This location is not even deserving of one star. The parking is horrible. Cars in the grass and on the road. Bathroom full of mold. The kitchen is dated and smells of sour milk. Staff was extremely rude to my wife and my children. The bedding had several stains and as a family of four it was pulling teeth to get additional towels for us. Would not recommend this to anyone looking to stay in Lake Place or Saranac area. Skip this one.
Nice little motel near town. Nothing special about the rooms, but the location is great. And, the waterfront location is made better by the free kayaks, canoes and fishing gear. My only complaint is that the doors need to be replaced. The knobs in particular are really old and ours was broken. It often took 2-3 minutes to wiggle it enough to unlock it.
This place is a gem with the best lake view in town! The staff are amazing and so accommodating. The wife and I came up for our 1 year anniversary and they did everything to make it special including a bottle of wine for our celebration. You get use of their canoes, paddle boats and kayaks as well as fishing poles and bicycles. We will be back here for sure. Highly recommend staying here.
I stayed here over 3 years ago and promised to write a review and never did until now. I made a day trip with my girlfriend from NYC on Aug.9, 2017 just to get away to the Adirondack mountains. I settled on this place although some of the reviews werent very kind regarding the rooms, the beds and whatever people had to complain about. After she had worked overnight, and slept for most of the drive up she got up in time to see little areas along the drive that she wanted to see and explore, which we did. Once we got to our motel, the check in service was very friendly and courteous. I dont remember the gentlemans name, but I do remember his kind nature. We got to our room and could find nothing wrong with neither the room nor the bed. By the time we got up the following morning and secured breakfast and briefly visited nearby Lake placid which we visited for dinner the night before we had to checkout. To me, this is the best part....AFTER checking out, we asked to use the bikes and canoes and they said YES!!! So because our trip was so short and we spent the night with them, even though we had checked out, they still allowed us the use of their amenities...amazing. Thanks to everyone at Gauthiers Saranac Lake Motor Inn for an enjoyable experience.
This place was so cute. Friendly staff. Clean rooms. And the free use of kayaks and canoes right on the water was a wonderful bonus. It MADE the stay. If youre high maintenance or looking for a five star hotel this isnt the place. It has a small lake town motel feel & the view! Literally steps from your room & youre on the lake. They are making some minor renovations as well since the pandemic shut everything down but it did not interrupt the stay at all. There is a boat rental place right behind it as well if you want something bigger on the water. Overall I was pleased with my stay.
We had a wonderful experience here about two weeks ago when we were on a motorcycle trip and then again this week with a car trip. The ladies at the front desk (Denise and Tania) are very nice, helpful, detailed, patient and easy to talk to. The place was close to all the amenities and right by the lake and hiking trails. The room was clean and spacious. The parking lots and grounds were well maintained. We will be back again soon!- Christina & Nandan
The Owner and Operator of this property are rude and pretentious. I unfortunately had a medical emergency that placed me in the hospital. I tried to cancel but they charged me fully. I would have paid a cancellation fee but they are greedy hungry people. I booked through Booking.com which stared there is free cancellation, but this , unknown to me, was non refundable. I will not support this garbage hotel nor Boking.com
I liked the fact that my unit was right on the water and it was comfortable - although not great for longer than a couple nights. There was no dresser, no microwave (I guess you could ask for one, but I didnt know that) and only 2 hangers.Their cancellation policy is very strict and even though a member of our party had a health emergency so couldnt go, and they were able to rent the room to another member of the party, they would not refund the money! The owner was very arrogant about it, and would not budge. Also, they say you have free use of their kayaks and water equipment, but a $10/day fee is actually added to your bill whether you use the equipment or not!
My mom and I recently stayed there and we loved it. So beautiful right on the water. Rooms were very clean and the owners were so friendly, very nice people. Also loved that they had paddle boards, kayaks, paddle boats and bikes that were included with our stay for no extra charge that we could use whenever we liked. We will definitely be staying there again and are looking forward to it. 😀
Our family of 5 had a great stay here. Loved sitting outside our room with the beautiful lake 10 feet away. We used every kayak, canoe, and paddle board. The kids loved the tennis court and basketball court. Many restaurants close by but not in a crowded town like Lake Placid. The rooms are not fancy but the beds are comfortable and they have all you need. They even provided a rollaway that I slept on comfortably. We hope to be back!
