Fun This is a great place if you love live Blues and love to drink hard booze. The band on Friday nights is awesome. Tables are close to the stage but it is not too loud. They offer 700 booze lockers so you can buy a bottle and store it there if you do not finish it. Each locker can hold up to 10 bottles or more. The food is great in some parts of the menu but could be a bit better in other parts. The cheese board, meat board or combo board were fantastic. Drinkers will love this too. We had the combo board (photo attached) and it was spectacular. The crab cake app was also great. It is fried but very good and comes with some nice sides on the plate as well. Very good. We split the tomahawk steak. Ive had better but this was fine. I would probably opt for something else next time. It did include 2 sides for free. She got the mashed potatoes which she loved. I got the fries and they were limp. I prefer the thinner firmer fries so not my cup of tea. The deserts were marvelous. All in all a great evening and so much fun to go to a place with live music. If you have 4 or more be sure to reserve one of the HUGE booths up high in the back. They have a great view of the stage and make a great place for a group to all eat together and all have a perfect view of the stage because it is a semi circle booth. 5 star experience for sure. Check out all of our reviews. If we do not like it we do no review it so all of the ones you see are places that are fantastic. Follow us if you like. We had over 7 million views in 2021 and we thank you for that. We dont get paid, we just love to eat. This spot is a gem! Fantastic selection of spirits and good food to pair with it. The service here is excellent and the ambiance is top notch along with the great live music. You can never go wrong coming here. I always look forward to coming back to Fine and Rare and always have a great experience. My most recent visit, brought my friend and his wife here for their first time and they absolutely loved everything here.Make a reservation as tables fill up quickly. You wont regret coming here
Live music we had the evening we went was from 1910s-1920s. It was great. The presentation of the food was great. However, the taste of almost every dish we had was extremely underwhelming. The trout was cooked beautifully. The skin was crispy, but it needed salt badly. Portions were small, too. Did not enjoy the food overall. It could just be because it was restaurant week, but you figure restaurant week is when restaurants would put forward their best to attract new customers. I’ll try it one more time for regular meals, but if it’s the same experience, I will not return.
Absolutely amazing restaurant to go to. The quality, ambiance and the customer service was definitely well worth the visit. There was also a live band performing but they actually have a live band every evening for those of you who may not know. Everything was professional and they took time in detailing things from the menu that you did not understand. The food was also very amazing!! We will be back soon. Also if you buy a bottle, they will save it for you the next time you come back. Thank you Fine & Rare for giving us such an amazing experience!
Food - 3/5 not the best. For the price you are paying youd expect excellent quality food.Drinks - 3/5 there is a lot of hype about the smoked bourbon but in reality after 30 seconds the smoke is gone and you have a regular old fashioned.Dessert - 4/5 - we ordered the sphere, it was pretty good however a lot of excessive chocolate sauce.Service - 5/5 they were attentive and everything came out relatively quickly.Overall It was a nice experience but would not come again only because the food was ok.
A nice place for dinner, cocktail, while enjoy live jazz.Recommend for dates and small groups. You can get better food at other restaurants, bigger name jazz musicians at jazz clubs, and more spot on cocktails from speakeasies. But Fine & Rare managed to get all these and did a decent job. My personal experience: cocktail was spot on, presentation could be better; steak was slightly over cooked, not bad enough that request to be send back. But bothered me enough to complain. The table setup is for diners, so some of the diners will have the seats that’s back to the stage instead of facing.
I really liked the 1960s music that the singer was singing on stage. I also liked the way you get your orders and other stuff. The main problem was that I got sick from the food and the pasta they served me looked like trash. One of things they can do to improve the restaurant experience is having better food. They should also STOP serving bread with olive oil its disgusting an unpractical but, everything else was ok
Always a wonderful experience. The food music and cocktails never disappoint. The staff is always friendly and accommodating. A drink I always get is not on the limited menu so Jose the bartender made it specially for me and went out if his way to find the glass dome to trap the smoke which is what they were missing to make it. I was very happy and as always the cocktail was amazing!
Had dinner here last night and really enjoyed it. The service was very friendly, ambiance was great too. We loved the cocktails (ideal husband was my favorite), and their burger was delicious. They also have this awesome, very instagrammable dessert - the sphere. Totally recommend dining here.
I highly recommend going on a Friday night 5:30-8:30pm to hear a jazz trio featuring the impressively talented singer Lizze Stein. Food tasted amazing! For the all vegan options, I recommend the refreshing zucchini salad, the scrumptious fettuccini with vegetables, and the tart and floral Bergamot and verbana (!) sorbet. Even the bread is uniquely fluffy and has poppy seeds! There is an Intimidating variety of whisky options, though I got a lovely Riesling wine. The service was professional and competent, and overall ambiance, classy and cool.
