El Rey what can I say about this spot… First of all I have been eating here for over 15yrs. 15yrs of consistent service, flavorful dishes and outstanding hospitality from everyone… Pedro is the truth. Always comes over to your table and shakes your hand as welcomes you with open arms. I have had a few hiccups over the years and Pedro has made it right all the time. On one occasion he wanted to comp my entire bill and I wouldn’t have it. Being a hospitality professional managing many different brands, I appreciate when you go above and beyond. But that doesn’t mean I get over. Thank you for always having the Casa open for business at whatever time we walk in… Solid 5⭐️.
Really enjoy is restaurant in general but their octopus and shrimp salads are to die for. One of the very best Ive ever had the pleasure of eating. There lunch specials are good deals as well. Everytime Im around this neighborhood, I make sure to make stop to pick up food to take back home. Today we are eating dinner out. Ive been coming here for way over 25+ years now.Food here is very good. Prices have gone up significant more but thats normal with time. Plus youre getting what you paid for and thats some good food. Staff for the most part is friendly. This place at times can get packed with people eating, even more on special occasions like Mothers Day, Easter, ect. Still in all, I would highly recommend this business to anyone.
Had the rotisserie chicken, white rice and beans. Fried green bananas on the side. Was delicious. Sangria was very good also! FYI, They have outdoor seating. Covid restrictions for eating inside for the unvaccinated. It would be nice if they could put a speaker outside for the outdoor seated patrons. They always have great music!
I recently order from this restaurant and first the people who answered the call was rude ! And they hang up on me two before I could get my correct order in ! Then they delivered the wrong order and when I call to tell them they said they couldn’t do anything!I order monfongo and they give me NO sauce and everything separate ! ! I spend my good hard money to order food and they treated me and my business like garbage ! I will never order from this restaurant again I give 1 star but they deserve -00 stars
I ordered chicharron de pollo and rice and honestly I must say it is the WORST I have ever tasted. You guys put toooooooooo much salt in the chicken that is not edible. And then I paid $21 called them and they sent rotisserie chicken which isn’t seasoned and I know cost way less than $21 smh but it’s ok I wouldn’t order from there again. You cannot be putting so much salt in the chicken and then say it’s seasoned smh salt isn’t seasoning!!!! Tasteless
El Rey ll is the local restaurant/ bar were locals go to dine on tastie Dominican, Puerto Rican American cuisine. Its that place where your the tourist and desire to taste what the locals eat. What makes this place good is the fact that theyve been established for over 30 years and they have expanded and remodeled the restaurant twice in that time. Meaning that the business is great.
I’ve been eating from this restaurant for more than 10 years. The food was always excellent, service was great..everything was very good. I loved it. Suddenly out of no where, it started falling apart. I don’t know what’s going on with this place but I’ve been SUPER DISAPPOINTED. I’m not sure if this has to do with the pandemic, or if there’s a new chef or the new staff. To start off, when I order for deliveries, food is missing or only part of the order comes. Also they take a long time to get here. This is the 3rd time it has happened to me and I’ve had enough of it. I’ve had to call 2x for them to bring me the rest of my order and when I did the second time, the lady just said to start eating because our food was going to get cold and she would give us free tostones next time we ordered and didn’t send what I was missing. I really love churrasco, so I know the taste but lately when I’ve ordered it, it is not churrasco, it’s a different taste and it looks like churrasco, but it’s not. It’s a different meat. I’m not sure if they want to save money, but I felt robbed of my money. You know when it’s churrasco if you eat it a lot, you can’t be fooled. Last thing is that the chicharrón de pollo has been very very salty. We were not able to eat it. I feel so horrible to see restaurants like this, that have been doing well for so long start going downhill whether it’s with management, the cooks, new employees...I’m not even sure what’s going on. Especially being that there are very few restaurants around this area that are very good.
If you grew up in this neighborhood in the 80s and 90s you know about crackhead lines. Well fast forward 20 years later, now the crack is here. The food is amazing you will be lining up for more. Every dish is excellent and addictive and the price is right. No 2 for 5s here but a plate of chicharon von tostones us 10 bucks cant beat that with a bat.
