This is a sickkk mountain! There were a lot of trails open when I went and well groomed. I did see ice spots in some trails but they were marked to avoid them. The staff in guest services were very helpful and the definition of outstanding customer service. I will Definitely be back here!
Best place to ski in New York. The trails are very diverse. When there’s fresh snow and they actually open the glades it’s amazing. My only complaint is that they were only opening burnt ridge on Thursday-Sunday when I was free to ski Monday or Tuesday. Burnt ridge is the best part of the mountain.
First time visit at Gore with my son, age 22. Everything was great, especially the staff: Jule (Juliana in Rentals), Greg H, fantastic coach, instructor, Joe and Amanda at service desks and Jim F, employee and counselor at large. The food was really tasty: Chili with meat, grilled cheese and the Garden salad had everything in it, very tasty and complete. Only criticism is the online ordering system which, in my opinion is not very user friendly and the parking lot needs a lot of work, pot holes large enough to ruin your Ferrari. Recommended!
I suggest you go to west mountain near by instead or just go out west. So many other ski resorts that will provide a much more family fun environment! The major Karen vibes was a buzz kill and the hidden ice patches made it super not rad! Also the management is secretly selfish and they take advantage of their employees as well.
Great terrain and nice views. There are definitely some flat areas that are annoying for snowboarders, but its really still manageable. Good lift capacity, and its a really fun place (when the conditions are good with fresh, nature made snow). I really liked what I saw of the terrain, but Id have to say I was most disappointed with the safety aspects. Many of the on/off load areas of the lifts had significant ice. Its really easy for a misplaced step from a snowboarder to slip. This even happened once where I saw a snowboarder approach the loading zone, his foot slipped out, he got his board turned sideways, and he got crashed into by the lift. Also near the midmountain lodge was a huge rink of ice due to the wind. It wasnt adequately marked off and I saw numerous people accidentally venture onto it (and fall) because they didnt realize that it was such a large area (AND its on a Green near the Saddle lodge). I really would have expected ski patrol to have marked it off limits or put up a warning since it could be very dangerous for new skiers and riders. A bruised tailbone or broken wrist might end the season.
Nice ski slopes. Kids love the place.have to get tickets before arriving at the mountain, but you can use the kiosk to print them out. They have a good assortment of skis, boards, helmets and poles for rent. Foot is a little.pricy, but they have plenty of space both indoors and outside to eat whether you bring your own food or buy from them.
Excellent conditions on the slopes reasonable lines. On the day I went. The staff was friendly and helpful whenever I had a question, the ski shop guys took care of my skis quickly and did a good job tuning them. But the best part are the views from the top of the mountain you can see for miles and its gorgeous. Highly recommend visiting just for that.
The mountain is pretty nice and the staff at the ticket offices was helpful. We were having a great day until we went to tannery pub and restaurant. We sat down around 1:20 and ordered nachos, chicken fingers, and a grilled cheese. It took almost an hour for these three simple things to come out. We were not updated once on the status of our food or asked how it was when it came out. (Very bad and cold). We will probably return to gore but not the restaurant.
Went to Gore mountain in August to hike the the ski trails. The area nearest to the lifts was closed off so we had to park far away the walk to the base. The facilities looked nice but definitely a level or two lower than Whiteface which gets a much bigger summer crowd. We actually had more fun hiking some of the Catskill mountains to be honest. On the plus side the skiing looked great, Gore has tons of gladed trails. I probably wouldnt go back there to hike again but I definitely would to ski!
On 1/12/2022 I visited Gore Mtn …it was a Wednesday…(.mid week)..and I swear, the ENTIRE PLANET was there!(Doesnt anyone work or go to school anymore!!?? (🤣)I had to park in Lot E, thats something Ive never had to do before..and there was no shuttle running that i could see, but still I didnt mind the 4 mile walk to the ski area..(🤣)…just kidding..Despite all the cars and people there, I checked in and got on the gondola in pretty short order and zoomed all the way to the top of the mountain…. Ski conditions were perfect at the top ,no real crowds to battle ,either at the rides or on the slopes…..it was a perfect ski day! Many thanks to all staff for making this trip awesome! I got a frequent skier card so Ill be back many tymes! I LOVE GORE !!!❤️❤️(apparently the entire planet does too!)Crowds were no problem.. Conditions were perfect.. staff awesome! NO COMPLAINTS HERE!