We stayed at many hotels while we were in the area. This was our favorite for many reasons. It was Spacious, had friendly staff and was very clean but most importantly we could walk right out to the water. Complimentary kayaks and water toys! Life vests, paddles and more were all available to us at no additional cost. The view of the lake is gorgeous. The hotel is centrally located, and boat docs are a hop skip and a jump away! We were impressed with the spaciousness and proximity of the hotel rooms. You could walkTo many destinations and driving to most destinations was alsoConvenient. The property was well maintained and you will find helpful staff everywhere. I would recommend this hotel to any of my family members or friends.
Unfortunately, I had high expectations from the friendly staff and amenities offered but my most recent stay was not great. Every time I moved on the bed, the frame made a loud squeak. There is no shelving in the shower to put anything. I found an old food container with food still in it under the bed and there were ants in and around it. For the price, I should have stayed somewhere else.
Small rooms, a bit dated, with a balcony overlooking the lake 15 feet away. We had the end room (28) so we had what might be the best view of the lake. Older motel but was affordable and a great spot to watch the sun set after being out and about all day. The one investment the owners really need to consider is mattresses in which ours was quite worn and had read that in other reviews.
Family-owned and completely charming motel.Rooms: Very good! Yes, not the most modern spaces inside (we used two rooms and both were completely functional and clean) with clean bathrooms and carpets that were replaced probably a year or two ago and in great shape. Mini fridge and microwave in one, other was a single room without extra amenities. When on vacation in the Adirondacks you should not be spending your time in the room other than to sleep and shower.Facilities: Superior! Canoes, kayaks, bikes, pool, paddle boats and SUPs available for free right outside your door. Spectacular sunset views from lake-facing rooms. Really good value for the price.Service: Extraordinary! Seriously, six-star service from the staff without the posh attitude. Responsive, quick and exceptionally personable. They say “we treat you like family” but they treat you better than most families! I experienced and witnessed customer service that was as good or better than some of the finest hotels I have stayed at around the world.Overall, a great location within walking distance of bars, restaurants and other amenities. But the service makes this stand head and shoulders above the rest!!
Expensive, bad service, rooms are OLD and there are hardly any electric outlets! Promised a microwave to go with the small fridge ( on the floor ) not available! A/C controls accessable only if you are on your knees! Could barely see them without a flashlight.DONT GO HERE, YOULL BE SORRY......
We stayed there for 4 days the end of June. The owners are amazing and the place is very well kept and clean. Its very central to food and drink. The Mexican restaurant across the street is great and the brewery down the street is also very good. Its close enough to lake placid you can see or do whatever you want. Book this place youll be happy you did.
First, we forgot to leave a tip for the cleaning staff so I am writing this review to make up for it!Gauthiers is AWESOME. Cleanest hotel/motel/inn we have EVER stayed at. Super friendly staff -- they make you feel like immediate friends. Very accommodating and personable. We love the selection of free boats... we always take out the paddle boat to fish, and the kayaks to explore. Beds are comfy, fridge and microwave are very convenient to have. The water pressure in the shower was a little uncomfortable and the shower head was low for us but no big deal.We always stay here when we come to the Adirondacks. The balcony rooms with lake view are the best. Love listening to the loons on the lake late at night. Mid-week has lower prices. Lakeview Deli down the street has the best sandwiches to take out on the boat for lunch!Perfect place to stay if you are in the region.
What made the trip was the paddle boats, kayaks, and other toys, balcony views, BUT...,,The carpet in the room was nasty definitely needed to be replaced or at least cleaned , also could use an HDMI cord on the TV so your not watching a snowy TV. And the grim on the Ac unit. Other then that such a beautiful place to visit.
