I been living in this neighborhood for 30+ years and been shopping at this super market for 20+ years, I watched it go from Super Associated to Pioneer and now it Food Universe. I never had a much of a problem with this supermarket until about two weeks ago went I came in for a bottle oil. The oil was advertised for $5.99 and when I went to the register it was ringed up for $8.99.I sad to the cashier this must be some type of mistake and she immediately caught an attitude with me. So I asked for a manager and she directed me to a thick Indian lady with a ponytail. It Was early in the morning around 9am so I figured The real manager wasnt in yet so this lady was the one in charge at the moment. She told me there was nothing she can do, but as soon as I asked for her bosses number the issue was rectified. Im so disappointed and upset that I dont think I can shop there again. most of the workers are unpleasant and have bad attitudes. And Im not going to patronize a store that has false advertisement!
Lines arent too long and the a lot of the stuff is cheap, only complaint is that the store is a bit crowded and small :(
No stars! The brainless, unfriendly cashiers are one thing, but the management is horrific. No place to move around, unorganized shelves and just overall moral of this business is unprofessional.
I have lived in this neighborhood for over 40 years and the store has changed just like the community. The store is very small cant move around with ur shopping cart, I dont buy the meat only staples produce. Bargain always on bread & eggs. Most staff is friendly.
This food universe is inhumane. Did my grocery shopping and my heart is not happy to see the employees in their coats scarves and coats working because it freezing in the supermarket. I am filing a complaint with the dept of health today.

The male workers at this supermarket make me extremely uncomfortable. I have no choice but to come to this supermarket quite often because its the closest to me. They make these whitsling noises and hissing noises at me as if calling a cat. I wish I were making this up....honestly the list goes on.
Prices and groceries are good. Very friendly staff.
Some of the things are nkt what i think as a reasonable price (ex. 3 green plantains for 2 dollars) but otherwise its okay

2019-11-01The variety is good. Convenient in the neighborhood. Produce is fresh. You have to watch the meat but for the most part its good. Those that stock shelves are helpful, however deli, cashiers and managers desk could use some training in customer service. Theyre not friendly, dont smile and dont make you feel very welcomed.

2020-04-30I have been shopping here for the past 20 years, I have seen ownerships & cashiers changed over the years, the service is great, never had any issues, if you bought any items that you would have an issue with, you can get exchange or refund if return in time. Over the years I have known some of the cashiers and they are my friends now, the present owners are friendly, I will continue to support them, cause having a grocery store in my neighborhood at walking distance is a great thing. Thank you so much guys

2021-01-01I’ve lived by here since they first came. It’s a nice place. Easy to navigate. Friendly people. Not too large lines. And even if there were. There’s always someone managing the line to let you know where to go. Their mini deli section is useful from time to time as well.

2020-03-16First and foremost, I hardly go to this supermarket and I live one block from there. Whenever I go there, the cashiers always look upset and are rude. There is probably one nice cashier. On 3/16, I went to pick some groceries and some extra stuff for the home in light of the current situation. I had a lot of items and to my surprise the cashier rang my stuff up and just left them there. Did not even offer to assist with bagging the items. As a result, it held up the line because I had to get my stuff off the belt by packing everything into my bags. Not only did she not offer to assist, she was okay with having the 2 other people wait until I was done. It’s amazing that you give these people your business, but yet they have the audacity to treat you as if you are there begging for something. The customer service sucks here and only in an emergency I would ever go shop at this supermarket.

2019-10-10Let me warn everyone who goes into this supermarket. Check the dates on whatever u buy. I always have problems with the cashiers there is only 1 cashier who knows how to treat customers all the rest have a face like they stink. Also if I go to get a product with a coupon they always dont want to give it to u. I have to go to Key Food where they know how to treat customers. Thats where Ill take my hard earned money to not these thieves at Food Universe.

2019-08-27Amazing. Keep it up. Maintain as well. Some prices are in budget. Should not be too expensive. If its $1.99 then yes. If Its $3.75 for a drink or fruits not good. Be easy for the customers and ones who work. As well. 🙂

2018-02-25Brought $40 worth of chicken from here and it had an disgusting odor so tried to return it next day but they refused to take it back or exchange it and said they had to check the cameras to see if I really brought it from their. Despite 2 of there workers saying they remember me. Other people were walking by and shaking their heads and saying they had to return meat too. Ive been going to this supermarket since I was a kid in Sunday school but these new owners only care about money but they wont be getting my own anymore. Such a disappointment. Your customers should come first not your bottom line.