Food was okay. Music was okay. Service was also okay. Most of the customers are probably tourists. Tables are closely packed near each other which is quite awkward if you want to have a conversation with your party. And when the food arrives it feels like you’re eating with the table next to you.
Went on Mothers Day 2022. Nice staff, good service being that it was crowded. Food was ok but not great. Had a runny lump crab omelet. The cerviche app was good. The vegan tirametsu was not good. The coffee was meh and the band, while very skilled, played music from before WW One which I bet was their thing but perhaps not mine. Expensive, yes Mothers Day, but generally underwhelming. I guess I should go for an overpriced dinner so I can compare.
The best seating , I think, by the fireplace) that would complete an amazing atmosphere of live jazz , great drinks and service this place provides!Check their drink menu! Whiskey lovers , that would be a paradise for you! Few lists dedicated to whiskey only ))Plus, we’ve been told , that you can buy a bottle , and it’ll be reserve for you. So, you can come back and enjoy this bottle later. That’s amazing !I saw at least three ladders that waiters use to climb at the top of the bars) so , I guess, there d be always a secure place for your bottle )The drinks are delicious, and waiters provide you with accurate information about them.Jazz program is always different. Check their web site for the schedule.Food is good, as well. We had sea bass and truffle risotto ( although , you can have it without truffles , or clams could be added. Up to you).Octopus appetizer served in a really nice way.Definitely try their peach gelato, or chocolate ice cream for desert ! Amazing !And ! Be careful with your reservation. I’ve been told not just once , that they wait just 15 min , and then can give your table somebody else.Enjoy!
Live jazz music and great food and good drinks menu. What do you say?! Been here twice and had a good time every time. Came here for the summer restaurant week recently and it was an amazing experience. Had pan seared scallops, pork chop, and creme brûlée. The creme brûlée was addictive! Definitely a good date spot. 😉
This place is quite the hidden gem. The live music is performed at the perfect volume for listening and conversation. The acts change several times throughout the night allowing for variety. There is a little wait for drinks, but well worth it as they are finely crafted cocktails. The staff is extremely knowledgeable from cheese pairings to bourbon. The service is so on point, youll feel like the only table there .
I was very pleasantly surprised by this restaurant. I came in on a whim for restaurant week. There wasnt a table available but there was a bar/counter option.I took the counter. Its not the most comfortable seating, but very charming nonetheless. The decor was great and so was the ambiance. The service is very good. The food was very well prepared and to top it off there were live jazz performances.
This is a very nice place, well decorated. Very large selection of spirits. The service was ok, expected more attention. My steak was overcooked and had to be replaced they did replace the steak quickly. Cocktails were good. Decert the spehere was very interesting to say the least, thou very sweet. The live music was quite nice, it makes the experience that much better...
Food and drinks were great, but we found the service to be curt. I expected warmer hospitality given the price point. We were celebrating our wedding (just the 2 of us) and we were seated in the back corner with no view of the stage and with no mention of our special occasion (which we were asked when we made the reservation). I would recommend a visit for the music and drinks, but I would not recommend for celebrating a special event.
When I dine out there are 3 things I am looking for, Ambiance, quality food, and libations. I was in the city for Thanksgiving and had made reservations prior to, so my expectations were building for quite some time. 5 5 5 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️. 5 for ambiance. The lighting, the dinning set, and tables all were upscale and comfortable. The live music with vocal accompaniment was outstanding. It all came together to make for a festive and relaxing evening. 5 for the meal. This was the best meal I have ever had. Everything was cooked to perfection. 5 for the drinks. The selection of drinks, bourbon, and wine were tops and as the name says, rare. The name says it all. It is truly Fine & Rare. The best dinning experience I have had in my life.
Took my fiance here for his birthday. I made sure to ask the day before to accommodate, which they said they would provide a cake. First off, Id like to mention that the staff was incredibly nice, and the food was delicious. I called to mention day before about bday. I had to sneak off to find the manager who definitely accommodated after being sent the dessert menu. Normally once confirmed, a nice restaurant would accommodate special occasion without mention. I just wish i didnt have to leave abruptly to check and im an awful liar in addition to sitting completely behind the band. It wasnt an awful experience, and the price wasnt all too bad, but will probably be the last time we will be coming here.
