I’ve been looking for a place to work on my 2001 Range Rover. I’ve taken it to 3 different shops and Foreign Car Specialists have by far been the more honest and upfront with the work they preformed. With a great friendly staff and honest work I will definitely be back!!
The team at Foreign Car has taken care of my Family’s cars for as long as I can remember.Personally I have been a customer on my own since moving home from the military in 2014. The amount of knowledge and skill showcased by the guys in the shop is unmatched, and the customer service is always excellent, friendly, and ready to explain in detail exactly what my vehicle needs. From my very first Honda services in 2002 to my current vehicle today, this team is fantastic and I always know I can count on them!
Took my car in for an oil change and some general maintenance. (Drive belt change) The mechanic found my timing chain and oil pump chain needed to be replaced by listening to it when revving the engine. There’s a class action lawsuit on my BMW for this issue so if not for Foreign Auto and they’re fantastic staff, I wouldn’t have noticed it and my engine would have been dead in the near future. Timing chains supposedly last forever.Would 10000% recommend coming to Foreign Auto for any general repairs or maintenance. Thanks again!
Efficient, honest and dependable. I really like the transparency of the process from estimate to job completion. There are no surprises and that is important. You will never feel that you are being baited and switched: they say exactly what they will do and then do exactly what they said. Great people and honest dependable service. What more could you ask for?
Everyone is so very caring and friendly- These folks are completely honest, are thorough and provide excellent service! I wouldn’t go anywhere else!!!Continue to Feel the same way as last text above. Stopping by for service Is like seeing family. You’re even invited to stop by and have someCoffee when you’re in the area. How aboutThat for an old fashion family run service. That said, everything else is top notch and the latest in providing the best care For your’ Car!!! ❤️ Lin
Absolutely amazing. Excellent customer service. I have never experienced that level of customer service from an auto mechanic shop in New York. If I could give ten stars I would. I brought in my ML350 in just for general maintenance, and I have received an extremely detailed report of all that was done and also all that’s needed whether immediate or not. Just amazing, the fact that they have loaner vehicles is such a great convenience. Happy I went to Foreign Car Specialists.
Foreign Car Specialists had been taking care of my vehicles for the past 4 years. Kevin, Lisa, and the crew are very friendly and do excellent work. They do a full system check at every visit and dont try to upsell unnecessary services. They always inform me of small problems to be taken care of before they become bigger issues. I love this place.
Rick and his team are great. They gave me updates as work was completed on my Fiat and took pictures of issues they found. They were true to all estimates and wrote out very detailed notes for the work I needed. They answered all my millions of questions and gave honest opinions. I would definitely recommend bringing your car here they did a great job and the price is great too!
From the moment I stepped foot into their shop I knew this was the right place... their expertise, professionalism and overall communication made for a great experience. I brought my 81 rabbit pickup to have a custom exhaust fabricated and through their thorough inspection they were able to diagnose some critical issues that were ultimately resolved. I will be a long term client at Foreign Car Specialists and I recommend that you come check out their services for all your automotive needs.
Its been over a year that I use Foreign Car Specialists services, and I always have the confidence that my car will be taken care of in the most professional way. The feedback after every service is very comprehensive and puts you in control of what your want to have serviced next. I highly recommend them.
A true family owned business that know how to treat customers. They handled my delicate situation with me and my family with dignity and respect and bent over backwards to help us get our car done. I really appreciate the attention to detail and constant communication with us while they had the car in their shop.I would definitely recommend FCS to everyone as well as call them for all our needs.Thank you again!
After looking for 5 months for a mechanic to helicoil my 2002 Dodge Ram, Kevin said they were up for the challenge. As they did fix it, they realized there was more damage to the engine then just a stuck spark plug. I told them I’d just take it home instead of putting a new motor in the thing. They were super nice and welcoming, Lisa is a true sweetheart and Kevin was super awesome at explaining what had happened. They were quick with updates and worked quick. I’m super glad I found these people and I know if I need a vehicle checked out I’d definitely bring it to these people. Also, their complimentary inspection report is really professional and helped me find things I didn’t even know where leaking/broken. If anybody needs a professional mechanic that knows what they’re doing I’d definitely recommend this place 100%!
