Fonda in other cities:
Fonda is a cute spot. Our waitress Angie was friendly and knowledgeable abt the menu. Gave good recommendations. The margaritas here are no joke. Nothing watered down here, you a getting that tequila baby. Lol. The guac was great. They make homemade tortillas!! I am not a flan person at all but theirs is so good! Also had the Pollo Horteño and that was delicious!! Chicken was tender and flavorful, plus the homemade tortilla that came in these cute containers to keep them warm?! ::chefs kiss:: Had the Mango Summer classic Margarita and that was slightly sweet with the spicy rim for a kick. And tried the Rosalita, this one is for anyone who wants more liquor. Packed a punch lol.
Let me just start with our host/ waiter; Carlos Benitez...he provided excellent service! All his recommendations were on point! The place is clean, cute & cozy.A variety of areas to be seated,;indoors /outdoors, street front / backyard.Food was delicious!Drinks were delightful!Ill definitely be back!🤗
Sat at the bar and the bartender was A M A Z I N G. So nice and helpful- made 15/10 drinks! Her name was Angie (she’s normally a server). Would return just for her even if the food wasn’t the best. That’s no problem though because the food was also SO good. Had the pollo taquitos, the enchiladas suizas, and the tres leches and everything was delicious! Amazing atmosphere and a definite must visit in brooklyn! Worth every $!
Ugh. I don’t like to give bad reviews for places that I would want to revisit, howeverrrrr….. I’ll start with the food was really tasty and drinks were good. All that said, it’s not enough to compensate us being rushed prematurely. I do work in hospitality and am conscious of the 90min reservation courtesy requests that have been put into effect since 2020. Twice we felt rushed within that time frame while there were 2 open tables in the street seating alone, plus multiple tables inside and who knows how many in their garden.Brunch pre fixe is $100 after grat, that’s a decent amount, but regardless of cost, every guest should be treated like you want them to come back. Small suggestion, don’t include 3 cocktails if you expect to turn tables quicker. Another suggestion: offering to move us to the bar to finish said cocktails could have easily lead to more sales (ie:dessert, coffee, or more cocktails). The table next to us chimed in with agreement as they too felt rushed. The server did apologize and offer us shots 🙄. But as I mentioned, the welcome wore off and we continued our patronage elsewhere. That being said, he wasn’t nasty, or unfriendly, just lacking some service savvy and the food was in fact tasty. So I would recommend it and this review is more for management to be aware of as that energy ruined an otherwise nice experience.
I found this place after COVID -19, great atmosphere. They have homemade authentic tortillas. I had steak tacos, they were good, salmon and guacamole had great flavors. We had two drinks the tamarin margarita (I didn’t like) and I forgot the other drinks name was good. They have outside dining, one in front and one in the back. The dinning in the back is very nice but the mosquitos were strong that day.
Park Slope doesnt have a ton of options for great Mexican food and while Fonda is solid, its not exceptional. The menu is definitely way more thoughtful and authentic than most, but dinner for two can easily get pricey.Recently, all of the dishes seem to be a little heavy-handed on sauces. They could use a slightly lighter touch so that you dont leave feeling weighed down.Their all you can drink brunch is a good deal though and its a fun, lively atmosphere.
Came for happy hour margaritas but was disappointed by how strict they were on these specials being at the bar only. Enjoyed the frozen rosalita, but it’s not worth the non happy hour price.Service wasn’t great—water was provided right away at the bar but we had to ask for it at our table. Despite arriving at 4pm on a Sunday, the host made a group of 5 without a reservation seem extremely inconvenient (despite a mostly empty restaurant then). Our server kept trying to up sell and while the food was good, I’m not sure it’s worth the prices either.
This bar gets crowded very quickly as soon as 4pm comes around for happy hour. If you get a seat or its a lite traffic day consider yourself lucky! The drinks are very well made & excellent bartenders. This place is pricey for dinner, but the happy hour & brunch are fantastic. The wait staff is friendly, knowledgeable, & provides great service.
