Loved this place! Came here for a friends birthday and the ambience is great as well as the amount of space! My friend had an upper section blocked out for the party which was a nice place to gather for our group. The drinks and food were also pretty good - Id consider it elevated standard bar fare. All in all, will definitely make it back here at some point.
Great coffee, great vibes, super friendly baristas (who gave me a cold brew on the house!). For those of you looking for somewhere to work - there are a few plug sockets and free wi-fi. There seems to be an event space connected next doors (which is occasionally a bar - the music overflows into the cafe quite a bit).
Their pizzas are AMAZING! But other than that, no matter how many times I asked the bartender to make a drink a specific way, they never did. The drinks were WAY too strong for me and my friends and should not be strong for what we ordered. The vibe was very chill, mellow. The outdoor area is nice when the weather is nice.
Great experience, I went during the night time. Very relaxing music, played by an in house DJ. The bartenders are social and attentive to your order. You dont feel pressured to order and they are helpful in offering suggestions to help you choose. The food menu is fairly priced and vegan options are available per request if the menu doesnt suite your taste.
Came here for cocktail drinks for a friends birthday party.Bartenders were super nice and not pretentious. The crowd was also equally as humble. Thoroughly enjoyed it! Half off the menu until 9pm on the night I went made my bill 42 for about 5 drinks!Lots of open space, even a game room in the back.
Been here before and loved the brunch and outdoor seating. Then I came back and they changed the menu (very few options) and the service was terrible. We were seated in a corner and had a very hard time ordering drinks and food in a timely manner. I ordered the breakfast tacos assuming they had scrambled eggs because thats what the menu said and when I got them the egg was this weird fake squared egg that was very unappetizing. The other people I was with liked their burger and waffles but with a limited menu and bad service, Im not sure I will ever come back. I found the experience very dissatisfying.
Nice location and good food! We went with some friends and it was not crowded at all. The service was pretty quick and the food was tasty. I got the mushroom and rice entree - it was very healthy and delicious (I liked how it wasn’t super salty and tasted natural). There are different areas inside (working /cafe space, restaurant /dining space, game room with arcade games, outside area + bar). Overall had a pleasant time here! Surprisingly it was also NOT too noisy. If you want to play games - it’s cash only FYI. Would recommend!
Our party was a blast! Couldn’t have asked for more. The staff were friendly, accommodating, and went above and beyond for our group. If anyone is thinking of having a birthday party or any event at Freehold, you absolutely won’t regret it! Thank you all for making our party so special!
5 for atmosphere! Great red brick square space with bar, sky as a rooftop & even tree inside. Good coffee spot to start inside also. I tried only chai latte - too sweet for me + it was not hot, just unpleasantly warm, didnt really like it and will not repeat. But my friend fell in love with Marchadamia (matcha tea with macadamia nut milk). So cannot be objective about the menu. But coming back to atmosphere - there is even corner with artificial grass and pillows under the tree so you can lie down or sit right on the ground. Exactly what we did. Resume - really nice place to comfortably stay with your laptop or for warm talking with friend.
This is a wonderful place for a nice evening drink. They host some events, and they are always super quick and nice! The outside area is very spacious. The variety in spaces to hang out allows for lots of options for different groups of people trying to mingle or have a more intimate moment.
This is the worst place ever. It looked nice so we decided to sit and eat rather than walking to the restaurant we were originally going to. We waited forever (at least an hour) to receive two cold pizzas and our fries were missing. We signaled the host who then saw and ignored us. So we had to go up there to ask for the pizza to be re-heated. The manager was nice and offered to reheat and reimburse us. We did that. But I got back slightly warm pizza and when I went to eat there was a long piece of hair on it! We left and will never come back.
One of my most favorite venues in Brooklyn. Its great as a co-working spot during the day, delicious coffee, food, amazing outdoor space / concert venue at night. I saw Maggie Rogers DJ there in 2019 and it was awesome. I love, love this place! Very excited that they opened a location in Manhattan
Went for the club and this place got creeps on top of creeps everywhere. Went with a group of 8 luckily 3/8 were guys or else I don’t know what would’ve happened. One guy kept coming back he seemed to be by himself the second our guy friends walked away he kept coming back & I seen no bouncer or even workers in sight. Got harassed multiple times no one was there to help & the music was trash. They played Ariana grande and Britney Spears endlessly, would not recommend if you’re chicks & looking for a safe & fun time.
Great (co-) working spot. They have both a large indoor space with tables and bar seating, and plenty of outdoors including a second floor.Staff are on it. Menu includes a large variety of food and drinks, non-alcoholic and alcoholic.Mostly: a pleasant place to either work or chill with friends.
As a person who never really sets foot in Brooklyn, I had to attend a meeting here and let me just say, I thought I was in a whole other world. The atmosphere is relaxing and beautiful. The staff is super friendly and the drinks are made just perfect and elegantly. It caught me off guard because when you first walk in, it looks like an ordinary coffee shop only cuter and more chill. Once you go further in, it expands into this wonderfully chill vibe gastropub. The seating, the lighting, the drinks, its all wonderful. I loved it and I definitely plan to come back.
I was just at this bar this past evening. I went to the bathroom, which is across the dance floor, so I tried to dance my way to the bathroom. Someone who worked there - a man with longer hair- held me down and grabbed me. Told me I was going too fast. I apologized and said I was just trying to go to the bathroom and asked him to stop holding me down, he refused. He finally let me go so I could go to the bathroom. I broke down crying after. I left after with my partner and told him on the way out he shouldn’t touch women who ask them to not be touched and he held me down again. If I wasn’t on my way out I would have called the police.
