Excelsior College in Albany
Great School! I graduated 15 years ago with my BS. I started in 1989 with other schools and decided to buckle down and excel. The process was very detailed and thorough. What folks need to understand is that independent online study is individual effort as well!! My adviser isnt there to hold my hand at every avenue, just to give guidance and advice! Either you want a degree or you want to learn. The choice is yours!!!! Once I touched base with my adviser, the process was easy. I always got approval from the Excelsior advisor staff (called Regents at the time) prior to taking a classes. There is actually only one online course on my entire transcript. I transferred credits from my Junior Colleges, from UMUC, and from St. Leo University. The experience is what you make it!!
I currently am attending this school and am about to leave because the workers aren’t proficient enough especially they Financial Aid department. I attend this school with 5 friends Of my other friends and we have the same problem with this school financial Aid department. In June 2020 they asked me for an ECE verification and I called them immediately to ask questions concerning that and Jessica who works there said they are going to send my the paper work in 7 days. I waited for the paper so I could fill it out and send to ECE I never received after 10 days of waiting. I called back again and they decided to send it immediately I called and said I was suppose to call on the 7th day. I had to wait for almost a month to get my ECE verification back and then they sent me to upload numerous documents which I did and they said I should resend it like 3 more times and I juts got fed up because they are not proficient enough and need training.
I used Excelsior to finish my bachelors degree and took 6 classes online through them. The coursework is generally pretty good and relevant to the subject. Instructors were all responsive and varied between fair and excellent in terms of knowledge and ability to communicate what they wanted.Advisors leave something to be desired, as they were not always responsive and information provided wasnt always the clearest. However, credit transfer policy was generous, especially in terms of accepting military training.Classes are also fairly expensive when compared to other online options. Overall a good option for those using employer or military tuition reimbursement or veteran benefits, but I would consider other options if paying out of pocket.
I graduated in 2012 from Excelsior with a BS in Liberal Arts with areas of focus on Psychology and Philosophy. I enjoyed the classes. It allowed me to complete the few classes that I needed to complete from UT Martin and get my degree. The teachers were not pushovers. They did however offer guidance and help every time I needed it. I know this is not the same as being a RN or the same type of work to get that degree. I do not have anything negative to say about the program. I finished the two classes that I lacked plus the one class in library science and orientation that they required within 6 months while working full time. I think that many reviews will depend upon your course of studies.
I started going to this college many years ago. I have never had a problem with any of the personnel in the administrative offices. I do have an issue with teachers who want to use their own books at an exorbitant price for the class. As a military enrollee at this school, it has been a good opportunity to pursue and get my degree. They worked with me early on to consolidate a multiple number of colleges I had attended to compile college credits towards my degree. I was able to take the military exam for college credits and the Excelsior school exam for college credit. If you are an adult learner with a little motivation to finish the college degree you started way back when, this is the place to enroll.
Excelsior College is an excellent program, because it allows you to earn your degree while still working to support your family. The advisors are very helpful as well as the instructors. If you are not self-disciplined, then it is not the school for you! It is not a scam! I just earned my Bachelors Degree in Health Sciences and am getting ready to start on my Masters! You get out of it what you put in it!!!
It took me a looooong time to complete my degree work but, I DID IT.Excelsior was a great experience. The Advisors were always right there when you needed them. Finance was also very helpful. I enjoyed working with Excelsior VERY much and am extremely glad that I chose them to complete my degree work.Thank you Excelsior.Jerry S. Richter
My experience was great, Excelsior College, will make you work. Trust me if you do not put in the work they will fail you, so be prepared to work and set a lot of time aside. Standards at this college is the same if not harder than some of the colleges and Universities around the country. The staff the professors are there to help; you just have to ask. If you are looking for an easy ride, this college is not for you, they take pride in their degree they issue, and it is a fully credited college, so they have to be tough. The great thing is when employers see this degree it carries a lot of weight.
I have just started at Excelsior College. I am pursuing a 2nd bachelors degree. The school is not overly helpful, nor are the professors, but being an online school, I am not all that surprised. Course requirements are not explained. What it amounts to is you teach yourself the material, and the school certifies that you learned it, for a fee. My real reason for the negative rating, however, is that I signed up for a class, then dropped it the same day to sign up for a different one, because an adviser told me I may be able to transfer in the 1st course when they finish my evaluation. Then I got a bill for $50 for the class I signed up for and dropped the same day, a week before classes even started.
