THE IDAHO!!! Just had to announce that so everyone knows what to order when they go, especially first timers! The Idaho is one of man’s best works and consists of a heaping plate of home fries with cheese, scallions, (bacon if you choose) with eggs on top and toast on the side. Seriously one of the best breakfast places on Long Island. The service is also pretty quick and all of the wait staff is so friendly. The second picture is of the veggie burger my 13 year old niece ordered. She said she enjoyed it as well! Please note this place is CASH ONLY!
A classic sandwich (“The Jughead”) at a classic eatery. You can never go wrong at Glen’s. In fact the usually “sharp and snappy” waitresses have even gotten kinder and gentler over the years (yes, years!). While lunch is a treat here, you must come by for the breakfast...to die for (try the Blue Monkeys, and see for yourself)
We were in Babylon on a Saturday in the a.m. when my girlfriend asked if I wanted to stop for breakfast somewhere. I said youre in for a treat and took her to Glens. Of course there was a wait , but worth it. After Huevos Ranchero and a Spanish omelette between us we were stuffed and ready for a nap. The food, the ambiance and service never seem to fail.
Don’t know why it’s a Babylon favorite -unless Babylonians don’t eat out often. This place lacks actual flavor and food is mediocre at best. I tried a regular chicken Sandwich bc I figure how bad could they mess this up? Well my chicken looked like Weaver chicken and tasted like a bland chicken strip with lots of grease. Would not recommend
The best old fashion dinette you will find in NY. Been around since the 40s I went for the 1st time 10 years ago, I asked the couple next to me Whats good here? They said EVERYTHING! And they were right. Priced right, breakfast and lunch only and if you dont get there before 12 on Sunday... you need to wait till next week
OMG! Glens has been a Babylon-staple for I dont know how long. There isnt anything on the menu that I wouldnt recommend and absolutely love the home-made hash! Just dont order it well-done - they flatten it like a piece of paper. If you want the outside more well-done you have to be very specific about how you like it. Otherwise, food is AMAZING! There is often a long wait on the weekends so wander to Babylon Bean first to get a good cup of coffee while you wait to be seated at Glens. Absolutely worth any wait!
Ordered pickup/carry-out for lunch - batter dipped cod & fries . . . got COLD over cooked cod COVERED IN AMERICAN CHEESE on a burnt roll. Coleslaw was WARM and shiny like it sat out for 2-3 hours. First time getting food from them . . . and the last!!!! Actually only got 1 star, since it wouldnt let me post with NONE
Very difficult to fine great service. This place has the most friendliest staff. They’re on top of everything to ensure you have a perfect experience. I come here 4 times a week for breakfast. I just moved to the area and I would not attempt to try another breakfast spot. They’re that good! Breakfast is homemade and perfect size.
The best 💙 Blueberry Pancakes 🥞😋 Ive ever had! Real, fresh Blueberries! They put so many Blueberries in the Pancakes. Real juicy, round, fresh Blueberries. Theyre not cheap about it either. They put so many Blueberries in my Pancakes that Ill never forget them. 😋 Yummy!
I have been going to this diner since I was a little kid and the only thing better than the memories is the food. Everything is amazing and the portions are very generous. In addition to that it gives a meaning to tradition and a meaning to a community restaurant. When you mentions Glens for breakfast, everyone knows what you are talking about! Love love love this place. Would give it 6 stars if I could!
Disappointed- I went here for what the reviews said had the best corned beef hash Long Island and they served canned corned beef hash without a doubt. No pieces of crisp corned beef or potatoes or onions, Honestly I really couldn’t tell what was in it because it was just a pink mush. it was just a ground up wet mush that was crisped on the grill for a few minutes.. It wasn’t the worst canned corn beef hash I ever had but certainly not worthy of all the great reviews and certainly not something that should be advertised as a homemade corned beef
Food was excellent once again! Third time there and every single time it has been absolutely perfect. Food is steaming hot and cooked exactly how you ordered it. Best part, it tastes like homemade food! Very clean and staff is super friendly. Ive past this place hundreds of times and sadly never tried til recently. All the delicious meals Ive missed out on til now.
