After a friends recommendation, seeing their site, and the reviews I decided to come here for brunch with my friends. I had many assumptions about this place. It was a rainy day and there was perhaps two other tables there, so I assumed it would be a quick and easy service. We were seated fairly quickly and eventually ordered our drinks and food. The server mentioned that they were not selling fried items yesterday morning so I was unable to order fries or empanadas (disappointed but I assumed that since there was limited items on the menu, food service would be a lot quicker). The server who took our order, had his phone out to take our orders so I assumed he would take our orders accurately. All my assumptions were wrong. Instead after all our drinks came out (iced cold brew, honey matcha lemonade, and iced chai latte), our foods took about 20-30 mins to come. When the food actually came, only 2 dishes came out, when I ordered 3 dishes. After waiting 25 mins or so (which was when the server came out to take the order for another customer), we asked him where the third dish was. Apparently there was a miscommunication and he had asked if there was only 2 dishes, when I heard did you order 2 of this one dish (which we did).At this point I was upset at the fact that the server did not accurately take our food orders properly. I felt bad my friends were waiting for me (as their food got cold) so I let them eat ahead. I ended up ordering the dish that was missing, which took another 20 minutes (at that point my friends were basically waiting for me) and they forgot my side of toast. At this point, it was pointless to even ask because it would have probably taken another 20 minutes or so.In terms of the food, it was okay. I ordered the same dish as one of my friends: a bacon, gouda, and avocado omelette, which was pretty simple. My other friend ordered the croque madame (grilled mortadella, sauteed mushroom, and spinach. Mozzarella cheese, bechamel sauce on rustic bread with a fried egg on top). Unfortunately, she had to eat hers cold. I ordered a honey matcha lemonade for myself and it was a bit sour for my liking (hardly tasted the honey)Overall, I found my experience pretty disappointing. I would have understood if this was a busy day with a lot of customers, but it was about 2 tables worth of customers, a rainy day, and limited options for brunch.
It’s a little bistro that I’ve passed countless times on my way home, but today I deviated from routine and stopped in for happy hour (4-6pm). I ordered a mojito ($5) and empanadas ($1 a piece). Can I just tell you how good this was? The mojito was fresh and the empanadas were flavorful. My only regret was not stopping here sooner.
Ive lived in Sunnyside for over a year now down the street from here and I watched this place go from a small cafe to just ridiculously good food. IDK what that chef in the back is doing but it is really something special. You HAVE to try this place. Especially the arepas are top notch.
This place is only good for breakfast. Lunch is not upto par and is expensive, but the breakfast is amazing! This place is also usually dirty, after being there 2 times, tables usually never get wiped down after previous customers have finished and left. Wait time to get your food is extremely longgggg (both times). I happened to try the NY strip steak dish for lunch and the meat was overcooked, stiff and dry (due to it being overcooked). If they hadnt made my second experience so bad, and if they kept the place more clean, I would have given it 5 stars.
The food is fantastic in this small neighborhood restaurant. It has small tapas dishes you can order upon request. Spicy shrimp and various empanadas are highly recommended small plates at this joint. Pastas in general are well prepared with good presentations! You will also have many dessert to choose from. The bread pudding is one of our favorites. Enjoy the cute cocktails while you are there!
This is a favorite neighborhood place serving sandwiches, salads, baked goods, coffee, and pasta. Please note Petite in the restaurant’s name. It is tiny and run by a female chef owner with a few staff members. If going during peak times, like weekend mornings, expect a very long wait to order to go or eat in. The tiny kitchen can only pump out so much food. Favorites are the Spanish Tortillas; Pumpkin Bread; Mocha Gelee; Mortadella Egg Sandwich; Mushroom Pockets; and Cacio e Pepe
Good, quality and clean food with decent coffee. Theyre certainly making the most of Covid which is nice for the community. I think just a little less on the unhealthy ingredients would be nice for example we had their Croque Madame sandwich, whilst delicious, just very heavy on the cheese! Also had their salmon creme cheese sandwich, would have preferred a bread option rather than something very heavy on the dough. Worth a try this place for sure!
Cozy, delicious and Sofi! Really enjoyed my green lasagna dish but have to be honest and say that the best part of our meal was the server, Sofi, who is also an artist and has her works (and photo) on the wall. She was so welcoming, warm and friendly, with a lovely, light laughter, lthat I was almost instantly smitten. I dont know if this will be the case for you but even if its not the food sounds, looks and tastes good so you wont be disappointed. V small space but wasnt crowded when we went on a Sunday night. Brunch looks good. If/when I come back to Queens Ill have to try it out.
