Excellent experience food wise, wine pairings personally didn’t work for me but I can see why others would like it; a bit too funky/reductive for me.Great service, shoutout to Carla and Bernardo. Great taste, portion size as expected for a tasting menu.Like most of the dishes (rare for me to like all) and also the desserts.Would come again.
One of my best experience in a Resturant. Just the entrance of the restaurant let you know that will be and amazing experience with the art gallery and the hidden door. Organization, food, service, wine pairing, environment, literary... Everything was phenomenal!Definitely I would love to come back and try the new seasonal menu. If you go, you must have the whole experience with the wine pairing.Comte cheese with ice cream and truffle honey blowed my mind.Very unique place to get disconected. Detailed service, 14 seats at the bar and just 2 tables.10 stars instead 5! 🌟
My fiancée and me had a magical evening at Frevo. The art gallery with the hidden door/painting that leads to the restaurant was a great welcome, especially if you want to surprise someone on a special occasion. The dimmed lighting and jazzy background music created a romantic and intimate environment. The chefs and the whole team were warm and friendly and provided an impeccable service. The food was impressive and extremely flavorful. We loved every meal and could not decide which was the best.I would recommend this restaurant to anyone who is looking for a special evening. This culinary experience is well worth the money.
Where does one begin with an evening that mesmerized me completely?I am a harsh critic, and find truth to be necessary at all times.Frevo orchestrated so delightfully, and it has made it to my top three experiences and restaurants in New York City. I will never forget that evening. It was truly magnificent from the entrance to the desert.I am thrilled to be the witness of such splendid evolution in an establishment. I can only foresee an even brighter and stellar future for them ( Stars specifically) and am excited to revisit a third time. I will become a loyal feaster and attempt to try each new menu in the future. The ambiance is intimate and upon arrival you will be transported to a hidden realm. The service impeccable and I learned a vast amount throughout the evening. The wine pairing was phenomenal and perfectly complimented each bite. I was informed about each pairing and entree patiently and thoroughly. It allowed me become further immersed in the moment and also entertained.I am still dreaming of that Aged Comte. The robust nutty flavors of the Comte contrasting with the cold texture of ice cream haunts me. The langoustine and the ossetrra caviar dish also struck a chord. The langoustine cooked to perfection and deliciously paired with those heavenly morels and lemon balm. The fried shiso leaf complimented the fluke and caviar lovely and was a very unique flavor pairing. I also must admit the foie gras stole my heart. The smoked eel was a unique pairing with the foie and a delightful addition to my pallet. My eyes, tongue and heart were filled with joy that evening. My friend equally was thrilled, as it was her first time. Frevo, until next time.XoxApril 07 20222nd time trying-August 20211st time trying-
Good resteraunt. But I did not enjoy the wine journey. I ordered the wine pairing and every glass is so little. I have been many michellin star resteraunts and I tend to say that Frevo s glasses of wine will never let you drunk. Thrift is not only a great virtue, but also the great revenue. However, a little generosity will be long remembered.
NYC gem! Frevo is intimate sophisticated and modern. The friendly and warm team of this fresh and unique place takes you on a journey where art combines fine dining. The food is incredible. Each serving is not only complex and smart, but aesthetically stunning as well. Everything is though through. From the wine pairing accompanying perfectly each course, to the music playlist. Fair price for the quality of the food, wine and experience.
Whoever you are, you will love this dining experience. The restaurant is a kind of speakeasy place. One of the art frame is actually a secret door to the restaurant. The dining space is also well curated like the front gallery. Every dishes were so perfect presentation and very delicious. I really loved everything they had. Plates, cutlery and even byredo products in the restroom. You will be so amazed and inspired by this place. They change their menu and art every 3 months, so I will be there in 3 months! Make sure to have a reservation before. I dont think you can just walk-in.
This place is delightful and the entrance experience was fun and unique.(I won’t spoil it for those who haven’t been.)However the food, was spectacular! Amazing dance of flavors. Wonderfully curated dining experience overall. Great service, great ambiance, great wine, even great music. It was fun chatting with Chef Franco and staff between bites too.I’ll def go again.