Small and busy at peak lunch hour, but the food is so good & there is so much charm here. Not at all your typical diner food. Everything tastes fresh and homemade. This place has been around forever and for good reason. Im 4th generation Babylonian (now living on the North Shore), but my grandparents knew the owners and my mother and aunt knew their children. Its nice to see a long time establishment still thriving in a town where some things still come and go.
Worst experience ever.. the waitress was not friendly at all, she let us wait for more than 30 mins and people was there after us they was served very quick and with a smile and when they finally bring the food the order was incomplete and we was with 2 kids and we was very clear when we place the order and she got the nerves to tell us if we want to share plates like seriously… never again.
If youre looking for a local breakfast spot that wont disappoint, Glens is the place for you. The decor and overall feel of the place is nostalgic. Be prepared to wait in line on a weekend morning or afternoon, the place is always packed - but for a good reason! You cant go wrong by ordering The Idaho - eggs cooked how you want over a heaping of potatoes, bacon and lots of cheese, with a side of toast. Cash only.
Glens dinette has fresh prepared food. Im always happy with whatever I order there & its a very family friendly, cozy place. My favorite breakfast is the Eggs Florentine & my favorite salad is Gorgonzola, my favorite lunch is uptown ciabatta. The wait staff is very friendly & efficient. If you havent been there yet, you must go try it. You will Love it.
Ive been going to Glens since i was a kid and except for a few new items, i love that nothing has changed. Their hash looks like normal hash until you bite into it and taste their great seasoning. Blue Monkey Pancakes are a favorite. I usually have to get a side of them with whatever Im having for breakfast. Whole blueberries and banana in the fluffiest pancakes are just amazing. For lunch, i am a big fan of their Texas burger. A spicy burger cooked perfectly on their griddle. Its an old greasy spoon with all the charm that goes along with it. Great staff and full of regulars. You may wait on the weekend for a seat, but trust me. Its worth it. Enjoy.
Great food at a great price! I have been going since I was much younger, and it has never changed its looks much. Has a very nostalgic feel to it and vintage styling! The staff is very courteous and friendly. They take a little long to make the food and get it out, but they are busy and always packed out. Wait is long, but always worth it! The food has never disappointed and always delicious!
Went for a late breakfast early lunch, got to choose from lunch and breakfast menus. Both menus had plenty to choose from and everyone enjoyed their meals, good was delicious and served hot, but when served kids meals came out last and it took about 5 minutes longer for the last meal to be served from the time meals started to be served.
We tried this place on a weekday and was very unhappy. The staff is rude and unfriendly. My order came out five minutes before my wifes, when asked when hers would be coming was told they bring out orders when ready. Guess they expect you to eat yours cold while you wait to eat together! Maybe too inexperienced to cook orders and have them ready at the same time! And they werent even busy. Also had to ask for the orange juice that came with the meal twice before the waitress with an attitude brought it to me at the end of the meal. We both got eggs but no hash brown potatoes came with the the order, another mistake on the waitress part which we didnt realize till the end of meal. I got poached eggs which were overcooked! And my wife got over easy eggs which were also overcooked!!! The cook needs to be retrained on how eggs should be cooked. Too top it all off they would only take cash, their prices are not cheap by no means ($35 for 2 for breakfast) and we did not see any cash only signs in the room we sat in. Only found out when I gave my credit card to waitress and she refused it, luckily we had enough cash to pay. But needless to say we will not be returning to this below par establishment that accepts cash only so they can screw everyone else who pays their fair share of taxes.
This is a small dinner with a 50s feel to it. They only accept cash as payment. I went on a Sunday, and there was a 20 minute wait to get a table. On Sundays, they only serve breakfast, which was disappointing to me. I wound up with a Belgian waffle. It was very good. The staff was friendly.

What a find! An old-fashioned type diner in the midst of our busy world. Being here made me stop and enjoy the food, etc. I wish try there were more places like this: warm, unpretentious and delicious. French toast was great as was coffee. Such a different ambiance from fast food competitors...with no heartburn.
*They are cash only* which is important to know for people like me who only carry cards all the time lol... Delicious food! I had the pancakes platter and hubby had eggs Benedict, both were very good. We got right in on a Saturday morning which was a pleasant surprise. Service was decent. They were nice but never checked in with us during the meal to see if everything was ok. Also, a tiny bit pricey ($33 for two meals and two orange juice) but thats to be expected for the quality.