I am a current student at Excelsior College, and I do not recommend the nursing courses for any reason. As a veteran, it is not worth the money. The workload in the Nursing AA course is extremely too much. The grading system is extremely hard. I have a Bachelor degree from a well-known school, and I did this amount a 4-year degree. Discussion question are usually fun, but not at this school. The discussion questions are like a mini research paper. It will take you at least 2 hours or more to post your initial posting. After all that time, you still not guaranteed to receive a 100%. The response to students is the same, and you must add citations to a response question. DONT DO THIS SCHOOL, AVOID FOR ALL REASON. Its never a balance with the questions, either you get one part right and the other part incorrect. Once you correct that part, then the other part is incorrect. It is never a balance. I am not sure concerning the 5-star reviews that are posted here, but I am telling you the truth from my experience, its not worth. I am not looking for anyone to give me a grade, I will work for my grade, The grading system is extremely unfair for a two-year diploma. I have thought this school was money-centered, and I now believe that. Excelsior College application fee is $100, and Harvard University is $75. Figure that out. Many people havent heard of Excelsior College outside of New York. Harvard is a well-known school, and Excelsior application fee is higher than that college. That should have been my first warning sign. This school is all about the money, and there is no hiding it. The nursing courses are about $1400, and the amount of work that is required is unbelievable. If you have to use this school, I recommend taking the taken the exams for $345 ($60 Pearson Vue fee). I agreed to take 12 credits for the annual fee to be waived. I will pay the annual fee and complete my degree with the exams. I have four more courses to take to complete my degree. I can assure you that if I werent going to law school, I would not attend this school for my Bachelors degree. They have changed the rules again; you can only take the exams when the courses are being offered. So you have eight weeks to take the exam but can ask for an extension if needed. Just buckle down and study for the exams. STAY AWAY FPOM THE COURSES, FOREMOST STAY AWAY FROMTHIS SCHOOL. There are study programs on Ebay that will help you pass the exams. I have read reviews prior about a lot of students feeling as though the school makes it hard for you to pass; I am now wondering if this is true. I graduated with a 3.82 GPA and getting ready to start law school, but this course has been more challenging than anything. Veterans take your GI bill to a real college. I regret ever starting this school. If I had to do all over again, I would have taken into account of the negative reviews that I read prior. I am not here to bash the school; I am here to give you the real truth concerning the nursing program. Another veteran made it all the way to the clinical and failed because they stated she contaminated the sterile field, which she knows that she didnt. Guess what $2500 down the drain. She refused to pay that amount again and obtain her degree from one of the transition programs here.ITS YOUR MONEY, SPEND IT ON A COLLEGE THAT YOU WILL BE PROUD OF.
Im not sure what any of the users below are talking about who say it is a scam. It is not a scam. It is an accredited university. Also, they dont try to fail students. I will graduate this year with a 3.8 GPA. I get As all the time. You also dont have to look for everything yourself. There are advisors who help you pick your classes and update you on your progress. I am a transfer student from a physical university and I like Excelsior better.
Currently Excelsior College is charging me $1800 for 2 classes that I did NOT take and had dropped. They denied my appeals despite evidence given that I had dropped the classes. Their response to me was too bad. I cant help but feel like I have been bait and switched. I am now going to have to pay $1800 for an education I did not receive. To say that I am furious and disgusted is an understatement. I received my BSN through Excelsior, have been an upstanding student, have recommended multiple people to their BSN program and was even on their MSN student liaison board. I have withdrawn and will be pursuing my Masters Degree elsewhere.
I had to withdraw less than 1 week into the semester because of the pandemic and returning to work. It was at the 75% refund and they still want me to pay $800 for 6 days of class during these uncertain times. Glad to see this establishment cares about money over education.
This College is totally accredited. It was started by members of NY Government to give people and alternative way to earn a degree way back in the 1970s before this sort of thing was even heard of.Any degree requires earned credits that are accepted by ACE does not matter from where if they are Accredited by ACE, the real scam is that other schools require a certain amount of credits be earned (paid for ) from their institution at big time bucks. Excelsior honors Credits from any accredited source and there Is nothing wrong with that. That is called educational freedom and empowerment.