We have dined in so many fabulous restaurants with tasting menus. Frevo is in the top 5. Its a simple concept but also amazing. The food and wine pairings are the BEST. DO NOT SKIP IT. We really enjoyed our evening and will be back. The service is exceptional. Rachael is The Queen. She perfectly described every wine. Do not miss this gem. It isnt pretentious! Its perfection.
I’ve been looking for a good restaurant with a tasting menu and Frevo blew my expectations out of the water. Amazing experience with delicious food and the perfect wine pairing. The staff is super friendly, chic interior design and the space is intimate yet spacious. They change the menu seasonally, so I’ll definitely be coming back.
Frevo is a refreshing take on dining out in New York City. The entrance is dramatic but not overdone; you enter through a quasi-gallery space in the West Village and are then led in to the main dining room. A long bar makes up the majority of the seats, with two four-tops in the back for larger parties. The food is inventive and delicious and, as expected, the wine pairing does not disappoint. Definitely get the aged Comte. Please, do not miss the aged Comte. The staff and managers are down to earth and exceedingly pleasant. Please, go to Frevo.
My wife and I had a wonderful experience in FREVO.It started by entering through a secret entrance in an art gallery and there it was… an exclusive 14-seat counter with great food and an incredible atmosphere waiting for us.The dinner was an immersive experience prepared in front of you by a team of outstanding chefs. Every plate composition and detail were carefully explained to us and we were astonished by the wine that paired every part of the dinner. We have and will continue to recommend this restaurant to every couple or groups of friends that are looking for a special evening. It was an evening to be remembered and that made our trip to NY very special.
My wife and I have dined at Frevo several times and it is a special and delicious experience each time. The dining room is cool and elegant. The staff are professional and charming. The beverage options are meticulously researched. And of course it is the delicious and inventive food menu that keeps us coming back. We look forward to our next meal.
What a great experience. Cool interior vibe, professional and friendly staff, perfect wine pairings (Somm Quentin is the best), and the food is to die for. Every course was done to exquisite perfection from the flavors to the plating. Kind of want to keep this find to myself, but it’s too good to not share with others. Go!
Definitely one of our best fine dining experiences in NY recently. This hidden spot is a must go if you are looking for outstanding food, only the best ingredients, modern, fresh yet elegant atmosphere and impeccable service. Now I understand why the restaurant of the young and award-winner Brazilian chef Franco Sampogna and his partner Bernardo Silva is figuring in all the most hyped lists of 2022. Will be back soon.
This is by far our favorite restaurant in the city! For special occasions (birthdays, anniversary etc) it couldn’t be better. Service is friendly and relaxed, every course is excellent, we’ve been here about 5 times and i don’t think i have had one bad course. Worth checking out every quarter as the menu changes. Can’t wait for our next trip. Special shout out on the wine program here, the by the glass menu has some very special wines.
I have had three unforgettable meals at Frevo. All parts of the experience — food, wine, service and atmosphere — are exceptional. The food is inventive without feeling fussy, and each dish has incredible flavor. They offer perfect wine pairings. Though this is a chic, sophisticated restaurant, their service is incredibly friendly and warm. It’s a small, perfectly appointed space that feels personal but also modern and fresh. Their presentation is glorious. And, though the meal is certainly not cheap, the price point is extremely fair for what they offer. Frevo is a gem!
Foie gras with seaweed was very tasty - an excellent add-on.Lobster was a bit over cooked. But the curry from Brittany, France gave it an unmatched aroma.45-day dry aged loin strip and Korean picked veggie creates an interesting duo.Hamachi with caviar was okay - fresh but nothing spectacular.
Frevo exceeded my expectations. My boyfriend and I went for dinner on Sat at 6pm - they have two nightly seatings (6pm, 9pm). The entrance to the restaurant has a wow factor, but that is only one of very many youll experience.Service was incredible and the open kitchen format was fascinating to watch. Not only were the servers friendly, but the level of attentiveness was exactly what you would expect for high end dining. From refilling water, to explaining each dish - the dinner was excellently executed. The food is experimental, which can be a hit or miss for a lot of people, but Frevo does each dish exceptionally. The flavors are deep and intricate and the add-ons, usually not always worth it on a tasting menu, were all worth it at Frevo. The sommelier was incredibly helpful finding the right wines for us and answered any questions we had. This was a special meal, and with the quarterly rotating menu, well definitely be back.
