Enjoyed an afternoon into evening special event with family and friends at the Pavilion Lodge 👍 The area is beautiful because its in Ellison Park and the lodge itself absolutely Gorgeous and Rustic. The knotty pine walls, just loved and would love to have it in my kitchen and dining room !! Theres lots to do at Ellison Park including an enclosed dog park, one for small and one for larger pups but you do have to register I believe to use it, you know safety reasons. Many walking trails plus there are at least two entry points that I know of so get out there and enjoy. Oh and if you like sledding they have that too ...
Definitely was not what I was expecting when I showed up. driving up to the place it looked absolutely amazing It didnt look like a lodge at all. inside was nice and spacious had two bathrooms and everything was so clean,a great place. Also such a good place to go kayaking! You can basically enter the creek from anywhere
Nice park.. plenty of trails for hiking & biking. Pavilions to rent, might have shelters for first come first serve but not really sure. You can fish at the park in the creek that flows through it. Does have a tendency to flood with winter thaws and heavy rains.. sits low. All around great park though, worth a walk around.
This park is huge! There are so many pavilions and charcoal grills for food! They have a dog park and a bunch of fields to run and play and playgrounds too. Its along a lake which has a lot of openings to the water so you can get some beautiful pictures of nature at its finest. I will be returning here a lot so i can explore the whole park 😊
A nice little gem in the city. Public disc golf course and tennis and pickleball courts. There is also at least one playground and several lodges/shelters available for reservation through Monroe county (many of the shelters are open air and available for use without reservations as well if someone else hasnt already reserved it). Nice park areas with lots of green space as well. There is also a dog park here but I believe you have to register your dog before they can go.
I love love the acres of this park and how its so beautifully spread out along with the secluded trails. I was surprised by how many trails there was to choose from along with steep high hills to climb up. My son love this park and its so peaceful out here, even if theres a lot of people. I like how its not crowded and still have some privacy to hike.
This is our go to park ... has been for decades. Good for wooded hikes with dogs, dog park, playground for kids, ice rink and huge sledding hill in winter, shelters, lodges, disk golf course, open fields and more. I even got married at the creekside lodge! My whole family loves it!!
The park is awesome as usual. It is such a fantastic glacial feature and so large with so many little offshoots that you can almost always find a private place no matter how nice the weather is. Its very beautiful the way the Irondequoit Creek winds through many turns on the way up to Irondequoit Bay and the great lake Lake Ontario. There are a number of good put-in spots for canoeing downstream northward towards the Great Lake. Theres tennis courts and multiple Pavilions and really high really unclimably steep features that you can sit right under and stare in amazement. Whats not to like?
Great sledding hills! Sunny days make it extra perfect for some good sled runs. Crowds will vary based on days of the week, time since last good snowfall, and outdoor temps. Most of the time people are courteous and respectful of space and areas for downhill vs trudging back up. The return uphill climbs can be rough on the very young and very old... Legs day regardless!
If you wanna give disc golf a try & youre around the Rochester area. This is the best place to play. Most baskets can be seen from the tee box so perfect for beginners, straight forward holes, not that technical. Some holes are quite far, enough to challenge new players. Very well kept though when my friends & I went there the fairway needs a little trimming but other than that great course to play in! 👍
One of Penfields many green gems. Great for taking a walk with friends. Good space to bring your pup. Several pavilions you can rent for a party. Awesome creek space to bring a canoe or kayak... A lot of the park is in a valley so it feels like you are surrounded by wilderness (to a degree) but youre just down the hill from residential neighborhoods or Browncroft Plaza.
If your looking for great cardio and want a challenge, great place for hills. Island in middle of park that has several trails on all sides that are steep and will leave you out of breath. Literally! Make sure to bring repellent, mosquitoes are thick and hungry. Also park gets flooded easily after heavy rains. Otherwise park is relatively small and when dry is pleasant for easy walks.
Local park nestled in the Blossom Rd/North Landing Rd area. Some refer to it as the sledding hill, the dog park, or the disc golf area. All of these things are possible here, but its also just a lovely place to walk or hike. You can choose a sedate and level path or opt for several other options. Just go and explore! Also, we recently discovered a number of Geocache spots in and around the area referred to as the Indian Landing. You need a free membership on a Geocache website to be able to find them but its worth a try if youre curious and want to do something while hiking. Nearby are tennis courts and softball fields, fishing spots and picnic pavilions. Lots to offer for a day out!
Ellison Park is definitely an awesome place for a family fun. Without question this park lends itself to Great entertainment year-round from Summer picnics to Winter ice skating to cross country skiing Etc the recently-installed dog park is very impressive as well Bravo II e Monroe County Parks and Rec Department for making this a really great Local Park and Recreation Area.
I love this park. It has so many beautiful spots. A little creek you can walk alongside with long grass on the other side. It has a spot that looks like its for weddings. Its just beautiful. Ive never lived in Rochester during the winter, but I hear there is an ice skating pond here, too! I love this park very, very much.
Not much to gripe about, honestly. Its a dog park. There is plenty of room for Fido to run and play. If anything, maybe a few more benches and shade. Overall, its a nice place to take the dogs. There are trash bags for clean up and garbage cans. There is a hose outside to wash them of after (great idea).
A beautiful park, it has a very nice country and peaceful feeling. From a small picnic to a large reunion. A wedding to an aniversary party. Business functions to a retirement party. This park is and has the setting, to be perfect for many kinds of functions. A play ground, tennis courts, paths to walk, a running creek, horse back riding, very large park yards for flying kites, play a sport or just about anything. I really like it here.
Nice big park with lots of hiking trails. Horseback riding available nearby that goes through the park. Dog park available at additional cost. Must register prior with the county. Irondequoit Creek meanders through the park. Lots of hills. Great sand hill is fun to climb and slide down. Many buildings available. Many baseball fields. Frisbee golf available. Great sledding hill off Blossom Rd.
Great place for a walk or a hike. There are some surprisingly large hills and wooded areas worth checking out. I typically go for the Frisbee golf. They do a good job maintaining the course, but it can be wet at times. if you are going for Frisbee golf, avoid Tuesdays, those are league nights and it gets very crowded.
Went during the day for work.. werent may people there at all. The grass was high but was being cut. Wasnt there for very long but seems like a great park to explore with some time. There were a lot of very steep hills, so Id suggest proper foot attire and water to stay hydrated if youre going to go hiking.