I hardly write negative reviews… if you’re visiting and looking for something special, Go elsewhere, not worth it. My experience, said it was my girlfriends birthday and our first dinner while visiting nyc. I do not think they cared at all. Did nothing special, even at minimum seat us somewhere better, especially when there were better seats options available. Oh, and came for the music but ended at 830. So only had 30 minutes of live music. Found that a bit interesting especially when calling yourself a “jazz bar”. Food was good, main entrée chicken wasn’t that great though. Green salad and cheese board was delicious. Would’ve ordered more to drink but took way too long for server to notice. At that point was ready to leave. Also would’ve had desert but wasn’t happy with experience at that point and was ready to leave. Was there all an hour and spent near $200. Again, being in town and celebrating girlfriends birthday, you want to be where you feel good to celebrate and spend money. I guess they didn’t care about our business. Overall not worth the value or experience, especially when visiting in town and there being many more restaurant options available.
This place fills a niche for people looking to have a refined evening dinner and drinks in an elegant place. It has a very large selection of whiskey from different countries and you can buy it by the bottle, carafe, or glass depending on the whiskey. They had a live band playing tasteful music. The food was good, and albeit appropriately based on the venue was priced on the expensive side. There was a surprising lack of desire to seat a group of people who came in afterwards. There were plenty of open seats at the bar and in the restaurant and they were dressed in suits but the staff tried to make them just have drinks in the lobby area up front for some odd reason.
Booked this on the recommendation of some reviews and am pleased to say I wasn’t disappointed. Food was excellent as were the drinks. On the night I went there was a stunning singer on which only made the evening even better. A real gem in New York, well worth a visit
I guess its a fun tourist spot? Super overpriced- like one steak was $135 when it should probably have been $60. The jazz band is nice but its too crowded and too loud. Def not a date night spot, more of a showoff spot for guests or like, a company dinner flexing money. The dessert sphere is the only reason its higher stars and even THAT had paper left around the brownie.
Fine & Rare delivers its promise. The lighting is perfect, and it has a library of whiskeys - and when I say library, I mean over 600. The jazz was a perfect volume and the talent had us feeling like we were right back in the 1940s, even on a Monday. Their Old Fashion even tickled Don Drapers palette with its reveal of smoked rosemary erupting over the rim of a particular stemmed glass. I would highly recommend this cozy, romantic, upscale restaurant with hard-to-find spirits for any occasion. And if you are a bourbon connoisseur, this might be heaven.
I loved the ambience. Food is decent. It is definetly good for a special occasion .There was a live performance of old american style.... Not bad.We were a party of 2, and ordered large seafood tower and fries.Large seafood tower might be good portion for somebody, or it could be too large for somebody...It totally depends on your appetite.Personally it was too much to enjoy each peaces . Id prefer to enjoy small amount without preassure.Want to come back to try entrees.
We came for the music and a couple of cocktails and were not disappointed. There is a great vibe. Its well appointed but not pretentious. The staff is warm and welcoming. The decor embodies their love of spirits with amber bottles filling the walls. I must give a shout out to our server, Jazz who is a recent transplant from my native California and made our evening just that much better. Absolutely recommend for a lovely, relaxing jazz evening.
Visited this bar on a whim with my mom. We were a little under dressed, but the staff made us feel very welcome. We sat at the bar (the place was booked up) and made friendly with the bartender. Listened to incredibly talented musicians and singers perform jazz on a beautiful stage. The cocktails and food were ammmaazinnnggg. Nothing bad to say about this place.
What a wonderful find in the heart of midtown. Only a few blocks from Times Square, a throwback to places gone by. The food was fantastic. The live jazz music performed by professional musicians gave an ambiance that made for super evening. The establishment itself has an aura and charm that only NYC can muster. Even in the waning time of the global pandemic we were treated to an amazing evening. One hint, if you are going for the food, you can sit outside in their classy outdoor seating area. But if you really want to enjoy the music and the entire “Fine and Rare” experience, ask to sit inside. Trust me, you will love it.
I had such a lovely time here. The service was quick and enjoyable. Our server was attentive but not overly so. Highly recommend coming when there is live music playing because the performance is so beautiful. Seriously, the voice of a very smooth angel combined with some very cool instrumentals makes for a very good time. The setting was soft and romantic and I hope Im able to come back sooner than later. The cocktials while small in size were very tasty and absolute beautiful to look at.
My fiance brought me here for some birthday dinner and jazz. The atmosphere was intimate and fun at the same time. Food was pretty good, but the drinks were even better. I usually like liquor neat, but the cocktail list looked so interesting, we ended up starting with a few rounds of them. The smokey old fashioned, Oaxaca, and take me back to Tulum spoke to us, but Im sure that theyre all good.