Currently enrolled and taking classes. So far so good. Be sure to check accreditation for the degree you are going after and compare to other schools. For example, the MBA program is not AACSB accredited. All programs are accredited, its just that some are better accredited than others. It may or may not matter to you.The fees mentioned in other reviews are clearly defined on Excelsiors website. Payment plan options are also available. This isnt a scam.I will most likely change my review to 5 starts once I graduate.
I see a ton of negative reviews from folks mad that their respective programs required a lot of work in order to succeed... IF COLLEGE WAS SUPPOSED TO BE EASY, EVERYONE WOULD HAVE DEGREES. I graduated from Excelsior College in 2014 with a BS of Liberal Arts with focuses in Administration, Management, and Economics. The workload was daunting but doable even though I was active duty Navy at the time. Excelsior helped prepare me for the MBA program Im currently in. Excelsior is a GREAT SCHOOL. If you want a cakewalk or an easy path look elsewhere. Excelsior will make you EARN your degree as any school worth their salt will.
Im a member of the U.S. military, just graduated (completed my last class...same thing lol) on yesterday, 12-10-15, with my BA degree in Liberal Arts. Im convinced that some of the negative comments on here are bogus because theyre aleatory comments that make no sense, either that or they were upset at their grade. Shouldve devoted more time to their classwork, excuses are for the weak. With that, Ill tell you this. If you plan to attend Excelsior College, just know that their workload isnt light. Their courses are very creative and challenging in a lot of different ways. Theyll require a lot of your time during the week to complete, but when its all said and done, youll be proud of your achievements. Im guilty of it myself, I thought the college would be a cakewalk, but it turned out not to be. The instructors are firm, and they expect a lot from you. And if you dont produce, then your grade will reflect it. I hope this helps someone whos deciding whether to go with this college or not as this is straight talk. Great college, great instructors, and an overall positive experience.
I enrolled last year at first everything was great. I enrolled for two courses last semester approximately a month before my classes where to begin I was notified that my financial aid was cancelled until I sent in my passport to verify that I am a US citizen. I attempted to drop the classes until the issue was resolved. It however would not allow me to complete online instead provided a number to call I did the rep was unable to withdraw me. I received a tuition bill for 2080 for classes that I have never taken. I contacted the school attempted to have charges removed I was told they would remove one course only and I would be responsible for the other. I am confused about why I should pay for services that were never rendered I was instructed thatif I dont pay my information will be turned over to a collection agency. Currently exploring different options to escape from this school
Ive had only one issue throughout the entire time Ive attended and it didnt affect my schooling at all (though it did delay it a few months). They are so helpful and respectful! Theyre completely understanding of the unpredictable schedules of military personnel and were very helpful during the 2017 hurricanes. I will always recommend this college to those who pursue their offered degrees!
This is directed specifically to NURSING students and the Nursing program: do NOT waste your time or money. The overall exams are good and easy to pass if you study. However, none of that matters because of the CPNE at the end of the program, that they tell you not to worry about until its too late and youve already spent a lot of money on tests that dont transfer. The CPNE does not do anything it indicates it should achieve. It is a highly emotional, draining experience that does not rate how well a nurse would perform as a RN. The overall grading pass/fail is highly subjective based on the CE [clinical examiner] at the time. For example, I failed a PCS for dropping a pen on the floor and picking it back up without sanitizing it; however, a CE picked up a dropped medication blister packet and said it was fine to administer as is. There is supposed to be set standard, that is highly unachievable in the current testing situations as indicated by the high failure rate. It is appalling that many nurses have over 10 years’ experience when taking the CPNE, but fail because of minor issues IE: forgetting to check mucous membrane. This is not a critical element to any patient care, and would never lead to the death or injury of a patient based solely on not assessing mucous membranes; it is this piece of information combined with numerous other information that leads to appropriate patient care. To fail students on such obscene standards is horrendous.I highly implore the staff to review the entire testing process and adjust it. For reference, please see how EMTs and Paramedics are tested on their skill sets. You will see that there are critical failures, and percentage failing (or loss of points) for everything else that leads to pass/fail. Or if you insist on absolute 100% score passing, then do each of the competencies in a stimulation laboratory that is controlled, standardized, and just like the medication pass and aseptic technique are currently done (one for each competency). This would also decrease wait times for the CPNE, and allow for more students to test in a timely manner.Your college expects students to wait over a year and then charges an enormous fee for this weekend, expects students to pay for traveling expenses, food, clothing, books. lodging, etc. to be judged by CEs who deviate from the protocols/standards and fails EXCELLENT nurses and indicates they are not RN material; but dont worry, you can reapply, REPAY all expenses, and come back to test again. This entire experience was like a grand Ponzi scheme and psychological nightmare rolled into one.Excelsior College should be ashamed of the high failure rate, and take it personally that YOU are failing your students. Every nurse I have spoken to indicated that if they had known what the CPNE entailed prior to enrollment, and prior to be trapped mid-way thru their nursing criteria, they NEVER would have enrolled at Excelsior College. You trap your students with non-transferrable credits, and then unload the CPNE on them. This is horrendous, appalling behavior. I will never recommend any nurse to Excelsior College based solely on the CPNE unreliable testing and scoring. This entire test was based on the whims of the CE, and too highly subjective. This should not be acceptable to any College.
