Garys Electric Studio in Brooklyn
At this point Ive worked with Al Carlson and Robbie Aceto at Garys Electric on at least 6 projects/albums, and it just keeps getting better with every session. The very ample live room has incredibly balanced and wide open sonic space with super-high ceilings, especially for Brooklyn. While everything from the gorgeous grand piano to any of the incredible vintage amps all sound full and nuanced in there, this room especially allows for drums to speak in a way Ive rarely, if ever, accessed. There is room for all of the various cymbals and drums voices to open up and bloom together as a whole kit.The engineers deep working knowledge of the array of classic microphones and outboard gear (not to mention the tons of plug-ins etc) combine with this room to inspire and capture great performances. The API 1608 console brings all the special love they are known for, and while the gear and space bring opportunities galore, none of it would hit as hard as it does without Robbie and Al ushering all the performances and signal paths with such gentle and encouraging wisdom and support. Highest marks for Garys Electric, Ill be back ASAP.
Had about a dozen sessions with Rob for our podcast and dont plan on recording anywhere else! We always feel comfortable and relaxed enough to lay down the highest quality episode we can. Hes patient with our vision and elevates the quality in ways we never wouldve thought possible. The studio is as top-notch as it gets, high-quality facility, with all the equipment you would ever need to make your vision a reality.
World-class recording studio in the heart of north Brooklyn. The location itself is incredibly impressive - massive vaulted ceilings and a main room that can fit an orchestra. The staff (Rob, specifically) is amazing, knowledgable and they are all consummate professionals. Ive had the opportunity to record varying types of audio and video and Im always wowed by the quality of everything I create there. Finally, the location is a gearheads paradise - plenty of unique amps/drums/synths that allow you to find the perfect sound.

2022-06-07Gary’s Electric was a wonderful experience. Robbie engineered the session and we were able to record five full drum tracks in four hours. The gear there is lovely as well as the live room. Very accommodating space with people to execute your ideas seamlessly. Will definitely be going back!

2022-04-21Always an incredible experience! I’ve recorded drums here multiple times over the years as well as with a full band. The in house equipment as well as the skills of the in house engineer are a rare find in the NYC studio scene. Extremely comfortable interior design is the icing on the cake. 10/10 highly recommend!

2022-04-14Favorite live room in Brooklyn. They have all the tools to make great records. Straight to the point, beautiful working environment, & great location. Highly recommend checking it out! Steinway piano is insane, sick pre cbs Fender amps that actually work. Tons of good food options within walking distance. Book a day, set up your stuff, get some good food, go back and make a hit.

2021-10-14Working with Rob is always a super fun time. Gary’s has a solid selection of gear and a reliably built control room for listening. It’s a great sounding live room as well and the place is well kept. Depending on time of day parking isn’t too hard to find if you are driving in. And you can head down the street after your session to Spritzenhaus33 for a delicious German or Belgian ale.
