Very unprofessional. Very abnoxious person. Dont know how to talk to people.Brought my unit there had it for 3 weeks. Try to get me to buy his. When I didnt he call my unit junk in from of my wife. He also try to instigate a fight with me.The next day I picked up my unit that he couldnt fix after 3 weeks he said he was sorry n feels bad.Dont know how is techs put up with him. Try to make up charges on my unit as he went along. I would NERVER NERVER RECOMMEND ANYONE..Do your homework before coming here.Read all the reviews
My parents purchased equipment from Gem and I’ve brought equipment used by other family members to them for repair. They have ALWAYS been friendly, kind, patient & efficient and shared realistic time frames as to when the repaired equipment would be ready. Repeating customer and i tried to make an appointment the person who answered the phone is extremely unorganized and disrespectful like just because you use nice words it changes what you mean... BUT he called me back to apologize and the appointment went well on 5/18/21 great deal and good services only thing i didnt like was that my caster forks were loose for no reason caster were rattling most of the way home
A reasonable and trustworthy merchant this is. I have had two scooters from them for my parents. They have been very happy with them. The merchant has done battery replacements and parts maintenance for us during the past 4 years. Nice and easy, all well done. Recommended!
The owner and his staff go out of their way to help you and to give you a fair price. They are very nice to work with! We even searched around Long Island and couldnt find a nicer place to buy wheelchairs. These people are FANTASTIC!
I had a emergency problem with my wheelchair because of NYC potholes that broke the frog leg suspension and they were extremely helpful to me and stayed open late to the job done, so I could get around, now that’s service. Great job. Gem you truly are.!
These guys are fantastic. At a certain age, you expect to get screwed in the medical field. NOT THIS PLACE. The are honest, they are helpful. They are knowledgeable. They are wonderful to work with. They took care of everything for my wife and I. Scooters, wheelchairs, you name it. They sell, they repair, they advise. I completely trust them. That is rare in the medical service field, but these guys deserved 15 stars, but I was limited to 5. Gem is a great company.
Always a speedy repair and always professional, Jeff an the staff always get the job done and are taking the proper precautions during a pandemic. Highly recommend for manual chair repairs.
I took a wheelchair to their store ,and told me the battery was the only problem, and after taking my chair back home the chair did not work, and when you try to get the person who works the scooters or wheelchair you can get to talk to him so you have to take the product back , and charge you another hundred dollars to find another problem . Its asham how people like these take advantage of individual who needs their wheelchairs or scooters.
Called to try and order some batteries for my wheelchair. His price was over double what I normally pay. Unfortunately I was considering paying his price because I needed it right away. The guy was so insulting and obnoxious that if he was the last wheelchair service depot in the world I would crawl on the floor. I just looked at some other comments and realized that this is the owners standard operating procedure. As other people have commented I wonder how this guy stays in business. he could definitely use some Dale Carnegie courses 😞
My mother suffers from MS and needs an electric mobility scooter to get around Manhattan. We have used Gem for several years, the first scooter we purchased was great, the owner even helped with working with the MS society to help with partial payment. He was professional, understanding of our situation and helpful. After several years the scooter finally fell apart due to heavy use and the batteries stopped holding a charge. So, we thought it best to get a new one. His prices are fair and I personally feel the owner is honest. Within 48 hours we had the new scooter delivered and the old one was taken away by a very polite delivery person. As for any negative reviews, it seems the reviewers are scorned, didnt get their way or they are just miserable. Theres a reason Gem has been in operation since 1951, its because they know their business.
If I could use negative 10 Stars I would. Im on vacation visiting my elderly grandmother, and I wanted to spend a day with her since Im in the military and am never home . I did have a lot of questions since Ive never rented a scooter before and they guy was extremely rude and even hung up . Never again . Hopefully no one has to endure a similar experience as I .
If i could give a zero star i would. The man that runs this place is the most arrogant, nasty, unprofessional, rude owner i brought my daughters inexpensive floor lamp for rewiring but wanted his employee who does the work to give me an estimate for repairs. This nasty man who i had just listened on the phone arguing with a customer demanded to know how much did my lamp cost otherwise to take it home because it was too complicated. Of course he takes the lamp charges an upfront fee of $60 which he keeps whether lamp is fixed or not. he ended his insults by telling me SCREW YOU! DO YOURSELF A FAVOR TAKE YOUR BUSINESS SOMEWHERE ELSE.
This is out best model. The Cougar 9000. Its the Rolls Royce of wheelchairs. This is like... youre almost glad to be handicapped.
Polite staff, slimy owner (Jeff) who refuses to return my power wheelchair to me after the manufacturer refused to pay for installation of new motors. They did pay for new casters as they crack. Jeff refused to charge Medicare/Medicaid even though he is an approved vendor. Medicare has been contacted.I waited 5 days for the chair. It had been taken apart and not put back together properly. Stay away from Gem at all cost.

