Fun museums but more geared for older audiences. I have not been here since elementary school but the Christmas trees were something I remember going to see on grave school field trips. Wish there was a little more hands on items for the kids.
This is a great place, both the architecture and art wise. One of the best buildings by Lt. IM Pei. It has an amazing character to it. Very dramatic.

Small museum. Went when they were exhibiting their history which is fine if your into it, but we werent. they had a nice ceramic exhibit on the lower level but seemed to be between exhibits elsewhere.The building looks and feels cold. I get it, I.M. Pei is the architect, but cold concrete is not inviting. Not in Soviet Russia and not in Syracuse. They need to warm up the walls and the floor. Natural woods and textiles would help.
Museum was pretty nice. Good price. I loved the porcelain collection downstairs! I was, however, quite surprised at how small the museum seemed.

Nice small museum. Exhibits well laid out and displays clearly labeled. Cruz exhibit on now. Street market vendor day was interesting, good variety.
Their admission fee is voluntary after the COVID-19 pandemic. Rich collections scattered within three floors. Enjoyed thoroughly there. Not many people there, feeling safe.
The museum allowed us the opportunity to take photos there for our wedding. The staff was very helpful and allowed us to do what we needed. The guests were great too, stopping to congratulate us and little kids kept taking pics with the bride because she looked like a princess. We were very pleased with everything and greatly for the opportunity.
Wasnt bad. Lot of different types of art and art styles. Definitely worth the visit
This museum was mediocre. I wasn’t insanely impressed but I liked the variety of art. The organization wasn’t very good either, artwork of for example a pecan was located next to historical artwork which was quite upsetting. I liked the inclusivity of artists with disabilities or special needs. This museum needs more funding. They have a beautiful building they just need to take advantage of it.
My favorite work of art is the museum itself. From a beautiful staircase, to a play in heights, point of view, materials and shade and shadow. Truly a beautiful building!
The “Who, What, When, Where” exhibit being run right now is amazing. I highly recommend visiting to see this installation.
Decent local art museum with rotating exhibitions and strong community engagement. The staff is friendly and admission is usually 8 dollars for adults. A nice place to spend a few hours contemplating art if you have an afternoon to relax while I Syracuse. Recommend for visiting.
Nice collection. Good lighting. Cool use of mirrors to show the back sides of ceramics along walls. Seems some rooms are blocked off for future exhibits. 3rd Thursdays are free. Wednesdays are pay what you wish.
Always interesting to see whats on display. First visit in a long time. Festival of the trees seemed to have a lot less to offer than I remember, but still a nice treat.
As always the Everson is a pleasure to visit, as it was last visited in 1974. Inspired architecture by I M Pei who also influenced the Empire State Plaza design by H and A.

We love participating in the family days here. Its a great way to expose our little ones to an amazing variety of artwork.
The building itself is a work of art... the art contained within the walls was interesting and historic. Also a great place to go on a hot, muggy summer day.
Downtown market second Sunday of the month is so much fun! First one this ye6was a little sparsely attended. Well be back to see if more vendors participate. Hope so.

Great art museum! There are 3 floors and each one has its own unique vibe. It took me about 2.5 hours to really explore and read everything.
I must confess, I wasn’t that much of a fan of the art. But boy oh boy, you need to see the building. So small yet grand. Highly recommend it to architect lovers.

Ive been visiting Syracuse this week, and was finally able to get out to visit this Art museum today. Honestly, I cant recommend it enough! The displays are really nicely put together, with a good variety of art mediums (Ceramics, video, photographs, paintings, etc.). Its also a really nice size - not too small, but also not so big that you feel overwhelmed by the amount of art. And at $6-8 a person, the price was absolutely worth it.I also feel like mention needs to be made of the staff. They were probably the most friendly people Ive ever met in any gallery/museum Ive ever been to! I had some really nice conversations with two of the men working in the gallery (I think one said his name was Walter). Usually the security people at galleries are taciturn, uninterested, and imposing, but that was not the case here. Likewise, the women at the front desk were very helpful in answering any questions I had, and the one security man on the main floor whose name I didnt get was very kind in helping me figure out how to get back to my hotel when arranging taxis proved more hassle than it was worth. Thanks so much for a lovely afternoon - if any of you see this, it was a pleasure meeting all of you :)

