The lady working behind the bar there was very rude & nasty. They had 1 person taking orders and he was cooking the food too. They really need someone to help him. He tried his best but it took 2 hours to get me food. Also, they need more lighting in there. Its just too Dark that you cant even read the menu.
Its just a great bar in almost every way. The drinks are strong, the food is good, and theyre both cheap. Theres free live music every night in the backroom (a performance space that doubles as an art gallery). Theres a backyard. The owners & staff are cool as hell, and they discourage people from bringing kids. What more could you want?
The COVID protocols were strong & I felt safeIt was just great to be around people again. The bar had a decent selection & some affordable choices. Very close to the train. A good rock n roll bar. The Little ve Room was its own area & with itsown atmosphere as was the back porch. Ill be back!
My home away (or only a couple of blocks away) from home. Best bar in the neighborhood and my personal favorite in the city. Most of the bartenders are awesome, has a real NY bar feel to it, a cast of regulars and an amazing history (ask about the chain around the bar). Food is good, with a full menu, wish they would have at least some healthy-ish options but its a bar, after all. Pre-Covid the backroom is always lit with great live music, stand-up comedy and just about anything you can imagine (hope that gets back to normal soon). Ill leave it at that, you have to have the Freddys experience to fully grasp it. Once youre in there, take in the details. Stop reading this, go have a cold one.
Nice vibe. Friendly and responsive staff who made great recommendations. The drinks and food were solid, especially the fries. The backroom is a nice touch if youre in the mood for live music. My quartet scheduled a performance there, and they were super accommodating. So we all stuck around for a few more hours. It worked out for everybody!
Friendly neighborhood spot with strong drinks and a great lineup of live music. Normally, I dont rave about tater tots, but I gotta say -- these are worthy of mention! Perfectly seasoned. Perfectly fried. Get sauce on the side; theyre too pretty to drown. Tots aside, they have an unexpected, thoughtful and delicious menu so get your grub on. Live like a local here.
Dim lit. Friendly bartender. $20 minimum for credit cards. Lots of antique decorations. Has a piano (a talented customer hopped on and played some tunes, unexpected but enjoyable) and 2 television. Looks to have a patio but at the moment looks to be closed. Has a kitchen and a backroom away from the bar. Its a comfortable place with affordable prices.
Like the atmosphere. As well as the look of the bar. Eclectic but also fun. They have a main bar area and a small backroom where they do comedy shows as well screen the games, like the superbowl for the people who want to watch. They also have a small kitchen with a variety of food. The kitchen closes at 2am. Definitely a bar to go try.
Great atmosphere. The music is at the perfect level, nice decor, great drinks. Great staff!!!I brought a date with me and at some point a guy was creeping a little close to her. Before I could even say anything to the creep the bartender kicked him right out. I will absolutely be coming back.
Cool place to hang out and very different bar atmosphere then the other bars in the neighborhood. They do a lot of shows, comedy, music etc so you have to check in advance as it can be packed or semi packed. The bar has two sides to hang out in.Food menu is good and they have a cool outdoor garden area.
I echo the previous reviews that highlight what makes Freddy’s so unique and wonderful- it’s such a gem! When I first moved into the neighborhood, it immediately became apparent that Freddy’s was a place where I could have fun and feel comfortable and safe, even as a newbie. The bartenders (and all the staff) are on point, attentive and good natured, creating a welcoming vibe that is felt when you first walk up to the bar. The music is awesome and the decor is super funky and cool. I’m so glad to have them near!!
Loved This Place. Had been hearing about, this spot. Finally went for the Birthday Party of regularly featured band player: Fred. Was overwhelmed by the jam session, dancing & loved shown to me as a newbie from the regulars. They greeted me warmly & even bought me, a drink... Warm Environment. Cant wait, to return.
While I have heard it said that this is one of the best dive bars in Brooklyn, and I wouldnt disagree, I think that is selling it short. There are always great acts and events going on in the back room, there is a small patio in the backyard, and there is legitimate video art playing at the bar! Relaxed day drinking or dance party at night, Freddys is great!
The most diverse bar I’ve ever been to. You got older folk, younger folk, dating couples, drunk frat boys, cowboys, hipsters, yuppies, LBGTQ, socially awkward people, over-the-top extroverted people, tourists, and local celebrities. The decor is amazing and they have live music (sometimes). Everywhere you look there is some odd anomaly. Which is really entertaining to look at. It’s a struggle for those with ADHD - I have to admit.Prices are great for booze; haven’t tried the food. Recommended for literally any occasion by yourself or with a friend or two. Wish I took some pics but maybe next time.