If money is no obstacle for you and you really need the schedule flexibility then its fine, the work so far is what I expected. But if youre financial aid trash like me and you dont mind being treated as such then I say go for it. My instructor has been great and the work is doable so far BUT trust me once they have your money they no longer give a damn about your time, and the financial aid dept is extremely shady its 23 days in to the term and they cannot tell me how much if any of a refund I will have after tuition is applied to my financial aid. Not to mention you are made to feel like you are inconveniencing them by asking for updates on YOUR MONEY, I seriously need a new laptop and books for next term. You know what my balance is, you KNOW how much financial aid I have received if you cant answer this question then something is seriously wrong. Not to mention they do allow you to buy books from their book store with a voucher from your financial aid but their books are FIVE TIMES the cost of other places so basically they are not about to do ANYTHING solely to assist a student.****UPDATE shortly after I posted this review I was contacted by someone from Excelsior who took the time to patiently and thoroughly answer all my questions. I am completing my first course this week and while I cant say it was easy (I suppose it shouldnt be to easy) I can say they give you all the tools to do the work and it is fairly graded with helpful feedback and I have been able to maintain a solid B even working full time with 3 kids one of which is 15 months
I will be starting the ASN program soon. Nothing about nursing is easy. College is not easy. They did note throughout the website to review what is required of you before you start. Everything is laid out. Its online learning, who thought you would get your hands held along the way. Every is not for everybody, and maybe the people complaining about the weekend clinical was not fully prepared. But they do tell you the topics and you should be prepared. You forgot to check the mucosa in the mouth? Lml. You know lesions can be in there and pose a threat to the elderly?
** EDIT 4/11/17 ** After my original reviews, I was contacted by the Excelsior social media director who gave my information to the head of the academic advising department. Sadly, after my conversation with her today, my opinion of the school has dropped even further; if that is even possible. She repeatedly apologized, not for the lack of communication from her advising staff, but for MY misunderstanding of their communication. After hearing this about four or five times, she drove me to tears. I had sent all of the email communications between her advisors and I, and even with that information, she said that since they responded to each of my emails (which didnt happen), then they fulfilled their duty. Unfortunately, just because you respond does not mean that you answer the questions that I ask. She was rude and demeaning and absolved her advisors of any issues; which I found to be completely unacceptable. ***I am a student currently enrolled here and after transferring in from Oregon State University ECampus, I must admit that I wish I had stayed at OSU. The advisors here are hands down the worst advisors I have ever experienced. I was under the impression that an ADVISORs job was to ADVISE the student and guide them in the enrollment of classes each semester. If the goal is to graduate in an efficient and timely manner, then I would think - based on the job title of ADVISOR - that they would try their best to help the student accomplish this goal. We are not able to enroll in classes ourselves, or I would have done this and bypassed the advisors completely. There is no way to find out which classes you need to take for your degree, except some shady PFD file that they update (not very fast) each semester, so there really has been no way for me to map out my own schedule. I was in contact with an advisor when I initially enrolled, Jodi Bernstein, who I told my goal of graduating by the next summer (with only 20 credits left, this was not a hard thing to achieve) and she told me she did not know if that was possible. When I emailed her back and asked why, she literally never bothered to respond. When it was time to enroll, I emailed her again and asked for her to unlock the classes so I could enroll but she never responded. I emailed her several times and ended up emailing the school and getting a very prompt response from another advisor. This continued for several semesters with me taking what I thought were the right classes. Fast forward to this January when I was informed that although I had transferred in with well over 170 credits, they only accepted 2 out of every 3 credits from the other school and I still had 15 credits to take until graduation - after I had just completed 15 credits. I called the school and spoke with Pauline Hooten, PhD who found a bunch of my credits that had not been previously applied. This