FDNY in other cities:
Do you have kids who think fire trucks are cool? Do you secretly want to be a firefighter? Do you want to learn about fire safety? Do you like supporting local institutions? Then you should visit.Inside is: a fire truck, cut down to fit the space but fun to sit inside and see the different parts. A wall full of firefighting equipment and patches from various firefighting units. A room for fire safety demonstrations that looks like a burned out tenement. A gift shop with lots of toys and t shirts.A visit on a weekday morning meant the space was blissfully empty and I spent about an hour and a half playing and perusing. The space is FREE and predominately does field trips to teach fire safety, so I would steer clear during school trips. The fire zone is run by retired firefighters and donations. Great for locals, tourists, and every kid who has ever marveled at a big red truck.
An amazing experience. There are retired firefighters that teach classes to children. All purchases go back into the store to help fund classes. Firefighters and staff were very friendly. Plenty of awesome fire fighter gear and patches on the walls. They have half a fire truck in the store as well. Very much worth a visit.
Tiny education center. Worthwhile visiting. Especially with kids. They have a nice multi media center where they educate children with fire safety. My kids loved it. My smallest was afraid of fire and alarms. Now she has overcome her fear by the story of the retired firefighter who explained the importance of the fire alarms. She also has the feeling that she knows what to do in case of fire.
A nice museum-like space where you can see actual FDNY equipment. Great for young kids because there is a replica fire engine they can drive. When we went, a retired firefighter was on duty and available to answer questions about the FDNY. There is also a small gift shop area in the back.
A MUST SEE for anyone remotely interested in the fire service or FDNY! Staffed by former FDNY members, they give fire safety classes and have a great selection of buff supplies like Code3 models, sweatshirts, tees and much more. They have actual firefighter gear to check out and a real fire engine you can climb on and sit in. Its a blast! Im on the job and took my own kids there and my cub scouts as well.
Nice place to visit and see some history as well as equipment of the FDNY. The staff was not very friendly when we were there and seemed like we were bothering them when asking questions, which is odd given that the entire purpose of the location is education. Perhaps they were having a bad day. Nonetheless, we are glad we visited and would recommend it.
We were in NYC as part of our sons Make-A-Wish trip. After visiting a firehouse the day before he was wearing a unit hat from the house when we visited the FDNY Fire Zone. A wonderful firefighter doing education that day noticed our sons hat and after talking a bit gave our son the hat off his head. Wonderful
Visited this store today to buy t shirts for my kids while on holiday.. I’ve given it 2 stars due to the attitudes of the people working there..The items for sale are great but as a uk fire fighter of 18 years I was disappointed to be met with staff who made us feel like it was a major inconvenience for us to be in the shop. The man on duty who was a serving firefighter was more interested in getting back on his phone than any general chat about his job. He may have been having a bad day but as a rep of the hugely respected fdny, a little inthusiasim would go a long way... even if fake. Really took the shine of my afternoon. I’ve met a few fdny this week and they have been great.
Excellent place for fans, for children, for those who are firefighters, paramedics, rescuers or are part of relief groups, you can find clothes (for adults and for children), toys for children, souvenirs such as mugs, key chains, patches with the shields of the fire companies of the city of New York
A sensational store with a variety of Fire Department-licensed New York products, apparel, small equipment, various toys, and fire-themed collectibles. The place has a mini fire truck for leisure and pictures of the children. The day I went there was a school trip from a local school, the children were sitting on the floor in front of a panel with various fire brigade stickers. Suddenly the panel rises and white smoke starts to come out underneath the panel, which actually turned out to be the garage gate. The children scream, but it is actually a cinematic smoke and the gate reveals a scenographic room simulating the interior of a burnt-out house, the children get up and are guided on an inside tour and the door closes.A show.

2021-10-16Modifications/ improvements have been done since our last visit, 2 years ago. The retired firefighters are always kind to the little kids and do an excellent job explaining and answering the kids questions. Definitely the place to have the fire safety conversation started.

2019-04-21Wife of a firefighter so we had to stop here while In the city. The shop was cool, but it was the gentleman that really made it great. He was extremely nice, and we chatted for about 10 minutes. Even asked if we had kids/nieces or nephews to give colouring books to. I will say the lady at the checkout was clearly annoyed to be there and dealing with people but didn’t let that stop the experience. Purchased two sweaters and they came with nice reusable bags. We will for sure be going back when they open the new location!