Food was really great, not as good as it was when I ate there before perhaps. However, really great. Not the most sanitary place, the waitress was also dishing out food without gloves or so but the restroom was decent. Also, not the quickest service. However, she was very helpful in packing away my takeaway and nice. Nonetheless, its a neighbourhood spot that has great food.
Ordered a catering order for our repast and the food did not disappoint. Everyone enjoyed everything. The Arroz con Gandules was so good. The Pernil and the Pollo al horno was so delicious and the Empanadas were gone so fast and enjoyed so much. Everything was hot and delicious! Will definitely order here again soon.
The food is superb. The restaurant is clean. The people are friendly (they are also good-looking). The prices are reasonable and the food is freshly cooked and well-seasoned. Also, the food is not Dominican-American. It is authentic Dominican food. It offers dining out and plays Dominican music. For me it is wonderful.
I’ve gone here about 4 times now but I’ve only eaten inside once ever. I think the food is good, it’s honestly close to what I’d expect from almost Dominican neighborhood spots that do take outs. The one time I sat down I have to admit I was more aware that the customer service isn’t the best, but if I get my food done right I don’t mind that too much.Personally I’d recommend this for take out since it’s great to call in, pick it up and enjoy it somewhere else.
The place is decent. The food is good. Its true about the mix up just check your food before you leave. The owner should hire more bilingual waitresses. There is a wait but order over the phone then pick up so it wouldnt be a hassle or stick with the delivery guy. I like their food even my coworkers.
Sat quickly! food was in very big portions.. ordered a dish that I didnt expect.. and the waitress asked exactly what I wanted and returned with the dish I wanted. I had lunch twice and the service was great. The food is Dominican style Spanish and they offer some American style sandwiches with a Dominican flavor. Very good service very good ambiance!!
This was my first time at this restaurant. I placedan order to go. The food was excellent. The gentleman that plated the food was also excellent and professional. Sad to say the young lady that rang me up lack good courtesy and manners and had no eye contact. I worked in the food business for 43 years and the last person left a bad taste. Under normal circumstances I would not return but I realize that maybe she was under stress. Management needs to address this matter. Otherwise the was excellent and I plan to return.
Dont bother coming here. When I order a whole rotisserie chicken I expect for it to be fresh not old from like 1 to 2 days old. A waste of $ 11. This restaurant is close to my house, but wont be going there no more. Will be searching for an restaurant that gives fresh rotisserie chicken, not old chicken.
I ordered for delivery arroz con gandulez with pernil and sweet plantains! Also a flan . After receiving my order two hours later , The rice tasted old , really hard , there was only one piece of meat , the rest was all skin and the flan tasted old and hard on the bottom. It did not taste good at all. Had no flavor!!! The only good thing was the sweet plantains!!! So if you’re thinking about ordering here , don’t !!!! Is better to go in person so that you can complain and get your money back!!!
The place to go for authentic Hispanic cuisine in Brooklyn on Citi-line off Crescent St. It is so good, so be prepared for a short wait for your order to go or sit and enjoy the atmosphere which is what we do.NOTE: This is not a fast food joint, your food is prepared fresh and is great portion size. I almost always have to get doggy bag. And it is still great the next day or two. Enjoy
Ordering takeout from here is always great. The food is yummy and theyre generally fast. However eating in house was a different story. The waitress wasnt very attentive and it was a bit confusing ordering the food. You werent sure what you were going to get. We ordered in Spanish but for the Dominican breakfast option it was confusing how to get the type of meat we wanted. They have many options and the waitress didnt make it very clear. However when the food came out it was all super delicious. They were also very accommodating when we had a larger group of people.
The food is authentic and the feel of the restaurant is homey. This restaurant is the only Latin restaurant in the area that I tried thus far that makes grits properly. No runny, watery grits HERE!!!! Both breakfast and dinner meals taste good, well seasoned and fresh!
I have givin this place more than one time to reedem themselves an they still mess up .i call cuz i have an issue an they take it personal i just simply want a solution .one piece of bacon cut into 3 pieces is still one piece of bacon an that was juat one sandwich i dont even want to start with the othwr xays they mess up ...........i will be coming in to speak to pedro....
