Had a great first time dinner here with friends, heard there is a new chef & owner. So glad we tried it out! The dishes remind me of food I ate in various family settings growing up (like the blaze & glazed pork, dad’s friend rice with the Chinese sausage), some of the flavors and combos really hit home for me: with a modern twist. The duck neck is clever, not for those that cannot eat a Bonney cartilage. The desert was so so good I cannot stop thinking about it: so light and delicious.
The food is amazing. We truly enjoyed everything (and had almost one of everything). Really creative, tasty, and nicely presented. Only reason I dont give them 5 stars is there was a mix up with our reservation and the manager was pretty rude and unapologetic. I guess you can be that way when youre popular. All the same, Id go back for the food. (Especially the fried rice.)
Updated review (9/19 visit): At the suggestion of Falansai, we came back to give the 6ish course tasting menu another try. This time both the food and the overall experience were wonderful. On food: we tried a range of dishes, from summer rolls with beef (flavor of the beef reminded me of another Vietnamese dish (beef wrapped in betel leaf)), a fluffy surf and turf stuffed bao, crispy fried fish in a supremely fragrant, pho like broth, a potato pancake stuffed with pig head and habanadas (first time trying this - all the flavor of habaneros without the heat, very cool), among other delicious dishes. It seems most other diners order a la carte, but the food was interesting and flavorful I encourage giving the tasting menu a try.The service was not too different from our first visit with friendly, helpful staff, but some simple explanations made the visit much more enjoyable. Firstly, that the dipping sauces placed on the table were not course specific (which we figured out eventually but the first time we came, they were laid down with pickles and without comment so the intended use was very confusing) and that the wine pairing was not intended to pair with the dishes specifically, but rather a progression of lighter to fuller bodied pours.Original review (9/11 visit): My husband and I did the 6ish course tasting and had the 5 glass wine pairing. Overall, nothing was bad, but only 2 dishes were well executed and interesting to us. There was a lot of use of the same components across the courses - for example, the second course was curry beef dumplings in sour soup (delicious, but the beef filling was not as juicy as expected/on the lean side), and then for the next course, we were presented with a long pepper, filled with the same curry beef filling and then tempura fried. As you can imagine, it was basically the same flavor as the prior dish. It was served with a dijonaise that I probably saw 4 more times during the meal. Dont get me wrong, it was good, but also like ....how about something else? The wine pairing didnt really work because we were off by a glass for each course, I dont know if it was because we were slow drinkers (doubt it, places usually serve you the next pairing regardless of whether youve finished the last one) or if it just slipped the servers mind.
Falansai is a fantastic Vietnamese restaurant in Bushwick. I rly wish I took more photos of their food, but I was so distracted from eating lol. Their green curry carries the perfect balance of full-body flavor with a clean aftertaste. Their fried rice paired with the green curry is the move. We also tried the pork on a bone, ceviche, and summer rolls. All great, and all pair well with each other. Next time I’m bringing more friends so I can try more dishes family style🤪
The restaurant is set in an old house, Bushwick, Brooklyn’s Wild West. Plenty parking and an old world feel.Good service, a classic, romantic, date place.I had the “Omakase”, Chef’s Tasting Menu. It was Ok, it didn’t send me flying over the ocean, or caused my taste buds to explode, but Ok.Maybe I should try some other dishes another time 🤷♂️.
“The worst part about this meal is that I will never have the opportunity to try this again for the first time” is something I used to say at restaurants that have blown me away. Luckily, the tasting menu at Falansai has the creativity to constantly give me that experience. Nothing we had was below astonishing in flavor. I can guarantee from the service to the food this experience will become your go-to meal for any celebration or just a great night out. DO NOT SLEEP ON THIS RESTAURANT!
We opted for the 6 course tasting experience for our first experience at Falansai (highly recommend). The courses were very well sized portions and we left completely satisfied. Some of my personal favorites: Egg Roll, Glass Noodle Salad, Duck Wings, Chicken Steam Buns.
