Maybe it’s best to eat-in:- By the time I made it back to work(a 10-13min drive) my waffles were soggy.- Grits had wayyyy to much BUTTER and Sugar in them. (Sugar in grits should be customers’ option. Me myself I don’t like sugar in grits) Picture is of the grits with BUTTER.- Fried Chicken breast was fresh, seasoned well and crispy.- Customer service was nice, I’m unsure if I’ll eat here again. Thanks
The food was really bad! Ribs were obviously not made fresh that day. They tasted like reheated disappointment. Mac and cheese was bland and also tasted like it was made days ago. I was told 30 minutes wait for my order pick up and ended up waiting around 45 minutes. The only decent thing was the red velvet waffles. Not good enough to solely make the trip for though. Just a gimmick item to get you in the door

Today was the first time we tried Freddy J’s and we’ll definitely be back soon! I got the fried chicken and red velvet waffles with a side of Mac and cheese. It was one of the best meals over ever had. Great price for huge portions! I couldn’t even finish mine which made my husband happy. So glad we found this place!
I absolutely give this place one star only thing that was good from what I ordered was the chicken and it was my first time visiting that place never again Im pretty sure he could have done better with the rest of my order but it looked like it had been sitting there just waiting for someone to eat it and he gave it to me just wrong I didnt complain I just know not to go back
The food again was nothing short of amazing. I got the jerk fish with rice and veg, and grits and greens. All were A+. Cant wait to go back.
Completely disappointed...3 meals deep. Canned and dry as a desert greens, dry and tasteless cooked macaroni with melted cheese, fried fish tasted like eggs, blah ribs were not grilled, BBQ chicken is fried with sauce poured on top...should I have ordered chicken tenders instead? This is NOT soul food nor is it a BBQ restaurant. Never again!
This was my first time coming here and I ordered the Barbecue chicken dinner with macaroni and cheese and collard greens. The food was excellent and for $15 it was worth every penny. And Fred himself is a really great dude with a even greater attitude

They are pushy with getting you to order then they take your money and go into there fridge and warm up left over mac&cheese and grab a fresh frozen patty from the box for your burgers this guy is more worried about putting his face on everything than about serving good food THIS IS NOT BBQ you can get the same quality from a tv dinner

Great food...if u dont like sweet grits dont order grits. I enjoy the 🐟,🐔 and waffles...made to order while u wait or call in... No much seating but more like a small Bistro... More seats on patio when warm weather is present. See you soon Freddy
Omg The best restaurant hands down food is always fresh and delicious I was never a big fan of red velvet till I had their red velvet waffles omfg to die for and their grits leave me speechless EVERYTIME …. I went to freddys today by recommendation and i must say, i was IMPRESSED. although its a small place, they have a modest bar inside and some patio seating. I was greeted and given the menu. I went with the fried chicken and red velvet waffles, and let me tell you, it was AMAZING (mind you i ordered to-go). I cant wait to go back!
A small, intimate restaurant where you eat counter side. The Mac and Cheese, red velvet waffles, and fried chicken are delicious. One of my favorite spots in Buffalo for brunch. Its best when you dine in and cooked by Freddy himself.
Favorite breakfast in all of buffalo. Order takeout so you can avoid a wait because I promise the small restaurant is always full. The waffles are amazing but everything on the menu is made to perfection.
The Red Velvet waffles and Chicken are EXCELLENT. So is the customer service but you dont feel like a customer thats the great part. You feel like your at home. I HIGHLY recommend this restaurant to go for good food. Also a good time !
The food is absolutely BOMB. So damn good. Nothing beats their chicken nor the mac & cheese. The hospitality from Freddy & his coworkers is unrivaled. They are simply the kindest, warmest, happiest people and its one of the reasons I continue to go to Freddy Js.

I only give it 4 stars because sometimes my serving of grits are tiny-which sucks because I always want more. I keep supporting though because i enjoy the way they season the fish and their hours are so appreciated. 😍Today though, I had my usual fish, grits, and greens and I was more than satisfied with my serving! So full! Mm! I hope this place expands! 😊
Their fried chicken and red velvet waffles are amazing. He makes the Mac and cheese to order. The place is really small. Maybe 6 chairs next to where he cooks, but he offers take out. Really good food and hes super friendly.

Ive been in and out of Freddy J’s since i first got to Buffalo State and was fortunate enough to have Freddy J, in the flesh, cook for my friend and I as we sat at the “bar” and had a chat about life and some of his future plans. I’ve been hooked ever since, even though he now has 2 other wonderful cooks in his place. The waffles, with syrup and powdered sugar are so flavorful and fluffy- not overwhelming and the Fried chicken is a beautiful golden brown and seasoned to the T. I’ve had it as a lunch and as a “brunch breakfast” with scrambled eggs on the side. Equally as bomb as everything else. The Mac and Cheese is insane. A must try. The food is cooked slowly, with patience and love so if you’re in a rush, this is not the place for you. Even though the location is small (outside seating in the warmer weather is great) it packs a powerful punch. If I had the money I’d definitely invest in opening new locations lol
I ordered the fish and waffles with scrambled eggs on the side. The fish was great, I really didnt care for the waffles and the eggs were great as well. I will definitely order again just something different.
One of the West Sides best kept secrets, at least from me. This seemingly obscure restaurant serves amazing ribs and fish (yes fish at a BBQ place). Staff is friendly and helpful, and youll literally be surprised how good the food is. Get there early because its so good, they unavoidably run out of the more popular menu items before closing. Only down side, is they close kind of early.
Amazing for breakfast lunch or dinner. Very popular, great food made to order with an open kitchen. Better for takeout versus sitting as there is minimal seating (counter space only) Red velvet pancakes and bbq are their specialty. Highly recommend

Ive known Freddy for years, but never eat in his place. Its small, sits about 7, and he has photos of people, places and things he had done. I give him 4 stars, because the food is excellent, and Ive gone to many events that he has personally catered. I would give five stars if he had a bigger place.