What a great spot! We had so much fun! We went during Happy Hour and were told when we came in they were going to make us happy and boy did they do that. The drinks were tasty and well made. The food, especially the guacamole with the chips and little tortillas best ever. The service was impeccable from start to finish. My daughter and I have deemed this our favorite Mexican restaurant so far. Highly recommend.
What a delicious dinner. We sat in the awesome back yard with a great relaxed energy. We had some tasty drinks, some of the best guacamole ever and a couple of other amazing dishes. The carnitas ave the awesome salsa were perfect too. Fondas food and energy are terrific and everyone was friendly. The fresh warm tortillas were a great touch too. I cant wait to visit again and suggest you do too!
The food here is absolutely DELICIOUS. I had scallops and shrimp which was seasoned to perfection. My friends meals were wonderful as well.Im only taking a star off because when making the reservation over the phone, I was NOT told that we had to be finished eating in 2 hours. Additionally, initially the manager was curt in his explanation and simply said that should be more than enough time! Under normal circumstances, 2 hours during time would be sufficient. However, I was meeting with close friends that I havent seen in months and so we had lots to catch up on. At any rate, I guess someone was running late because about an hour later, the manager came over with a much better disposition and granted us a half an hour more...
Worst experience I’ve ever had at a restaurant. The host could not be bothered. He was incredibly rude to my 10 year old sister after he asked if she was vaccinated. He was upset that we did not have reservations despite the restaurant being almost empty. He didn’t walk us over to the table and just pointed to one in the back. He could not be bothered. We sat down for 3min and decided to leave given the way we were treated. After we left, he scoffed at us.
The vibe in this place is great! They have interesting cocktails that are inspired by more traditional drinks. The food is alright, seemingly fun combinations - but I wasn’t blown away. Pre-covid I spent $230 here between me and my friend for their birthday dinner. For the price, I would not choose Fonda for dinner again. However, I will likely return for cocktails and maybe small plates or tapas as happy hour.
This was the first restaurant I ate at after I moved into Park Slope! What a gem of a place. The food here is unique and the flavors are amazing! It’s a little on the pricier side, but the quality of the food is worth it. If you’re in the mood for a margarita, this is your place! They have some decent happy hour specials too. There is a quaint backyard area that is so lovely. Definitely check this place out!
Good food...but gets three stars for the terrible host!I called today to see if they had space for 2 people. The host told me that he had a table for 2 for 5:10-5:15 or we could sit at the bar. I chose the table and when I get there he said...RUDELY that it was a walk in table and he gave it to people who came before me.I don’t understand the point of telling me you have a table for me at 5:15 if you are going to just give it to someone else.Would recommend for the food but would think about coming back because of the nasty host.
Wanted to try Fondas yesterday, heard good comments about the food and drinks. Unfortunately we encountered a rude and unprofessional HOST/MANAGER from the evening shift. The owner should be more aware of who is placed in the front and represents their business. I went with two people and requested an outdoor table. I was unaware that reservations need to be made for outdoor sitting and decided to wait 30 minutes for a table inside (which was completely fine with me). If Im not mistaken I overheard a person who came after me in the same situation. The person was given a table outside. To confirm I asked the Manager/Host of the situation in which he responded in an unprofessional and defensive way -along the lines of she made reservations and you can go and ask her , her name is blank. Why would I lie. Whether it was true or not he shouldnt have responded in that manner.
I have been there plenty of times. MANY times the man in the front not sure if he is a manager or hostess, was very rude! But this sunday, halloween, he was by far the rudest he has ever been. The talk guy with glasses i believe dressed as Loki. His attitude was disrespectful and didnt even let me walk out of the restaurant before going to his co worker and saying he hates people like myself.
I’ve been here multiple time throughout the last 5 years & it’s always a good time. Food is great, drinks are great, and so is the atmosphere. Only thing that was different this last time I went is that they don’t offer bottomless anymore. So if that’s what you’re looking for, this won’t be the place for that.
Delicious Mexican food and amazing staff. I spilled some water like a clutz and 3 staff members rushed to clean it up right away! They treated me like gold. Perfect for date night or casual meal alone or with friends/ family. I wouldn’t go anywhere else for Mexican food in park slope.