During these socially distanced times with limited options, Freeholds outdoor seating in their courtyard is an awesome experience, and the thin crust pizza is great. They offer some standard pizza types, but also some more creative options as well. Good ambiance and a great mix with the crowd as well.
This could be due to the pandemic but the service was horrible. I can understand we are seating ourselves and using a QR code to order our food, but you are unable to modify any foods, the drinks were horribly made. The food took way too long to come out. And they forgot something from every person in my group’s order. Someone was missing the avocado, a drink came like a half out later, my pizza came an hour later. The food was good, but the service was horrible. They were extremely understaffed. Their was only two people bringing the food and drinks out. And those two people were barely out on the floor providing assistance. Every time they came back to my table I received a “so sorry” which is unacceptable because it should have came as one. The menu was very limited. Overall the place is beautiful and the food was good. Hopefully after the pandemic things change and they provide better service and open up their menu.
Went here in the summer with a friend for brunch. Very spacious, trendy establishment. Great vibes, and tasty food. Service was great, our server was able to provide recommendations and was entertaining. It was lively around the time I was there but I hear that the scene gets better as the day goes on. They accept card/cash for payment and have indoor/ outdoor seating options (at least in the summer). Id go here again for sure.
Started off mediocre; went here to celebrate a friends birthday party. Paid over $1000 in bottle service, but got kicked out because the host/birthday girl was falling asleep. One of the bouncers was extremely disrespectful and couldnt even give a reason for kicking her out. When someone in our party responded with the same energy, she said we werent allowed back in because we were being too aggressive. Makes no sense. She was clearly on a power trip. The server was extremely fun and cool. The first bouncer at the door was also very helpful. The manager and coat check staff were also helpful. ONLY THAT ONE WOMAN checking IDs at the front had absolutely no etiquette. Even if we were being disrespectful, she has an obligation to be dignified and respectful, but clearly she did not have those qualifications. It took over an hour just to receive an explanation from the staff for their behavior, and only one staff member apologized for the staffs (womans) disrespect. A refund/partial refund would have been very appreciated.I DO NOT RECOMMEND for large parties and/or overly fun nights because the staff may not respond positively.
The drinks were great and had a surprisingly good beer selection (dont see Alchemist in the city that often!). Pizza was decent but we were really there for the drinks and great outdoor space. Im sure its just a COVID thing but the QR code ordering is pretty annoying and we were surprised to see a 10% covid surcharge on each order. Not sure if any of that goes to the staff but it makes tipping awkward and Id rather it just be baked into their prices.
Came here on a Sunday for brunch. Menu was a bit limited, I had the Impossible burger and it was pretty good though. We were a group of 6 people and aside from the dishes we had we ordered the pancake to share BC it looked delicious when it came out for the table next to us. But... big mistake... none of us could even swallow one bite of us. The consistency was really gummy, as if youre chewing glue. It just tasted like tasteless dough. We sent it back to the waiter and the waiter was nice to not charge us for it.Other than that the vibe was nice with the jazz band playing. Bloody Marys were good as well.
Great neighborhood spot with a lot to offer. There are several conveniently attached business: coffee shop, restaurant, bar, and patio bar. Their happy hours are great, and keep me coming back for kore. Trivia nights are an spectacle. Beware, during the weekends this quiet neighborhood gathering spot turns into a full blow day club with lines, doorman, guest list, encouraged bottle service, and all.
Dont come to this place on a Saturday night!!!They have a power tripping bouncer who stands outside and makes you wait to get in even if the bar is completely empty. I legitimately thought it would be packed based on how long I had to wait and the place was dead on a Saturday at 10pm. Even with no one at the bar it took forever to get a drink and pieces of the bar seem to be falling apart.Never again!
I’m absolutely obsessed with this place. Although all the times I’ve come here, I mostly only ever get drinks. The atmosphere, the staff, the overall look of the restaurant and even the system to order food is so great and genius. This is a perfect spot to relax, catch up with friends.I must try the pizza next time I come here.
Versatile spot that does it all. During the day it’s a solid brunch spot inside and out. On the weekends they sometimes have live music inside. And connected to the space is a dedicated coffee shop, great for working, waiting or chatting. At night, the bar/club scene takes over after dinner. Worth sticking around for late night DJ’s and dancing.
Really awesome vibe for a Brooklyn bar! Decently packed but still able to move through. Pop/rap hits playing and plenty of dancing (including on the tables and couches!). Bathrooms are clean and there really isnt a wait time. Drinks are VERY OVERPRICED ($12 for a white claw can...). Hosts were awesome and really put you in the party mood!
Visited this spot and was very dissatisfied with what I ordered. The staff was really nice and the service was ok but the food was not the best. I ordered the breakfast tacos and the menu said the eggs were scrambled but when it came to the table it was these weird squared eggs that were gross! I then ordered the chicken fingers and they were not seasoned. Also gross! I ate it because I was hungry and due to the limited menu there were not many options to choose from. The best thing I ate was the truffle fries. If you want a great brunch experience, do not come to this place. Ambiance is great, staff friendly but I am leaving hungry. The waitress is very nice and this is not a reflection of her service. While I was there, the manager came over and wanted to know if we had already left a review because someone else reviewed that the eggs in this taco was gross, wasn’t me. She was very nice and said change is coming as they are in the process of switching chef’s. She gave me a free drink! That is great but reality is that I am spending money and leaving hungry TODAY!
