I am editing my post due to the attentive and empathetic response of the owner. The kids were great in the play, my grandkids had a great time and were singing along to the more popular songs in the frozen play. I wish I had more time to wait on the line with my grandkids to take pics with Anna & Elsa, but I had to get to work.
I imagine this has to do with our COVID and Vax policy. -- Nope. Im vaccinated and happy to also wear a mask. I hope you continue to keep shows safe.Im disappointed because it was a huge struggle to buy tickets. The website was not accepting payment. The box office phone line disconnected us. I had cash and no one would take it. I nearly left with disappointed kids as time ran out for the not so spooky walk.
I have been coming here for the drive-in movies. I have seen three movies here thus far. The presentation of each film has been outstanding each time. They do indeed show the movie rain or shine, unlike some other places. Also, entrance and exit from the drive-in is fast and easy and the staff members have all been enthusiastically friendly and polite. The historic nature of the property and buildings adds to its charm. I hope to return for more movies and at some point attend live theatre productions once that returns.
My daughter and I saw On Your Feet on Mothers Day. The show was outstanding. The actors are extremely talented and professional. They all did a phenomenal job. It was beyond our expectations. All of the employees at the Gateway are very dedicated, helpful and professional. A nice touch on Mothers Day.... Moms were offered a complimentary drink. We look forward to booking another show in the near future.
Great haunted house ! It was the perfect amount of scare for me, I like that the actors can’t touch you. The set up is nice, there is a lot to do while your waiting to go inside. It does get pretty hot inside so if your wearing layers deff take some off before you go in. There is tons of actors and the decorations were awesome !
Fantastic Show! Really enjoyed the endless energy and amazing talent of the performers. Very enthralling! Laughed , cried and got to dance at the end! Saw it on Broadway and this was just as, if not more entertaining! Beautiful, costumes, props and expertly done! Loved it! A must see!!
Your boy is back at it again for this one. We visited the Gateway Playhouse. This was very enjoyable, and what made this cool was they incorporated even children into the horror event. This is a must-see if you like your Halloween thrills. I didnt give it five stars only because I feel their makeup could be better. I know these are all inspired, young actors. They seem to have fun and enjoy what they do.
It was pretty awesome. They have great lighting effects with sound and wind to help with the exhilaration of the senses. My girlfriend was excited and so was I. Only thing missing was the touching, there should be waivers signed so that those that sent mind can wear some neon type tags as signs to allow touching. They have the right idea on how to surprise you. Actors are great, they do their job well.
Being my first time at the Gateway, I did not know what to expect. I must say that I was very ..very .impressed! The staff was friendly and helpful. The performance of On You Feet was so many good things....funny...sad and specially Super Music. If you didnt at least stir in your seat...you had to be dead!! The actors were just wonderful! We had such a great time ...if I can..I will see it again! Thank you Gateway!
I love going to gateway playhouse. They put on the best shows on Long Island. Second to New York City Broadway shows only. Many of the actors in their shows are Broadway level actors. These are not hobby actors. Just saw Forbidden Broadway. What a Great Production. At the end when the actors took their bows I was stunned to realize that particular show contained only 4 actors. (Note I am using actor as a gender neutral noun in place of saying actors and actresses). They do not allow photos so no photos to post. Sorry! They do have a bar and on a nice evening it’s lovely to get there early and sit outside and sip on a glass of wine. The parking is on grass and pebbles there are no formal parking lots so ladies when picking out shoes keep this in mind.
We have never been disappointed in Gateway Playhouse shows and Million Dollar Quartet proved that point! We were a little hesitant about attending a show during covid times but with vaccination cards in hand and masks we felt somewhat safer. Aside from that, every seat is a good seat and roomy enough for my husband who will not do Broadway shows anymore because of tight seating. So, yes, Gateway is highly recommended
Last year the walk through was 1000% better but I understand due to covid. The drive-thru version on the spook walk was pretty good and I would think pretty older kid friendly last year was so much better though. There was beer and food and places to shop and games and so so so much more. So dont think this is all the have to offer. They are working with very strict guidelines that they followed successfully. It just limits the experience and what the could do. Please give them a chance next year if you were dissatisfied with your experience. They have a lot more to offer!