We enjoyed Fonda a lot in the Before Times, although we did not go often: it was often difficult to get a table or a seat at the bar. Their style of Mexican (fancy + if Im not mistaken, Yucatan-style) is not my top favorite, but they do a fantastic job of it, and every dish Ive had here has always been really tasty. Service has always been gracious and shown attention to detail. They are the #1 refined-dining Mexican restaurant in Park Slope, hands down (Im not counting hole-in-the-wall/cheap taco places).COVID-era comments: I have been impressed with their attention to details during the pandemic in the two times we have dined on their outdoor patio in the back. Once their plastic menus felt damp as if they had been recently cleaned. All the workers appear masked indoors and outdoors any time that Ive seen them. They have a touch-less payment system, and the second time I came, they provided hand sanitizer. The person who appears to be the manager or owner takes pains to keep his distance. I cant speak to the indoor dining conditions, but it seemed rather full inside.
Today we went to Fonda restaurant around 5:30 pm to enjoy a nice meal, it is sad to say that our experience today was not the greatest. Firstly, we came to the restaurant with my 5 month old nephew who was in a car seat. We had made reservations for 4 people, including my nephew. Our waitress sat us in a table that was not convenient with the baby’s car seat, therefore, we kindly asked to be seated at a different table and the waitress who was not very pleasant, gave us a different table but blatantly told us that she needed our table by 7:00 pm. I had no problem giving up the table by 7:00 pm but the comment was just out of proportion. Secondly, the restaurant advertises happy hour, when we asked our waiter for a drink from the happy hour menu, she replied that happy hour only applies if you sit by the bar. Mind you there is no mention of this neither on their website, their restaurant menu and neither their nice happy hour sign they have posted outside their restaurant. We felt rushed and not well treated. I’ve been to Fonda many times for brunch, which has been a great experience. I won’t be coming back unless is brunch time. The waitresses are friendlier and more welcoming on Sundays. Not a great experience today.
You only get an hour of drinks included with the brunch portion. We sat at the bar with very few others and it was a struggle to get attention for more drinks. Also asked for chips and salsa and then guy said, Uhhh ...okay. and then brought the check instead. We werent charged for them, but they sure as heck never came. Its not a bad place. I love the burrito during brunch. The margaritas are okay. Just a struggle to get attentive service.
All I can say is wow. The food was amazing we ordered 3 different appetizers 2 Sharing plates and an entree each. And everything the 4 of us tried was very good. The skirt steak was cooked perfectly the sauces were great. My wife had the shrimp and scallops and they were some of the best I had. The short rib was melt in you mouth soft with tons of flavor. I would definitely come back again to try other items on the menu. They place also has outdoor seating but its first come first serve so the reservations are for inside only. Still it was very nice and we enjoyed our evening
Food was delicious! We decided to share a few tacos, which were all top quality. Thursday nights 50% off wine bottles and sangria pitchers is a great deal, and I would go back just for the sangria. Next time we go, well venture more into the entrees, all of which looked good, but were certainly more pricey.
Obviously much more bougie than the humble fonda after which its named, but the quality of the food is outstanding. The margaritas are delicious and the caramel cake divine. They have seating on the road, as well as in the back, and the back yard especially is very cozy, almost romantic.
Ive been going to Fonda for years now and the food is always delicious - I especially like their guacamole and their happy hour appetizers. I have the hibiscus margarita everytime Im there and it never disappoints! However, one point that could be improved upon - the hosts attitude. He is never pleasant - always borderline hostile. But dont let that dissuade you from visiting Fonda - the food is really worth it and the servers are always friendly and attentive.
One of the best Mexican restaurants ive been to in the NYC area. Its sophisticated and very tasty. Portions are big and the cocktails are amazing (especially the rose margarita).Perfect restaurant for a date. We had reservations but when I walked in it was packed on a Tuesday night. I definitely see myself coming back here.
