We, a family of 5 including a baby that needs a highchair, were seated in a TINY cramped booth with rails, meaning we couldnt sit toward the end to make more room. That also means my 9 month old was basically sitting in the aisle alone. The table was absolutely plastered with paper placemats, plates, cups, there was no room to move whatsoever.Neither my husband or I finished our food - both of us got gourmet sandwiches. Mine was Steak-ums quality meat with little of anything else, his was a mountain of lettuce (the core, you know, the white part). Its just really unfortunate, because my husband grew up in Watertown and said The Fairgrounds was awesome. We had a little extra money and wanted to treat ourselves... Huge, huge bummer.
While traveling for the holiday we stopped by this local gem, one of my wife’s favorite places. The restaurant has a huge menu with many options. On this particular visit we enjoyed a “small” antipasto salad. The small is enough for two people, maybe three, but don’t be afraid to tackle it yourself. It is delicious. This salad had crisp iceberg lettuce, red onion, tomato, black olives, salami, provolone cheese, and dressed with their house dressing and parmesan cheese. We also had the Italian Bun sandwich, a toasted sesame seed Italian roll stuffed with turkey, salami, provolone, and veggies. But the star was the onion rings for me. Hand battered and cooked to perfection. They have a full bar with a few taps of beer. Notably, my favorite, Yuengling.
This is an all time favorite place to eat and drink. The food is very good and the staff is friendly. The nightly specials are a great bargain!Their prime rib is delicious and the price is very reasonable. The house dressing is amazing and is also a great dipping sauce for the chicken tenders. The Italian food including pizza is excellent! Their homemade sauce is the best around! The dinner portions are huge and a great value. The bar is a great place to meet friends for a few drinks and they always have free hot and cold appetizers on Friday nights!Overall this is a great family restaurant!!
We were looking for a place to eat at, that we can not get back home in Oklahoma. We seen this place and decided it was it. Staff was very friendly and the atmosphere was great. As soon as they brought out our meal after the salad and bread we new we were going to need a to go box. Lol. I would recommend to anyone to try this place. Great food and reasonably priced foe the amount of food and service.
My husband and I recently enjoyed lunch at the Fairgrounds Inn. This was our first visit and certainly not our last. The food was delicious, generous portions, and our server, Chrissy was excellent!! Great atmosphere, music, candles and it was lunch, cant wait to go back for dinner and pizza!!
The place was packed but was seated within 15min. I ordered the special which was Vodka sauce chicken. My youngest ordered the childs personal sized pizza for $6.99. My other child ordered meatball, cheese ravioli, and sausage. She enjoyed her dish. My dish was ok but probably wont ordered again. The childs personalized pizza was HUGE!!! Literally a regular small size pizza. We asked the waitress if it was the childs size for 6.99 and she said yes. When we got the ticket, it was $8.99. Wasnt happy about that. Not really sure well be back.
We’ve been here for lunch a number of times (always good) and thought we’d try it for dinner. The server was excellent but not the food. I ordered the ribeye and it was less than 1/2 inch thick and overcooked. Our server took it back only to return it to me saying “she” (owner or manager?) says all the steaks are like this. Unfortunately it was too tough to eat - I could barely cut it. No apology from anyone but an embarrassed server. So I ate the onion rings and paid $17. If the owner/manager had apologized or comped even a cup of coffee, we might have been tempted to try again sometime.
All the fried food tastes the same and was terrible, oily, like old grease. Butter garlic wings were bland with only garlic flavor. Mild wings , skin was rubbery. The Italian combo was the worst Italian food Ive ever had. Pasta was starchy and tasted watered down and the sauce was also watery and cheap tasting. Bottled beer was warm and server way too busy. They have way too many food options that they cant even handle cooking it well to need all those options. I do not recommend this restaurant at all.
Went there for dinner tonight just two of us and there was 5 tables around us with same waitress. We were the second to be seated and second to order. We sat there for 50 minutes watching all five tables get served before us even the tables with 4 people. And every time I asked she said the takeout orders are slowing down the kitchen... so why did everyone but us get our food fast. After waiting 50 minutes I can’t even cut into my veal because it is raw af. Thanks for ruining the night.
I have been to this restaurant multiple times, but I will not be returning after my previous visit. First off, the wait can be horrible depending on what day you decide to come. The entryway to wait can become extremely crowded and uncomfortable if you don’t like small places. The decor is extremely old and outdated. My husband and I have watched the hostess be extremely laid back, and not really eager to accommodate customers attentively. This last visit, there was plenty of seating options but we were placed at a small table in the corner and asked if we could please have a booth. The fish fry on Friday’s is really good, but since I went during a weekday I decided to try a salad. I was eating my salad until I got down to the very last few bites and I felt a hair in my mouth. I pull out the hair, and it’s the complete opposite color from mine. I tell the waitress, in which she apologized and offered to take it off my bill. I don’t think it should be offered, but mandatory that if someone finds a hair in their food, you refund their money and try whatever you can to make things right. The waitress came back and said that she spoke with the “cook” and told her what I said and that I wasn’t lying since her hair was the color I described. Why on earth would you tell a customer that, and question their integrity? Where was the manager in this situation? I am not only disgusted, but appalled of my last and only experience at this restaurant.