After seeing so many amazing reviews, I was excited to reserve a table here & celebrate my first year marriage anniversary. Unfortunately, our experience wasn’t the best. I can however mention the hostess , Maddie, she was complete a sweetheart. As well as our server, she was super sweet and apologetic of the incident we experienced. We made a reservation for 1pm, so we got there 15 mins prior. We didn’t get seated until 1:10pm.As you can see we were in a cerebral mood that day, hence the 6 different drinks. Clearly we wanted to have a good time. The ambiance was romantic, and they had a live jazz band playing music from the 1920-1940s. It was super cute !The wait time for the food was catastrophic, we waited exactly 1 hour and 13 mins to be served. It was during brunch and it wasn’t even busy. Luckily, the drinks were strong enough to help us forget about the long wait. We ordered steak and eggs and eggs Benedict with salmon. So it wasn’t a tricky dish to prepare. Not sure if I could recommend the place, drinks were over priced and the food was good but it was also over priced and the portion was very small .. compared to other brunch dishes.
Great food! 🍽 great music! I thoroughly love its audience and enjoy bringing music to this beautiful venue! I love everything about it.. Staff, great sound system, beautiful stage..everything! Im looking forward to returning again 🎶+ERecording Artist-Edwin Vazquez Musica
The food and drinks are good but the tables are literally 1 feet away from each other. We asked for a high chair and they tried to squeeze in one in that 1 feet. Our kid was almost on the neighbors table. They had a few table left with a little bit extra space on the corridor side and when I “requested” to move us on one of those, they made it look like this is something they never do and doing us a favor. Until we finished our dinner , a few of those tables were still empty. The interior is very very cramped. Especially during the time of Covid, it doesn’t feel comfortable sitting a few inches away from strangers.
Our best experience in NYC! Its made it onto our must-go-when-in-town lists, which has just F&R on it for NYC.5 stars isnt enough for this place.Sea bass was the best weve ever had. Fig salad and burrata apps were perfect starters. The shell dessert is a great end for an amazing meal.Service from Ray and the staff was impeccable: efficient, friendly, and helpful. Music from both bands was excellent and at the perfect level for a place like this. Cocktails were tasty, wine and aperitif suggestions were on point.Dress up a bit and complete the experience.Nothing to criticize, except maybe a little more al dente for the veg ravioli.Be mindful that portions are small, so plan to get the full app, salad, main, dessert courses unless you opt for the tomahawk.
This place is a bit of an experience. It’s a great place to go on a Friday night. The live jazz is great and it’s just loud enough where you can still entertain conversation at the table. The food is amazing. I would recommend the scallops and truffle fries for appetizers. I’d also recommend the sea bass and their steaks. The staff was extremely attentive and quick. As for drinks, it’s a whiskey bar with a very thick menu book of whiskeys (I’m not so much of a whiskey drinker, but my friends are, and they really enjoyed the experience). Wine and cocktail menus aren’t as extensive but nothing to complain about.
Went here for a special occasion the other night. The restaurant has a cool decor. Feels cozy yet sophisticated. The stage is beautiful, and the live music is great. The food and drinks were also great. My only issue is service. We had a very nice server, however, the courses were coming out so fast, we felt like we were being rushed out of there. Instead of it feeling like a nice relaxing dinner, it felt like a breakfast diner where they have to clear the tables fast. Its better to ask your guests if they are ready for the next course. Also, the server never asked us if we had any food allergies, which is quite strange for a fine dining restaurant.
Came here with three free last night and we all had a fabulous evening - starting with the incredible hostess Masha who made us feel so welcomed. Since this was our first time visiting she checked in throughout the evening to make sure we were taken care of. Plus provided some great suggestions from their extensive cocktail options. The food was also terrific. Cesar salad was great. The pastas were cooked perfectly and yummy tasting. The special short ribs were the best ever according to my friend who order them. The live jazz band was also phenomenal. This place is a definite triple threat - food, cocktail and entertainment. We will be back soon!
It is unfortunate that the service is extremely lacking. Both customer service and table service. This was my second time visiting and I was not thrilled the first time so I had been holding back on returning. Well after the experience with the host/manager being quite rude on the phone and at the door, as well as the difficult communication with my server, I’m not sure if I will return again. I also asked for a mock-tail and instead of double checking the server brought me a drink with alcohol. I also tried to email the restaurant to adjust my reservation and never received a reply.
Incredible Saturday night band with an elaborate stage set up and only a few tables that didn’t have a good view. I loved the truffle fries, but the beet salad was disappointing, I was honestly choking it down. I loved the craft cocktails they were making, but the bartender was less than friendly. I’d go back for the excellent music, but I’d definitely order something different and I won’t be sitting at the bar.
