Quiet park in front of the court house. Not a ton of nature and not a place to people watch but for an afternoon stroll while on jury duty, its the place to be.🙄
Great looking and tasting pastries on a bite of the pricey side. Its definitely something to explore and try out if you need to take a walk after finishing a nice meal in any of the fine dining establishments located on Bell Boulevard.
I loved how peaceful it was, rather tranquil and calm with the bus of city life, but still a place you can just sit down in the benches and admire the views.
Must visit place, for history bluffs or just to see the place where many movies and tv shows were filmed. Another kind of history...time goes on.
Never a dull moment at this Square: from people watching to demonstrations to movie shoots, something is always going on there.
There is a nice fountain in the square but there were MTA trucks blocking my view from the park bench. Didnt have much time to roam around since I was working but it looked like there was some interpretive items to explore.

COURT.... nothing good or uplifting around here👎 This is most certainly where youre going to be, should you encounter any legal issues, or jury duty. Typically, a gloomy area anyway, people arent generally around here for the areas pleasures, THATS for sure. Whether you work within one of the many intricately columned, roman-style courthouses, or if youre entangled in any of the many kinds of legal jousting, its not beauty, pleasure, or even relaxation which attract the many crowds of people to the square, daily.
NYC has Summer Streets once every year around August where you get to ride, walk, and run from Centre Street all the way up to Central Park. If youre in the city it is definitely a worth it experience that starts around Foley Square. Aside from that, the square isnt too busy so you can drop by and relax in the parks setting.

A love this place, yeah it is a small park but still clean and great view. There are a lot of people but the atmosphere is relaxing and you can hang out there in your break. There are a lot of places where you can find food and interesting drinks. The location is amazing.

State and Federal Courthouses were built on Foley Square. It was named Foley Square after Tom Foley only because he had recently died and the governor at the time Al Smith loved Tom Foley and wanted to honor him.
An Australian in New York, what an amazing experience. I absolutely loved it here especially on Sunday as its not as crowded and gives you enough spaces to explore the towering buildings that occupy this area. Packed with government buildings, high-end shops, restaurants, cafés and enough public spaces to sit and people watch. Foley Square, one reads about it but the icing on the top is to explore and mingle with locals and visitors alike and soak in the ambience of this famous Square.

Foley Square is an iconic NY location, surrounded by Pantheonic facades; indelible castles of the United States justice system. The fountain at its center is indicative of the powerful source of stability for democracy that a just, impartial, grounded, due process system provides the populace. That energy is ever flowing to the center of that iconic fountain, a massive hammer, sculpted in stone, which echos the clash of a gavel onto the base of a wooden pulpit. Were it not for the surrounding tyrannical mechanications of the police state in response to the threat of terror and instability, this park would be a welcoming and comfortable setting for introspection and appreciation for the very country it serves to exalt. Police K - 9s inspect every parcel, every vehicle, every individual that drifts from the base of the park to its surrounding premises, leaving the casual observer in a state of unrest. Were it not for this toxic concentration of conflictual energy surrounding this public forum, it would be a place for celebration, peace, and tranquility in an otherwise unstable landscape.
Riding the Summer Streets 🚲 from Foley Square to 72 St and Park Ave car free. Great fun.
Everyone should visit this area to see the magnificent architecture of the court buildings... and be sure to go inside... unbelievable detail in the domes and plaster and tile... Stunning architecture from the Gilded Age... you will immediately recognize the steps of the Supreme Court Building from the show Law and Order...
Came to see my daughter do a performance for Summer Street. Very spacious area and right in front of the courthouse. The water fountain added a good background for after photos.
This park always is in need of cleaning due to people relieving themselves in this park. Not a very relaxing park due to the constant demonstrations and political gatherings. No need to visit this park unless you are attending a rally or demonstration. Otherwise just keep walking.
Super park surrounded by court houses and history. Stroll around and read the signs of history or makes some of your own during Summer Streets. Every time I enter this little square there is always something going on. A few times I met up with demonstrations, tourists, events and great people.It has great benches, trees and a path.
Nice place to hang out. Clean and tons of restaurants. Very close to China town and Broadway Street. Subway is available for green and brown lines. Four stops away from the south ferry which you can ride it for free to see the statue of liberty 🗽

I guess if youre downtown and must see some courthouses, you could spend a few minutes here. Theres not much else to do, though.
A great underestimated part of history, most local just pass it by as the skateboarder just rail grind or Kick flip from it. A part of history thats treated by Parks & Recreation assigned to it. And sadly its treated instead of learned just as this part of our American History is... Sad that most bypass it...

Although the site is historical, it would improve quality of life if there were public restrooms usable at all times with an effective maintenance team.
I’ll keep it simple. Ate off the smoothie cart and was in near death mode for 3 days. Food poisoning. Don’t eat off the smoothie cart.They have a guy there that sells the most ridiculously oversized doughnuts you’ve ever seen. The other vendors are perfectly fine.Cool atmosphere. Totally New Yorker lunch area.Other than the assassination attempt on my life by the smoothie guy it’s all good.