ZERO STARS! I dont buy wheelchairs everyday and needed assistance in finding one. The owner claims to be trying to help but was rude, arrogant, extremely unhelpful and hung up on me! He said that hes been in business for over 30 years, how in the world does he stay in business?
The man that was there took very good care of me worked out a good price for a charger and basket I will be a returning customer
It is terrible no hygiene and disgusting store hours it does not take 2 wheeled scooters which is a shame would not recommend
I enjoy the service I was given by Jeffrey the owner and one of the gentlemen that worked there every question was answered and I walked away feeling like I was being taken care of by a family member thank you guys for caring

2022-02-19Very grateful to have found Gem so close to our home. Needed service on my mobility scooter, Jeffrey and his team serviced it while we waited, could not believe it…we were convinced that it would take days or even weeks. They have a huge variety of scooters and all sorts of medical equipment. Good to know, thank you for the excellent customer service⭐️

2022-03-24This review is long overdue...I was in a bind and needed a pediatric wheelchair. A rental company fell threw twice and we were running out of options & time. Luckily, Jeff had a brand new peds chair come in and was willing to rent it to us. He was so helpful and super accommodating. Will definitely be using Gem and Jeff for all my med/surg supply needs!!!

2022-03-05I needed replacement wheels for my wheelchair asap and Jeff saved the day! Jeff ordered the parts and had it next day air delivered to me. He also followed up with me to make sure everything was okay. I cant thank him enough for what was a stressful time for me. Highly recommend!!

2021-10-11We purchased the walker on line less than a year ago. Recently the wheel kept getting stuck not allowing it to move. The owner was very pleasant. He took the walker to the back and it was fixed in less than 10 minutes! My mom and I were so grateful. He didn’t even charge us! I will definitely be back when making the next purchase! Thank you!!

2021-10-22We visited the showroom looking to upgrade my wifes walker. Jeff showed her a number of options, however, all of them weighed more than the current basic walker and that prevented me from lifting each of them due to my physical limitations. Jeff suggested some changes to her current walker that would make it easier and provide more support to use. His staff was able make those adjustments while we waited.

2021-06-04Hi,I was in need of repair of two scooters and was not confident about how far they would take me. Well one was not worth fixing again the other was just in need of a battery. The owner was knowledgeable of many scooters models, and the distance they would go. He kept me in a very cost efficient way. He sold me my battery remind me how far I could go and It was appreciated. I want to Thank him and his staff for making my day and giving me more confidence about the scooter. 2021-03-09Gem has some of the best customer service of any business I have ever dealt with. Jeff was attentive, helpful and knowledgeable. I had a custom wheelchair made for my mom. He had a seat expert come and fit it to my mom. I highly recommend Gem for your wheelchair/scooter needs.

2021-08-13I got through to Jeff when I was looking for a narrow wheelchair for my mom. I had already reached out to a few places with no luck. Jeff understood my urgency and found 1 for me. The relief that I felt as soon as I heard that he had what we needed, is indescribable. Thank you, Jeff. I am sure a lot of people are comfortable because of the service they get from you.

2019-07-24The owner and his staff are excellent. They helped me carry my battery from the parking lot to the shop. They were very knowledgeable and helpful in every way. GEM Wheelchair saved my vacation trip. My old charger stopped working and the owner sold me a new charger that is twice as good as the original charger for a fair price. And the shop was open on Saturday at 9:00am. And they charged my battery at no extra charge even though I offered to add on the fee. Jeff is a real gentleman. My visit was worth 10 stars. I use the scooter on the plane too. Without the new charger my trip would have been ruined. Thanks again GEM Wheelchair & Scooter Service. Youre the best in my book.