I wanted to say thank you to all the staff at Gore for making the 2020/21 season an enjoyable experience during the pandemic. We have been coming to ski here for many years and we were very impressed with how organized the mountain was during this difficult time. The lift lines were spaced out and the staff made sure we kept our distance while waiting.Special shout out to the attendant at Straight Brook Lodge for constantly wiping the tables and chairs. It made us comfortable to know that we had a clean table at our favorite lunch spot. And, special shout out to ski instructor Jerry Taft who gave us an excellent lesson that made a big difference in our skiing. Thanks to everyone at Gore, and we hope to be back next season!
Was well worth the trip!!! Gore Mountain exceeded our expectations. They enforced safety precautions! The gondola with seats and the multiple food/bathroom spots along the slopes made for a comfortable and easy time. The summit is beautiful and the slopes were great! Come here if you want a great snowboarding experience!!
Took the chairlift up to Saddle, then met local tour guide Rich, who offered to take us to the top of Gore. We learned about the geology (yup, garnets abound in this area) & history. Rich was very knowledgeable, & we loved the scenery. But a bit hazy - remnants of smoke from the west! Imagined what this view would be on a clear day or in the winter! Did not know that Gore is a state run ski resort - lift tickets are significantly less expensive. Thank you, New York 👍🏻🙌🏻
Fantastic resort to ski in the northeast. Plenty of skiable terrain for all levels. Draws more of a local crowd so trails dont get jammed up. Amazing views! Strongly recommend, particularly if you are looking for a place to ski within a 4 hour drive from NYC/NY metro area.
Overall, the experience today was really great. Lift lines were great, conditions were great considering the recent weather. The cheeseburger i had for lunch was the best Ive ever had at a ski mountain. The major complaint was we got to the top of the mountain, and only black diamonds were open. My ski partner was not experienced with these, but decided to give it a shot, as one connected to a blue square trail. Unfortunately she fell and injured herself. We made it down, but had to go back up another chair to get back to a trail that took us down to the lodge. I asked the operator if there was a blue trail available, and he did not know. By the time we made it down she could not do any more skiing due to her injury. Ive never been to a mountain where there was no warning if there were only expert trails available from that lift. Really put a damper on what should have been a great day.
Beautiful slopes with lots of trails for every type of skier and snowboarder. They have a lodge up on the mountain which is so convenient. They do close at 4 so come early because the lifts start closing at 345. Dont forget to get a hot Belgian waffle at the main lodge .
Loved this mountain, first time here. Spent 2 days here and 2 days at Whiteface, this was a much more enjoyable experience. The variety of trails and different areas of the mountains kept us entertained and the conditions were great. The only issue I have is that the parking was going into the overflow lot, which is about a 15 minute walk in ski boots, carrying your equipment and there was no shuttle like Whiteface had. Im not sure why it was so busy, we were there midweek on a non holiday week but it was fairly busy. Overall, I would definitely return.
We came here towards the end of the season and sadly didn’t have a great experience. I know this is the luck of the draw with an outdoor seasonal sport that depends on conditions but the way it was handled wasn’t great. We pre bought tickets for the date we were available and in town. It happened to rain and be a little windy the morning we went and apparently the top of the mountain iced over, during the night. The gondola and most of the park were therefore closed. 2 lifts were running and only about 6-8 trails were available to use. The conditions of the mountain were not updated to reflect this and the fliers at the ticket kiosks were not updated to reflect this either :( We drove 1.5 hours each way to get there. It would have been nice to have known this before we arrived.Tickets were purchased in advance online. Touch less kiosks dispensed your pass and all lift entrances were gated. Staff were all wearing masks and enforced guests to do the same. The lodges we saw were older but had everything you needed. Vented tents were available in the parking lot to provide extra space for getting ready or eating.I wouldn’t say this would prevent me from coming back again. I have heard great things about this mountain. However I hope the staff does a better job communicating what is going on to the public.
The lady who works at the customer service was so rude to us. Her way of talking was not welcoming and made us feel like we couldn’t ask questions.Aside from that experience with her the ski resort was so much fun! We were new to snowboarding and we payed for a family class! Our instructor was phenomenal and so patient. I would def go back to take another class! If you would like to drink make sure you eat at the restaurant inside the lodge rather then the finger food at entrance. You won’t be able to take food inside restaurant and you have to order food to order drinks. They’re doing a solid thing with covid going around and making it work!