The only good thing I can say about this place is that it is clean. We sat and waited 30 mins for menus and water. We waited over an hour for basic food (lemon chicken and tostones, stewed chicken and white rice, and chicken tenders and fries for the kids)Our food was room temperature when it arrived and the lemon chicken tasted like it had sugar in it. Service was terrible, when asking anyone for anything they would press their ear pieces and make a hand gesture saying they were busy listening to orders over their headsets and couldnt help. Such a bad experience and food was terrible. Very disappointed.
Food is great. I probably would have rated this restaurant higher but my experience was conflicted with the service.Granted I ordered take out and decided to pick a booth to watch the game that night. So the gave us plates when we asked so we arent eating out of a metal tin.The food is good. I would have tipped the waitresses if they checked on me from time to time. But again, they didnt seat me and there busy tending table that they were already working. Nice location, its always packed.
Food was ok, Ive had better. I has the Codfish stew with yellow rice and Maduro (fried green bananas) the stew had this bitter taste, the rice was stuck together and the fried bananas where two different colors...and we waiting long to be served!! My sons treat for lunch...he meant well...but this place needs an upgrade, and it was quite busy. Maybe I ordered the wrong thing!!!
Food was great. The waitress was not having a great day: We asked for more bread, its delicious, never came. We asked for cocktails, we were told that they had to find the liquor. We asked for sep checks bc I had to leave early, we got them, the cashier was never told.
Service was terrible, the waitress brought me a drink i did not ask for also i ordered a cheese burger deluxe the bun was 3 times the size of the burger, the burger was sooooo burnt i could not eat it. If you cant speak Spanish i insist that you do not go there you will be the last to be served.
If I can give this place a 0 I would. Food was absolutely disgusting. Food looks nothing like how it is pictured on the menu. I ordered the mofongo and my husband ordered a cheese burger with French fries and the chicken mofongo was as hard as a brick and tasted like fish and my husband did not enjoy his food either. Everything was stale. Very poor quality in food. I was mislead by the reviews on this restaurant and I will never eat here again. DONT WASTE YOUR MONEY !
The pork sandwich I got today was dry, which was surprising. Ive never had any bad experiences there. That is until today after waiting to order, which the last time I tried to order at the counter I was told to order where the food is, this time she said I had to order at the counter. And then I got poor quality food.. 😞😞😞 I think Ill order from Caribbean restaurant on Stanley Ave for a long while...
Food is great, However their customer service sucks. They need to work on their customer service skills and how to have eye contact when speaking. You go in the restaurant to place your order sometimes they dont acknowledge your presence or they totally ignore you when your talking. If they would like to keep customers flowing from all cultures they need to hire staff that knows how to greet all customers, and not look like they rather not be there.
The food is really delicious. Their Sancocho was prepared with a lot of time and love.We asked for the T-bone to be cooked medium rare, the waitress even confirmed jokingly that it would be bloody, and I responded with a YESSS... All of that and they still brought us a well done and tough steak. The shrimps were cooked perfectly though. My cheese and pork Mofongo was very tasty, it had the crunchy pieces of pork skin and the meat sauce they give you to drizzle on top of the Mofongo is amazing. The mini Mofongos were just okay to me, my girlfriend liked it a lot but it was just too much sauce for my taste. We also took 2 Flans to go and they were to die for, my girlfriend wanted to go on another 40 minute round trip to the restaurant for another slice it was that good.I did my research on yelp and read people were automatically charged some undisclosed fees so I already knew it was coming. They automatically charge a service fee and included Gratuity. This is deceiving because when they bring you the final bill they have a TIP option which shouldnt be there if you are automatically charging gratuity. They also charge a fee for paying with a credit/debit card. There is no charge for cash payments. Honestly the food was good, the service was great
Good food their octopus salad is delicious however when you order for delivery they send a small salad with 4 pieces of octopus and lots of onions na and peppers and they charge $8 is a ripOff honestly. Over all the food is good but don’t like it when they want to over charge for something that barely has octopus in it
I was charged twice on my credit card. plus all of sudden they charge gratuity to your bill. mind you it was only me n my husband and my two sons who shared a plate which the bill came out to 50 plus 20 dollar for gratuity .. which some how came out to 85 dollars. this restaurant is over rated and they lost the touch of good food. i cant believe i spent this much on SPANISH FOOD. SINCE WHEN SPANISH FOOD COST SO MUCH. I WILL NEVER RETURN.