My nephew rented the Pavilion Lodge. I arrived early to help with set up. The door was unlocked and I was happy to find a large, clean space that was perfect for our needs for the day. The available refrigerator and stove were clean and in working order. As were both restrooms. The fireplace would have nice, if it hadnt been an 80 degree day. The cost for the day was reasonable as compared to other sites that he looked into for this event. There was a play ground nearby, hiking trails just steps away. The only bad thing I noticed was a musty odor when I first arrived. I opened the windows and the breeze took most of it away. That is to be expected in a building that is closed up most of time.
We went to the dog park here. You need to get a yearly pass to bring your dogs, and that is about 25 dollars a dog. They have a fenced in area with a walking path that surrounds a pond to allow your dogs to run free. If you dont want to worry about the water they have an area for large and small dogs where the ground is tar.
Excellent park, Has a great dog park and hiking trails. Also really good place for a party or other gathering in a park setting. Former home of the Rochester Cyclocross races, with a nice hard route running right through the park. Theres also one of the hardest disc golf courses in the US available, and its well maintained.
Dog park review! Please check the guidelines for bringing your dog here. You have to register with the county to get the code to the gate. Once inside there are 3 sections... Small dog, large dog, and the main area that includes a pond that dogs can swim in. The dog park is fenced in, and well maintained. Dogs can run and play off leash. Bag dispensers are strategically located to help keep the area clean. Very good for socializing your dog, getting it the exercise it needs and the chance to socialize a bit with other dog owners.
Although the weather was cold, I enjoyed spending time with friends and family. My only complaint was they only unlocked 1 bathroom for the shelter, which could hold up to 120 people. Caused a couple of line ups which can be difficult especially for people with young children.
Today, I visited the dog park at Ellison Park. So this review is mainly for the dog park. Ive visited 4 dog parks in the Rochester area, and this place is my favorite. I am not giving it 5 stars because the park is frequently closed due to flooding. Although, the Monroe County website does a good job of posting park closings. The park has 3 fenced areas: small dog, large dog and walk-around. My favorite area is the walk-around. I get my exercise walking around the pond while my dogs run around leash free.
This is one giant park. My only complaint is that its a bit confusing as to where to go. Maybe the signs should be a little more clear. Maybe its just me. Its a beautiful, well-kept park with easy hiking trails, pavilions to rent for parties, a nice playground, tennis courts and more! Do yourself a favor and get yourself something nvited to a party here sometime. Or just go and hang out, enjoy the scenery and activities.
A lot of variety depending on the season. Nice hiking trails throughout to snowshoe, Cross Country ski, run/ hike; Southside near Penfield Rd access point there is the Coyote den trail which is hilly. Fishing along the creek that winds its way through the park all the way to Browncroft. Canoe, kayak, SUP, and raft through the park to eventually join Irondequoit Bay. Ball fields, playground and open areas to play whatever you want. Pavilion rentals and a separate dog park; which you need to register beforehand with Monroe County.
Wild life, especially the birds are plentiful.Large park- there is a frisbee golf course. Schyuler fort located near the course. It is padlocked.Outside view only.Heberle stable is nearby. They use one of the parks trails for riding. Dog park when you go down Blossom Road there is an entrance.Baseball diamonds and fishing on one side of the park. Across the street playground. Picnic tables, trails that one trail would lead to a sand hill. So much more available!
Gorgeous and giant park surrounding the canal.Nice little break from studying at the U of R or Strong Memorial Hospital.Picnic areas. Playgrounds. Green beyond belief. Running/biking trail that goes from downtown to Pittsford (maybe beyond, thats as far as Ive ever made it)Ive heard you cant actually swim in the canal which is a bummer as Rochester seriously lacks a body of water to swim in when it gets hot in the summer.
Great park but not what it used to be. Before I was a child one section of this park was Rochesters unofficial dog park. As anyone older than 30 about doggy beach.Well a few jerks and a very greedy county ended a decades long tradition. The sheriff offices were directed to go deep into the park and give tickets to what was usually the ONLY person in the park for having their dog off a leash...in the middle of a park...with no one around.Yes that is our county tax money at work, evidently there is no longer any crime in Rochester. After years of battling the Monroe County Parks Dept we do finally have some dog parks with by far the best one being here at Ellison it is well worth the $25 per year fee.The trails in the rest of the park are still wonderful but dog walkers need to keep their eyes open for the Sheriff dept, after all there is no other crime in Monroe County.
A nice park for having a picnic in the afternoon and they have cabins for cooking and for having parties like birthdays or graduation its a park so theres woods and grass and you can BBQ outside probably have to call ahead and reserve the Pavilions or the cabins but its a nice park in the summer lots of mosquitoes so bring the bug repellent
Herds of deer..beaver..mink. Fox. Hawks. Song birds. Shelters bbq areas. Trails. Doggie Park no leash area. Streams wildlife and nature. Cranes. Blue Herrings . Massive wing spans. Snakes that grow huge and rabbits and my dog Jake and myself saw monster turtles too big to lift crossing from the wetlands to the creek... Historic land where the British and French and America frontiersmen as well as famous politicians played out the evolution of our great country !!! The lost city of Tyron holds many secrets to this day as trade and commerce was brisk and the St. Lawrence seaway opened new opportunities with the Locks and shipping lanes growing. The great sea Salon travel by the St. L seaway to lake Ontario and up the Creek in the park systems to spawn and be caught by amazing fishing as the streams are also.stocked. so paddle up the creek or bike it too w many.trails and boyscout activities .
Jump in the creek with an inner tube and you get a solid 30 minute leisurely ride that takes you withing 50 yards of where you started in there beginning. Several drum circle and daytime dance parties held here every summer week. An amazing disc golf coarse and supplies sold around the corner at Sonnys landing deli. Miles of trails to make the most of with a creek that leads all the way out to Irondequoit Bay and lake Ontario so feel free to bring your nonmotorized water craft. Bike the paths and trails North and it connects to tryon Park which has great mtb and trail riding paths. Lots of grills and tables, childrens playground, baseball and kickball diamonds, Bridges and even cabins that can be rented for events. Hills, valleys, water all the things that make this world with being in.
Disappointing. Came looking for a nice hike, struggled to find the start of the trails, then found a pole saying one trail this way (pointing directly in the creek) and another trail right here (pointing either direction along the road, like the trail is just walking along next to the road)... Needless to say, we didnt jump in the creek nor walk on the road and went home instead.
Ok, this park is beautiful but creepy. today my camp went there and there is this fort named fort schuyler that was actually the house of serial killers, or the goblin house. the myth is, a boy named ellie got lost in camp and went there and ended up in some deep crap. so my and my fellow campers busted that door open and we almost got in some deep crap. No, im not saying that there was actually serial killers in there. but whatever it is its haunted! when about 13 of the campers were in the house. we heard banging from the upstairs when we turned the light back off and closed the door. So If you go in by yourself, get out in at least 5 seconds or youll be either defending yourself from whatever is in the house, or youll just will never be heard of again.