This is an awesome mountain and we always have a great time skiing! Unfortunately, I had to take off one star because there is a woman who works in customer service there (she’s answered when we’ve called several times) who is very rude, cuts you off when you speak, and answers all questions with a serious attitude. It’s a shame that so many great experiences at Gore are dampered by one employee with a bad attitude. Definitely visit this mountain but cross your fingers that you don’t end up having to speak to her.As a side note, in our experience, all other employees there have been very kind, helpful, and easy going!
Woooooow this place is by far my favorite in fall foliage. Oct 10, 2021 was the last day of fall festival so I was super lucky to go ride on the chairlift up and gondola coming down. If you do plan to go next year, go by chairlift, walk around 10 minutes to the gondola and you’ll get to see few spots with the views. It’s so beautiful & highly reccommend to visit this gorgeous place.
The lesson is great! The instructors were good. Ive skied before but I went with someone who hasnt so I took the lesson with them and it was great, much better than the lesson I had when I went (to a different mountain) the first time. I wouldnt suggest the beginner lesson for people who have skied already though because you can only get on the two small lifts. I was done with the small lifts after a few runs when I got my ski legs back.
This mountain does not care about the customers. They will do the bare minimum to make snow and open trails when they should be open! The mountain has some great trails but they will never open them. I have been coming here for 20 years and can not stand for how this place is ran.
I love Skiing at Gore. This week my brother and I headed there to ski. I had 2 tickets, that I had purchased on a Black Friday special in 2019, and was unable to use last year, because of COVID 19. I contacted Gore, and they told me to mail them back, and they would replace them to be used in the 2020-2021 season. When I got to the window to use them however, I was informed that the tickets that they had sent back, were not valid from 12/19/20 to 3/14/21. Gore had sent back tickets that were not valid during the main ski season (while I had paid for tickets that could be used during the main season)! No amount of explaining helped. I paid the $105 price, because I did not want to, at that point, go home. If I had realized, I would have purchased tickets online before hand and saved myself some money. It just felt kind of like an underhanded way to do business. Did anyone else have a problem like this? Just wondering if I am the only one in this situation?
First visit was a mess, there was NO parking left. All lots were full and it took an hour to drive 3 miles to get in due to traffic. I chose to go there MLK weekend after a decent storm so it was more busy than usual i guess. The slopes were fun when they were not flat, and they were flat in a LOT of areas. Snow coverage was decent but due to conditions it had turned to ice in all the places you needed to catch an edge.Half day pass purchased the day of at the lodge was 60$ which is decent for the # of trails and lifts. Lines were long but the wait was surprisingly short in most cases. They were well staffed in the main areas and kept people moving quickly, they did however have a few lifts that had long wait times due to mountain staff teaching lessons apparently getting priority boarding. This place has managed to normalize line cutting and do it in a way that was not annoying in a lot of cases, though when it was as busy as it was it became more noticeable.Their Grill Pit food was actually good, had the BBQ pulled pork and actually enjoyed it. The wait was long, but again, this was likely due to the sheer # of people there. All in all I am glad i came even though i only got a few hours in, likely will not return however. The 4 hour drive and parking situation make the trip not worthwhile unless staying for a few days.
The mountain is great overall and probably the best in NY and well worth our 2.5 hour ride there. The only problem we had on Wednesday was at the gondola, when getting into line a couple people ahead of us said something about cutting. Not sure if they were talking about us or others but an older women who seemed to be working as line police heard them and jumped all over us as if we cut someone with a knife. She was yelling at us and trying to shame us for something we didnt do. We ended up just walking away to avoid confrontation and left soon after. Not sure what her real job is but I dont think its supposed to be ruining peoples great time. Especially after we offered or let dozens of groups of people go ahead of us at every lift line prior to this one.
Love skiing this mountain in the winter. There are plenty of trails and they do a good job keeping snow coverage. They have done a lot of renovation on the ski lodge, so it is very nice to hang out at the bar post skiing.I Recently hiked the Schaefer trail to the summit which was really pretty and the dogs enjoyed. Currently the lifts to the summit are closed. Typically during the summers you can take the gondola to the top to hike or mountain bike.
From someone who’s been skiing here since they were four: bring your own lunch in a pack, but pack lightly. the lunch/food here is super expensive, and not that good. just bring a sandwich and water (you even have to pay for water, so keep that in mind). when you are coming up here, always keep a gallon of water in your car. if you need water, thaw it out and drink some. get a walkie talkie set on amazon for $20 and give one to a buddy, but make sure your on a channel you don’t have to have a HAM radio license for. also, if you see someone who crashed on skis, just ask them if they are alright, even if they are seem fine. they might have a broken rib or something. i had a friend who had a broken collar bone and no one stopped and asked if she was alright, and she layers there for an hour at night time.thanks for coming to my ted talk lol.
