This place delivers pretty good Italian cuisine experience for not high prices. The outside seating is what I would recommend this summer. Vibes are good and we will be coming back for sure since it’s close to the home. Staff is friendly and caring and always willing to repeat the specials. Thank you
Delicious food with a lot of options (and vegetarian friendly)! Their cocktail drinks are a bit too sweet for my taste so just take that into account when ordering (or ask for no simple syrup).Super attentive servers and waitresses. Lots of outdoor seating and a great vibe close to Prospect Park West. They had live music when we went on Friday evening and it provided a great ambience while we had dinner.
Ive gone here at least once or twice a month since Ive lived in the area and its one of the things Ill miss most leaving. Their food is always amazing and you really cant beat some of the pricing. Mondays half off wine bottles, the Pranzo Dinners during midweek, and especially the bottomless brunches on weekends. Definitely my favorite Italian eatery in NYC
I love this restaurant.. the food is always good. The service is attentive without being pushy and servers hanging around all the time like creepy stalkers. They checked on you frequently but left you to enjoy your meal. And the meal was DIVINE. Its a neighborhood restaurant so expect the residents to reflect the diversity (or lack of) in the neighborhood... but Ive never had an issue there and they are warm with all the guests.. on the Saturday i went to brunch there was a live jazz band. Nice stuff . Where can you get a 2 course brunch for 18.95? And the food is FILLING and DELICIOUS
We were there with my husband because found this place on google with very good opinion. Waiter was not to nice but food and wine was very good! Like for us portions was little to small but was soooo delicious. We ate bruschetta, Aglio e Olio and pasta with vodka. For start we get olive oil with bread and this was delicious too. Very good price like for this quality!
Treated my husband out to dinner today. We came across this place. Its cute and cozy staff is very welcoming. We had the garlic bread as our appetizerwhich was good . I had the chicken parm with spaghetti it was a descent size but I was a bit disappointed because my chicken was hard every bite, My husband had the penne vodka w/ chicken he enjoyed it except he would of preffered a bigger portion. Not a fan of the taramasu but the presentation was cute. Overall it was a nice place and the food was good except for the chicken.
I came here for the first time yesterday for brunch because of all the rave reviews I read about this place on Facebook. I was surprised that the place was pretty empty when I walked in. It was probably because they just opened up. They have a pretty impressive menu and prices are very reasonable for the amount of food that is given. The only thing that I had a slight issue with is the Bloody Mary that came with my meal. Dont get me wrong, it was very tasty, but it seemed to lack in alcohol, which to me is the most important part of a Bloody Mary. I figured the drinks have to be a bit mild during brunch since the waitstaff keeps refilling your glass throughout the meal and they dont want people drunk early in the morning. My waitress was very friendly, bubbly and attentive. The restaurant itself is very clean and pretty. The food came out quickly with no wait time and it was really good, but it just needed a tad more salt. The bathroom bagno is also a bit on the dinky side. Overall, I enjoyed everything and look forward to stopping by again for a quick bite.Edit: I have to add an appendix to my original review since I have dined here several times since my first visit. The food and service is absolutely outstanding. I came here again for brunch and for dinner. Everything I have eaten was utterly fantastic. Even though we are in the middle of a pandemic and we have to eat outdoors, you feel comfortable with your surroundings while you eat. I will continue to support this wonderful restaurant. ❤
I am not gonna bore anyone with an anecdote of what led us to go there. Ill straight to the point.I had the easiest dish in the menu, the Spaghetti Pomodoro Italian Sunday Style (Meatballs, Sweet sausage, and Burrata) my partner had the Chicken a la Giovannis. My Pomodoro pasta was absolutely terrible! And the food runner only brought the pasta, no meatballs or cheese and when I asked him he was very rude and even yelled at me. He said thats what I ordered and thats what he brought. The waitress, a very sweet girl, apologized for the mistake, she said there was a glitch in the system when she put in my order and that she was gonna fix it and send out the correct order. She did. And well, it was just as bad as the first time, if not even worse. The taste of the meatballs was bad, and the whatever the cheese was, wasnt burrata, but it was very smelly and had a bad taste and was as grainy as hummus. I couldnt eat it. On the other hand, my partners chicken a la Giovanni was very very delicious. He shared some of it with me because my food was such a fail. The server was aware of how awful the food was and how I couldnt eat more than one or two forkfulls and she still put it on the check, I asked her if she thought that was the correct thing to do, she seemed very confused about what to do, but went back to ask to a manager or the bartender, and they finally took it off the bill. Maybe she was new. All in all, 2 stars because half the food was a fail and half the service was horrible.
Where do I start?? Service was mediocre at best: waited forever for our drinks, no wine glasses for our bottle and took former for our water to take our order. Food is okay but do I really want to wait 45 minutes for my appetizers? No thanks. Giovanni’s bk eats is not worth your time or money.
I was headed home after dropping off a closing check at my office and was looking for a place to celebrate another home sold! Great Lunch Pre-Fix menu, $14.95. The spinach salad was a great app and the rigatoni w/4, cheese sauce was delicious. My daughter enjoyed her spaghetti too 😁 We had enough for leftovers. So dinner is already covered.