Good food, cool ambiance, host was nice and i loved their use of paper straws. However, gave 3 stars for the barely there server, Samantha (who showed minimal interest in serving us ), and the fact that our 2 burgers and fries took about 45 minutes (it wasnt even busy until after we ordered) Also found it unusual we were asked to give a credit card before we placed our food order to start a tab when we werent having alcohol or sitting at bar....
Pretty cool spot with an interesting vibe. Itd pretty big, has a dance floor, múltiple bars and even a cafe thats attached to it if youd rather get your buzz on via an espresso haha. The outdoor enclosed space is really nice to get away from screaming conversation in the main room, and theres also a smoking area. Not a fan of the location because its not super close to any stations. It also gets a little hot and sweaty inside. Great for big groups.
I don’t often make my way to Brooklyn was over here for a company Holiday party...what an awesome spot! Not a lot of fuss on the outside but very big on the inside. Large space for hanging and a great room for private parties (complete with arcade games and skee ball)
No covers in any visit Ive made, ever, clean, good music, well maintained, indoor lounging area and bottle service, and an additional outdoor yard. Brings in friendly people every night.Truly one of the most balanced, crisp, no fuss nightlife experiences I have had consistently for the past three years.
Good coffee. Huge place. Went there Friday around lunch time to take care of some work. Then again on Saturday. The atmosphere was like night and day from Friday to Saturday. People and music starting in the afternoon on Saturday. We ended up moving from the cafe side to the other side for a beer. It was great!
Swanky little atmosphere!!! LOVED the LARGE outdoor patio area!! Drinks are a bit pricey for my taste... A glass of red wine is $14...so I had a $12 small glass martini instead. Happy Hour ONLY included beers the night that I visited. But pricey drink list aside, the atmosphere is absolutely beautiful!!! At times I forgot I was in Brooklyn and thought I was in the City. The staff was extremely attentive and very helpful!!! This is an ideal spot for summer!!!
Passed by to grab a drink and was pleasantly surprised by the whole experience. Mike the bartender made all the drinks on point, and entire staff was very friendly. They have an outside section with another bar and live music sometimes, which added to the experience. All in all place was great, Id definitely go back for sure
Ive been to the Freehold in Brooklyn 3 times, the first 2 were a really pleasant experience, good service, hip vibes, and relaxed atmosphere,However, my 3rd visit was on Thanksgiving, I made a reservation online, and came with a date, imagine my immense embarrassment when I came there and it was CLOSED!!!!!! I called the number on the website but it went straight to an automated message system, so there I was, completely left with nothing to do on that special night, thank G-D for the picnic tables on the road and the decent weather, so we sat there and had a good time, another date also came and was disappointed to fine it closed, because both of us had made reservations online, and the website didnt say it was closed, so back to the matter at hand, Im not so sure if I would recommend this place to anyone, maybe if they show some more professionalism, but otherwise it coukd cause some unwanted and unwarranted disappointment.
Real chill, hip, clean place. I was the least hip. As a matter of fact, Im pretty sure the cool meter dropped by a point or two upon me entering. But its OK. I was buying drinks, so therefore Im a valued patron. I was back home in New York visiting some family, and my hip cousin who DOES belong in cool establishments like Freehold brought me here. Im glad he did. Its nice to see what being part of the cool crowd feels like. They have a spacious interior with a large patio as well. I was there on a Sunday afternoon, and it became slowly more and more packed. I had to head to the airport before hit full capacity, but it definitely felt like it was primed to pop. So if youre looking for a chill, moderately priced night out with drinks, check out Freehold. Not a bad spot.
No waiters, must order food through app. You have to get your own water. After you finish eating or get another round of drinks, no one will bus your table, so you just have to sit there and stare at burnt pizza crusts and crumbs as you continue socializing. You’re still asked to tip 18% though, and pay an extra 10% “covid”surcharge — even though they are doing less work because of covid, not more. Food is mediocre.
Hipster, chill, Sunday funday, brunch, drinks, type of environment. We came here for a chill time on a Sunday right after brunch. If we knew this placed brunched as hard as we seen we would’ve totally brunched here instead! Since our stomachs were full we decided to take advantage of their brunch cocktails. They were all only $6!As soon as I seen SPRITZ on the menu, I knew it was mine! Absolutely loved this drink but I definitely did prefer their gingery, minty, lemony “it’s called soccer” instead. Again, for $6 why not have two for the price of one, right?Ordered some yummy truffle fries, played some ping pong, people watched, spoke with our friends. This was definitely the chill spot to go to where you can just relax on the couch, table, chairs, bar, outside area, you name it. This place is everything, even a hotel!Bottom line, come brunch, come drink or do both! You won’t be disappointed!
Like a Frank Pepe style but better- more finesse, better ingredients. Delivery was speedy but even if it had been slow this style of pizza holds up better than the true Napolitano style, which should be consumed on premises. Had the ricotta lemon pie delivered and I’ll spend the rest of the day slowly devouring it while I take in a little TV. Balance of flavors and crisp thin crust are perfection. Also they have the most cut rate prices on liters of booze during the covid pandemic, they’ll send you 1L of Basil Hayden for $40. Thanks
I love this place! To the extent i’m writing my first review. Staff is awesome every single time, I work here often and stay for happy hour or such. But: while brunch used to be my favorite spot because the options were amazing - the new minimal menu is just so sad. I keep hoping to be surprised with the pork shoulder coming back, or French toast, or fried chicken and waffle or the yogurt parfait !!! Please bring it back so I can give you a 5
Had an absolutely tremendous experience here. Went on a friday evening around 7:30-8pm, it was a decent sized crowd and they have a patio that gets pretty lively around that time. Some friends and I came for dinner and drinks and it was out of this world! Their cheeseburger is one of the best Ive had all year. So flavorful and tasty. Grab yourself a manhattan or a french martini and let the Freehold vibes take you away! Their brownie sundae is terrific also so bring your sweet tooth for dessert. You can always bust a move on the dance floor because their weekend Djs know how to get the party started. The decor inside is very trendy but also minimalistic in a good way. Our server Camila was pleasant and cheerful and the overall staff gave us more than enough positive energy for our group. I definitely recommend this place if you want to have a special night out either with friends, on a date, or just yourself having a drink at the bar. Have fun!