This was my first time at Gore and the variety of terrain there was great. The conditions werent, due to our warm winter, but there was still 75-80% of the trails open. Some really fun runs and not bad lift lines at all on a Friday. Hope to get back again this season!
I ski here all the time! Have to drive 2 hrs to get there, but definitely worth it!! Perfect for intermediate skiers, but beginners could as well try it out. ...Just might spend your time at bunny hill instead of the rest of the beautiful mountain! Ive been coming here for the past at least 5yrs I would say! Its really a great place!
First time at Gore mountain and will definitely be back. The gondola ride is a must and the top blues & black are nice and long. I havent been skiing long but really enjoyed coming to experience this mountain. The food choices are varied and plenty. Very kid friendly and the staff is super friendly and extremely helpful. Thanks to their snow making abilities the base was descent enough and the moguls challenging. I will be back.
Gore is the best kept secret in the Northeast so dont tell anyone!!! We discovered Gore several years ago after growing up skiing the Northeast and then living in Colorado for 5 years. We were shocked how great it is, so much that we bought a place near the mountain. We live in NJ and do the 4 hour trek every weekend and never look back. Our son is in the season long Mountain Adventure program and skis with the same group every weekend. We have made great friends with other parents and other every weekend Gore skiers. There is a variety of terrain for everyone. When mother nature is on our side, the mountain literally doubles in terrain when the glades are open. Gore have some of the best glades in the Northeast!!! We are so excited for all the major improvements going on this summer for the 2018-19 season. The base lodge is expanding and the Tannery Pub is going to have at least 300 more seats. The snow making will have 40% more water capacity pumping from the Hudson. I want to mention that Gore is not a resort mountain, but thats what keeps it so special and less crowded most of the time....
Gore is great! If youre a fan of the Adirondacks you cant go wrong here. Gore is big, but the mountain maintains the feeling of a more independent resort. The terrain is great. There are some distinct zones of varying pitch. I find that its best to session the zones, as the topography of Bear and Gore mean that traveling between lifts can lead to some long run outs/traverses (boarders beware).Lots of people rip on Gore for their operations, but I think its misguided. Please do realize that Gore is surrounded by wilderness on all sides... Follow the closures.
Great day with the Family and Girlfriend at Oktoberfest. Sadly dude to covid there were limited vendors but the mac and cheese and chili I had from the Mac Factor Truck and the lodges food stand on from the weekend specials part of the menu respectively. Also the Gondolas/Ski Lifts were both up and running to take you to the hiking trails at the top. Will definitely go back on my next trip to visit Grandma and Grandpa in Upstate New York. Thanks for a great day.-Long Islander
Absolutely loved Gore, it is an awesome mountain to ski and snowboard. Staff was friendly and helpful. Lifts all ran very smoothly. Food was a little expensive but thats to be expected with a ski resort like this. The snow was great and the trails were in abundant. Definitely would take you more than one day to explore them all. I hope to go back soon
Opening weekend 2018 was a blast! The trails look good, at least the ones that were open. The lodge looks about the same as last year, no upgrades. The lifts are convenient and speedy, and the beginning slope is great for kids as young as four and five years old to get out there and start skiing. Plus, kids 6 and under are free!! The bathrooms downstairs were large and very clean, I was impressed. The food is overpriced and kind of junky, but isnt that the case everywhere in ski lodges? You can bring your own food and I suggest you do so! There is lots of parking and a shuttle that will take you back to your car that runs all the time. My only complaint is the price for lessons, its very expensive compared to the other mountains in the area. Well come back here to ski, but we will have our children take lessons somewhere else like West or Willard.
Gore is s fun mountain to ride, more so if you ski rather than board. I however board and have been caught without the trail map on one occasion, causing me to walk with my board for what seemed like miles. I didn’t like this design aspect of the mountain. The upper peaks are pretty good and very steep on certain trails. Not a whole lot to do around the Mountain either. It’s good old NY!
Its run by the state; trails are never open, food is terrible and horribly overpriced, they never blow snow when it needs to be and when they do its never groomed, if youre looking for a decent park this is not the place to be. It would be better if it were run by actual monkeys.
Best Thanksgiving weekend ever on Gore mountain. Top to bottom skiing, short lines and tons of snow. Thank you Gore Mountain staff for all your hard work. You made everything great. We are definitely coming back soon. Please keep expanding with new trails and lifts. Looking forward to more skiing and great lessons this season.