Cute little spot in the heart of Sunnyside! Nice touch on each one of the items on the menu and not only that, but also the space itself. Small, cozy and good taste are probably the best words to describe it. They serve breakfast/brunch/early lunch so make sure u go in the right timeframe. Amazing coffee(espresso), tasty quiche lorraine and delicious Nutella Croissant. If you are lucky, you will also be able to greet the chef Vanessa❤️ Definetely one of the best in Sunnyside!
Loved the Bucatini Alfredo!! First time that i had it i already knew its gonna be my favorite. The Firefly pizza is a must try! We also had the home fries(which i didnt get to take a picture) and got a choice of spicy avocado or firefly aioli. We couldnt decide what to get so we got both dips and theyre the bomb! Im excited to try all the other stuff on the menu but i feel like im sticking to the Bucatini Alfredo. This place is a hidden gem still yet to be discovered by the people around Sunnyside. This is a very cool spot with such tiny space. The music is relaxing. Perfect combo with the food. The staff is great. Customer service on point. Congratulations, Vannessa on your Grand Opening! People are gonna love you!11/14/2020Love the food here. Quality is still on point 2 yrs after opening, but theres a lack of service lately. There was one day we waited to get seated, but there was no one else waiting other than us. I feel like they were too busy with the seated customers at the moment and forgotten to get us our table. It was terrible there was no communication, they could atleast let us know how long is the wait so were not just standing there. We decided to leave and just grabbed food somewhere else.
I had a terrible experience. I went to the restaurant one time and was given free food after a mis-communication between the waitress and her mother. But, I saw the waitress, Vanessa, and went to the restaurant the second time and was told that everything was good and that there was no need for any concern. We even talked and chatted about how my friend who gave her free product lost his mother to cancer. All of a sudden, I was to pay for the last meal that I had for free plus my bill that was in front of me—- I was shocked, overwhelmed, and shocked. Initially, I thought she and I were on good terms and then she blurted out “I am not welcome to come to the restaurant anymore,” I felt as though she took advantage of my money, time, and kindness... and, was extremely misleading and disrespectful. I do not recommend anyone to go to a restaurant like “firefly” that has a waitress willing to be abusive in tone and service to a regular customer who may or may not be having a bad day.
We came to firefly Restaurant on 43rd Ave in Sunnyside, and I must say I was incredibly pleasantly surprised. The surf and turf burger blew me away. Its incredibly delicious. Along with the Mango Sangria just made it a very memorable late afternoon meal. I recommend this hidden gem to anyone looking for a tasty delicious burger.
Excellent place for brunch, lunch, dinner. My husband and I come here often and we’re never disappointed. So far we have tried the Margarita Pizza, spinach & cheese empanadas, fries and huevos ibericos. Everything is delicious, and perfectly portioned. And the hot & cold drinks and deserts are to die for! Excellent service and very consistent quality.
I didnt want to be too rude. But the food was not good enough to make up for the terrible service.35 minutes waiting for a table when they werent busy. While we were waiting a different customer had to find the waiter to remind him of the drinks they had been waiting for. Even after that, they still had to wait 15 more minutes. This was all before we even say down. It took another 30 minutes to get our drinks. They were just ok. We ordered wine after our cocktails, and not 1 but 2 bottles of white wine were warm.I ordered mushroom/mozzarella empanadas and got the bacon ones. Im a vegetarian, so rather than eating it. I let my gf and her friends eat them so they wouldnt go to waste. The main course was, again, just ok.Once we got the bill we had yet more issues, we used a Pulse voucher and the waiter had issues with getting the total correct. After calling his manager he got it straightened out but again..the service was just awful. My friends and I stayed and tried to have a good time. But I cant guarantee that will be back. Perhaps since they live close they may give it another shot.
Food is good but i wish the service was better. I hate to be “that person” but it looks like I’m going to have to. We arrived and waited for a table and there were two waitresses on staff. One waitress was serving food and the other was in the back in full view of us waiting for a table. A table opened but was dirty. We waited about 10 minutes for it to be cleaned and in this time the server in the back sitting down is watching this while the other is serving food. We finally sat and our table was cleaned by the server who was serving the other tables. Another couple came and the waitress comes from the back jumps and cleans their table right away and says “sorry for the wait”. They waited less than a minute. Perhaps we just looked a certain way that she did not want to come and seat us but we got up and started to walk out. Only then did she address us and asked what the problem was. She said she was sorry we felt that way. We replied that its not how we felt, its what happened. Pretty outrageous that they would treat potential customers like this.