What an absolutely spectacular evening! From the moment you walk in to the moment you leave you are transported to a world that is intimate, beautiful, and extremely unique. The food was phenomenal, the staff and chefs were are gracious, and even the smells and sounds were extremely well thought out. I truly hope this gem keeps the beautiful vibes. Thank you for the wonderful night.
A painting opens into a dark room with sleek decor. All guests have the same courses with a few optional variations or additions. The most delightful dishes for me were the pâté and final fruit dessert topped with sesame, the latter having one of the most interesting and uniquely pleasant taste and texture combinations Ive experienced. Marvelous!
I would give it 4.5 if I could.Cool entrance. Great atmosphere and setting. Food was mostly excellent. What was disappointing was the foie gras, which was a $50 up-charge. It was a bit bland and average overall. Especially as compared to the other dishes. So that wasn’t worth it, but the 36month aged Comte cheese course add-on definitely was. Wine pairing (basic version) was excellent as well.
Food was OK, decor was OK, but the tableware was the best part about this place. That and the fact that you feel like an art thief when going in, and then like you finished an escape room when leaving.Very bad experience on not being asked about allergies or dish preference, but perhaps thats because thats normally handled on the reservation app? Unknown as I didnt reserve this dinner. Not why this is a 3 star review.Food started horrible, with a super fishy salmon roe dish. The rest of the dishes were unremarkable but standard-for-the-price executed.Dishes overall lacked thematic emphasis and seemed super random, which was not helped by the fact that every single dish seemed to be sweet+savory, which was only further accentuated by the dessert which I think was a caramel chocolate and something else that was very sweet. To be fair, the chocolate did have espresso shavings or something like that underneath and paired well with it but Im sure people just ate the chocolate instead as there were none on top of the actual chocolate.Star of the meal for me was the popped or fried corn? something that was crunchy, salty and seasoned that was served under a pork-based app (so not even the main star of that app). Even though I started the meal intending not to drink alcohol, I ordered a beer partly because of it only to see it whisked away without being asked if I was done. Second star was the smoked butter they served with the inter-meal bread, which tells you exactly how happy I was with the food overall.Meal tempo was a bit off as in horridly slow and random like 5 mins between one dish and then (what feels like) 30 mins between the next, perhaps because it was Easter and it was more packed than usual? Also note that there were no cocktails, no sake and limited beer selection. This is just my preference, so Im sure tons of people are fine with a wine-based beverage menu.Overall, a fun experience in a more unique venue for a casual get together, and also fitting within the price points competition, but definitely could have been a better meal with minimal effort. Probably wont revisit within a year, if not 2 or 3.
You come to FREVO not just for the food and drinks- which are an actual work of art. But you come also for that friendly interactivity with the entire team, the atmosphere, and to enjoy the company of whoever you’re with. It is truly an oasis hidden from the concrete jungle that is NYC.Behind what looks like an art gallery lies this contemporary restaurant. One of the artworks doubles as a door, which opens up to reveal the interior. It feels like you’re going on an adventure, not knowing what to expect behind it. Just expect to have any, and all, expectations to be surpassed. What an extraordinary evening and dining experience.
Dine at Frevo isnt only to eat food, it is an experience. I recommend booking in advance. First, you arrive at an art gallery and be amazed by the art on the wall. I must admit it is an exciting feeling when they open the door revealing the restaurant. I felt like I was transported to a different world. Music, staff and the place is impeccable. The food was so delicious and beautiful presented. I totally recommend it.
I was looking for a prefix restaurant for my 30th birthday but didn’t want to go to any old school Michelin restaurants. That’s how I selected Frevo and it exceeded all my expectations! This was the best dining experience I’ve ever had. The atmosphere was very nice and intimate too. I highly recommend this place!
Absolutely delicious meal. The flavors were incredible, the service was excellent and they were super accommodating (I’m a pescatarian and they substituted one of the courses for me). The space is very well done, and the vibe is really classy/sophisticated. A must do for foodies!