The Everson is a perfect place to get out to indoors yet safely distanced. Enjoy some great art and browse their great gift shop! One of our favorite places in normal times, and a wonderful respite in these times where it is more difficult to find places to go when you just need a break from home.
Small but pleasant exhibits with a strong focus on ceramics. About 1 to 1.5 hours to tour.
The Everson is an art museum which focuses mainly on pottery. Theres a lot of history to go along with the art which is really interesting. All of the employees we came across were very nice and helpful with questions we had about certain pieces. You can tell they have a lot of passion. Definitely want to go again soon and would absolutely recommend. A nice family activity, date, or to go with friends.
I loved the Yoko Ono exhibit! So interactive and interesting.
I did not actually visit the museum itself... yet. I took my son for a week long (1/2 day) Art camp. The camp was wonderful! The staff was great and they made fabulous art throughout the week. I loved that it ended with a little art show showcasing their work the last day!
Great place to take sometime to look at some art. Theres all sorts of things being displayed here from paintings, photographs and sculptures. Best to pay attention to who and whats being displayed if you want some variety. Ive quite enjoyed spending time here, especially back in my high school days after school. It was a great way to end off the day before going home.
First thing is finding the entrance! The architecture is amazing but not really people friendly on the outside. The building becomes part of the experience on the inside. I thought there would be ceramics exhibits and was surprised there werent, but a very good collection of modern art works. One of my favorite events is the Christmad Tree display hete at the museum.. The creativity of local organizations as well as individuals is phenominal. One year we bought our tree f/ this event. I love going to appreciate the work of other artists & the originality of all the work.

This is a great museum I love the Everson Museum. Its a great place to bring kids to not only expose them to Art but also culture. Its a tribute two modern architecture the building itself and during the summer time they show movies outside using the building as a backdrop.
The city market is here there second Sunday of the month. It has a lot of very nice art work for a smaller museum. Their ceramics section is extensive but was currently under construction. They have other cool events like a art murder mystery party.
This visit was mostly to view the Festival of Trees. But The Everson is always full of surprises. We are very fortunate to have a world class art museum within walking distance from the building we work in.
Excellent art museum for central new york, often has exciting contemporart artists on display. Their perminent collection on the other hand is a bit of a let down as compared to a few years ago much of it has been taken down and is rotated which is somewhat disappointing, especially in the newly remodeled ceramics section which feels small. Especially when compared with the old layout.
It was a nice time and an interesting number of pieces. Would have to have an option of a guided tour or something like an app to follow as you went along enjoying pieces.
Usually I am not a fan of modern art, but many exhibits caught my eye. A fun museum.
Like most buildings by I.M. Pei Ive experienced, this one is a monolithic block of poured concrete hammered into a textured finish. Its brutal, and huge, and grey. Unlike most buildings by by I.M. Pei Ive experienced, it contains a lovely art museum with friendly staff and a collection of permanent and temporary works spanning a vast range of times and styles. The price of admission is very reasonable for a country where admission is charged to view storehouses of cultural treasure, and Id pay to visit again when the opportunity presents itself.
Be aware that the lower level of this museum has a music recital Hall, accessible through the columns off the courtyard. They have recitals on Sundays.
Great art but was very unsatisfied at being the only one followed through the entire museum. If the security guards in red shirts didnt follow you through the entire museum probably would have enjoyed it more. Will not be returning for a while.
I love the Everson. From its architecture to its amazing exhibits its got the class of an upscale art gallery in NYC. They also host these fantastic movie nights outside every couple weeks in the summer that have great picture quality and sound. They put them on with Urban Cinematheque and lightwork. They are a real treat and are my partner and my favorite date night!
It was okay as the exhibits were not large and there were not many exhibits. However it was nice to get out and enjoy the art.