The restaurant is small but cozy. The guacamole with chips is a great appetizer very delicious. The drinks were on point and so were the fish tacos. From the hostess to the wait staff they were all great I would definitely recommend this restaurant and come back again
Ordered their Huevos a la Mexicana with a side of skirt steak. My friend ordered the salmon entree with sweet potato mash. The eggs were great and spicy. The skirt steak wasn’t as yummy as it used to be so that was disappointing. The salmon was delicious but there was sooo much mash and it was overwhelming. Also the presentation of that dish was poor. Kept messing up the photos lol.
L was surprised with the bar bill ,Two mixed drinks, $15.95 and $14.95 as well as $4.95 for a 12 ounce Sprite for $4.95 rounding out to $39+ and a tip for the bartender, for which l added $8.00. The food portions were small. The food was unusually expensive based on portion size. The food was not exceptional. The location is tight but the staff were very nice.
The food was delicious and arrived quickly. Although the space is cramped, the service was still attentive. Everything had the right amount of spice and kick. The prices are more than a mexican takeout place, but you are getting gourmet mexican food. Call ahead for reservations of four or more during busy dinner hours. The atmosphere is lively but somehow still laid back.
A small and cozy place, and it gets crowded. I was lucky to get in without a wait, Id recommend reservations if you can. The service was good, and I really recommend the enchiladas, especially those with the mole sauce. Some of the best mole Ive ever had! They also have a good $5 happy hour menu if you get there before 7 Tues.-Thurs. or before 6 on Friday or Saturday.
Delightful garden space. Good booze - cocktails and selection of mezcal and tequila, and good guac. Didnt order food. Quite pricey - pay attention especially to the prices if you order some shots neat. Multiple pours at $22 a shot surprised my companion and added up fast.
This restaurant is my first choice site. Of all restaurants I know I favor it most. I never miss an opportunity to go to visit this restaurant. everytime I feel like having a good dinner, this is the place that comes right away to my head. splendid and varied food and a rich menu.trained team, and agreeable vibes. And very important, the charge is honest. I praise this place with no hesitation.
I am a huge fan of Mexican food and had a great meal recently at Fonda. My fiance and I had the guacamole to start which comes with a good portion of warm tortillas and chips. As for entrees, I ordered a sauteed shrimp dish served over creamy rice and beans while my fiance got skirt steak; we shared a side of plaintains. I really like spicy food and these dishes had a good amount of kick, so beware to those who cant do a lot of spice.Decor is fine and the space appears small, but they have outdoor seating in the back. Service was extremely helpful. My fiance had to send her skirt steak back because she has a cream/dairy allergy -- the sauce contained dairy even though the first waiter said it didnt have any. The second waiter who helped us quickly took care of the issue and even comped us the entree. Great customer service!
Classic Mexican restaurant with a fun cocktail selection featuring the usual suspects (Tequila and Mezcal). Guacamole is a standout. Spicing is done right and they frequently offer a very tasty seasonal specials that are worth exploring.Definitely also a very underrate spot for brunch, with solid food and very good drink deals.
I wanted to wait until coming back here again before writing a review to make sure its actually as good as I thought it was. And as most people have discovered... it is.The waitstaff knows the menu and arent afraid to make smart recommendations or describe dishes. This is appreciated, as the menu is a bit adventurous for the South Slope and its good to know stuff.Despite it seeming like there is always a mid-scale Mexican place opening up, Fonda is really good with the food. I loved the nutty sauce on the seafood enchiladas, though I kind of wished it didnt completely cover the taste of the shrimp. I liked my pozole, and while I was willing to try it with chicken, it is much better with pork.On the brunch side, the breakfast burrito is great. Plentiful, tasty, a bit spicy and very satisfying. And speaking of satisfying, their rice and beans have taste. Its clear they actually care about them, which in turn makes me happy. And the guac and chips are standard, but just fine.Im glad Fonda has raised the bar for Mexican in the neighborhood. We deserve good food.
We had the worst experience with entree last night. I ordered chilaquiles and it had nothing but a little slice of avocado and fried tortilla chips. NOTHING ELSE! For this “good for nothing” stupid meal, they charged $17. The guacamole for two people contained pnly one avocado, how can it be enough for two people???The server asked how the food was and did not even wait to hear us out about the food.I strongly suggest- do not go there!