We stayed here for 2 nights June 1-2, 2014 and had a very relaxing time. Beautiful location only 20 from waters edge. Owners are delightful and provided friendly help and answers to all our questions. Our room was spotlessly clean and comfortable. Free coffee is ready every morning and the setting is quaint and charming. If you want a special experience and not another big box chain hotel room, make a reservation at Gauthiers.
This is a MOTEL not hotel or inn!Really clean and comfortable, dated carpet but nice and clean, comfortable beds.Super friendly staff and helpful owner.the location is right on the water with shallow entry for kayaks and canoes, the canoes look good but the kayaks where needing repair as the back rests are broken. We paddled down the lake and its picturesque.Next door is swiss marine boat rentals and they where great.15 minute walk and your in town great restaurant Left bank cafe, and great cafe blue moon.
We were extremely happy with our stay. The room was much nicer than we expected. Beautiful View of the lake. They have kayaks and canoes you can use to explore the connected lakes right outside the door and you can even take a canoe into town to listen to some live music. The staff was extremely friendly and very knowledgeable of the areas outdoor attractions and restaurants. Very clean, eco friendly, much nicer than some of the other motels in the area. Great value as well. Looking forward to another trip to Saranac Lake in the future and now we know exactly where to stay!
Beautiful location. Situated right on the lake and offers great activities like kayaking. However, the hotel is very dated, poorly maintained, and the room smelled AWFUL. The bed wasnt particularly comfortable and the bathroom was very dark. To be clear, this is a motel, not hotel or inn quality. I did not stay overnight, but just visited someone staying there for an hour. After seeing it and being in the room, Id never stay there myself.
This place should not be called a hotel. It is definitely an inn and it is extremely dated. The curtains do not close, the doors do not lock completely, the shower barely works, the carpet was stained and the TV has no reception at all. The walls were paper thin and you could hear others clearly next door. We stayed the first night and then kindly asked for a refund on the other days and we were dismissed immediately with no apologies.
I would like to let anyone reading this know this lovely hotel is owned & managed by a very caring, attentive staff. My husband and I decided we were off to the Lake Placid area for our anniversary to enjoy a beautiful scenic and relaxing long weekend... we were welcomed by a lovely host who showed us to our room and also gave us a complimentary bottle wine for our anniversary, right outside our door was a lovely view of Saranac Lake, which we were literally on top of ... simply gorgeous! This hotel offers free of charge canoe, kayak, paddle boats or bicycles free of charge to its guests. They are always walking the grounds and talking to the guests to make sure that everyone is taken care of and also to make sure that everyone is comfortable and most importantly safe, my husband and I happen to have gone out on the weekend that they were having their annual rugby event, which apparently can get a little overwhelming with the younger crowd wanting to party, my husband and myself and other guest witnessed nine rugby players which looked to be both male and female attempting to all sneak into one room, well needless to say the manager / owners were all over it already as they have cameras placed all around the hotel and inn for everyone’s safety ......out they went! It’s nice to know that these business owners aren’t about the money they are about the well-being and comfort of their guests. The rooms are very clean, anything you need from extra soap, shampoo, towels so on so forth they will gladly supply you with, they definitely go above and beyond to make your stay an enjoyable one ....Thank you to all the staff at Gauthier’s we are looking forward to coming back next year .... I forgot to mention on the second night of our stay they gave us yet another bottle of wine with beautiful wine glasses..maybe they liked us a little? Whatever the case the feeling was mutual thanks again & we highly recommend this hotel ~Show less
Im generally not into giving a non generous review, however I am an attention to details kind of guy. The staff was helpful and very friendly. More attention to adequate space for personal belongings (bathroom), cleaning between guests( bathroom exhaust, under the bed, behind the radiators), improperly working door handles is an issue for me. A bit pricey 🤷♂️
Lovely Inn with helpful staff. Booked because it was the cheapest over the long weekend but were pleasantly surprised. Free boat/kayak/paddle boating on first come first serve basis. The place was right on the lake so we had amazing views. Not too many good restaurants close by unless you go to Lake Placid.