Love this place. While everyone working there is friendly, one server goes above and beyond. their old menu kept me coming back, the ceviche & whole fish flavorful and fiery, so was surprised to see a new version. However they have a coursed set which of 4 or 6, which they accommodated to be pescatarian for us, which was just as delicious down to the indulgent but perfectly sized dessert. Highly recommend.
Unpretentious, inventive and evocative viet-french cuisine. The Dac Biet chef’s menu was 4 courses, $45, and left us stuffed. The charred peppers appeared in 2 courses — banana peppers stuffed with otak-otak and ground pork; habanera grown to only retain its floral aromas without the heat. The chicken broth kway-tiao beef noodle soup recalled both your mama’s broth and current millennial- bush wick lifestyle. Complimentary sparkling water and chatty wait staff sealed the deal.
Really flavorful and inventive food along with incredibly natural and attentive hospitality make this a must, if you’re interested in experiencing NY food of the moment.Highlights include a trip through the kitchen (if you’re dining in the greenhouse, which is recommended), the greenhouse itself (makeshift but pretty), really tasty ceviche, succulent pork shoulder, hard to eat but enjoyable duck neck, and an inventive drinks menu.
I found this place to be super cozy with great service and delicious food. One of my friends mentioned the Parisian vibe of the place and I couldnt agree more. Also, everything except fried items can be prepared gluten free (if it isnt already by default) so its a /great/ option for those of us who are celiacs or otherwise need to keep to a gf diet.
Pretentious service for mediocre food in a Bushwick industrial warehouse. The only person who smiled at us was the sweet food server who literally saved our date night with his smile. The owner was pushy with the wine, the server didnt offer any help and forced use to choose early. Ive been to many Michelin restaurants and this isnt one yet they act like they have 3.If you want $$$for ok food this is your spot bby!
The Pho dishes have their noodles cut so there is no slurping. Some might like this but to me it was heresy. The ginger chicken was very good but they never gave me a knife, so I had to use two forks to eat it.Overall food is very good but the preparation and utensils get in the way some.
Exceptional. Seriously outstanding food & fare. Truly an unexpected gem in deep brooklyn. Staff (owner) was great, atmosphere really cool inside, but tasteful, and has outside courtyard to dine in (where most were this eve) that is a gem. Outstanding food. Have i said that yet?? We tried a variety of dishesvand all were fabulous. Well done folks!!! Keep it up!!!
A hip hop soundtrack, mid-century vibes in the dining room, cheeky art, and not least of all innovative vietnamese cuisine. Whats not to like? The flavors could be sharper (looking at you charred cabbage) and the lighting dimmer to heighten the mood. Dads spring rolls, green curry and dads (hey dad!) fried rice were on point. A nice gesture was the chef making the rounds to talk to diners. Wed be down to hitting this spot again.
Dining in the living room of a loving home. The ambiance was truly delightful, and the outdoor seating on the patio would have been equally as nice. The service and food was excellent.Enjoyed the chefs tasting menu which they were nice enough/capable enough to accommodate my allergies and still serve a unique and abundant menu.I would add that the value on this meal was very high. We had dinner, dessert and wine [and appropriate tip for quality service amidst a pandemic] for a party of 6 at roughly $110 per person. We look forward to returning to enjoy another meal.
Did the tasting menu last night and everything was off the charts excellent. Each dish was equally phenomenal. The different seasonings and the taste of the food was terrific. I’m a foodie came in from Manhattan for this restaurant and I was blown away. I highly recommend this restaurant without a doubt. This is the first review I ever made, because this restaurant deserved a remarkable rating.
The best service ever! Literally everyone we came into contact to greeted us and was so warm and welcoming. The food was great and the aesthetics and ambience were nice, too. At some points the music may have been a bit loud (we were sitting outside) but other than that it was perfect. And the Marianella soap in the bathroom -- divine!
