So Im from the pacific northwest, and its hard to find someone outside of there typically that has a good grasp of the flavor profile that we tend to appreciate over there. I was walking by, saw the store name, thought to myself I like good beer so I started chatting with the guy on break outside and he blew me away with his knowledge of both local and out of state beers! he was very helpful, and now that Im back home and cracked open a couple of cans, he definitely has the beer to back up his knowledge. by far the best beer Ive had on this side of the country, and probably the best service as well. it is my goal to go back before I head home, these guys are amazing! I love good beer and so do they!
Do you like beer? Love beer? This is the place for you! Have always left with more beer than I intended to buy...but in a good way. Reasonable prices and helpful staff. Well organized and great selection. Appreciate the diversity of breweries and styles. Cant recommend enough. Love finding something new everytime I stop by. Cheers!
The guy there was well informed and gave me a great recommendation on what to get. Some may call it overpriced but the selection is unparalleled and I really enjoyed my purchase. Good place to talk about beer if youre that type. Im not really but I learned a few things at the counter!
I love this place, should be called Great Beer. Always good beers on tap with knowledgeable staff and a really good selection of cans and bottles. They definitely have mostly beers from more local breweries. But they get their fair share of out of town stuff too, including typical European beers. Worth stopping in for sure if you love craft beer.
I come to New York once a year, and my workmates and I have made it a yearly tradition to stop at Good Beer NYC to stock up for our visit. The selection is wonderful, and their advice is spot on.Because of Covid this year, I called ahead, and David made up boxes for each of us based on the styles we like. That kind of service is something I will always come back for.
The people who work here are literally SO nice. A bottle of nice beer (Stone) can be up to 4 bucks but for national craft beers, spending under 20 bucks for a six pack isnt bad. The shop is arranged by region and theres tables to enjoy whatever they happen to have on tap that day. LOVE this place
Reminded me of the days when interesting beer was hard to find and stores like this were the only places to get some of the boutique or imported brews. Except that those places always had passionate beer-fans working there where as the staff at this bar/off-licence were disconnected and unfriendly. Many of their beers were cold stored suggesting they do have good appreciation for the quality of their products but a fair amount wasnt fresh and the fridges were just two large systems so there doesnt appear to be any seperate controls for the different styles of beer.It would be great if the cans and bottles in the store were available to drink on premise as thats generally the appeal of stores like this, for me (although maybe thats a state licensing issue?). There were a good range of styles on tap which were available to drink on premise or for take-away.
This is one of my favorite places in NYC. Its a super casual spot with extremely friendly and engaging staff. While theyre very knowledgeable of beer, they may be even more knowledgeable of music - the playlist and ambiance is charming. Their selection of beer is remarkable, if a bit pricey; however, they maintain a good selection of rotating drafts at a fair price, and theyre always willing to offer a taste before you commit to a full glass.
This is my go-to place in the East Village for craft beer and growler refills. They have a great selection of taps (I think 6 or 8) as well as both the entire length of the store having refrigerators and bulk on shelves. There is space to sit and have a beer (from taps only), but I have never taken advantage of it. The staff is super friendly and I know if I had any questions they would take good care of me.
Good Beer is really a misleading name. It should be called best beer; reason being is because this store is one of the best curated and best priced in the city. Ive never gone to the place and walked out empty handed or with a bottle that wasnt really worth it. Ive never called ahead and gotten someone who didnt know what they were talking about. Ive never seen them miss a limited release, even if they only have a limited quantity. Basically, this is the best overall beer store Ive been to. Just about the only workout I get these days is the one my arms get from carrying bags of their beer back to Jersey City. Did I mention that the prices are reasonable as well?Good Beer also doubles as a bar somehow. Im not sure about the rules on this, but this may be the most awesome loophole ever. In addition to all the bottles, they always have 8-10 tap selections that are also available by growler. They have food too, but Ive never had it. This is basically the beer store companion to Proletariat. Combine all of this with a 10% discount for 6 bottles or more and special brewery events that occur intermittently, and you have a special place. For an alcoholic at least.
I love this place. They have variety of American craft beers and Belgian, German, and English imports.Ill still keep my review at 5 stars, but they were sold out of a lot of my favorite beers today (Wednesday). They had no Victory Golden Monkey, no Troegs Perpetual IPA, and no Flying Dog Raging B :(. The clerk said that they place orders once a week on Wednesday and they arrive on Thursday. So if you want to make sure you have your chosen beers in stock, you might want to go after Wednesday.
This is a very nice place to buy craft beers. The selection is quite sizeable (and for the most part, refrigerated), the staff is very helpful and friendly. They happily recommend you some beers and are quite knowledgeable. It is also possible to stay in and drink beers from tap. I second all other reviewers: if youre into craft beers and are in New York, this is definitely a place to check out.
Amazing customer service, even better wide selection of local beers. What ever your pallet desires they have it here in can and in bottles they do have some selection on tap. So you can try before you buy if its on the tap. 10 dollar credit card minimum. Each can runs about 3 dollars.
This is my friends and Is favorite places in the city. Before we all moved, we would come here every Friday after work/school. The tap selection is amazing and rotating fairly often so you always can find something new to try. The bartenders are amazing people that are so easy to talk to, not to mention well-informed about craft beers. Their to-go beer selection is absolutely amazing. I mean from floor to ceiling and more with different bottles and cans. If you are looking for a place that you can have a pint of a great craft beer while shopping for rare and delicious beers, this is the place for you.
If youre into unique craft brews and you dont stop here when in NYC, its plain stupidity... This is the greatest beer store because of selection, organization, and customer service... Come here to talk about, explore new, and enjoy true craft beers! Thanks for a terrific experience!
One of several bars we planned to visit in and around Alphabet city/the lower east side and it didnt disappoint. Good selection of IPAs on tap, but the bottle selection is exceptional, all separated by region and type, bar owner also shared other local bars to visit and was genuinely interested as to where we had visited previously
This place is a great option for newcomers hoping to discover their favorite beer or old pros trying to find a rare brew. They offer flights of four to help you sample a few different brews on tap and they try and keep at least one cider on tap at all times. I had a cherry cider here November 2012 that was so delicious I bought an entire growler on the spot. Still have the growler, would like more cherry cider. They have a large selection of various beers and accommodate all tastes from ales to stouts to ciders. The staff is super friendly as well and will always talk to you about their available selections. Its a small cozy place and I always enjoy visiting it.
This place is heaven for craft beer enthusiasts. They have a rotating tap for flights. Music is always low so you can talk. Fridges stocked full of bottles to bring home. Lots of restaurants in the area for when you walk out drunk. Whether youre looking for a few beers to bring home or a flight to try, this is it.
This place lives up to its name, I walked in looking for a specific beer that I had no idea if they had. They were knowledgeable and super helpful, they didnt have it (its not available in NY) but directed me to something similar and very very tasty. I would recommend this place to anyone.Ive been back several times and they have been great every time.
Great place to drink beer and especially to buy cans and bottles, many of them not found anywhere. The service is friendly and helps a lot in choosing the best recipes. No need to buy 4-pack, the combo with four equal beers, you can take units from any can. Prices are no better than a Whole Foods of life, but they are not expensive. For those who drink, they fly there. Keep an eye on: the place is kind of hard to find, kind of a basement. The mood is very informal.