was extremely fishy but I kept going because I really wanted to graduate by the end of the spring semester. I was informed that I had to take a capstone class and a 1 credit class that was not on the sketchy PDF. This would bump me into the summer semester but I figured it was a little rough patch. But low and behold, when I went to sign up for those last classes, Pauline Hooten, PhD informed me that oh, that class isnt offered in the first summer term. This pushes me so far past my goal of finishing classes in April. In fact now I will be taking two semesters in the summer, where I will be enrolled in a 1 credit class for one term, and a 3 credit class with a final class date of August 20th. When I emailed Pauline Hooten, PhD with my frustration at their lack of service, she emailed a very unprofessional and snippy response of how students are able to look at the class schedules which are posted at the beginning of each year. This is all well and good if you know which classes you need to take, but when your hands are tied and you are at the mercy of advisors who do not take their job seriously, then it does nothing.
I was a paramedic before enrolling into excelsior. I completed the course work for the AS in nursing, i passed the CPNE exam on the first try and was able to sit for the board, all that during an 18 month period, while maintaining 2 full time job to support my family. I dont know of any other school that would allow me to further my career under these conditions.i have been working as a nurse for four years now, i have completed my BSN with them; and i am in the process of starting a MSN with them also.Online school means the school schedule can adapt to your schedule and your lifestyle, as opposed to traditional school where you have to rearrange your work schedule, sit in traffic, then fights for parking only for the professor to mark you late.Excelsior offers a lifetime opportunity to those who can grab it and maximize it!! Excelsior rocks!!!!!!!!
Its a very well organized Legal Scam program. Do not include any clinicals, only a staged Cpne test , which is not define real nursing skills, their goal is to fail as many students as they can to get more money on students expense who work so hard and believed in this online program. From my own experience I was discriminated, humiliated and bullied from clinical associates and examiners. Please re thing your decision to go there, a lot of states do not recognize their education on line and they loose accreditation every year in many states, even if some states recognize their on line education they would still not hire you, because they know Excelsior does not prepare appropriate, knowledgeable, Rns that would have great nursing skills. How can you be a good Register Nurse if you dont go to hospital learn and practice nursing skills.......Excelsior would accept students who have no nursing experiences what so ever and not having clinicals its puts our society in danger to care for patients who are really relay on good nursing skills.I just disputed my money with credit card and got full refund for Cpne test 2.145 $, my reason was, the Excelsior failed me to provide with fair opportunity to pass Cpne, like I said before, I experimented not the the examination side but discrimination and humiliation. I am very fortunate to work with my credit card company who be lived and worked with me to get my money back.
I am currently enrolled. I am scheduled to start classes on March 03, 2014. I have had to find every single piece of information that I need on my own. I have had no guidance what so over on anything. I am one day from starting my class and just about an hour ago did they FINALLY send me my book voucher (financial aid). I submitted every document that was required back in January and one day out from starting my three classes I am just now about to order my books. No one ever calls to follow up and see if there are any questions or if you need any assistance. Granted, they have information links on where to find important information but its not very detailed. When I called back in the beginning of Feb. the financial aid officer talked to me like I was born last night and didnt know jack about navigating a computer. I have taken three computer programming classes and you have to be vey computer literate and have common sense to find anything you need because if you count on them to help, youll be waiting for a while. Good luck!
Excelsior College is amazing because it is regionally accredited (most if not all other colleges and graduate schools will honor your credits and degrees completed at Excelsior) and non-profit (mission to help society). I definitely recommend Excelsior over colleges that lack regional accreditation. Colleges that lack regional accreditation (Ashworth, ITT Tech, World College, and others) are scams because some colleges and employers will not honor their credits and degrees. Please feel free to verify this information. It is objective.