Great food with a laid back vibe. The restaurant is more cafe style & includes a bar. Our waiters wine recommendation was excellent. The gnocchi with sage & butter sauce was very flavorful. The bucatini casio e pepe was decent. A little too thick for my taste. The same sauce would go much better with fettuccine. We ordered the Tiramisu for dessert & it was absolutely delicious. One of the best I have had in NY. Overall good italian food & great service.
Absolutely delicious, authentic Italian food!! We sat at the bar to eat, but Damien (the bartender) took great care of us. We started with Bruchetta (pictures) for an app. I had the Sunday Dinner with Spaghetti (pictured) and my wife had the Mussels and Shrimp with risotto. We finished with a cannoli. Needless to say, all plates went back to the kitchen empty as everything was fantastic! Giovanni also was friendly, checked us on often, and gave us a “shot” of moscato after dessert. Highly recommend!!!
This is my first time eating here, after a friend of me and my husband invited us. My first meal was the penne a la vodka, while my husband had the beef lasagna. We both liked it actually. Wish I had photos to show him finishing the whole plate! 🤣 But overall, the food was really good. Would love to come back here again if possible ☺️🙏🏻
This was my 2nd time here although it’s been a few years but I don’t recall the food being so tasty, the staff was friendly and courteous which gave a very family oriented vibe, also there was live music so I’m not sure if they do that every Fridays but very good ambience I will definitely revisit another day.
We saw this place being crowded every night so our expectations were probably a bit higher. The food is not bad but there are better Italian restaurants in the area. Prices are surprisingly lower than average and the service is good. You can only make reservations for parties of 8 and above which is strange.
I can’t compete with the pictures, and the food was good, but the portions were not too big. Also, the calamari appetizer was chewy and undercooked, as the entire table thought. The bread for dipping was also pedestrian. But the service was excellent and for a neighborhood quick dinner, it was fine. I had the lasagna and it was very good, my spouse very much liked the eggplant parm, someone had spaghetti in garlic (?) which she loved.
I’m not sure how this place has 4 stars. Our Christmas Eve dinners were TERRIBLEFIRST OFF THEY DELIVERED 30 minutes AFTER the time we specifically said ( 3 ) timesWe asked for bread and they said they don’t do bread but they will do it for us - THAT DIDNT HAPPENFood came cold & under cooked.Plenty of other GOOD places aroundFirst & last time for us with this place
The food was okay. Chicken seemed very tough. Upon arrival we were asked about reservations (which we didnt have). Were told all tables inside were reserved. Sat under the tent and froze. Very disappointing to see most of the empty tables stayed empty while we ate outside. How long do you wait for people to show ???
The short ribs were delicious and a bargain. I enjoyed the drunken meatballs as well. The lasagna was ok, the noodles were too soft. The side of roasted cauliflower was pretty bad, and the broccoli rabe meh. The diet coke tasted off. Service wasnt great, our waitress was servicing people inside and outside which split her attention. We didnt get checked on for drink refreshes, and had to wait to get our bill. I ended up not ordering dessert as I didnt want to wait any longer.
First time here, met up with a couple of friends. Was looking forward to it all day but was disappointed in the servings. Ordered fried calamari and was litterally the smallest order I have ever seen. Literally 6 pieces! Had the penne vodka, it was good but also small portion.
Ate here for the first time recently and wish I had discovered it sooner. The food was all amazing, especially the lasagna. Service was attentive and the restaurant had a great atmosphere. They had live music the night we were there and it was fab, not too loud for enjoying your meal and chatting but added to the great vibe of the place.
They did an amazing job at accommodating our party of 20 people for Saturday brunch. Everyone was impressed with the quality of the food and service and loved that they could choose 1 appetizer and 1 entree + have bottomless mimosas and bloody Marys. We were surprised by how reasonably priced it was, and we felt comfortable and welcome as a large party. They sat us at one long table near the bathrooms where we had more space but could still hear the live music. I would highly recommend this for large parties, but it also seemed like a great place for a date or family meal. Their weekend brunch deal is awesome for Park Slope so I look forward to coming again!
Food: Delicious (their sauce! 😋😍)Portions: Depends on dish. I ordered the eggplant Parmesan that comes with a side and did not finish my meal. My boyfriend only ordered their lasagna and could have used a side.Service: AttentivePrice: Very reasonableAtmosphere: Great outdoor and indoor optionsCovid accommodations: 👍🏻dividers between tables indoors, outdoor option, hand sanitizer at host table, temperature of all guests, contact documentation
Nothing but good things to say about the food & service . . . all excellent. My one complaint is that they provide a promo code on their website for delivery orders, but when I entered their code: GIOS10 on my last delivery, it was not accepted and upon my calling the restaurant, they did nothing to compensate for their tech glitch. If you’re going to offer a promo code, make sure it works!
Our food came 45 minutes late. It was cold, so we heated it up, which wasn’t so bad, but they didn’t send us any bread! Crazy! A full on Italian meal with no bread!? Really!Food was good but we really missed bread to soak up sauce and have with our salad. Happy mother’s day to me. 😕
The food was very good. The atmosphere was pleasant. The service was real good though the waiter didnt seem to be very knowledgeable about the ingredients in the food for allergy purposes. Overall it was a good experience. The lunch special was very cheap and pretty tasty. They automatically add a 20% gratuity if you are 4 people or more.