I love Gore Mountain. Definitely one of the gems of Adirondacks and certainty one of the best mountains Upstate in general . When I was there it was Farley empty which is huge benefit. Price for the ticket was pretty cheap too , so it was definitely a win win . Whether you skiing or snowboarding- you’ll have a tons of fun , enjoy 🏂⛷🤞🏽
Really wanted to love Gore Mountain. Coming from Syracuse it’s an easy drive to great skiing. Only. They don’t want you there. Staff makes it extremely difficult to get passes, don’t offer any helpful hints or insight on how to make the most of your trip. We had passes last year, it was freakishly 60 and raining the day we were going to ski and they would NOT give vouchers to come back. It would have been unsafe for my kids to ski. Despite this we tried again. Today 90% of the mountain was closed due to wind... yet they have no issue underplaying this and taking money. Were actually only two runs we could do.They vibe as a whole is one by which they don’t want “outsiders” at “their” mountain. Unfriendly and cold (not in the winter sense either).Better off driving a bit further and having the Vermont experience.
I ski here all the time and Love this place. Did some spring skiing last weekend. Temps on Sat were in the 60s and it was fun skiing in sweaters. Sunday and Monday temps went back into the 20s. Gore staff did a great job minimizing the ice. Was icy, but not as bad as it could have been if the groomers did not make the best it could be.
Our favorite Mt. Ive been skiing there for most of my life. Theyre constantly making improvements & we always have so much fun there. I love that I now get to share this with my children. We took a lesson with Patrick, & it couldnt have been better. He was great at catering to our needs & quickly assessed what we really needed to be working on. Plus, he was so much fun to ski with 😁 My kids took lessons at the ski school (as they do every year) and they had a blast. We cant wait for our next trip back next year!
Excellent slopes, friendly staff, and wasnt too crowded on the weekdays we went. We saved a lot of money by having a frequent skier pass and coming on specific days with bigger discounts. The lodges are also clean and cozy and the town of North Creek is great after your done with a day on the mountain
Gore is an interesting mountain. There is a nice variety of terrain from beginner to expert with a number of lifts to keep people moving up and around the mountain. The facilities are in good shape but dated. I found it odd that snowmaking activity ended in early February for the season. It definitely would have helped the conditions after warm temps and rain earlier in the week. Staff was friendly. Lift lines moved along reasonably but lifts stopped quite often. More than I have ever experienced in my 40 plus years of skiing.
Havent skiied in a number of years. I went to Gore with one of my daughters ( a strong skier) and one of my grandchildren. We had a great time. The staff was very friendly, the prices reasonable , the tails and lifts A+. No lines and not such a long drive (from CTs NYC suburbs). It reminded me of going back a 20 years...fewer frills, lower prices, nice people and family friendly.
Great place the kids love the hills and instructors. Employees are all nice in the lodge and front cafeteria. Great breakfast sandwiches. Only negative is the bar/restaurant in the main Lodge has consistently bad service - they dont seem to care about people that eat there. Food is just as good in the snack bars. If the restaurant had a different Google profile I would rate that a 1 and the rest of Gore a 5+
My favorite mountain thats close enough for a day trip from Albany. Almost always has great conditions. The terrain is perfectly suited to skiers/riders of all abilities and age levels. I also love the fact that its not a giant, built up commercial mountain - its a no frills place for people focused on the mountain and not the amenities afterward.
Changed from 1 star to 2 after a partial refund. Original review below... Worst day of skiing I have had in years. Website it is mid afternoon, and only two of the lifts are open, although the website still says 11 are planned to open today. The website also says they plan to open 29 trails, but I guess they are counting trails that are accessible by lifts that have not been running at all today. Most of the staff is trying to be helpful, but are misinformed about which lifts are actually running, so they send you off in the wrong direction. Seems like the breakdown on site is in communication, and the desire to draw people in with misleading information on the snow report. The lines have been ridiculous all day, so we have averaged one run per hour... 40 minutes standing in line, 10 minutes on the lift, and then 10 minutes coming down. We wont be coming back.
I really like Gore. Its a good size mountain with some great skiing. Its well maintained and not too crowded. Any staff I have dealt with has always been very nice and helpful.Overall the place has a great vibe and feel to it. Its certainly not the fanciest but its a great place to go.
Gore is our favorite mountain to ski within striking distance of our home. Lots of varied terrain for all skill levels and some great glades. Its a bit remote and there are not a lot of hotel options nearby, but lift lines are never too long and the lodges are nice. Nice skiing experience.
