Bayshore to Fire Island and back, a lot. The employees are great. It gets crowded because people still try (in this day and age) to get on before everyone is off. Many dog owners are oblivious to any other dog owners and other people. Pay attention to the dogs for yourself, because the owner usually doesnt.Besides the oblivious dog owners, the ferry is great. It runs on time, and they run extra ferries during on season.
Ive never taken the ferry to fire island. But Nickys clam bar shares the parking lot. Excellent seafood. Steamers are as perfect as they can get. Mussels marinara are better then mine and mine are good. Fried whole clams are an experience to be tried. This is a clam bar, not a fine dinning restaurant. Just great sea food before you get on the ferry. For fine dinning there is another nickys, same owner near by on the bay shore docks.
The iconic ferry, essential to the Fire Island experience in my opinion. Holiday weekends theyve been cracking down on people drinking on the way over, but depending on which boat you get it can be both scenic and rowdy!Have a friend drop you off and pick you up, paying for parking is VERY expensive.
Service was good but there needs to be much better organization in the main terminal. When boarding the ferry you had people pushing and shoving with their luggage because there were like 3 different lines formed for the same ferry. Considering the situation in our world, I think they should keep the terminal limited to a certain amount of people. The good thing was everyone had the wear a mask and the staff were very strict about it.
Great app and service. Round trip to ocean Beach... A little packed... A few no maskers.. Who had to individually had to be told to wear one on the way. All things being equal..I rode the top deck. So open air .. Low risk. Unfortunately on the way back (and the way there) absolutely no respect for social distance on the line up. During my trip home sure rolled in..I grabbed a window seat so I could continue to get open air... Unfortunately Karen-the-maskless boarded the very full not distanced trip back and then informed I needed to close the window. Once I informed her to put on her mask.. She went and got ferry staff and informed that I needed to close window.. Didnt mention her lack of compliance and had the staff tell me he was just trying to make everyone happy.I rode back on top deck.. Fortunately little to no rain.Score one for Karen. Dont ride the ferry if you care to keep your distance. On the plus side the trip there the security was diligent in enforcing the mask rule.. The way home two counters looked at Karen and still could not bring themselves to enforce the law or public policy.
Always on time... ALWAYS. Nice porters & crew. My only complaint is their scheduling. Not the actual times, but the way its worded can be very confusing. Check with the locals to make sure you have it sorted before you make time-sensitive plans. A $10 ticket is a lot better than the $150 water taxi youll have to pay for, to get off the island. The crowd can be grating sometimes, but its a short & refreshing trip. A few screaming kids wont bother you as soon as you step of the boat and on to the charming & relaxing island. Bon Voyage!
They get you on, get you off safely. Staff is young and both coming and going the boat operators were young women. Nice to see that. They parked like bosses! The staff were a little too serious. It did remind me of when I drove a bus, I operated the same way. It had to do with safety more than anything else, staying focussed on everything and everyone. Thats why it stays at a five star rating!
The most essential service obviously for anyone living or staying on Fire Island. Great job on the website makeover, far more informative and useful. Its disappointing however they are not aggressively addressing mask use on the ferries. While they do require a mask during boarding, I see many riders not taking it seriously once aboard. It shouldnt be the job of the crew to have to police rider behavior but unfortunately thats whats needed. As riders we dont deserve to be needlessly exposed, and the crew, who interact with far more riders than any passenger absolutely deserve better as well
Why bother driving around? Take the ferry ride for an hour and 20 minutes and relax. Take a nice drive out east and see all the wineries and various farms. Get bagels in Southold before you go to the ferry. The ferry has food and a bar if you want some drinks. Take the ferry but make sure youre early. If youre late youll be on standby and risk having to be on the next ferry. Leave early!!!
We have travelled to Fire Island from here. Ferries are available as per schedule(limited times) and costs $21 for adult round trip, $11 for kids(05/2019). It’s 20 mins approx travel in sea which is very nice. Parking is limited to season pass holders. Public parking available with in half mile. If you get on road public parking your are lucky otherwise bit more money you have pay. Facility having limited seating and good thing is tickets can be purchased with mobile app “FI mTickets” so its easy. You have to active those ticket while you are boarding. Staff are friendly. I think they should have some parking for public also. No changing rooms or showers in either side of the facility.
Within 10 minutes on the ride you get that deed deep sigh. The kind of sigh you let out when you realize you left all the worries back at the bay shore parking lot. Also for all those reading reviews from others that are sub par, it’s due to their own ignorance or lack there of for reading the well published and well known rules for what you can and can’t take on the ferries. Just read the rules and you’ll be fine. and yes. Shocker. It’s a monopoly.
This service does not allow the passenger to travel with a bicycle. It must go by freight on a separate vessel. In the past this was allowed and I said this to the man in charge. He said this isnt so and by such utterance was calling me a liar. To ship a bike separately incurs a separate charge. This service is a monopoly and their attitude, as represented by this so-called supervisor is one of indifference. His last comment was I could take it across by water taxi, but there really is nowhere on Fire Island it could be ridden anyway. Obnoxious fellow as he was perfectly illustrated why he works in freight and is not my physician or a nuclear engineer. Three stars because of all the years riding the ferries I have not experienced one capsizing. It is simply not as exhilarating as it was when I was knee high to a grasshopper. This incident references the Bay Shore location.
A ferry that will take you to Fire Island. Rountrip tickets cost $21 for adults, and $11 for kids. The ferry ride is about 25 mins long to and from the ports. Plenty of room to sit both top deck and below deck. They have a designated area for the luggage. They can be between 40 mins to an hour apart. A smooth sail to enjoy.
The schedules are strict! Dont be late! The only time you may be lucky if youre late is if they are late. The staff are all very professional. They help with all of your cargo. The ride to the Island from Bayshore could range from 25 minutes to 45 depending on which town youre going to on Fire Island.
I called beforehand to find out about parking and was told, Theres plenty of Parking. The lot they told me to use was full, only finding that out after inching along for about 10 minutes. They said, Use the other lot, go out and make a left.... Went there, waited there and 3 cars in front, they closed down that lot as full. The guy there said you can park up by Truro college, but it was too late for me.Unfortunately, Id purchased 2 round trip tickets (non-refundable) just for this occasion. When you make representations that There is plenty of parking, as well as you can park right next door.... , it should be a true statement. In response to the reply from Fire Island Ferries:It was Friday not Saturday or Sunday, and your phone person made a representation that there was parking. In reliance upon that person I purchased tickets (2), which are useless to me.Perhaps you should instruct your people to tell the truth? No refunds? like when will I be out there again? Oh wait, I suppose I could get a refund through the courts.
It is a ferry that gets you from point A to point B without any fuss. It is not free because the beach itself doesnt carry any price. The first half of the trip is quite enjoyable but the way back is more of a pain since the majority of travelers are suffering some form of sunburn.
CAUTION! Do not park here! High risk of theft! UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCE SHOULD YOU EVER LEAVE YOUR KEYS WITH VALET OR IF THEY ASK YOU TO DO SO.They do have cameras but if you leave your car for an extended period (5 days) they will not review all the footage.Filed a police report and was told this is not uncommon.I paid $70 to have my things stolen. Dont.park.here.
Cash only! Ferries are clean and punctual. $38 return ticket for 2 persons for Ocean Beach is rather expensive. Parking is a rip-off, they are not charging by the hour. $17 per day on weekends and $10 on weekdays. Come earlier, park somewhere else and walk to the ferries.
The high school kids who work here dont even know their own ticket policy. One of the ticket collectors tried telling me that they dont accept LIRR tickets when I handed him my ferry ticket, which was purchased through the LIRR Beach Getaways package. Please teach your employees how to do their jobs. Thx.
The ferries were perfect, but the water taxi’s were so strict. I accidentally bought several Bay Ocean to Dunewood tickets on the app for my group, instead of Ocean Beach to Dunewood — both are the same price — and they wouldn’t accept it. It was frustrating to have to buy all the tickets again.
My experience was terrible, Im not from ny and really not familiar with the ferry. Ask deckhand when I arrived if I was on the right ferry,he said yes. At the first stop I got off. Theres no sign when you arrive, nor any announcement.Needless to say it was the wrong stop, I had to wait an hour for a water taxi. And they changed me. Some nerve. By the way I am disabled. Very disappointed.
Very straight-forward and simple service. Reliable, well-placed, and consistent - everything you want from a transportation hub. This review only addresses the Fair Harbor/Dunewood/Lonelyville/Ocean Beach ferry hub.A one-way ticket is $10, and a RT ticket is $19 to save you $1. If you dont buy a RT at Bay Shore, and find yourself at the ferry dock with no ticket, dont panic: you buy another $10 one-way ticket on the ferry. At Bay Shore, there is Nickys across the street by the parking lot where the food is pretty good. I hear the lobster roll is nice, if not pricey. Their coffee is decent, and sandwiches are pretty good.Good bathrooms available, as well as a couple shops nearby to buy some things you want to bring on island before you get there (where everything is more expensive).
Terrible parking. The town of Islip has not improve any of the parking situation for the Bay Shore ferries, and if you park in the street you get a fine of $75.00. Parking is an Absolute disaster!!...Garbage everywhere it is a shame considering the amount of money we pay in taxes.

