Beautiful park, with views of Throgs Neck bridge, but can get quite crowded on weekends. Parking is available if you can snag a spot but theres another lot further down as well. Park and walk inside the park gates (military checkpoint at the front). Moderate stroll will take you to the actual fort which is old timey and what you would expect. Not a lot of people actually go and visit the fort but the rangers at the front were very welcoming.
This is a wonderful place in my life. Especially in 2020 where covid-19 is upon us. My girl and I spent a great time here together. Even though now our relationship is unknown right now 😥, I will never forget about this place. I came back again today to watch the sunset alone. I walked and explored the same path again that we had walked last time. This time you are not with me.. baby. I love you so much!♥️ I know you like to ask me binary and prime numbers.
It’s an amazing place to spend the day with family and friends. There is a playground for children, swimming pool etc. People goes inside for running, skateboarding or cycling. There’s parking spot available as well. The bathroom is clean and new. The houses are abandoned and some areas are restricted for NYPD and coast guards. Overall it’s a nice place to visit.
August 8, 2020I know we all have those days when we just want a nice walk with the person we love on a day with a clear sky. It was my first visit to Fort Totten, I am in love! Its not only close by, it has a nice walking trail as well as a rocky path(?) going into the waters. I was wearing long sleeves with a light jacket and I didnt get a single bug bite. I did avoid putting on a sweet perfume though. Anyways, there are some people fishing, walking, sitting and drinking beer, it was a good ambiance. Will go back again! Oh, make sure you dont enter through a gate to park, thats a military zone.
Had a nice little walk here with my 2 week old baby. Very quiet on a weekday afternoon in the winter (it was pleasant 55 though). There are government buildings, some abandoned, a big parade ground that is also a sports field. Some nice views of the throgs neck bridge. Easy parking. Not sure what there is really to do here other than walk around. Was hoping to see some “fort” but couldn’t find anything like that.
I went there on a late June Sunday evening and it was magical. You can the parking lot is pretty spacious, but could be easily overwhelmed on a weekend. The view at the bridge and to the fort are amazing. The stone path is really nice. The park has pretty good walk around areas. Its a really nice place to hangout and spend some quality time. I would highly recommend this park to everyone.
A great place to take your family, for children to play! This park is tucked away in close view of the Throgs Neck Bridge and offers lots of relaxing, wooded space for hiking, walking, and cycling. The playground is large, newer, and well kept. Theres plenty of free parking, too. In our household, this is definitely a top park in Queens.
Lovely Park with some amazing views of the Throggs NecK Bridge. Gorgeos in the day but breathtaking in the night. You can actually follow the path underneath the bridge to get a different view. The Fort itself is closed right now, but the park is open. Can get crowded if you come later (after 1pm ish) on weekends. The path is pretty long so jogging, walking or biking would all be great forms of exercise here. Lots of fishing going on there. I saw fish being pulled up on a few ocassions. You may want to get there early and get a good shaded spot. The park is very safe. Clean bathrooms. Lots of parking spaces available but can get crowded in the late morning/early afternoon on weekends. Best of all...the park is completely free! I highly recommend a visit. The nearby area on Bell Blvd. has some nice shops and eateries.
Its a park with an ocean view- what more can you ask for? Its well kept. Nice green grass. You can walk out in the seawall.. if youre paranoid of falling, its just that more fun. Originally came to see the Iron Throne but sadly it was a five hour wait & we couldnt justify that wait.... All hail Tyrion!
If your coming here for the ruins of Fort Totten or a wilderness experience, rethink your trip. That being said it does have some interesting elements, and is closer to Govenors Island before they put all that money into it. Their is little actual park consisting more of a small military base that has been mostly abandoned and left to ruin, like Govenors Island you cant access the great old buildings but their fun to walk by. The park part consists of a huge lawn in the center, the small but nice old base outdoor pool, a small playground and ball field, and a jetty. Not a lot of nature here but a hell of a view of the bridge. The pictures you see of the old fort would make your think you can access them but most of that is locked and only available to see on certain event days. Its best to come here for an event as there isnt that much to do, though its nice to be able to ride your bike on paved streets relatively worry free about cars. Of course their is some FDNY EMT presence and cost guard but honestly its minimal. Not many stores nearby so if you dont have a car pack a lunch, this place is more of a spot for locals to walk their dogs and well, themselves I suppose, which I think is an honest assessment. Probably not worth a pilgrimage, fun, but if your looking for a big park consider nearby Cunningham or Alley Pond.
If you love historical sites , this is a must go place... beautiful historical buildings which they were in the process of restoring , which I was glad to see.. beautiful views of little neck bay and the bridge, my boyfriend and I walked around the whole Park , great place to go and learn about our history and see nature... Didnt get to see the fort , there were some areas that were off limits maybe do to the restoring of some of the buildings, but still a great day we had , and parking was easy , there was plenty of spots
Always the place to go to chill if you are from Flushing or Bayside or Brooklyn. Always scenic. Theres the Rocks at Little Bay Park which are popular or if you wanna explore inside the fort, you can just walk in. Sunsets are great in the summer but too many mosquitoes.