I was looking for a cool yet classy place for my sister and I for dinner while in the city. I am so happy I stumbled across this gem! The atmosphere was great the music was perfect lighting just right. Fireplace was going drinks were flowing faces all around were smiling and having a great time. The food was superb! I had the burger which was so delicious juicy and very flavorful my sister had the chicken which was just as delicious. Service is excellent and friendly, they even charged my phone that died. Top it all off they gave us a complimentary desert sampler. Exactly what what I was looking for extremely happy with my find and would most certainly recommend it and definitely will be back! Lives up to its name Fine & Rare.
The food was absolutely delicious, but I will say..... THE SALT was sooooooo over powering. Way too much salt. Enough to throw someone in the ER lol. The blueberry cobbler was amazing. The green beans and potatoes were good but soooo salty. The steak was ok, not the best. Disappointed with the cheeseboard... But overall great food.. this was only my first time there wonder if it was a fluke thing or if the food is always that salty.
Very fancy restaurant with high end cocktails and service. This place has an impressive bourbon collection along with many fine food items. Theyll do any cocktail you want and some in house choices are fantastic, but at a premium price. The decor is nice but the space is small and every conversation at each table can be heard by the table next. The space is so tight that the easier would have to talk over people or tables to get your order.
I had kind of a mix feeling about this place. I have the impression it has yet to define its identity. The place looks overall cool (although somehow impersonal). The food was OK (but expensive), the service was American (= make sure you consume as much as, and leave as fast as possible), the live jazz music was great (that night). But then in between performances, they turn on some kind of techno lounge music that could get onto your nerves... in fine, not sure it’s the best place to enjoy live jazz music and dinner.
What a lovely experience on a Friday night. Our waiter was helpful and attentive. Cocktail menu is extremely creative and the cocktails are delicious. The wine list is extensive. Food was really well presented, and scrumptious. Dessert, the beautiful pomegranate chocolate mousse, was divine.
I cant say enough good things about this restaurant. A friend and I were trying to find a restaurant to dress up and dine at for our recent trip up to NYC, and Fine & Rare blew all of our expectations out of the water. From the hostess, to the wait staff, to the food, everything was beyond amazing and we will definitely be going back again and again when we visit. The live jazz was also an amazing touch and made the experience all the more memorable! We will definitely be recommending this place to everyone we know
The decor and atmosphere is indeed, fine & rare. Its a place you want to dress up for as the decor and atmosphere almost begs for it.Went here for a friends wedding party so we didnt dine officially, but the drinks they made were stupendous and the food that was passed and on tables was so good.Staff was friendly and a accommodating. Will definitely go back for dinner soon.
Came here with three free last night and we all had a fabulous evening - starting with the incredible hostess Masha who made us feel so welcomed. Since this was our first time visiting she checked in throughout the evening to make sure we were taken care of. Plus provided some great suggestions from their extensive cocktail options. I went on a date to Fine and Rare last night WOW it was impressive, my date was blown away!! where do I start, the service impeccable & professional, the ambience, the cuisine from the starter, main coarse to the dessert was delicious, the mixologist, amazing crafted cocktails yummy and the wine & whiskey selection they got you covered!! To TOP it OFF The JAZZ Incredible music puts you in the best mood!! I highly recommend this venue for any occasion hits the spot. I left feeling very content :) Thank youHana A
Fine and Rare ruined my Birthday celebration!I made a reservation for a party of 15. Due to the size of our party, the restaurant asked me to sign a contract. It was agreed that our table would spend a minimum of $1200.I would have loved it if everyone could make it but unfortunately, four people canceled last minute. To give this place a credit, the servers were courteous and the ambiance was pleasant, we stayed there for a few hours, ordering food and drinks. At the end of the night, the remaining 11 guests went way over $1200 agreed-upon minimum charge. I was caught off guard when the bill arrived with an extra charge of nearly $450.The manager told me I had to pay for the guests that couldn’t make it, so they charged me $80 per person, plus tax. To make it worse, they included gratuity for the people that couldn’t make it! While being pleasant at first, the manager (Dasha) insisted I had to pay. She agreed, however, the contract was poorly worded and was rather vague in terms of the “no-show” clause.I will never go back to the place that treats guests badly and I will never recommend Fine and Rare to friends and family!
Terrific cocktails and great whiskey selection are this places highlights, but the food is surprisingly good as well. My girlfriend and I shared the paella, which was surprisingly flavorful. The Smoking Mezcal Old Fashioned was perfectly balanced and dessert was awesome. I definitely recommend the Alaska (a Baked Alaska). Top it all off with some nice live jazz, this is a great place. Just note that it isnt cheap and best for special occasions.