This place is great. The spaghetti with the Italian Sunday was incredible. 2 meatballs and a sausage. Delicious. And the cream/spinach sauce dish was incredible. At a glance it looked like pesto but tasted incredible in a way like no other cream sauce Ive had before.Got delivery, was fast and fresh and hot. Will order again.
ECCELLENTECelebrated birthday dinner here with family and enjoyed the whole experience. Excellent staff, comfortable atmosphere and superb food. Attention to detail and customer service put them over the top.Wife wants to make them a regular place to come too. Thank you for an unforgettable evening.
I used to eat here with friends and for family birthdays before they renovated/expanded the restaurant. Hadnt been there in a while, but had an appointment nearby and was looking for somewhere to eat. I was pleased to see the restaurant had been beautifully renovated, during which it looks like they doubled the size. It is now spacious and beautiful, you feel like you are in Italy! The food and service are both AMAZING! Also, the prix fixe lunch was fabulous, I had enough food to take some home for another meal! When I am out and about by myself, I usually eat in self-serve places because I dont like sitting down in a full-service restaurant alone. But in Giovannis they are so welcoming, and so kind and friendly (the waitress even remembered me, and what I had ordered before), that I even enjoy going there alone. And, of course, still love going there with family and friends!
It was outside dining at its best! Richard the server was friendly and spot on when telling us the specials in detail. Service was prompt and accurate. The food was DELISH! We had for starters; Bietole - roasted beets w sherry vinaigrette walnuts & goat cheese, baked clams, parmesan fritters - smoked ham mozzarella & parmesan cheese, Carciofi - artichoke spread & shaved parmesan cheese. Main course; Tagliatella spinach pasta w fresh rosemary chicken & mushrooms in a parmesan cream sauce, Bistecca alla Griglia - grilled shell steak served over garlic mashed potatoes & fried cipollini onions. All entrees were delish, served all together, perfect temp, cooked perfect and a perfect portion. Ive been there before and I will return. Thank you from one HAPPY and satisfied customer.
The food in this fairly new establishment is excellent! We have been faithful regulars since its opening. Limited but excellent and affordable wine selections. Pleasant surroundings, but a bit noisier than many other restaurants of similar size. Youll definitely enjoy your meals which are served by very attentive waiters and waitresses. You will not be disappointed!
Using my US Army IG’s rating experience, I would rate the all-Italian full dinner as Excellent—calamari as good or better than any other I’ve had, the pasta better than most, the fish as good as any other, and the Tartufo out of this world—maybe imported from Rome. My greatest praise is for the live music: an unbelievably haunting torch singer and clarinet string quartet (bass rhythm and guitars). Her voice style reminded me of Andrea Marcovicci in the legendary Oak Room of the Alconquin Hotel. For my own taste, the songs from the earlier decades of the 20th century brought remenisent tears to my eyes.
Was looking forward to try this place with my Italian American husband but this was not it. You know when you go somewhere and everything just doesnt go well? It might have been a one off for them but Im really not sure Id give it another try tbh. From telling us we couldnt pick from their regular menu at 3.15pm when their dinner menu is set to start at 4 (we are a family with 2 kids so bottomless brunch is not something we are looking for) Most Italian restaurants that offer a brunch menu in South BK will let you order from their regular menu as well by the way. Anyway, the brunch menu barely had anything to accommodate my vegan husband and my lactose intolerant self. We were told the fusilli with vegetables was the vegan option they had so my husband got those, and next thing you know there was cheese in the sauce at the bottom of his plate, but after I had asked for prosciutto with melon without cheese and honey and was brought only melon (they did end up bringing me a side of prosciutto when I notified them) he didnt feel like returning his plate and just picked from the top portion of his dish. Add to this that when I took my daughter to the bathroom the whole time a lady, who probably had 1 too many mimosas, was banging on the door like a maniac even though I screamed it was occupied and we barely stayed 5 minutes in there, I was just glad to leave and felt bad I dragged my family there to try this italian place that has very good reviewsEdit from 2* to 1*: The fact that someone would be spending energy explaining how they have a brunch menu so its our fault if we dont like brunch is ridiculous, unless you write on your front door ONLY BRUNCH UNTIL 4PM I dont see why Im being weird thinking I could be served something else than brunch, especially if close to nothing on that brunch menu is accommodating both my allergies or my husbands diet and its 3.20pm. Once again I can go on 3rd Ave in bay ridge and name drop AT LEAST 2 italian restaurants that would let me order from both their brunch and their regular menu. Now insinuating that 2 grown adults, 1 whos vegan and 1 whos lactose intolerant, dont know the difference between cheese and garlic is ludicrous. Your staff is the same that served me plain melon when I asked prosciutto with melon, how hard was that to realize that out of 2 items in a plate 1 was missing? Yet you are trying to diminish my review by insinuating we are lying or we could mistaken garlic for cheese. Goodbye.
This is our family’s favorite restaurant. This is where we celebrate birthdays, holidays, last days of school or just a night out with visiting family members. The staff is warm, the dinning room is sparkling, the food is fresh and absolutely delishous. Never a disappointment. Always a treat. Incredible value given the quality and quantity of the dishes. It’s perfect. The desserts are to die for as well, believe me.
The ambiance might not look like much, and the atmosphere can be loud, but the food is very good. Not your typical Italian dishes: I had short ribs with mashes potatoes and a finely chopped medley of veggies that complimented each other. Wife had an earthy dish of cubed rosemary chicken, pasta and mushrooms in a creamy sauce. Popular place that can get very busy!