Best experience I’ve ever had, had the chance to try their empanadas and there’s one with bacon that there’s no way to explain, ordered a baked bolognese with chicken and there’s an amazing twist on this plate, is a small bistro but with so much potential, I totally recommend this place for lunch/dinner.Note: great background music too.
This is the best pizza I’ve ever had in New York, reminds me of my hometown.. I love it ❤️👏Such a beautiful Bistro, and amazing food.I had The daylight turf pizza 🍕 and it was amazing..! made with fresh mushrooms and real truffle oil u can tell of the beautiful smell, I had Fresh Oysters as well it was just opened and really fresh with Delicious sauce and dressing on the side… I’m sure a hundred percent the burger is great and the Mini empanada too.. they have a delicious Alfredo pasta 🍝 looks so good, and they have great drinks and cocktails and a big bunch of dessert 🍨 Worth a try.🤞Great service, very nice people ,nice music, and I love the simple lights.
I 100% recommend this place , the food is great specially the Poulet de Luxe sandwich was amazing , the chicken was nice and tender and crispy , the fries that comes with it was so good along with the homemade tartar sauce , I liked it because it’s homemade and not pre cooked . Vanessa the owner is very welcoming and sweet , this is a small bistro perfect for date night and brunch with your friends .
Very few times do I write reviews, however this hole in the wall deserves it. The ambiance is peaceful which is hard to find in the middle of everything going on. The food is on POINT! It has flavor and the ingredients are fresh. I ordered a spinach cream soup and a sunnyside salad, the spinach soup isn’t something that comes out of a can you can tell this is something your mom would make at home. The salad for something that’s simple many people can easily mess this up, however even the salad was great perfect portion size and the ingredients were mixed just right! I hope this small business goes very far because they deserve it with their quality food!
Firefly, is my favorite place in the nieghborhood to enjoy bistro-style food that is unique and truly delicious. They have great mixed drinks, Beer, Wine and Sangria. I highly recommend this place whether you are one person or a large group celebrating together. The Arepas are phenomenal. Make sure to try the Capellini, Bucatini, Truffle Delight Pizza and The Empanadas. The burgers are juicy and delicious. Bistecca BBQ and Beef Nero Arosto Sandwich are fantastic. You can’t go wrong with this menu. Even the Salads are above and beyond.Enjoy!
Great petit cafe in the neighborhood. Saw their Yelp reviews and everyone had nice things to say. Decided to try it for myself. Went on a casual Saturday brunch and was impressed. The Food is delicious. Its made with love and the chef pays attention to detail! Will definitely stop back and order some more!
Food is good but some of the staff here is rude over simple matters. I completely get how working in service is hard because so many people are just jerkoffs but it is hard to come back here more often after experiences like that. I like the food and coffee here so much too but Im just not going to come spend money at the place that is rude over simple questions. You can just simply tell us you dont have a table. We werent going to give you a hard time about it.
We had dinner here and the food was okay.... Thought wed give it another go for brunch and again, it was just okay. The pizza had good toppings but a dense and tough crust... The croque madame was extremely heavy on the cheese, with well overdone eggs.Service was good when it was quiet (Sunday dinner), but very slow when busier (Saturday brunch) even though its a tiny place. One thing that annoyed me... We asked if our dishes came with a side of fries as we just wanted a few, and when the server said no, we ordered some... Turns out one of the meals did come with fries, and we ended up with two many (paid $10 for the extra side). Granted the server seemed new and probably didnt know, it was annoying, and wed rather she checked.
Small place but everything on the menu either looks great or taste great (havent gone through the whole thing). The coffee is great, the baked good are unique and amazing but the staff is incredible. Everyone is so nice and happy to be there which says a lot about the management. This has become my favorite breakfast spot in the area.
As a former chef of many years, I am very wary of leaving negative reviews online. I understand that mixups can happen and, especially in times of Covid, we all need to support local. But a recent experience with Firefly left such a bitter taste that I feel obliged to share. On Sunday 3/14, I ordered a sandwich for pickup through delivery.com. The website initially told me the expected pickup time was 40 mins later. Unfortunately, it took Firefly 20 mins to accept the order, and once they did so, the updated pick up time shifted to a total 60 mins after I placed my order. This seemed like a long time for sandwich and some fries, but I was willing to take part of the blame for ordering through what appeared to be a 3rd party platform.I went into the restaurant 60 mins after placing my order — the time at which I was told the food would be ready — and it quickly became apparent the kitchen hadnt even started making my order. The manager/server told me not to worry and that my order would be ready in 5-7 mins. Because I live around the corner, I asked him to call me when it was ready as I didnt want to get in the way by waiting in their very tight dining area. 7 mins came and went and it ultimately took a total 30 mins extra before the sandwich was finally ready. When I went in to collect the order, the member of staff that I had communicated with made no effort whatsoever to apologize or even acknowledge the 90 minutes (!) it took to make a sandwich — let alone try and make it up in some way.As I mentioned before, I believe it is more important than ever to support local businesses right now. But I dont think that should give restaurants a pass and allow them to provide terrible customer service as in this case. The food I received was quite good, though nothing special, and certainly not the worth the $20 I ended up spending with tip. I will continue to support local but nothing about todays experience made even the slightest case for returning to Firefly.
