Store manager was willing to throw wilted flowers than give me a fair discount. At the end Tina gave me half off the original price but had I known what was about to happen I would have not accepted it. Ive posted a video of what happened when I unwrapped the flowers. Disgraceful. I could have saved that money towards an emergency supply.
There is limited parking. The staff are very courteous and professional. Its usually busy there. I had a honey turkey sandwich from the deli. Their prices are reasonable. The place is well kept. Its accessible by train and 🚌. Its an average size supermarket. The management team are very responsive and helpful. I would definitely shop there again if needed.
Location location location. Produce & fish is super fresh. Good beer selection. Vegan and organic stuff. Good prices on sale items. Nice staff. Reasonable to short checkout wait and self checkout. Dont bring your plastic bags to recycle. Dont know why, they just put them in dumpster with all the other trash.
This is a great neighborhood grocery store. Reliable produce selections, fresh deli, meat and seafood areas. Organic and mainstream options. The best employees, always friendly and helpful. Clean and bright. Well stocked throughout the pandemic! My Family couldnt be more grateful. Oh and decent beer options ;)
Great selection of.items both conventional and organic. Not bougie though. Thats what I love about it. Manager is phenomenal. He runs a tight ship and is incredibly helpful when approached with questions. He and his staff (amazing by the way - cant say enough about their friendliness) were heroes during the height of the pandemic doing their best to ration limited supplies of certain items.
I appreciate that Foodtown of Kensington makes the distinction between conventionally grown and organically grown produce on their labels. That said, and considering the other offerings in the immediate area, I was impressed with the variety of organic produce and didn’t have to lie to my girlfriend upon delivering a healthy and fully organic dinner. Also the guy that was stocking the jalapeños was friendly. Thanks Foodtown of Kensington!
Im going the 5 stars because there is no 4 1/2.It literally has a train stop right there on the corner its on, like a train stop is connected to it (Church Ave. F & G Trains). I get a free transfer back because of this! (The MTA gives a free transfer back onto the train from this station because of the supermarket... I believe ...not all know this feature about supermarkets with regards to trains... or this station ...so its one fare for two ways back and forth). They used to have live lobsters running around in a tank near the deli section during the building boom of Bloombergs Administration! They still have Cheese-Cakes from Juniors at the Deli counter... plus some really nice stuff there... (Turkey dinners for Thanksgiving even... etc).I liked the selection... no problem finding capers, Lox, Cream Cheese and freshly made Bagels, many types of gravy in glass jars for Thanksgiving and a very nice Beer section... all and all ...a points program to redeem for free food and other items (Greenpoints) ...not the draw for everyone... but I always turn them in for free Ragu sauce myself. - Evan (Why not?)Its fresh... the produce is nice ...there is a gourmet items area (for lack of a better word, pricey though), a Bakery (with freshly baked goods). Its all the sections & trimmings you expect in a Brooklyn Supermarket plus a few things you expect in a Manhattan one, enjoy!
Store is clean, your neighborhood supermarket that has most of everything you need. They have a ethnic food isle too, much appreciated but need an actual ethnic touch when it comes to the Asian sauces or ingredients. You can tell its an American attempt on ethnic foods. But other than that, I like the weekly discounts and club membership sign up, self check out (usually available with no wait), and good ice cream and beer selection.
This is Kensingtons grocery store and they certainly show it with various area posts on the bulletin boards in-house. Their offerings match the diversity of the neighborhood and prices are sometimes super low for essentials.Ive never been disappointed by their fruits, vegetables and cheese selection. And the beer? This place has an entire section of craft beers and in the regular aisle, carries Red Stripe and various Brooklyn Brewery beers!
They are doing a really great job during quarantine. The waits are minimal if any at all. Lots of protection for customers and staff. They have a great fruit/veggie section and overall a nice selection of products. Parking is hit or miss depending on if you go at peak times, but overall the staff is really nice and they have things handled given how covid is affecting most biz.
Usually I find the things I need, only thing is, there are no signs in the aisle , on the aisle that would tell you which product are in each aisle. If there is one, its not visible .The self check out is a but frustrating, when u decide to scan and put it on the side inside if n a bag, it wont let you move forward. I had to keep replacing the item with another. But products are well kept and organized 🤗🤗🤗
Organized, clean, socially distanced staff and checkout lines. Fresh produce, beautiful (small) fish counter, nice deli, organic and alternative menu options (non dairy, gluten free, vegan), beer, and a decent ice cream/frozen desserts. All this with parking, instacart option AND delivery option. Club card gets you nice discounts. This will be my GO TO all service grocery. Right outside the train means a quick grab is always convenient en route home from work.
Went in around 8:30pm (they close at 10pm) expecting them to either be ready to kick people out or be snippy towards the end of their shift. The manager was very cordial and respectful of everyones space. This foodtown has a wonderful selection of products, and wide aisles (a plus!!). Easy to locate, and especially easy if you take the F train as the stop is right at their door! Will return soon to see if this is the norm ;)