Beautiful experience is to be had here. *SPOILER ALERT in review* I love this hidden gem of a modern French restaurant. Heres the spoiler for the location, the restaurant is a speakeasy of sorts. The entrance of the restaurant is disguised as a small art gallery and the door to the restaurant is hidden behind one of the paintings. I kept this as surprise for my love on our date and told her we would stop by an art gallery by before dinner. Its a fun way to surprise a loved one. The restaurant proper has modern aesthetic but comfortable and all diners are seated at the lone chefs counter. The menu is a chefs tasting with a couple of options, such an extra cheese course or shaved truffle on a dish both for an additional charge. Wine pairing is offered as well, get the wine pairing it adds so much to the dishes. The scallops dish was by far my favorite. Definitely go here before it gets too popular. After that, reservations will be hard to come by.
My wife, her good friend, and I went to Frevo on June 25, 2022 to celebrate both of their birthdays. We had recently had dinner at Daniel, one of the great restaurants in New York City. Simply put, Frevo is better. The entire experience is phenomenal. The ambiance, music, chefs table, interactions with the team, its speakeasy feel - everything works in harmony. Every course sparkles with interesting combinations of taste and texture. And the wines are uniformly sublime and superior.Weve been to top restaurants in NYC and around the world. Frevo is in that class.
Im hesitant to even share this review as I selfishly wish this place will continue to stay off the radar. However, that would not be fair to the establishment and the amazing chefs and personnel who made last night one of the best culinary experiences of my life.Every dish was cooked in front of the 20 or so patrons lucky enough to secure a seat at this hidden gem. But cooked is surely an understatement here-- masterfully and perfectly crafted is more fitting for the dishes that comprised this 5 course dining delight. The chefs and waiters were as friendly as they were talented, each taking their time with guests to explain the dishes they were serving. There are few places like this in NYC and around the world. And soon, Frevo will be talked about with a revere and awe similar to how guests speak of Eleven Madison, Per Se and Le Bernadin. Im happy to have gotten a seat at the table before most knew who they were and I hope to be back soon.
I genuinely never write reviews but Frevo is more than worth it! In my five years living in New York I’ve not had such a fantastic dining experience as Frevo! My partner even said it was one of the best meals of his life and (he’s not one to exaggerate!). You have to go here! It’s very good value for money, excellent service, so classy and the food was exquisite!
We were a party of 4 celebrating and couldnt have been more impressed. We opted to order some bottles of wine which were fantastic. The detail and taste of every bite was amazing. This place will surely get the attention of the Michelin judges. Quite a find and we will be back again.
Food was phenomenal, wine pairing was fantastic, service was friendly and on point. A great experience - surprised it doesnt have a Michelin star yet, but it opened shortly before the pandemic shut everything down. Im guessing once they have the opportunity, it will be awarded.
Wow! What an incredible dining experience. All courses were fabulous, and explained fully. So many delicious creations. We did not opt for the wine pairing, but it would be a great addition to the meal. Every detail at this restaurant is well-thought: from the soap in the bathrooms to the cutlery. I would not hesitate to go back!
Perfect experience! Every dish was delicious and beautifully presented and the service and ambiance made for a really special date night. My husband is typically skeptical of fine dining restaurants but even he was thrilled with everything. Even though I was completely stuffed by the time it was offered, he opted for the extra cheese course because he “didn’t want the dinner to end”, which I knew was a great sign! Will be recommending this to my foodie friends!
If you want a one in a lifetime dining experience, Frevo is the place to go. From the second you step in to the second you leave, you will be blown away by the quality and service of everything. The ambiance is incredible and the food is indescribable. With each course, the team at Frevo will leave you speechless with the taste of their delicious meals, not to forget the amazing wine pairing that goes with it. The only way to get the true Frevo experience, is to make your reservation and get there ASAP!
It was an incredibly delicious and fun evening!!!As a restaurant owner it was a pleasure to watch the harmony between the kitchen and the servers. The staff couldn’t have been more friendly. The Somm and every wait person was knowledgeable about the ingredients in each dish. The chef even presented several dishes and was willing to discuss the preparation he created. There was not one dish that didn’t please the palate. You definitely have to go for a romantic and gastronomic experience!!!