Been going to Foreign Car for years (Acura, Volvo, BMW). Anything not covered by the dealership warranty is done by them. The place is well run and with the guys are excellent mechanics with high integrity. Love the place. Found them by through a personal referral and have sent many friends to them. Rick the manager is extremely detailed and patient in his explanations and the cars are always done when committed. Highly recommend.
I called this business to get a quote for a footwell module for a 3 series BMW, and they told me they had to look at it in order to get a price. When I mentioned that it just had to be replaced because it was warped, the reply was its gonna be expensive then when I mentioned that I already know the issue and have the footwell module to replace the warped one with, they told me that they do not take parts from customers to install. I actually had AAMCO do the job with no problem and and Im not sure what this place meant by expensive (more than likely unsure of what bogus price they would charge me for the service) but I had the job done for $300 bucks. I find this place to be unprofessional in how they do business and insult perspective customers. Expensive isnt of your definition. After all, youre not the one paying for it. You should learn etiquette when dealing with money. You lose business assuming you know whats best for others. I own a BMW. I have expensive taste, clearly.
Simply the best, saved about $175 going with them over the dealership. Honest, friendly, knowledgeable, convenient and went above and beyond to accommodate me. My car has never run and felt better to drive. Im greatful for finding this shop, it will make my life easier when it comes to my auto needs. Thank You!
Brought my BMW in to FCS for what I thought was an alternator problem. Was charged $251 to be told both turbo chargers needed to be replaced for $8,000. Went to a different mechanic who deduced it was a bad alternator and replaced it and battery (they also checked the turbo chargers and told me they were fine). All issues were resolved but unfortunately Im out $251 for bad advice.
Okay. I have mix feelings about this foreign specialist auto shop. I thought to share my experience. I recently had work done on my Mercedes and I was surprised when I heard my repair cost quote over the phone for 2 semi easy repair jobs. Initially, I wanted to tell them to forget it and go for a second opinion/ quote on the repairs at another shop . Although after reading information on their website, I noticed that they give a very good warranty on their parts and labor for 3 years or 33,000 miles , or something like that, and that alone I thought was worth the high repair cost. I decided to go with this shop not only because I heard a lot of good things about them from reviews online and friends, but mostly because of their service warranty. I have been to a lot of repair shops in the past for all different kinds of car repairs and I never had a shop offer me a warranty on their service. I am not going to lie, this auto shop is very expensive. It’s almost the same or if not a tad less in cost then if you went to a dealership. They only use oem parts, so parts cost are very very expensive. Which if you were to use another type repair shop, they would go with a much cheaper non-oem parts . Which honestly I don’t mind using non oem parts on my cars. Would I want to pay $1,000 for oem part or $189 for a non oem part that works the same as the $1,000 part. They should give the option to the customer if they would like to use oem or non oem parts. I mean it’s my car, I should make the decision what goes inside of it.I would imagine that they wouldn’t warranty non oem parts, but if I would be able to save $1000 in parts, I wouldn’t mind not having a warranty and take the chance.. Overall the service was top notch. I thought that they did a fantastic job on my car. I have no complaints on their service at all. Very friendly atmosphere, very clean office and waiting area. Would I go back to them in the future? Yea sure I would, but for small repairs/ oil changes.
My bmw x1 had some long pending dealer recommended repairs and FCS reviewed my car and gave a very detailed explanation with photos and helped in making some decisions and investing on repairs which really is needed for the car. Really appreciate their honesty and sincerity in the service. Excellent service
Excellent service for my vehicle! Im new to the area and was looking for a garage where I could have my 2015 WRX serviced without having to take it to a dealership. The reviews were great overall and Im thankful to have followed through with an appointment. Kevin and Lisa have a top notch operation and technicians!
Excellent service and very quick turnaround. I literally walked in and had an hour and a half to inspect my car. They fit me in and inspected it with flying colors. They were easygoing and a pleasure to deal with. I would definitely go out of my way to do a repair here again.
Just wow. I was so scared when my 87 volvo started having a serious issue. I didnt know whether or not to trust a shop ive never been to. But they took the time to help me out and i was so happy when it was done! I recommend this shop over any other in this area, because they catered to my old car. They covered all options for me. They have some seriously skilled mechanics. Old or new. Take your car to them!!
