it to anyone. I heard renovations were being done in rooms anyway and look forward to the next stay. The standard rooms are nice but they also have town houses and suites available if you need to extend your visit~
You get what you pay for, trust me. Came here to just sleep while on a long roadtrip, payed around $65. Before even checking in we had to wait 30 minutes in the lobby while the attendant was on the phone. Finally got into the room, was greeted with a cigarette smell and a nice view of construction workers from out the window. Went to the bathroom and found loose hairs all around the room (see pic). Even the towels had black spots on them, all very off putting. Only reason it isnt a one star is they let us check in very early, and pick the location of our room. Overall, Id avoid this place. There are many hotel worth the extra price in the area.
The rates were reasonable. The desk clerk on the other hand was neither helpful for all that pleasant...bordered on snotty. I learned that they take their money out of your Credit Card even before you set foot in the place...(pay in advance). (They do not trust repeat customers and I did not like that as my past experience with motels has been that they take money when you leave. because I was waiting for a SS payment to go into my bank on tues, I had to be careful so I ended up shorting my stay and paid 1 night at a time. Had problems with my door card and it turns out they never activated it for my 2nd night which caused me to be locked out with my luggage inside. Did not care for this either. The room was fine but the I found light fixtures and a bedside clock unplugged. A/C worked but was very noisy. I do like the fact that my building was smoke free-great idea.I do wish they would address the outside better as the brickwork is cracked and the driveway needs repaving especially as you come up the hill which has many potholes and signs and lights showing the driveways. It has been this way for years and at night, you need to drive carefully otherwise you could go off an embankment as you cannot see where the road ends or turns.. The entrance needs some lights so you can find it in the darkThe business is owned by Choice Motels and some $$$$ needs to be spent here. The beds are very comfortable and the TV is nice. They now use TWC which is better that the Dish Network they used to have.
Staff was friendly. Had no electricity in room just about whole time there the first night. Entire tree fell on room two doors down from us and woke me up scared to death. Still paid full price both nights stayed with no offer of free second night, even though we had absolutely no heat, hot water, tv, hot water. Housekeeper was really nice. Was told the plow would be through at 9:00 am and it finally came around 1:00pm and only plowed one row about 8-10 ft from the room. So we had to park our truck and trailer 2 buildings away. Husband had to haul our stuff through about 3 ft of snow. He was cold and soaked. Then froze all night with no heat in room. I recommend a back up generator.
My trip to the area was a last minute getaway and when I decided to stop for the night I found just what I needed. The hotel was nice and quiet which was refreshing. Its location was close enough to find various places to eat and other places of interest. I didnt go exploring too much on this trip but I will be making a more planned adventure and I plan staying again. The staff was very friendly and helpful. The room was nice and clean. I had no complaints at all with the room or the hotel for that matter.
For a base franchise location and older hotel this location is adequate and what I would expect for its appearance and age. Staff at front desk was friendly, room clean. Only negative if any would be that when we arrived on 1/16 is was zero degrees outside and the temp dipped to below zero before night was over. It takes a long time for those electric baseboard heaters to warm the room up!!!
My stay was quite pleasant. The grounds are beautiful & well lit so I can easily walk my dog at night. It is the 4th time I have stayed at this location & I have always been pleased with the accommodations. I am glad that they allow dogs as I will be traveling a couple of times a year to this area & prefer to stay at this motel. The staff has always been helpful & nice. Would be comfortable recommending this motel.
Been in worse but not many. Just avoid unless an emergency. Dirty sheets, bug bits, seems abandoned. Not the econo lodge we are used to. Booked 2 nights, stayed 5 hours and waited to checkout early. friendly person behind the desk to take the list of complaints did not seem surprised.
My room was very clean. The hotel has a rustic older day look to it. While it could use some upgrades, its better than a lot of other places. I also love the free wifi, sometimes it went in and out but it was good quality. Hotel staff was very friendly and welcoming, answered all the questions I had.
