El Patron in other cities:
This should be a 5 star rating - awesome looking place, bar, lounge seating area, great decor all around. Burrito was extremely filling. Had the passionfruit mojito which was slamming!! Wrestled with giving even 3 stars because the service was really bad, nobody checked up on us, had to go to someone for refill on drinks, had to go for someone for napkins, had to go for someone for utensils... extremely frustrating service, seems like unless you were at the bar you werent really being thought of or considered. The ambiance and quality of drinks gives this review 3 stars... could have been easily 5 stars with just a little little effort from the staff
Such an amazing family owned spot! Yhe visit was great from start to finish - from quick seating, quick and attentive wait staff, great recommendations and delicious drinks and food! The portions were very generous - I left feeling super full and still had leftovers for breakfast the next day. I highly recommend this spot!
Surprisingly pretty good skirt steak. Usually theyre chewy and sinewy as hell, but it was flavourful and edible. Expensive given the atmosphere and quality, but no regrets. The margaritas are also surprisingly pretty good. The language barrier caused a few things to go awry, but nothing too huge.
On Cinco de Mayo, we called 4 hours ahead of time for our pickup. We waited in line for an hour upon arriving on time, only to repeat our order. And Im STILL waiting, a half hour later, for my food. We ordered 2 items off the menu. After seeing people getting their food 10 minutes into ordering, and after politely asking for communication, we complained to the Manager....who then GOT ANGRY WITH US FOR COMPLAINING! Unbelievable. The WORST service I have ever experienced, and thus, the only one-star review I have given to a restaurant. And Im still sitting here, waiting.
The thing I remember the most is the serving size! They were huge! Food was overall delicious but messy, clearly flavor trumps aesthetic at this location. We were a large group so I cant comment on the friendliness of the staff, I imagine they wanted to give us our space to converse, but they were overall polite and impressively efficient. Parties over 5 get a 20% gratuity automatically on the check but with how seamless it was to order, despite picky eaters in our party, and how there was no issues when the food came out, it was well deserved.I took one star off due to cleanliness. The table was a bit too sticky to overlook and I wish the bathroom was a bit more upkept.
I was so excited to go here but wont be going back since I got scammed... I went for drinks and late dinner with my partner. I got two tacos, he got a burger, and we each got ONE drink. The total comes back as $85. That did not sound right to me as I looked at the menu prices before hand. Lo and behold we were charged for two extra drinks that were $14 EACH! And no, before you say it was a mistake, when I went up to my server afterward and brought it to her attention she was unapologetic and gave ME an attitude when I asked for a refund for drinks I never ordered but paid for 🤨 make it make sense... Cause it doesnt. It was either done purposely and erroneously but either way dont serve me attitude when the mistake had nothing to do with me. I got my money back in cash and she just walked away without saying sorry or anything. Wont be going back! (Food was okay)
I’ve been eating the enchiladas here ever since I moved from Mexico- where I am from- so I know all about Mexican food. This is by far my favorite Mexican restaurant in NY (and I’ve tried plenty). The food (& margs) are so good, the service is friendly and fast, and the amount of food you get (for the price) is just what any Mexican restaurant would serve you.So yes, 100% recommend!
Went to the zoo with my parents today’s and we wanted to go get food so I pulled up the maps and found this place isn’t far from the back entrance of the zoo. We sat inside and ate dinner and everything from the nachos to the burrito I had were delicious. 10/10 would recommend and I can definitely see going back. The wait for the food isn’t long either which is a plus when you’re starving.
First time here and I really loved the food and the drinks were great too. The fried shrimp quesadilla was delicious. I think the guacamole was so well seasoned (some places dont put any salt lol). I did appreciate the servers they were so attentive and really paid attention to us. I love that! Ill definitely be returning here.
Love this place - we often order burritos delivered via seamless/grubhub. Today we came and sat at the bar, ordered food and drinks. I got this delish half sangria, half frozen margarita cocktail. Atmosphere is fun, tvs tuned to sports but music was like an 80s mix.. This place is a neighborhood jem!
Always a pleasure coming here. Food is always fresh drinks always HITING. HARD.. 😆 LOL. WELL THIS HAS Great food period. Me and friend try come here any taco Tuesday we can. The shrimp tacos are great. So are the beef and chicken. They have a outside eating area as well. Great menu. Many food options to choose from so enjoy...