My brakes suddenly lost effectiveness. Kevin advised me to get it towed to him because brakes can go from bad to non-existant in an unanticipated second. I realized that if someone were to pull out in front of me it could be my last second. I got it towed. They took care of me as soon as possible and even offered a temporary car if I needed one. They kept me informed of their work flow status via email. Diagnostics were thoroughly documented, complete with photographs and clear explanations and cost estimates. I confess Im one of those people that dont even know how to top up my cars oil or change a tire and rely completely on trust. Foreign Car Specialists have earned and kept that trust through nearly two decades of professional excellence, good value, and terrific customer service. But now, through their unique documentation process, I am actually getting educated and enjoying this unexpected benefit!Unfortunately too much is going on with my car that needs attention. Im grateful Foreign Car Specialists worked with me to spread out expenses, focusing on priorities such as my broken brake lines. They kept to their reliable estimates, kept me informed and got my car safe and road-worthy again. They even gave me the means to get a rebate on the towing cost.In short, I was well taken care of, as always. And while I wait I always take great pleasure in their happy, family vibe, and love the feeling of welcome and appreciation they extend to everyone who walks through their doors.Thank you Foreign Car Specialists. You are an awesome team. So nice to meet your latest addition, Gina!
This local auto-repair shop provides some of the best customer service in the industry. All personnel were very courteous and very accommodating. Problems were diagnosed well and the vehicle repair plan was accurate , cost effective, and tailored to my individual needs and expectations.Personnel offer insight above and beyond for the care of my vehicle and they stay engaged to each vehicles needs. You can feel very confident in Foreign Car Specialists-Ecklers Automotive Inc. A truly trustworthy repair shop.
So glad I found this garage. They are honest, trustworthy and friendly. Everyone is nice and they go out of their way to help you. I just bought a used Volvo and I have made several calls over the past two weeks. Rick has very patiently taken all my calls and never made me feel like I was wasting his time. You can’t go wrong by taking your car here.
Hello Lisa -I would like to say I am very grateful to have found Foreign Car Specialists. My truck is responding better than ever - you all really did a super job.Professional and thorough and the job finished as promised on time - with lots of smiles made it very pleasant. I look forward to the next time I need your service.Thank you.Judy
They are super nice here, but I did not have a good experience. Long story short- they told me I HAD to repair my rear brakes, so I authorized it. Unfortunately, after this repair I started having problems with the brakes, so I brought my car back & they supposedly fixed the problem (though I had to spend another $350 for additional parts and labor). Even after this second repair I continue to have problems with the items that they repaired.I never had problems with my breaks until they worked on them. I only had them done because they said it was a safety issue. After spending almost $3,000 dollars with them, and still having problems with the parts they ‘fixed’, I’m going somewhere else.
Extremely professional shop; First time calling when vehicle not running properly...Rick was so helpful, courteous and accommodating. Clearly communicated diagnosis via phone followed by emailed report of through inspection / overhaul of my ole Range Rover. Will continue with this establishment for any future service needs. Thank you so much!
Recently I purchased a used VW Beetle convertible from a dealer in CT. It was a bad decision I soon found out that it wasnt serviced and roadworthy as they represented. So I decided to take it to an expert to get an idea of what I have to do. I went to Foreign Car Specialist and Im glad I did. They are honest, straight up and will not sell you stuff you dont need. While I have a laundry list of issues to fix, they took the time to thoroughly examine the car and told me exactly what it needs, and what can wait for later. Nobody, including me enjoys paying for car repairs. But at Foreign Car Specialists you get an honest assessment of the vehicle and quality repair work. Rick, Kevin and the guys will take good care of you and your foreign auto. I encourage you to visit them with all your foreign auto needs
Im a student at Marist College, not from the area originally, so I was in search of a place that I could trust to replace a tire. Foreign Car Specialists is truly a company that runs on honesty and integrity, and they replaced my tire quickly and efficiently for a very reasonable price. They even placed mats on my car floor in the front two seats to keep it clean. I dealt with Rick, who is extremely kind and friendly. Definitely recommend this place- whether you are from the area or not!
First Visit: I wanted a spin balance for my tires & they were able to accommodate me the same day. As a family-owned biz, they were very welcoming & made me feel right at home. Initially, the car was taken for a test drive & given a complete checkup. The tech showed me some irregular wear on one tire & alerted me that I would need 2 new tires in the future. It was a pleasure to get personalized service & I would not hesitate to return. P.S. A free wash & vacuum are included.