By a stroke of luck, the 6th location for the Iron Throne replica (the Throne of the Crypt) landed in New York, following Sweden, Brazil, Canada, the UK and Spain. I happened to be visiting my MIL in Queens so it was a no brainer that I go check it out.We arrived at the Fort Totten Park on Saturday at 7:00 am sharp, just when they opened the gates and the line started marching toward the historic battery which is about 10-15 minutes walk. After going through a long underground tunnel, the impressive two level Civil War era fortification appeared in full view, overlooking the East River and the Throgs Neck Bridge. Everyone started taking pictures in no time. The line zigzagged through the lower level chambers, so we get to people watch as we advanced through the line. There were quite a few cos-players, some very impressive. My favorite is the Jon Snow (a little bit of Samwell Tarly too I thought), see pic. There were also 2 actors dressed in official Game of Thrones costumes taking turns between tending the Iron Throne and chatting/posing with visitors waiting in line. They had to audition for this role. One of them supposedly appear in Blue Bloods. The wait for us was around 2.5 hours. The Iron Throne was very impressive, though smaller than I had imagined. Theres also a sword in front of it. Each person had 30 seconds to sit at the throne and pose for pictures. A staff actually used a timer to get people moving! It was funny to see people frantically scrambling through different poses as the 30 second clock ticked away. We, too, felt the stress when it was our turn at the throne :)It was a super fun and memorable event. For this I am grateful to Fort Totten Park. Five stars!!
Beautiful park with amazing landmarks and buildings. Large field to enjoy with your kids. A small public pool that almost seems like a private pool since its on the other side of Ft. Totten. The playground is nice for kids but so well hidden you wouldnt know its there. Great views of Throggs Neck Bridge and of the water.
Fort Totten Park was the trendiest place last year when the Game of Throne launched their last Season. There was a couple of thrones hidden around the world including the Fort Totten Park in Queens, New York.We tried to visit last year but the parking was super bad then so we didn’t get a chance to check it out ourselves. Our friends told us it’s a beautiful park with great bridge views recently and we decided to have a walk here. However, the park was closed during COVID-19 period and we only could walk by the lake. The view was still amazingly great and it was pity that we couldn’t go into the park. We will definitely come back again when they reopen.
Me and my two other friends went their to do some portraits photography. If you are a photography and love to do low light , long exposers landscapes , this is the place for you. The picture comes really great. In general, the park is great. It has a public restroom. Plenty of parking place, huge parking lot.Greta place to visit with friends and family.
Fort Totten Park is a beautiful area with lots of parking to park your car and explore the area. The protrusions into the water gives you a perfect stage for beautiful pictures with the bridge in the back. There are plenty of spaces to set up a party 🥳 or a small event. The only thing is they dont let you inside the residential area to get to the playground you have to walk from the parking lot.
Its an alright place, but most of the buildings look off or broken, but they have a very sweet and adorable cat in one of the buildings. There isnt a lot of shade and it wont help much, youll basically be burning alive out there if it was the location of a camp, but overall its a pretty decent spot.
Family friendly and wasnt crowded. For first timers its a bit of a walk. You park in the lot at the entrance and walk to the pool. There are lockers to store your items, so pack a lock - or two. But try not to over pack because theyre a little over the size of a mailbox.
I went with my TaiChi teacher last summer, and found this a great place to be. We stayed here for about two hours and toke a lot of pictures. We went into the visitors Center at the Forts entrance. The Fort Totten Park is pretty big, and there is a local fire engine there, and I guess that many people lives there also. There is a huge soccer field inside.
Very nice park out near the throgs neck bridge. what is a throgs neck anyway? is it the neck of the throg? or multiple throgs together and this forms their neck? I once heard that the throg was an ancient giraffe-like creature that prowled the shores and would reach its long neck across the water to eat from the trees on the other side that grew grayberries. While it would feed, people would walk across the neck. Eventually all the throgs were killed for their long bones to make tents and when the new bridge was built they named it after it. But it could also be the other multiple throg option.
Good walk in the park in the cool winter afternoon. It seems like gated but you can go right in. Its a State Park indeed. The whole go around is about 1 mile. Easy walk and nice view around the bay. A lot of broken historical building. Some looks like ghost house to me and interesting. Plenty of parking and there is also a small playground inside the park.
This park is perfect for a family day. It amazingly gives us a glimpse of our history while being well-rested on their grounds. The historical structures are well-preserved and the other facilities and outdoor activities make this place more vibrant. My family just visited here last week and my boys had great fun. They learned a lot about the history of New York while they enjoy the pool. The place is pet-friendly as well and Im glad that we were able to bring our dog.
This is truly a really nice park, today was my first time there.this park is really great for taking pictures. Especially for couples who are expecting a little bundle of joy. This park has really nice back drop. And they also have a swimming pool but today it wasnt open do to the hold covid situation, they also have a nice size parking lot, with a terrific view of the bridge and water ,that view definitely makes for an amazing back drop.So my first experience here was a good one, dont for get this place is also good for jogging and a nice walk, plus you have a few different lawns to choose from for a picnic.
This park has gotten more and more crowded over the years. Especially on the weekends. But for good reason. The sunset and sunrise photo opportunities here are endless. Great place in Queens with ample parking in two/three parking lots. Beginning, middle, and end.Dog friendly. Quite a few bikes. Make sure to stay on the waking lane!
Great family walking, hiking, playground, rock climbing park.Wr walked around the fort...the museum is closed due to COVID restrictions however you are able to walk on the grounds and climb the rocks over the water..Wear sneakers since the rocks can be slippery.Social distancing was maintained and most people wear sporting face masks.