The combo of jazz & good food at Fine & Rare hit a HIGH NOTE for us. It was our first visit..the great service we got was only topped by a wonderful meal. Everyones dinner was cooked to perfection. The music added to enjoyable experience. Looking forward to another visit.
Absolutely outstanding in every way!!! Been to thousands of restaurants in NYC...this place is top 5! Shogun Sour my favorite whisky cocktail of all time!! Live sublime jazz playing while enjoying top notch food and drink in a amazing setting! This place is aptly names...so FINE and RARE so don’t miss!!
The restaurants name is a perfect description of this place Fine and Rare. The atmosphere is one of the most lovely in midtown. The music along with the most delicious food/drinks cant be touched. The servive was incredibly good too! This restaurant is one of the top 3 best that I have eaten at since moving to NYC. I highly recommend it!!
The steak was cooked very well. The ambience is terrific. The staff was friendly and attentive. This place is a gem and I cant wait to go back. Minus one star because I find that their side dishes need work. More options, please. I didnt like my roasted potatoes. I thought they were very dry. That wont keep me from coming back, however.
Best meal we had in NYC. Fun cocktails, amazing burretta and pecan pie to die for (and Im from the south!). Music was so fun, perfect acoustics, just loud enough to enjoy yet still maintain conversation. Such a great atmosphere. Would recommend to anyone drink, eat and stay awhile.
Fantastic service. Romantic atmosphere. Very helpful staff. Now that we got that out of the way, we come to the food. Ive had a NY strip here which is a sizable portion meal. Beautifully cooked to perfection, however, this is not your typical steak house flavor. This place shows your their take on upscale food in their own way. Absolutely worth a visit.
First time here and i absolutely loved this place. From the call i made to change a reservation that i had set in open table to the greeting and welcoming by the hostess with the mostess, Leticia. She was super attentive to ensure i had a great table up front near the stage. Everyone was super friendly and attentive and the food was amazing. We went with the waiters suggestion for appetizers, drinks and dinner and all were spot on. Ambience and music just tool this place over the top. Cant wait to go back. Thanks all for a great time and dinner.
We booked this restaurant for dinner last Saturday eve after reading the reviews about it on both Google and Trip Advisor. We were given a table right next to the stairs leading to the stage, meaning we were disrupted on quite a few occasions during dinner. The table was located to the back of the stage as well, meaning none of us could see the performances. NOTE TO THE RESTAURANT: this table should not be there. The second performance was also VERY loud, which meant that for half our dinner, we could barely hear each other speak. The food was OK, but there was certainly nothing fine or rare on the menu. It was also crazily overpriced for what it was. We had one cocktail each, 3 glasses of wine between four of us, one main each, and one desert, and the bill came to $355 for 4 of us (including the tip)!! That kind of money in London buys you more and of a higher standard! To say we were unhappy to part ways with that amount of money for something average and not out of the ordinary is an understatement. We had a much better meal the following evening at Frank in the East Village for half that price (same number of guests)!
Just went to jazz brunch here and it was so delicious. I had the salmon Benedict possibly the best I have ever had, with perfectly poached eggs, melt in your mouth lox, a hint of dill and a delicate hollandaise sauce over crispy potato pancakes. My son enjoyed the pancakes and we finished it off with a warm lava cake whose molten center would make Master Chef proud. All this while seated in a beautiful banquette, watching a talented jazz trio on stage, and surrounded by a warm and inviting decor that looks like a restored jazz club from a bygone era. Even if this place did not have music the prices would still be a steal for a fancy proper brunch.
At first impression I had mixed feelings. When we got to the restaurant the hostess seated us completely away from the live jazz band. Granted it was packed out, I asked if there is any availability closer to the stage, the hostess said, sarcastically, “in an hr only.” My husband and I sat down, it was a bit disappointing but we weren’t allowing it to ruin our date night. When I saw several tables emptying and others being seated, that’s when I got frustrated. Luckily we had a terrific waited who was beyond accommodating. Granted I was a bit snippy with him which I apologized because he was super nice to us and got us a great table right upfront. Food was yummy, their most popular dessert was to die for and the jazz band was cherry on top!