Great portions wonderful staff. I love their burritos and margaritas! Theyre burritos are so huge and stuffed to the brim with meat and yummy goodness. The wait staff are always accommodating and its so nice that they always remember me.I’m really torn about my reviews for this place. My review above was for before COVID-19 and I feel their food is still delicious. I also appreciate the thought they have taken in making social distancing appropriate seating and service. In person, this place is first rate 5 stars in taste and quality of service. My 2-3 star rating of El Patron is in regards with their to go/delivery service. First, I really appreciate that they try to make the meal experience similar to their in house dining experience. However, you cannot put a crispy taco in a bed of lettuce and deliver it. Their packaging leaves a lot to be desired and I hope over time this will improve. Because when winter comes I still want crispy tacos. Second, they need to streamline the delivery service by using a service and not trying to have their folks deliver. However, This could improve over time with experience.
Let me keep this simple— best chips and guac I’ve had in NYC, bar none. “But Chance, that’s a bold opinion!” Nah. It’s not. The chips are perfectly crunchy, salted, and a hint of a spice that keeps you coming back. Guac? Made with love. Finally.....the margaritas are crack. Made with the perfect amount of mixer and alcohol. Get two, hell get 3.I normally order the giant burrito and it’s delicious. Who doesn’t want a burrito that can literally feed a family of 4? Don’t pass up on this spot next time you’re in the area!
Stopped in yesterday on my way home. I order an $18 “taco salad”. It was a taco shell filled with lettuce and Pico de Gallo with some meat on top and a side of hot sauce. I never write review, but his was a complete joke. Service was eh, the bartender answered me if I called him but that was about it.
Yesterday, I went to this place with a friend and we regretted it so much. The food was really bad. I had a hair in my burrito bowl and my friends’ tacos were soggy from the salsa. The drinks were so sugary they gave us headaches.Ambiance is cute, but the overall experience wasn’t worth it.
Went there on a Sunday evening. We waited about 3 min and no waiter talked to us. Then a waiter approached us and told us to wait because we were only a party of 2 bc they only had tables that seated 4 ppl open (they wont seat parties of two at 4 top tables). About 5 minutes later we see another waiter seating another table of 2 that had arrived after us.
Horrible experience. I’m currently trying to contact the restaurant and my sister and I have called over 30 times. The line is either busy or continues to ring or does a long beep and hangs up. I understand that it is probably busy due to it being Cinco de Mayo. However, that is no excuse, how about you reach out to customers and let us know that you are busy and the order will either take longer than expected or be cancelled? Just beyond unprofessional. Literally starving for the past two hours since I ordered. The uber eats supper is no help. I really can’t believe this. I’ve never experienced such horrible delivery service. I contacted via Instagram as well and no response. Why not just make it easier on yourselves and call each customer to let them know the status. That would take little time.
PLG is so, so lucky to have El Patron, which is the perfect place to drop by after a walk in the park or on your way home after hopping off the Q. Free chips and salsa when you eat there (always generous) and the crispy burrito is an all-time favorite. A classic. And the staff—great people. Thank you!
OMG the food and my classic mojito was AHMAZING!!!! My girlfriend and I shared guacamole n chips, I ordered 3 tacos... cod fish, shrimp and mushroom. But I only ate the cod because I was so full after helping my friend eat her fajita sautéed peppers onions and mushrooms... the sauce they sautéed them in was incredible!!! Needless to say Im super full so I couldnt enjoy a 2nd mojito even though I really wanted one. Still have 2 of my tacos for manana. Cant wait to go back...so glad this is my neighborhood 💖💖
Ive been coming here for 2 years, several times a week for either bar service or take out. The staff is phenomemal- Daisy is always extremely helpful with take out orders. Bravo, the GM makes you feel like family. And Mauricio makes the best fresh watermelon margaritas anywhere. Ask for the tasty, house-made salsa verde with your go-to order!
Food was delicious, for that they get 4 stars. I didnt drink, but my girlfriends that did, said they enjoyed it very much...for that they would get 4 stars...the 3 stars is because I felt it was not enough lights, and bugs kept flying near our food. ...It would help for the place to be have better lighting. Thank you for the delicious food.
I love mexican food and never in my life have I tasted food so bland. I ordered the chicken fajitas and it had no flavor whatsoever, I couldnt even finish it. The hot sauce they gave me was watered down. For some reason I tried dessert as well and the tres leches was dry. The service could use some work. I burns me to use the race card but I couldnt help but notice that the waitress was attentive to the white people who came in after me but I was ignored. If I were a bad person, I couldve walked out and they wouldnt even realize it. Not sure what the reason for that was, I was nothing but polite and patient. I wont be returning.
Cool spot in the Flatbush area. My mom had the traditional frozen margarita. Really tasty. She also had the steak & shrimp with rice and black beans. Looked really good. I ate the chicken caesar salad. The portions are big. The service was fine. Its a good neighborhood spot to visit.
Went here with some friends a while ago when it was dark. It was easy to find seating. The service was a bit slow but good. They had salsa and chips for the table while we waited for the food. The chips were really good. The food itself was good, and I wouldnt mind going back here. Price wise its not bad, but not cheap.
