The food took about 45 minutes to get the salads we ordered. The dressing required us to analyze the moisture on the lettuce to determine it was there. Some of the cheese had also been frozen. The spaghetti and meatballs had very chunky tomatoes with almost no sauce. The meatballs were pork and not super tasty. Even with the $3 extra baked parmesan on top the spaghetti, it wasnt tasty. The ravioli had some weird meat by it. My teen claimed she could make better from frozen. The sauce was garlic, oil, and butter.I went to the bathroom which had a sign on the mens stating: one person, coed, make sure to lock the door. There wasnt a lock on the door itself (or even a cheap latch). Just the stall door past the two urinals to hope noone walked in on me.On a positive note, the patio was nice in the darkness and rain. We didnt get wet at all (until we left to run the far distance to the car). Parking is limited.Overall, we werent impressed at all especially for a bill of $60. My teen needed McDonalds just a few hours later. She has a very good palette for Italian food so it was extra dissappointing.
The food was amazing. The warm bread and tapenade to start your meal is so savory. This place every time does not disappoint. Been going here for years as a neighborhood staple from me. The owner is warm and friendly. Food was delish. Speaking from an Italian woman in the service Industry over 10 years. This place is A hidden Gem!! Please support local and definitely check this place out! Mangia!!
We had a party of 10 and the service was absolutely Incredible Water glasses were never empty, the waitress was checking on us every few minutes. It was such a nice evening. Now the food... wow. We had shared many appetizers and our meals and EVERYTHING was delicious. There was a lamb chop app that melted in your mouth, a butternut squash soup so savory and decadent we wished that bowl was bottomless. Chicken Marsala was beautifully married with a fresh dusting of arugula . What a great uncommon combination to wake up that pallet. Excellent chef and service. Will be back and will recommend.
My husband and I were at Gigis tonight. I had clams over linguine.Just the best ever.Anthony had lamb chops with pasta. We had such a great dinner. Our waitress Reachal was top noch. The owner Maryann made time to come over to say hello and thanks for coming out. To all my friends and readers,if you want great food and a real nice experience dont look any more, this is it.
Consistently phenomenal food and fantastic service! Every Wed and Saturday you can enjoy live music. Mary Ann the owner is always a welcoming host and is a present face most nights in the restaurant. The patio in the summer is a nice touch and the bar is well stocked. Not many beer choices but cocktails are plenty and so is the wine.
Gigis is a nice place if you want over priced food, the staff is very nice and friendly to a point that they push all the before and after dinner extras. Drink selections were nice, bartender was very friendly, but the beer on tap was served in a 12oz glass no value here. All party members enjoyed their dinners but the portions were extremely light vs the cost. My advice is: to go down to street to any other restaurant unless you want to pay big city prices with no real value for good food. Come on restaurant owner, how about less price gouging, more product on the plate. FYI, I will never return.
The food is excellent and when DeeAnn Tompkins is performing you will want to make early reservations as she always packs the house. I love their lamb chops and their appetizers especially chicken livers. The salad and bread board is a must. Drinks are available and very tasty. Free and convenient parkingReservations are always recommended
Such a sweet little place. Food is fabulous, small but great ambience and the wait staff is very friendly and accommodating. Definitely plan on going back again!Updated: 9/25 Nightmare....made reservation for birthday dinner. Service was brutal, no plates, no napkins, 45 min to get our drinks, noone in the restaurant....very sad, last time we visited were very happy, left before getting entrees because everything was soooo bad. Avoid at all cost honestly. Family birthday dinner was a bust.
My family and I just finished dinner there. the steak sandwich is disgusting chewy and was not cooked properly. I have never had a worst steak in my life should be taken off the menu since they do not know how to cook it Our waitress Was very rude abrupt and would not listen To anything we said my father also got the steak sandwich he didn’t want cheese and they put cheese on it we were the three top table it was not busy there at all no wonder why, Whatever You do do not get steak The waitress was not going to take it off the bill Until we complained. It took her 15 minutes to come back with the changed bill.