This place is a hell hole. Dirty rugs need replacing , drapes are sun faded . The rooms air conditioner barely keeps room cool , we required a additional fan. Did I say dirty , tile in bath must have been cleaned with dirty water , shower so dirty we wore shoes in it. Paid on price line so we couldnt get a refund NEVER AGAIN. SAVE Your MONEY DONT STAY THERE
Although it looks as they are at least trying to keep up with basics, (had newish mattress and box springs, floor basically vacuumed, nice lady at front desk) this place is sad, dead bugs on window sills,on the floor edges and then several not so dead spiders. Door had been kicked in and wasnt repaired to well. After complaining the maintain man did come in and cleaned till I was satisfied however. Best price around but you wont find me back again
This hotels staff was nice. The room however was not. It was covered in pet hair and stunk. The bathroom was not cleaned well and the shower leaked into the room making the floor wet. The bathroom door would get stuck making loud noises opening and closing it. Not worth the $100 spent.
I have been staying at this hotel for many, many years. Over the years, I have noticed the hotel slowly going downhill. This will probably be the last time I stay there. The hotel is in need of some seriously renovation and staff that are properly trained to clean the rooms. I get that this is in a laid back area but you should really enforce uniforms that do not include jeans and tennis shoes, staff look very sloppy. Definitely not what is to be expected from a large franchise...It was very noticeable that the bathroom was not cleaned by any standards, you could see dirt stains all around the outer edges of the bathroom. The floor had a huge yellow stain. Spider webs around the baseboards and behind the door. The toilet seat was cracked and worn down to the wood in spots. The tile flooring is peeling from the floor, it is very apparent that its nothing new; its been that way for a long time. A few towels/ wash cloths were stained & carpets felt dirty. The breakfast was disappointing and presentation is not a high priority here. For fruit, wrinkled older apples and no other fruits. I couldnt bring myself to get anything. The evening staff was very friendly and helpful, morning staff not so much.I hope that the owners will renovate this place and get it back up to standards because I really do enjoy staying at this location. I am saddened too see its downward spiral over the last 10 years.
This is an older facility at a quiet location. The room was large and clean and grounds kept up OK. Staff was informal and friendly. Breakfast almost non existent and coffee weak and luke warm. There are much nicer Enono Lodges and this one was more expensive than others. While the complex is OK, next time I will pick another hotel in Hormel, NY
Checked in.... Checked out! Absolutely disgusting. First room I was given, mud or some resemblance of human waste in tub. 2nd room, no baseboard, big cracks. Didnt even wish to remove my shoes. Stained sheets on beds. Whole 30 minute experience made me feel sick to my stomach.
We stayed here to visit our son who teaches at the University but if we come again well be looking for another place. We first got put into a room that wafted mold as we entered and had a sticky floor as we stepped in. We went to the office where they (cheerfully) agreed that the room had mold issues and changed us to a room across the hall... ummm... why did they put us in that room if there was another one available that was not moldy? SERIOUSLY... WHY????So in our new room, there was no mold, just a bathroom with a faucet that didnt actually turn off, it continuously turned and you had to find the right spot to make the water stop flowing... and then in the shower, the whole fixture was hanging out of the wall, not to mention such little water flow (aggressive water saver in the shower head) that only a narrow dribble would hit ones body. This new room would actually have been okay, comsidering the price we were paying if not for the fact that not only were the sheets never changed throughout the three nights but on the third night, when we returned to sleep we found that our bed had not even been made! The bedspread that we had pulled out of a drawer for extra warmth had been pulled up over the bed and what was underneath had been left un-touched. While making up the bed for us so that we werent sleeping on the bare mattress, we saw that in place of the bottom sheet there were two full/twin flat sheets, the blanket was a thin ragged thing held between two flat sheets, etc. Blow dryer was melted and stuck in its holder (thankfully I brought my own!)Honestly, the price was excellent and the staff were friendly, polite, and seemed to be trying to help but we could have stayed nearby for almost the same price and probably will next time.