I like the vibe of this local Cafe, restaurant and bar. Very spacious. During the day one can order tea and work on the laptop then head over to the other room for lunch. The outside patio is huge with plenty of tables. They have a small area behind the restaurant for a few arcade games. The evening/night vibe here is cool too, seems like its a dance bar.Staff were friendly and helpful.
Real fun bar and grill. During the summer this place is hard to beat as the atmosphere is fun as people are getting loose. The bartenders here are also easy going and hustlin despite the amount of people that are hoarding the bar.Be wary that this place does get incredibly packed, but once your in you will have a blast with the live DJ and fun drinking games you can play in the outside section of this place.
The staffs rudeness was a little over the top (a couple of times my boyfriend and I could only look at each other and laugh, and actually bonded with the next table over it).It is a shame because the space is super cool (both the indoor and outdoor spaces). I would not come back here personally, but if you dont mind people shouting at you not to sit in sections, slamming cheques on tables, grabbing arrangements off your table mid-meal, and approaching the table what do you want then you might not mind it - for us though, we felt it just created a pretty unpleasant experience.
EDIT 2020: Extremely restrictive re: their rules. Though my group spent $400+ on drinks, Freehold staff later prohibited members of my group from using the bathroom, though they recognized those same members. Such a policy seems needless and punitive --- in short, Id go to Freehold with very strict plans but Id be sure not to bend them for fear of being screamed at.Really awesome spot to work and relax. Super laidback. I find it easy to get into the zone here and focus. As one criticism, sometimes the music can be a little overbearing, but they do also double as a club at night...
Fluid Snow flake College kids. Predominantly a sausage-fest, with a sprinkle of the high-end riverside residents. Music is hip-hop/pop and the likes. Typical height of the fine ladies is about 5.2.Food is good. Gin tonics of plenty. Nice outdoor area; but I dont think you can smoke.2 stars is for the oddball rowdy side-show crowd. Great place if you fit in.
Love this place! I usually go during the week sometimes weekends. I love how I could go for fun or work. Whether Im behind a computer or with friends the bartenders and very attentive and outgoing.Allie, Hunter, Mike, and Tony are my favorite! It gets really busy during the weekend wish I couldve kept this hidden gem to myself, but hey its just THAT awesome! I have no doubt that whenever I go Ill still get the same serviceThey also have daily specials during the week. Comedy on Mondays, $5 wine and $1 oysters on Tues, DJ on Friday. All around fun! 💃🏽
Freehold is a multi-use space. The coffee shop is to the right, and the bar is located up the stairs, on the left. The staff are really friendly and the space is clean. It gets too crowded and thats when patrons start to spill drinks on you. Very young college crowd on the weekends and in general a young under 30 crowd.
Roaming Brooklyn I found FREEHOLD and was super impressed not only by the service but the food was AMAZING!!! All of the ingredients are in house and super fresh. We tried the hotties and they were sooo good.... Outside dough was crispy, and the inside was soft and gooey and sooo tastey! I cant wait to try more of their menu next time!!! Definitely come and try this place its awesome..... They had outside seating in front and in the back courtyard.
Nice place but 45 - 60 min wait on the line was not worth it. But honestly what place is? I had a wrap party here back in the day and the company rented the whole place, which was cool. But on a Friday night, get ready to wait on line to get in, for a drink , and the bathroom.
Love the atmosphere of freehold which is so diverse and changes dramatically from what day you are there and what time. $5 wine Tuesdays, big crowds and dance floor Friday and Saturday nights and low key brunch Saturday or Sunday. Great frozen cocktails for those outdoor hangouts on a Saturday of Saturday afternoon in the sunny courtyard, where the crowd starts to build.
Bar got really crowded after 10pm. This was just not for me. The music was clubby and getting s drink was difficult. What I did like was the outside area. Lit with string lights this outside area had fake grassy ground to sit on and a bunch of picnic tables. They had an upstairs which had pinball machines and heat lamps with some tables and couches. This was not too crowded yet so I could deal with it. When you walk up the stairs back inside you had a beautiful view of the Brooklyn Bridge. So thats nice too. Cocktails wets not consistent but they did the trick.
Another mommy friend and I + our 2 babies in strollers enjoyed a Fri happy hour there with a group of friends. Super friendly staff that accommodated us from the moment we got there! Half off the entire bar Mon-Fri til 7pm is awesome and food menu delicious, especially the mussels.