Come for the music which I’d give 5 stars to. It’s a decent bar at 3.5-4 stars. But the rating is 2 stars for the food which is basically high school cafeteria grade. I’d give this place 3.5 stars and although I rounded down, on a different day, I might’ve rounded up to 4 stars.
Great kitchy neighborhood bar. They have some board games if you want to relax with friends and drink. They always have something going on every night. If youd like to check out local music and comedy, this place has it. All day happy hour, I dont know why all bars have this, from 12 pm to 7 pm. And so you dont get too wasted during the day, take advantage of the $5 beer and hot dog special. Solid bar food all around. Very popular among locals.
Freddys is my favorite bar in Brooklyn! Amazing vibe and decor! Great happy hour and bar food with full kitchen. Open patio in the summer, frequent events from films to bands, etc. Incredible art and video collage on display. And the bartenders always have a great playlist. The best!
Went to Freddys and I was able to get 2 IPAS, burger and tots for $22.The bar was dim and interesting. It was nice to spend time in a bar that had limited gimmicks and a great throw back atmosphere. Hell yeah I will be returning. Well done, old school will always be better...
Low key lit ambience with edgy decor, including trippy/bizarro video playing on some screens. Went on a weekday and it was the perfect place to relax and converse with friends. Bartender was very friendly and the drinks got the job done 😉 not sure how it is on a weekend night but Im going to be coming back to find out. Recommended
Technically this is a local dive but I feel like I appreciate it more as a diner/venue because every time I go, I end up eating taters tots in a booth or watching comedy in the back (with a drink of course). This is a great place to go with friends if you need a chill spot for a drink and tasty food.
Yeah yeah yeah Freddys is awesome.. If youre s hípster you can earn your cool kid cred here and get validated by authentic Brooklyn hipsters. Its a very exclusive club. All jokes aside Freddys is a very cool bar. I once met the devil in their old location. True story bro...
This is the oldest bar in Brooklyn. It moved here not too long ago. Its got neat nicknacks all over (including a screen that shows a cat lapping up milk on loop--pretty awesome) that give it a comfortable, welcoming feel. The beer selection is good. Theres a back, room for music, but I havent been back there, yet.
I had an amazing experience in this bar the drinks were surprisingly great and the food was DELICIOUS! enjoyed their buffalo wings and tots Great staff from the bartenders to the guy in the kitchen he was very helpful & professional I think he told me his name was Gustav (not sure) But I definitely highly recommend this place !!!!
Legendary. A cheap bar in the South Slope that treats its customers to exactly what they need. Brilliantly, the live music is in a completely separate room so you can hang out at the bar without being drowned out by bands. And Freddys always amazing/brain boggling VHS video art is continually playing on at least one screen. Run, dont walk.
We came here on a Saturday around six in the evening. It was a good crowd, and the bartender gave us prompt service and attention. The happy hour was cheap. I didnt pay, but I think the the drinks were around $4 or $5 bucks for happy hour. They have crazy movies playing in the background, and a loop of a cat drinking water. It will trip you out. The bartender told us the name of the cat. The thirst is real. The bathroom was clean, which is a big deal in my book.I didnt eat anything, but they have a full kitchen, if youre up for some pub fare.In the back, they have a cute littel room where you can watch movies or listen to live music. There was a guy playing the guitar and singing the night we went. One of the owners stopped by and was very hands on with the staff, not afraid to go behind the bar and make sure everything is up to par. He even gave them a refresher on stacking the pint classes with ice. When he was done, my friend asked him about it, and he explained the purpose was not only science but also aesthetics. He was really nice and down to earth.
Decide to meet up with a few friends I hadnt seen in awhile and googled bars in park slope. Freddys bar came up and it had great reviews so I decided we should try it. Upon entering I noticed that its very dark. I know its a bar and usually there is dim lighting but this was a little too dark for me . What I did like was that the music was not loud so i was able to talk with my friends without shouting. Anyways, they have a good happy hour on drinks. $4 beers and house liquor, no specials on foods though. Drinks were made good, you can actually taste the liquor. The Food was a big let down. We first ate chips with guacamole and salsa. Guacamole was ok, chips were delicious and had good seasoning on it, the salsa was nasty. It looked like vodka sauce and was spicy. They would just be better serving tostitos salsa. For the entree I ordered the magic mike which is shrimp, provolone cheese, red onions, avocado on ciabatta bread with a side salad. The bread seemed stale and the shrimp was bland. My friend had chicken tenders and fries. That wasnt bad, the fries were very good. My other friend had a shrimp quesadilla, I didnt try it but he didnt complain about. Because I was disappointed by the food I probably wouldnt go there again.