Sub-par at best. We were seated too close to the kitchen and my husband had his sangria spilled on him by the wait staff twice. There are far better places in the area that are less expensive, better tasting and far more authentic. Im honestly surprised that theyve stayed around this long.
Ive been here a couple of times, once for brunch, which was quite good. Their hibiscus margarita is a must. I dont particularly enjoy margaritas with salt, but you have to do it here - its the same flavor and makes for an amazing drink. Short walk from the subway with lots of fun things to explore along the way.
My first time there I took my family wife and son.. My wife love it she had fun she love the food keep saying its something different. My son had a hard time finding him something to eat but finally we got him Tacos. I had the same problem as my son but steak and shrimp fit me perfectly .
This place has been riding a hype wave for some time now. The constant crowd of Fondites have brought me back several times, thinking I somehow missed something....I havent. I found the portions to be small and the quality of food to be slightly below what I would expect from an average restaurant. Likewise, the margaritas were equally underwhelming.Better Mexican can be had elsewhere in the same neighborhood and, for those looking to dust off their walking shoes, North Slope has a few good Mex spots too.
The food at Fonda is amazing. Ive ordered nearly everything on the menu and have not been disappointed with a single dish. Some of my favorites include the tortilla soup, enchiladas suizas, and pork adobo. Their margaritas are excellent, as well. The restaurant has a nice atmosphere, and I especially love their back terrace when weather permits. The reason I withheld a star is that the service is very hit/miss. I really love the food so I accept the inferior service (ex. missing hostesses, longer than desired waits, incorrect orders, etc.), but I know that not everyone will tolerate it.If youre looking for excellent, high-end Mexican, I definitely recommend Fonda.
I came the night of Cinco De Mayo to have dinner with my best friend. We arrived a few minutes early for our 9pm reservation, however, the host seated us anyway. He handed us our menus and told us that our waiter would be with us shortly. It seemed that’s where the hospitality came to an end. We waited for someone to come to our table other than the bus boy who continued to refill our water glasses. Unbeknownst to us, the waitress who was waiting on the tables in are section, was indeed our waitress. 15 minutes passed before she decided to approach the table asking if we were ready to order. It seemed as though everyone else in her section were a priority except us. Our drinks took about 15 mins to come and the food was another 35-40 mins. I think what made the situation even more unbearable was when the party of 6 and a few other parties were seated. She didn’t wait long to greet them and was very attentive. It was at this point I realized how selective she was being, as were the only 2 black women in her section. I’ve worked in customer service long enough and I frequent many establishments often, but this by far has been my most disappointing experience.
Went on a Friday night and waited 20m to get a seat for 3 of us. Seated us outside in the lovely patio with a high chair for the little lad. Lovely frozen margherita (house one) - and two solid main courses (carne asada and prawn dishes). Service was great and would definitely come back.
Good beans are sorely underrated these days, and Fondas are excellent, in any incarnation. Their salads are fresh, their entrees tasty and filling, their margaritas a little dangerous. And the esquites -- limey, cheesy, spicy corn of the gods! My only issue with Fonda is that I usually eat too much there and need some time to recover, but thats on me.
Definitely if you dont have a reservation you cant dine in the place. Crazy enough last month I walked in at 5pm she said you have reservations I said no, she said there is no tables till maybe 9pm. I went outside went on the reservation tab on my phone and sure enough their was a 6pm, 7pm etc table available. Hmm pretty shady if you ask me? I ended up going to Chela on 5th Ave gotta say is my new Mexican spot the drinks were incredible, portions HUGE with no table cramping. Dont get me wrong I like Fonda but why deal with all the red tape.
There simply is not a better place to get Mexican food in the area. Ive been numerous times and tried many different items, but I just keep coming back to the carnitas. They are light and juicy, with huge portions (take some home). I do wish they came with more torillas. 3 Jair doesnt cut it.The flan dessert is also the best flan Ive ever had. And Im not a flan person. Dont skip this. One tip: make a reservation. The place is small and its hard to just walk in (even on a Monday night) without a 30+ minute wait.