Waitress. ?!Super rude. She got an attitude problem if that’s how she serves customers idk how they still have customers.Pizzas were burnt. She did not even change the pizza when we asked. She brought flamingo drink? What a joke. Drink was watered down and supposedly they were out of flamingos. When we told her that was the whole point she gave us huge attitude and said I’m not taking this back
Came here when everything else in Williamsburg was overpacked for Sunday brunch, predictably. There was plenty of seating here, but now I know why - service incredibly incredddddibly slow. Took 10 minutes just to get sugar for the iced coffee that took 20 minutes to get. Only one waitress for what was a decently crowded room.I ordered 2 eggs any style with potatoes and bacon - the eggs and potatoes came out cold, the bacon lukewarm, and the waitress ran away before I could ask for salt and pepper. Can’t say I’ll be returning here.
Ive been coming to Freehold frequently over the past 3 years and today I had the worst dining experience ive ever had anywhere. When we first arrived, our hostess tried to shove us in a table in a cramped dark corner where a large potted plant occupied the space where your head should be. When I asked if we could get a different table (there were many open), she was very confused and seemed unsure of how that would work, as if shed never encountered this question before. I had to ask her if there was another table available or if not, we can wait for another table (its her job to figure that out, not mine).Once seated at a different table, we were informed that the kitchen was a little backed up, which is perfectly understandable, so we ordered an appetizer to tide us over during the wait for our entrees. Our appetizer and entrees arrived at the same time, 45 minutes after ordering. Our waitress, CAMILA, never once checked up on us or even looked in our general direction. When we were ready to pay the bill, we waited 10 minutes without anyone checking in on us and decided to take matters into our own hands. We called over the hostess to ask for the check (she never did anything about it). 5 minutes later, we went up to the bar and asked the bartender if we can receive our check (he never did anything either). Finally, we called over our waitress, who had been absent from the dining area during this whole time, for our check. All in all, it took us about 20 minutes to receive our check after asking 3 employees at Freehold. After trying to flag her down for several minutes to give her our card, we gave up and walked over to the bar register to hand deliver it to her directly. This would be somewhat understandable if the place were packed in the middle of dinner rush, but is totally unacceptable when the place is only half full.Whoever does the hiring here needs to find more competent employees who spend less time socializing on the clock and more time doing their jobs, so customers dont have to do their jobs for them.I still think that this is a good place to grab drinks during a night out, but cannot recommend dining here to anyone, ever.
During the dayThis place is great during the day for getting work done, or just hanging out in a coffeeshop atmosphere. The drinks are solid and the vibe is great. At nightThis place goes straight clubby. Theres always loud music, big crowds, and tons of dancing. Good for single people on the prowl.
The freehold is a classic party spot, great for all occasions. Everything from the iconic blue freehold straw and the outdoor lawn and patio make for a great experience. Its unique and a super popular spot on weekends. The have theme parties and special events often so make sure to subscribe to the newsletter!
Awesome spot that is the combination of a coffee shop / bar / brunch spot / club /Christmas tree farm depending on what times of the day or year you go. The place is quite big but can get quite crowded, especially on weekends during the late morning and afternoons. Last time I went I was surrounded by groups chugging mimosas, people dancing all over, while there were several people at the bar or tables with noise cancelling headphones on trying to study or read. They have a good variety of beers available along with your common drinks at decent prices. Food menu is okay but I only go for the drinks and environment. Happy Hour is solid. Only a couple TVs - some of which only have a scene of a fireplace on them while one or two TVs might have a sporting event on. There is a small game room in the back with Buck Hunter and Skeeball.
I LOVE this place. When I visit my sister, who lives nearby, Ill work from here for the day and the experience could not be more amazing. They have two parts to the space, the older, super nice coffee shop, which serves great standards (tea, coffee, bagels, and cold brew are all delicious) and the new (opened as of last weekend) restaurant/bar area. The whole space is super beautiful and Ill probably head there to take some pictures when I go back there soon, but the food in the restaurant portion is delicious as well. I had the granola and yogurt with fresh fruit which is house made and so so tasty. I also had the broccoli cheddar quiche which was tasty AND filling! The service is also amazing, super friendly people behind the coffee and alcohol bars, and waiters who dont hover or bother you if you are there working like I was. There is a ton of space and ample outlets so there were a lot of people posted up there like I was, and it is truly an amazing place :D
Way overpriced for very disappointing food. Latte was cold, burger bun tasted like McDonald’s, asked for eggs over easy but they fried them beyond recognition, salad had no dressing and was clearly a handful of what would become ceviche later. Also guacamole negated any taste of the jam. Companion got breakfast tacos and they were just extremely over cooked scrambled eggs in a greasy taco shell. Boring, disappointing, and expensive. But hey, at least the space is cool.
If youre in your early 20s, its solid for late night. If youre older, save Freehold for summer day drinking. Check out the upstairs loft outside for Hygge coziness or art displays depending on the season. Also, the dont have miller or bud on tap which I thought was odd...
Food is not good. The lobster dish has 2 little peices of lobster on it. The chicken dish had barley any seasoning on it. Second time Ive been there in 10 years and both times disappointed. Thr place is busy so maybe its just me but my date didnt like it either. I wont waste my money in that place again.
This bar continues to break noise curfews and wakes up the entire neighborhood. They also are not lowering their music at night. We’ve been woken up all hours of the night, sometimes as late as 3am. Management refuses to do anything. Do not take your business here. They are not a good neighbor in the community.
Overall the bartenders and the waiters are friendly, BUT I had a very disappointing experience. I asked for an Impossible burger, which is on the menu (Im a vegetarian), and they brought me a normal, meat burger, without saying anything. After I noticed that it was real meat, I politely asked them what happened, they said theyll check in the kitchen, bringing a new burger (this time the right, vegetarian, Impossible one), and apologized, but what striked me was the attitude of the waiter, who, after I told him that thanks, but they should be more careful with that, because what if I had an allergy to a certain food and if they didnt pay attention to the order theyre serving, somebody could get really sick, and his answer was: Well, youre getting a free burger, so...! (Followed by an unfriendly, annoyed look.) Like, thanks, I could get sick, but at least its free! Theyre lucky I am not an activist vegan, and Im polite - I know a few people who would have made a scene there, especially with the waiters answer/ rude attitude.
