We discovered Genuine Woodworking while trying to source hand-built kitchen cabinetry locally, instead of expensive European imports. Steves shop fit the bill with state-of-the-art equipment to produce the quality of cabinet and finish we wanted. Ours is not a large kitchen compared to others, but it was a big investment for us. Steve was very professional in our meetings and communication, and supportive of our design ideas, including a custom color. From design to fabrication and then installation, his attention to detail was excellent, including his suggestion of a toe-kick drawer to store and hide my step stool, showing a knack for design problem-solving, too. We lived with our honey oak kitchen cabinets for more than 30 years and although we knew what we didn’t want in a kitchen - and what we did want - we were not able to envision how to make it work in our space. We were given Steve’s name and never looked further. He showed up, listened to what we were looking for in a kitchen and returned with a plan that with just a little tweaking, met all our expectations and more. Steve recommended we have the wall between the kitchen and dining room removed and his vision turned out to make all the difference in the world. Our kitchen is now spectacular with an open floor plan, lots of counter space, and cabinets I haven’t been able to fill yet! What I am impressed on a daily basis is the quality of the cabinets Steve made. They are perfectly aligned and the finish is smooth with just the sheen I was hoping for. The doors and drawers all close smoothly and you can tell the difference between the feel of ours versus the Home Depot variety. (PS: All the trades we had working on this Reno were referred by Steve and they were all respectful with careful with attention to detail.)So, as I sit here in my new kitchen writing this review, I recommend Steve highly and am now starting to think of when to have him back to look at our master bath cabinet!

From preparing the wood from trees that came down on my property to fabricating a gorgeous Murphy bed with built in drawers and shelving on the side, a built-in bookshelf and a wondrous credenza with raw-edge countertop and rising glass shelves for displaying artwork, my vision has been made manifest!! We recently had Steve reface our kitchen, the end results exceeded our expectations. The craftsmanship and quality is superb from the finishes to the design of the cabinets everything looks amazing. We went with a light grey cabinet color, white island and honey bronze pulls. It doesn’t even look like the same kitchen, we love our new kitchen. We absolutely love our custom mudroom cabinets and especially the integrated, reclaimed wood bench. The entire look is even more stunning than expected. Stephen was very easy to work with and so accommodating as we changed our mind about certain aspects. He helped us design the entire wall, invited us to his workshop to select the wood for the bench, and even came back after installation to attach different knobs since the ones we received originally from an online store were wrong. Steve assisted us throughout the entire design of our kitchen remodel, guiding us with samples from the numerous kitchen remodels he’s completed. I had asked Steve to make me a closet for my laundry room. Prior to this I had plastic shelving. Steve created an exceptional closet. It was for a small space, I couldnt believe how beautiful it turned out. I can fit so much in that closet. I was so pleased with the quality of the wood and the workmanship. I am a furniture maker with a small shop and needed to flatten a large epoxy river table. It wouldve taken me hours to sand the whole thing flat and I needed to get it done quick with a deadline approaching for the table. Steve helped me out and sanded the table with his industrial drum sander. It came out very flat and allowed me to finish the table in time. His shop is very impressive and so are his woodworking skills. Excellent service at a fair price!

Steve is true custom woodworker willing to find solutions for his customers. I personally designed a small bathroom vanity to fit a farmhouse kitchen sink and kitchen faucet. Every supplier, contractor, and architect who saw my plans said I was crazy and couldnt understand why I would want this. I wanted a beautiful modern bathroom sink that could pull double duty as a utility sink when needed. Its my house. Steve made it happen and everything was perfect. He even reached out to me when he was concerned that the final appearance would not meet my satisfaction. He put a lot of effort into this project even though its small potatoes for him. Now Ive got him working on some other silly thing...

We had a general idea of what we wanted but Stephen worked with us to design a hood that incorporated rustic reclaimed wood and matched the surrounding cabinetry perfectly. 2021-07-14Stephen did a fantastic job building a custom canopy for my fish tank. He came up with brilliant ideas that I never would have thought of on my own. The canopy came out way better than I could have ever imagined. I also had him build a custom cabinet for a mini fridge in my bathroom. Again, he designed a cabinet that was a million times nicer than I could have imagined! 2019-04-07Steve made our counter-tops, peninsula and a large desk out of quarter-sawn walnut with a matte poly finish, giving the wood a natural look. The end product is gorgeous! Steve was recommended to us by our contractor, after we had started a kitchen renovation. We had been considering quartzite, but mentioned to our contractor that we were looking for a material with a warmer feel. The walnut was perfect. Steve was a pleasure to work with throughout the process -- making helpful suggestions and sending us samples of different finishes on various types of wood cuts. He measured everything carefully. Once the cabinets were in, the fit of the wood tops hed created proved to be perfect, even contouring to hug the slight curve of a wall. The walnut is warm, rich and durable. We enjoy living with Steves work every day -- and our friends and family who have seen it never fail to comment on how beautiful and unique it is. We recommend Steve highly to anyone who appreciates fine craftsmanship.

2019-10-19After having our walnut countertops made by Steve, we starting looking for tables and couldnt find anything we liked that worked with the countertops (that wasnt a fortune). We sent Steve pictures of a table we liked and asked him if he could make one like it. The edge of the tabletop tapered in toward the bottom, the grain of the tabletop ran lengthwise and the tops of the legs were flush with the tabletop to create a contrast in wood grains where the legs were joined. Steve said sure, named a fair price and made a table that will be in our family for generations. As you can see from the pictures, his work is beautiful, natural and artful. We cant wait to host Thanksgiving this fall! We recommend Steve highly a second time around!

2021-04-16We wanted to update our kitchen and began the process of refacing the cabinets. I met with a few companies and found Stephen could make us all new cabinets at close to the cost of refacing with other companies, that were not offering real wood fronts.. Trying to keep the cost down I was concerned about changing the footprint, but his measurements were exact for our new appliances and the old layout. The cabinet quality is amazing, the material of the inside of the cabinets is also wood (not composite), the paint finish was pristine and the installer he used was courteous, timely, and cleaned up very well.
