I have been a visitor and shopper at Forbidden Planet in their Previous and present location for over 30 years and always have a great time in the store. A wide range of collectibles will appeal to many. On my most recent visit I found just what I was looking for- the Super7 Power Rangers Pudgy Pig. So a successful trip! Even if you don’t walk away with a purchase you will enjoy looking around the store.
I am always looking for my favorite macross figures and planes from all the series. Unfortunately they didnt have the ones I wanted nor did they have significant others I was interested in also. I wonder if Covid is playing a part in distribution or even trading process in the market.
Comic-books, boardgames, and etc. Im in love with this shop, incredible selection of comic and boardgames. I have spent some hours looking everything which I really loved and bought some stuff. The staff are amazing and very kind. The atmosphere the is exceptional, very cool and well decorated. Also, if you like figures, they have a lot of them. If youre planning to go to NYC, I definitely recommend this place.
Am a kid again! This feeling everytime i get in the store. Time flies by and imagination runs beyond the realm of this world.Such an awesome place to shop for toys, books, souvenirs, t shirts, key chains from popular movie, anime or magazine characters. Even game stuffs are here!I was looking for Minecraft stuffs as a gift for me niece and i was a mazed to buy 2 Minecraft books! WoohoooooI am extatic and sure enough my niece will be very happy!
Amazing selection of comics and collectables, with a less extensive but still nice offer of games and nerdy apparel. The aisles are wide and the shelves neatly organized, making browsing a pleasure. And the staff is nice and helpful, without being annoying, pushy or opinionated (also, out of the five or six employees I saw working there, two were women, which is nice in a type of store traditionally dominated by awkward nerd employees that make female shoppers uncomfortable). Price-wise youre still better off shopping online, but Forbidden Planet is the kind of store where you gladly pay a little extra for the pleasant shopping experience.
A perfect place to geek out a little in NYC. I’m a avid Funko Pop collector and I’ve consistently found something inside to add to my collection. If you’re a Funko collector be sure to take a peek at the area behind the register. That’s where they keep new and popular Funko Pops.Aside from toy collectibles they’ve got comic books, graphic novels and nerd merch to your hearts giddy delight. They used to be located in a much larger store space on the corner. So I’m glad they’re still around this area. Forbidden Planet is a fixture and nerd holy ground in NYC.
There is only one comic book ( many amazing stories all within the... THE FORBIDDEN PLANET ) shop with many other cool and collectible things to buy. I called for a book they had one left - I was driving in the road had to park in fire hydrant no parking spot :( and run in to get the book Guess what they had what I wanted ready to goI really appreciate that -The best staff ever. Made cool. Thank You FBP FAMILY
I want to give this shop a high review because I enjoy the merchandise and staff, but unfortunately I have had a less than stellar experience with their shipments/orders/management.I received a mug set as a gift back in December (I am writing this in April), but one of the mugs arrived chipped. After calling the shop, I was informed that the mugs were on back order, but that I would be contacted and that I could do an exchange once they arrive.A month passed, and I receive no news. I call again, and this time the staff seems to be unable to find any record of my first call/request. I explain the situation again, and once again I am promised a replacement.Another month passed, and I receive a call telling me that they have not forgotten about me, and that they will replace my mug soon.However...It has by now been over 4 months, and I have not heard another peep. I still have my chipped mug in a box, waiting for a replacement, but I am starting to think that my poor little unchipped Luna will never arrive...
Youre passionate about manga, comics, Pokemon, TV shows, SciFi, Pops, game cards, figurines...? Stop by Forbidden Planet and youll find whatever youre looking for. This shop is amazing, the staff can teach you on any topic as theyre deep in the culture, and the variety of items is incredible. Even if you dont need anything, the tour worths it.
Great shop for comic books tshirts, games, etc. If youre into comics, you must come here. Staff is always knowledgeable. The space is actually a bit more roomy than the original space they had down the street. Gets crowded on weekends, but thats pretty common around union square.