Great place to work! Really ingenious layout with multiple discrete levels and spaces. Get a drink and a bite to eat when youve had enough of working in the cloud with the free wifi.Update: these guys have really figured out the formula. Coffee bar by day, boozy bar by night. Also, come to hang out, because you are welcome to sit around here all day long. Enjoy the remarkably coherent DJing / music selection, too. Theyve nailed a certain deep-grooved, classic sound. Also, try the many different spaces: outdoors, high deck, cocktail lounge, coffee bar, and more.
Debatably my favorite find of 2015 is Freehold just under the Willy B bridge — it’s big, there’s outdoor space and yard games, there’s big buck, there’s nightly drink specials, and a coffee shop that serves hydro cold brew. You feel at home here, it’s casual and comfortable – the drinks are good, and the food is even better. Even better than that, on Wednesday’s you’ll find yourself sipping $4.50 cocktails.I suggest the St. George. You fancy! Wait, WHAT? Yes, it’s true – no it’s not a dive bar, and yes they are good. They have a daily happy hour from 5 – 8 and other specials throughout the week.My thoughts on the food:The chicken fingers are light and crispy. The burger is solid, so are the fries. If you’re feeling extra special, go truffle fries. Don’t look back.Even the small side salad I had was fresh, and delightful.I’m not going to lie, I haven’t had anything else because I’ve ordered these same items multiple times but I have a hunch, everything is equally well done.Don’t forget if you’re not feeling a bar day or night, this place is a hybrid — grab a cold brew and book instead in the cafe area and cozy up for a coffee date, with your book or with a friend.PS: They have CAH. (Cards Against Humanity, duh!)
Cool environment, I think it would be more customer friendly to give people who get coffee or tea a cup or glass instead of a paper cup. A paper cup says “get out of here with your tea” a cup or a glass says “sit down, unwind and drink our delicious tea”. Not to mention, it’s better for the environment. Other than that it was cool.
What can I possibly say that others havent yet?!Well, if youre reading this review heres what I think of Freehold. WHY ARE OTHER BARS NOT AS COOL AS YOU!Boasting a super large indoor and outdoor space, Freehold is home many a night to millennials finishing long work days, grabbing drinks and hanging with friends. One of the reasons Freehold is so popular, at least for me and my friends, is because its not simply a bar. It boasts a large game room in the back, including a ping pong table outside. The bar is pretty large too, with very high ceilings and modern designs so you dont feel like youre stepping on peoples toes even when its full. The outdoor space is perfect in summer and winter. They have heaters warming up certain seating areas so you can have a nice chill beer and cigarette in the winter while keeping warm (every humans dream).I usually order wine although my friends are cocktail lovers and the ones theyve ordered until now have always been great. They are cool with substitutions. The wine menu is small but the variety is great. One of the issues we always fall into is finding a bar with good drinks that also serve good food. Here at Freehold we found our happy medium. They have an extensive menu with a variety of superb dishes. Of the dishes I have tried (Pictures posted below) I would come back and order those again and again. I do enjoy the fact that they have different menus for different times of the day. The brunch menu, Dinner menu and Late night menu all have different options so if youre going, you should definitely try each one.The service has always been a breeze when I go, on the occasion a server will be busy with a million other things but if you go over to the bar theyll come help you right away.I honestly love Freehold, and absolutely love that a place like this exists in Brooklyn in my own back yard!
All the staff are rude. My friends and I waited 40 mins in the cold on line after being told by a bouncer we were in the right place. Upon reaching the front they said we were on the wrong line. They would not answer questions about the other line or if we could get on to that one. I wouldnt have minded if it was a simple miscommunication but everyone at the door was so rude about it and began to completely ignore us even though we were being polite. It was so cold I couldnt feel my fingers or my toes and just ended up leaving. This experience has completely turned me off to this place and I will never return and do not advise anyone to visit.
Quite spacious and comfy. Great for Indoor & outdoor AM or PM. This place has booths, lounging chairs and sofas, outdoor ping pong, outdoor deck, and I think even a cafe/expresso bar on the side apart from a good assortment of drafts, beers, wines, and spirits. For special private events, staff is real accomodating as well. Would highly recommend if in the area.
Find me here on any given weekday enjoying my matchadamia drinks and my laptop working away. The environment here is so lovely. Seeing other freelancers on their laptops working as well gives me a sense of comfort when Im not working from home. They also have a large selection of delicious food, arcade games, pool table, and just a good place to chill. In the summertime they have their giant backyard and wooden tables to hang with friends or enjoy their BBQ and DJs.
This place tries be too many things. Its a boozy brunch spot, then a day drinking ping-pong bar, then assumes a club vibe at night.. the crowd is pretty much exclusively new-to-Bk, ex-Manhattan beautiful young crowd. If that above sounds like something youd enjoy, check it out
The ambiance was ok. Music, drinks etc were ok, but the employees were extremely rude. They push people out of the way without even asking their GUESTS to let let them by, and forget about the female manager, Page, caring at all. It is completely appropriate in her opinion for employees to put their hands on guests as long as she gives you a free cheap drink. I felt very disrespected as a woman, and felt like I was garbage instead of a guest. I will not ever be going back to this inhospitable, unprofessional place!