So I have a 2011 Bmw 535i that I had taken to them to fix . My car had a crank no start and just didnt want to run . They came up with so w bogus diagnostic that had nothing to do with my car issues. They had my car like a month more less and still no car was fixed . They were telling me how they were so knowledgeable in foreign cars but told my insurance that they still didnt know what was wrong with the car. Long story short they arent familiar with updated car issues that are computerized. Very pricey for every thing .I wouldnt recommended at all.
I have been going to foreign car for years, about 17 yrs, and I have always been confident in their work. When I first moved to this area I didnt know anyone. A co-worker introduced me to them. I felt comfortable and that I was given choices for each visit. They are reasonable, honest and do very good work. As I said, always gave you all the options for you to choose from. Definite must!!
I have always received great friendly professional customer service at Foreign Car Specialists. They explain what needs to be done in easy to understand language. They never pressure you to do anything that isnt needed and they help keep your vehicle in tip top share. I recommend them to everyone I know.
My Audi had a check engine light on and was not driving normally. I had brought it to the dealership and they were unable to figure out the issue. My husband then brought it to this mechanic shop and they got to the root of the issue and fixed my car within a few days. Along the way, Rick was a pleasure to work with. He let us know the price for everything before any work was done and did not pressure us to do any work that was not immediately necessary. So glad to have found this shop!
We were treated like family at Foreign Car Specialists. Due to groundhogs at our property, our emergency break wiring had been chewed up. We normally service our car at our BMW dealer who wanted a ridiculous amount of money to change out the parts affected. The team at Foreign Car Specialists were able to save us money by repairing the wiring instead of swapping out expensive BMW parts which is what most other service stations do nowadays, rarely bother with actually repairing things. Not only did the team fix our emergency break, they also prevented future issues by rodent proofing the wiring harness that BMW for some reason did not protect. We had originally thought about selling our car as everyone knows how expensive it is to repair aging BMWs, but now with Foreign Car Specialist’s team on our side looking out for our interests, we feel confident we will always be treated fairly and with integrity and honesty. This type of business is such a rare find in this day and age, we are extremely fortunate to have found them.
I have been a customer of Foreign Car for many years. Kevin and his team have always striven to be honest and fair. They go out of their way to let me know what has to be done on my car, how much it will cost, and any unexpected problems that come up during the repair. Honesty and integrity are the measurements that they live by. I count myself fortunate to have them on my team.
Not only did Foreign Car Specialistd fix my car, they made my 17 year old vehicle look brand new. They are honest and expert in all that they do. I am happy to recommend them to anyone who needs help with their auto. Their routine checks are a great way to keep track of any potential problems that might arise. Senior citizens can feel secure in patronizing FCS and the amazing team. 12-30-2017 A few days ago I was concerned about air pressure in my tires. Went to Foreign Car Specialist and without hesitation they took my car inside and checked the pressure. All four tires were low. Thank goodness there is a place like Foreign Car Specialists to alleviate my anxieties over my 17 year old Mitsubishi.Walking into service area is always pleasant. Appointment or not, you are always greeted politely and attentively. Your concerns become their concerns. No problem is too big or small. They have always been there for me. Advice about the car has always been spot on. But they aren’t just mechanics, they make you part of their family. Foreign Car Specialists are experts and relations you want in your family.
We have taken our vehicle there the first time a few weeks ago and they were extremely helpful. We have a 2004 Mazda 6 and it needed a partial tune up and we were very happy with the outcome since the car had its ORIGINAL spark plugs in it. Crazy right? HahaBut anyway we felt that they were so honest with us that we decided to bring our car back for another repair a few days ago for a old hose problem, they brought to our attention that there was a recall on the cars computer (From 2005) that we had no idea about. Which lead us to do research online and we found out there is ALSO a recall on our airbags! The recall was issued over the past year and the notice was sent to an old address of ours. So, If it wasnt for Foreign Car Specialists detailed work, we could have been in terrible danger! We still want to bring the car back to Foreign Car Specialists after we get the 2 recalls straightened out, with Mazda, for the hose issue because we cannot stand the big car dealership mechanics. So its safe to say that we have found our new mechanic. :)Oh and another funny and helpful thing happened. During our first visit we left our toothpaste, that we just bought from the store, there on accident and when we went back for the more recent repair they had it waiting for us. Haha so awesome.