The museum was interesting yet small but the workers were super snoodie and talked to me as if I was stupid. Also one worker followed me around as if I was a thief or something which was very unprofessional made me feel very uncomfortable! Overall bad experience I do not recommend this museum bc of the staff in particular.
Great art museum! They have a Daryll Hughto exhibit right now and its magnificent. Also they have an exhibit about Americas history, which is amazing because its not just what you hear about in history class. Theres many more perspectives to the story of our country.
The Everson is a wonderful Museum designed by I.M.Pei that students at Syracuse Universitys School of Archicture frequently visit to study. This spring, I was the treasurer of ASO and helped plan Beaux Arts, a ball for architecture students, and loved having it here. It was hectic since I was behind the scenes and had to check students in and make sure drinks were available, so I didnt have as much fun as everyone else, but I enjoyed going through the exhibits the first few hours of the ball. If youre a group that wants to host an event here you should plan and reserve in advance because a sorority group was also vying for the same date as us.
Interesting exhibits. We arrived when the top floor was closed, so admission was donation based. Im not sure I would have said the visit would have been worth the regular admission price.

A Truly Enjoyable Art Museum.This Museum was founded 121 years ago.. but the current building, [designed by the World Famous architect I M Pei] was built about 61 years ago. The building [which is also centrally located] is also a Work of Art as its facades are often used in projecting video art. The focus of the Museum is on American Art... and, particularly ceramics (including an amazing collection of old Chinese porcelain vases), and its collection has about 11,000 pieces. The permanent exhibits are also supplemented with travelling exhibits! It is definitely worth a visit!I hope that this review has been helpful.
Very good collection of sculptures and mixed media. Not a very big collection of paintings. Some photographs. Excellent building design and first museum designed by I. M. Pei. All in all, a great way to spend a few hours.
Festival of Trees is still happening, do the Museum looks festive.
If youre in Syracuse, broke, and/or into ceramics, do NOT miss this pay-as-you-wish museum. On the lowest floor are some of the most astonishing and varied clay masterpieces by artists all over the world. Yes, there is beautiful pottery. But there are sculptures made to resemble cardboard, leather, wood, styrofoam, and all manner of other media. On upper levels are rotating exhibits, some ancient art, modern paintings like what one would see in NYCs Whitney, and a gallery full of Tiffany glass. There is also an interactive and educational section for kids (and kids at heart).
For as small as Syracuse is, it has a wonderful art museum. Its worth a visit , plus returning visits if yourre planning activities in Downtown Syracuse. If I went downtown again , I certainly would revisit the Everson Museum of art.

I was so proud to say that I was from Syracuse when I visited Washington D.C. to visit the Art Neuvo/Art Deco exhibit in 2000 and realized that the Everson Museum had 4 or 5 pieces from their collection on display. The Everson has one of the most extensive pottery and ceramics collection in the country. They have also hosted some of the best special traveling exhibits from paintings; vintage clothing; Arts & Crafts / Stickley furniture and decorative arts. You can check their website for upcoming exhibits. If you live in the area, see the variety of programs from children.
Ok museum. Small, seemed over priced for size of displays. Saw whole musuem in under an hour. Felt strange because employees follow you around watching you to ensure you stay a certain distance from exhibits
Festival of trees was fun! Artisan shop was a plus.
It was a quick and short trip and only got to see two floors but I enjoyed, my friend did not lol
Went for downtown Syracuse Christmas weekend, they had many trees on display, a Santa for the children, besides their existing art displays. Very fun time for the family!
The Everson is one of the best museums in the Northeast! Current exhibit, that I went to see, is by Juan Cruz. Juan is from Puerto Rico, lives in Syracuse, and is an amazing artist. Well worth the trip! The museum has a diverse permenant collection, including a comprehensive ceramics collection. Local Syracuse Artist David McDonald is in the ceramics collection, and for me, is the gem of the collection. His work reflects his African American and African heritage.
Absolute rip off, and they weren’t even charging when we visited. If you like cheap motel art this is the place for you. One piece was literally a picture of garbage emptied from a trash can.
Very small and sparse. This museum took us only 15 minutes to go through. I think we spent the most time in an installation about Farside-esque comics. What do you expect for $5 donation? I was more interested in the Erie Canal Museum.