This place is always packed for a reason. The folks are happy, the food is always fresh and delicious, and the price cant be beat. For breakfast, check out the Idaho, which is mountainous pile of crispy hash browns with melted cheddar with (eggs any style) and bacon on the bottom. If its lunch you crave, try the Thanksgiving on a roll! Its delicious. If a vegan/meatless meal is your thing, Glens has you covered too! Lots of veggie (most of which are locally sourced)alternatives are available. Desserts and muffins are a nice finish as well! Two things to know. They are open 6AM -3PM so get there early, and its cash only. Other than that, enjoy. Im pretty sure Glens Dinette will be your new favorite comfort food spot!
Not my 1st time here, but brought a guest and was very disappointed! The food was good, but the service WASNT, the meal came before the soup. And when I said something to the waitress I got a surprising lack of interest! Do you want it kept warm? was the reply! Its the waitresses job to deliver your food HOT in a timely fashion ( the kitchens responsibility is to cook it right and make it taste good) because the place is a busy success I guess my waitress didnt really care if I was satisfied, she sure didnt act that way! Plenty of places serve good food without attitude, Ill be spending my money in them from now on! (2nd review, seems somehow the 1st, was erased)
Although there is almost always a minimum 10-15 minute wait, its always worth it. Glens is the coziest and best spot Ive found for breakfast. My top choice is the blue monkey (blueberry/banana) pancakes. Old-fashioned style diner (50s?) with a bar available to sit at if dining alone or if thats your preference. The decor alone will keep you coming back, with local history all over the walls from newspaper clippings to pictures and signs. Cash only and inexpensive for the high quality.
Food is terrible. Toast too dry, fried over cooked, home biscuits over baked, home made grilled veggies baked to black color, Hollandese sauce too greasy. Im not recommending apple French toast either. We were waiting for food for a lond time and then I got my food 5 min before everyone else- akward. Not worth coming back again!
Let me begin by saying that I generally dont give out many five star ratings. I save them for that special gem. However, if youre familiar with Glens then you already know that this is a definite five star locale. Glens is hands down the best breakfast and lunch spot in the world as far as I know. Try the Idaho with a side of hash and youll be in heaven.
I was extremely disappointed it’s looks like a cute place my food as well as my daughters was not that bad but my husbands burger was under cooked and the floors were extremely dirty. My husband actually came home not feeling to good on top of that they don’t take cards just cash there is no sign stating this and the waitress do not inform you when you sit down as well so I had to walk down the street to the atm. When my husband asked the waitress if they could cook his burger a little bit more she hesitates for a second I thought she was going to say they can’t do that which would have been outrageous.. apart from all these things when she went to give me back my change from paying instead of handing it to me because I did have my hand out she dropped it on the table.. needless to say we won’t be going back there
Beautiful old-timey place with good food and really good and friendly service by the kind lady who sat us and by that wonderful server who suggested huevos rancheros. She was extremely patient with my wife and very helpful. Didnt catch her name , but she was wearing combat fatigue trousers.
THE BEST BEST BEST breakfast/early lunch spot in Babylon. Its cash only but if you forget there is a chase nearby. Everything on their menu is a slice of heaven. Leave extra time as you will most certainly encounter a wait on the weekends or during school breaks. Cant say enough good things about this homey-like dinette.
Not friendly told me I could not sit down at an empty table I waited for 15 minutes because my guest was parking car,bad attitude from server.I have been a customer there for over 20 years ,they are busy and have lost the need for curious service. Its too bad, will never return and will tell as many people as possible about my disgraceful experience. They are fortunate there are no other places nearby, which explains the fact they are unusually busy.
A great little place for a comfy home cooked feeling. Pancakes are good especially the blue monkeys (blueberry and bananas). Huevos Rancheros was a pleasant surprise if you like black beans (alot in this dish). If your really hungry try the Idaho... a great big heaping pile of things breakfast.
The best lunchonette, dinette, lunch counter around now (since Winnies in Bay Shore closed after the Coglins sold it about a decade ago). They have a much more creative menu then most, and there are always new options in addition to the good old standbys. The absolute best place in the local area for breakfast. Their farmers breakfast (which is basically an eggs Benedict except the English muffin is replaced with turkey stuffing) is fantastic.