Well Im from Detroit Mi I am a LPN that has been thinking about applying for Excelsior for my RN. I have worked with a lot of RNs even DON that graduated this program and they are great nurses... Its all what you put in its online so I know I will have to be very discipline so Im looking forward to finding out more information about the program.
@AskExcelsior in my advisor comments it says i must be within 6 credits of completing my general education requirements INCLUDING a&p and microbiology. So unless i hit the lottery i am being shut down by excelsior for a whole semester BECAUSE my A&P 2 class ENDING SPRING SEMESTER grade will not be posted in time for the SUMMER SEMESTER nursing class approval, ergo cannot apply for financial aid in time to register for either semester ..an A&B student. This should have been something i was advised of when i was registering for my first batch of PREREQUISITES i took it as i had to take all of these classes before starting nursing classes and by starting i mean logging into the class when it starts and doing the school work. If i had any idea one prereq had more weight on the other i would have started with it instead of going down the list somebody along the way couldnt be like hey i see through your map planner your ending with a&p2 just fyi you wont be able to get approval in time for those summer classes no approval no fin aid so lets rearrange your classes so that doesnt happen so you dont get royally screwed.i even think i freaking asked that guy when i called the first time about financial aid if there was an order in which i should take these classes!!!! I know for a fact he said no for a fact! i know the a&p was a requirement before STARTING THE NURSING CLASSES, STARTING i did not in the beginning when i didnt even know about excelsior college or approvals did i think about the approval waiting period , then the study plan waiting period, then the award waiting period, how long to hear back about book vouchers to buy books then to have them shipped to me. DID NOT EVEN KNOW about it i found out all of that on my own along the way and no i did not have a single clue about having to wait for approval to even submit my study plan yeah again a&p is a requirement prior to taking the nursing classes not approval for classes not submitting the study plan for financial aid to even be able to register for the classes. I went by the PREREQS which means a thing that is required as a prior condition for something else to happen or exist. What the book SHOULD have said is that the A&P classes completion with final grade posted is required prior to gaining approval for nursing classes/prior to applying for all financial aid. Benefit from personalized advising. Wow im mistaken it actually only says REQUIREMENT by written english and humanities. Once enrolled, you’ll work with your team of Academic Advisors to develop your degree completion plan. Meet your requirements at your own pace. Choose the credit-earning options that work best for you. Take courses. Study independently. Take your Excelsior College Examinations whenever you’re ready and stay on track. You’ll see, it’ll be worth the effort Yeah i just re-read through the whole she bang and i dont see jack diddly about having to do A&P before you can get course approval for nursing classes.Just FYI you might want to reach out to someone to get that fixed cause i cant imagine im the only one this has happened to.So fyi for everyone else,do a&p and micro bio first otherwise you will get stalled.
Attended this college in 1984-87 time span. At that time, it was University State of New York at Albany, and offered an innovative program: RNs could get their liberal arts and science components elsewhere, test out for the BSN. With six years of experience, it was challenging, but not impossible - the only way I would have made it through. I completed requirements, moved to Florida and was notified that I could come back for graduation, for a $65 diploma and graduation fee. Since I was 1400 miles away, I kept my Congrats letter, and moved on.Fast forward 20+ years: I need a copy of my transcript. I hunt all over for my school, only to find it rebranded as Excelsior. I also find they wont sent me a transcript - I owe them money. What for? Well, remember that graduation/diploma ceremony that I eschewed? Appears they went right ahead and charged me for it, although I never got a bill. I also never got notification that I was now considered a deadbeat whose transcript could not be released!I did pay the fee, but am still giving a poor review. The reason Im rating this school a 1 is due to the fact that I went to a somewhat prestigious school, which spun off into a no name, Pheonix University, type of joint. So much for reputable college...
Please save your money!!!! This school is absolutely terrible. All they want is your money. I have taken a course where the teacher was rude and unprofessional leading me to fail the course I complained because they wanted more money from me, they said they would re open the course for me to continue with it during that time the course didn’t work 9 times out of 10 and then finished it and they still wanted their money when they were very much aware of why I was upset. Then they said they would give me a course for no charge ha. I would never recommend or take another course with this school again. So now I received another bill that has 495 dollar charge just for being apart of the school. This school is an absolute joke and my goal is to ensure that other future students do not have to go through this. I’m getting in contact with NYS department of education to fight this because this school should not be open at all.