I expect this would deserve a 5 star rating if the Battery tunnels were open but I visited off season & during Covid so the visitor center & access to the tunnels were locked off. Unfortunately Google listing did not properly warn me of that possibility because technically the park is open but the part you go to see is closed. I will return post Covid & submit another review.
This park has good accessibility to the water, little neck bay. I do enjoy the historic buildings in the park, as well as the wildlife. Additionally, part of the area is restricted, as the U.S army reserve maintains a presence in fort totten. Many of the buildings are abandoned, but that adds to the flavor of the park. I recommend this park for all ages. Be careful on the rocks though!
Beautiful. Serene. Precious water views. Bridge at night from the parking lot is sweet. Great for a variety of activites: sitting, talking, walking, biking, picture taking, biking, relaxing. Best with your walking shoes, a bottle of water and a lap around the Fort Totten buildings.
A very cool park in an out of the way area. It wasnt too crowded which was nice, and I enjoyed seeing all the old buildings from the fort and thinking about their history. Additionally, its really interesting that theres still an active base on the grounds! That was pretty cool to see. Next time I come back, Ill be sure to bring my dog.
Clean, friendly, nice, good for kids of all ages. Just have a lock with you and ... come early. It is one of the smaller free pools, but it is way better than any other I have been to. And sometimes you need to wait in line to get in and changing rooms are not very useful, but otherwise worth going to. A bit of a walk from the parking area, but parking is always available and free too.
A pristine stretch surrounding a preserved Civil War fortress, Fort Totten Park provides not only recreation and relaxation but a fascinating glimpse into New York’s past.Year-round, New Yorkers flock to Fort Totten Park to enjoy its special events, natural wonders, and historic buildings. On hot summer days, swimmers can take a dip in the pool and sunbathe around its grassy edges, or take canoes out and paddle along the Long Island Sound. During the winter, bird enthusiasts congregate to watch migrating waterfowl rest before their long journey south. And exploring the fortress and its surrounding buildings remains a unique adventure during any season.Urban Park Rangers lead regular tours of the fortress and the wildlife surrounding it for those who enjoy guided treks, and a visitors’ center inside the park provides helpful information on the park’s past for those prefer to scout alone.Copied: N.Y.C Park
Its really pretty and they have some activities for kids, however the rangers are not that helpful. I was directed in several different directions before I got the visitors center. So if your planning on going here see if you can get a map at the entrance or have one handy before you enter the park.
The park is very beautiful and there is a variety of open spaces to explore and enjoy with children. The park is very accessible and wheelchair bound pedestrians can still enjoy the views. Children should be surpervised by the rock outcrop, but it is a worthwhile adventure with turtles for the young ones to spot.
The park is kept clean. There is parking available at the Bell Boulevard exit right off the Cross Island before you hit the Throgs Neck Bridge. The bike path is very nice to ride and the views are nice as well. Fairly new restrooms were installed near the parking lot and everything is kept clean.
One of my favorite spot to go and enjoy.Love this place during summer time. Eating ice cream and looking at the view of the Throgs Neck Bridge. The parking area is huge and free. If you are going there and don’t know the area just be careful because the GPS is a bit messy. We just sit on the rock sometime and talk about life. Also when I go with my friends we have race on the rock path lol.
Great park and worth the trek. I journeyed out here for a guided tour and it was very educational. There are a lot of buildings that are old and falling apart but that just makes this place just a bit more interesting. I would recommend taking the Q16 bus instead of the Q13, youll save about 30 minutes of commuting.
This place is manicured to the top. Clean with lots of green around you. This park has something you rarely see in New York parks - clean bathrooms! Good for biking or running around. Has a baseball field, kids playground and amazing views of the water. Definitely an upscale park.
This place is just cool. The parking lot is well lit at night to stop any riff raff, you can actually go all the way out on the rocks and get an even closer look at the bridge. Nothing else to do here really but its a nice place to sit and talk about life, conspiracy theories etc
Great community spot with views of the throggs neck and Whitestone bridges. nice walking trails. Rocky outcropping for beautiful pictures. a few months back was one of the locations for the promotional game of thrones throne. actually used for police and navy(?) servicemember training and residential base. sometimes patrol boats sent out from here. good free parking lot but limited parking, especially when the weather is good, and tbh even when its not. ice cream trucks and community pool in the summer. great place to visit with family and friends. love the view. highly recommend.
Great place to escape the crowded streets and take a stroll on the water with a great view of the bridges connecting to the bronx. with nice history behind it. and even the occasional group of Biology students sampling the fish in the waters. you will enjoy the walk to this park.
Fort Totten has always been a happy place for my spouse and myself for many years. Late evening walks, sitting on the rocks listening to the water crashing against it while overlooking the Throgs Neck bridge is quite serene for us. On days when we feel like having a running date we would go for a nice relaxing run together with all the other lovely health for life devotees. We love Fort Totten.
Lots of parking spaces and with restroom at the entrance, bike path is short but flat great for family with young kids. Kayak launch also available from April to Nov with seasonal permit from the city. The permit fee is $30 a year, but the permit is good for over 50 kayak launch location in 5 boros.