Stay here Atleast once a year for the past 5 years. Usually get up there early and do a hike before I check In. Everytime I’ve visited Gauthier’s they have been nothing But downright awesome. Always ask how my hike was, they have plenty advice and are always accommodating. Not to mention the kayaks, canoes and bikes at your convenience right on the lake. Can’t beat Gauthier’s!
Customer service and the gentleman was very rude. Tried to belittle a group of women the moment they stepped on the property to just change in their friends hotel room. 11:30 in the morning he said people complained about a noise complaint but these women were very pleasant and not loud at all. He refused to give them their money back for the next night and was down right nasty to them. I would not suggest this place to anyone and will rethink my decision on staying at this place again. If management would kindly reconsider this employees who claimed to be the owner. As the women left this employee continued to belittle the women to current renters at this inn.
This place is monsterous. due to covid sickness my other half attempted to cancel our booking on Wednesday. there was no answer. Thursday, no answer. finally on Friday the owner picked up and refused to give us our refund even after we explained we have been trying to reach him for days. he said that he was in the business of making money and he was refusing to give us back the 300 dollars that he stole. he said that their policy was 72 hour notice, but supplies no way to contact him and then steals your money. go anywhere else. horrible attitude the whole time. nasty demeanor. if he is like this with customers, I cannot imagine what he is like with staff. zero stars.
I want to support the owners of Gauthiers for the best customer service I have ever witnessed. We booked a stay and were very happy with our room and the surroundings until a group of very selfish young women occupied the room next to us. They were some sort of team--dont think the coach was with them--and they were really noisy and obnoxious. Not what you would expect from a respectable sports team. Anyway, we complained and to our utter surprise, the owner had them removed from the inn. We have never seen someone be so supportive of their customers. We were so grateful that they honored our visit and we will always return and recommend this family-centered location. Thank you so much.
My family and I (my wife and I and two kids) were at Gauthiers for 5 days recently as part of our annual pilgrimage to Saranac Lake. We have been coming to Gauthiers for 9 years now and cant say enough about how much we love it. Dan and Doug are such accommodating hosts; laid back and yet always responsive to any request. The price is reasonable and the view cant be beat. The kids love the pool and the nearby tennis courts. The complimentary canoes and kayaks are a highlight. The location is close enough to walk or canoe to town and an easy drive to all the wonderful attractions of the Adirondacks. I highly recommend it for anyone that wants a convenient, affordable and comfortable place to stay in the Adirondacks. It is one of the highlights of our year. We look forward to coming back again next year. The Wendell family
Nicole Brownell,I just stayed at your establishment and wanted to let you know of my great disappointment. The following things happened to us while staying last week:The first was no heated pool-we arrived to see a closed pool. This was advertised on you web site to be open till 9/15The man (elderly gentleman) told us we can still swim somewhere else? Then he took us down a set of steps to our room not showing us there was a ramp.extremely small bathroom with a broken blind , no vent fan. The water was extremely hot (beyond just hot-dangerous), my wife got scalded. This was way past hot, as a matter of fact it made the cold water run hot as well. No ground fault next to the sink.Children staying above us running around in the room very noisy, and one could hear every time they went to the bathroom. No room phoneWe then asked your other front desk man if we could move, he was very help full (Hussein?). He moved us to room 32.Again issuesDVD player did not work, It was jambed closed.a very very Strong mold growing next to bed around night stand. Both rooms the bathroom was tiny. I am 61 barley enough room to move, no shelf for toiletries.Needless to say the trip was not as we had expected paying over 700.00 for 5 nights.
The prices was great. We didnt have reservations and stopped in several motels to see what was available and at what prices. This place had the lowest price at $79. We asked to view the room and it was as clean as my house - the only problem was that the previous occupant had cooked something that smelled the place up and the smell hadnt completely disappeared before we entered. The room was closed up tight and if it had been aired out or the airconditioning left on there wouldnt have been a problem. The smell didnt last after we turned the air on. The beds were comfortable. Each rental comes with a canoe or paddle boat - we didnt get to use because of arriving so late and having to leave very early but it was a great ammenity anyway. Will stay here again.