The service is super slow, we waited an hour to get our food. The food wasn’t good; empanadas were filled with what tasted like canned mushroom soup or pre made mushroom pasta sauce. The entire time they were blasting really sad sad pop songs that just killed the mood. The menu was also different than expected and many items didn’t have a price.
Does not have respect for customers. I use to frequent quite often specifically for the empanadas. I stopped when the owner brought me my order to go, as I waited curbside, she was not wearing a mask or gloves. As I was getting the money out my wallet to pay, she placed my food on the black wooden seat (this was unsanitary). I was appalled! The seat had not been wiped down & exposed to pollution from the cars. She was evidently annoyed having to wait . She did not say thank you. Not wearing a mask, placing my food on the bench, not saying thank you showed her arrogance! I stopped going; and I have taken my money elsewhere. For sometime, the owner wouldnt wear a mask. Ive passed by & have seen her wearing one now. Glad to see she is taking the pandemic serious!Follow-up to Owners Reply: You took the time to reply in an unprofessional manner. Evidently, you do not take constructive criticism well. It was not the 1st time you were not wearing a mask. Even if you were helping out, you should have worn a mask. Your comment solidifies why I should not go back. You should have simply apologized. Your arrogance has caused you to lose a customer; I will not return! I dont need you. You need customers; dont bite the hand that feeds you!
Firefly offers exceptional food, beautiful ambiance and great service. My boyfriend and I have been dining in and out at Firefly for about a year since moving to Sunnyside, it is our Go-To spot! The food is 5-star! While we miss dining in, this restaurant does an amazing job packaging food to-go and it feels as if you are at the restaurant! I would highly recommend this restaurant and look forward to dining in person again soon!
At the advice of one of their employees, I wont be coming back here anymore. The service was especially slow today with a bad attitude, which isnt unusual here but whatever.Getting right to the point, when the bill came the croque madame was listed at $16 + $2.50 for a brie upgrade which we did not order. When we asked about the server said that the normal price is $18.50 and thats just how the register rang it up. It seemed weird but whatever we paid. When we left we noticed on the menu outside that the price for the item is $14, not even $16!Went back in to complain and she seemed really annoyed, barely said anything, then threw $4 in cash at us (we paid by card). There was no apology, no acknowledgement she lied to our face about the price, and gave us less back than we were overcharged, not even accounting for tax or anything.Like, its not a big difference at that point but how are you going to give back LESS than the amount that you overcharged?? It seemed to annoy her even more when I didnt just accept it so when she took out an extra $1.75 and threw it so carelessly that the change went on the floor, I demanded the tip back because the service and attitude were terrible. At the point the other guy behind the counter muttered dont come back then, and well, you all got your wish!
This is a really cute and quaint cafe with about ten 2-person tables with table service. The chai latte was delicious and the perfect temperature! My partner loved his benedictine, but I was really disappointed in mine. I got the acai bowl and it was watery and the smoothie was flavorless. Tasted like melted ice. It also took a long time to get our check after requesting it twice.
Very good coffee but insane prices. $5.50 for a 16oz. iced coffee is far too much (and not labelled clearly on the menu board). Its nice to have a place like this in the neighborhood, and I havent tried the food yet, but hopefully they adjust prices to more realistic levels.
Let me tell you something guys... if you are looking for AMAZING food, GREAT SERVICE, and a cozy atmosphere this is the right place! We had a great experience, very nice and multicultural neighborhood to hang out after dinner.Empanadas WOW ! after the first one I got addicted lol... nice concept.Thank you very much chef Vanessa for such warm a great experience.Highly recommended
Amazing food and great service, very chill and cozy. You can really tell they put a lot of thought in their recipes. So happy to have a spot like this in Sunnyside. Came for brunch and had the croquet madam a la firefly - delicious! Will definitely come back for lunch and dinner as well.Sunnyside es this is a must!