Crawling up the hill to brick buildings w/ doors on the front made me fearful of what we would find. Reception was pleasant. Got keys to first room and found it was not cleaned or made up yet, was musty, dirty. Told them and they gave me another set of keys to another room. The room was dirty old, stained carpets, wall paper torn off, beds not made properly, again turned down the sheets to find hair and dirt, moldy shower curtains, broken toilet seat. It was disgusting. Requested new sheets but had to go to office ourselves to get them and still only gave us 3 sheets. Should have left but didnt want to try and find something else at that time of night. Only staying one night. But it goes down in our family history as the worst hotel we ever stayed at. GROSSSSS
Facilities were adequate for hunting trip but I wouldnt take my wife here. It was marginally clean. Keys had to be reprogramed every day which required a wait in line. Sheets did not fit bed. T.V. did not work first night. It was nice of staff to have breakfast open at 4:30 first two days of deer season. We liked the fact most rooms were accessed from parking space. I would go back for hunting season next year but not for any other visit with family.
The hotel is in need of updates that will probably never come, while the room was clean, the fixtures were dated and the condition was only fair. The bed was hard, pillows older, shower took a long time to heat up. I think, I and maybe three or four other persons occupied the hotel during my 2 night stay. For those who are concerned with security, the door to the building I was in ( hallway access rooms) did not limit access. On the positive side, WIFI was very good and the staff was nice, I can imagine that they have to deal with people who have greater expectations and complain when those are not met. I kind of expected what I got so I was not shocked or upset. There is only so much you can do if the occupancy is low and your in an economically challenged area.
Out dated and not so clean. Damage fixed the absolute cheapest way possible. Really surprised actually because 9/10 times a Choice Hotels everything is good. The bed was clean, toilet was clean, and the shower was clean. That is the only reason I stayed there through the night.Removing the heater AC unit not a bad thing, covering the hole with a cheap panel, that was disappointing.
We were told we would get best room at motel - it was bad. If this was the best – I can’t imagine what the others were like. The so called deck had no chairs and faced hot afternoon sun. No housekeeping service in motel for 2 days. Water in shower - scalding, water in sink - no pressure. Internet connection - slow. Breakfast - not fresh, not healthy. Air conditioning – tried. Beds – not comfortable. Carpeting – scary. The entire place was rundown and worn. Front desk folks dont talk to each other and kept passing the buck, telling me someone would contact me about a problem with reservation- they didnt. I stay in a lot of economy motels, mom and pops - this was not a nice place. The only positive - the location was off the road and quiet. Don’t stay here unless you are desperate, it will leave you with bad memories.
With the scare of bed bugs all over, I was extremely happy and assured that there were non. I DID NOT encounter any in my weekend stay. SO, SO HAPPY ABOUT THAT. My stay was comfortable and with Choice Privileges points, the value was great. Enjoy your stay and sleep in peace. Management was very friendly.
This hotel was filthy, stinky and unacceptable. I went to college for four years and my Fraternity house after a party smelled better than it. I went to 3 different rooms and each room was not serviced. The beds werent made, bathroom was filthy and the rooms stunk. There were beer bottles and cans in each room. If you ever watch Bates Motel, the film could have been made here. On a positive note, the front desk staff was very good about changing my room each time and when I told them that I couldnt stay there due to the filthy accommodations they gladly refunded my money. The only problem is there is only two other hotels in the 30 miles area which required me to drive back home.
We arrived at 10 PM, tired. The receptionist was taking a reservation on the phone. There was one woman waiting. Only one person working at the hotel. When we got to the desk, we discovered that they had given our rooms to another person. We had two rooms together 164 and 166, but someone else was in them. The confusion was because we used points to pay for the room and the other people also used points. Dont know why they didnt use the name on the reservation rather than the payment method. The receptionist needed to call her boss to give us new rooms using points. She was pleasant but not given enough authority. When we checked out the new receptionist had to call the boss to negate the charges for our rooms. Eventually they got down to zero. The rooms were mediocre, clean but sparce. Breakfast was the same. They did have full gallons of milk in the fridge which my group appreciated.Since it was the Sat. night of Labor Day weekend and they were 92% booked, I think the management should have sprung for having two people on duty for the busiest time.We would not stay there again.Pat Buteux
This EconoLodge is less than 20 miles from the Bath VA Medical Center. The outside could use some tender-loving care. However, our room was large, clean and comfortable. Manager was responded immediately to handle a minor problem. Breakfast was good. Checkin/checkout a breeze. Will stay here again when scheduled for early appt. at the Bath VA.