2022-06-07Very nice walk and vide at this park! Perfect for a family outing or even to run solo as it’s not very lengthy. The stream and tunnel at the end really adds a cherry on top to the breezy hike, and there’s lots of chipmunks, squirrels etc. to see scurrying about.

2022-01-15Great park to go sledding at! This park has a long and steep hill to be able to pick up some speed. The park is usually pretty busy so watch out for others so you dont get knocked down by a sled.

2021-12-08Youll enjoy this cute little childrens park. It even has a used book lot. I wipe off my books with sanitizer before I drop them off just to be safe.

2022-05-03My pup loves this place! Its like youre not even near the city! It truly gives you the feeling of being in the country. Whether you need a separated area for just your tiny dog or your large dog so they dont feel overwhelmed by too many four legged friends, than theres that option. If you have a sociable dog than theres the wide open area with so much enclosed room to run freely that circles around a fresh pond that they can even swim in when its warm! Youre also guaranteed to meet some very nice people. After all, we are animal lovers!

2019-10-28Whats not to love? Got to revisit Ellison after moving away a few years ago. I remember sledding down the hill as a kid and now, after working in the natural resources field in Denver, I can really appreciate the lush vegetation, meandering streams, and abundant avian life that call the park home (despite all the dogs-wow!).

2022-04-01Love being in nature. Paths for a stroll. A dog park that I have yet to test. I will next time. I wish there were more benches in certain spots to absorb nature a bit more.

2020-05-29Ive really been enjoying hikes from the south entrance on Penfield Road. Theres plenty of shade, usually a nice breeze, and if youre willing to walk up a little bit of a steep incline, some good views.