I am a season ticket holder for many years. I had an amazing experience yesterday with your box-office associates, Joanne & Erin. I needed to make a few date changes. They both handled the situation very professionally & very efficiently. Special thank-you to them & to the management.
We love this place and been seeing shows here for over 25 years. Last night we had the pleasure of seeing the Bodyguard. The casting, the acting and set designs were perfect. Because we are such tremendous fans of Whitney Houston we took the front row. But unfortunately the sound system was not working and they had horrific feedback during the musical numbers, there was such a loud crack during one of the numbers that it caused a terrible ringing in my ear that I still woke up with. By the end the sound system finally blew out and the voices were no longer recognizable . This was a shame for the cast and crew and everyone works so hard on the show and lets not forget the very expensive seats at $90 a each. We’ve never been so disappointed in this theater. We won’t be going back until we hear the sound system has been fixed properly.
Gateway is a great small, local theater. Every seat is a good seat. Ive seen many shows, and each have exceeded my expectations. After seeing Rent twice on Broadway, I saw it at Gateway last year, and it rivaled the quality of the Broadway production. I highly recommend!
Saw On the Town. The quality of dancing, singing, and acting were of Broadway caliber while tickets were a third or less of the price. Sets were amazing. Theater itself is a bit worn and in need of a face lift, but comfortable and small enough that everyone can see a good show. The theater campus and surrounding town and waterfront s lovely. Gateways mission to promote musical theater education is appreciated.
This was overall by far one of the best haunt experiences Ive ever had. Gateway Playhouse spares no expense to put on one of the greatest spooktacular shows on Long Island. I was fortunate to met the producer and director of the playhouse tonight. One of the nicest people Ive ever met. He took me on a quick tour around the entire playhouse. He made me and my co-worker feel extremely welcome. I would rate this establishment a 10 out of 10 on the haunt scale. This is truly a show not be be missed and to be loved by all. As a member of the haunt community, I truly appreciated all the intricate detail incorporated into this production. Gateway playhouse delivers everything that you could want in haunted event. I will most definitely be returning next year and will be recommending this to all my haunt friends and family. Gateway leaves you wanting more! Cant wait for next year! Happy Haunting!
To be honest , I feel like its way too overcrowded, they should figure out a better way to make it less packed. I get it they are trying to make as much money as possible but seeing as so many people go they should have it as reservation only and limit the amount of people for each time slot so youre not just waiting in lines for hours. I got there around 9 and didnt get into the haunted house until like 11. also the jump scares werent that amazing, here and there they had some really cool rooms and actors but as a whole idk not the best haunted house Ive been to. I think it could of been better.
The best. Ive seen other productions of Cabaret, but this was far superior. Josh Cantwell gave an excellent performance. I saw him in Memphis last month and he was suburb. How he nailed to completely different roles is unbelievable. Courtney Wolfson was magnificent too. Her perfect voice not only sang but acted at the same time delivering the songs emotion. I had never heard the song Cabaret sung with such feeling before. It was usually song in a flat almost monotone voice in a failed effort to portrait the sadness intended at the shows conclusion. I have to mention the set design and the smoothness of the set changes. They were a work of genius. The rest of the cast deserve a thumbs up too. Possibly the best show Gateway has every done and I have loved quite a few.
This old renovated dairy barn started out doing summer stock where Robert Duvall got his start.Every year they do 5 musicals which are all enjoyable. My husband & I usually hang around a bit after the show and get to talk to cast members. They really enjoy hearing from folks about how they enjoyed the show.Season tickets are a great buy. This is a great alternative to Broadway as many of the actors have done Broadway and television.
I saw Rocky Horror Picture Show here. I felt as though I was in the movie. The players brought the movie to life, filled with energy and enthusiasm that give Rocky Horror its uniqueness, something FOX couldnt do. The lively audience added to the atmosphere. I cant wait to return to see another one of their plays. This is how you do theatre - and at a great price may I add!