I enjoy my occasional visits to Forbidden Planet. They always have a great selection of Funko pops and various other collectibles and goodies. My only complaints would be staff watching customers as they look around. Id rather have cameras at me then have an uncomfortable visit. And I dont get the vibe that makes me welcomed to the store. I think we need that atmosphere especially because this is the type of shop for nerds to get away from the crazy world, even for just a few minutes. The cashiers are usually talking up a storm and never paying mind to me. I like this store because its an essential destination for collectors like me but there are some improvements to be made. Oh and the Funko pops and other collectibles in the glass cases are usually way overpriced so I feel no need to try buy something I might want.
Amazeballs!! Found couple of variant cover Batmans Ive been looking for for forever, & card game section blew me away! Lots of Funko Pops Ive never seen before, & God of War action figures I WILL be back to claim! Just a really cool shop 👌 & love the gay Terminator @ the door! 😂
I stopped in here last night because this place was recommended in a book I read. I’m not a huge comic guy but I wanted to see what Forbidden Planet was all about, and I was definitely impressed. For such a large inventory that they have, the place was very well organized. There was a computer library where you could click on a section of the store and find out what is being stored there. This definitely makes it easier to find the things you’re looking for. Also, I thought it was really neat that they had recommendations for readers who like certain books. As I said before, I’m not a big comic guy, but I’m sure that if I was, Forbidden Planet would be my go to.
Pretty neat place. Employees were very nice and helpful. All in one kinda store comic, figurines, manga, and memorabilia. I got some manga volumes one of which I havent been able to get elsewhere and I got a sticker to one of my favorite Mangas. They have lot of stickers. They have lots of different trading cards including buffy. I saw they were open til 12am(not all days) which was great cause I got into the city late for my birthday.
If youre a fan of punk music and collectibles, then just the moment you walk in will make you fall in love with the place and thats before you even find out just how much they have to offer and are always updating their shelves with the latest comic book related reading material and collectibles.
Obviously, great for comics, action figures and sci-fi booksHowever, amazingly enough, what is considered sci-fi today, sometimes becomes actual science of tomorrow.Take for example, cellphones of 1960s Star Trek, extremely powerful computer programsof 2001:A Space Odyssey and drones/hovercrafts of the original Star Wars trilogy. And most especially, The Force,of Star Wars.Well actually, the real living Force, was discovered by the ancient Chinese, well over 5,000 years ago. Written about in those ancient classics of antiquity and just simply called the Tao.(If you learn authentic/traditional chi kung (QiGong), you will actually meet it face to face, no need to believe or have any type of faith whatsoever, its purely scientific, with evidence. Although requires, at least,10 years of hard work, to build your foundation.)Yes, we may be only geeks today, but the geeks will inherit the future.Perhaps back to the Future of ancient China. Do Love💜💙💜Absolutely Like 🤙👍👍👍👍👍🤙
Were still dealing with the pandemic, but the situation is better here in NYC than most other cities. So Forbidden Planet is open and all the staff and visitors were wearing masks like good heroes. I bought some new issues and a back issue that completed a mini-series in my collection...now I can finish reading the story! They gave free bag and board with each comic I purchased. Cool! They have tpbs, Funkos, action figures, t-shirts...this is not the same old FP I grew up with in the 80s...back issues are limited...maybe the equivalent of 10 shortboxes? But interestingly, I found some new releases that were sold out in Midtown Comics...not sure if that means anything. But still, its a great place to shop, get gifts...and unlike Midtown Comics, its on the ground floor. No stairs nor elevators to take. And its next door to the Strand, another bookstore! Yay!
Went to get autographed copies of #laborinqueña and #ricanstruction. This is a well equipped comic book store with so many items to choose from. Its also in a great neighborhood offering a little bit of everything, shopping, dining, relaxing at the park or playing chess.
Great store ! They didnt have the specific Comics that I was looking for, but had one heck of a collection there. There are tons of anime and new comic issues to choose from as well as collector books.Being a horror fan, they have some really good HORROR DVDs that you cant quite find anywhere else. If you get a chance, go and check them out.
A really cool place in New York. I would recommend ALL cult movie fans and collectors to stop by. I found some hard to come by movies here on dvd, and the prices were fair. They have a good selection of comics as well and a really helpful, knowledgeable staff.Lastly I would like to give a shout out to the cashier, he seemed like a genuine film fan and we had a quick nice chat about Cronenberg and Severin Films. No where else in my stay in New York did I experience such an interest in customers as I did here.Love the place and will most definitely come back next time I visit New York.