Great for adult learners and prior military. It is, in my opinion, a difficult college (which I like). Dont think the degree will be just handed to you because it is online. Workload is tough and requieres good time management skills. I enjoyed every class and I highly recommend it. I just completed my last class for a BS in Liberal Arts. Im also considering going for their BSEET or their BS in IT. Take advantage of CLEP and DSST examinations. I didnt, but I still dont regret it at all.
Wow! Erica Hacker saved me big time today! An issue with my GI Bill was quickly rectified by her. I was looking at not having the money to eat this month. She solved my issue expeditiously and was able to get me back on track with my GI Bill BAH. I am thankful she is employed by my school. Well Done EH!Edit: Well, she did it again! Second crisis averted and I always enjoy her laugh on the other end of the phone. Thank you thank you thank you!
I graduated 3 years ago from the nursing program. It is hard work but worth it. I received help when I needed it. I passed my CPNE first try. As a matter of fact, 5 of the 6 students testing passed. I only had a problem with the fact that I didnt receive full credit for classes taken at my local college. Extra classes were needed.
Organized corporate scam to take large sums of money from students. Bullying, discrimination, examiners flat out lie and falsify documentation during the CPNE to fail students. Here was the situation: 8 testers, 7 failed. The only passer was a re-taker. Not to be a whiner, this is just the situation! Beware if you are thinking of enrolling! Take the plunge and go to a real college. No amount of study, preparation or perfect performance will guarantee a pass. They will lie about something to fail you. They will humiliate you in front of patients and are very unprofessional. As a matter of fact, they will ignore rules and knowlingly put your safety at risk.
Too much to write here, but dont go here. Nursing program is just interested in your money. Teachers are just there to copy and paste announcements and grade discussion boards. Discussion boards are a waste of your time and propaganda. You do not get feedback on tests and the quiz answers are questionable. You can prove your answer correct but they will still mark it wrong. Academic dishonesty. No wonder lawsuits have been brought against this school. Go elsewhere and save your $$$.
DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME. THE CLASSES ARE A JOKE, THE TEACHERS DO NOTHING, YOU WILL LEARN NOTHING EXCEPT HOW SHADY A COLLEGE CAN BE. CHARGED MY BANK ACCOUNT 2CE AND OVERDREW THE ACCOUNT WHEN I HAD FINANCIAL AID IN PLACE. THERE WAS NO REASON TO CHARGE THE ACCOUNT WHICH ACCRUED THOUSANDS IN BANK FEES AND NOT PAID BILLS. BOTH TIMES THIS HAPPENED THEY ASSURED ME IT WOULD NEVER HAPPEN AGAIN BUT EXCELSIOR WOULD NOT PUT IN WRITING THEIR MISTAKE OR REFUND MY MONEY SO NOTHING WAS RESOLVED AND I OWED MY BANK THOUSANDS. I GIVE THEM AN F- THIS SCHOOL IS A JOKE. IF YOU WANT AN EDUCATION GO SOMEWHERE ELSE.
RUN RUN RUN IN THE OPPOSITE DIRECTION. UNLESS YOU ARE OK WITH SPENDING AN EXUBERANT AMOUNT OF MONEY AND THEN FAILING BECAUSE THE CE TOLD YOU TO DO SOMETHING AND THEN WHEN YOU DID THEY FAILED YOU ---RUN .WELL ORGANIZED SCAM THAT DOESNT PROVIDE ANY KNOWLEDGE OR EDUCATION .SURPRISED THEY ARE STILL IN BUISNESS.(I DONT WANT TO PUT A STAR BUT HAVE NO CHOICE.)