The freshest ingredients will wake up your taste buds. Been here many times and its always delicious. The gnocchi were delicate, and very light with a delicious corn sauce. My husband ordered the seafood risotto and it was cooked perfectly. My favorite dessert is the tiramisu. I definitely didnt share! Thanks Giovanni.....always the best!
I love this place. Have been multiple times for brunch, lunch, and dinner. Great menu options at very reasonable prices. Everything Ive ever ordered has been tasty and the staff has always been friendly. The brunch special is definitely worth it; good food (including two courses) and all-you-can-drink mimosas and Bloody Marys for a price in the $20-25 range. Definitely one of the better brunch deals in the city. So glad this place is in my neighborhood. 8th Avenue can be kind of a quiet street, this place is definitely a hidden gem on it.
You want me to write something, ok.Worst meal Ive had in years. Terrible food and service. Fish still cold inside, obviously frozen vegetables, over-cooked pasta. So amazingly bad that I actively wish this place would close so I dont have to walk by it all the time and be reminded of one of the worst dining experiences of my life.
This is the BEST restaurant! We love it!! Giovanni is such a great host and makes us feel like we are part of the family having dinner at home. Janet is a fantastic host as well! All of the staff are wonderful and very attentive. Everything about this restaurant is perfect. Food, specials, wines, music and staff are the reasons why we keep going back! Joe C.
The restaurant is small and cozy the atmosphere is great. We were a large group and had no problem getting a table. The food was fantastic. The meatballs as appetizers were great as my wife said they taste like her grandmother use to make.As the main course I had veal santalbucca with a side of spaghetti. The veal was out of this world. The spaghetti was aldente it had beautiful tomato sauce which was not running. For dessert I had cheese cake which was very good. The staff was very friendly and efficient and the prices are quite fair. Im going back again I recommend this to anyone who loves Italian food to go and eat their food.
The food is great! Now, let me tell you about the service... I usually eat brunch here but decided to have dinner delivered from here. I was supposed to pay in cash. I forgot and the delivery guy gave me my food and ran off, so he forgot as well. I received a voicemail from the chef himself threatening me.Very low class behavior.Obviously I will never order nor take my friends to have brunch here ever again.
Our experience at Giovanni’s was wonderful! The food was all fresh and delicious. Portions were perfect size and well executed. The photo shows our order of baked clams and fig and ricotta bruschetta. For dinner we had the bucatini with ricotta and black pepper and the arugula salad (so simple and so delicious). We are looking forward to our next trip to Giovanni’s!
I used to love this restaurante - close to home, an Italian staples in the neighborhood. However, not only I was 9 months pregnant, they made us wait for our food for over 1 hour, when it came it tasted like nothing, so bad I returned it to the kitchen. Only one person from our party enjoyed his meal (we were a group of 5). Very very disappointed. They had live music, but hey, I wasnt there for the concert, but for the food that I ended up not having.
Excellent place for brunch. We just had a party of 15 here for lunch/brunch.The entire brunch was fantastic. The selections were plentiful and the mimosasand other drinks were great. The staff was friendly, quick to serve and professional.Nice warm atmosphere sunny and bright. The spinach salad and melon with Italian ham were delicious apps. The main courses we were impressed with arethe eggs Benedict, pasta with veggies, pasta with sausage in a red sauce, and the eggplant panini. We ordered dessert that topped off a great meal tiaramisu cake plus Italian coffee. This place is a keeper on my go to list. Will return soon
Been here a few times now, something I can’t get over is how perfect the portions always are! Terrific food, the specials are always delicious. Love coming in for the half off bottle of wine special. Friendly staff as well. I don’t usually go out of my way to write reviews but this place really is wonderful!
2/26/20 - REVISED REVIEWI would like to update my review from only three days ago. I originally gave Giovanni’s Brooklyn Eats a 2 star rating, but have since decided to revise that to a 1 star rating. The reason for the change is whomever replies to reviews (whether it’s the owner or manager) has no respect for their customers nor their opinions and replies by insulting the very customers that have spent their money there.Everyone and every place has an off day here and there, but the responses they give to the reviews reflects who they really are and the service they give.I hope more people read my review as well as all the reviews, and they see what and how Giovanni’s Brooklyn Eats replies to their customers.***********2/23/20Pricey with small portions. Food ok, but not worth the price. You leave feeling hungry. My son was still hungry.
Great spot for authentic italian food. The venue recently expanded to accommodate double the amount of guests. It has a stocked bar with a basic variety of bottom to top shelf spirits. You can eat at the bar sometimes if its super hectic, but Id recommend sitting down as itll be more comfortable to converse with party members.