Came here after seeing all the positive reviews and media. But don’t be fooled, the food is really mediocre! We ordered the four-course tasting menu. Congee so salty it was practically inedible. Sticky rice with lamb (a play on 糯米糕, but much less flavourful and textural than the original). Extremely dry and tough duck. Tumeric pancake like eating raw flour. Seriously. What a terrible waste of money!
Friendly, elevated service, chic atmosphere and incredible food. We were accommodated as a walk in with a short wait on a bustling Friday night and ordered the Chef’s 4 course menu. The food and wine were exceptional and very reasonably priced. We left happy and full and will return soon to order all of the à la carte items we didn’t have room for the first time around.
Every part of this meal was AMAZING. You can really taste the quality of ingredients in each dish (grass fed beef, free range chicken etc. we ordered 5 dishes for our table of 2 to share, and each dish was bursting with flavor. The Chicken Heart Brulee was probably my favorite. Some may be scared away from the sound of it, but I urge anyone going here to try it if it’s available, you will not be disappointed. From an atmosphere perspective, very clean and personal feel like I was dining at someone’s home. The service was exceptional as well. Servers were very friendly and tentative, and food starting coming out no more than 10 minutes after we ordered. Great experience, will absolutely be back
* As a response to the owner comment :Right, after 15 min I received a call back from the same person who told me he can’t help that he was able to refund my order. Thank you, that is a nice plus.Second, to tell me that I implied that there’s only tofu is just a miss understood of your read. I specifically wrote about the fact that the protein portion in each soup was 3 pieces of small tofu.I hope you will take my review as a costumer that want to help and not just write a negative review from boredom and anger. We made a delivery and were very disappointed to see the amount of the broth they sent. In addition, we order two vegan Pho Chay that came with 3 small tofu pieces and zero flavor to the broth. When we called to ask to speak to the manager and ask for a refund the person on the phone told me there’s no manager and he have nothing toDo.I really hope you would upgrade the quality of vegan options.
This is one of the best restaurants around. I never thought Id be a self-proclaimed duck neck guy but here we are. There isnt a single bad thing on the menu, and Falansai is able to accommodate indoor and outdoor dining which is huge now.I go as close to weekly as I can swing. I cannot recommend this place highly enough.Gene and Eric are the hosts with the most and if you get the chance to chat them up I highly recommend
I had such a lovely experience!!!! The food, service, and atmosphere were all top notch - I never would have guessed they had just recently opened, everything ran very smooth. The chef came out at the end of the night and took time to chat with every table to thank us for coming out. Big thank you to Falansai, 10/10 will be back and will be raving to all my friends about this Bushwick gem!
I came here for the 1st time on my birthday and thought they must have known by the great hospitality. We ordered the eggplant which has an amazingly savoury sauce and the fermented sweet potato sticky rice. They gave us some of the green curry on the house which was amazing. The mushrooms in it are perfectly cooked. When ordering just keep in mind that the portions are on the smaller side, but considering the price and quality of the ingredients, its a good value. The koi pond, candles and heaters make the outdoor space comfortable even in late November. Made my night; Ill definitely come back.
Stopped by the restaurant after they recently re-opened for indoor dining under Chef Eric Tran. The menu you see on their website is mildly different vs the one you get in restaurant. I believe the main difference were the items that made more sense to serve in a sit-down situation vs takeout (like raw oysters and charcuterie). I know they had been serving takeout for awhile before they did indoor dining. For dinner on the evening, my friend and I opted in for the Chefs Tasting Menu to sample things vs ordering a la carte. Price-wise, this was an affordable for a tasting menu since it was $45pp for four-ish dishes. On the evening we got 6 total - 4 small plates and 2 which were designed to be shared. The BBQ eggplant dish we got this evening was definitely my favorite.Service-wise our plates came out at a good pace, as dinner lasted about 1.5hours.Overall the experience was solid, and the food superb. Definitely recommend coming here
My friend and I were the first dine-in (outdoors) guests after Falansai reopened with a new chef and owner. They treated us impeccably and the flavors were to die for. Incredibly friendly and generous people. I’ve always loved the old falansai but the new falansai also has my heart. Their outdoor patio with a rustic fish pond is such a sweet refuge too. Everything we ate was a joyous explosion of flavor.