Warning: CASH ONLY. All day breakfast plus sandwiches and salads make this a popular daytime stop in downtown Babylon. Metered parking out front is limited. The food is a definite step up from typical LI diner fare, and miles better than IHOP et al. Try the signature monkey pancakes: blueberry banana. Pure maple syrup available, which is always a plus from me.
NO CREDIT CARDS!!! Are you kidding me! I was so embarrassed when I had to leave my date sitting at the table as I walked down the street to the bank. I had what I thought was enough cash for breakfast for two at any other diner on the planet but not here I guess. You know what no credit cards means right? Another patriot not paying his taxes! Ill never go back. Food was nothing special and my girl friends stomach was upset afterward to boot...
A local semi- Diner/semi- Lunchenette thats been a fixture in Babylon Village since the 1970s. In 1981, the breakfast special, 2 eggs, bacon, toast, home fries and coffee was a buck. Today, that same breakfast is $11.99. considering the pressures of developers to finish buying the entire block, knock it all down and put up a 3 story office complex, and the ever rising commercial property taxes, that price adjustment isnt bad.
This place brings you back to the Dinettes of Legend where you can sit down at the countertop and enjoy a fantastic breakfast lunch and its got the best hot chocolate youve ever had in your life and not to mention the service you received his barn on the people there a fantastic everybody does an amazing job to make sure that you are satisfied

2022-05-04I don’t feel the food here has ever been much to rave about. Like others in their reviews, I don’t see the hype nor reason to wait long periods of time to eat at this place. Yes it’s cute, homey and quaint but I think I may have had my last breakfast there. Ordered an omelet. When it arrived I was disappointed on the appearance. The brown, overcooked, round omelet ( edges tucked in and squared) looked like a dirty potholder next to very bland-looking potatoes. All served on a small plate. Everything tasted as dry as it all looked. The omelet was hanging over the edge of the plate, with a small amount of potatoes (maybe because the plate size). For the price I paid (13.00), I feel that the quality did not even come close to having a satisfied experience.

2022-02-13Update: Food is good. Homemade goodness. Try the hash! I had the Apple Spice French Toast. It was very tasty and sweet enough to not add syrup. When it comes to payment, cash is king unless you want to pay the 2% fee to use your card.

2021-10-31Glens Dinette is surrounded by Neighborhood Charm that extends into the dining area. The food is typical with one shortcoming that could easily be fixed...Food: 2/5 - The few times Ive visited for breakfast the food has had an aftertaste that comes from the grill not being really clean when its cooked on. For example on todays meal, the sausage had that taste. To test, I cut off the outsides and ate it. The taste was not present. It could also be tasted in the home fries and the eggs. My spouse noticed the same thing. It has a greasy taste and the scrambled eggs had a dull look.Service 4/5 - Attentive and because of the size of the restaurant they are always close by. Refills of coffee were no problem.Ambiance 4/5 - The booths are comfortable and you get the feel that you are nestled in a local staple of the community. Glens has been around for quite some time and the walls are decorated with photos and knickknacks from the past. Seating is limited so if you go at a peak time there may be a wait.Value - 3/5 - Not too expensive.Cleanliness 2/5 - Aside from the aftertaste issue in the food, the restrooms are basically clean but you can tell their is some grime in the grout on the floor. The restaurant isnt filthy but its far from spotless as could be witnessed at the server area just outside the restrooms.Parking 2/5 - Depending on when you go, it can be tricky if youre not familiar with the area. There are metered spots right outside that only accept coins. Theres a lot across the street which technically is for customers visiting stores in that lot. Parking there isnt likely to be a problem. The lot is pretty big near the back of it. There are some other free parking areas in walking distance if you look them up on your favorite map app.Overall 3/5 - The food is the thing thing keeps me coming back repeatedly. However I must say, that this place does some brisk business for the locals so perhaps that greasy spoon taste is just fine for you. For me, I probably will visit again in a year or two to see if things have changed. Its a place I would really like to be a regular at if the food taste issue was fixed.Top 1 Recommendation for the restaurant: Make sure there is a regimented process around cleaning the grill and frequently changing out frying oils.
