Gebhards was great! Enjoyed a few bar snacks and a couple rounds of drinks! The pretzel was a little hard but for a bar snack was really enjoyable at the time.Beers and drinks were all tasty. It of course is a preference thing when it comes to beer but order what you like and maybe try a new one as well.Come for trivia, grab a score card, and enjoy an evening of trivia as you drink your beers!!
As should be obvious from the name, this is a beer oriented venue. They have a good variety on tap and in bottles. I was also pleasantly surprised by how good the food is. Specifically, the tacos, but its not like I could try everything on the menu (though I wish I could). Anyway, I was going to write about the beer. The beer selection is excellent. Will definitely come back here next time Im in Manhattan.
Let’s start with the vibe and music choice— Gebhard’s demonstrates a vast and deep knowledge of underground and classic hip hop. From Atmosphere, Brother Ali, Big L, MF DOOM, Wu Tang and others, you will not be disappointed if you have an appreciation for incredible hip hop. Their tap and craft beer selection is second to none, really. They’re guaranteed to have at least 100 beers you haven’t tried yet, and you’ll probably fall in love with 99 of them. I can not recommend this place enough— and if I could give 10 stars I would. As a local, I was so happy when I discovered this place— and I’m here often... probably... too often.
They have a great selection of bottles and cans, but the draft line up is IPA heavy, like way too many other beer bars. We are always looking for big, malty options, which tend to be rare these days. Great space, the peeps were knowledgeable and friendly, and the nachos were quite respectable.
After a long walk through Central Park from 110th our group wanted to have a beer, a few snacks, and just to sit down. I ordered the garlic parmesan chicken wings which showed up very quickly and were delicious as well as very large wings. I tried pawning a wing or two off with the rest of the party but they were also having a hard time eating all of their orders which they both enjoyed a lot (sliders and breakfast tacos).Big portions, fast service, decent pricing, and a neat, rustic feel.
Great beer selection on tap and in bottles/cans and I enjoyed the bratwurst I had, but thought it was expensive for what it was. The beer is a little expensive too. Sausage, pretzel bun, sauerkraut, and mustard. Tatertots were tasty too, I think 12ozs start at around $6 and a pint is around $8/9. Closest competitor in the area for this type of place is probably Amsterdam Ale House, but the food here is probably more like gastropub quality.
Came here for a friends birthday party on a Sunday night in November. We had the whole second floor to ourselves. Was a great space with shuffleboard, darts, Jenga and other games! Im not sure how much it cost to reserve that space but it include party supplies, drink tokens and they let us use our karaoke machine and bring in a cake! Gebhards is not too big and not too small and had friendly staff. A good place to have a party for sure!
Im kicking myself for not having posted this a long time ago..... aside from being run by really nice people, Beer Culture is truly an asset in the neighborhood. They have a bottle menu that would easily be the envy of any beer bar Ive been to and the food is just stellar. My only issue at this point is that the rest of the neighborhood seems to have figured this out and it makes it kind of tough to find a seat on the weekends....Top marks in every category. Wish the Upper West had 3 or 4 more just like it.
A great local UWS draft beer bar in the neighborhood. They always have an excellent selections of brew, either on draft or in cans or bottles to choose from. Friendly and knowledgeable staff that will definitely find you a beer to your liking. Didnt get a chance to try out their food options but will most likely return to give it a try.
Fun space for excellent beers, including one made just for them by local brewery. Atmosphere is ok, but kinda dark with low ceiling, much like their times square location. Bar food is acceptable. Dont miss the game area upstairs, if you are in the mood. Thankful for a solid neighborhood spot.
Excellent staff friendly and knowledgeable as well as a great selection of beer and food.Bartenders are nice and talkative great place to hang out and their pints vary in cost from 6-9 dollars. They have also added liquor to their establishment which finalizes the true bar experience.
If Im grabbing a beer in Manhattan, this is going to be on the list. A well-priced, novella-length selection of brews in a comfortable two-storied environment. Only drawback I see is space, so get here early. The upstairs is a little small, but theres enough room for 10/12 at least. Love the outdoor tables.
Some friends and I were looking for a place to have a few beers after playing some ball and we came across this place. Nice lowkey spot on 72nd street in the Upper West Side. A lot of choices to choose from but I was most satisfied with my Guinness. Cheers to this place and will definitely stop by again. 👍🏾👍🏾
This will likely be our new watering hole. A great bar with great selection, hard to come by in this neck of the woods. Theres cool indoor seating in front with a sidewalk view, or head downstairs where its a bit darker and closer to the bar. Upstairs there are bar games (shuffleboard, darts) and it seems like you can rent that area for private events. My only small ding is that the stools are really high up and makes it hard to sit at the high top tables comfortably (Im only 55 and my knees were knocking the underside of the table). Regardless, well be back!
Excellent selection, but so expensive! $9+++ for a draft? Come on!Edit 1/21/19: Went back tonight. Wife ordered a chicken sandwich. I dont think Ive ever been served a smaller piece of chicken. $15 for that is just absurd. Gotta say, there are so many places to get a beer and a bite on the UWS. These guys just dont seem to understand that.
My tween daughter loves the burgers here. And so do I. They offer sides of potatoes in three forms: regular fries, tots, waffle fries. Their ingredients are high quality as evidenced by the first but into your juicy beef burger. Gebhards is a neighborhood joint with many micro brews available on tap and by bottle. Its also a decent hangout spot because there is a lot of space, darts, sliding sand ball game, tvs, and they might have a few other activities Im forgetting. This is a dive but not the diviest. Enjoy!
Seems like a dope place when I walked in. Great selection from what I could gather. Place wasnt packed, but I couldnt get service. 🤷♀️ Stared at a menu for about 5-10 before bouncing. Will be awhile before I have enough money to walk back in their door again. If I do. Theyz pricey. Theres no shortage of them types in the city. 💯🍻
Good beer selection, good food and a cool ambience. They have Wi-Fi and a couple screens for sports although its not really a full on sports bar. Staff are friendly. Recommended. Only downside is they sometimes run out of stuff on the beer menu.Note: they dont have liquor here. Just beer and wine. Mostly 🍺
How I never came across this great spot in the time Ive lived in the neighborhood is beyond me! I had been looking for an UWS pub with a large microbrew beer selection that also was laid back, more rock than hip-pop, had a good vibe, cozy but not dive-y. Beer Culture is that place! They have a good selection of board games and maybe (? ) darts too. Gebhards bar staff is friendly and efficient, they attract a good mix of patrons, and theres not gonna be a list or a rope of any kind. Its now my defacto neighborhood bar.My only caveat- a couple bucks too expensive per beer than I think its reasonable. Theres something off-putting shelling out $9 for a bottle of beer at a small pub. Maybe if it came with a little umbrella..They also serve your basic bar food which looked petty good but I havent tried it yet.If youre looking for a regular watering hole where soon somebody knows your name, this is it -- a nice break from the usual snooty UWS bars. Highly recommend!
This place was so good! Portions seem small but its worth it. My only complaint is that you can only order food and drinks with the bartender at the bar but there isnt a lot of space in the bar area and not enough bartenders. Otherwise the food was good and if you like beer, than you will find something you like
I was not a fan of the beer menu it was a lot more basic than is represented by a beer hall setting. Also it was difficult to figure out where to get a menu and where you could order because you had to order at the bar but the bar was packed with patrons sitting there drinking and eating. Not my thing
Went there a few days ago and let’s just say, was NOT impressed at all! The bartender Theresa was extremely rude and was chit chatting with another employee and acted as if she didn’t see me when I tried to get her attention. Will not be returning. At least Brian (another worker) was nicer.
My new office in the UWS. Awesome rotating craft beer selection, an expanded food menu, plenty of space, and bar friendly games (shuffleboard, darts, etc.) are some of the best reasons to stop in. The main reason is to hang with Matt and Pete who really know how to welcome guests into their establishment. Best of luck guys! I will be back and often.
Best draft micro and craft selection on the UWS, and so far has been the best in the city from my experience, but its a really big city. Also 216 types of bottles if youre super picky. The bar food is the epitome of what you want out of bar food. Poutine with the choice of tater tots or waffle fries to go with an ENORMOUS plate of nachos.
Serious beer bar. They dont serve light beer or Budweiser/et al. Probably gets complaints from tourists about that.Forgot to mention they offer takeout beer at lower prices than the stay in price. So if theres some hard to find import youre looking for that they serve, you can just buy it to go.