Whomever was at the front — possibly the owner? — started eyeing me before I came in and their attitude was offputting for me, a visibly trans person who encounters a lot of harassment (see my many other reviews). I got the chicken pho because it had been recommended to me by someone as gluten free. I felt uncomfortable after ordering and went outside; I was told if I waited outside the food would be brought to me.While I was outside I got harassed, so I came in, prompting an audible reaction to say the food wasn’t ready yet (which was not the reason I came inside). The food came shortly thereafter and I didn’t feel safe enough to ask to wait a bit or for someone to meet me, so I left, and got followed for almost a mile by someone. In the rain. The brown paper bag broke as I ran away, so I carried it between my hand and chin. But at least it was intact… When I came home I discovered it included a piece of fried chicken, which I do not recall seeing listed on the menu. I called and was told it was gluten free, asked for clarification *and only then* learned it is not fried in a dedicated fryer. My money will be refunded, hopefully, but after I was rebuked for being rebuked for not saying I have celiac, which was profoundly insensitive. I told him as a visibly trans person I don’t do anything to call more attention to myself; what I didn’t say was that I already felt ill at ease, and that his behavior had contributed to that. The phone call was really condescending and insensitive. I didn’t feel respected in the least.Don’t say something’s gluten free if it’s not. If it’s cross contaminated, leave a note about that like everyone else does, and maybe even mention it when ordering… like most places do. Why would anyone think it’s fair to assume whether someone does or doesn’t have a food sensitivity? Just treat everyone like they might. Maybe some people aren’t comfortable saying it based on past confrontations (I’ve been tossed out of places more times than I can count for mentioning my dietary restrictions; one involved law enforcement, I kid you not). Not everybody has the privilege of acting like a cis dude! I was honestly shocked by this person’s behavior, although I’ve experienced worse, also in north Brooklyn.Hopefully the refund comes through. What a disappointment. And really unexpected for the neighborhood.
A very modern take on classic Vietnamese food. Dont expect to find pho or bahn-mi here, but youll be wowed by the fried rice or the pork belly. Only complaint is that the service is very slow and inconsistent, which is such a shame compared to such excellent kitchen staff.
The food here was absolutely delicious and the service was really kind and helpful! The ambiance was everything I could have hoped for. The one thing I will say was that the movie playing was super distracting and odd and unnecessary. The intimate beautiful setting is enough on its own! Also some of our plates could have been bussed better. But overall I adored my experience here and definitely hope to come back!!
This place is in the middle of nowhere (youre going to think youve taken a wrong turn - you havent!), but its so worth the detour. We had two variations of the globetrotter pho. My friend got the mole, which was amazing! I got a spicy peanut one that tasted mostly like pad thai, which was also good. I thought the mole had more depth and was a more interesting combination. We had no difficulty getting a table and service was good. Id definitely be back to try more options!
The calming atmosphere and friendly service leads to these traditional Vietnamese dishes that have the best flavors, both fresh and decadent. I feel like I’ve found the comfort of my mother’s home right around the corner. My current favorite is the catfish clay pot!If you’re lucky to catch nice weather, the patio is magic
This place is absolutely fantastic! The food is delicious, my favorite is the beef pho with aji seasoning. The dishes blend authentic Vietnamese cuisine with flavors from all over the world. The atmosphere is also terrific, and the backyard patio is a must see when its open for warm weather. My server, Amanda, was knowledgeable, helpful and so friendly! And the owner, Henry goes above and beyond to keep his customers happy. A must dine if you find yourself in the East Williamsburg area.
Delicious! Brunch is awesome!! Cocktails are light and refreshing. Came here alone, had the mushroom and beets crepe. So good! Can easily see myself coming back with friends or to relax at the bar. Def am oasis in the middle of bushwick. Love this place! Great staff, great vibes.