If you like comics or gaming or anyth sci-fi, youll love it. They have tons of mainstream and unique merchandise and all kinds of cool stuff to satisfy your geek side. Staff was awesome as well :) at least walk past the entrance and check out the Terminator skeleton in the window :) (Florida tourist)
One of my favorite stores that just leaves me so nostalgic of my childhood comic book characters and sci-fi memorabilia. There is a little bit of everything for everyone from toys, figurines, Manga, comics, puzzles, anything! I always walk out with something. They even had this bad ass replica of one of my favorite Marvel villains, Thanos the Mad Titan! Go here if u are looking for comic book and Manga stuff and if u r looking to geek out!
If youre looking for patches, stickers, pins, manga, anime, books, board games or comics, then this is your place! Lovely store with a very broad variety from merchandise to manga collections. When I went they didnt have some of the manga I was looking for but they offered ordering it for me, so if they dont have it; at least theyll try to get it for you (unfortunately I was only visiting NY). Totally recommended.
The store is Supreme Awesomeness every time I go. I hope sooner than later… Forbidden Planet can do a: First Ever In-person Signing (Autograph & Photo Opportunity) Events??? Like bringing Pro Wrestlers, Music Artists and other celebrities to the store. In addition, having them enjoy an awesome experience overall including with the amazing fans we have here in NYC👍🏼👍🏼
The Third Eye Comics of New York. You will find collector cult favorites of memorabilia portraying towards movies, comics, board games, etc. For film you will find interesting limited releases of cult horror movies and others from renowned labels Kino Lorber, Arrow, Vinegar Syndrome, etc.The customers and the staff were very friendly inviting atmospheres and willing to help out, overall a great experience! This place will drain your wallet in the best way. Next time I head downstate I plan to visit again and bringing my film buddies!
This has been my favorite place since my brother introduced me more than 20 years ago. I love it! They have what I want majority of the time and if not they are more than happy to order it for you! Drew is a great help and they have a great selection of Pop figurines
Great place for comic books, manga, collectibles, and those ubiquitous Funko Pop figurines. It is a wonderful place to browse for old favorite comics and discover new stories (I just picked up a few issues of the new version of Excalibur not long ago). And if you have a fondness for obscure grindhouse horror, they have an amazing collection of films for sale. Its nerd paradise!
Ive been going to forbidden planet for 40 years. And I still love it and take my kid now. Unfortunately the selection has waned a bit. It used to be like a museum, now its filled with pop-art bobbleheads and low quality toys. Wheres the $450 Gundam? And the $650 Terminator models? No Godzilla? No tacky 1964 classics? They should open downstairs up and make it ratty like it used to be in the old place on the corner. I still love FB though...
Ive been visiting Forbidden Planet for over 20 years now and always keep coming back for anything. Funko Pop, Super7, Necca, Kid-robot, and other toy collectables brands. Marvel and DC, Star Wars and Star Trek, Godzilla and King Kong, and/or any other movie, TV, comic book, video game, or pop icon characters available. Novel and comic books, trading cards and games, action figures and limited figurines, and also graphic t-shirts, patches, pins, keychains, and other little knick-knacks are available for sale. Cant miss this place, right on Broadway between 12th and 13th streets with R2-D2 in the stores display window.
Honestly this place is amazing!! It had Marvel comics,Wandavision, Loki, and many more they have Jojo manga and Death note manga! I was specifically looking for Saiki K manga but I’m not sure if they had it. They have so many good tshirts as well. Im definitely coming here for my birthday and spend A whole bunch of money!!
A bit disappointing. I havent been here in about 20 years. Its moved to a much smaller location than the last time I was here. I had budgeted $100 just to buy some comic type books and magazines. The selection was good, but it was a bit cramped even with about 20 people in the store and I wound up leaving without buying anything.
I have been going to this comic book store since I was a little kid, and they were right on the corner. The anime section used to be upstairs. This store was a big part of my childhood. Always nice staff, cool statues, action figures, graphic novels and posters. Meet and greets with some cool artists and always on top of whats new in the comic industry. Since I have moved away 8 years ago, I always make sure I come back when I visit each time. You will not want to miss this if you are a collector, love comics, and love statues.