Generally good food and service with the ocassional disappointment. Have dined in and have ordered for delivery and tend to be more satisfied with the portions via delivery. With a simple layout it makes for a good hang out spot..meet old friends and make new ones. The drinks are awesome...one must try the jalapeno infused tequila!!!!
El Patron definitely hits the spot for me when it comes to fresh tasting and filling food. Ive had numerous burritos and Ive loved them all (Cant go wrong with the el patron burrito or mole fiesta burrito). Ive also gone for the half chicken which hit the spot. However, the thing that sticks with me time after time is how much I love their chips, be it paired with salsa or guacamole. I pretty much always have to get a chip order when I get food from here.I dont go out to each much, but when I do, I like to go around my own neighborhood. El Patron is a place that I not only love to go to, but it is also a place that I love to order delivery from maybe once a month. When I go in, Its usually to add a tasty margarita to the experience. Service has been excellent every time Ive been there, and the look and feel of the place coupled with the nice people that run the place dont make me feel like Im stepping into a pretentious and artificial establishment. For that reason, El Patron is at the top of places I like to go to in the neighborhood.
The place seems authentic down to the staff but this food is not even close to good Tex Mex food. Bland and basic. Service is barely acceptable. Everything took too long , I asked for ice 3 times to 3 different people and it took the 4 time for me to finally get it. All of this would have been forgiven if the food was good. It wasnt. A waste of my money. Good luck eating here.
I went there yesterday, and was disgusted!I was there 3 days ago with a friend and experienced GREAT SERVICE. I came back yesterday with some more friends and was baffled by the service GM Bravo provided. I sat down with my group of friends, after being told that there was a self serve seating, (and also being that I was there 2 days ago, I was told the same thing and there was no issue.) So being that there was a group before us, I asked the group prior once theyre finished, being that I have a large group with me, whenever theyre done that I would like the table and that there was no rush. My group and I ordered our food afterwards and about 30/45 mins they tell us that theyre about to leave. So my group and I went to sit down in that spot. We were then approached by an employee & he told us that he had a group waiting for the table. In which I then explained to him that I ASKED an employee prior to us even ordering, what was the seating order for outside. And also explained how we were there prior to that group even coming. He brought back another employee who then proceeded to tell me the same thing. I explained to him the same thing as well and also mentioned how when I was there 2 days prior with a friend the same thing was said to me (It was self serve) and he himself helped serviced me. After the back and forth, I tried to end the argument because it shouldnt have even escalated into an argument! He then walked a few steps away and stared at us & returned and asked one of the people out of my group What did you say?. Now PROVOKING US! I had people out of the group literally beg for him to leave and beg and explain that we didnt want any problems. But why should we beg for no problems? Why are we asking you to leave us alone?!? I then asked him where his general manager is & He said that his name is Bravo and that he himself is the general manager. So to be treated like this, especially after I was there days prior and being that we were not even in the wrong for the situation was just disgusting. Definitely not returning and I can recommend FAR better Mexican restaurants in the area with better food and better service in the surrounding area! If I could give 0 stars I would.
I use to love this place food is so great but it’s been 3 times consecutively I’ve been here and it’s just terrible service with the girls! I hate to give bad reviews but I think staff needs little bit more friendly.I’m a waitress myself and being rude is definitely not going to get you any tip !!
Great drinks. Great bartender. Nasty food. Ive never been to a mexican restaurant where the food was unseasoned. I had a griled chicken salad and was annoyed by how tasteless it was. My husband had what i think is called a chicken platter and it was not good at all.is this not a mexican restaurant? So unfortunate.
This restaraunt was selected due to its proximity to a stoop sale that my family and I attended earlier in the afternoon and their flexible hours. We ordered nachos, chips and guacamole, and a vegan burrito. Every dish was mediocre (vegan burrito tasted the best); however, the guacamole was not fresh and had a undescribable aftertaste. I would recommend not to purchase the chips and guacamole because the chips are not bottomless and placed in a small red basket for 10 dollars. On the other hand, the drinks were good but slightly overpriced. Customer service was horrific and our server lacked interpersonal skills and amicability. This place is a a subpar Mexican restaurant that should only be used as a one drink stop to the next destination.