Delicious and authentic Vietnamese food! I have eaten here a lot over the years and it is one of my favorite restaurants! Everything they have is delicious! I highly recommend the autumn rolls, tofu banh mi, the Kung pao calamari, you really can’t go wrong. Chef Henry is the best! Lots of vegetarian options and almost everything is or can be made gluten free.
We were a party of seven. So we ordered almost everything on the menu.I got to taste it all. The combination of the ingredients of each dish sounds brilliant. So its difficult to pull it off entirely. I would say that 55% of the dishes were in the 5 star category. The service 5 stars. The ambience, easy relaxed and very cooool. Loved it
Its very rarely that I have a craving for a particular restaurant but Falansai is definitely one of the few that I crave. Shaken beef is amazing. Subtle , flavorful and so so tender. The eggplant is good and the shrimp and okra are tasty. Its also has a lovely backyard with a small fish pond that I love
This place is in my hood. Come here often for their autumn beet rolls and pho. They got beef, chicken, seafood and vegan. My go-tos are the beef and chicken. They dont use MSG so if you are not used to that, you could add one of their globetrotter sauces. My favorite is the curry coconut sauce.
Ive been to Falansai many times. I like the food a lot. The service can be very spotty though. Sometimes its smooth and courteous, other times the staff seems overwhelmed. Its not a great place for large parties. You may face a long wait if the place is crowded. On the plus side, the coffee is outstanding.
I ordered a takeaway Pho Ga from Falansai based on the 4.6 star Google review and couldn’t believe what was delivered. A sprinkle of chicken and minimal garnishings combined with the most tasteless broth I’ve ever had. Not to mention the inauthentic red onion thrown in that I can’t say I’ve ever had in a pho. Being half Vietnamese, I’ve had my fair share of pho and this is the worst I’ve ever had in NY. What a waste of $13. Just avoid and make the trip to Madame Vo!
This was my second time at Falansai and honestly the first time is was alright but this time I was much more impressed, we got the imperial rolls which were great and well as the pork belly and the vegetable combo which included 3 different vegetable dishes all of which were good.
We were walking by and found this beautiful restaurant. It is outside and most tables are under a canopy, but we sat under the stars. The food was great. The waitress was nice, but not super helpful. I have never had vietnamese and she didnt seem to want to recommend anything.I would def. go back to explore the menu.
Had several great meals there, all take out, mix of vegetarian and pork bahn mi sandwiches, during lunch and weekday dinner hours, all were excellent. I took my wife and sister-in law there for dinner on a saturday night and the service and food were sub par. The waitress was inexperienced and over worked, forgot my drink order, brought the wrong pho order, forgot all of the sauces for the pho and had to be asked twice for just about everything. The pork belly was ok, and the eggplant was barely edible, not cooked nearly enough. It was a huge disappointment! So I guess I would recommend not going there on a Saturday night and sticking to the vegetarian dishes or pork bahn mi. Was a huge let down!
Best Vietnamese food! Really great food with lots of options and variety. The outside seating area is beautiful with a fish pond and nice atmosphere, and the inside is such a nice place to sit and enjoy the great food! They do food to go as well, and its all delicious!
Very pleasant outdoor area. Food was mediocre-- over salted, heavy, too robust, with a hint of some unnatural sweetner that i couldnt get past. Maybe i just like fresher, herbier, more acidic flavors, but the balance seemed so off. Service was also lovely. This was a nice place to sit outside but dont expect stellar food.
Middling Vietnamese food in a nicely decorated environment. Having spent a good amount of time in Vietnam over the past five years, Im not very impressed with the one dimensional flavors here. The vegetable dishes are uninspired and flat, the two bun dishes Ive tried during separate visits were lackluster and the bo luc lac, while comprised of nice, tender cuts of tenderloin are overly salty when dipped in the side sauce and just not very flavorful on their own. The bahn mi is only on the lunch menu but looked promising. Its an okay spot but definitely not a top tier Vietnamese place even for NYC (which traditionally has suffered poor Vietnamese attempts other than the solid bahn mi spots in some areas of the city). If I do return Id try the pho or bahn mi but Im all set with the rest of the menu.