2022-04-21I am so happy that I chose Excelsior to complete my B.S. in Health Science. There were a couple of reasons; one being that it was meaningful to finally graduate from college in my hometown (Albany, NY), and the reputation that Excelsior College has for providing a quality education conducive to busy parents, professionals, you name it... Anyway, it far exceeded my expectations (I graduated in 2020). Originally I wanted to basically check the box of getting my degree after many years, however, once I finished I realized there was so much more to take with me and that I was not really done. So, my journey led me to a Masters of Science in Health and Human Performance at Pacific College of Health and Science in which I am at my halfway mark! I dont think I would have gone on to pursue my masters if I hadnt gotten so much from Excelsior. I have begun as a certified Health Coach currently and plan to teach college courses and write once I graduate from Pacific.Thank you to Excelsior College for educating me and providing an environment to encourage an open mind to endless possibilities. Just thought I would share this morning : )

2021-11-03Excelsior is the reason I was able to earn a college degree, go on to graduate school, have a civil service career and enter the teaching profession. I would not be the first college graduate in the family without their liberal transfer credit policy, low cost and get credit for what you already know philosophy. I earned over 100 credits via CLEP, DSST and other tests and getting them on a college transcript was make or break for me as I had limited financial resources and even less time, both while in the Army and afterward, working three jobs and starting a family. Thank you, Excelsior, for making a professional career a reality for me.

2019-07-12Ive no complaints with Excelsior College. Ive taken over 15 classes with them and everyone of them has been challenging. From an Associates degree to a Bachelors, the professors were always professional and courteous. I actually took the time to fly here from Texas to attend the commencement ceremony! People will get out of it what you put into it. Ill end it with that!

2021-11-02As a returning adult learner, I found Excelsior to be the best fit for my schedule. The ability to take two classes in separate session, for someone with a demanding career and life, was a huge plus for me. I completed my MBA at Excelsior and my career has taken off. All around, great experience.

2022-04-11Excelsior college does not support the African American student or Disabled student. They withhold resources from that student population,, which is a sure recipe for failure.

2021-11-03My 33 year successful Navy career began because Excelsior helped me get my degree while on Active Duty as a Junior Enlisted. The instructors worked with me to complete my degree, and I could not have done it without them.

2021-11-08Acquiring my Bachelor’s of Science in Public Health was an exemplary 3 year experience. The robust course offerings, exemplary professors, and support staff, provided an exceptional learning experience. The graduation experience in Albany was additionally an amazing experience. I started a Master’s of Science in Health Care Administration program at a well known 100 year old University and transferred to Excelsior College after two courses. The entire experience was the complete opposite of what I experienced at Excelsior and I immediately knew I made the right decision transferring back to Excelsior. I graduated with my MHA last month and the entire learning experience was also exemplary, from courses to professors. The BSPH degree provided me the opportunity to move into a management position and my MHA has prepared me for a Director role. Thank you Dr. Scott Dolan, Dean of Health Sciences, Dr. Anna Zendell, Senior Faculty & Program Director, and all my Professors throughout my academic journey. I highly recommend Excelsior College!

2020-06-20Great experience for non-traditional students. Classes are fun and the advisors are helpful. I earned my bachelors degree here and would recommend it to anyone thats thinking of going back to school. The people that leave bad reviews for Excelsior College are generally mad because they have failed classes or they had unrealistic expectations. Their reviews are usually riddled with errors. Just skip those and read this review. This is an online college for those who want to finish school. Not a college where you find yourself. Its not a scam, they arent interested in your money, and the staff tries their best. I have nothing to gain by telling you this. This is based on my real experience with Excelsior College over the last 2 years.

2021-01-15I have eleven more classes to complete the dual BS/MS degree program. This educational institution has been nothing but a wonderful experience! The Professors, Technical Support team, Financial Aid office, and the online navigation has been excellent! The weekly discussion posts are engaging and definitely promote a more personal experience considering the scope and limitations in face-to-face communication. I recommend this educational platform to all working students.

2019-10-17Worst college experience Ive ever had. All the classes are generic busy work with very little teacher engagement or learning. Need to talk to someone at the school? Good luck! If you ever do manage to get through to a person dont expect them to be helpful or have any idea whats going on. My adviser couldnt even tell me what classes I needed to take to finish my degree or what I had the prerequisites to take. She tried to sign me up for classes I couldnt even take, literally at the bottom of the description it says what you must have to take them but I guess reading that would be too hard. If you leave a message youll most likely never hear back. They transfer your calls constantly and half the time send you to the wrong extension. They attempted to transfer my call to the veterans center and instead transferred me to the graduate student office. Im not sure how you mix those two up. Overall I would rate my experience as one of the least professional out of any business Ive dealt with. A $5 sandwich from Chick-fil-a comes with a far more professional experience than this higher learning institute.