A very clean store with a lot of variety. However, recently the food has had some issues.1. Fresh food section is not fresh. Mac salad, egg salad, potato salad all taste sour and spoiled.2. Some of the package food is old. Ive bought pudding that has turned chunky. Some limes were very old to the point there was no juice in them.3. Some items are not stored properly. Some icecream I have bought have tasted very icy. As if they were melted and then refrozen. I bought drinks that tasted like plastic. Like they were heated and the plastic taste went to the drink.Theyre usually really good. However, the quality has been decreasing over the past year.
This looks like a well taken care of and managed place. Everything is neatly in its place, and things look aesthetically pleasing. I expected to see a mom/pop kinda manager on the floor, but instead found a few what seemed young people half-heartedly doing whatever it is they were doing. At least I got good directions after I asked to find for a specific item. It has a small parking lot (possibly 9 cars fit). The carts seemed really clean, there were disinfectant wipes offered right at the entrance and a bit over the store. I really appreciated that, and I hope that continues being offered even after this pandemic is gone.
This is a clean & well ran supermarket. It was the 1st store that I found to limit purchase amounts of paper goods & other high demand products during the early months of the pandemic allowing for a steady supply of these goods. Great store! Great management! Great employees!
If I could shop somewhere else, I would. Nice staff. Clean store. Deli and bakery meals are top notch. But be careful shopping here. You have to check the expiration dates and safety seals on everything because they are consistently selling expired stuff and frozen foods where the safety seals have been broken. I have two frozen dinners in my freezer right now that Im returning because the safety seals are punctured and a box of taco shells that were already 2-months expired when I bought them. Didnt realize they were expired until I bit into one and it was hard as a rock which led me to check the box and found they had expired 2 months ago. They also had a bad fridge that had broken one summer but left the ice cream in it ... yet they put no warning on the fridge, so no one knew the ice cream was bad. I didnt know until I was reaching for an ice cream and it was another customer who stopped me and told me not to buy it because the fridge was broken. That said, self-checkout is faster than sitting in line for the cashiers because for some reason, hardly no one ever uses the self-checkout, so most of the time theyre empty. But they break a lot (and they know it) and sometimes rings your stuff up entirely too slow.2 stars because out of my entire life, Ive never ran into so many problems at a grocery store than here.
Its Always a pleasure to go grocery shopping here! I go every week. They have a very nice and wide selection of grocery items here. IN ADDITION, they have self check out/Apple/Android pay and the employees are extremely nice, whenever I need to ask a question I know theyre always there happy and ready to help me out to the best of their a ability! Please shop here, these people deserve your buisness!
Convenient when you need something, but not my first choice. They have expired food everywhere. Last time I was looking at the meat and several packages were expired. This time I was looking for ready ti bake cookie dough and the few packages I took were expired 2 months ago. I’m concerned about their quality control and food safety.
The employees here are helpful but this is a terribly run supermarket. Prices are very high. Fruit is usually not very good, vegetables are fine. Meat is good. They run out of items on the shelves a lot and when this happens they move items around to make it look like they have more. This ignores the price tags and makes finding items very frustrating. Many times when something is marked for sale it rings up at full price, always make sure to check at the register.
The level of product has gotten very bad. We can get milk we use to buy. Cant get the rice, the juice. Its really disappointing. Prior to a few years ago. I used to love shopping at this location. Now I go our of my way to do my food shop. This is due to the lack of product and sometimes they are expired.Very bad business.
Growing selection of local beer, sometimes great sales on things like ice cream. Started offering organic fresh meat, which is often the reason I go there. Ground beef is great, stakes are good but overpriced. Prepared food looks very suspicious, I wouldnt try it.Veggies are usually good, if a bit pricey.
Good:- Helpful staff- Meat is fresh- Decent variety of non-perishablesBad:- Milk is consistently not fresh, several times it was sour upon opening. Many times it was just starting to sour upon opening. I live one block from the store, my refrigerator works fine, and I know others who have had the same problem here, so the issue is with Key Foods. I have also had unfresh cream cheese and butter from here. I do not buy my dairy here any more as it is a waste of money.- Slow self checkout machines.- The meats/salads in the pay-by-weight deli station often look sad / dry / hardened, so theres no chance Id try buying any of it.
Great store - clean - inviting and good products- The deli guys are some of the friendliest and funniest people around and Santana - the manager is one of the nicest, helpful, service oriented people in any store around. I like him and I see that other customers like him and he treats the staff with a lot of respect.