My favorite Vietnamese restaurant to go for comfort food. They have killer imperial rolls. My favorite brunch dish is a vegan Vietnamese crepe with beets and mushrooms. Had the crab and glass noodle and Kung pao calamari for dinner. Lovely backyard with pond and mural.
Favorite restaurant in Bushwick by far! Portions are quite sizeable for the pricing and the restaurant ambiance is great. Tried the vegan summer and autumn roll and the vegetable dishes with rice for dinner and everything was amazing. Waitstaff was very attentive and nice as well!
Had pork roll for app and Pho Ga (chicken pho) for main. Both are really good and definitely not false advertising when they said they dont use MSG - doesnt taste any MSG at all! :D Chicken in Pho Ga is so smooth so tender so juicy, I dont think Ive had chicken this good before.Overall, for a $11 bowl, this feels you up like nothing else. I was so full and happy by the end (already had like 3 pork rolls at the beginning and 2 33 beers from Vietnam at this point).
Have been coming for years- falansai is becoming an fixture of bushwick foodie culture. The beef pho is rich and deep, the chicken is light and delicate. Their fried imperial spring rolls are finger licking good. The staff is friendly and the atmosphere is relaxing. My friend said they just started doing brunch- I saw a picture of crispy pork belly on coconut milk grits, looked soooo good!!!
Really good neighbored, chill and quiet, No noise nor anybody bothering around. Now, focusing on the food, Its amazing, pretty good tastes, and great atmosphere. They usually put Flamenco videos from Paco de Lucia among other great icons from the Flamenco culture. Definitely a place that i would bring Guests.
I first stepped into Bunker (pho restaurant nearby) just to find a $17 pho. Never in my life did I hear of pho that expensive!! So I found Falansai right nearby by and wow it was amazing!! 12$ is a just price for pho and the broth is amazing! Spring rolls were also fantastic and made with love. Great atmosphere too, will definitely come again!
Looking for great Vietnamese food in New York City? Head to Falansai, an underrated Bushwick gem. With a friendly staff and relaxed vibe, Falansai is my go-to for catching up with friends. In the summer, the open-air garden dining by the koi pond is a charming refuge from the New York City heat. In the cooler months, the dining room is warm and welcoming with vintage and sci-fi movies projected on one of the walls for a quirky effect. As for the food, the cassava fritters were fresh, flavorful, and not at all oily. The beet and avocado filled autumn rolls offered a tasty, Instagram-worthy twist on a classic spring roll. The crispy lotus root entrée with zingy tamarind sauce was delicious as was the rich crab and glass noodle stir-fry. I also recommend the globetrotter pho options, which are unlike any other pho youll try at other Vietnamese joints. Although I am a pho traditionalist, I could not pass up the Mexican mole poblano sauce or the Peruvian version with queso fresco! If you arent stuffed from all this fabulous food, the eclectic dessert wine menu is a great end to a meal.Best of all, Falansais menu is locally sourced, MSG-free, and vegan/vegetarian friendly. If you arent familiar with the neighborhood, there are a number of fun bars and clubs nearby, located a short walk, roughly 10-minute walk from Falansai. If you stop by for lunch, definitely check out the neighborhood art galleries!
The dishes at Falansai exceeded my expectations, and I am from Seattle where there is amazing Vietnamese food. My favorites: lotus root with a tamarind sauce....eggplant, okra, a crab/noodle dish.Plus its in Bushwick, an art show all over.Wish we could have eaten outside in the garden...next time.
I have no idea how this place have such high rating. If you are looking for Vietnamese food, avoid this place at all cost. The pho was so bad (broth was bland, pho was not fresh, lack essential condiments for pho), my family and I have to go to a second restaurant for lunch after we already paid for our food here. Plus, the menu option is small and not authentic. Such a disappointment!