Nice hotel stay, quiet and the beds are soft after a long 8-10 hour drive fromNew Jersey. Good clean room, ice cold air and the ice machine was just down the hall. Overall good cheap over night stay! staff was very friendly, check in was a breeze! Great restaurant right across the street. Easy access to shopping and anything else you may need in Hornell. Very convenient location to the interstate.
Unfotunately this motle is not very well kept. It is seedy in appearance and there are weeds everywhere. The bed was not comfortable and the pillows were small and had absolutely no life left in them. There was a small refirgerator and microwave in the room. The refrigerator was on the floor with the microwave on top of it. Neither applicance was convenient to use.The room had a peculiar odor. I felt there was nothing to be done about it but it wasnt very pleasant. My husband used the shower and said there was plenty of water pressure and hot water. I would not use the shower myself. We did not use the breakfast service so I have no comment for that.Based upon my experience with this Econolodge, I would never stay in another one.
I travel to Hornell a couple times every year to visit family and friends. We usually stay at the Comfort Inn and I have never been very impressed with it. This time we had to make an unexpected visit for a family members funeral. There was no availability at the Comfort Inn and so I stayed at the EconoLodge. The accommodations are just as nice and it is so much quieter. The hotel didnt stink of stale cigarette smoke and there was plenty of parking, unlike the Comfort Inn. The staff was very pleasant and I will definitely be staying here when in town. Better price and much better value!
Old, unclean, and needing of repair. The beds are infested with bed bugs, and you can see the stains of other dead ones on the sheets. The chainlock on the door is almost torn off the wall, and the bathroom door has no lock. Wifi is horrid. AC is noisy. Disappointed. 👎
Very pleased with Hotel in general.Good location and easy access to the area.I find that the bathroom in non smoking need upgrading. Toilets are very low and should be replaced with the high rise ones, some of the tub surroundsare loose from the wall.Us senior citizens who do have physical problems, find it hard to use the facilities.Grab bars should be a must in all bathrooms.
This hotel presents a very worn facade but the rooms are clean, the water hot and the staff is friendly. The wifi unfortunately was non existent and the bed was very stiff (which I personally enjoy, mind you!).. I would have liked to see a bit of fruit at the breakfast but I also understand the challenges regarding produce and breakfast so I wasnt truly disappointed.
The hotel was clean and very accommodating. The only glitch was we had reserved a room from 9:30 am to 3:30 pm just to rest up for a 12 hour return trip to Indiana. Due to lack of communication between front desk and house-keeping, house keeper knocked, and walked in on us while we were sleeping at about 11:30 am. Needless to say, adrenalin kicked in, making it nil to impossible to go back to sleep. As a result the return trip was a labored 12 hour trip. Upon arrival home, we had nothing left to give. Suggestion: Have a better communication between house keeping and front desk.
From the time we walked in our room to the continental breakfast in the morning, it was blatantly obvious we are at a very cheap hotel. That being said, it got the job done.Wallpaper peeling, shower head sprayed weird, bed and pillows werent great, but it was right in line with what we paid. One thing this place has going for it is the restaurant across the street, Club 57. Absolutely fantastic place, they specialize in interesting mac & cheese (I got the Jack Daniels pulled pork mac & cheese, it was breathtaking).Four stars because although it wasnt worth a dollar more than we paid, it was as much as we expected/needed. If we come back to the area wed consider here again for sure.
Stayed here 29 august, 2014, our fourth stay. We have previously enjoyed our stays as well as good sleep, leaving refreshed. This stay was terrible! The room was so unfresh that we opened the window and then not able to relock it, the dead bolt was not lined up to be able to lock the door from the inside. Then the mattress needs replaced and I kept rolling to the edge, thus waking up to move, walk around, and ending with a very poor nights sleep. The cold water leaked in the tub, which dripped cold water on my feet while showering.I reported these problems and the staff seemed appreciative of being informed.I gave two stars because the staff have always been very friendly and welcoming.