2022-08-21Meh. I visited yesterday for the 1st time. Small place with one man behind the counter. The beer fridges were about 60% full, mostly with local cans and boring imports. I asked the guy behind the counter if they have anything from Rogue Brewery out of Oregon, and he told me Rogue is too mainstream for them. I mentioned they have Sierra Nevada Pale Ale and Founders All Day IPA, and he just sniffed. $5 for a 12 ounce can of 5% lager made just a few short miles away in Brooklyn. I can get a 24oz of imported lager at the supermarket for $3. $3 more if you want to consume that can of lager on site. I do like the neighborhood though. Point for that.

2020-10-01There is an impressive selection of beer brewed locally and abroad. One can build their own 4 or 6-pack of beer, cider, and /or hard seltzer.

2019-11-10Great selection of craft beer on tap and in bottles. Im a fan of sour beer and this place really fits my palate. I could always find something tasty on tap. I also learned to know and love hazy IPA here. The international bottles are really best of the best, Rodenbach Grand Cru, Aventinus, Lambic etc. Every visit is a absolute pleasure.

2017-07-19Amazing selection of beers. Should be noted that I am not a beer guy or know much about craft beers, I tend to sick to IPAs but I can here with a beer connoisseur who made me expand my pallet for beer tasting. This is one of those places you should visit if you want to try something different or just care to have a great beer and dont really care about being at a crowded bar with a ton of noise. Very low key, get more of a grocery store vibe here (my opinion).. there is seating and they do not serve food or allow you to bring outside food. Just come prepared to enjoy some great beers and I wouldnt be surprised if you end up buying a few bottles to go! Cheers!