2021-11-26“Cash only” at the ticket window. The Uber app now sells ferry and water taxi tickets, but you don’t get any rewards points. The trip does not even appear in the “Your Trips” section of the app.Activate tickets a few minutes before boarding and show them to the crew.Tickets can also be purchased in advance on the app “Fi mTickets”. Debit cards, credit cards and Apple Pay are accepted.Like with the Uber app, you can also purchase tickets for water taxi rides between villages. Examples: Ocean Beach (where most of the restaurants are) to The Fire Island LightHouse; Sailor’s Haven (where the Sunken Forest is) to nearby Cherry Grove or The Pines. The Fi mTickets app is secure, but no text notifications are sent. Activate tickets a few minutes before boarding and show them to the crew.See fireislandferries dot com for more information.Deckhands are friendly, but they could come around more often.

2019-08-20Had fun selling soap on the island for the fair and meeting so many wonderful people! The ride on the ferry was smooth and quickly got us on and off the island. I saw many ferries come and go the entire time that I was there.

2018-07-07I always enjoy the ride over to fire Island. The ferries are always clean and on time. I would also like to acknowledge them for hiring a good number of women in what has been male dominated roles.

2019-06-29Wish there was a better way to unload, pay for parkig and the ferry.. If you are new to this e patience get the app and arrive 30 min early...save some stress.. Boats are almost Disney clean. Ours appeared to have a solid captain and he really knew how to handle the boat in tight quarters.