This hotel is in need of a serious facelift! Our room was listed as a non-smoking room however it was obvious that they allow smoking in the room which made for a rough night of sleep. The toilet in the bathroom was not attached to its tank nor the floor. The thermastat in the room was a light switch. The continental breakfast was a bit lacking and the coffee was the worst. Sorry, but I could not find one positive thing about this hotel. If we were staying in the area for more than the one night it would not have been at this hotel. Will not stay here again!
Words cannot describe the experience for us and our friends. Even total strangers were upset. Mismanaged, some ice machines were out of order, and the copying machine didn’t work to get a receipt for this fiasco...Manager wouldn’t be in for next 3 days, and others wanted a refund and were told to call on Tuesday. (This was Saturday)We have stayed at a nice Econo Lodge in the past. Never again! We believe there were people LIVING at the motel that receive social services, ie: Welfare. (Section 8 around here...) Poor repair, and should just be burned or dozed over!!!I should mention I am a CHOICE member. Ha-Ha-Ha.
I was very happy with my stay, and would be happy to stay there again. I particularly appreciate that the room was free of cigarette smoke--there is at least one other chain in which a supposed non-smoking room often reeks of cigarette smoke, which I find repulsive even if they leave the light on for me.
We were in the area for our sons graduation from college. I have stayed at Econo Lodges in the past and have been pleased with the accomodations. Therefore, I was pleased to get a reservation at the Hornell Econo Lodge. The stay did not disappoint. Very clean. Helpful staff. Would definitely stay again if I were in the area.
Room smells horrible, several different buildings on site all are run down and dated from the 70s no maintenance or housekeeping, mold in coffee pot, wallpaper on top of wallpaper peeling every where, very dirty. Tv is the smallest I ever seen and not Even attached. Parking lot parties going on all night. Nothing is secure.
No pool, no iron, no ironing board. No comforter on the bed, just a measly thin blanket. All of these items are listed as available on the website and/or in the room. Temperature control was shut off on arrival, so room was 50 degrees in January and took an hour to get to temp. Still, it was cheap and clean.
The Choice Hotel I normally stay in while at Hornell was closed. Choice Hotel online booking failed miserably and shorts this hotel by not allowing state government rate people to book online. The Choice Hotel phone people could not adequately answer my questions but the desk staff was friendly and answered my questions. I felt welcomed. Although they could do better lighting the parking areas and grounds, the room was quiet and comfortable. It had everything I needed to work, except extra coffee packets in the room, there was only one.The refrigerator and the microwave were clean and worked well.
Our stay at this hotel was great! We had a groip of five and slept comfortably with the extra cot. The staff were very friendly amd the room was clean. Breakfast and wifi were great to have too! Across the street was Club 57 Restaurant and we highly recommend you stop in for dinner! We will stay here again if we are through the area!
No security on the one door into our building. our room door jamb was cracked as if it had been kicked in. the sheets were almost sticky feeling like they still had soap in them but they were streaked with dirt/grease and we watched the housekeeper throw sheets outside the rooms across the parking lot onto the sidewalk when she had a cart and then pile the sheets on the hood of her car and drive them up the hill to another building to what we assume was the laundry room.
This place is a joke. Dirty and smells bad! No indoor pool like it says. Pubic hair on our bed and stains, spider webs, mold, wall paper peeling, crap smeared on bathroom wall, carpet looks like it hasnt been cleaned in years, air conditioner had no filter but was full of dust and webs, spiders, just overall disgusting! And the receptionist had the nerve to ask maintenance to check our room before we left! The cable looks like a snow shower. Never Again!!!
We were extremely disappointed in the overall conditions of this hotel. The room smelled extremely musty and stale; the carpet was dirty; there was a burn hole in one of the bedspreads; the towels were frayed and the hem coming out; there was dried food on the shelf in the refrigerator which was turned off, defrosted with water standing in the bottom; our room was located next to the stairs with a garbage can full and running over and bagged garbage stacked on top; the wall paper was peeling; it looked like someone had kicked the door on the inside as there were dirty footprints on the door. We were traveling on an extended vacation and normally stay in the Comfort Inns for about the same price we paid here and have never been disappointed. Unfortunately there was nothing else available in the area so we opted to stay at the EconoLodge. This is the first time and will be the LAST time we will ever stay in an EconoLodge. We are extremely surprised that Choice Hotels would have a hotel of this quality in their chain. In hind sight looking over some of the previous reviews, this is an ongoing problem with this hotel as some of these issues have been previously brought to the attention of management. We are both retire retail managers with an emphasis on presentation and customer service and fail to understand why these issues are on going.