This past week I had both of my cars; 2006 Accord and 2013 Civic, in for servicing. Some of the services were required (oil change and one NYS inspection) and some overdue but recommended services. The team at FCS, in particular Rick, always helps guide me through the “recommended” services by identifying those things that should be addressed first, primarily for safety reasons. Being retired, and living on a fixed income, I can’t afford to get everything done at once so I really appreciate the guidance. Ive been a customer of Kevin’s since Foreign Car Specialists first opened. I’d never go anywhere else.
$1800 to do a oil pan gasket on a 07 335i is highway robbery!!! Yes book time says 7.5 hrs but me as a mechanic myself know it’s way more than half that. I could understand $800-$1000 maybe but $1800 is unreal!! And on top of that I have BMW original oil pan gasket and BMW original one time use bolts that They “don’t allow to use” whitch makes you think what parts are they really using?? Not a good look and not a very happy camper. I’m glad I didn’t go they with it as I can get it done for more than half then price no problem. Thanks for nothing guys!!! 0 stars would be much better but lowest is a 1 star smh. Should be ashamed!!!
Foreign Car Specialists are honest, thorough and extremely good at what they do. After visiting them earlier this month to get come basic maintenance work done (as well as to fix an oil leak), I can say that I will be coming back regularly from now on. Before coming to Foreign Car Specialists, I was was told at another place that I would need to have a major work done on the car to get the leak fixed (including removing the transmission to get to the oil leak) and the total cost of the job would run over $1,000. Foreign Car Specialists ran several tests on the car to diagnose the problem, found out that the expensive repair called for by the first place I went to were unnecessary, and fixed the oil leak for a fraction of the cost cited by the other place. They are indeed honest and very, very good at what they do.
Me and my mother both come to Foriegn car and we appreciate their quality service and kindness. They make things easy to understand and answer any questions that may come up. You can tell they take their time dealing with each customer to make them feel comfortable and informed.
We have a 2003 Jaguar which has had issues. The folks at FCS have always been patient and efficient when dealing with the car.Its a family heirloom. From the time we drop it off till pickup we are kept informed of progress. Issue are explained and before any work is done approval must be granted.Always a pleasant experience
The service is excellent, Ricks super, and feel they are honest and fair. I had terrible (and outrageously expensive) service at HV Volvo. My lucky day when someone told me about Foreign Car Specialists. I will never buy another car without consulting Foreign Car Specialists first -- they even will do a bumper-to-bumper inspection if you decide to purchase a used car. I trust their opinion.
Always a pleasure to take my 2010 Corolla to Foreign Car Specialists! So-o-o much less expensive than at the dealership. Im confident that nothing is being done that doesnt need to be done -- and all repairs are explained to me in detail in terms I can understand. Rick and Lisa in the office and Kevin and his assistants in the work bays are ALL pleasant, efficient, and highly skilled. Caring for your car doesnt get better than this.
My introduction to foreign car specialists came thru a very knowledgeable friend (from Dublin Auto sales), when i learned i needed new brakes for my car. He called Rick at Foreign Car Specialists to set up an appointment for me and i was told to go directly in. From the moment i got to the shop i was received like and old time customer. The whole process was step by step explained to me and my questions were answered. At the end i was even shown the damaged parts that did comply with what Acura told me. The happy part is ii got the same quality repair at a fraction of the cost! I’m sold!
These guys are the best very thorough dealership experience without the BS. I would highly recommend these guys very knowledgeable mechanics and quality service. I gave them 5 Star..As usual had another visit with these guys and again professionalisms at its best thanks again to Rick and his team for always putting the customer first.
Originally had my car towed to FCS for a new alternator. I just wanted a quote and nothing more. Text/email updates and documentation were great but in the end they quoted me $1055 for an alternator. I denied the repair and when I went to go get my car, they charged me $156 as a diagnostic fee.I took my business to Schroders where they did the repair for nearly half the price quoted by FCS.Moral of the story: get quotes from other shops first
Everyone there was extremely polite, knowledgeable, and accommodating, willing to work with us to take care of our vehicle and be honest about cost and feasibility to better serve the customer! I would recommend them to anyone needing repairs or even troubleshooting info, all in all a fantastic place and amazing people who know exactly what theyre doing!
