They are slow, the managers are incompetent. The line goes to the back of the store, and no help for the cashiers to pack. The seniors all want to have a long conversation. You wait on the Express line,just as long as the regular line, because the signs are not clear and no one to enforce it. The aisles are not marked as to where to find things ,so you walk around and around. The line for the deli counter merges with the checkout line. In a nutshell is a S$$T SHOW.
This shop has a great selection of fresh produce and other basics at low prices; for ex., today, I paid only $5 for a 5-oz. container of salad and a pint of blueberries, which look plump and appetising.The only consistent downside is service, which ranges from inefficient to atrocious. Ive waited in checkout queues far too long becausethe cashier was slow or verifying a price took forever. Today, in Lane 5, the cashier ringing me up barely acknowledged me, as she was too busy running her yap, as were all her co-workers; I had to repeat to her that I didnt want a carrier bag and ask another employee twice to move aside so I could pass. Ive also noticed that price labels are missing from shelves so that, for ex., I had to bring several cartons of eggs up to the checkout till to get the best price -- all signs of laziness and lack of care
Narrow aisles and not much space or great labeling, its hard to find something the first time you go there. It has great prices for the city though, theyre not bloated prices like you find at Whole Foods and stuff.Perfecto si eres latino y quieres encontrar un par de productos de tu país!Its a great big and compact supermarket for those on a budget and who are bothered by the lack of options in a deli.
This place is terrible. But theres 2 positive points. Will list below.Positive1. Its cheap2. Open kinda lateNegative1. Two times my credit card number had been stolen from here!!! I know its them cause I bought nothing else except groceries from here. Then the shady Western Union in the Bronx transactions start.2. Checkout lines are crazy slow and long!3. Half the food is past expired4. Its dirty everywhere5. Often drug addicts outside6. Nothing is in order you will have a hard time finding anything and nothing makes sense.7. Staff is terrible. No English and wont help you find anything. Crazy slow at checkout lines. Then give you an attitude half the time.Bottom line. If you want to waste time on rotten food and long lines only to end up getting acard number stolen then go here!
They have a large variety of products from good to low quality for the most part it is nice that the facility is open late. Although the posted sign say 12 am they will close 30 min before the indicated time. This is not a place to be during rush hour because you will be waiting at the register for awhile and dont expect help from employees they all look like they have a chip on their shoulders.
Good convenient option with decent prices, has pretty much everything you need. If your timing is off you might catch them before they’ve stocked what you’re looking for or find boxes of un-stocked products blocking the shelves. But staff are willing to help.
I only go here because its the largest market in the area and the food is not always super fresh. They do have a large variety of items which I appreciate.
Selection good price is OK.problem is you can’t shop in peace because isles are crowded with boxes.because they stock during the busiest times instead of stocking at night all isles are blocked you can’t reach for what you want.
I really do love the supermarket great employees, but I cant wrap my brain around the fact that Food universe will have certain prices for certain things and not others, like for example, theyll have a 12 pack of Coke on sale and not Diet Coke 12 pack. Such a joke what does Diet Coke have more cocaine that it never goes on sale with reg. Coke products. Foolishness really. Ill buy it somewhere else henceforth. - Yvette (disappointed customer)
This is the most choiciest supermarket of the entire city of New York and theres no comparison whatsoever. I have been shopping here since they first opened and will highly recommend it to all my friends. Keep up the good work!!!!
Some of the cashiers are nice but many times I come across one I say hello to that will not say nothing to me but the next person behind me they will say hello and be polite in Spanish. They guys and other workers are very friendly and polite.
Thats the best supermarket around this area, good prices, fresh food and good service n they deliver the groceries. They been always there during the pandemic they been the best.
Very good selection, easy to find what you need. It does get crowded, and staff make an effort to get you through quickly. But it would be faster if they spent less time following people thru the aisles. Good supermarket otherwise.
This groceries store overcharges, and the people who work there arent very friendly at all. The cashiers act like they are doing you a favor, to ring up your items. They are constantly speaking their native tongue of Spanish, judging you for the products you purchased. And they will try to laugh at you for the way you look. Since I am a thick woman, I take this as being highly offensive. Cashier you are there to wait upon people and ring up their items. Not judge them and then talk about them in Spanish where they cannot understand and rebuttal your comments of them.... not cool......
Food Universe: an above-average selection of universal-American, Asian, Mexican and South American Groceries. Are you looking for an interesting, cheap to try? Check. Hosting a sushi party, but forgot the wasabi? Boom. Live in a five-floor walkup and dont feel like lugging your groceries? Pay a nominal fee, and theyll send someone out the door with you, to help!! This place would absolutely get four stars, if there checkout experience ran a bit faster, and if they brought back their awesome loyalty program--you used to get dollars off your total with a few hundred points, where $1 =ed 1 point. Twas incredible! Lastly, they have a very friendly deli-counter staff...Dont forget to stock up on deli treats, here. ;)