Love gateway respect the actors they always try to scare everyone. The security is on point. Dont bring a bag they wont let you bring it in the house. No lighters either. Im amazed Ive gone three times this year alone and every time has been different somehow they manage to change the house to make everything night different. They only charge 35 at the door or 30 online. Fast pass is 40 online and 45 at the door. The workers are amazing I wish they spaced out groups better like darkside haunted house thats my only issue.
Very Good Show. Saw an Evening with Groucho . This is like going to Broadway without paying the Broadway price or the hassle and cost of getting to the city. These shows arent just Bway quality. They are the actual Broadway Shows. Actors and all. And I found out that the Gateway follows the same rules as the Broadway Theaters do. Cant beat it. And theyre not just plays. They have the best in the Tribute groups as well. If you havent been here before, you dont know what youre missing. It pays to go on line and check out the up coming shows.
Had a good night out. Tables and chairs are in an outside area that you can sit and hang out if you get to the playhouse before the show. The shows themselves seem very well put together for an off Broadway show. Only company is that there isnt a full bar, beer and wine only
Funny show but I was told the stage can be easily seen from any seat which was Not the case! All I saw were heads in front of me at the Bellport Theatre. If I go back there again, I would Only sit up front-- otherwise its Not worth it. They shouldnt have lied saying that there are no bad seats in the house.
First time visit. Last year, experienced Dark Side in Wading River. I enjoyed both Haunted Houses, but there are differences. Gateway, like Dark Side had very creative props, rooms and themes. I felt Gateway had more rooms and themes. Was surprised at how many very young people were playing the scary characters which was different from DS. Characters were mostly jumping out with a scream or two in your face or crying, but not much in the way of any other acting per se. Loved the stairwells down into basements, moving floors and bridge. The red eyes room, items to navigate through or hanging from ceiling were a treat. Also the Darkside didn’t have the interactive Guest Services Zombie (humorous & eerie, an arcade, shop, picture ops and food outside which are all great ideas and fun. The electronic number signs to know when it’s your groups turn is a great idea rather than just waiting in line. Overall, we had a lot of fun! Both are same price. Would be helpful if coupons or Groupon discounted rates were available.
I saw the Flashdance movie starring Jennifer Beals back in the early 80s when it first came out and I loved it. When I saw it was turned into a play I had to go see it but I must admit that I was a bit skeptical when I bought the tickets. However, I was not disappointment with the show and I enjoyed the whole cast and thought Julia Macchio was amazing. I would definitely recommend that everyone see the show.
Couldn’t give this place and the haunted house performance a 6 star, but I would of if I could. I go into these with a humorous approach and was so happy to not see one of the actors break their character and either laugh or comment at me. I went to the Calverton one and it was meh. This one though was just unbelievable and as genuine I’ve found on Long Island so far. Thanks for being here
Model and actress, Isabella Rossellini was seated in front of us, so that was a plus. The lobby of the theater was unbearably hot, but the theater itself was very comfortable. The theater is small, so any seat is a good one. The show itself was very racey, great acting and production value.
Drive In movies.Ever since the pandemic, The Gateway has been playing good movies hits in their drive in series. Back To The Future, Men In Black, etc. Itsvery smoothly the way they do it. From scanning the tickets to directing you where to park. Staff is courteous and helpful .
This place way scary. I just left and my legs hurt after being tense from fear. I looked up a lot of haunted houses and saw iffy reviews so I kind of gave up until I was invited to this one. Definitely worth it. The actors were great especially since I was in the last show, they were very commuted to the scare. I dont want to say anymore else bc I dont want to give it away.
Would work here again in a heartbeat!! How a one star rating w/no review got posted in the first place Ill never know, so deleted it once it was mentioned to me. Playing Fraulein Schneider, one of my favorite roles again, has been a God send, and I thank Paul, Michael, Larry, Scott, Rob, and everyone in the Gateway family for their generosity, hard work, and for making CABARET a joyous experience.