Once again Elizabeth Dunbar and her staff have brought new life to the Everson. The latest show, Three Graces, is a feast for the senses., alive with color, stunningly displayed to bring a resounding WOW as your visceral response/ Dont miss a visit to this show. It will fill you with joy. Every gallery is new and refreshing thanks to Dunbars vision. Once again , the Everson is the treasure it was meant to be.

Been working there since 1994. Good place to visit . We have many different art shows a year and so we should have art that many people would enjoy.
I love the everson. Artwork is changed often. Renovated downstairs room is absolutely stunning. Childrens wing for parties and camps also a smart update!
The pottery section is great but the rest is... there is no stories behind the paintings. It’s banana art. The movie section was probably above my comprehension

Recently,I visited the Everson Art Museum located in downtown Syracuse and I enjoyed its fine collection of Ceramic works of Art.I especially enjoyed the following Ceramic works;Jun KanekosPolka Dog Dango,Adelaide RobinsonsScarab Vase,Wayne McCleansStatue of Liberty To Do it Yourself(quite humorous),Viktor SchreckengostsDictator,Ron GorshovsStrand,and Fred MeyersMan With Corn Cob Pipe,among others.Americans with fine paintings at this art museum,many of them displayed Gallery Style were:George Inness(Nook Near Our Village,fine Tonalism),Sanford Gifford(Sunset,Bay of New York,Hudson River School),Glenn Coleman(Ferry)Ernest Lawson(Early Spring),and Reginald Marsh(Mural For Museum of Modern Art),in addition to others.I also saw fascinating creations by Red Grooms(Little Italy) and Francisco Alvarado Juarez(Buffalo Trophy).I liked the temporary Daryll Hughto exhibit at this charming art museum which included his paintings of boats(Wing To Wing)(All Along The Watch Tower).Hughto grew up in the North Country of New York State.Even though this art museum is limited in its range of Art,I still felt it was a valuable experience.

Coolest place although some annoying people can be found here often. Just ignore tham and enjoy the place.
It was okay but half of it was under construction so I didnt get to check out the whole place. But it was clean and professional and got lockers and hangers if youre a tourist or student and just dropping by.
Its clear the museum is suffering financially, but is making an effort. Not much to see. I toured the whole place slowly in about 35 min.
I love this museum. It is small but so is Syracuse, ha. They have a ton of great programs year round so it is more than a museum.

2021-09-13It was a beautiful building with lots of modern abstract art. The only problems were the harsh long concrete stairs and concrete architecture. It reminds me of an abandoned artist’s homeless shelter. I was not that happy after looking at these art work, and usually I feel good after visiting an art museum.

2020-05-16As a sculptor I was hoping to see more of the genre. The space was very large open and cold but when you enter some of the smaller spaces the art seemed to warm up the space in a gentle soft manner. I enjoyed the paintings in the lower space. A few Jackson Pollocks. Warhol and Other pop artists Over all worth, an enjoyable quiet afternoon of reflection in a museum well curated with enough seating to really observe some great work

2017-12-05We had such a lovely visit! Every time we visit my family we stop by to take in the fantastic architecture and wonderful art. If not for the oddly trailing second floor security guy - dont remember being trailed conspicuously and creepily last time we visited - everything was great. Even my toddler really got caught up in the ethereal, surreal qualities of the architecture and space.

2022-04-04We had a great time. My favorite section was the Abisay Puentes pieces. Arlene Abend’s sculptures were also a must see. Overall it was an amazing experience.

2021-04-20Definitely a smaller museum than some of us might be used to but it’s a great way to get out of the house and still feel safe. COVID precautions in place and if you’re fully vaccinated you can get in for free if you bring proof.

2020-12-22I went to check out the festival of trees and lights. I have loved ones whos names were on the od memory tree. However, I enjoyed looking at the other exhibits. Small but nice content and friendly staff

2020-09-14Great curation and display of works. I think part of it was being renovated or switching displays. I wish there were more works of art here! I hope they build a new giant wing and their collection grows. Nothing better than a fabulous art museum. This one is beautiful. You should visit! The staff is Practicing covid precautions. ✨🧡

2019-07-07Great art as always, however, I was disappointed that the ceramics are no longer on display, so that I could show them to my girls while were here on vacation. A curated exhibit is being created, but it wont be available until after were gone.