Excellent quality and service. I had to go in two weeks ago to get my Volvo serviced and they got me right in and right out without any problems. Most places cost an arm and a leg every time I get my car fixed, but this place was great. I will definitely go back next time I need service. Thanks!
I dropped my car off this morning and then decided to walk around the neighborhood to kill time for a while. While I walked around I saw my car driving past me. The mechanic had on his mask. I appreciated the fact that even out of sight my car was being taken care of and was being followed by COVID procedures. Brandon & Rick are the best. Wouldn’t trust anyone else with my girl.
I was driving through Poughkeepsie in my 78 VW Bus when I passed this shop. I stopped in because they were happily waving at me and my air cooled VW as I randomly drove past their shop. I needed an oil change and was having some minor problems with my motor. They quickly found that I had a bad ignition coil as they were able to test it with a spare coil they had in their shop. Their prices were great, their service was amazing and they are great people to talk with. They really wanted to help me get back on the road and it was one of the best experiences Ive had at a repair shop. I highly recommend Foreign Car Specialists for any type of repair needs!!
First time in today and I couldnt be happier. Very friendly and definite feeling of confidence with them. Brought in my Acura and they were able to take care of the issues, and make me aware of several more things that could use attention. Felt zero pressure to do anything about them until I needed to. Will definitely be back. Bonus...getting the car back washed, waxed and vacuumed.
My daughter, who is attending school in the Poughkeepsie area, had her car break down and needed towing and repair. I found Foreign Car Specialists and gave them a call. From the moment Gia (?) answered the phone to the moment my daughter picked up the car, I felt she and the car were in good hands. I was notified of progress and diagnoses, and I was pleased that I could feel reassured that my daughter was dealing with a group of people who cared about her well being. While I hope we dont have to return, we would gladly return here.
Trustworthy? Yes!Courteous? Yes!Competent? Yes!Complaints? No, but I want the Porsche in their cover photo!I was very satisfied with the service and the cost, and had a pleasure meeting the FCS team, who took care of my car on short notice. I might just fake a mechanical failure for an excuse to visit them again.
LOVE, LOVE, LOVE the service at FCS. Rick is always super accommodating and sensitive to the fact that we only have one vehicle. With short notice or no notice at all he does everything possible to get me in and out as quickly as possible.Whatever vehicle I purchase I will continue to bring it to FCS and I will gladly refer anyone I know who is looking for quality, reasonable and professional service to them.
Rick, Kevin and Lisa have created a friendly but professional business! Rick will determine if it a repair or replace situation and Kevin gets the work done. I trust them implicitly! They have taken care of the cars my kids have driven for years; keeping my children safe. Thats a big deal for me. Thank you, Rick and Kevin!!
Foreign Car Specialist have always been very helpful, informative and accommodating to the needs of my Volkswagen Beetle. Whenever we need to bring it in for a simple oil change or if it needs service, theyve straight forward, honest and educational about the needs of my Beetle. Rick is always welcoming and they get my car out in a timely manner. They keep my Beetle running, and she has over 165,000 miles!
Kevin Eckler has done expert work on both my classic 66 Beetle and 935-speed Eurovan. To start with, these folks are some of the finest people youre ever gonna meet, from Rick and Lisa out front to pro mechanic Kevin Eckler himself. Both vehicles were purchased used and each had multiple issues, all of which were handled with mechanical expertice, fair pricing and in several instances using creative ingenuity. My Beetle was purchased as is with missing engine tin (critical for cooling), improperly routed engine wiring harness and fuel line, and a stripped spark plug on #2 cylinder. While I feared the worst (engine removal, engine rebuild of cylinder head) Kevin was able to lower engine slightly, install the necessary cooling tin, re-route wiring harness and fuel line properly, and reseat spark plug permanently without ever removing engine or taking the engine apart. My Eurovan was another used project car which had no heat, leaking anti-freeze, drive shaft grinding noises as well as a few more minor issues. Kevin was literally the only mechanic I could find who was willing to take on the job of dash board removal for heater core replacement. He showed me the design of heat transfer box, and modified the original factory style to move even more hot air through ducts. Kevin improvised metal supports for dash where parts were no longer available, and he created an ingenious rear compartment heat outlet that was flush with the floor, so passengers dont trip on it as they enter and exit the rear seating area. He actually improved upon factory VW design specs. Kevin Eckler of Foreign Car Specialists has my appreciation, loyalty and respect.