ABSOLUTELY DISGUSTING!!!!! 9-20-18, paid the extra funds for a king bed room. Walked in looked under the mattress and there were actually bugs CRAWLING across the bed sheets. The drain part of the sink was completely rusted over. Asked to be refunded, and it still hasnt been applied back to my bank account. I WILL NEVER STAY HERE!!!!! Only putting 1 star because It wouldnt let me post this unless i did.
The management and housekeeping, as well as maintenance staff are all Excellent and my stay here always is Wonderful. Rooms are always Clean, Well Kept, Bedding with coordinated Bedspreads and Thomas Kinkades Paintings in every room. Rooms have Large Flat Screen Televisions with Time Warner Cable and Premium HBO Channel, as well as High Speed Wi-Fi. The Each have a Mini Fridge, Microwave, Large Mirrors, some with Coffee Makers and a Large Dresser. Every Morning there is a Continental Breakfast, that comes with, Belgian Waffles and Maple Syrup, Your Choice of Apple Juice, Orange Juice, Milk, Coffee 24hrs a Day (Decaf and Regular) as well as Tea. There is also Toast, Various Bagels, with Jelly, Butter or Cream Cheese, Chocolate Chip and Blueberry Muffins, Powdered and Chocolate Donuts, Variety of Cereals and Fresh Fruit. When you arrive you are Greeted by a Friendly and Courteous Front Desk Associate!!!
The front desks staff did take a very small portion off of our bill d/t a dirty shower wall and was able to make our son apple juice from a different container of juice as it was fermented. Our son has a peanut allergy and the staff was very considerate and reviewed all ingredients of the items that he would be interested in to assure us of his safety.
The Hornell Econo Lodge is an economical choice, conveniently located for I-86 travelers or those with business in and around Horrnell, or as a base for year-round outdoor pursuits in the area. The rooms are simple and the furnishings have seen better days, however the accomodation is adequate. All rooms have a new TV, a fridge and a microwave, and suites are available. Staff is friendly and helpful at any hour. Housekeeping is inconsistent, but sheets and towels are clean.
Just wanted to say what a terrible customer service this hotel has. Allow me to explain or more thorough how should i start first when i arrived at the hotel it was very dry and un welled cared for but when i went inside the hotel it was very humed, and when it came to the air conditioner it was letting out bad air cause of the molding it had inside knowing that i was bringing in my kids are allergic to it and one of my son got a a terrible rash cause of that hotel but not only that the customer service was bad they also came at us with attitude also the bathrooms didnt have any curtains and the bed was very hard and was filled with bugs but also I went to change rooms and not only to find out it was in worse condition and me as a father i was tginking about my kids and i know you guys wouldnt want to stay at a hotel thats not taken care of also when i went to get my refund they had that said I have been there more than 45 minuets when in reality ive only been there for 10 allowing me to understand that this hotel is bad but also there scamers i suggests you guys not to stay at that hotel. Thank you very much and i rate this hotel -100
I was kicked out because I am just from Middle East. The owner told me that he had a bad experience with previous visitors from middle east. When I told the employee that I want to book a room, he started screaming and telling me that he will take a great deposit if I want to book a room. Is being from middle east is a problem? Are all people from middle east bad? Disrespectful, maybe racist. Call it whatever you want. Do not deserve one star.
There was a hole in the wall that was not finished repairing yet. There is a bloodstain on one of the sheets and spit on the bedskirt. When I asked to get late check out due to my concerns about the room they would not do anything. When I asked about The blood stains and spit/semen the guy said it was not blood and the fluid on the bedskirt was likely spit… When I asked him how he knew so much about this and he responded that he watch a lot of crime shows. Weird experience overall. Wouldnt go again
We arrived around 10pm Sat and the desk clerk did NOT check me in,he just gave me the key card. The next morning sunday, checkout day he calls me and asks me to check in cuz his boss was on him. So when I checked out I checked in first then checked out. The room was clean but everything was old. Go there only to sleep.