Im a first time visitor and my food and server were great. The one star is for the treatment I received when I entered. I arrived around 2:15pm 11/19/20 and I entered the restaurant/bar part to meet a friend. A staff member at the front of the house asked for my ID and I repeated back My ID? I was confused about why he needed it. He said yes do you have your ID? I said Im meeting someone and hes right there. Then he goes oh ok ok..youre meeting someone? Go ahead. I was still starting to reach for it and I said do you need it? And he said oh no I dont. My friend who arrived prior to me did not get asked for his ID and walked right in and sat down without being questioned. I called today around 1pm and asked to speak to a manager and the person who answered said he was a manager and I asked what their policy was for checking IDs. He said they ask for them on Fridays and Saturdays because its a bar/club. I said yes, but this was a Tuesday afternoon so Im still not understanding why they asked. He said we also ask for IDs when people order along with their card to start a tab. I said no you dont, because I ordered about 10 to 15 mins after I was seated and I was only asked for my card. The manager then went on to repeat that it was just some confusion and thats why I was asked. And I said it still did not make sense because the person I met with wasnt asked anything. He apologized, but it wasnt sincere. I have no idea why I was singled out. I still have no clear explanation of what their policy is when asking for ID. It was a disappointing experience. I doubt I will return.
Cant say enough good things about this place. Glamorous bar, coffee shop, and outdoor space all in one. You can sit on the side with a coffee shop for a more chill vibe, or in the bar or outdoor area for drinks & food and dancing. Great spot for a large group or party.
Extremely Huge, always having events, nothing is constitent,,, I love this place for its change. It holds half the residency of Williamsburg. Gets really packed between 1pm-5pm for brunch and 12am-4am for the nights. Dancing, drinking, even the staff is dancing, it really is a good time. If you like the House of Yes of bushwick, you have to check out this spot. Im telling you
By far the best place to go to on a Friday and Saturday night in Brooklyn! The music is always amazing, the vibe is always fun, and the crowd is always attractive! I recently had a birthday get together there and everyone had an incredible time! This place has quickly become my favorite go to spot to meet up with friends and socialize. Check out Freehold, try to get there early because it will definitely get packed. Enjoy the whole indoor/outdoor vibe. Thanks to Ian and Noble for helping us set everything up! You guys are the best! Security and staff at Freehold are also doing a great job!
If you get talked into waiting in line at this place by your friends- DONT. Pretentious bouncers who think they are the shit because they walk around with headsets. The line is ridiculously long (2 hours) for a mediocre bar AT BEST. Don’t go to Brooklyn for this place when you can wait in line for half the time at a place 10x cooler than this in Manhattan.
Stay away from this place! Go to the woods (down the streets) or anywhere else for that matter. I came here on a Saturday night. The staff was extremely rude, disrespectful, and discriminatory towards my friend and I for literally no reason. Definitely NOT a business that I would support. Spend your money elsewhere...there are way too many cool spots in NYC. This place is NOT worth it.
Exemplary of 2017 Williamsburg. Its post-hipster and pseudo-classy. Drink prices are on the medium to high side (food is surprisingly good and reasonably priced though). Saturday nights are loud, can develop a wait outside, and the bar fills up, but the outdoor space offers a fantastic escape with lots of seating and an additional bar.
We went there for brunch ( my birthday party) the service was really long because of kitchen problem, we waited one hour and half and we didnt get any food we ordered. After that Ive decided to talk to the waitress telling her we leaving and we did. We were lucky we found space in another restaurant ( sunday in brooklyn) everything was perfect in that restaurant.
Never been compelled to write a review, but my experience on a Friday night was obnoxious. First, they had a line out the door, waited 5 minutes to get, only to get inside and see the place was not even close to being even half filled. I guess their rule is that you can only come in if someone is behind you in line, so they have an appearance of being a hot place. Inside, the vibe was decent. Music was nice but no one dancing. Some dudes with bad intentions were standing on a table. Drinks were not too expensive. Lots of bro-y dudes wearing too much cologne. I wanted to check how long the line was outside later in the night, but was informed by the bouncer that once I took two steps outside I would have to get to the back of the line. I was like cmon to the bouncer, then he said you have to ask the guy who runs the place who is apparently standing right next to him, except he is SO short I didnt even notice him. The bouncer could have eaten like three of him in one sitting. And dessert. Anyways, Tom Cruise was like yeah, you need to go to the back of the line, which was like 50 people deep because they want to appear cool. I could not believe it. I asked again if he really was going to ask me to do this. I then actually looked down, straining my neck to look face-to-face with his lizard eyes. Then he said fine and let me in. What a power-tripping leprechaun. There was a bunch of other stupid rules this Mini-Me came up with, but I invite you to see see for yourself the nonsense that goes on. Had a good time over-all, but please treat your customers better you silly Joe Pesci in Goodfellas wannabe.
Fancy looking but they serve cocktails in plastic cups and service is poor. Ignorant wait stuff and bathroom without toilet paper. When asked an employee if they can refill, they said that person who refills starts their shift later. Also they gave us plain receipt when we asked for check cause the printer didnt have anymore ink. Our waitress didnt bother to write our receipt or to warn us that its plain cause the printer doesnt work. Had to go and ask bartender why we got plain paper... We left dissapointed.