I took my car there for a simple annual inspection last month. When I got my car home I discovered three things that I didnt ask for:1) My registration on my windshield was ripped.2) My trip meter was reset back to zero. Not sure why someone took it upon themselves to press the button and reset my meter. I reset it on January 1st and was calculating how many miles I drove in the calendar year.3) The inspection sticker they placed on my windshield didnt even have the hole punched for the month of inspection. All of these things really ticked me off.
The front looks small, but theres a lot of space out back. This place came highly recommended from a colleague. I felt at ease after talking to their front desk specialist Rick. Straight forward and explained the issues. Prices are fair. It seems like they have a great team.
Rare to find such auto mechanical service with INTEGRITY which encompasses many things, honesty and diligence among the top. I adopt the definition of integrity as always do the right thing ... even if no one is watching. And if you drop the ball, just do the next right thing. A high standard indeed. FCS did it right the 1st time.
Since 1989, when my neighbor, Dave Knapp (a 3rd generation engine designer), chose FCS to work on his cars, I have always taken our Volkswagons and the Audis, when we had them, to Kevin in Poughkeepsie. The latest benefit beyond the accurate and excellent service always fairly priced, is the keep and eye on this feature for older cars with issues. I also appreciate that most routine visits are finished in the time it takes to stroll across the Walkway and back. If I ever have to leave a car, I can take the train home!Thank you for helping me chose and maintain 25 years worth of (previously owned) family cars.
Worst experience of my life.Brandon the shop manager told me on a Friday that they would have an answer on Tuesday..I called on Wednesday an entire day after Brandon said he would have the estimate and got nothing but attitude from him.(I was nice)..the next day(an entire week had passed) at the end of the day i finally got an estimate..I took my volvo in for the tilt sensor ..its in the steering column..very easy part to replace...I already had all the covers off so all they had to do was push 2 clips ..take 3 t-25 screws out...remove steering wheel and clip the part in..a very easy process..YouTube it...its very easy..should take about 30 minutes..finally after a week I get an email estimate saying its going to be over $1200. The part online directly from volvo is about 400..they were going to charge me over $600 for the part..that leaves about $800 for literally 30 minutes of work..they told me that they charge the maximum allowed by the factory specs..regardless how much time it really took..and that they charge what they are worth because they are that good...truthfully disgusting human beings..I put the part in myself in less than a half hour..and it cost me the part..do not bring your vehicle to these creeps they will rob you.
I almost dont want to recommend this fantastic group of guys because then theyll get even more famous and even busier....Timely, thorough, cost effective, caring, friendly, cant say enough. And Rick, dedicated to the front desk is the lube that keeps the shop running smooth. Not only does he know front desk, he knows cars. Refreshing when one comes in saying -it makes this grrrrrrrr noise, the back end shimmys like my sista kate, or she just doesnt have any get up and go. He always counters with oh, that sounds like: and then the machine terminology starts spewing and I look for coffee......And if that isnt enough, hey they have great magazines. Not just car, muscle or hunting, but decorator, cooking, ones too.Ive said too much and not enough. Enjoy this shop, but dont get in my way.....

2022-05-12The sign on the front of the building which states “Voted Best Mechanic in the Hudson Valley” absolutely speaks for itself. Timely repairs were completed in addition to repairs that were called in after my 1984 Corvette was dropped off. Will definitely return for more service. “I’ll be back”👍🏾

2022-03-17Kevin, Lisa, Glenn and the entire team were an absolute pleasure to work with! I recently purchased a Land Rover from NJ with a check engine light. Foreign Car Specialists were able to diagnose the issue and repair same day along with a fresh oil change and bulb replacement. I loved the live in time interaction web page that provides you with your estimates and very detailed inspection notes with photos & videos. I highly recommend this team. A+

2022-06-16I really appreciated how quickly they got me in to deal with a check engine light. They provide a list of issues via text message with photos for you to review at your own pace. This is so much better than other shops where someone calls and overwhelms you with information. I will be back!