If I could give this place no stars I would. Ordered from them for delivery. They told me an hour food never showed up called and asked them what happened and told me the driver was leaving now That they were short handed. I had to repeat my order because she didn’t know what I ordered. 2 hours later NO FOOD!!! Call them they tell me the guy is a few min a way. Still no food call back 15 minutes later and they have an excuse why the food isn’t being delivered. Spoke to the manager and he didn’t even seem to care or work out anything to keep me as a customer. Will never order from this place again!!! HORRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE!!!
I’ve eaten at this restaurant many times. My last visit, the waitress was no where to be found. When she did surface, she took 1 order; went to tend to another table and returned 10 mins later to complete the order.30 mins later we got our meal (it’s not like they cooked the meal to order, it’s already made)The waitress was inattentive and absent. Worse experience for a place where the food is that good!!.
Beautiful beautiful operation very courteous beautiful people one day I was a There something I left $50 when home and came back and a young man gave me my money think thats what Mr. El Rey You cant Beat Good people in honesty what a beautiful place You should go there and try it sometime the food is delicious
The service was ok... the first server wasnt paying attention to our order and kept walking away while we were ordering, apparently she hungry cuz she left us to go sit and eat a nice hearty plate mean while we didnt even get our bread and butter. the next girl was very attentive and on point, food was good, beers nice and cold. we ordered bistec encebollado w rice n beans tostones and a pechuga a la parilla w mofongo. came w a little salad which was a plus
Went there for the 1st time 2 weeks ago. This place had pretty good ratings so decided to try it. I ordered food to go from the pre made selection area spagetti with roast chicken, papaya milk shake, and potatoe salad. The food and milkshake were fine but received old potatoe salad. Once i got home and opened it i smelled the oldness of it. I turned around and went back and returned it. They gave me my money back. How do you not check the food before serving it to people?
This restaurant makes great food the Man in charge is alway walking around going from table to table to see how is everything..but there is just one thing, the waitresses are not so polite they dont smile or help with questions about the restaurant. Specially the fat waitress with a ponytail on the Am schedule she never ever smile and she bearly speaks but when a good looking guy walks in she literally melts on top of them, becomes a jitterbox. Get her out of there, her pitbull face dont let me enjoy my meal.
4 stars for the good food I didnt give 5 stars because the customer service is horrible ! At first I thought it was a racist thing that they cater to they kind and not blacks but its more of a cater to men and not womens thing. The waiters dont check on you to see if you are okay but they will run to a table full of men 5-10 times and wouldnt event look my way Its like a fashion statement tho they wear all black they wear these tight pants to show off the butt and curves like are we selling food or a freak show!
Placed an over the phone order for delivery. Took over an hr to arrive . I ordered fried pork skin and they sent me baked pork pieces . All the skin and fat was super soft . Not crispy like its suposed to be . The chicken i ordered well done was pink and tastless . No seasoning . This place used to cook so good . You would always leave happy . Not anymore .
Normally I love this place when I visit NY, but this time the service was bad, They tried to serve us burned peas and rice and anyone who knows rice, knows the smell lingers in the rice and is terrible.. when we complained the server acted as if we were bothering her. It was a huge disappointment.
Just order the fried chicken chunks with rice beans & potato salade it was all over cook. the chicken was pink inside & the outside was dark Brown , which means they didnt cook it the right way the rice was hard & over cook. The delivery guy didnt even come upstairs because of the bike if I wanted to go down my stairs I would have went to the restaurant myself . Im extremely disappointed& Im waiting for a refund right now.
Great food & drinks. Majority of the staff is non english speaking, which is so frustrating at times. I rated 2 stars because I shouldnt have to go thru a song & a dance and a few staff members and maybe a customer or 3 before the waitress can decipher what it is I want. I do not walk with with a personal translator by my side at all times. But you will need one here.
The food is good. However, prices are ridiculously high and service is horrible. In one sitting we had three waitresses and we waited over an hour for food. Its for horrible. There are many other places where you can get just as good food, faster, and at much more reasonable prices.