Best fine dining experience Ive had in NYC so far!! I would say that Frevo is even better than the other well-established classic French fine dining restaurants Ive tried here like Delmonicos and Le Bernardin. The restaurant has a speakeasy vibe in that their entrance is hidden behind a large painting in an art gallery. The amuse bouche, 6-course meal and wine pairings were just remarkable! They truly mastered the blend of flavors and textures. I also appreciate their music and their teams coordination in preparing and serving the dishes. It was even more amazing to see that everyone in the team was so young (and friendly) but already accomplished so much and created an extraordinary experience for all the guests. The ambiance was very inviting and warm. I had such a wonderful experience and I will definitely come back!

2022-02-04This was much much more then a dinner this was an experience. We were served things we probably would not have ordered normally from a menu but we will now. Everything and I mean everything was amazing. You sit at the kitchen countertop watching your course being prepped plated and served. Everyone was super friendly and explained every course. I highly recommend Frevo. You will see us again soon.

2022-03-19Exclusive 14-seat counter, concealed by an art gallery, offers a tasting menu combined with premium wine pairings. ...sounded about right for an anniversary dinner. It was intimate & impressive & all the things that one would expect of this caliber of fine dining (including multiple chefs who personally presented each course detailing the preparation). We ooohed & ahhhed over all 12 courses & consumed every drop of the wine pairing that the lovely sommelier carefully selected. Everyone we encountered was warm & friendly & the experience was exceptional.

2022-03-16Without question, one of the single best culinary experiences of my life. INCREDIBLE food, top notch service, and a beautiful and welcoming environment. My wife and I simply marveled at watching the chef and his team prepare some of the most delicious, creative, and beautiful food Ive ever eaten. The sommelier made perfect choices for our wine pairing. The staff was super friendly. I couldnt recommend this place more!!!

2021-12-22They absolutely deserve a Michelin star, and as the guide itself puts it, they definitely fly under the radar. The atmosphere is intimate with only 16 seats at the bar, from where you can see the staff assembling the dishes. Speaking about the staff, they are welcoming, helpful, but not pushy, the perfect combination. The sommelier gave us excellent advice on a glass of wine.As for the food, everything was excellent. The appetizers combined premium ingredients like lobster and caviar in dishes that exalted them without trying to show off. The main dishes were great as well, with a special note to the white truffle with egg and brioche, an incredibly rich dish. Without paying extra though, the scallop in browned butter was amazing, with layers or complexity that I actually preferred over the truffle. The dessert was flawless, despite the use of a relatively boring ingredient like açaí (sorry!).

2022-06-04Our sommelier, Rachael, told us tonight that they didnt include anything in the restaurant unless they could make it perfect. She was right. Every aspect of this experience was impeccable. The meal starts with being welcomed through a gallery into a private elegant backroom that sits about 14 people at the counter. The comfort of the chairs, the gorgeous countertop, and the lighting all come together to set the mood for a wonderful time. This ambiance is only matched by the authenticity of the staff. Every member of the team from the head chef, Franco, to the head sommelier, Quintin, all took time to go around and get to know all the guests on a personal level. All the while, a playlist of eclectic music ranging from Afrobeats to Jazz created a vibe that anyone could assimilate to.Now for the food. Each aspect of each dish was near flawless. The meal started with a langostine tart with caviar, a foie gras mousse, amd a hamachi dip. This was followed by white asparagus in cashew cream, a wild morels/foie gras dish on toast, hake, lamb and rhubarb dessert. Each dish had a unique flavor profile that was exquisitely matched by the wine pairing. Overall this is easily one of the best meals I have had in my life. Though the price point is high, it is well worth the money.

2021-11-13Outstanding hidden gem for special occasions. One of ny’s best kept secrets, tucked behind a tiny gallery in Greenwich Village. You know you’re up for something amazing and theatrical once the painting, becomes the door unveiling their exclusive and intimate dining room.Prepare to be delighted by the array of flavors you’ll be offered!

2022-07-02Incredible experience. We booked our reservation with wine tasting to match. Definitely recommend it this way as the wine accentuates each meal. Every dish has fresh ingredients and flavorful. They describe every dish as they present it to you. The portions are the perfect size. Eating by the bar and enjoying the chef preparing your meals in front of you is a pleasant experience. Definitely recommend this for those who love a food dining experience.