HORRIBLE HORRIBLE SERVICE!! Went for brunch and they have no half and half for coffee. They do not refill your coffee they want you to oay for each cup! We had to negotiate getting more coffee! They never cleared the dishes from the first course so we had to actually pick up all the dishes and bring them over to the counter! Mind you this is all while the rest of the waiters staff was actually sitting down having their own breakfast. They gave us bread that was not toasted and then they just abruptly came and took it away. When we then asked for butter they gave us only three pieces of butter while we had 4 people at the table. My mother asked for toast with her scrambled eggs and they said they had no toast. So we suggested they simply toast the bread on the table to create toast. They looked baffled as though we had just split the atom! While one of the members of our party was still eating with her fork in hand, the waiter came and just pulled the dish away from her! The food is okay but the SERVICE IS ABSOLUTELY HORRIFIC‼️‼️‼️For that alone we WILL NEVER RETURN ‼️‼️‼️‼️‼️‼️‼️To the owners response:You are not at the caliber of any restaurant you don’t even come close to a diner, which is pretty bad. I have gotten better customer service at a drive through‼️ As far as your staff not being able to make toast, you must be joking, right? A 5 year old can make toast‼️
Overall a great home style Italian dinner option in Fort Greene, Brooklyn, the dishes are all very reasonable in size and price. The food was outstanding and the staff were nice and knowledgeable of menu options. They have outdoor seating available fro warmer months.Pros: Monday only - 1/2 bottled wine prices
Eaten here multiple times... great food and service, fair prices. However, today they decided to sneak in a 4% surcharge for credit/debit cards. Nothing indicates that, and they billed the surcharge before knowing if I was paying cash. This is a sneaky price increase. It would be better to raise menu prices and offer a cash discount.
I am so sad that the food gets worse and worse. Had to even send the wine back (was old and rancid). The Bronzino special smelled like it was yesterdays fish which was overcooked I think to make up for the lack of freahness. My husbands veal milanese was more milanese than veal and my daughters pasta dish was cold. I dont usually write these kind of review but am hoping that Giovanni wakes up and gives this community the type of restaurant that it deserves.
I really want to like this place (its close and looks welcoming), but we keep getting disappointed.I could almost get past the fact that on our most recent visit the waitress was very unpleasant, and we scored the worst table in the (near empty) restaurant (next to their open kitchen [which in this case you really dont want to see inside]), but my big issue was that the food was overall very underwhelming.Bruschetta portion was embarrassingly small for the price (like 2-baguette-slices small), and both pasta dishes we ordered tasted like a hurried mix of flavors that neither fit together nor tasted good. For a restaurant with such high reviews I expected the quality and flavor of the food overall to be much higher.
Weve been going here for years - it used to a nice place. Now expanded dining room has really diluted the service. Our most recent visit gave us the slowest, most careless service weve received anywhere. The food preparation and presentation has gone downhill. So its Goodbye Giovanis for us. Too many good places to eat - we dont need servers with attitudes.
This place is phenomenal! The food is freshly prepared and delicious specials like gnocchi are mouthwatering. If you love pork chops your going to be in for a treat, Giovanni brings them.to new heights...oh and his Nonnas meatballs melt in your mouth so tasty & tender. Keep it up Giovanni youre truly a talented retauranteur and we love you!
This is a terrific spot. Weve been for brunch, lunch and dinner alike and its always very good and unpretentious with generous portions and attentive staff. The minestrone soup can not be beat, best Ive ever had hands down. Wonderful, old world-dark wood wood atmosphere, spacious and rustic.
It sure is a pleasure that Giovanni’s has stuck around since 2011.Restaurants in this neighborhood come and go, but Giovanni’s has a proven menu and waitstaff. The meatballs with the ricotta on the side were tender and excellent, and the spinach salad with pears has a wonderful combination of flavors and texture. The only issue with this restaurant is the same issue the whole neighborhood has, parking.
Was heading to a Mexican place around the corner, but it was closed on Monday. Giovannis Brooklyn Eats was on my list for places to try. They did not disappoint . The waiters were excellent and well versed on the menu items. Not too crowded of a space for Monday lunch. The hanger steak lunch and salmon with vegetable sides were both perfectly served. As were the fried calamari and eggplant with spicy marinara.Looking forward to a future visit.
Went for brunch today. Food was okay. Service was horrible. Our waitress literally stop serving us at one point. It was very strange. No water refill. We waited for our bill while she appeared to be checking her receipts. When we asked someone else for the bill, they mistakenly only charged us for two lattes instead of our 4 meals. We asked for a desert menu and waited for someone to take our order. Nothing. We paid for our meal and left. Gratuity was included in our bill since we were a party of four and we wondered if this was the reason for the lack luster service. The hostess did apologize, which was appreciated but we are not going back to this Reasturant. Too many other options..,
My Server made My guest and I very uncomfortable, it was my Birthday dinner... We tried to ask him questions he was very snappy and nasty, BUT!!! When the white couple came He gave them the full special menus and talked with them..we felt some way about it . at one point we was the only customers vin the restaurant,, I request to see the Manager , was told it was no manager, I felt Harrable and Miserable Embarrassed..it was my Birthday...
While the service was great and the staff was very friendly towards me, I wasnt blown away by this place. Extremely tiny. I could barely squeeze through the tables to get to the bar. If you want call it a bar that is. Could barely fit 5 people comfortably. I had to wait to squeeze into the corner that was covered with magazines and decorations. They should probably remove some of that stuff to accommodate guests. Especially on a busy night when theres a wait. I went for the lasagna which I was craving all day. I think I enjoyed it because I was hungry and its what I was wanting but it had a weird taste of Chef Boyardee which really bummed me out. Id still give it another try maybe at a different time of day and order something different though.
We went for brunch and had a great experience. Fixed price for one appetizer and one main course, based on whether or not you want drinks. The price is really unbeatable for the amount of food and drinks we had, as the main course also came with breakfast potatoes and a side salad. I highly recommend the ricotta bites and the eggs salmone, which was a fun twist on eggs benedict. High quality food in a nice space!