Robust selection of groceries in a relatively small and compact location. Competitive prices. Some decent deals with a Foodtown Club Card. Parking can be tight at times, but at least there is a parking lot available. Immediately adjacent to the Church Avenue stop on the F/G lines. I enjoy shopping here, meets all my basic needs and most of my specialty needs too.
Produce section is never organized. You buy carrots today, good luck finding them tomorrow. My sister went to get us sandwiches (turkey, mozzarella, lettuce and tomato) for the beach, they didnt have lettuce or mozzarella.......how do you not have lettuce in a super market???
The service is fairly good. Im not sure if it is the area they are in but the prices are a bit pricey. The sale are rarely a bargain. (This might be bias again since I usually shop at Costco and the neighborhood it is in, has become fairly gentrified = rich people willing to pay even more for things that are normally cheaper)
Im visiting from Denver. I expected the prices to be higher than at home. And some are- things like processed and prepackaged. And some produce. But for the most part, the prices were the same or even lower. I was amazed that they had so much variety in such a small store. But only some things are priced on the shelf. Check out was a huge hassle fore and them because it was full of price checks. But they took it in stride and joked wed pay double next time.
It is the only supermarket in the area = they dont care much about few things:1. Sometimes the food is out of date or the produce is rotten. I have to look carefully for the due date before buy2. there is no consistency in the product delivery. You may get use to one thing over 3 moths and then it is gone... for ever... sad3. It is pricy.Other then that service and people are great.
Mixed feelings. Not sure what to say!!!! Tina the manager is always super nice and knowledgeable but shes only there in the mornings. I lost my FOODTOWN card so Ive been using my number for the discounts and points but one day they told me I had to get a replacement. So I came in the next day early and Tina said that I was misinformed... not sure what happened. Please always check the expiration on items as some things just sit there.... ugh! (Its a pain to come back).
I almost always go to Foodtown. I remember when they first opened here many years ago. They have a big selection of items. I know the managers and most of the staff.I took off one star because the store has become pretty expensive, more than it used to be. Since they remodeled so many years ago, actually. Dont get me wrong, they have some great weekly sales, but on the whole theyve gotten more expensive. But I still go...☺
Very rude employees (2of them)i was already on line in the aisle #6 and she was telling me to go to the back of the line for no good reason i was waiting online for a while i didnt skip anyone i stood online plus they had no manners or respect and was very loud and rude but a customer saw exactly what happened and let me go ahed so unprofessional this was on 4/20/20 around 6 I believe they were hispanic horrible customer service definitely will speak to the manager if i go back
I go to this store many times but is always been same : their customer service is horrible and whoever works either at register or on floor or at self check out have no clue whats going on in there . Serious they need to have good worker that have in mind that customers go there and if they say something is on sale they have to trust ( why someone would say something that is not ? ) instead of either ignoring the customers or asking 2 or 3 more employees that have also no damn clue or saying : I am busy now ... .Nobody put sign on products : YOU DID ..have whoever works there know that and not looking on a big flyer where the one was looking at, she didnt even know where to look .... RIDICULOUS !
Typical grocery store. Has most food items. Produce can be hit an miss for some things, and not all produce items are à la carte (e.g., jalapeños are sold in packages of 10 or more which is kind of annoying). The beer selection is very good for a grocery store. There are discounts on many items if you have a membership card.
This is the typical expensive Brooklyn grocery--but the people are consistently rude after a few visits. So ShopRite is down the road, also rude, but ten times the selection and half the price. Windsor Market is closer to my house, very friendly people, same prices. Point is--Foodtown is the choice in groceries that makes no sense -- unless you live next door.
I am done waiting for an actual apology from Foodtown of Kensington after the manager, Santana falsely accused my 9 year old of shoplifting and searched her bag. He followed her around the store asking if she had money to buy anything and then told her he had called the police and they would be there soon. When he searched her bag she began crying and asked what she had done wrong. When I contacted the corporate office I received a phone call from one of the owners promising apologies and meetings that have never happened. She was with her grandmother, but I can tell you if I had been there he never would have searched her backpack. He publicly embarrassed my mom and my child and made my child cry for no reason.
Very friendly great Point reward system they have incentives for the customers they gave out free TVs with raffling when you put your ticket in it already has your name address an email printed out so its really convenient you dont have to sit there and fill it out then put it in the Dropbox overall great prices nice friendly neighborhood supermarket
*Edit* wow I hate this place. If you forgot your shopping card (which is needed for any discounts) they wont swipe for you and they wont let you swipe someone elses. AVOID AT ALL COSTS.Over priced low quality produce. They dont have bread, like literally bread. What kind of grocery store doesnt have bread? This place is way over priced has poor selection and they only ever have 1 lane open and the terrible self-checkout lanes that barely even works. Sucks if this is the closest supermarket to you.