If youre into rare spirits, wild mixology, cozy and historic ambiance, great music, and delicious food, this spot is a dream. This is the only place in Manhattan that I have found that has the quality and consistency of a high end establishment without being snobby, rude or acting super elite when it isnt needed. Youll feel like a VIP here not only because of how amazing every little corner of this place is but because of the personal experience you get from their amazing staff. There wasnt a moment where I thought things were slow or that I was missing anything, the staff was perfectly on beat with my guests and myself ordering different cocktails and plates. The cocktails are exactly what you want a 15-20$ cocktail to taste like, you know when you take that first sip that its a quality, well thought out drink. The servers know everything from the history of the spirits to the tiniest tasting pair notes of the food and drinks. The management team is amazing, I had dasha come to my table twice to see how we were doing and I could tell she remembered seeing me at the bar once before. We had the most amazing charcuterie board that looked like it was out of a michelin magazine, chicken and steak dishes, potato gratin and asparagus sides which were as phenomenal as the main entrees and the most instagram worthy dessert in the world, the Fine and Rare sphere.I tried a few of the cocktails and my guests cocktails and the Colorado, gimlet and death of a ladies man were my favorites, amazing. The music is a given, not only is it amazing that they have such great celebrity performers (I.e. Lady Gagas jazz band on Saturdays) and performers from your favorite high end spots in the city, but the band and artists engage with you as well, Brian stopped by our table after his set and spoke with us knowing how in love my friend was with his band.We stayed late after seeing a ballet performance and were probably one of the last groups out but we never felt rushed, only invited and comfortable.I highly suggest becoming a regular at this spot, before it blows up and becomes impossible to get into! Also I heard from a friend that the lunch is just as amazing, I saw a poster about them opening for lunch recently and I’ll definitely make it my regular spot to take my clients!!!!!
Very góod but way overpriced for the experience. Our staff was capable but not stellar for the price point. Table next to us had to send an order back, because it was not done as ordered. It was replaced with minimal questioning but at these prices, it should have been right the firs time. Still, four stars, because our meals were very good and the spirit selection is impressive.
The live music was fantastic! But their food weren’t as good as I thought would be. I had Chilled lobster and F&R burger and were both stinky, fries were overcooked. They don’t have a wide selection of wine but were able to make different types of cocktail that were not on the menu.
Positives include excellent space and decor with great music acts. Seating at the front only allows 1 person to view the act. The better seats are the one further back that allow the full table to view. Extensive whiskey menu and drink are very well made. Smallish bar area if you are just looking for cocktails/music. We ordered some food and it was spotty at best. Flat bread was more inline with flat cracker than bread. it was good, but being so thin, it got cold real quick. Porkchop was a thick cut chop, but a bit tough even though we got it medium. We ordered 2 sides, the truffle fries and lentil cassoulet. We had to send both items back and I cant remember the last time I had to do it. Both items were edible, but had no flavor at all. Host was apologetic and took it off the bill. For some reason that I dont completely understand, almost every spot that has live music that tries to serve food, they just dont seem to hit the mark. Going forward, i think I would just stick to locations that focus on the music and have food elsewhere.
Lovely decore, talanted, beautiful jazz band adding to an amazing atmosphere of the whole place; not to speak of an absolutely delish food-everything we ordered from the menue was delicate, fresh, delicious-lobster roll, frittata, short rib burger, grilled chicken salad, truffle deserts-black currant semifredo and caramel mousse-all mouth-watering!Service was impeccable, everyone very friendly. Have nothing bad to say about the place. Definitely going on my fav list. Can’t wait to come back to try the dinner menue. Well deserved 5 stars!💓
We were out with clients from out of town and really wanted to impress them. Our usual lunch spot was booked and we happened to walk by Fine and Rare and we were very glad we did! Its a very elegant setting. The restaurant boasts having hundreds of different Scotches and wiskeys along with a great menu. We had the flat bread pizza to start and I had the cobb salad with crabmeat which was amazing and my guest had the branzino. Service was very attentive but not intrusive which is very important for a business lunch. It truly is a hidden gem for executives trying to impress or if youre just out for the day. We will be back!!
Omg 😮 Wow 😮 Where do I begin? This jewel of a place is simply MARVELOUS!!!! My siblings and I celebrated our parents 40th wedding anniversary with mom and dad, after a helicopter ride over NYC. Every single person from the minute we walked in were warm and inviting! The service is impeccable!!! The live music was top notch ans super classy. I highly recommend this place for a special event or even just date night. Enjoy 😊
This is an old school style establishment that is still under the radar (but wont be for long), serving great drinks, and playing cool jazz. They also serve meals, but because theyre still waiting on getting their gas line approved by the City, they have a limited menu. This in no way takes away from its charm.Hope it remains a hidden gem for those in the know, and not get ruined by tourist.
Came in with a friend from out of town to order the New York strip (I had been thinking about it all day). I placed my order, then 5 mins later I was told that they didnt have it. I ordered the veal chop instead, which was just ok. The smoky tequila old-fashioned was fantastic though, as were the truffle fries. I just REALLY wanted that steak and it wouldve been nice if the server had read the 86 list before she came to my table; it was lunch time, so there were only like 6 people in the whole restaurant.