This is one of my top favorite restaurants. The staff is always accomodating and friendly; and the food is so good! The ambiance is cozy and warm. I always enjoy coming here for dinner with my loved ones. I would recommend this place for date night or with a small group of friends.
Was back tonight, with my husband and a friend, for the 4th or 5th time. Friendly, helpful service, fine ambience and great food. I had the bistecca with garlic mashed potatoes and frizzled onions, and my tummy is still smiling! Diners are never rushed, the desserts are wonderful, the portions just right, and the prices -- especially considering that its in Park Slope -- are terrific. A super, casual, happy place for a good time and a great meal!
I came here for brunch around noon on a Saturday, and it was almost empty! The brunch special is a great deal: $15 for an appetizer and entree, and for $19 you can get unlimited mimosas and bloody marys. Amazing! The portions are large, and the food is delicious. I had the beet salad to start, which made me feel like my brunch was a little but healthier, and the eggs Benedict. Next time, I want to try the more italian-style entrees! Overall, an awesome brunch experience.
Great food and great service, we went for brunch which was a really good deal - $19 for app, main, and unlimited mimosas or BM?! ($14 if youre not drinking) and the tiramisu was killer. There was a bit off a wait (@2pm it was 20min-not bad) to be seated but thats to be expected. We will definitely be back.
Went here for the 1st time this past year having walked and driven past it countless times and was VERY impressed. Here is why:1) Beautiful, eclectic decor2) Exceptional service3) Very reasonable prices4) Extensive, yet not pretentious menu4) High quality food5) Hearty portions6) Beautiful plating7) Warm, non-pretentious atmosphereI will surely be returning!
Growing up here in Bklyn, when I wanted good homestyle Italian cuisine I went to my nonnas kitchen. Going out or ordering in is what Italian Americans do when we dont feel like doing dishes. Luckily there are lots of great Italian places in BK, and I recommend many. Sadly, this place is not one of them. Tried it out for the first time last summer when family was visiting from Florida. The wait was long, but not outrageous, and the service was acceptable, though they were sold out of what I wanted, but honestly, for the price, the food was just agreeable and the portions meager. Thinking it was a fluke, my family and I decided to try them out again, and ordered in. Same story: Big bill, small plates, of ok food. The foods not bad, really. What little you get. But its just not worth the price. Especially when there are plenty of other Italian spots in the Slope, Dyker Heights and Bay Ridge where you get real bang for your buck. I realize the neighborhood has changed, but you still have working class people around here.
Went on a Wednesday night, we were a party of 7. Service is terrible, unless your a regular, in that case the waitress will stay at your table and chat with you while everyone else waits for service. We had to literally get up and go get the waitress to cone take our order, then she had an attitude, took our food order, was about to walk away before I had to yell her we wanted drinks. Food is definitely over priced and they have child size portions. Ive been here quite a few times, and it just gets worse each time. Plus they added a 20% gratuity on the bill. Which was never stated anywhere. Get it together Giovannis 😕😕
The food was below decent. The bruschetta was super hard and also not tasty except for the tomatoes. We had the artichoke bruschetta one too and it was cold and pretty gross. They wouldn’t take it off our bill. The pork chop was great but broccoli rabbe was bad. Everything else not good.
Giving it four stars for all the times in the past Weve gone there and were treated graciously - and the food is great!Would be Five Stars except for incident on my latest visit. My husband an I arrived and placed our name on the wait list to be seated. Waited twenty minutes then were told to wait an additional 10 which we gladly did... their hostess brought us in and was about to seat us until a fellow came to the table and said he couldnt split a four top into a two top. There was no one waiting to be seated and the place doesnt take reservations - so after waiting 30 minutes bright brought in then denied a table all we for was a sorry from the hostess and if we could wait some more theyd seat us as soon as possible - we said thanks but no thanks. Lets just say that left a bad taste in our mouths 😖
Had high hopes given the reviews but overall only fair. Food was very bland. Everything needed salt. My bucatini cacio e pepe seemed to have no cheese and minimal pepper. (Was that cream in there?) Husbands fish risotto was bland as well. Maybe it was my fault to order northern Italian dishes in a southern Italian restaurant. I would try again as its kind of in the neighborhood. Server was curt but efficient.
My husband and I visited Giovanni’s yesterday because I had a hankering for good Lasagna. I googled best lasagna in Brooklyn and Giovanni’s appeared. The appetizers were decent but my husband did not like how hard the bruschetta bread was. With that being said, I was so disappointed the pasta for the lasagna was so over cooked it was beyond soft, I did not have to chew! I am giving them a 3 star rating because my husband ordered the Pollo Picata which was good.
100% amazing every time! The bruschetta menu is amazing, we got the Traditional and it was perfection. In the middle of December the tomatoes taste like its the middle of july! The risotto with shrimp is to die for! Romantic environment fun for a date, it gets a lil loud at times so dont bring grandma and expect her to hear you.
