Fortune Society in other cities:
Love the place. The Career Councillors are very resourceful and patient. Marilyn my career councillor is GREAT Person shes approachable and comfortable to work with. Ive taken there employment workshop. There Instructor Donald is absolutely the BEST And Ridiculously FUNNY. Hes help me in more ways than just doing mock interview. His examples on how to look at yourself and life in general has me questioning my own attitude & behaviors. And the old Eileen can change and be productive in all areas in my life. IF YOU CAN SEE IT, YOU CAN BE IT.If your thinking of coming to Fortune Society. You are making a very wise decision.THANK YOU FORTUNE SOCIETY. FOR SHOWING ME HOW TO LOOK AT THINGS DIFFERENTLY TODAY AND KNOWING THAT ANYTHING IS POSSIBLE, WHEN YOU PUT YOUR MIND TO IT.
Having to start over in a city you have no family in after lost time from choices in life can be a ultimate challenge. What Fortune has provided over the years in many different ways and fashions impacting formerly incarcerated, recovery and disadvantaged are deserving of acknowledgement. Thank You.
Its a foundation of a great story when someone is coming home and there are people that are willing to give you a helping hand to get you on your feet, while you or we were so lost in our own faculties. There are always real & positive individuals who are willing to give us a second chance & aHand to get us back on our feets. Fortune is that face & rock for those who had a low self-esteem in their characters, and fortune is that place for second chances. That is why I personally chosen fortune for my opportunity & future for a better way of living & remaining free...
Thank You for answering my call and making me feel like I was a friend. Im in California and Im trying to make things happen. Maybe a temporary job so I can get the money together for airfare. Im 51 and have yet to enjoy my freedom in a jubilant manner. I suffer from some anger issues directed at myself for failing and enveloping myself in addiction and I feel in my heart I have to make this particular problem a priority in my life. Ill keep in touch
This was a place that saved my family members life. The staff was so caring and in looking back, Fortune was my treasure. I wish my child would reach out to those in the C.I.R.T. team because he could benefit from those folks more than the “help” he is getting now. They not only got him out of what was for our family a foreign issue, but they gave him hope. HOPE is everything.
Ive been to them twice. Once in 2004 and I found MYSELF employment while they kept promising to find me employment. Then in 2015, I returned to them in their new location. They helped me get assistance for food but NOT housing. After 2 months of fruitless job interviews they put me in a program for how to interview and build a resume, skills that I already had. Still I went with an open mind. From there I was to intern for the Legal Aid Society and possible turn over into a permanent placement. They provided me with a weekly train pass and $9.00/hr salary but I was to work less than 20 hours per week.My supervisor at Legal Aid Society (Alan Fox) raved about my work to the Fortune Society. At the end of my trial employment, which ended around the end of December, Mr. Fox, informed me that they needed to go over their budget and that then he would be getting back to me for my return to Legal Aid as a temporary hire. He explained that this was how they hired people, first as temporary then permanent.THAT WAS THE LAST TIME I HEARD FROM ANYBODY!!! CALLS WENT UNANSWERED OR RETURNED AS DID REPEATED EMAILS TO MY CASE WORKER AT FORTUNE!!! NO REASON AT ALL FROM ANYBODY ABOUT WHAT WENT WRONG AS IF I NEVER EXISTED!They talk about how to tell employers how hiring an ex-con could give them a tax break... But I believe thats exactly what they did. Used me for a tax break and then kicked me to the curb.
Just happened to stop in this very good re-entry and transition program for people with challenging lives, and who should be visiting too, none other than the incredibly talented Tracy Morgan..Tracy Morgan is one of The Fortune Society believers who lend his talents, skills and experiences to the day-to-day operations when he can. His fundraising event prowess is well known, with a Comedy Show recently on The New York University Campus at Washington Square..While not a near perfect program opportunity, The Fortune Society believers show themselves to be a cut above and a significant asset to the community..
Staff at times are unprofessional rude and patronizing like there above u even though they claim to come from the same circumstances and have a degree of empathy the program can work it has worked for me but communicating with staff can be difficult and deterring at times
Worthless, In seven months my case manager has done nothing. My employment consoler has done nothing. She said that I didnt show her respec I still dont know what she was talking about. Im blatantly treated differently and not helped because Im white. they are shamelessly biased. I tried and wasted a lot of time sitting there being ignored and stayed positive. I have to accept that they will not help me. I tried Osborne, its the same thing.
I got out of fed prison on 12-02-2014, I first attended the Osborne Association in the Bronx, NY. which was good. However, it wasnt until I did the Fortune Societys Program that I got a Brooklyn job at Elite Connect RE in October of 2015. I thank Fortune Society. Im still on the job in February of 2019 with 2 raises and promotions in that time. With my help, Elite Connect went from $14 million to $154 million last year. However, due to my record, I cant be a broker there. I was once a banker who went to jail for crimes done by my hires for which I as CEO take full responsibility. Starting out at over 63 years old at $10 dollars an hour is hard were it not for the training on re-prioritizing my life goals. I recently called Fortune to say thanks but some folks there moved on elsewhere. Im almost 66 years old and will retire soon from full time. I pray to give back part time to the Fortune Society since giving back is part of my healing. Bless you all. Abd Taaala Ibn Ali Al-Ishtari, or just AT.
This service is horrible and worthless they have sales people not helpers/ workers..they come to rikers island sign up as many people as possible and make empty promises..less than 1% I have seen or better yet receive ...my suggestion do not use this service unless u want to rely on broken promises and false offers..it will never or barely ever happen
A very good place for people trying to change their lifes for the better. Ms. Ann Travers, Senior Director, Care management, David Thorpe CASAC, OWDS, Kelly Fortner, Care Navigator, Ashanty Reece, Care Navigator, Adelaide Connaughton, Senior Entitlement Specialist, And of course Mr. Stanley Senior Vice President. These are the foundation and its strong, their strong and WILL help you whenever needed. Not to mention the Mental Health and Hygiene part, Dr. Sloan and Therapist Maggie helps me daily. I bug them alot and im so sorry but anyone would love to spend time with people so gteat.

2022-03-15Wonderful nonprofit organization dedicated to helping adults and youths in need of specialized services for their justice involvement, such as housing, health, employment, benefits, and advocacy. Walk-ins are welcomed and full case management is offered, all they ask is for you to show up and make an effort.