Englishman in New York! Nice place to stop for a little sit and people watch. It sits in a hub of activity and will have you in awe of by simply staying still in Manhattan for 10 minutes you are awakened in how focus the average person is in their passion and sadly not the people around them ... It s a neat place near to gather around and chat with loved ones , place is in the proximity of Chambers street subway station . The whole construction around in the Victorian architecture gives a feel of living in renaissance period . Usually crowded and hustled in summer but calm in winter .
Touring Manhattan, we had to see downtown where all the government buildings are! Beautiful architecture, but they need better ways for the disabled to get around. It is a challenge to your this city because of that.

I had friends over from Ireland for a week at St. Patricks Day. Walking from the Brooklyn Bridge to Chinatown for dinner, I showed them the Federal Building and Foley Square where so many police and court TV dramas plus movies use for outdoor location filming. I showed them the courthouse steps at 60 Center St where Bulls Michael Weatherly had his famous heart attack. They saw that episode and were thrilled to be there. Its great to be a New Yorker and show off your hometown!
I took a stroll over here after walking the Brooklyn Bridge. The buildings are beautiful! It was also fun to see as I love the show Law & Order and it is routinely filmed here.

Beautiful buildings surround the square - not just a good place to rest your feet and take in the architecture, but is also a great place to see the New York County Supreme Court which is a must for any Law and Order fan!
This is the center of the Federal Plaza in downtown New York, but it is falling apart. The lights dont come on when its dark, the brickwork and cast sections of the walkways are crumbling and broken and no one cares. They dont even acknowledge why the place is falling apart. Its because it is a parking lot for news vans whenever there is a celebrity at the courthouse...which is weekly these days. It has become s skate park for skateboarders to destroy ss they grind the fountain.
The buildings are inpressive and their size is a bit intimidating. It is worth seeing.
Great place to gather for marches and protests., though I dont recommend going in winter. The tall buildings create wind funnels which make it frigid.
Foley Square is a lovely park amongst Federal Court houses. Lots of Mom & Pop eateries frequented by the legal community who work there as well as tourists and serving jurists doing their civic duty. The buildings are breathtaking, the architect remenicent of true artisans, the chiseled quotes on JUSTICE is food for thought. Sadly there are many indigent people sleeping on the park benches, deficating, tossing garbage and stinking up the area of the park. The Mayor needs to find out who these people are...assess the situation and fix the problem. It is unfortunate that the streets of NYC are looking very much like Los Angeles. Its a disgrace and taints the beauty of the greatest city in the world. Action is needed.
In the crossroads of the mighty American judicial system, its definitely a site to see! From the Federal building, to our pillars of justice of the state supreme courts and other governmental institutions, a 360 view of America in action!
Heart of the courts in NYC. Federal and state. Lots of history here. A nice fountain, convenient subway station. Blocks from city hall. Skateboarders seem to like stunting on the fountain and steps.
I love NYC. Im was really greatful to get the opportunity to march from this Square to the government offices in solidarity with the eviction moratoriums.

You can hear the Law and Order sound effect DUN DUN from anywhere in Foley Square across the street from the Courthouse. We were at the Lights for Liberty rally here Friday night. Genuine New York.

Comfortable park walking distance to FiDi, Chinatown, and Tribeca neighborhoods.City Hall and the Freedom Tower are short walks South.This park also serves as an unofficial marker of the original Five Points neighborhood.
This is where you could find the zip line ride for Summer Streets. I just have to say, no matter what time of the day, there is always a line. But the ride is short and line does move rather quickly.

A large area in lower Manhattan by the Brooklyn Bridge. It was used as the starting point for our Kidney walk. This is a 3 mile walk to raise money for kidney research.

What the heck is a picture of Woodbury Common doing in Foley Squares pictures? The Common is an outlet store place in Central Valley, New York, toward the Catskill Mountains. Not New York City. And I dont think the Common has anything named for Jacob Javits.
Lafayette is as professional as they come. Efficient and courteous service, solid drinks and wine and excellent food.

2022-06-21Being in the presence of my ancestors is a beautiful feeling. Im great ful to be around my history. Its beautiful up there and everyone should go see it. The one thing I dont like is that the fountain was very dirty and it was not on that needs to be corrected asap.

2021-08-11Plenty of room to walk around and take selfies or whatever. Because the pedestrian walkway is wide open people will not say anything or give you a weird look should you walk and stop. So enjoy looking at the beautiful architecture of the old buildings. Just pee first as there is no public restroom anywhere.Update: 8/12/21 Lucked out. Sick passenger caused the train to go express and stop at Brooklyn Bridge so I had to walk back to Canal Street. Caught them filming Law and Order.

2021-06-22Foley Square is a nice stop off for a rest on a park bench.City Hall, Municipal Building, federal and state courts, City Hall, Chinatown, African Burial site and other historical and architectural sites are a short walk away. Be wary of some homeless who are sometimes in the area.

2017-09-12The square is nearly completely surrounding by courthouses. A pretty impressive hub of judicial power! Considering the numerous high profile cases that have cycled through Foley Square, I found it to be an impressive place.

2019-01-07Area is nice and clean. The pedestrian walkway is wide and the people walking by dont give you a hard time should you get in their way by stopping to take a picture or admiring the architecture of the surrounding building, as they are beautiful.
