Empire Szechuan in other cities:
I would like to make it very clear — this place deserves five stars! I have been eating this Chinese food since I was a kid, i’ve had it well over 100 times, and NEVER did I order something I did not enjoy. The owners and workers are all extremely friendly, delivery is always fast, and the food is hot and delicious. We regularly order chinese for our dinner parties, and the vegetables have even become a staple in our holiday dinners ... you cannot beat the string beans!Order, I guarantee you will LOVE it.
Expensive but you get what you pay for! My neighbors moved to NJ but still drive 45min just to get food here. I’ve had sesame chicken and wonton soup from all around the country and Empire still has the best. Their sauce is top notch. The owner also owns East Sushi next door and can deliver together so my family always orders from both. Only con: no seating here and in the winter it is super cold inside. But the food is unbelievable!
It depends what day you order! Food is great some days, mediocre on others. Very inconsistent. You never know if you will be pleased or disappointed. Fried rice perfect on one day, greasy mess on another. Spare ribs perfect on one day, charred on another, You get the picture.Updated: They have become much more consistent. Unfortunately, it is consistently bad. The food has no flavor, The rice is dry. Beef is tasteless. Dumplings are thick dough balls. Time to move on.
Got a lunch special thinking it would be about 6 to 8 bucks which is what I normally pay some place else. Was caught off guard when she said $13 for a lunch special. I asked if it was a mistake they said no. Reluctantly I paid and sat in my truck to eat and to my surprise the rice was cold....I tried getting my money back but they werent trying to hear it. Bad experience and customer service.
Used to be my favorite place but the female owner is a very Bad Customer service Person.Had multiple occasions where what I ordered for delivery or pick up was shorted on my order.Called to complain and the nasty owner claimed ordered was doubled check and basically called me a lair!Beware here folks when ordering. I Would order from pacific kitchen down the block. Much nicer folks and better food.
The food USE TO BE delicious. Last time I ordered the food wasnt as good and they are extremely expensive. For the money they charge I would at least think one would be greeted with a smile and a pleasant attitude. I find the staff and owners to be unfriendly and ungrateful. Lastly, I always ask for chinese mustard with my order and they never include it.
Im normally pretty generous when it comes to reviews but there and some things I saw that I couldnt look past. First of all the had no heat on so its freezing and the cooks were cooking in their winter jackets, hat, scarfs, and winter gloves!!!!. How they got an A is beyond me. The cooks would then readjust themselves and go back to cooking and touching raw meat with their winter gloves!!!! Theyre work environment is COMPLETELY UNSANITARY AND FILTHY! THE PLACE LOOKS LIKE IS HASNT BEEN CLEANED IN YEARS! Not to mention the food was TASTELESS!
Given this places good reviews, I had good expectations for this place when ch were not met. First, they didnt understand my husband when he clearly ordered the food. They also said they couldnt let us pay the tip at delivery and wanted us to pay it when we ordered. I refused and ended up having to scrble to find se change for the delivery guy. The food was also extremely expensive. A general tso chicken, chicken and broccoli, and fried chicken dumplings, with two drinks for $42. Never have I had such an expensive Chinese meals. For being so expensive, they werent even good. The portions were good, but thats about it. The sauces were bland, the chicken was bone dry, and the dumplings were just awful. They looked like they were bpuoed and then quickly pan fried, and the texture was awful. The chicken inside was just a bland solid mass of white chicken with no flavor whatsoever. Couldnt eat them, and Im not a finicky eater. Would not order again.
The food is delicious!, a little pricey but worth it, I love the fried shrimp wonton w/ that delicious sauce for dipping!, I dont get to go as much because they moved the business to the South Shore of the Island......they should have stayed on the North shore of the Island... oh well
There food is terrible now. I always order roast pork chicken Dumpling soup this time they got my order wrong there was no roast pork in the soup I only received chicken dumpling soup with a glob of garlic on top the soup was disgusting and I would never order from them again.
Best show in town. Prices in line with quality/portions. Those that say theyre overpriced are probably people who dont mind a $6.99 disgusting combination that you would find above the Staten Island Expressway. You get what you pay for, in this case a nice amount of quality food.
They didnt bring the full order we call them when the order came half hour late still no food, called again the manager was arguing with me as to when I called, 20 more minutes later still no food, the Manger was very rude, guess there so busy they dont care WELL NEVER ORDER FROM THEM AGAIN
I been going here for 20 years never messed up a order all the sudden last 4 times i ordered the order was wrong either wrong food wrong bag or order itself wasnt way I wanted it i called them up they told me come back in well make u a new order witch is nice whats not nice is them not even giving a discount or throw something in for my family that just had to wait for the 2nd order and my time and gas going back to get it smh never has a problem before but last 2-3 months whatever they did = not good theres plenty of good Chinese in the area
2 steam pork dumplings 2 20oz cokes $40.75 really how do you get that price dont care how good food is thats unacceptable..You are losing business in long run, lower your prices so you get more clientell. I work a school we use to order everyday $300 plus kiss my business goodbye..

2022-06-13Ive personally never had an issue at Empire Szechuan, I personally think that the food is better than any of the other places Ive really ordered from (ex: Chopsticks). One noticeable difference is when I order sesame chicken from Chopsticks they usually have rubbery chicken but when I ordered from Empire Szechuan they had some of the most tender chicken Ive ever had from takeout at pretty much the same price, I definitely recommend. A lot of people complain about the prices but honestly its pretty much the same as most other Chinese takeout places, were living in New York, everything is overpriced.

2022-05-22The general tsos chicken just tasted like syrup and the pork fried rice was cold and not cooked completely. My S.O had stomach issues for a few days after eating at this spot. The workers were exceptionally rude and the place was dirty. We will not return and do not recommend you waste your money. 0/10

2022-06-12Ive been ordering from here for years.Never again after today..Place has gone down hill fast and gotten out of hand expensive.I ordered a General Tsos chicken, some dumplings and a few soups - $120 bucks.. 🤦♂️The guy on the phone is yelling at me that he cant here me after each item I order although hes clearly repeating everything Im saying...How TF cant you hear me if your immediately repeating my order back to me?I give him my credit card # and expiration - he yells OK and hangs up..Unbelievable..You wont get my business any more.Theres plenty of Chinese restaurants here who appreciate their customers.

2022-03-12I have no experience with this establishment but I got a menu flyer in the mail and I must say that his prices are ridiculous and I’d never pay for mediocre (3.6 rated) food such a high price!! We all remember the days of the’70’s and 80’s when places like ChinaTown( Hylan Blvd & New Dorp Lane served superb food at a third of the price and it was top quality bulging off the serving platters and out of the take-out containers!!

2021-06-11I have been coming here for twenty years. Not only is the food fantastic BUT the combo is the absolute best bang for your buck! So many local places have combos that barely fill me! These guys? Two meals worth....easily! Had the most delicious egg roll too! Highly recommend this place!