If you’re looking for authentic Mexican in a fun and low-key neighborhood, check out the Brooklyn location of this restaurant chain. seating is cozy, and tables are perfect for two — great if you’re looking for an intimate night out. In addition, their guac is to die for, and is always made fresh. If you and your boo are fans of hot food, let your server know — they’ll pile on the spice just right for your taste buds. They even have an awesome brunch menu, which, of course includes Bloody Marys to satisfy your early afternoon cravings/cure your last night’s date hangover.
Fonda is the perfect neighborhood restaurant. I am proud to take out-of-towners here when they are visiting me in the Slope. The service is spot-on and the ambiance is romantic and buzzing. You can dress casually, but Fonda still makes you feel that you are part of a happening, elegant scene. The food and drinks are incredible. Order the guacamole and a dish with mole sauce. You wont regret it.
Finally made it to Fonda this past weekend after longingly passing it on the street for months. It was absolutely delicious. So delicious, in fact, that we made it back a 2nd time in the same weekend. Brunch is a must. You pretty much cant go wrong picking what to eat. The outdoor patio is fantastic when its warm enough out. Even the beans and rice are loads better than any other mexican place around. Definitely want to go back to try a margarita.
I had never been to Fonda and went for valentines because they had a reasonable price prix fixe. Ill start with the bad. We had to wait around 30 minutes in the freezing cold after arriving at our reserved time, the hostess mumbled our name so quietly if we hadnt been right behind her we wouldnt have heard and Im wondering if that was her intention, tables seated after us were served guac and drinks before us even though we ordered before them, and they ran out of one of the desserts which I had been excited for. Otherwise the experience was pretty good. The guacamole was good and you could get it with chips or tortillas which worked out well because my girlfriend and I prefer different things. The sopa de tortilla was terrible for me, borderline inedible. It tasted like a bowl of salty chicken gravy. The flautas were amazing, fresh and crispy and highly recommended. The pollo norteno was good as well, well seasoned and the cured red onions gave it a nice contrast. My girlfriend got the carne asada which was cooked well and not too mushroomy, the sauce was rich and creamy and we both enjoyed it. For dessert I we had the tres leches and some apple empanadas. The tres leches was very good though I didnt enjoy the empanadas. I had a hibiscus margarita with my meal, Im not a huge tequila fan and it was ridiculously strong but I could see it being enjoyable.Even with the negatives I would definitely return to Fonda, I hope I can update my review to 4 stars next time.
Go here! Great margaritas, try the cucumber or watermelon. Also try the chicken enchiladas and the scallop and shrimp dish. Both are fantastic and rich. The style is oaxacan/ny Mexican if you can imagine that. The service was great and was topped off tantalizing salted caramel ice cream, a very nice gesture from the manager.
To say that Fonda is amazing doesnt even give it justice. This is definitely one of my favorite restaurants in the city. Ive been here a couple of times so far and each experience has been a wonderful treat. Its refined and upper-scale Mexican dining at its finest. The brick-lined space is pretty cozy and intimate but they have a small backyard open in the spring and summer. This past weekend I happened to have an amazon voucher that I long forgot about and invited my friend to partake in the culinary delight. We ordered for an appetizer the flautas de pollo. Crunchy on the outside, stuffed with chicken and covered with salsa verde, pasilla de oxaca salsa, queso fresco and crema. A mind meld of flavors both tangy, savory and sweet. I love queso fresco. For our entrees we ordered a dish of Enchiladas Suizas, which Ive sampled before. They are delicious! You get three enchiladas stuffed with chicken, creamy tomatillo sauce, and Chihuahua and Oxaca cheeses. I decided to be adventurous and try something Ive never ordered here before and something of which I noticed was a fairly new addition to the menu: Carne Guisada Con Rajas. Or in English Beef Brisket. This brisket was falling apart it was so moist and succulent, sitting in its dripping juices of a mushroom gravy with roasted lime pickled poblano strips freckled on top. So delicious that when we were done with our entrees and sopping up their beans and rice, which the beans are great and have a hint of mole and a thick paste-like texture, my friend across the table asks: Can I put my beans in your sauce?!For desert we topped it off with their tres leches cake. Ive never tried their deserts here before because usually were always tempted to get more than one appetizer. But the desert was top notch. A medium sized mound of fluffy cake, sitting in a bed of Chantilly cream with fresh berries. If this is that good, Im tempted to try the Morenitas chocolate brownie next time Im in. YUM.Cocktails here are STRONG. You definitely get what you pay for out of your Margaritas. All of which have very unique flavors. They also have a wonderful happy hour when their drinks and select appetizers are discounted. Though, their happy hour ends very early Tues-Thurs at 7pm and on Weekends at 6pm. Race home from work or fake a doctors appointment. Its that good. I would recommend for other food dishes to definitely try the Pork Adobo and Carne Asada. The Guacamole is fantastic and you can adjust it if you want it mild, medium or spicy. They also have a fantastic brunch menu and I recommend actually trying their burger. It sounds crazy. But the medley of sauces and salsas on it is pretty outstanding. Also, get reservations if youre doing dinner here because you can be waiting over an hour easily without them.