The food was decent but the service was awkward. They really seemed like they didnt know how to handle simple requests, the outside patio wasnt set for dinner, there was no music on inside so the atmosphere was really uncomfortable. Our server was new so I wont put too much weight on that, we all start somewhere.Their shrimp fritters were outstanding. I dare to say better than mothers. The chicken pastina soup was awful. Very sour. The cod entree was delicious and though I had to really fight to get them to let me order the carbonara as a side, it was delicious too. My date enjoyed the chicken parmesan also. Some small service tweaks and this could be a really outstanding little find.
I am not so happy with this place. Its good food and a nice atmosphere but the menu isnt great. I just think that for the price you could go else where. There for Valentines Day service was excellent. One of my sides was bok choy in an Italian Resturant that is supposed to be authentic. I have been to Italy not even close .When we left we said we would have been happier at the Olive Garden. I give 3 stars only for the nice staff.
I hadnt even heard of this place until the Living Social Deal came out, so I figured I would try it. My husband and I went on a Tuesday evening, as we arrived I noted how adorable the place is on the outside, both the back and front entryways are decorated with care. I also saw an outdoor patio area that would be fun in the summer. We went in the front entrance. The place is not huge but has ample seating for its size, without being crowded. It is decorated with muted, eye pleasing warm tone colors. Our server had nice things to say about the wine we selected. We didnt order any appetizers, as I expected bread, this being an Italian restaurant and all. My salad came, still no bread....despite seeing the two other seated tables had bread. Our meals arrived and I finally asked if we were supposed to get bread. The waitress said yes Im sorry, Im having a problem with that this week. We laughed it off, but then when she brought the bread back she said it seems like overkill to me anyway which made me feel like I was eating to much. Not exactly what you want to feel like on a nice night out. Other than that the service was great. Now the food. My spaghetti carbonara was absolutely outstandingly delicious! It comes in two portions, I ordered the larger, but I think I was given the smaller portion at the larger portion price, but I cant confirm this. I usually dont finish a meal but I could easily finish this one. My husband loved his spaghetti and meatballs, hand rolled meatballs and delicious hearty red sauce. We will be back, and I hope some of the kinks are rolled out next time. We will return to hear the jazz singer they advertized on a small sheet at the tables, that sounds fun.
What a nice surprise. We originally tried this restaurant to hear one-night vocalist, then fell in love with the food, cozy surroundings, and patient service. One can have an entire meal of just appetizers and soup of the day or choose an entree, with plans for a doggy bag because of generous portions. As one of the minority who loves chicken livers, I’ve found their caramelized appetizer to be haunting. Ditto for their cardoons or Caesar salad. This is not your typical “red sauce” establishment. If you like your food and decor to be comforting, with a bit of time travel thrown in, you too might christen this your “new favorite Italian restaurant.”
If I could put 0 stars I would. Nearly 3.5 hours later we just might be able to get our check from our waitresses. Ive seen kitchens crash because youre busy but there were only 4 other tables full. Now we did have a big party of 15. But we reserved ahead of time and had a separate section. Food was timed poorly and had the look of sitting on the oven too long. Things were under or overcooked. Nearly an hour and half long gap between salad and main. A dinner like this should never take this long. Bad job in the kitchen.
The husband and I met up with our friends for dinner here tonight. The husband had calamari and shrimp pasta with cannoli for dessert. I had the rice ball and chicken marsala and the afagano for dessert. Our friends had salad. Weve not been here before but I was pleasantly surprised. My one little quibble was that one of our tables was a wee bit wobbly and the chairs were a wee bit hard to sit on. Maybe higher chairs would be better. The food was of a very fine quality.Go and enjoy!
Last week I ordered a pasta dish called the midnight spaghetti. I was not impressed at all. I took it to go. I understand this is an olive oil based pasta, but the amount of oil in the dish was ridiculous and unappetizing. I also could not taste any cheese whatsoever if there even was any.... I tried to recreate the same dish the next day at home and honestly my pasta at home was better. Don’t know if I’ll try again since the price for the pasta was not worth it
I love that they temporarily opened up at the Northland. I was able to get there and get a taste (after a 2 hour wait). It was worth the wait to see one of the classic buffalo soul food joints back at it again. A lot of familiar faces who worked at the original location. Sad to hear they are parting ways from the Northland center. The interior is beautiful, artistic, airy and clean.