I ate here when it first opened and I wasnt impressed so I didnt go back for many months. Today I tried take-out. I ordered in person, a burrito, No cheese, no dairy. The young woman at the counter said So, vegan? I said yes. I get all the way home with my burrito, take a bite and think to myself This is delicious! Why was it delicious? Because cheese is delicious and it had cheese in it. Why dont I eat cheese? Because it literally makes me sick. I call to ask for a replacement, I walk all the way back to pick it up. I tell the young woman I ordered from that she needs to take food allergies seriously and that Im going to feel sick for the rest of the day, the response was Oh, sorry. Heres a clue about customer service: when your customer has an experience that bad, you offer them something for free so that they leave happy. They couldve offered to deliver my replacement instead of making me walk back, they couldve given me some chips and guac, or they could have just pretended to care.
The pulled pork taco was amazing, I will go back for tacos! Lunch tacos, drunk tacos, midmorning snack tacos! However, avoid the margaritas.. I love a good margarita to wrap up the work day. But I highly questioned if booze was present when all I tasted was sour mix and lime.
I like the frozen margaritas however the service is terrible!First off I was eating wth my family and the waitress immediately brought me my check I mean can I eat first !!!Second time some dude told me I was in the way with an attitude clearly if I’m standing by the bar is because I’m trying to get a drink. The staff needs some training on customer service. But th drinks are good I wouldn’t go back.
Love coming to this Taqueria. Been coming here since they opened the business and had very little customer base. In such a short time theyve done well for themselves. Foods amazing and the staff are kind and attentive. Brooklyn could use more taquerias like this. Way better than Chipotle, I absolutely love coming here. Just wish they had BYOB like when they first opened.
Went in for lunch after going to the Brooklyn Botanical Gardens with my 3 year old. No one else was there but the waiter made it feel like he would rather we weren’t there. He didn’t really offer any suggestions when my kid asked for juice and they didn’t have any. I finally had to ask about the horchata to get any. Food was ok. Kind of a mediocre place that doesn’t seem to like to have kids visit.
Called in to make a delivery order at about 9PM. I could tell from the noise in the background that the restaurant was busy but the lady who answered the phone was patient and courteous. I received my meal within 15 minutes. It was delicious. I recommend this place 100%.
First of all the restaurant is a good spot to eat and get your drink on me and my fiance have been coming here for a minute but we recently stopped so we came by hopping to see an old friend however our friend wasnt here, however back to you guys,a Latino guy came up to serve us for one he didnt identify herself by giving his name,my lady gave him her order, boy o boy when it came to mine it was like hell on wheels I order the burrito with everything except guacamole, sour cream, yogurt, thats all the gentleman kept talking about extra $$ am like sir there shouldnt be extra $$ if am taking of some of the stuff that comes with the burrito,he still brought me a plate with everything except the wrap which holds the beans, lettuce and everything else,😡😡yes I was mad as hell cause we both explained to him what we wanted, apparently he needs to be trained more when it comes to waiter services,so I give him a 2 🌟 for his poor service and yes no tip which I always tip well
Very cozy but spacious place with a fire going on the cold night I was there. Service was good. Quesadilla, nachos and house made habanero sauce and flan were all excellent. Prices were reasonable and portions generous without going over the top. Really glad I stumbled upon this place.
Excellent mixed drinks (frozen margarita), taquitos appetizer, and guacamole. The Patrón burrito was disappointing. The salsa roja on top of the burrito was a bit too acidic and was a distraction from the flavor of the rest of the burrito. I’d either hold the sauce or order a different burrito.
While with a not so awesome guy, we went here to eat. This was about 5-6 years ago. I remember loving the food (burrito) and the drinks. Ive search for this place like my life depend on it since then. Flash forward to 2017 my gf and I are driving around looking for parking and what do I see? EL PATRON. I felt like a kid at christmas!! We walked in had the el patron burrito which I would recommend to anyone. Its a party in your mouth (if youre into that kind of thing) the margaritas are flavored and I would recommend them all. I will definitely go back and take more pics. Enjoy :)
Went here with my family to eat and waited for a hostess to seat us for 20mins. He just kept walking by us as tho we were invisible. It wasn’t until I gave up n told my fiancé let’s leave that I no longer wanted to spend my money here n was heading towards the door.... all of a sudden we weren’t invisible anymore n was offered a seat that was available from the time we walked in.
The number of racial micro-aggressions in this place are out of control. The decor is tacky, looks like dollar store decorations for a racist frat party.Think cactus-wearing sombreros, drinko-de-mayo signs, & depictions of “Mexicans” taking a “siesta”.It’s dark & smells dirty in there.
Horrible service I ordered at the tabel and waited about 40 minutes once i inquired about my order they told me it never printed in the kitchen so i was waiting for nothing after i told them i cnt wait any longer they still tried to charge me for the entire meal. I was not happy with this service.