Freddys is one of the greatest venues to hold an event! The staff is always super friendly and accommodating, and willing to help you with anything you need. The chill atmosphere, and awesome food and drinks all in one place just really make it one of the best spots.
AMAZING BAR AND SERVICE!!!! Bartenders were very warm and friendly, atmosphere was relaxed, and the tv screens played trippy videos which I thought was awesome. Drinks were cheap, and good, they have some signature cocktails. I tried the Grumpy Old man and 007, which were good and strong. Food was above standard for bar grub. Had a cheeseburger with tots, burger was juicy and tots were crunchy, not those soggy tots you get everywhere else, the chipotle mayo the cook recommended for the tots was delicious! Thanks!
Freddys is definitely my kind of bar. Killer decor (random knick knacks, garden gnomes, memorabilia, wooden bar and booths) paired with a huge beer selection, full bar and quite possibly the best tots ever. Freddys Tots come highly-recommended by the food counter in the back and with gravy, cheese, bacon and god knows what else, they are the sidekick to the wheat beers on tap. Friendly bartender, friendly food counter and nice, mixed clientele.
Inexpensive drinks (PBR and a well shot combo deal for ~7), very friendly bartender (who was completely understanding when I spilled half my beer on the floor due to wild arm gesticulations), yummy food (tots, tacos, salads), and live music. All accompanied by a dive-bar vibe. Add in the roaming dog that was sniffing around for snacks, and youve got a great place for a quick drink or a night of rowdy ruckus. Would happily go back next time Im in NYC.
My Friend and I had been to this bar previously on Saturdays or a sunday, bartender was great, and the food was pretty good we never had any problem there, I would have given it a better rating but after the way we were treated on 9/11 Monday afternoon we will never go back there again we had a totally different female bartender she was rude and nasty cancelled our food order and told me should would not serve my friend granted we had been there for only s short time only had one drink each and were seating out in the in the back, i was taken aback on how she wanted her tip after she only served us one drink, we usually would have tipped her once we were done and were leaving , i would suggest to others not to go there is this how you treat the NYPD. You should be ashamed of yourself!!!!
3$ beers on tap noon - 7pm. Yes. Let that soak in. From pale ales local and across the country, hefeweizen, lager, guinness and more you can find them here for less than you pay for your morning coffee. * (see footnote)A dive bar in its most true and most beautiful form, no pretentiousness, no bs, just come in with (our without) your friends and wash away your typical 12 hour NYC work day. Also, for you carnivores out there get a point and Nathans hot dog for 5$. yowza.* I know what youre thinking, and Im with you friend... skip the coffee and get your morning drank on like a bawse.

2021-08-15Fact: if you dont like Freddys you have bad taste.Fact: Bob Dylan once didnt play there.Good bar just to hangout and socialize. Amazing intimate performance space - not pretentious, no hipster avant vibes, just regular place for a variety of styles of music where you can really feel the music and the performers energy. Usually a diverse range of performances throughout the week. Probably my favorite venue space in Brooklyn.

2022-02-11We were here on a Friday night because my husband was a guest soloist by the band that was having their Monkees commemoration performance night. Inside, I thought its nice. Its a good size bar with food choices. I had tater tots, some small empanada like food items plus dark beer. Good service. It wasnt that bust but there was a big crowd inside their separate performance space.

2022-07-04Classic spot! They did an amazing job relocating it and it still has a great mix of local neighborhood types with an artsy crowd as well. Some very friendly bartenders as well. Definitely worth a visit.

2021-11-19Edit: Amends were made! So full marks!I’m about to give a completely unfair review of this bar.The food? Great. Good quantity. Good price. Weird payment/order system but it’s manageable. The burlesque shows they put on? Great. Cozy. It’s hard not to be close to the action. Here’s why I can’t in good conscious give this place a great rating: every time I order a Diet Coke, the guy gives it to me in the small glasses. Every time I go here. He gives my friends the large pint glasses of Diet Coke, but not me. Maybe it’s because they are hot babes and I’m a lumpy giant? Idk! I’ve taken to just having my friends order my drinks for me. 💔