2022-01-17This is the neighborhood groceries store. I have been going to this Foodtown for more than 20 years. Store was renovated in last 10 years and improved. Store is always clean and shelves are always full. They used to have live crabs 🦀 in the tank. Foodtown also provides employment to local community. Parking lot is small but you can manage by waiting for few minutes before someone leaves. Foodtown provides cash back and home delivery. If you have club card then you can start accumulating points to get some items on sale.

It’s just a great experience every time we shop here. But then there’s this. “A birthday card for my girls birthday. SIGNED BY ALL THE WORKERS ON”. What a personal and lovely feeling - my girl was so happy coming to me and showing me that her first Bday card has arrived.Love you guys you’re the best

2022-05-29I always stop by there before work to grab some snacks and they always have great deals and you earn points towards items or gift cards. The employees are always very nice and help you pack your groceries. They also have decent hot coffee there as well.

2022-04-05This store is the only neighborhood supermarket that carries egg wrap crepes. They seem to have a decent selection of items. The store is always neat and clean and fairly well stocked. Some prices seem a bit high but overall its a good neighborhood supermarket.

2021-01-15The store is clean, and the employees are friendly and helpful. All customers must wear masks. They provide wipes for the baskets and carts while entering the store, and hand sanitizer upon exiting. There are dividers between each guest at the self check out, and if you go to a cashier theres also a divider between you and the cashier. Theres only one line for self and regular check-out, but the line moves pretty swiftly. The meat and dairy refrigerators were a bit dated (poorly lit and not 100% clean) which may contribute to the poor quality of their meat. Their produce is pretty pricey. I dont recommend buying their meats because most of it does not look fresh. I lucked out with the cubed chicken, which was relatively fresh. I posted a photo of the chicken.

2022-04-08I stopped buying produce here because the prices are so wild and the produce is never fresh enough to justify the cost. Isaacs, which is just a couple blocks away, is much cheaper for the same stuff. Im also disappointed by the sushi section - the selection isnt fresh either and its the same price as Sake sushis right down the street, where stuff is made to order.

2022-07-08Always check the expiration dates if you shop in this store! I just bought a pack of cheese in July that expired in April. This is my third experience accidentally buying expired items but I’ve seen expire items on the shelves as well.

2017-09-07Clean, helpful stuff, organized, reasonable price! I have been their customer since 2003. they went thru change of decor few times but it has always been progressively positive experience.