My boyfriend and I went to this restaurant last night the service was absolutely wonderful the bartender was wonderful as well. As for the food it was not wonderful. We both ordered the house salads. I ordered stuffed shells and meatballs and he ordered manicotti and sausage. We received our salads and then within 3 minutes we got our dinner which we thought was awfully fast. We went on to eat our dinner and it tasted like it was freezer burnt and heated back up in the microwave than served to us . I ate maybe half of a stuffed shell and a little bit of my meatball which was horrible it also tasted old and freezer burnt. He also ate less than half of his manicotti and took a bite out of his sausage and told me it was not edible as well . This food was absolutely horrible. All this was very shocking to the both of us weve ate here plenty of times. Every Single time we have ate in this restaurant the food was absolutely amazing and cooked perfect and never a disappointment. This is one of the best places to eat in Watertown. This is the first time we have ever got a bad dinner in this restaurant. We both were highly dissatisfied and disappointed in the quality of the food that we were served. The food clearly was frozen than reheated in the microwave and then served to us which is absolutely unacceptable coming from a fine restaurant.
They have the most delicious antipasto & our party was very happy with the taste of the food. ( Tuesday evening)..... Was discrbed as unusual, but our waitress must have been overwhelmed, dont know if short staffed or something bothering her but not mean butshort with 3 of us ,& like no time to answer ?s...... Till what seemed anyway - later when it was coming close to tip time. Just being honest - good food
Great place to grab some quality food. Was in town on a fishing trip with my dad. Went for the prime rib. Was awesome. Cooked perfect to order & at $17 cant beat it. Father also had a different steak and pasta. Salad was crisp & refreshing, the bread was awesome. All under $50. Server was great and polite. She was a doll. If we ever come back we will be sure to return here.
We had a delicious lunch today, veg beef soup and bbq chicken sandwich. Sweet potato fries are amazing...crispy but not hard! Great service from our waitress, Chrissy...what a doll! I have trouble hearing in crowds , but the place was full so a little more noise than usual Im sure, so that was ok. As people left it quieted down. Good lunch overall, so we will be back!
Pizza we ordered to take home was terrible! It says homemade pizza well there was nothing home made about it. The crust was store bought, the cheese was processed (fake) and sauce taste like it was from a jar. Price was $11.99 for six slices. Sorry but I was disappointed.
Ordered take out two burgers and one small fry at 6:00 and was told pick up was at 6:45 and we would be called to come in and pick up our food. At 6:45 no call we were waiting in the parking lot and called again and were told to wait for a call again and that they will be closing at 7:00. We continue to see people come and go inside, pay and pick up their food, and we leave at 7 since they are now closed. At 7:15 they call us to pick up our two hamburgers and 1 order of fries. Really- it takes one hour and 15 minutes to make? 30 minutes after we were suppose to pick up? I informed them that we had left; i would not recommend this place as the service was poor and meal not ready for pickup.
Very disappointed. The decor is great but the loud pop/rock music really didn’t match the Tuscan villa decor. The food was overpriced & extremely bland...paid way too much for 4–count em—4 stuffed shells in store-brand marinara sauce & everything w/the fajitas was unseasoned & bland like cafeteria food.
This place could’ve been great, but there were just too many compromises in the quality. We ordered a veggie pizza as our main course. The toppings were great, but half of the pizza crust was undercooked and soggy. We also ordered the appetizer sampler platter, which was fine except it was obviously (and confirmed) deep fried frozen foods. It seems like it wants to be fancy, but a lot of the presentation details compromise that. Overall, this place was a “meh”.Side notes:why does an Italian restaurant have fajitas? The beer selection is abysmalWe arrived two hours before closing on a Friday night and were the last customers of the night. The historical booths are amazing, but the decor is contradictory and mismatched. They pride themselves on being the first restaurant in town with a TV, but have bingo playing on repeat on the sole screen in the dining area.
Sat here for almost an hour to only receive cold food. Service was absolutely horrible! I guess it best to come here at lunch when the more experienced servers are working. Wifes sandwich was good, thankfully she shared because I did not have enough time to waste to wait for another dinner.
By far my favorite restaurant for special occasions. The food is hot and delicious. All the dinners are amazing and the salad with house dressing is a must have for me. Staff are friendly and always on their toes. Price is budget friendly, considering the large portions and tremendous food.