Its fathers day and its very under staffed been here over an hour only got served bread and water and there running around like they dont know what there doing terrible if u cant handle the crowds then take less reservations and phone orders to serve the people at hand and space out reservations so the customer dosent suffer
Ive eaten here several times, and if I had reviewed the place following any of those meals, it wouldve gotten a 3 or 4-star review. I wouldve said that while the menu is fairly standard Italian, they do it very well. But then I ordered takeout last week and made the mistake of having the homemade Tagliatelle alla Bolognese, a classic dish thats on every Italian restaurant menu around the world. If an Italian restaurant cant make a good Bolognese, they got a problem. And Giovannis has a problem: the dish I received was nearly inedible. I stuck my fork into the homemade tagliatelle and it came up in one solid block, the noodles so flimsy and thin they were nearly translucent. When I finally took a bite, all I tasted was mush – waaaay overcooked pasta drowning in a flavorless sauce. After a few bites, it got tossed in the trash. What a disappointment.
On one of the few occasions my bf and I get to go out we started off with an artichoke “Bruchetta” it was awful and we got the pomodori instead... the only good part was the fresh baby tomatoes...the bread was like croutons ... also the eggplant antipasti was nearly inedible with unripe tomatoes covering it and little flavor to the eggplant...for our main courses although the bucatini was cooked perfect the sauce was very dry and unflavorful...his “special” pork chop was tasty but was served with inedible sides. Saw their Valentines menu that looked good but unfortunately after tonight’s meal We don’t plan on coming back.
The best way to go to any good restaurants is the word of mouth. So, when some of my friends recommended me to go there, I made it there last week. It is located in the South Slope by the subway station. It had great atmosphere, great service and awesome real deal Italian foods. The appetizer I had was the calamari and zucchini fritti served with spiced marinara sauce, and it was great. My entree was the homemade, al dente tagliatelle ai gamberi with fresh shrimp, tomato, and arugula in a light tomato sauce, which was also great. I highly recommend these dishes. I must try more dishes when I come back next week. They served Mahattan quality food with Broooklyn price (It is super reasonable price). I highly recommend this restaurant.
Awful service. Came all the way from Bedford Stuyvesant to south slope to try out their brunch as it was advertised on thrillist as one of the “best brunches in Brooklyn”. It was awful. Nobody greeted us at any point, we asked how long the wait was for a table and never got an answer. Asked if we could sit at the bar, the host, or whatever he was, seemed relieved and told us to just go. The seats at the “bar” were placed so that we would literally have our rear ends on the people at the tables’ shoulders. It was uncomfortable and weird. The bartender didn’t say a word to us for the 15 minutes we sat there. We didn’t get a water, nothing. As someone who has been a bartender for 5 years, I find that unacceptable. Pair that with the ice in the mimosas (what we saw prepared for tables) and dirty pitchers, it just wasn’t worth it. Terrible, will never be back. We ended up going to scottadito Osteria tuscana in park slope and it was amazing.Don’t think they want black people in here either, the vibe was very negative and uninviting overall. Would give no stars if I could.
So noisy we couldnt hear our server describe the specials or one another speak. Two members of our party ordered one of the specials, homemade pappardelle in a lemon cream sauce, which arrived with exactly two very small scallops on each dish. My lasagna was burnt. Yes, burnt. Not even sure how you burn ladagna noodles?! Half-price bottles of wine on Monday nights make this a populat spot, but head elsewhere for tasty and authentic Italian food. We wont be back.
Since Giovannis Brooklyn Eats came to the Prospect Park area my wife and I have had dinner or lunch there many, many times. Giovanni and the atmosphere are friendly and service is good. But, the food is superb. Especially the specials and the special hand-made appetizers sometimes with fruit and vegetables from Giovannis own garden. This man loves feeding people. And, when someone really loves what they do, they do it excellently. Thats Giovanni!
Terrible service, ok food, avoid if you can... we went for a birthday dinner, our very simple first appetizer came in 45 mins, the second arrived 15 mins later, the main courses came in a total of 75 mins. They were ok, if not bad. The place has a potential to ruin any nite of importance. So avoid it if you can...
Fantasic italian food at a reasonable price. Ive been here several times and never been disappointed with the menu items or the specials. The biggest downside here can be the waiting times - dont expect to show up during the evening rush and be seated right away. This is not the kind of place that I would travel great distances to go to but if you are looking for a local italian joint with excellent food, I would strongly recommend Giovannis.
Pulled in late on a Saturday night (about 10:15/10:30) and while they close at 11, they cheerfully served us some amazing Italian comfort food: pumpkin gnocchi with broccoli rabe and spacy sausages, eggplant parmesan, and true lasagna. Fantastic meal!We were going to pick up someone in an unfamiliar neighborhood in Brooklyn, and saw the lights in and the rumble of hunger in our stomachs, so we found a parking space (hard to do on Brooklyn streets at night) and got seated immediately (it was late, after all). Our server came up to us, got us settled, and proceeded to inform us of the specials. Our son choose the pumpkin gnocchi from the list, and my wife and I ordered from the menu. We all shared a beet salad with goat cheese and walnuts. Not out if this world good, but great-sized portion, and very tasty and fresh. The entrees came soon thereafter, and were absolutely amazing. The Pinot Grigio my wife had to go with dinner was a good choice. If you ever find yourself looking for Italian, its worth the visit!!