Small and crapped, but atmosphere is comfortable and nice. The food is really good, I would say a little pricy for the portions, but the quality makes up for it.Freddy is a great guy fun to talk to and its always nice to support local business.
The food was AMAZING!!! We ordered a little lf everything and when I tell you bomb OMG. From the fish sandwhich on pita to the jerk chicken everything taste great. The service was incredible Chef John and Steve are hilarious together. Cant wait to go back. If you are in Buffalo or the surrounding area a must go to spot for some good Soul food. Stop by this place for lunch. Had their beef ribs. It was very tasty. But too saucy for me. I did enjoy the seasoning they put on. The sides could be better. Overall good experience. Not bad for the value.
Worse breakfast ever .... Red velvet chicken and waffles ... 1 piece of Chicken breast when wings were advertised... Sliced very thin (looked like tilapia frozen bagged fish) No flavor... Waffles no syrup or napkins on the side ... $15
Disappointed terrible. BBQ chicken was fried dried chicken with Hunts BBQ sauce.. Watered down Mac and cheese from a box and canned greens. They call the a BBQ restaurant? Not at all.
Freddy Js is such a great spot for a quick bite. It has a fun, local, community feel and the red velvet waffles are amazing. 10/10 Recommend! 😁

One of my most memorable dining experiences. The fish fry was outstanding, and Fred made my kids and I feel like part of the family.
First of all this place should be take out only it is WAAAAY to small. The girls working barley had any room to move in the kitchen. Keep in mind there was only two of them. Secondly the waffles are not red velvet they’re red food coloring normal bisquick mix nothing special. Thirdly my bf and I wanted in the over small place for over an hour before we got our food at that point we just got it to go. Numerous customers left either bc the wait was ridiculously long or they pre ordered food 40-60 mins before coming to pick it up and it still wasn’t ready. Should expand because the space a line is enough to not even get out of your car with expanding comes more help so orders won’t be so behind. More than likely won’t be going back for seconds
First time trying the chicken and waffles with eggs ! It is very good and has lots of flavor, the right amount 👌 ,especially the waffles, I love waffles!. For the price, I was hoping that it was and it was 😁.
I ordered Fish and Grits, and the grits werelumpy and gross. The meal was not worth $13 at all! I would not recommend, nor would I eat there again!!!

First time visitor I had the red velvet waffles and fried chicken and I also got the jerk chicken wings with mac & cheese and collard greens and food was excellent and Freddy was even better...Great guy to talk to and great environment as well even though its small its very homey and relaxing inside where u can even enjoy a beer or 2 with your meal if thats what u prefer but overall I give it two thumbs up and recommend you check this place out wherever u live in town.....I know Ill be back!!!!!
Ribs were good. Didnt go during normal operation. Ate there as part of the Taste of Diversity Festival. Would defintely give the restaurant a try for dinner some day.

Gristle filled, tough, under-cooked ribs bathed in the kind of barbecue sauce youd expect to find in a correctional institution or underfunded inner city school... Dont waste your time or money.

2022-08-21Very enjoyable time here. It was my girlfriends first experience with soul food and we couldnt have found a better spot. The red velvet waffles were so tasty as were the greens.Loved the music and talking to Freddy. Highly recommended. They accept credit cards too.

2022-04-15This was absolutely disgusting. The grits were hard shards of dried out grits. Inedible and dry. The Mac and cheese was a congealed mess. Ice cold. The fried chicken for 6.99 is a cold chicken tender. No bone. Not fried. The waffles a sad soggy mess.Do yourself a favor and go to kfc instead for chicken. Or anywhere else for that matter. Gross.

2022-06-30They say “you do need to go to fancy places to find test.” Freddy J’s is perfect example of that. I loved the test of Chicken Sandwich with salad. The sauce was awesome. I am leaving this review literally at the end of my meal. So sorry for messy photo.

2022-02-12For $22 the waffles could’ve been bigger. Not saying the food wasn’t good but they should give a bigger portion for what you pay and my eggs were cooked hard. My first time eating here kind of disappointed.

2021-05-06First time ordering from them. The food was really great. I arrived about half hour after it said itd be ready and it wasnt, but within 5 minutes of arriving it was ready. The only thing was the waffles were a bit soggy, but honestly otherwise all their food was great. Ill definitely order from here again (I wish they had delivery a bit further than what grubhub offers).

2019-12-14Firstly, Freddy was the friendly and engaging restaurant owner Ive ever encountered! Now on to the food, which was delicious by the way!I had the famous Chicken and Red velvet waffles ($10.99) and they certainly did not disappoint. Flavorful and yummy. Also tried the grits which were really good and topped it all off with a mimosa.The place isnt very big inside (only space for about 7 or 8), but they have a larger space for bigger events. I always like a dining exoewhere you can watch the chef at work and this spot fits that bill too.

2017-04-24Freddy Js, a bijou gem on Buffalos West side with good eats, friendly service, and great prices! I love good food and I love being able to support a locally owned and operated business in Buffalo. My husband and I visited for the first time last weekend. Our food was prepared right in front of us with a great deal of joy, love, and laughter. My Southern Fried Chicken and Red Velvet Waffles were phenomenal. The waffles were so light and fluffy and the chicken was fantastic (tender, boneless, skinless chicken breast). I think I found my new breakfast hangout. Then again, Ill be back for dinner to pick up a Fish Fry with Mac & Cheese & Greens.