2022-05-22They have a really nice selection of beers to accommodate to all types of beer drinkers which I loved. We ordered chicken nachos and some friends ordered chicken tenders with fries and a Chicago dog and everyone loved what they ate. No complaints! This place is perfect for a casual hang with some friends!

2022-07-08Nice beer spot close to Central Park where you can sit outside. Beer selection is good. Many taps and even more bottles and cans to choose from, especially local NYC breweries. Some new beers and a lot of classics in the selection. Friendly staff and they have some (board)games you can play while sitting here.

2019-04-26Nice space, great beer selection, pretty good food. The front has a cool all-glass area if youre into sunshine and people-watching, while the rest of the bar is dimmer and more recessed from the street if youre a vampire. A little tough to get the bartenders attention even when there werent too many folks in there, but it may have just been an off night. Overall great spot.

2022-05-19Very poor service. Sat outside for 15 minutes and no one came to offer service. Went inside and the bartender said I had to order at the bar and take the drink outside myself, which I did. Five minutes later the same bartender came outside and served another table drinks and food. Very unprofessional. Finished my drink and left. Will never go back.

2022-07-02Service very friendly, beer is great. As of July 2022. Just FYI, the poutines a sorry excuse for the real thing. Order something else.

2019-05-23Stopped here for pre-movie drinks and grub.. conveniently close to the Lincoln Square AMC. The tots and sliders were excellent! Good beer selection, but pretty pricey drafts.