Absolutely horrible experience!! Dirty towels still in the bathroom a USED soap bar in the shower! Toilet paper that was on the roll was all crusty from being wet then put back on!! Extra toilet paper was the same way!! Had NO extra towels available!! Was one of the worst experience we have ever had. Do NOT recommend it!!
Staff extremely helpful and polite. Breakfast OK for the overall price. If looking for an inexpensive stay and not for an impressive facility it is more than adequate. Facility could use an update but than the price would increase and you get what you pay for. Would stay there again for an overnight if necessary.
Decent place, nice folks. Dont expect a 5 star hotel. Its a decent older place that still has lots of character and is nestled in a nice area. Looks like it used to be THE PLACE back in the day. Grounds keeping and maintenance could use a little help but not horrible. Check out Morenos restaurant in Hornell. Excellent food.
Worst hotel I have stayed in. Room was dirty and stunk when checked in and front desk didn’t care. Had to go to the front desk to get a new key card every evening. If I was paying for the room I would have left after checking in and gone somewhere else. And no Wi-Fi.
Overall poor service and room. Party cancelled 3 rooms we had and left. Towels looked like they had been used. Bed linen dirty with burn holes and red spots. Showerhead missing pieces. Staff blaming other staff for things not being done, to customersDO NOT STAY!!!!!!!
Although the personnel were very helpful and friendly, they could not redeem this old and rundown property. Worn carpet, complete with a hole in it, and downhill from there. Econolodge should be ashamed to keep this place open without renovation. We were desperate and no other rooms in area or would not have stayed. And the rates were outrageous!
The bed was clean as was the bathroom, The carpet in the room was filthy with what looked like hay in the corner of the carpet where it met the bed frame. I didnt even let my dog walk on the carpet it was so disgusting. It was clearly noticeable that the floor was filthy. Maybe they give those kind of rooms to people that have pets.I wouldnt
The railing on the balcony was wobbly and ready to collapse. Someone may get hurt if they dont know. I went to lean on it and it nearly fell down! The wallpaper is pealing. The person at the front desk, however, was very nice and courteous. She was helpful for local restaurants, etc.
Nice big room. Wifi throughout. Beds were ok, pillows a little thin. 2 were too much, folded up a towel twice, slipped it into the pillow case and it was good for me. Small fridge and micro.Breakfast is the usual, bagels, bread, cereal. The best part was a waffle maker. No real maple syrup or honey to use, I dont like the fake maple pancake syrup. Some fruit, coffee, juice, milk. Only 3 small tables for 3-4 people each.Less than a mile from highway. Two restaurants right at the entrance. Only 5-10 mins to downtown Hornell. About 15-20 to Alfred.Overall, no complaints. Good value for the money.
It is hard to say things about the hotel. because on my truck routes, I never know where Im going to stay. I can only guess on a few areas. Lately though I have normally found either Quality Inns or Econo. I know from my past driving to Galesburg Ill. I always stayed at the Econo Inn. Which was very nice like yours. So if Im running late again and Im in your area, Ill be back.
First for the good...good location, appealing EXTERIOR of property, well lit.....and ok price....Now for the bad... door was ajar on arrival, floor needed swept, screws, bolt anchors, and maintenance material left on table, air conditioner did not work, 1 wash cloth was gray, floor heating unit was dis-assembled and wiring exposed, front door did not close properly (used chair), sliding door wood frame was coming away from door jam, 1 coffee packet in room, wall paper near table was pulling away from wall and bubblingAt least I got some points...and no bed bugs...Would NOT RECOMMEND!!!

2022-04-06This is a property I would consider only in desperation, perhaps not even then. The general impression is poor, with shabby exterior and questionable individuals evident, loitering in parking lot outside their guest rooms. Smell of the corridor in interior-facing rooms is musty, and grounds are overgrown and in poor shape. Evident stains are on the furniture, such as chair upholstery. Staff could not respond to request for extra pillows, and many electrical outlets malfunctioned. Owners would do well to extensively rehab - or better yet replace - current buildings.