I used to shop here in the late 80s and early 90s when I collected comic books. I like that theyre still around and they have tons of collectables. My only issue is that not everything has prices on them and I have to constantly find someone to ask how much a particular item costs. Other than that, I love the place.
Ok stock. Had books I was not able to find elsewhere. However, I finally opened a hardcover trade that was shrink wrapped. As I am reading it, I am finding creases and dents in the pages as well as fingerprints/smudges. I rarely leave reviews. However, this book clearly has been opened/read by someone else. It is obviously used but was sold to me as new, at full price. Buyer beware.
Wow. The selection is very large. They have a great amount of t-shirt and a huge amount of Funko! Pop Figures. The staff is very nice and helpful. They also have many different games just like Dungeons and Dragons. The prices are good. Its definitely a great place for geeks and nerds and other lovers of such things.
They need to update there return/exchange policy. My receipt says Im able to return/exchange within 10 business days but when I accidentally bought a variant cover comic, same comic with different covers, they refuse to honor my receipt. Brand new. Very disappointed. Besides that, great place and great location.
I live in MD and I ordered a large quantity of comics on Thursday afternoon, within minutes I got an email that they processed my order and it was in the mail, I thought that meant that a label had been created but it would still take a bit. The package was on my doorstep by the following afternoon, and they packaged it with lots of care and even gave us some free comic book day comics! 100% I will do further business with them when Im in the market for online purchases, if Im ever in NY I will have to go out of my way to drop in!
Really nice place, tidy and aesthetically pleasing. It is a little small for the amount of things they have, but granted its in Manhattan, that makes sense. In addition, the staff are very down to earth people, theyll treat you as a human, which is quite hard to find nowadays in stores. They have a great selection of products, nearly everything you can think of when in a comic book store.
This place is amazing. One of my favorite places to go explore my comic geek side. From anime to comic books this place has it all. The models and ornate and make me remember what it was like to be a child looking through the glass. I highly recommend. Customer Service A+.
One of the best comic book stores in the whole city. The staff are really passionate about the culture. If you need any help, they can always set you up with recommendations, whether its comic books or tabletop games. The vibe is just amazing. Ive bumped into famous people here occasionally too!
Ive been going to this comic book store for years great place to go and escape. You will be enthralled by all this place has to offer. I was kinda bummed about them not having multiple floors anymore. Its usually where they held their competitive card game tournaments. The place still has magic left for anyone that loves a good comic book and is an avid collector of figurines. There are many other things to enjoy in the store as well but me telling you about it wont do it justice. Go ahead and pay a visit to this awesome place you wont regret it. The staff is also amazing; very knowledgeable on comics and all things forbidden planet.
Very nice comic book store! A high variety of different series and comics and anything that is fiction. Even if you are looking for figures or toys they got them and quite the variety of different characters in stock! Nice employees willing to help you find or recommend a new read for yourself!
One of my favorite places to go to weather i am looking for comics, graphic tees or to collect some more awesome action figures. Forbidden Planet is definitely the best place in NYC to visit if you havent gone yet. The workers are awesome, they assist your every need and the vibes are very chill
Whoever the guy was in the front register on Tuesday around 11 had an attitude. Too busy having a conversation with one the employees next to him. Made me not even want to come back. All I asked was to verify I was getting the carboard/plastic slip for the comic and he was like oh I just asked if you wanted that all he had to say was yeah. Also why ask if I was told by another employee I was going to get it anyway??? I didnt even want to ask for another pop that was behind him cause it seemed like I was disrupting his conversation. Must be a miserable person... better off going to Royal Collectibles way nicer.
Forbidden Planet is a strange name for a must-visit store if youre into comics. The store does not have a large footprint, but it is like the Walmart of comic book stores. There is something for everyone in there. I dont collect anymore, but I think new releases come out on Wednesdays(?) and they generally have a good supply. A great place to spend a Saturday afternoon browsing the shelves.
Amazing selection of comics, manga, and all around pop culture items. Terribly limited supply in merch though and only half the staff seemed interested in actually assisting you. Was told they were out of multiple pins while the ones that were desired just sat in a display case. Possibly just caught everything on a bad day.