My daughter is an actor in the annual Haunted Playhouse and attends the conservatory. What am incredible gem Gateway is to so many people. With less and less funding going to theater and performing arts, even more reason to support Gateway. Monthly, Seasonal and Holiday shows for kids, teens (Les Mis Teen Edition) and seniors.
If you are looking for a cheap enjoyable time, this is a good choice. There is even an icy shop in the same parking lot. Get there early for good parking. This is not a professional playhouse but they put on a good show. I sometimes use this place at work with people with mental disabilities.
I had such a great time! Ive been going to Gateway for 7 yrs now and its different everytime. Gets better every year. Theyve added extra security. Not sure why but it didnt take away from the fun.Its a must see! One more week before the last show this season so hurry.
Musical arrangements and direction appeared to be more on a college level of thratical performances. Sound quality was poor. Voices were not intergrated or capitalized. But it was highly energetic and the dance remined me of Vegas showgirls. Storyline and book were predictable and sterotypical.
The place is run down and in need of some TLCIn the past we had been subscribers for the season. But not this year. Ticket prices have gone up while the plays quality have been going down. Some plays they had I was actually embarrassed to have taken my daughter there to see it, between the language and content..oh boyIll be very choosy in what Ill see there
Scary haunted house. I love the camouflage of the actors, you dont know theres someone there until your an inch from them. Best hiding Ive ever seen. The only bad thing is they dont seperate people enough, you see them scare the people in front of you too much. Awesome haunt, ive gone to every house and this is the 5th best in the tristate area.
Concessions are very limited., I advise you to bring your own snacks . Acoustics not so great in Patchogue theater, a little echo to be noticed and vocals are not so clear ! Show that I saw was not even close to Off Broadway quality ! You get what you pay for, I suppose?
Show was phenomenol we belong to several broadway theatre groups and constantly tell our friends about Gateway that it`s as good as broadway and much cheaper. Also the restaurants are terrific especially the Bellport. We live in Manhattan and Bath and Tennis hotel on week ends in the summer,we constantly tell our LI people about Bellport ,many dont seem to know about it. Have written to Todd Haimes several times expressing our extreme satisfaction re different shows.

2021-10-16After seeing an ad in the Hometown News, we visited the Not So Scary Halloween event today and were disappointed when we arrived to discover you could ONLY purchase tickets online. This was not noted anywhere on the ad, nor was the website listed on the ad. This information should definitely be added to the ad in the future. After trying and struggling to order the tickets from our phones, we finally decided to call the box office and were able to get through to a very helpful person who got us our tickets. The child actors who were along the spooky walk were all adorable.

2018-08-22Gateway Playhouse has been a staple for performance arts and workshops on LI for many decades. It has only gotten better with the years. I have attended performances since the 1960s. Over the years the playhouse has accommodated attendees with a selection of snacks and drinks both prior to the performance and at intermission. There is plenty of ourdoor seating to relax and take in the charm. The last performance we attended was Caberet. The sets were believable and changed effortlessly. The voices of the performers and stage presence was as good as those on Broadway. Well worth the drive to Bellport.

2021-10-07Well organized and guided parking, nice koi pond and beautiful grounds. Theater puts on a great show! Seen Rocky Horror, Phantom of the Opera and a few other excellent plays here! Really comfortable and cozy atmosphere in the playhouse and they put on an awesome play. So worth it, always leave entertained! The Rocky Horror Picture Show was a brilliant time!

2021-10-23It’s interesting that you jumped to conclusions in your reply? It’s also interesting that you are identifying with Broadway protocols considering Broadway is closer to NJ than your venue. Maybe I just thought you deserved a single solitary star? Take the bad with the good and grow. This wasn’t for me or my family. It’s an honest review.

2021-08-13We had a wonderful time. We saw the play Million Dollar Quartet. The play was amazing. The performances were outstanding. They had Jerry Lee Lewis and Johnny Cash down perfect. And the music was fantastic.