Mr. Giovanni,While on paper you may indeed be a restaurant owner, you seem to lack a few traits of a person who wears that title, (I guess, e vero che labito non fa il monaco); such as the ability to read patiently, logically, objectively so you can PROPERLY and ACCURATELY comprehend what has been written by the other party; such as appropriate (professional) communication skills while speaking to a customer. (LOL? Really? Internet slang language?). Id give a lecture on professionalism, but ...Nowhere in my review did I ever claim that I/my family were Italian. I specifically, repeatedly said my guests; from the beginning Ive said we are all EUROPEANS.I recommend you look up Istria; read books, learn more about the geography and history of your own country, before letting pride get the best of you and giving false/inaccurate comments.Ciao e buona fortuna! :)________________________________________**REVIEW EDIT, given I cannot reply to owners reply**Mr. Giovanni, it would have been professional from you to at least reply with facts and not what conveniences your tale.No one expected the appetizers to come at the same time as the entrees, nor did anyone complain about your policy of ordering appetizers and main dishes all at once. We were asked to order them at the same time IN ORDER TO AVOID the long waiting period, which ended up happening anyway.Had the food started getting prepared in a timely manner, the one additional appetizer wouldnt have impacted the serving of the main dishes by as much as it did. I didnt come to you, my brother did. And you told him/us that the meal was still being prepared and then proceeded with the this is not a fast food restaurant comment. That was quiteunprofessional. All it would have taken was an apology, like ANY OTHER restaurant owner/manager would have done because facts are facts : the food took too long to be served. It is true that it would take about 2 hours or so for a table of 9 to dine, but not when you have them waiting for long periods of time for food to be served (appetizers too). The evening fails to be as pleasurable. As far as my guests go, had you approached us/them even once during the dinner, you would have had the chance to appropriately interact with them and you would have learned that they are from Istria, a fully Italian region located in Croatia. They werent introduced to Italian cuisine as you were introduced to it while being born and raised in Brooklyn; they were born in it and are surrounded by it 24/7.Rest assured, I and my guests know a thing or two about dining , therefore, given that weve dined all over the world, we logically deemed the experience quite unpleasant. An apology (instead of an insult) for the food being late would have sufficed. The food might have been somewhat Italian, but the service was far from it.All the best,Alketa
The females waitress there was extremely rude food took forever mind you me n my family was the only ones there she took our orders but didnt take out drinks when i asked her can we order drinks she replied what u want im like excuse me what do u have she said soda juice water ok n what kind of soda juice do u have she didnt have the air on n it was so hot . There prices on food dont match the service and then she was looking for a tip .. so my husband wrote on the receipt under tip .. learn to serve your paying customers never again will we come here n p.s. the food wasnt even 5 stars it gets a 2 1/2

2022-04-04**UPDATED MENU COST!!THIS PLACE IS THE HIDDEN GEM OF SOUTH SLOPE!!I was introduced by a friend last summer and life will never be the same! The deal is real : $26.95 for unlimited mimosas/bloody Mary’s + 1 Appetizer + 1 main course. YA CANT BEAT THAT HOMIE!It has quickly become one of my favorite brunch spots in all of BK! The food is fantastic & affordable. In addition, the service is incredible and, the restaurant routinely has musical guests inside the restaurant.Lastly, the location is prime for walking (prospect park is nearby) and exploring (Greenwood cemetery is quite the adventure)Would highly recommend to anyone!

2022-03-26We live semi-nearby and always saw the place packed, so we figured we had to see what was drawing the crowds. It was everything we hoped - a warm welcome, terrific attentive and friendly service, and the food was excellent. The grilled romaine wedge salad is fantastic, the tiramisu was a standout, and everything in between was great. Reasonably priced bottles of wine, too. A perfect neighborhood spot.

2022-02-15The pictures look better than the food tasted. The soup was mediocre. The cheese and meat dish was soggy. The French toast tasted like fried eggs. We sat outside because we wanted to enjoy the random beautiful weather. Plus, the inside was super busy(shockingly). The service was poor and unfriendly and didn’t seem to be attentive to tables inside either. I was highly disappointed for this over priced brunch and there’s nothing I rather do more than brunch on a sunny Saturday.

2021-07-29Giovannis seems to be a newish restaurant in a pretty quiet area. We honestly stopped by because not a lot else seemed to be open at 9pm on a weekday nearby. The food ended up being very good and reasonably priced. The fresh tagliatelle was clearly the highlight, but the chicken dishes and dessert were also quite good. The service was very good and the outdoor seating area is nice and open and quiet. Would definitely recommend this place if you are in the area! Especially for some yummy carbs after a prospect park run or bike ride.

2022-02-15I found this restaurant while looking for a good place to celebrate Valentines day with my husband. We decided to go last Saturday risking the possible crowds. When we arrived, the restaurant was in full swing but we were quickly seated. The restaurant did not feel crowded despite being full. I enjoyed the service and the ambiance. Nonnas meatballs were all they said they were and more. I regret only ordering three. My husband had the seafood risotto and said he really enjoyed it. I had the chicken picatta and did not like it a bit. The chicken and broccoli were too hard to my liking. For dessert we had the almond cake which was decent. I plan on visiting again in the future and try a different dish to see if maybe my dish was bad due to how busy the restaurant was.

2022-01-10Ive been here for both dinner and brunch and enjoyed both experiences. At dinner on a weekend, we have live music which was provided a great atmosphere. The brunch deal is great- unlimited drinks and they kept my mimosa glass filled the entire time. Highly recommend for Italian food and comfort.