Everything was amazing not too crowded. Beautiful pictures and awesome angels with out got yep reach way to see it.The restaurant server at the window was rude and other patrons were speaking and she insulted then for their accent to another working in the kitchen but loudly. For sure she needs to be trained in diversity and discrimination. And while we were sitting there trying to eat she verbally assulted another patron who asked her to changed her gloves after touching her face and hair she got loud and rude. The older lady just blew the whole trip for us and three other groups. Please train her. :/
I have been going to gore mt for 20 years and Id never want to go anywhere else. My family bought 2 house in upstate ny to go skiing there. The staff is friendly, the trails are great, the food is great, and they have true dbl back diamonds. I suggest coming here with small children and beginners because they have great lessons and very nice instructors. Their trails always seem to impress me. The prices are a little high but taking everything into consideration it is definitely worth it.
Gore Mountain was so much more than I expected! The snow conditions were perfect the first day. The Mountain is so big, be careful not to get lost! There is a great mix of beginner, intermediate, and advanced slopes. The second day conditions were drastically different. A half foot of powder was left from the night before. The temperature dropped and a fog set in on the top of the Mountain. The wind picked up and the snow stuck to our clothes and googles then turned to ice. It was awesome. We could barely see and we were freezing but the skiing was great!Cons: the food was expensive (no surprise) and the Mid Mountain Lodge food was pretty bad.Pros: the Base Lodge food court had a variety of food (even healthy options!) The best part was that the prices were reasonable and it wasnt too busy.Suggestions: I would pack a lunch take the gondola to the Mid Mountain Lodge and eat by the fire place and enjoy the Mountain views! Be careful the conditions can change rapidly, be ready for anything!
I LOVED GORE. This is my second favorite mountain second to Stowe. I would only reccomend it if you enjoy skiing through glades because that is one of the biggest reasons of why I liked it more then other mountains was the vast amount of glades. I would only recommend this to skiiers that are better since most of the glades are very challenging and will not be as enjoyed to a beginner. The views were also very pretty.
Great terrain particularly for glade skiing when conditions allow. Certainly needs some updates to some of the facilities but this is a product of available resources as it is a state run ski area. They have invested heavily in upgrading snow making equipment and capacity with noticeable improvement but need to be more aggressive in its use. But given its status as a state run resort they make the best of what they have.
I truly hope the state owned mountains are sold to Vail. The mismanagement is typical of most NYS offices. Last season pre covid I bought an online ticket. When I arrived at the mountain traffic was backed up. After one hour still no sight of the parking lot. We gave up and left. Lost our money. Any other ski resort parking takes 5 minutes even on the busiest days. Now their website wont let me buy a ticket. Call the mountain and you get a recording. Call tech support and you get a recording. I cant review the mountain because Ive never seen it !
Greatly improved in recent years, the glades are nice. Weirdly enough the ski patrol closes trails that are in decent shape with natural snow and keeps the ones that are sheets of ice open. If you are an expert skier with good judgment this is hard to take. I paid for a lift ticket, would like to ski the whole mountain, within reason.
Great mountain. The vertical advertised cannot be maximized in single runs, but the lifts and trails make up for that. Even on a crowded weekend I found the slopes to be near empty.Very few options for beginners, and the beginner trails were a bit more intermediate than other mountains. The main ticketing and rental area was chaos with even the concierge pointing us the wrong direction. Ski school (parallel from the start program) was not very effective. My GF gave up after a couple hours and my daughter left the program and wandered the mountain with me. They would not refund the second day of my GF’s 2 day package, which is in the agreement but quite frustrating for a newcomer who isn’t able to enjoy the experience. The lodges were crowded for lunch but moved people chaotically but quickly. The cost for lunch was outrageous but expected (unfortunately).Parking was VERY difficult. You have to get there very early or be willing to walk possibly over a mile from your car. Their shuttles are very few and far between.Summary:Great mountain for intermediate to expert, but get there early and bring your own food.
Good terrain, good snow, bad attitude among staff. Kind of a dmv worker vibe among employees.Parking: To start the day, on the way into the crowded parking lot, with pedestrians on either side of my vehicle, parking lot staff began yelling come on, keep it moving and making unnecessary faces and head shaking gestures.Gondola: There are SWASTIKAS and antisemitic comments carved into Gondola car #14. I reported it to the attendant at the summit who shrugged and walked away.Food: Decent prices but the food is nothing to write home about. My $12 chicken and fry basket was not even warm.Snow: The snow is good for this time of the season and nicely groomed. While Gore is a better mountain geographically, if you are looking for a relaxed, clean, respectable ski center with friendly staff in NY I would recommend Belleayre.