As with all great coffeeshops in Williamsburg, ridiculously packed. Getting a seat nearly impossible. Table after table filled with startup campers whove been there for hours. Really wish these type of shops would take into consideration these camper types and give them a comfortable bar style area where they wont take up so much space. Also, this place just had coffee and a couple pastries. Wheres the food? Why wouldnt you want to increase sales and get all those people eating considering the high rents they pay. Anyway, its real pretty and all but doubt Ill be back.
Fine, but not great. Slightly snooty service and no syrups for the coffee. Place was full of solo people working quietly, even late afternoon, so we felt uncomfortable aas the only ones actually having a conversation, even though its got good seating layouts for chatting. (Hey millennials, ever hear of WeWork?)
Great outdoor space and the large layout allows for you to navigate between classic Williamsburg bar vibe and and more slight lounge-esque feel. The music can be a bit disjointed as the incorporate a number of different DJs on any given night. Arrive earlier to avoid a line to get in. No cover but they slow down entry later in the night.
Sun-TH: low-key yet busy, fun place to hang out with both indoor+outdoor spaces. Ping pong tables. Cafe is busy and a great day hangout/workspace. F/Sat nights are insane, expect lines early. Sat daytime is a drunken mess. Brooklyn crowds Sun-Thur, more Manhattan Fri-Sat.Great happy hour: half-price bar 10am-7pm M-F. 7pm-close HH: M: $10 burger+beer T: $1 oysters, $5 wine W: $3 drafts Th: $6 Moscow mules Sun: 1/2 price bottle wine.
Came alone on Saturday. The dj (Terry) made me super happy with his awesome hip-hop selection. The crowed was ok. Bit too young. Vibes were cool. Had a lot of fun while dancing! Too bad they close at 4am, Im not getting used to this. In Berlin, clubs are open like theres no tomorrow... gonna come on my next vacation for sure!
Its like a coffee-shop / hang-out / work from here kinda place by day, and turns into a bit of a see and be seen joint at night. The vibes are chill, the staff is cool, and the wifi is free. What more could you ask for?(Oh, Greg Boulos - the chef, is really quite good at taking the ordinary, and twisting it by around 10% to give it just that little bit of unfamiliar kick that makes all the difference)

2022-03-20Came in on a whim for a cocktail or 2 and it was such a relaxing and fun time! Emily, my bartender, was amazing. She made fantastic drinks and held a great conversation when needed. Sit at the bar and ask for Emily :) ( I should note the other bartenders are lovely as well! Espresso martini was great!

2021-11-21Delicious mocha, one of the best I’ve had in New York and very friendly staff. Guy helped me out with the wifi when he didn’t have to.Great place for my friends and I to remote work for a few hours while we waited to check in to our Air Bnb.

2021-09-22Ok so the pizza is great and the environment is awesome, lots of outdoor space, BUT I have to leave this review because their croissants are HORRIBLE. Do not get one. We tried them twice and they were dry both times, and honestly the worst croissants I’ve ever had.

2021-08-18Went for a friend’s birthday on a Friday night. At first it seemed like just another half-bougie beer hall but as the night wore on, the place turned into a lovely dance party where it felt like anything could happen. Fair warning: Drinks are pricey and shots were the same price as mixed drinks.

2022-03-27I’ve always loved going to Freehold during the day with my laptop and getting some work done with a coffee or a drink, but finally went out there on on a Saturday night with a group of friends and had such awful service I’m not sure I want to keep going back. We had a booth with a QR menu, and 3 of us all made orders that never showed up. We had to go up to the bar after 35 minutes of waiting for some cans of beer and show our receipts to finally get anything- this happened again a little later when another friend ordered a drink. (It didn’t seem to be an issue with the scanner though because half of our friends didn’t have any problems) We also had a reservation for our booth until 10:30pm and our waiter kept coming back and telling us we needed to leave soon (at 9, and then at 9:30pm?) and then took away our QR menu at 9:30 and said our time was almost up even though we still had an hour left. In general, felt like a big waste of money and time spent chasing down drinks.

2022-06-26I’ve lived in NYC for 10 years, I’ve been out to Freehold many times before but NEVER in my experience have I witnessed such a rude, irresponsible and inadequate staff until yesterday. The bar was at capacity so we were on line to get in (approx. 60 minute wait) and during this experience, a man collapsed and fell to the ground, so everyone was calling 911. We asked the bouncers for water and they refused. Eventually my group decided to leave and go Whiskey Brooklyn (always a good time) but one of my friends had already been inside Freehold. I tried to call her so we could all leave but it wasn’t going through. I asked the female bouncer (who was on a power trip) if I could go inside and grab her. The response was: “nothing I could do about it babe.” Eventually my friend came out and said these men had been harassing her inside. If this had been a more serious assault and I wasn’t allowed to get my solo female friend out, Freehold should be ashamed and held accountable for any and all incidents. Between that and not helping the poor collapsed man, I have no respect for this place as they have no compassion for humans. Won’t be supporting their business any longer.

2019-12-21Coffee shop / lounge by day, and a chill music filled / dj driven / club vibe spot by night.Really great spot to hang out casually during the day and hangout and have fun with friends at night. They also do bottle service in the evenings.Prices are expensive but about average for this neighborhood in Williamsburg.Lots of open space and 2 different bat areas with seating and areas to lay Back and relax.

2019-12-30Best spot for trivia! Popular neighborhood hang out thanks to its friendly bartenders and large space, with a backyard that is open during the summer. Surprisingly friendly spot for remote workers (fast wifi), with crowds rolling in at happy hour. Lots of diet/allergy friendly food options. Bring some cash and wander to the back of the bar to impress your date with an arcade game.