First time at Gigis and probably my last. Went with a party of 3. Service was painfully slow for less then a dozen tables and 3 wait staff. Took a good 15 min to even get water and longer for drinks. It was well over 30 min before our food order was taken. It was well past an hour before apps came out.The food was so-so. My wife had the chicken milanese which the chicken was tender and had good flavor but the pasta was bland. My sister in-law had the steak sandwich and fries which was good. I had the pasta carbonara and it was just terrible. It was swimming in watery liquid. It was covered in parsley, had no cheese flavor, and zero silky feeling you get with carbonara made with eggs, butter, and cheese as listed on the menu. The little bit of pancetta in the dish was soggy and had no taste. Picture/taste salty watery spaghetti with parsley and you have your dish. The few drinks we had where ok but pricey for what you received. The bread was homemade and decent but both the dipping oil and the olive tapenade where very bland and needed salt and pepper from the table to add flavor. We skipped on desert as we where already there for 2.5 hours just for dinner and had to leave.Overall I would give the overall food 4/10, service 1/10, and value for the dollar 3/10.
Excellent Italian options, nice atmosphere. I had the scallops and a beautiful creme brulee. The eggplant parmesan dish across from me was getting great reviews. Live music on most Wednesdays and Saturdays, I would return for tonights jazz artist Janice Mitchell. My waiter Jon was excellent, as was the hostess who took my reservation. There are a lot of nice Italian options in Buffalo, Gigis was right up there and the live music is a nice plus for me.
Me, my fiance and my parents visited Gigis for the very 1st time this past Sunday. From the moment we walked in until we left we were treated amazingly! Our waitress Kim was attentive and friendly. She was mindful of a large party that came in just before us and made sure our appetizer and dinner orders were put in quickly as not to be held up.My fiance ordered the stuffed banana peppers as his app. The peppers were spicy as you would expect, but the yummy cheese blend stuffing inside was a perfect compliment to balance the heat!My dad had a sampler that included a risotto ball that had the most delicious red based sauce and pesto that was out of this world! There was also an fried artichoke concoction that had some seafood in it that was also spectacular! My mom and I had salads. She had a beautiful ceasar salad and I had the house salad. Both were so fresh and tasty! Mine had the house dressing and I added crumbly bleu cheese, the combination was perfect!I had the shrimp scampi and a side of meatballs, which ended up being take home. I was thankful that I had something tasty later that night to remind me of our great experience at Gigis. My scampi was good. The shrimp and fettucine were perfectly cooked but the sauce was a tad bland. I added some extra prosciutto from my fiances entre and some parmesan cheese and this corrected that small issue. My mom had chicken masala which was also tasty. My dad had the italian sausage platter with rigatoni. He was very happy and said the sausage was superb! The highlight of the dinner was my fiances entre.... The ravioli. O. M. G. Magnificent!!! I was so jealous, but he shared so I cant complain. They were obviously freshly prepared and so delicious. The light sauce with prosciutto was so perfect. The waitress wisely suggested the larger portion size and I was so thankful for that!Overall our experience was incredible and we will most certainly be back. My only word to the wise is to let you know ahead that this isnt your run off the mill Italian Restaurant. The prices arent outrageous but this isnt the place to get a $6.99 Spaghetti Dinner special. This is the type of restaurant where they pride themselves on freshness, quality and service. All 3 areas were outstanding and worthy of every penny spent.Thank you for the memorable dining ezperience Gigis! Well see you soon!