2022-04-03The place is cozy and decor attractive. The food was decent, meat excellent, portions gigantic but somehow it didn’t quite work for us.Bloody Mary was straight horrible. When it first came out it was so salty that if most likely contained a weekly amount of recommend dose of sodium. It soon turned out it was to mask the lack of alcohol in the cocktail. Our server was kind enough to bring us complimentary shots but we made a mistake of mixing those into the drinks instead of downing them straight up.It didn’t go well. Now we had super salty drinks. Service was polite and efficient.Perhaps we just didn’t make the right choices.Horchata was delicious!

2022-05-01Great place near Brooklyn Botanic garden. Service was fast and super friendly. Love the carnitas tacos. Fresh, flavorful and the meat was very juicy. Bloody Mary was great too. Had a great Saturday lunch here!

2022-06-28The service was great but the food was ehhhh I got the three tacos the meat was good but wouldn’t order it again. My friend got the burrito bowl which was way better. Came with salsa and chips. Prices in my opinion were kind of expensive 6 dollars for rice and beans imo is so expensive for the amount they give.

2021-06-14This place is close to home and it’s the perfect place to go for lunch or dinner. The settling makes you feel like you’re in a different place. The staff were attentive and pleasant :)The food came out quickly; fresh well done and seasoned to perfection. My shrimp hard shell tacos were yummy! They have dine-in and take-out options. When visiting the Flatbush/ Prospect Park area, GO HERE!

2022-01-12Randomly came here and I’m very happy I did! Everything tasted amazing— very flavorful and hot! We had the Taco Tuesday special (3 soft shell tacos and a margarita) and then we ordered a grilled chicken burrito (to share) because we wanted more food! Will definitely be returning! (Forgot to take pics before we started eating)

2022-04-17Honestly I’m super surprised service here is normally pretty good. Today it was horrible, after a 15 minute wait we had to flag someone down to ask to place our order. Once our meal was brought out we had to flag down the single waiter in the whole location for water then we had to flag them down for glasses… honestly no one was interested in making us feel welcomed to the restaurant or made to feel as value guest. We wanted to get an additional item and tried to flag down the waiter for 15 minutes and he strictly stayed in the section that had bigger party size and ignored us. I even asked one of the employees passing by if we were in a section with pop out a waiter and they said no he’s taking care of tables we’re he’s going to get a bigger tip. I was really surprise as the service most of the time is pretty decent. After this epic fail I definitely won’t be back. I don’t know how they plan on staying in business if they alienate loyal customers. The food is cheap Mexican food nothing fancy nothing special but the bad service will definitely be remembered.

2022-06-02Living in the area for years I used like coming here, but honestly slowly but surely the SERVICE SUCKSSSS!!! .I always get that one dry waiter not personable, not friendly. Last time I went it was the last straw. Girl at the register ALWAYS has an attitude. Food is good but depends what you get. Im okay with grabbing authentic Mexican food 2 blocks up from here.

2020-10-19On Chilly Monday night, I decided Mexican food was a good idea. I wasn’t impressed with El Patron. Will I come back? No. Service was fast. Food came out quickly. So what was the problem? The food is a little bland for my taste. The reason the place got 4 stars from me was quick, friendly service, and large portions of food. Moving from the south I’m just use to a little more flavor. This place in my opinion is great for maybe a date night or hanging with friends. It’s usually packed on a Friday and Saturday night so you have try it for yourself. Obviously, this place is still here for a reason. Don’t let my southern snobbery detour you from checking this place out.***so changing my review rating***I just got home it is 7:22 PM I threw-up!

2022-06-15Great place for pricey mexican food. Keeping this real, this establishment has a cozy side, with plush seatings, and a small bar area, along with a second side, via a small doorway to its connecting store front for a take out area. The take out area also has dine in tables. Food is okay.

2022-06-26Just nasty, I order the two taco combo. Got a beef taco, and Im not sure if it was beef. Its the nasty taco I tasted. I havent eaten Taco Bell in a long time but I think its better.