Love my local supermarket, they have quite a wonderful variety of many products from around the world. As a Cuban, they stock Hierba Buena which I can use to make my mojitos in proper form. Been shopping here for years always find something new and interesting to use when Im cooking or making drinks!

My wife Went to get food for my child and the black cashier lady was rushing her. She happened to leave her debit card at home by accident and they cancelled the whole transaction without her telling them so. She was on the phone with me as all this was happening. She was gonna punch in my card number and he said they dont do that (but the other manager has done it without the physical card before). So She was gonna have to pay cash. She tells the manager to rescan because she never said to cancel anything. He said we close at 12a.m. Ok. And ?! It was only 11:40pm. They had time to rescan everything. So they started rescanning and she told him to please change that attitude because this is not good customer service. He said she got issues. She was already having a horrible week and was trying to be nice but his comment pissed her off. Shes a sweet person and always shops there. So he said to go shop somewhere else that hes not scanning anything. Shes telling him that this is all food for my daughter and he didnt care. He said they not scanning anything. (Now we’re home with nothing to give our daughter until another supermarket opens in the morning.) So she cursed at him and push some of the food towards the floor because he was being a total ass for no reason. Calling her stupid for telling him “how to treat a customer,” so she called him a juevon. Those cashiers there talk more than what they work. Its crazy at the level of disrespect these little managers give becasue they think they better than other people. Yeah ok. My wife is a medical assistant moving onto nursing. Youre just a manager. You have a job. She has a career. Stupid asses . Smh. Dique not to shop there anymore. Like who are you exactly dude ?
Local grocery store. Serves a wide selection of global food varieties. Fresh affordable produce. Weekly sales and discounts.
While they are still a basic support it, they have been slowly expanding out the quality of the food and different offerings they have to customers that they serve in the community. They have more organic options these days and are a good quick solution as opposed to going to theyre more expensive competitor down the hill.

This place is extremely racist and treat black people differently its ran by Dominican bigots who think they can belittle folks who arent their race. I will never spend my money here again. They have a delivery boy who is black and the things they were saying about him was the vilest things anyone could ever say ex Making him work harder then the others.
Products are marked up over retail price and value, express lane is the slowest line to wait on, seems like theyre catering to gentrification of the area but even white people catch on to the over priced bs.
The greens are the freshest ive seen in the neighborhood and its the only store nearby that carries escarole
Been going here for 3 yrs it is closest to me right round corner. Ctown is a few blocks. Thats it. They are prejudice if you dont speak Spanish. Mostly Dominicans. The sale items rarely scan so keep an eye on that register.They pick and choose what you can get on WIC. They dont let you scan your club card or use coupons with WIC which is a violation. Im reporting them. Since COMPARE merged withFOOD UNIVERSE I have been using my club card and havent received one point. The manager Angela is rude tells my husband when he is fighting for a sale price to go somewhere else to shop and she walks away saying she going on break. Another mgr short guy with glasses not FLACO accused my husband.of shop lifting humiliating him meanwhile he had just purchased $80 worth food. He.accused him of taking mustard. My husband emptied his pockets and he had rx meds in his pocket he just came from Duane Reade. It almost came to blows their way especially that they see us there several times a day every week. We are their bread and butter they treat us with such disrespect. I dont know how they keep their jobs.
Keep an eye on the screen as cashier scans your items. You might end up paying a higher price then the one you saw on the signs throughout the store, even when you scan your discount card.
There pretty cheap It really depends on item between there and target I usually get everything I need they have alot of sales every Thursday they start.The lines be a bit much at times