Best NY ski resort close to Albany, with a gondola, plenty of high speed chair lifts and excellent snow making/grooming operations. Family friendly, yet plenty of challenging terrain. It seldom seems overcrowded, as there are plenty of lifts and runs.Keep up the great work!
One of the two big ski mountains in the Adirondacks. When conditions are good with natural snow, this place is awesome. They have a ton of glades. It really takes about a full three days to hit all the areas, with all the different mountain faces. In re operations, unlike most other mountains, they dont have signs up specifically when certain chairlifts close, but it follows the generic formula. Longer glade trails are closed by 3pm or so, and more remote chairlifts are closed around 3:30-3:45, base chairs at 4. Be warned, there is almost no cell service on the mountain, even at the base lodge area. So if youre doing e-tickets or similar, print out or download beforehand. They offer free wifi, but connecting to it was a bit quirky and took multiple attempts for it to work.
Best Mountain in NY state! AFFORDABLE, with better trials, super fun mountain. Just don’t expect the amenities of the mega posh resorts built more for hanging out in restaurants & shopping more than being on the mountain. Great mountain the way they used to be and should be!
We went up for a day trip! It was fantastic! The large mountain handles the crowds even on a holiday weekend such that the lines arent that long anywhere! The conditions were phenomenal! Wed definitely go back. Just wish they didnt close at 4. We could have kept going
Gore is a great mountain to spend multiple days at. Its expansive enough to keep you interested even on day three of a long weekend without the flood of crowds at some smaller resorts to the south. It does take a little bit of local knowledge or advanced planning to avoid having to hike across the flat areas too frequently but the varied terrain and sheer volume of skiable areas makes it worth the extra little bit of research.
Gore is probably the best slope in NY. Whiteface is roughly the same size, but Gores conditions are usually better. The slope is very comparable to Sugarbush, VT, in terms of mountain stats such as acres, trails, lifts and vert. The knock on Gore is its lack of a base village/resort, which youll find at many of the central VT slopes.
Mountain is a beautiful place, home away from home. Love the area but the staff and managers have no clue what they are doing, blind leading the blind. Lazy coworkers make jobs 10x harder than they should be. Fun place to ride or ski but thats about where it ends. McDonalds pays more and had less drama than this dump.
Gore is a great place for no frills skiing. There is a great variety of terrain, from beginner rolling hills, to steeps and glades. Some lifts could use an upgrade, but they are reliable and rarely break down. Lifties are friendly and the upgraded Saddle lodge is a plus. If you explore beyond the gondola, you can find lifts without long lines, even on the busiest of days. Great local treasure
Gore is awesome!! The mountain has more personality than most on the east coast, you can spend an entire day and not ski the same trail twice- there are tons of hidden gems. This mountain has a little bit of something for everyone- gentle wide groomers, lots of trees, bumps, jumps, some of the steepest trails in the East, anything you could ask for! Not to mention, its not overly commercial, it has stayed true to its roots. After skiing, I highly recommend getting a Common Roots IPA in the new Tannery Pub at the Base Lodge. Cant recommend Gore enough for skiiers.
My local mountain. Definatly good for all levels of skiing and snow boarding. I guess the one thing I can say I love about this mountain is I can go all the way to the top and ski or board to the bottom. Food and drink are all good here but the pricing could be better. It is a very busy mountain but that just justifies how good the conditions and staff here are.
One of the Northeasts finest family friendly ski areas. Wide variation in terrain make for a full day of skiing without much repeat. Actually composed of four mountains, connected to the upper and lower mid-stations. Gondola and quad high speed chair service mid-stations. Large base lodge with bar and cafeteria style food. A bit pricey, but the soups are excellent. Base area has ski school, ski shop, ski rental and repair shop. Mid-station lodge has a selection of food from the main lodge menu. Soup still great. High Peaks area has intermediate and expert trails with Rumor as the one of the steepest in the Northeast.
Conditions were good for December 6th. One issue. We arrived around 8 AM we were one of the first few in line for the gondola at the opening time and waited for 30 to 40 minutes in line before we were loaded on the gondola. I understand that there are things that need to be done to keep everyone safe. Do this before opening time and dont keep people waiting in line getting cold. The improvements at Gore look very nice. Time will tell. New York state taxes at work.