So disrespectful, went there to pick up some back issues of G.I.Joe and some Pokémon cards for my son. The cashier is not a people person, when I asked her about back issues and Pokémon cards. She said we don’t carry that kiddie comic and we got a $180 Pokémon card set. I was like anything more cheaper she said “ look if you can’t afford it then leave” . I did and went to midtown comics. You guys will never see me at your store again.
This store is awesome even though it smells terrible (like everything in New York) and is musty and dark. The staff is super helpful and knowledgeable (except the man at the counter...he didn’t know anything about anything...). They have so many cool things. Plushes, pins, patches, figures, and of course comics. Basically everything you can think of comic or anime related can be found here. Definitely worth checking out.
One of the best comic book stores left on NYC. As there seems to be a decline in stores, this one still holds the mantle as a mecca of good reading. The have an excellent assortment of collectables and a vast array of books and movies. The staff are helpful and knowledgeable and willing to help you find what you need.As a long time shopper here, I recommend this store for all your comic and collectable needs.
Ive been going to Forbidden Planet for comics, graphic novels, and manga for about 30 years. My grandmother and mother used to take me there when I was a kid and as an adult I kept going back. Ive seen this place in more than a few locations. They keep moving, but Im glad theyre still around and still in basically the same area. Its nice that theyre next to Strand because it lets me hit both locations in the same shopping trip. To be honest, I get a lot of my comics digitally now, but I still shop there for memorabilia and a few comics or collected editions that are just too good to only have as a digital version.
We were happy to find a comic store in Ny when we visited. This was recommended to us by a family member when we were at dinner. The place was decent. A very good selection of comics and other merchandise. Prices were average for this type of store.Giving 3 stars because the staff was just.....just.....there. We needed help with a case and the guy acted like he had much better things to do then sell us the $18 item we wanted to buy.The cashier barely spoke. We did like the fabric bag we were given because it was kind of a souvenir itself.Would we go back on our next trip to NY? Nah. Nothing that special here and the rude staff just topped that off.
Its an amazing store in Manhattan: from comics and graphic novels to Blu-ray/DVDs & awesome toys, this place has everything even the most serious comics collectors could ever hope to find. Marvel, DC, independent titles, movie/TV characters...you name it, chances are they have it! 😎✌️
Im not one for writing reviews but I really felt the need here. Seriously awesome customer service. I placed an order for a volume from a series that I couldnt find anywhere. I finally found it at FP and ordered it right away super excited. About an hour after placing my order I got a call from Jeff at FP. He was calling to say he pulled my order and noticed that the book wasnt in perfect condition. He explained the damage, which sounded very minor, and explained my options. He said he would be happy to send me the copy and discount me 10% for the damage or he said he had a line on another copy that he could get me if I was willing to wait. He even went so far as to email me photos of the book so I can see for myself. When I looked at the photos, I laughed a bit. The damage was so incredibly minor that I barely noticed it. The bottom corner of the cover was slightly bent, thats all! But then I realized that Jeff takes pride in giving people perfect products that they can enjoy for a long time. I gladly accepted the damaged copy of the book, got refunded a couple bucks which really wasnt necessary, and 2 days later it was at my door. Overall extremely satisfied with this purchase from FP and especially the service Jeff provided me. The experience may not sound very crazy but I was truly amazed with the level of care and customer service that Jeff showed. Well done guys! Will be grabbing the next volume from FP as well!

2021-10-18I just ordered my first book from Forbidden Planet NYC three days ago. It got down the whole east coast by then. The book was literally in the best condition I’ve ever gotten a comic book in. It looks brand-spankin’-new and I got it for a good seventy-something bucks less than I could find the exact same edition from anywhere else. It got here a day early. No compromising, no damage, no exorbitant fee, no joke, man. I called the store up to thank them personally and the guy I talked to was super genuine and friendly. It was seriously the absolute best comic-buying experience you can get. They’re my new fix, I couldn’t recommend them enough. Thank you guys again, man, you’re a dream.

2022-06-08For my money, best comic book store in NYC! Good selection. New releases are organized. Great for action figure fans as it always seems they have something interesting. Also a great cult-movie blu-ray selection.

2022-05-25Great place. Went there a couple times last week. love horror and cult films and I found an expansive, awesome collection of new and used Blu-ray and DVDs there in very good condition.Only taking one star off because the staff wasnt very enthusiastic when asked to go get one of the custom t-shirts.