2022-05-12The staff are absolutely super, very helpful and very friendly and do their absolute very best to accommodate guests with what little they are supplied with by the owner. Even the sign over the office outside is so old, faded the whole place is super out-dated and clearly has had little to no corporate or franchise owner attention where appearances are concerned or the shape of the establishment itself. There isnt even so much as a drink or snack vending machine. The owner can be nice at times but for the most part he is rude, super unrealistically bossy/controlling to both guests and staff. Whats advertised in the Google map for this particular location I am quite sure only applies to other locations as far as amenities are concerned. Theres Wi-Fi and apparently Firestick TV which is cool. Nothing else on the initial map/web site is here. There isnt even laundry facility for guests which is extremely inconvenient especially if you dont have ready access to transportation.

2022-05-10I will never stay at this hotel or any hotel run by your corporation ever again. I cannot believe that you would allow people to stay at such a disgusting overpriced Hotel and allow them to charge much more than what I originally booked the room for.

2021-09-04The hotel has a lot of work to do to become a satisfactory overnight stay. The wallpaper was coming loose, bathroom flooring was broken, air conditioner could stand an upgrade. No coffee maker, no ironing board. The bed was comfortable and it had a table and chairs. If someone had not almost thrown out our possessions after the first night, we would have given this stay a higher rating. Still, even before this happened, we had security concerns.

2021-07-31Just moved back to NYS from Florida and had to get a room for a few nights. We were beat and tired from the long drive. We got a room and at first glance it was nice. The AC Unit in the window was very nasty and dirty. It dust was cakes onto the filter. The AC itself was brown and black colored. You can tell it hasnt been cleaned in very long time. There was no phone. No papers explaining about breakfast, checkout times, local food places or even where to get ice. The bathroom was very very small not comfortable to use toilet or shower. The beds were clean and washed. No bugs. The lamp next to bed worked but switch is broken. Sounds like a short when turning them on and off. I just thought this place was good from when I stayed before. It definitely wasnt.

2021-06-13The people who work here are very sweet. I cant imagine the maintenance that goes into such a large place, and I can tell it was clean. We had two rooms. One was freshly floored, but smelled like it had a severe mold problem. The other room was just fine. The setting was exactly the kind I love. It is private, country setting. There were deer and you could see mountains in the distance. I will likely use this place every time we come back to visit my daughter and her family. However I would make sure the room had no mold smell. Likely they had a roof leak and that is why they remodeled. However there is more to cleaning mold than that and it could pose a health issue. as I said the other room on the opposite side was perfect. Very spacious rooms. Having kind and friendly people to greet me made all the difference though. Please treat them good and as you can make some improvements as you can with the issue I wrote about. I recommend this place for sure though.

2021-06-08Positive: The bed was very comfortable. Sink, toilet & shower seemed clean unlike the rest of the room. Lots of hot water. The front desk staff during check in was friendly. Negative: 1st room wasn¿t cleaned after the last guests. 2nd room floors were so dirty we had to keep our shoes on. No carpeting so no excuse for not washing the sticky goop & dirt off of floors. Too tired to change rooms again. Over priced for the poor quality.

2021-10-14Clean, comfortable affordable rooms with big TV and free WiFi. Nice free coffee and breakfast. Very friendly and accountable staff, housekeeping and maintenance. I only have a few minor complaints; there are no vending machines anywhere on the property and the back ice machine is broken.

2021-11-01Bad place to stay. I won’t be back. I’d rather sleep in my car. I had to post 50 minimum characters so rather than just posting “Bad” I had to go into detail. I didn’t want to remind myself of the place but it wouldn’t let me post unless I wrote more. Basically, avoid this place at all costs. Sleep in your car. At least you won’t be competing with the bugs I started seeing everywhere.

2021-12-19Room was not a clean as it should have been, toilet seat was broken. Air conditioner was dirty. The room needed a good deep cleaning