I placed a order tonight and it was Terrible!!. i cant believe of all the times Ive order from this place. smdh.My food showed up late and cold and Not well done at all!!!. i asked the the lady over the phone kindly for a salad before i finishing placing my order. all i got was dressing. i called and was put on hold. they hung up, i called again and asked for the manager and nobody came. 👎👎👎
I come often to pick up usually and it is always good. only reason for 3 stars was because 2 out of the 2 times i called to place a phone order i get there to pick up only find out that it wasnt made and to top it off my order ticket was no where to be found. other than that the food is good just dont call it in.
The treat me like I am not a valued customer whether I order take out or dine in. Last time, my husband and I left because they served every Hispanic family that sat down after is before us. It was so rude. They will make plates for customers on line after me at the take out counter just because they look or speak Spanish. I have been disrespected there more than once. I will never go there again.
I ordered from El Ray and as usual they messed up my order but this time I place the order and waited for almost 2 hours and never received any food. I Called and they said “we had send it out it should be on it was” .wait some more So I go there to the restaurant to see if my food was sent out as they didn’t have anything that I asked for instead of calling me and telling me. Trust me I can go on for days but I wish there was more spots in the area .
If you want good hispanic food that is fresh & tasty, El Rey II is a great choice. The selection is big--there is something for everyone. When I dont want meat, I like the avocado salad. It is HUGE & is a good for sharing or for yummy leftovers. The only downside of this restaurant I can think of is that this place can be noisy because its so busy. On the otherhand, its so busy because the food is so good.
I went for breakfast and the girl was trying to steal a dollar off me, instead of just asking if I would like to leave a tip even though I wasnt eating in. She went to charge me a dollar for a $5.00 and tell me its tax, I said what, So I changed my mind and asked the cooked I also wanted ham how much more he said 5.75, I said ok. She was charging me $7.00. I said he said 5.75 and It said it in the menu, then she came out and said its for the ham. I just looked at her. I didnt appreciate her trying to get over, I just wanted to pay the 5.75 plus tax. Which came out to $6.35 with tax, And she still added the dollar, I of course asked for my dollar cause the tx was .60. She ran out of excuses. But she still wanted my 40 cents, I said no. I would of given her the tip if she would of not given me all this stupidity for a dollar.Other than that the food there is good. Just b careful when getting charged they dont overcharge you.
I been coming here to this same location since the 90’s before it was even called El Rey and it was called Santo Domingo. From then until now it’s been a model of consistency and over time with the upgrades and menu innovations it’s the best Dominican restaurant in Brooklyn!
Dear Rey II,My daughters ate at your restaurant. They told me your food is good and that I should order food for my other daughter’s baby shower. Roasted chicken, empanadas, pernil, and maduros. Well Thank you, everyone at the baby shower loved your food. I’m Puerto Rican and I usually do all the cooking but when my girls told me about your restaurant, I catered with you. I personally thank you for all the delicious food. I told people about how good the food is. Thank you everyone who made this happen. I will definitely order again. May God bless your business.Yvette
I came here twice. The first time I had a pechuga al limon. The chicken wasn’t cooked well, it was really squishy and kind of hard to bite into. I decided to give it another chance and ordered something simple, half a roasted chicken with yellow rice & beans. Everything was reheated. EVERYTHING. The rice was hard, chicken was dry & cold. Beans were hard & looked like they were in the fridge for 2 days. I’m from queens, came all the way to Brooklyn to eat at this place & have been disappointed both times. Guys, save your money & go somewhere else. There are definitely a lot much more better places to eat than this place.
The food is typically good, service not too good but today topped it all! I live in the neighborhood so I come to this restaurant often (most times pick up/delivery because again the food is decent but service sucks). Today I went to eat in with some friends and when the check came I noticed they charged me $1.50 for extra gravy. So I asked the waiter what it was for and she tell me its because I asked for steak sauce. Hmm. well I ordered steak, why wouldnt I ask for it! She tells me they charge for it. (Since when idk) so of course I ask to speak with the manager. He comes over already on the defensive side. He tells me steak sauce is expensive, he pays $14 for it so its not free when you order steak and I have to pay for it because I asked for it and it doesnt come with my steak meal. 1. It doesnt say on the menu anyway I have to pay for steak sauce. 2. When I asked the waiter didnt tell me of the extra charge. 3. Its the principle, Im just not paying for steak sauce if I ordered steak; thats like paying for Ketchup for French fries! No sir! He told me he has 3 restaurants and has always charged for it in every one! Lie. The manager then told me to give him my card back so he can charge me! NO! I didnt pay until I seen it was removed but of course he had smart comments like now you know and you will pay next time! Lol sir there will be no next time! Service here sucks and they will try to slip charges on your bill as gravy and they cater to MEN and Spanish.