2022-05-12I brought my Boxter to FCS after research found them recommended by the HV Porsche Club and reviews that highlighted their professional service and communication. Upon arrival, they welcomed me and my car to their shop with friendly professional demeanor. Though at the end of the day, they did not hesitate to stay past the closing time to explain the process of communication through text and email with assurance of performing service on the car as if it were their own. They had me sign an authorization for not only oil change, but also other services typically due for the mileage. As I just got the vehicle last year with minimal service records given to me, I wasnt positive all that was done other than assurance by dealer that it was fully gone over for anything needed. Many service shops tend to upsell additional services. FCS did not. They werent sure it would be complete by end of day until they did full diagnosis. Well, to my surprise they contacted me to inform me that the additional services were not needed as all were in good shape. Kevin, Lisa, and crew have earned my trust with their honesty, good communication, good knowledge of these European cars, and overall top professionalism. They are good people and have earned my trust. I will return again for sure.

2022-02-14I brought my daughters car in because of no heat. I was told the heater core was clogged and needed to be flushed to clear the blockage we were charged over 500.00 talk about a rip off. I paid the bill because it was my daughters car. A job that takes literally 1.5 hours. Then recently when we tried to change her tire the tire lock was missing. The lock was in the trunk they lost the lock and wouldnt own up to it. They claim there free extensive inspection does not include removing tires to check brakes. The craziest thing I have ever heard. I had to pay another shop to remove all the locks from her wheels. Terrible customer service from start to finish there money makers. They dont care about the customer period. Go else where. Beware!!!!!

2022-06-20Very knowledgeable in servicing and maintaining Land Rovers. Text updates with photos of your vehicle and description of servicing go beyond comparison to my dealership. Courtesy car available. Call to schedule appointment instead of trying to book online.

2022-07-05I brought my 1964 Jaguar XKE to Kevin after experiencing so much frustration in getting it to run right and stop stalling. Kevin was meticulous, which is really an understatement! He performed a comprehensive analysis of the entire car and quickly eliminated potential sources of the problem (fuel system, the coil, etc) and identified a faulty distributor which he replaced. Problem solved! But he went the extra mile (s) from there and fixed the corroded switches, tuned up the brakes, painted the calipers, fixed the detonation timing on the starter motor, and innumerable other annoying little problems. After he finished (and left me with a comprehensive assessment of future issues, like replacing the clutch—which involves pulling the engine) I had a most glorious and uneventful 45 mile drive home, with the engine humming and performing perfectly. Wonderful experience and a great, caring team of mechanics!!!

2022-05-28I purchased a 2016 Nissan Altima late 9/21. The Check Engine light came on late 11/21. I chose to bring it there on 12/15/21, because of the reviews. I like the way that they responded to the reviews( both negative and positive), and it was convenient. My car was acting funny, like it wanted to accelerate on its own. The Check Engine reader code was for Retarded Cam Shaft. I took it and had the compete diagnostics. They told me that the Check Engine light was NOT ON when they looked at it, and there were factory codes on the reader and they deleted them. They provided me with the following suggested services...Approved Jobs (6)Diagnostic Inspection Stage One - Asian/Domestic (Check Engine Light)$189.22Multi-point Courtesy Inspection$0.00Plate Frames$0.00Drive Belt$236.09Brake Fluid Flush - Asian/Domestic - does not include correction of frozen bleeder screws$155.85Brake Evaluation - Asian/Domestic$72.98Declined Jobs (4)Front Brake Pad Service & Shim Replacement$275.53Rear Brake Pads & Rotors$654.11Brake Light Switch & Wiring$403.46Battery$394.03The Check Engine light had been ON when I dropped it off, and two weeks before CONSISTENTLY, but I figured they were the professionals. Less than one week after the work was completed, the light came back on. I decided to take it to Poughkeepsie Nissan who quickly confirmed the Cam Shaft problem. They said the something was stuck open and three components were replaced, under my warranty. They suggested that I change the CVT fluid and I did ( Ove 70,000 miles). I also had a courtesy inspection and no other issues were found. I replaced a battery terminal myself. The terminal cost $14.00, on Amazon, and I have not needed to replace the battery and I did this in the winter. I have had the brakes and rotors checked at Mavis, and there are no issues. I have had no issues with the Brake Light Switch and Wiring.I am not in the business of bashing anyones work, we all need to make a dollar. I have waited almost six months to give this review. I needed to see if those issues came up and they have not.You decide.I work very hard for my money and cannot afford to waste a dime. Two stars because the people are really nice.