This place would be a five star is some things were adjusted. The food is all very good but the prices are too high for what you get. The regular iced coffee is more expensive than cold brew that you will find at other places in the neighborhood. In addition, I have experienced long wait times.
This tiny charmer is clean, white, and the walls feature art by locals. It holds a handful of tables, cheek by jowl, so if privacy is what you are after dont expect to find it here. What you will find is a delicious array of simple, and satisfying fare, like the Huevos Rotos with Spanish Artisan Chorizo, hearty Pork Ragu, and their Caprino e Paprika Pizza. They also have a tasty selection of baked goods, and serve a great cup of coffee for times when you just need a quick grab and go. Whatever you have a taste for come in and say hi to the friendly folks at Firefly. Like its namesake, Firefly may be small, but it glows brightly.
Firefly welcome to Sunnyside! I just had the ‘The New Yorker’ classic smoked salmon & cream cheese made extraordinarily in a croissant together with tomatoe, avocado & capers! Wonderful combination. Firefly bistro is very clean, friendly service and overall a delightful experience on a Saturday.
We loved the place. The delicious food, the dessert, not to mention super divine and the best attention, the owner is a beauty, they attend you personally and super friendly. We have been several times already and we always love all the spectacular food. The super recommended brutal burgers 🥳
The food is not bad, but we had the worst service I have ever had in NYC. They took forever to serve us and bring the drinks and food. And then the waitress would come every five minutes to try to clear our plates and drinks and for us to leave. And all this during his celebration of 3 years. We will never return to this place (and we are neighbors).

2022-07-05You can tell the owner is so passionate about what she does. The plates are made with care and love, but more importantly they taste great. All our food was really well seasoned and delicious. My only suggestion would be to make the portion bigger of the chalupa dish. It’s considered “Plato Fuerte” (big/heavy dish) on the menu but it will NOT fill you up at all. But all in all, great experience- and thank you for the free dessert for my sister who graduated!

2022-06-05We ate here for a late lunch in the spring and had the Mini Empanadas, delicious! The chicken Sofrito plus the Spinach ones were amazing. Fresh and tasty. We will be eating here again on our next trip to Queens! Staff was very nice and friendly.

2021-08-22First, I had the almond croissant which was fresh and soft. The almonds on top added a wonderful crunch to the pastry, but the filling was warm and subtly sweet. The size of the croissant is a single serving but you can split it with someone if you’re going to make it part of a larger meal. The empanadas were crispy and flaky, I only ate the chicken empanada. It is served with a sauce on the side, I can’t recall what it is but I added some to make the empanada creamy. The croque madame was a large serving, almost too much. It would have been an easy entree to share. It is covered with cheese that is melted over the fresh bread, and egg. The saltiness of the ham adds to every bite of spinach and crunchy toast. It was my first time trying Huevos Ibéricos and it was just as tasty as the madame. I think the cheese and meat are well balanced in the sandwich, and the cheese is a topping rather than a main ingredient like the Madame. It also comes with curly fries topped with marinara sauce.A refreshing serving of greens and tangy cranberries are what makes the cranberry and apple salad delectable. The walnuts are soft but add plenty of texture to the Parmesan cheese and mixed greens.Overall, I was not disappointed by any one item, but the Madame and Huevos Ibéricos are large servings so keep that in mind. The chef did an excellent job and the service was exemplary.

2021-08-07Delicious and cute neighborhood spot with great outdoor seating! The margarita was a bit sweet for my taste, but they have a great wine and beer collection. Started with Tequenas, which were little breaded cheese sticks - yum! Then had the burger and a veggie pizza. Great friendly service! Will definitely come back!

2021-10-17The staff very courteous and friendly. The Food VERY GOOD!!! HIGHLY recommended😍. We went for brunch looking for pancakes or waffles (because my friend is vegetarian) but, the spinach pancakes it wouldnt be something that I would recommend (I tried once and I didnt like the taste veggie/honey) probably because (for me not a good match) but, oatmeal pancakes with blueberries or peaches (on the sweeter side), also they didnt have a fruit bowl 🤔 the only things I would add to the menu😋. And also I have a question for the costumers in general! When we paid, a service for using the credit card was charged SVC something like that, it is this new?? I didnt remember seen it before at other restaurants🤷. Wasnt that much but, almost 4$ I can bring cash next time a save that amount not? 🙈...Im sorry but, fair is fair. Everyone have been affected by these harsh times 😔💔

2021-11-04Great ambiance, wide wine selection and, of course, Delicious food!! The margherita pizza was fresh and tasteful, topped with a fresh mozzarella Di bufala which gave it a unique touch. A woodside local gem, totally recommended!!