Pho, like most other noodle soups, is heavily, if not solely defined by the quality of its broth. Noodles, meats and other accompaniments should be fully considered, but it is the broth that truly makes any noodle soup great. As a first-timer at Falansai I ordered the pho bo. I was excited to find that they offered a variety of different pho with regional flavors and variations, but first I wanted to try their regular beef soup to really see what it was all about. The broth here, which serves as the backbone for many of their other soups, was not impressive. It was murky in appearance and not clear as pho broth should be. Possibly from the bottom of the pot? It did not have a strong beef flavor either. Perhaps they were short on beef bones that day. The other spices were also late to the party. Important flavors such as coriander and anise were dim amongst a much more intense onion flavor. The broth was also not nearly salty enough, though this may simply be my own personal preference. I know the restaurant states that they do not use MSG in their pho, which I think is great, and Im sure this reduced the saltiness and savory flavor of the broth considerably. However, a bit more salt or fish sauce would have been appropriate. Pho is supposed to be salty. Generally, pho broth is salty enough to begin with, yet many people still choose to add in globs of hoisen, sriracha, and fish sauce. It is certainly possible that the flavor of the broth has been adjusted to appease local palettes, which may also explain the lack of chilis on the garnish plate. But then again, Ive had plenty of pho at non-local spots that have been much better.Additionally, there was not nearly enough broth in my bowl to begin with. Theres a reason those bowls are so big. Youve gotta fill those things up the way they were meant to. If Im going to pay $11 or more for noodle soup I want a BIG ASS bowl of soup. To me, enjoying pho is a holistic experience. Its about having an intimidatingly large bowl of soup in front of you, slowly slurping delicious, boiling hot broth for the first 5 minutes, then completely filling your belly with salty, beefy goodness while contemplating towards the end whether or not you can or even should finish the rest. Of course, you always do finish. Its your duty.I will say that the meat in the soup was very good. The flank was served rare (actually) and tasted very fresh. There was brisket as well which was very good, tender and beefy. The service was good and the food came out in a hurry. They also had 33 lager from Vietnam, which was cool. Most other Vietnamese places dont even have that.Anyways, maybe todays broth was a fluke. Next time, more beef bones, more spice, more salt/fish sauce, and MORE BROTH! Im excited to try some of the other items with my next visit, which seem to be getting more praise anyways, so that may change my opinion later on. But Im first and foremost a sucker for good pho.
The food was great and the prices were very reasonable, especially for Brooklyn. The atmosphere was quiet and intimate. The restaurant wasnt crowded, but the staff still seemed a little overwhelmed and service was slow for it. Also, there is no dessert... so that brought a twinge of disappointment at the end of our meal.
Hidden gem. Soulful Vietnamese Cuisine - devoid of lazy clichés. Be prepared to eat thoughtful food, get unobtrusive service, see the owner cooking or serving or chatting with neighbors. Must have dishes: chicken pho, crab & glass noodles, green beans, ginger chicken, lotus roots. In the summer, sit in garden near lily pad filled fountain. Run/Jump/Skip, dont walk, to Falansai.
Keep Away. Horrible stale food served here. Watchout for hair, i found a few in my food.10/11/2015: Owner@Falansai I find this response from you offensive whether the review is posted by someone with beard or not should not matter . The food that day was horrible and being busy is no excuse for it.I went to your restaurant because of good rating only to find the food of very low quality and inedible. Keep away keep away....

2022-02-05Very interesting and delicious food! We got the 6-ish course prix fixe. I will suggest not ordering this if youre not a fan of fish. I know the dishes change but I assume this is a relatively common theme. Every dish was unique with an interesting array of flavors. It also came with a dessert which was fantastic. Would definitely recommend.