2022-04-28Fort Totten is rich with History. You can see it in the architecture if you choose to explore this park. After a 4 mile run I took the opportunity to visit the site and enjoyed every step of the way. The grounds were well manicured and the Spring tulips and other flowers were in perfect bloom.I had a Fantastic visit and plan to return with my family.

2022-05-16We usually trek to Brooklyn Bridge Park or LIC on days when its warm enough to want to be near the water but not in the water. This is a great alternative with beautiful views, history and plenty of space. There isnt much shade but there was a nice breeze along the water. Huge parking lot but it fills up fast so get there early or be prepared to wait and jockey for a spot on weekends.

2022-06-19The fort is really fun to explore! I went at noon on a Saturday and there was almost no one there. The rocky shores nearby are also nice to beachcomb at low tide— found some blue and aqua seaglass!

2021-08-07Amazing park. Very relaxing with beautiful view. Nice walkway with benches. Parking lot can be crowded sometimes and public bathrooms only open during the day (evening/night closed). Ice cream truck is also there from time to time. You can see people fishing, riding their bikes or just sitting in their camping chairs enjoying the view. Beautiful sunset, definitely worth to visit! There is also a dog park.

2022-05-29An old military site from 1862 in the middle of Queens it is definitely worth a trip there, but you should bring time and comfortable shoes. A few years ago there was a version of the Iron Throne from GOT.

2022-01-04This is an amazing park with beautiful views along the paths. One of my favorite places to exercise or relax with great sunsets and mornings. I come here regularly for runs and walks and people are always doing something here, whether its fishing, reading or chilling in their chairs to enjoy the view. Very well maintained, clean, family friendly atmosphere and just a great place to spend time outdoors.

2021-08-10Hidden gem in the neighborhood for scenic view of the bridge. First time here was when I first started driving, there’s a small parking lot so it’s a pretty convenient spot. The pier extends out on rocks you can walk all the way to the end (fun but also tiring LOL)