Great food selection and staff. I had the Lasagna with a House Creamy Italian Dressing on my Salad. I have to say that was the best dressings I have had. They should sale it. The portions were great. My son had the BBQ Sandwich special and he enjoyed it. Sorry about the picture of the Lasagna, I had taken a few bites beforehand.
My prime Rib was excellent, my husband ordered well done and it was bloody.. Needles to say he had a thing about sending food back to the kitchen, so he took it home. Waited 20 minutes for a second drink, which we only got because we reminded the waitress. Ordered no onions in our salads and they came smothered in onions. Waitress really didnt pay any attention to our requests. Will not be going back.
Absolutely love it as usual. Waitresses are top notch. Fast, friendly and accurate. Food is delicious. I personally ordered the manicotti with meatballs. Meatballs were huge. I ordered the carrot cake for dessert to go because I was stuffed from dinner. The next day, the cake was still moist and delicious. I cant say enough good things about Fairground Inn. Go and see for yourself. You wont regret it.
Upon entering business, waitress was loudly expressing unhappiness with fellow worker. Ordered shells with meatballs. Sauce was not good and meatballs tasted like hamburger. I am familiar with GOOD Italian food for over 35 years. Very disappointed. I ate 1 piece of my meatball and two shells. Waitress didnt ask if I was unhappy or happy with my meal.
The food was really good and had lots of flavor. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️The service, well, thats another story in itself. Our waitress was quick at first which seemed like a good sign until she quit coming back. My daughter was finally able to get her attention to get a refill but then the waitress took her burger and threw it away. We didnt understand what had happened because she wasnt finished. Then, I went to the restroom to change my baby and I had come back and my plate was gone. I, in no way, shape or form told her I was done with my meal. I guess I am lucky since she at least put it in a box for me so if could finish my meal at home. The rest of the staff seemed friendly and helpful.
We went there for lunch and my husband and I wanted to share a sandwich so we ordered the steak sandwich. We got a piece of steak on a single piece of toast. We were not happy with it since we specifically asked for a sandwich to share. We explained to waitress who said she told us it came that way however she never explained it was something we couldnt share. We asked to speak to a manager and the waitress came back stating there was nothing they could do and that the manager wasnt coming to the table. I was a waitress for many years in corporations and I could never imagine treating a customer the way we were treated. The manager couldnt even come to the table to speak to us and as per the waitress she stated we could box it to go or pretty much deal with it. Unbelievable. We would never go back.
Ive heard this is supposed to be good but we werent that impressed... Took about 45 minutes to be seated at 6 pm on a Saturday night. Ordered the prime rib- over cooked and the mushroom burger- bland!! Maybe we shouldve sick with getting a pizza? The place is cozy though. But I will say that it says its a family place and it was way too loud and crowded for our little one to get comfortable.
Walking in, I wasn’t impressed by the service. The hostess seemed annoyed I was putting in my name for a table. She cut me off mid sentence and I kept seeing her roll her eyes as people walked in. I was almost ready to leave because I didnt feel welcome at ALL. This hostess was an older lady probably mid 50’s had the short bob cut in case anyone is wondering who it was. We sat at our table and it took over 15 minutes for anyone to ask for our drink orders. Our waitress finally came over and she was definitely a breath of fresh air, she was polite and smiling. She took our order without writing it down, so I knew she knew what she was doing. The food came out, french onion soup was alright, too much bread honestly. But the salads were delicious, and i’m not a salad person. Our main courses were DELICIOUS! You could tell someone put some actual love into the food. 4/5 stars for sure.
Food was good, prices reasonable. We were told we couldnt be seated while we were waiting for another couple to arrive, if we wanted to sit and get something to drink we were told we could go sit at the bar, I said we dont sit at bars and we dont drink alcoholic drinks. We were told we could sit and wait on the bench seats in the waiting room I guess its called until the rest of our group came. My husband and I have never in all the places we have eaten at ever had to wait for others we were waiting on to arrive. This visit left us wondering what their reasoning was to treat customers this way. Another customer came in and while waiting to be seated asked us if we were next and we said no they wont allow us to sit at a table until our guess arrived and she said yes I know they did that to me before, she sounded annoyed as we have felt with this rule they made. This attitude or how they think their business should be ran is not satisfying the customer and making the customer feel welcome in any sense. We wont be returning ever again....i think the customers should feel welcome, and leaving them with an good experience that they would want to come again. Customer service is just as important as the service and the food. We would really like to know and understand the reason why a customer is made to wait out in the waiting room while waiting on their guest to arrive. Why cant they be seated and order their drinks and entrees while waiting for their guest to arrive? It just makes no sense at all.
The Fairgrounds Restaurant was packed as usual on a Friday night with the expected wait in mind we were seated and ordered within 15 minutes. Our meals were served within 20 minutes, impressive for how busy they were. Very good food with helpful wait staff. We will return.