2022-06-07One of the better restaurants in NYC for a while. Its an interesting Vietnamese fusion with clean and distinct taste and great service. My favourites were tuna rice cracker and duck necks among the smaller dishes and for the larger ones the mackerel in curry and pork with rice and egg were divine. They also have a great selection of wines and the decor is super cool.Definitely one of the nicer Bushwick places at the moment

2022-05-08Run don’t walk to Falansai! The tasting menu was hit after hit after hit. The Vietnamese Mexican fusion of flavors, all the different side sauces and pickled veg… ah incredible. I could not stop gushing over the food. We loved our server and the wine pairings. The restaurant’s vibe is that perfect laid back brooklyn vibe with artistic flair and great lighting. My favorite culinary experience this year.

2022-03-19I ate at Falansai in March of 2022 in the garden room. We ordered the four course tasting menu which was the perfect size! The highlight of the meal was the fish with green curry; it was absolutely delicious, a perfect balance of heat and sweetness, and the fish and accompanying veggies cooked to perfection! The dessert was also delicious (with some wonderful ice cream). The staff was lovely as well. Next time, I would definitely consider ordering off the A La Carte menu...there were some very enticing dishes. I would highly recommend making the trip to try this delicious food; it is a great meal at an awesome price with fresh ingredients!

2022-03-02I came here on a Friday night to dine alone and I was taken care of so well. Staff was lovely and the 4 course meal was the perfect amount of food and left me surprised with the medley of flavors and textures. All in all I spent $100 on the 4 courses, two glasses of wine and tip. Worth every penny and I think I got a great deal. Can’t wait to come back.I LOVED the grilled scallops and persimmon mole. And the dessert was to die for: coconut chia pudding with jackfruit. The tostada with fish was 🥰

2022-07-16Easiest 5-star rating I’ve given in awhile. Falansai is an incredible modern vietnamese/south east asian restaurant that really pushes the boundaries of what one would consider vietnamese cuisine, in the best way possible. To get the full experience, go with a group and order the dac biet feast. Its an incredible deal (about $80pp for 5-6 courses) and comes as an absolute unit of a tasting menu. Highlights were a wonderfully balanced spicy coconut curry accompanying a perfectly fried black bass, and a grilled vietnamese pork chop that was pretty life-changing. The spring roll vermicelli salad was no chump either. Everything was brought up a notch or two by the excellent chili fish sauces and pickles that just kept coming. Solid selection of natural wines as well, and the only regret is that i didnt get to try the cocktails which looked good. Cool patio in the back for warm summer nights.

2022-07-02Great flavors, great ambiance, great service! I love the intense flavors of the food but the dishes may taste better when consumed with alcohol.I ordered from the a la carte menu.Green curry: oh so flavorful! Love the evocation of a lotus 🪷 pond in the representation. Included rice is cooked perfectly ( is this such a tall order for the majority of supposedly good restaurants?!)Refreshing pickles ordered separately.Lamb skewers were magnificent!Confit duck necks are intensely flavorful and the meat is truly tender fall-off-the-bone (As advertized!). Need more zesty acid or accompanying alcoholic drink to unlock full potential.Coconut pudding dessert with shaved hibiscus ice and jackfruit, great, refreshing but not too illuminating.

2022-04-10Great meal here. Put a small note with the reservation about my pescatarian partner who I was taking here for a birthday. Fantastic meal. They did a full tasting menu for us — hers pescatarian. And not once did the more restrictive diet mean she got a less exciting course. This place is special. And the service is outstanding while being casual/fun. Highly recommend. Best dining experience of 2022 thus far for us.Ninja Turtle Art and collectibles were bonus 😂😂

2021-08-22I thought I came to a friend’s living room when I arrived Falansai. The indoor space is elegant yet cozy. We walked through the kitchen and entered into this tropical backyard decorated with thatch, graffiti and lotus pond, which all integrate very well. The dishes were exquisite, innovative and full of flavors. The green curry is spicy, citrusy and creamy, which made the seasonal vegetables extraordinarily tasty. The pork shoulder was grilled and glazed perfectly. Overall the dishes were on a bit salty for me, but the sparkling water was complimentary:) The last but not the least, the service was phenomenal!