We tried GiGis because we had a living social coupon for it. We made a reservation online and were sat before our time, which was nice. I happened to see the clock on the wall when we were sat and after 8 minutes, our waitress finally got to us. The appetizers were fantastic, reasonably priced and gave a good taste for the next course. If you order a prima plate, nothing accompanies it (they do not explain that). If you order a secoundo meal, you get a garden salad included. You can add Gorgonzola cheese to your salad for $1.00. The cheese really adds to the fresh house made balsamic dressing and fresh greens, cucumbers and cherry tomatoes. The prima Gondola cheese ravioli is a company/store bought ravioli, not fresh. For $16.95 I would not purchase this again. It came with 10 ravioli with youre choice of pomodoro (red sauce) or butter parsley. The chicken Marsala was a full chicken breast with a side of your choice of pasta or potatoes for $17.95. The chicken was moist and tender and generally presented well on the plate. Good price for the amount of food that came for the secoundo option/meal.The wine list is extensive and just ask your waitress about what you like and she can recommend something. The sangria looked delicious, though we didnt order it. Our waitress was Lauren, she was friendly and very attentive (once she came over to us). The other staff seemed bored or pissed off by their body language as they leaned against the walls waiting for customers to come in. There are two entrances to the restaurant. The actual hostess station is closest to the back entrance, in between the kitchen doors and the bathrooms. When waiting to be sat, you feel in the way as the wait staff goes in and out of the kitchen nearly running into each other or guests. If you come in the front door, hopefully the bartender is paying attention and ushers you to the back. Otherwise you will stand there looking lost because there is no sign saying to head to the back to be sat.I dont mean to a downer on this restaurant, the decor was nice and bright, the table layout uses the small space to its fullest potential without making you feel crowded. The food was good but nothing memorable that would make us feel we must return.
Oh Gigi, where do I start with your poor kitchen?Do I start with my burnt chicken parm, or the hostile glances from the wait staff after telling Id be paying with my Groupon. Yaknow, Groupon is a great way for struggling business owners to get their name out in the community and earn some positive repoir. So why the heck was I treated less than your standard customers? I felt shunned, your waiter shoved me to the furthest, darkest corner you had open because I had a facial injury; Guess you didnt want customers to be made uncomfortable by someone with a band-aid and some road rash on their face. Personally, the atmosphere was enough to make it so even if my chicken parm was not burned, I would not have been able to enjoy it. Never have I felt so judged and out of place at a sit down restaurant, and thats after dining at Tao in Manhattan. Gigi, your Cucina Povera or Poverty Kitchen, is a total disaster and Im ashamed to say I paid any money to come here in the first place. Ill never be returning and I personally make a point to warn anyone who mentions your restaurant about the abhorrent better than you attitude that everyone there seems to exude.Get it together.
Just...bizarre. Nothing exciting on menu. Had the one spicy dish on the menu. Penne and red sauce with...um..get this...banana peppers from a jar just thrown into the sauce. I think I had a drunk college roommate who made something like this once. But Im not sure he charged $16 for it. Overpriced and awful. Never again.
OK, Some major disappointments after anticipation was high.......Ordered (2) appetizers, Fried Cardoons were good, however Cardoons got lost in all the parsley ?? used in it (egg, cardoons, romano, salt pepper, breadcrumbs). Cauliflower Froggia was absolutely atrocious, might as well called it an egg pie with light Cauliflower , most every bite was egg, Cauliflower was tasteless ..Was hoping it was going to better or on par with mine, no chance........Pasta Carbonara was very good to save the day. Will go back, however will only order a slam dunk meal, no experimenting here.......
Excellent & knowledgeable server...inviting decor and music...Best Clams Casino in WNY which was definitely not expected in a Sicilian bistro...Finally a real homemade Chicken Caesar salad with actual Anchovies and restaurant made croutons.....Fantastic.....My wife loved her Lentil soup ..It was worth the trip just for the bread tray...Very very nice fresh made Peach & Blueberry cobbler...Reasonable prices....Will definitely go again soon to try other menu items...

