When I was little, my Oma and Opa would bring products from the Forest Pork Store out to Montauk for us. As I got old enough to stay with them for a week up island, they would bring me to the Huntington Station store, where theyd order from the butchers in German. Theyd known the place in Queens and started coming to the Huntington location when they move out to the island. Now Im forty and I still make sure I stop by a couple of times a year for the fabulous liverwurst (get the kind with goose liver added), salami (seasoned differently than Italian salamies), rye bread (without caraway and with a wonderful dark crust), and other german products. They have some lovely wursts and great hot dogs. Also, you can get a lot of chocolates, gummies, candies, and marzipan--even more selection if you go near Christmas or Easter. The beer selection is not vast, but it is quality. If youve never been, I highly recommend you check out the Forest Pork Store. Its a delicious relic from a previous era and worth experiencing while its still here.
I have been going to this place since I was a child, and am always overwhelmed by a wave of sentimentality whenever I walk through its doors. The staff are incredibly friendly and create a warm, welcoming atmosphere. Also, the products they carry are incredible and of the highest quality. They offer many imported goods from Germany and Eastern Europe as well as freshly made meat and bread products.
As far as I know perhaps the only store in Suffolk County (and perhaps Nassau as well) that specializes in all types of German products. Well worth the visit particularly for their great selection of sausages, chops, fresh/dried meats and cold cuts. Staff are very friendly and helpful. Highly recommend.
Best German butcher around! Try the Leberkasse. Its like a homemade bologna, but 10x better. Warm, on rye or a roll with mustard. While youre at it, pick up some Bratwurst for dinner, and a few Landjaeger ( think of a really good, not so dry Slim Jim; no, way better than that, and not so slim). Top-notch meats, too! Ribs, roasts, chop meat and smoked pork. You cant go wrong with anything that they have. Ask the butcher what he likes and give it a try.
All the meat products were amazing! Smoked pork chop, shell steak all the sausages the sides were great also.Reminds me of when I was young girl going to German butcher getting slice of bologna in queens and visiting Germany. Next time trying the sauerbraten and anything else they have!
Very disappointed today after leaving work early trying to get some cocktail franks for New years and yet again like last year they sold the last ones to people right in front of me and was told they have no more. How can they not plan for something that is a German tradition to have these available. These home made ones are very hard to find anywhere else so they should order extra and get rid of the regular skinless franks which are quite frankly awful as they taste like chicken broth and no snap to them and The liverwurst with onions which used to be the best but is also not the same now and just coarse and tasteless... somethings are good but you take your chances now... you cant even phone as the recording says they are too busy and direct you to go to the store and when you get to the store the response is oh well Im sorry. My new years resolution is to stop going to Forests Pork Store from now on
This place is the best. Everyone who works there is very friendly, and very helpful. They always give you service with a smile, and their products are amazing. If I could give them 10 stars I would!Update: I had their marinated bone in steak..... Absolutely incredible. By far the most tender steak i have ever had. These guys NEVER cease to amaze me.
FANTASTIC German Butcher. What are you waiting for? I absolutely love this place. I dont say that too often. I just recently found this store and was thrilled. Ive had many of the wursts and other meats. The Weisswurst is a favorite of mine having had this in Munich and many other villages in Germany. Forest Porks Weisswurst is fantastic and very authentic. Make sure you also try the Krainerwurst smoked sausage. Truly amazing! They also have a lot of other German foods and package goods.
This place is #1. Best sausages, meats and their BACON is AMAZING! Theyve been around for a long time, but without a doubt they are on their A-Game! Bunch of butchers in the back doing work all day long. Stop by and youll find amazing foods and some pretty unique German stuff as well. Sweets, candies, wines, etc. Loved it.
I love Forest Pork Store. I have been going there for decades. But, the way they treat COVID is a joke. There were 7 butchers behind the counter. Not a single one wore a mask. Yes, they had face shields. But, as is well documented, face shields offer ZERO protection. In fact, every breath the butcher takes falls right on the food. Second, there was no crowd control. The store had 19 customers in it when I was there. How can you possibly have 6 foot separation with that many people in that store? The Suffolk Department of Health needs to step in, ASAP.
The men behind the counter are always very helpful and courteous and know their stuff! I drive from Baldwin to Huntington station to the forest pork store to stock up on my meats, sausages, spices etc. and every mile is worth the trip. I do regret that I cant get the magazines and crossword puzzles anymore! I will be back.
This place reminds me of the Metzgerei I would visit when stationed in Germany years ago. For a little store, it contains a lot of German food items you cant normally get at your local grocery store. They have two meat counters, plus shelves of German food items. In addition to buying items in the store, they will ship via UPS.
I dont know what Lauries problem is, but the service here is outstanding, beyond reproach. You do have to take a number, but when its called, you have their complete attention. Phenomenal selection of traditional house-made wursts and hams, smoked pork products, bacon plus fresh meats all from their location in Ridgewood. Plus mustards, preserves, and... beer!
Staff, store and food!!! 10 Stars!!Brought up something I ate for breakfast as a kid at work....& a coworker said I know what it was!! Pointed me right to Forest Pork...rushed over at lunch and it is!!! Soooooo good. Staff was busy but super polite and helpful. Gotta go back!! So many memories of 1984!!(person who served it year ago is gone sadly)
My family has referred to this place as the German Butcher since before I was alive, and its a favorite of my Grandma, who grew up in prewar Germany. Everything there is top notch, and a few things there I have never seen elsewhere. You can hear them talking in German in the back. It is a bit pricey, but well worth it.
What can i say about this German store.the food is phenomenal, old school butchers.homemade hot dogs try the old fashion hot dogs they snap when you bite them.a little pricey if you are on a budget.i make special trips from the eastend to go there it will not disappoint

2021-09-18The meat is amazing, the selection of German imported goods is great and makes me feel very nostalgic. The best part however is the customer service. The crew is very friendly and helpful and they go above and beyond to make sure you have a great experience. Will definitely be coming back here from now on for most of my meat shopping trips and will slowly eat my way through their selection.

2021-04-14More brands and styles of mustard than I ever thought existed. Well organized products out of primarily German cuisine. Beautiful looking cuts if meat and brats and wieners of all shapes and sizes. I was attracted to the freezer full of large German soft pretzels and the red creamy birch soda. Went well with my lunch of cod liver and German pretzel. Worth a visit. You may find a few new things you never knew existed. Pleasant staff as well.

2021-08-13I’m a fan of this butcher store for over 20 years and I travel about 28 miles each way to get my cold cuts there. For the second time in two weeks I am put on hold for a really long time. I just hung up after listen to the music for 13 minutesI’ll try some of the polish butcher shops near me. I understand they are pretty good as well

2018-06-22The best German pork store this side of Dusseldorf! If you want tip top Wurst, meat, salads and German rye bread this is the place for you. Friendly folk and clean as a whistle. Cant say enough good things about this place. But then once youve eaten a few of their bratwurst, kreinerwurst or knockwurst youll understand!