The produce isnt as fresh as I would like. Also, the aisles are very long and skinny and arent clearly marked on both ends, making it difficult to see what is on the aisle unless youre on the end with the sign. .
Had to leave after a watched a manager harass an elderly lady about wearing a book bag while shopping. When I asked for more information about the policy he tried to intimidate myself and became threatening. So I left I full cart and walked out with my children. This is why I stopped shopping local and travel to trader Joes or target.

Non diversital shopping expwrience large variety in selection of giis prixycts but, staff is primarily Hispanic and rhey arry on conversations with ezch other instead of paying attention to tbhe customers.
Decent place to shop overall. My only complaint is the lack of open registers. It take a while to check out even in the express aisle.

Better produce section than the market on 146th and Bway but the lines take forever here for some reason.
I love this place ! They are super stocked to the top with everything like a warehouse .. only thing I dislike is that it is kind of cramped , and it do be a lot of shoppers trying to squeeze by or turn around due to the small ailse
While they are usually convenient due to the fact that they CLAIM to be open until midnight, they randomly decide to close earlier on certain days.

2022-06-06Regular but wel stocked Keyfood place with some special extras. Its amazing how much difference the checkout experience makes. For years Ive complained about the slow checkout and Express counters that didnt work as Express. Lately all that has changed. The checkout has got way better as has the experience of shopping here. Good to have a friendly local place and self checkout counters with friendly staff to assist and keep them moving fast.

2020-11-20Arguably your best in the area in terms of selection. Somewhat pricey... and you can find good selection of produce from multiple vendors on the street just outside for less than half the price inside. FUs meat prices are killer though. Also, depending on the time of day, lines may be crazy long. I try to avoid the 530-6pm after-work rush. One evening I was stuck in line for over half an hour! Solid overall, though. I do most of my shopping here.

2021-06-20Produce has never been acceptable. And the meats are old and sometimes tainted. Only thing I trust are canned and bottled goods. Its as third world as the closed down McDonalds next store. Lazy and uncaring employees. Surprised if they get past this year. Be prepared to pay 57 cents for a bag if you dont have your own. Where they came up with that number Ill never know lol!

2021-05-18Only one manager here who is the best you can tell he doesnt only care about spanish people like the rest of them in there. I call.him superman because thats who he looks like lol. The rest of the workers only care for you if u look like them. The meat department absolutely REEKS. and its expensive as all hell. Only come here if you have too. Trader Joes is cheaper than this place.

2019-08-21I love this super market! Has a large variety of food! Employees are sweet and has fresh produce! I love the large variety of Hispanic food and spices considering that I’m Hispanic and it’s hard finding certain things. Service is quick! I recommend this place for a shopper who would like to go to a large supermarket!

2020-03-03Pretty solid grocery store. A bit expensive but what grocery store (besides Trader Joes) isnt expensive in the city? Their deals are good though, so I usually just shop for those. The deli is good too and they usually have lots of sales there. The (raw) chicken is usually slimy on the outside of the package and thats really gross though. Produce isnt bad. Great Latin/Hispanic food selection.

2021-08-18The supermarket rips off customers with misleading sales promotion. When I told the manager, my groceries were ringing up wrongly on cash register. He got upset and forbade me from shopping in the store.