2021-07-19We were very excited to try this place for the first time. We checked the menu in advance and everything sounded so good. I immediately told my friends I was absolutely getting the lemon tort for dessert. We were greeted and seated shortly after arriving. When we arrived we noticed there were two tables on the patio and 3 others seated inside that left shortly after our arrival. The restaurant is small, quaint, and comfortable with warm and inviting decor. Our server was slow returning with drinks and one guest ordered a blood orange mimosa but received a blood orange martini. However, our server was very pleasant so we didnt point out the flaw. We were not offered bread but we ordered appetizers of stuffed banana peppers, clams casino, and creamy tomato and eggplant soup. The banana peppers were undercooked and crunchy and lukewarm but the filling was cheesy and flavorful without being mushy. The clams casino were very good. The soup was creamy and flavorful and felt like home. Truly fantastic! We ordered spaghetti & meatball parm, midnight spaghetti, and penne arabiata. The arabiata and midnight spaghetti were brought out and our server said I will be right back with the spaghetti parm. 6 minutes later she came out with the spaghetti parm. We noticed right away the midnight spaghetti was quite small, it didnt even fill the bowl it was in. The spaghetti in the spaghetti parm was not drained well and I had a sizeable puddle of water in the bottom of my bowl which watered down the sauce on the bottom. Our server then asked if we needed anything else, we requested cheese, crushed pepper flakes, bread, and a water. She said we are all out of bread but I will get you the rest. When we expressed our surprise and disappointment, she said normally we serve bread and dipping oil when youre seated but we are out. I feel that is something you should lead with in an Italian restaurant. And why would the manager or owner not be out buying bread?? Perhaps Tops and Wegmans were also out. In any case, she brought the cheese and pepper flakes (no water) and very graciously offered to bring us a warmed pita. We said yes please and reminded her of the water. We didnt see our server again until we all but finished our dinner and she brought the pita. One piece was burnt (still no water). She collected our plates and asked what dessert we had our heart set on. I declined and am embarrased to say I was a little snarky when said I was afraid it would be one more thing to disappoint me. She maintained her composure, apologized and said she would bring the check. In summary, our server was kind and courteous, I appreciate she cannot help the timing or ability of the kitchen staff, everything had good flavor, the meatballs were sizeable, presentation was average, and drinks were quite strong. I feel for the level of service and presentation they should be ashamed to charge the prices that they do. I am glad I tried them but there is so much room for improvement.

2022-06-04Food was affordable but still very good. I split an appetizer with my fiancee and had leftovers from my entree so the portion sizes were also good. All in all a pleasant night

2021-03-18WOW! Had a curbside pick up for our St. Joseph’s Table meal. Thank you and what wonderful food. All the food was packed up well and safe. Everything was great, I can’t say the names of most of them, but they were all so very good. Didn’t get a picture of the desserts, we ate them to quick. They came right out with my order and right into my trunk. It was all paid for ahead of time. It was a pleasure dealing with them. They do offer inside dining but I went with the pick up. I will try my best to return more often.

2022-01-05I chose Gigis for a private family celebration of my mothers 90th birthday. We had a group of 25 people, the party included a cocktail hour as well as a sit down dinner. Since our group was too large for Gigis private room, Mary Ann Romano (the owner) let us have the raised section of her main dining room, which was a perfect size for the affair. I cant say enough good things about every facet of the planning, the quality of the food and the service!! What a wonderful time we had!!! Absolutely everyone enjoyed themselves, and our wait staff (Rachael and Sarah) made everything go as smoothly as we could ask for. I highly recommend giving it a try!

2021-11-08Food was terrible! Had the chicken parmigiana with pasta. It was cold, bland and worst part was water at bottom of plate from pasta not being strained properly. So when waitress asked how everything was I showed her my plate and told her food was cold her response was “Oh really ??” and she walks away. Way better places in Buffalo to get Italian food.

2020-09-04We ordered takeout on a Friday night and got the fish fry, Calabrian chili garlic Parm wings and the fig pizza. Everything was delicious and I might even say it was honestly the best fish fry Ive ever had. Panko breaded, crispy, the fish itself was great and it was cooked to perfection. The fig pizza was amazing and the wings were nice and crispy and really good. I think this place is a hidden gem in Kenmore. Even the woman who took our order over the phone was really nice and personable. So happy we tried this place and plan to eat in next time.

2021-08-14Food was terrible the stuffed peppers were under cooked and they were not stuffed. They had melted cheese on them with an empty pepper. The chicken parm was sitting in a bowl of watery sauce- even my 7 year old noticed but not the kitchen or server. The server was annoying and you could hear everything she was saying to the bartender. Only good thing was she took it all off the bill.

2022-06-25Terrible food I returned 3/4 of each 3 courses plates...I never did this all over the world where I ve been. Service let s say OK some waitress are heavy smokers and you can feel this ...music on a Wed was a joke better find another place ...dont waist money here.