We experienced poor treatment here when celebrating a Birthday. They imposed a minimum charge for our table, which we surpassed, and they then decided to charge us for the no-shows. Absurd! The manager agreed, their contract wasnt explicit enough, but she still used it against us. Nasty!
Went here for our first date with my girlfriend, it has a great atmosphere and good selection of scotch. It is a little overpriced compared to other places in Manhattan, but its also very nice.Came here once and they were having a private event where they werent open to the public. Pretty annoying and ruined plans, but guess not really their fault, just be aware that you may not be able to get in if you plan on going.

2022-02-05Very warm welcome from the moment I stepped in this place. Was meeting a friend who had reservations. The drinks are made beautifully! The food arrived and was cooked perfectly as I asked for, which was well done. I enjoyed my meal down to the last bite! The barrel aged coffee topped off dinner and was just as good as the main course! Excellent place overall with awesome service!

2022-01-17My boyfriend and I had such an amazing experience at Fine&Rare. The staff were really welcoming and helpful when describing the items on the menu. I had requested a table with a great view for my boyfriends birthday and we were not disappointed. We had a great view of the stage, the band was also incredible! The steak and sea bass were amazing, and the cocktails were to die for. The steak was so filling so we were too full for dessert but the staff made it extra special and delivered a small cupcake and macaroons with a candle. You must dine here for a true NYC experience. We cannot wait to go back!

2022-01-01We went to Fine and Rare for NYE and couldn’t have been more happy with our choice of dinner + entertainment. The band was WONDERFUL. Super chill and happy vibes, great music, good food and drinks, and the environment was just so lovely. I read the reviews and heard it was noisy there, but that was not our experience. The noise level was perfectly fine. We loved it so much, we’re planning to visit their other restaurant The Flatiron Room.

2022-01-05Everything was great! The food, the live music, the drinks, the service and more. Had a wonderful time here with my girlfriend. Its probably one of the best places in NY for a romantic date night. I wish we had a place like this in Vancouver, Canada. Thank you for everything!

2021-09-29Superior whiskey bar with fine dining and excellent service. Fantastic place for a special occasion or to show off your whiskey knowledge to business associates. Had the luxury tasting and it was fantastic! The trout was delicious in an incredible butter sauce, and the crab sandwich was fabulous with truffle fries. Had the Fine and Rare sphere for dessert and it was fantastic!

2021-10-31I had a great evening at this restaurant. The staff was kind and friendly and offered me water while I waited for the rest of my party. We had a Roaring 20s theme for 9 people. By the way, coat check is complementary so remember to leave a nice tip. We were all seated promptly, offered drinks, and informed about what was available from the menu. Our server was amazing and very accommodating. The food was AMAZING. We ordered family style to share and try a few of the dishes in the menu. So damn good! 🙌 They also cleaned our table and gave us fresh silverware after our starters. I was so busy taking in the experience of the food and the live band and the great music between their breaks, that I forgot to take photos of all the food. I did get one of the Tomahawk Steak which was cooked perfectly, absolutely delicious. Just believe me when I say this place will make you feel like a king or queen of New York.

2022-02-15The ambiance is perfect for a date night!!! My husband and I came here, opted to sit at the bar instead of our reserved outdoor seating because the live music inside is not played on a speaker outdoors (pretty disappointing considering their whole esthetic is the live jazz aspect), but of course that won’t stop a good night! Since they had no walk-in availability we waited a short time for two seats to open at the bar and the night started! As far as the food, I’d highly recommend ordering both types of raw oysters, trying any of their extensive list of cocktails or whiskeys and enjoy the moment! Entrees weren’t mind blowing. After we ordered oysters, crab meat cocktail, steelhead tartare, the Chilean sea bass, The porterhouse steak, three sides, AND two desserts; we both agreed we could’ve stuck to the liquor and the oysters. Overall a beautiful night with absolutely GREAT service, but as foodies we weren’t 100% sold. I’d still recommend if you’ve never been. It’s different and that’s what makes it nice! Go try for yourself!

2021-09-25If youre looking for the perfect dinner date, or just a few drinks with live music, Fine & Rare offers great craft cocktails, a wide array of high quality spirits, and a delicious, well conceived menu wrapped in a sophisticated atmosphere that makes you feel like a private member. Highly recommended for a quality, low key night in midtown.

2022-04-05This place had EXACTLY what I was looking for! Great food, great service and a great band! They played and sang songs from 1920s. The Roaring 20s are BACK!