We loved this little motel! Nothing fancy - just friendly staff; with bikes, kayaks & canoes available. No fuss, just help yourself. Just a short walk or drive to town (town of Saranac Lake.) Only a few miles from Lake Placid (if you must, we found Lake Placid to be pricy and too touristy.) Flower Lake is lovely and connected to other lakes. We would go back (and hope to again soon.) If vacation to you means relaxation, this is for you.
Great, for few days stay no for a long vacation but we enjoy our stay and staff was very friendly, room very clean, little out date it but if the mattress, main door and ac are update I will give 5 stars besides this it was a very pleasant stay. Please take advantage of the free bikes and canoes and pool.
I would not stay here EVER! It was awful. Smeld like moth balls, killed live spiders at the ceiling, the bed was sooooo old that I had to check for bed bugs. When I spoke to the manager the next morning mentioning that the room was not worth $154 he looked at me and ask if I needed anything else from him. I do not recommend staying at this old establishment.
We arrived there after a 7 hours drive knowing we will have a room suitable for a wheelchair since that was what we ordered. Unfortunately when we got there nothing looked like the pictures. we had a small room with stairs - not a wheelchair accessible - without a kitchen. we had to go to another hotel which fortunately was much better. we were very disappointed since we correspondent with the hotel prior to our arrival and alert them to the wheelchair.
I have traveled to Lake Placid and Saranac Lake at least 2 times per year for the last 4 years and have always stayed with Gauthiers Saranac Lake Inn. The lodge is family owned and family (and dog) friendly. The location is ideal for proximity to my favorite outdoor activities, including skiing, hiking and running. The lodge is short drive to the Lake Placid village area and all of the major attractions. But, what keeps me coming back everytime is the gorgeous lakefront location and friendly and accommodating Brownell family. The owners have a huge knowledge of the area and activities, connections to local businesses and they are an excellent resource for suggestions and information on fun things to do while in town.
Visited Saranac Lake NY Memorial Day weekend 2012 and stayed at Gauthiers Saranac Lake Inn. We checked in (family of 4), and stayed in on the the Superior Queen rooms overlooking the lake with a balcony! What a view! The room was clean, freshly renovated and the sliding door to the balcony was such a great surprise. The kids loved the flat screen tv (they hooked up the XBox live) and my husband and I went out on the balcony and watched the beautiful sunset our first night there. We toured Saranac Lake and Lake Placid Saturday, lots to see, and Saturday afternoon went to Tupper Lakes Wild Center. That was a hit with our kids, they loved the OTTERS!!!Sunday we took out the kayaks that Saranac Lake Inn has for there guests to use, free. Paddled around out on the lake, no one flipped over thx goodness. We checked out, and cannot wait to return again!
I enjoy this place very much, returning this summer for the 5th time. Great for families with kids. if you are looking for luxury accomadation, fine dinning/overpriced crap so you can show off your wallet size? Please stay out of Saranac Lake and stick with Lake George.
Run down, rotten food in the fridge, son cut his foot on the exposed rug strip, terrible beds, paper thin walls, terrible view of a marina vs advertised lake, paddle boards broken, paddle boats were both broken, smelled like 1978 inside. Im an outdoorsman and camp often. Should have just stayed in our car. Yuk.
Amazingly beautiful place, the view is to die for... VERY lovely staff members and owners, we would like to give a very special thanx to both Kathy and Dennis for the help... VERY recommended!!!It is also possible to borrow a pedal boat or a Kanu and many other forms of sailing. For FREE.Wishing to be back...