This is one of my favorite Park Slope spots. I always get the same thing - Chicken Chilaquiles Rojas and a Rosalita (hibiscus flavored frozen tequila drink). Food is always reliably delicious and the drinks are fabulous. I think the bottomless brunch option is a good deal. Service is always very good, if a little too attentive at times. Guac is delicious as well!
After wanting to dine at Fonda for what must be years at this point, I maybe had high expectations for my first experience.Upon arrival, I was earlier than my dinner mate so I ordered a glass of wine, but at 7pm, the bartender was out of clean wine glasses. We were seated at one of the cramped tables in the front of the restaurant to begin our meal with the spicy guacamole and chips. Sadly, the guacamole was just meh. not too spicy (but wow, that chipotle side sauce was good), the chips were like razors in my mouth and the enchiladas suizas were served in rather thick corn tortillas in an overly limey sauce. Not exactly impressed so I doubt I will return, at least to this location.Important: If youre dairy-free, be sure to specifically ask for no cheese on every dish. Despite us letting the server know of my partners food allergy, they still put it on the guacamole and the beans, which were shared items.
Worst experience ever. They literally told us they can seat our Party of 4 outside in the back WHERE NO ONE WAS SITTING OUTSIDE AND THE TABLES WERENT EVEN READY and it was raining!!!! The tables inside were fully open. And it wasn’t even busy. The waiter was rude and not customer friendly. It’s not the “real” authentic food you’d think it is . Just would never go back again.
Cozy and elegant Mexican place for dinner with a bar offering some cool drinks. This place over the weekends is always buzzing with people and waiting can easily be an hour long so reservation in advance helps. For non vegetarians many out of the norm options to choose from while vegetarians can enjoy from their two entrées, vegetarian enchiladas and Chile Relleno De Espinacas which is stuffed roasted poblano pepper with pine nuts, served with epazote goat cheese. Sip in some Argentinian Malbec red wine while relishing freshly made Guacamole to tease the taste buds at the beginning. Hibascus water with actual petals topping the drink is the best non alcoholic beverage to explore. Of course dont forget to end your dining experience with sweatness of Tres Leches. Entrées can get a little on salty side and bill towards pricier.
You would think with sunset park around the corner that there were enough mexican restaurants to satisfy the neighborhood, but fonda takes mexican cooking to a new level. the margaritas are also sublime, and the front of house is always on the ball. the only consistent downside is that the music is usually loud, and seemingly inappropriate for what is a much better than average restaurant.
To expensive for a Mexican place.had a for 6 people will not let us sit till all the whole party of seven came together.for this area this place should have a little consideration because it is hard to get a parking spot so it may take long for everyone in you party to show up all at once.i even had my credit card on file for them to charge me a $25 dollar fee if every one did not show up.never again.some restaurants think there high end then other restaurants.los margaritas in bay ridge Brooklyn puts this place under the water and there food is better and cheaper.