Ordered the skirt steak (churrasco) and it was awful!!!! Very tough and not at all tasty!! Almost choked trying to swallow that hard piece I did eat! The rice, beans and tostones were ok but will never order the skirt steak again! Quite expensive and not worth the price at all!!
I love El Rey, and have been going here for years. Expect a slight language barrier, but friendly service. Expect long lines, even at odd times, and expect seeing a large range of local guests plus a bunch of New Yorks Finest. My go-to is the pernil with yellow rice and beans with extra pickled onions. Mangu is another great meal here, but only available for breakfast. The Sancocho is always delicious, and a small portion is definitely enough for two.
THIS IS VERY GOOD ! GOOD ATMOSPHERE ! GREAT STAFF ! VERY DELICIOUS FOOD ! A MUST TO TRY THE SALMON FISH MY FAVORITE , I DEFINITELY AGREE WITH EVERYONE ELSES COMMENTS THAT THIS PLACE CAN GET VERY PACKED ! SPECIALLY ON THE WEEKENDS, BUT I BEEN COMING TO THIS PLACE FOR A WHILE AND ITS WORTH THE WAIT.
Today experience at El Rey was disappointed, first my order was placed wrong because the waitress wasnt giving me her full attention, talking across tables and taking my order at the same time....Second when the order finally arrived, it was not medium well...she brings me a Karrueche style steak rare....not the t-bone medium well that I order from the beginning....my baked patato was under-cook plus my service of bread was late to the table... On top of all the one short waitress had an attitude, seem both that attended to my table did.....Im a frequently customer at this El Rey restaurant at Hemlock and LIBERTY but today was the worst service of all.....Hopefully this will change soon...
A regular Saturdays morning Brooklyn. I want to have dominican breakfast. So I pick El Rey Restaurant due to seen to be a nice place to eat. So I stop in this spanish restaurant with a bigger smile and good vibes.I ignored reviews about this place. So hoping have a good experience.. Ok...15 minutes waiting for waitress. Then she comes and Drops four menus in my table/ No Good morning/nothing /Rude /Not friendly/ only one individual in the table. I think Rey restaurant need to work in its custumer service still.....This is my personal opinion...Food was Good!
Iam from pensylvania and love my. Puerto Rican Dominican mexican and all foods.I gave it a two star ......cause..... I can eat in el rey they measure their rice the portions are small and I left hungry.but the food was delicious.Iam a straight up guy.p.a and boston has p.r.and.d.r.restaurants that would blow your mind in servings.not a bad review but an honestly good one.the sea food salad was lots of lettuce onion and a deco of sea food dont take my word if you wanna go its your money and your experience.well the service and food its good taste but the servings are poor.this was my personal expirience at this restaurant........

2022-07-07Food was excellent the servers were wonderful. When Bill arrived I was charged tax, service charge, 15 or 18 % gratuity then there was a charge if you used a credit card. I have never seen a different price for using a credit card while dining in a restaurant.

2022-05-21It’s been months now that I keep ordering food from here and #1- let’s start by saying the people who answers never pay attention. They can’t say they don’t understand because I’m calling in the native language. #2- consequences of not paying attention, then my order gets delivered wrong. #3- when you call to complain and speak to the manager, they keep you on a hold and then hang up. I could go on and on. Lastly, the quality of food has decreased tremendously. Will stop ordering from here.Make sure you check your order before the delivery guys leave, although he won’t be able to much of assistance anyways!

2022-02-22They cook good but the surrounding public and customers are too ghetto for me. You dont feel comfortable thinking someone is going to rip you off.The whole city line area is so filthy dirty and the store owners wont clean sweep or have concerns. They should be ticketed.