2022-07-02Stay away at all costs. The rooms are not advertised correctly. Booked a “ deluxe” double room with a lakeside view & balcony. Was given a dirty converted garage room with a partial lake view. We kindly approached the front desk asking for another accommodation. We were understanding and very respectful. The front desk immediately became defensive and called the owner. Regretfully, the owner said he’d switch our rooms to a normal room (not in the garage) for an additional $130. We asked to speak to the owner for a refund as our expectations were not meant. We did not pay $250 a night for a garage room with dirty stained furniture with a broken AC. Additionally the amenities were in rough shape. Moldy and worn. The owner is a complete nasty man. We asked to speak to him. He got completely nasty. I called him out for being disrespectful. He said, “I’m the owner and could I disrespectful asI want”. What he’ll say is we’re disrespectful, but after speaking to the city’s chamber of Commerce this hotel’s owner and wife are known by the city for their horrible hospitality and price gouging. He’s a gas lighter and liar. Be very much aware. Protect your assets. And don’t engage with this business.

2022-05-29Great location. Easy to find. Free use of canoes kayaks fishing poles and bikes. Rates are very reasonable. Only reason for 4 stars is no air-conditioning. We were hot...opened windows and curtains but then couldnt sleep well because companion likes a pitch black sleeping area

2022-02-22Very clean, comfortable beds. Very kind and considerate staff. On the lake. Access to canoes and paddle boats. Great fishing . Restaurants and stores in walking distance. And you cant ask for a better view of the lake and mountains..

2022-06-09Too expensive for a room in a need of refurbishment. The mattress is worn, there is no any kind of shelf in the shower for your soap, same goes for the sink, only 2 coffee pods, the floor is squeeking, the windows drafty, only one chair, and no table as such.

2021-08-15We stayed here while hiking the Tupper Triad with our six kids. The rooms were way better than we expected! Comfy beds and a shower with actual water pressure. The boats, bikes, and swimming pool made this the perfect place for our family to stay. We loved boating the the local ice cream shop! The bikes kept the kids busy while we hung out in Adirondack chairs on the porch.I called ahead and spoke with Joy who answered all my questions and was a literal joy to work with. A pleasure all around!

2021-08-18Positive: The location is great. The lake is just feet from the rooms and the kayaks and bikes and other sports equipment are right there to use as you wish. There are many hikes close by and McDs and Dunkin are within walking distance. Negative: No microwave in room to heat up left overs. Also, no tea. There are little K-cups available in the ice room, but we all know that makes the tea taste like coffee. A hot pot or microwave would have been useful. Bring your own if coming up.

2021-09-29It was very nice. We had a very relaxing stay. We took advantage of the free canoeing across the lake, sitting outside and enjoying the views. The beds are super comfy. Will definately stay again!

2021-07-26Not a bad place for a base camp or place to rest your head after hiking. The beds were good but for what we paid, we are a family of 5 so we had to get 2 rooms. I with a kitchenette and 1 lake view. Our lake view was basically just a view of the back of a line of 20 boats in a marina. But we were lake front! And a good spot to launch a kayak or canoe (which are free to use if you are staying). The biggest down side was the fact that we couldnt close our bathroom door with out slamming it as hard as possible. Our front door was the same way? Becareful of the shower as it goes from ice cold to Spaulding hot over and over again in a 5 minute shower. Awesome area and a lot to do so we were busy for most of our stay.

2021-10-05Positive: The location was excellent and the staff were equally excellent. Negative: The room was exceptionally clean but the bed mattresses were not as comfortable as we usually receive at a 3 star hotel. But overall we agree with the 3 star rating.

2021-07-12An older place but clean and reasonably updated. Friendly and helpful staff. Excellent location for lake access. Bathroom was very small.Pros:Plenty of kayaks, canoes, paddle boats, available to use, launch is yards from your room.Wonderful view of sunsets over the mountain from northwest lawn, numerous Adirondack chairs to relax in.Lots of Keurig flavors to pick from, just pop into the office and grab a couple.A few different restaurants in walking distance (check hours though!)Few minutes from downtown Saranac and Lake Placid.Cons:Bathroom in our room (standard room, lower level) was pretty small, maybe 3x7 feet? One step out of the shower and your floor will be wet for all later visits.Sleeping 4 in two double beds (standard room) doesnt provide much room to turn during sleep.Doors were a bit sticky, need to get carpenter in to reframe.