Good food great prices, love their pizza and the burgers are great. Their house dressing is famous. The one thing I wish was different is they do what a lot of restaurants in the area do to pasta and overcook it. Its not al dente. Maybe not a huge thing for some but they would get 5 stars if it werent for that.
I am from Syracuse and here for the home show. Not being from around here I did not know where to go an eat. Well, I decided to come here. The environment is very friendly. I walked in and was greated almost immediately. I ordered the nachos and a saladto go which was done so fast and it tasted amazing. Very happy and I will be telling people at the show they should try this place out.
The only thing I would change is more recently every time we get a soda from the dining area it taste like soap or some sort of cleaner!! 😵 one waitresses went and filled it in the bar area and it tasted completely normal.Besides that their food is always awesome and tastes great. Their house dressing must be tried! Once tasted youll never want another dressing again! Reasonably priced too! Love Love love this place. Pls fix the fountain drinks!!!
In town for a week and stopped by for some dinner. The place was fairly clean and the staff super friendly. The food was ok. I had the stuffed peppers and the sauce was good but it wasnt much food. The peppers were on the really small side and the meat was a little hard in the center, burnt a little.Pasta alfredo tasted like jarred sauce, was kinda gross. The pasta also tasted like it was from the box and everything was mushy. Really not good.I would go back to eat, but not in my top 10 places to revisit. I wouldnt get anything we already ordered but try something new. Colemans is so good you would think the good food would also be here, but it isnt.
So tonight I was craving Italian cuisine and decided to go back to the Fairground Inn. The menu had such a fab variety I didnt know what to order so I went for a no fail dish; the Italian Combo. Its a huge plate with 4 typical Italian dishes that each have been halved from a normal serving size. Manicotti with a ricotta cheese so smooth its like a dessert. Angel hair spaghetti with a huge meatball. 1/2 stuffed green bell pepper, and white lasagna like Ive never tasted before! All covered in an authentic and made from scratch Marinara sauce. I did not forget the grated parmesan. All of this after starting out with a large tossed salad with creamy bleu cheese dressing and two fresh made sourdough garlic rolls. I only ate half of the meal and youd better believe I took the rest home. No I did not have room for dessert but the dessert menu was oh so tempting. The family dining atmosphere is comforting and makes you feel right at home. The huge murals of Italy are beautiful and the decor is rotated to be seasonally oriented. Dine solo or in a group, youll want to come back soon.

2021-10-23Great dinner location! We sat at the bar. Bar tender was on her own, so service was a tad slow, we didnt have anywhere to be, so it was no big deal to us. Salad was very fresh and the homemade dressing was excellent. Great cut of Prime Rib! Restaurant was extremely clean, everyone was very friendly and seemed to enjoy working there. Will definitely be back for another visit.

2022-06-11Not a bad place to have dinner or lunch. They seem short staffed.. food was pretty good. If you like wings they do great old school wings. Fries are fantastic as well. Was a little obnoxious with how close everyone is seated. We had a booth and the family beside us had a table.. if I moved just right I would of elbowed someone.

2022-03-28They were busy and hopefully the dine in people had a better meal. I walked in and was ignored. It was unclear of where to be to place a to-go order. They did however see a couple behind me that they knew , so they were seated. After that, I went to the bar area near the register and I was asked how could they help me. I believe it was the owner/manager. So, 2 lg. 2 topping pizzas. One was a 1/2 topping on each side, plus 1on the whole thing. That was charged differently than the other. Okay. I came back , got them, paid $56. with a tip and took them to my aunt & uncles house. I LOVE pizza and not living in this area any longer , I longed for some NY. pizza ! I was VERY disappointed with the pies. The crust seemed to be undercooked in the center, my toppings were fairly tasteless & slid off the slice from grease. And I know that pepperoni has some in it. I hate being this critical , but I barely ate 2 slices and left the rest. I have never done that IN MY LIFE ....

2020-01-07This place is unbelievable. True story, I stumbled across this place by chance while passing through town and was completely blown away. The food was so amazing, the service was on point, and the prices were beyond fair. I enjoyed it so much that I came back that I came back the next night to try more of the diverse menu. No joke, hand on heart, the food was so good that I fully intended on taking a photo and writing a review and only made it to the soup both times before I was completely distracted and never got another picture. The Fairground Inn is a MUST when visiting Watertown. I can’t imagine eating anywhere else when I visit.

2019-12-23Went here for a quick bite to eat with some friends. The environment was very relaxed and it had a local history tied into the decor.Food was great as well as the service. Definitely a local favorite, would recommend!

2022-01-13Usually excellent. My chicken (Fairgrounds Chicken dinner) was overcooked and very dry. I always love their salads with the house dressing and any of the sandwiches. Very fresh ingredients including vegs and bread. My family also enjoyed a pizza and French Onion soup.