Wonderful dinning experience both the food and ambiance the wait staff is very knowledgeable of the food being served the bartender is first class the manager is very attentive and last but not least the hostess is simply wonderful making sure we were attended in a timely manner and making sure we were comfortable Sandra was a delight a wonderful evening was had by all

2022-05-08Just ate here with a group of friends. They have outdoor seating both in the front and back of the restaurant, as well as inside. The food is excellent, everything is fresh and home made, including their delicious spicy sauces and chips. I’ll definitely eat here again. Also they have a good selection of tequilas, as well as specialty drinks.

2022-05-06Came here on a Wednesday evening and didn’t have to wait long for a table. The tacos and birria are really good and enough for two people to share. The cocktails were also delicious and came with free shots for a sponsor (which was nice). Will definitely be back to try more of their options in the future!

2022-07-05Got a couple of drinks. Rosalita was strong and good. The La Piñata was also pretty good. The guac was very small, and served in a weird stone mortar with tons of holes that the guac would fill up. The chips were a bit stale. For $15 guac, it’s definitely not good enough in size or taste. The enchiladas suizas was good as well as the enchiladas de mole. The service was pretty bad, server would check in on the few tables around us then disappear for over 10 min. We had to request the check from another server to get to our movie on time. Will not be coming back.TL;DR: Drinks are ok, avoid guacamole, enchiladas were good. Service wasn’t good.

2022-06-15We went there for a date. Food and drinks were great, but I’m getting off one star, because the host was not very pleasant (we wanted to wait for the table outside and there was no way to be seated inside and then moved outside, which is pretty regular in other restaurants. We stayed at the bar for a drink and very moved after that)Apart from this I really enjoyed the evening.Hibiscus margarita and Avenue B - those drinks are so tasty, highly recommend

2022-07-28Dinner at Fonda is always a good decision. The chips and guacamole are always excellent (try it spicy!) and the enchiladas suizas are the best in New York City. The flavor is so rich. The backyard seating is very nice and has great date night ambiance. The drinks are awesome too - my favorite is the rosalita.

2022-02-16First time ever at this place and was overall pleased. The drinks were good, the tortilla soup was delicious and the entrees were very good. A little pricey, but you get what you pay for.

2021-11-30Great brunch spot, still dreaming and lusting for that shrimp with cilantro rice and creamy garlic sauce. Menu says it wasn’t available for brunch but it was definitely a popular dish from looking at the tables near us. There’s a brunch special which is a good deal, includes 3 drinks per person, which obviously isn’t ideal for everyone lol so make sure you go with people who handle their liquor. We sat in the backyard garden with really good overhead heaters. Only dislike was service, waiter seemed irritable and annoyed about how long it took for us to decide what to order, then failed to check or offer water throughout our meal. When paying the check, he stood directly above the card reader closely monitoring each tip which made us extremely uncomfortable.

2022-03-16I was so excited for Mexican night... What an overall letdown! JS3.5The Spicy Blood Orange margarita was a JS8.2!The Strawberry mojito JS0.0... The beginning of the end... This drink was just poorly made and was sent back. The guacamole was good at a JS8.0. It was all about the amazing chips, sause and mini tortias.Pico de Gallo, JS3.1.. should have been called onion salad...Grilled fish tacos JS0.0... They arrived with a smell that made us think the fish may have turned, and our first bite had them headed back to the kitchen ...Ensalada De Aguacate Y Zanahorias... JS0.0 this was a sad moment for me.. There was a hair in the first bite if the salad.. A long, hair that was not mine...Esquitesz z Calabaza Con Colecitasz, JS4.4Herradura Blanco, finally, something worthy of a JS9.2The host was slightly annoying however our waitress Angie was very sweet!

2021-08-23Bright brunch spot with great drinks. The food here is decent but the service is quite slow. The atmosphere is perfect for a brunch spot. I highly recommend the guacamole which came with chips and tortillas. They have a great brunch deal - 3 STRONG drinks and an entree for a set price.

2021-05-07The service here was great! Friendly and always making sure that everything was OK. If you plan to go here, call or go on their site to reserve a table or you can be lucky like I was to get a table outside last minute. Food was great and the drinks were too. The margaritas are a good try! It was a bit pricey, but just being out and about these days makes it worth it! I will be going back again!