Not a ton of new snow the day I went but they still had a bunch of good runs open. With enough snow Gore is a 5 out 5 for sure! They were also sorting out some issues they were having with the gondola the day I went. Had a lot of fun even though it was sunny and nearly 40°.
First time at Gore. The mountain and staff are really great but, as per most ski mountains, etc, the food and drink are grossly overpriced. The road up to the mountain can get really snowy and slippery so make sure you have snow tires or all wheel drive. We had snow tires and struggled getting up the mountain. My only complaint was watching plow trucks drive up the mountain road with their plows up as numerous people struggled with the snow.
I have been skiing at Gore on and off for the last 48 years. I also often ski many other places in the northeast. Gore is like home, comfortable. You need to come here more then once to realize all it has to offer. The variety of trails is one of the best assets. REAL steeps or narrow old time trails or wide beginner trails or cruisers are all here. Every trail has a different feel unlike some mountains in another state nearby. Try it more then once and you will learn to love it
Outstanding...all types of trails to choose from with lots of variety and well groomed. We went on a Thursday and spent the entire day there and had a great experience; definitely going back. Only thing I recommend is bring your own lunch; food is a bit pricey and not great.
Gore Mountain has become our family ski destination! We relocated from the Binghamton area, to the Saratoga area, where we skied at Elk Mountain and Greek Peak. Gore is so three dimensional in comparison! We love the terrain across the entire mountain. We are advanced skiers and were able to find challenges all around the mountain. Our kids, ages 6 and 4, also love the mountain. They are in Mountain Adventure, a 6 week intensive lesson program, which is amazing. Its my older childs second year in this and we can say the staff, and their ability to teach our kids to ski, are amazing! Some wishes we had would be to more aggressively make snow and to let some runs bump up a bit more! Small things in the grand scheme. Were lucky to be close enough to enjoy Gore!
We went on the coldest day of the season, it felt -26 F, they had all but the slowest and shortest lift shut so it kind of felt like they only stayed open so that they didnt need to refund us. Also, someone took my skis and poles and only returned the skis, but the resort helped find my skis. Good skiing overall, the gandala is great too.
Best area in NY hands down. wide variety of terrain, great passholder deals, reasonable food prices for a ski area, and good food with a wide variety. Not many extra amenities like hotels or shops which makes the mountain perfect for people who actually want to ski. crowds are rarely bad, and great conditions. They even did a great job in the 2015-16 season when the natural snowfall practically didnt exist.
A world-class ski area in every aspect. Has plenty of terrain for novice to expert skiier. Wide cruising trails to very steep, to long novice trails, to terrain park trails, and lots of glades. Have skied here for 40+ years. It has constantly improved with the times and technology. NYS has really done well to provide this level of recreation for its citizens.
Lots of ski trails, good variety from beginner to double black, and moderately priced. The gondola is nice when it is bitterly cold. Not a great apres-ski place but excellent if you want to do a lot of skiing. Food is decent and fairly priced compared to the dozen of other resorts Ive skied. Try their veggie chili. They just totally rebuilt the Saddleback Lodge which is ~1/2 way up. Much needed, esp. the WW2 era restrooms. Double the size of before and great view ! Also new warming lodge at top of Straight Brook chair.
Ive been skiing here for over 20 years, my dad for over 35 years. If the snow is good, the skiing is good. Get on the trail and have fun before noon, due to our east coast weather we tend to get solid packed snow in the afternoon and the worse skiiers scrape all the good stuff off. If the snow is rock solid, ski once the sun pops out. Itll soften up enough to get a good edge in.Pro tip: if it is the afternoon, ski on the edges of the trail. All of the snow from the middle ends up there!Pro tip 2: Stay on the trails during the 11:30-1pm on the nice days. Everyone heads down for lunch then and you get the trails all to yourself!
Ive been to almost all the ski mountains in the north east but this was the first time I went to Gore (March 2017) and I was very pleased with this mountain. The conditions were great which makes a big difference, but this place is better than Hunter and compares to many of the mountains in Vermont. The parking lot is a little bit of a mess so it PAYS to arrive early.
This place has gone downhill in the past few years. Perfect trails closed because ski patrol knows best but dont worry theyll keep skiing them just to evaluate the status..nope cant open yet, lifts and trails opening after 11am, and constant lift malfunctions. Oh but dont worry, your tax dollars are being put to great use.
My family has been skiing here sincw I was 4. At that time they were execlent with me and my family. This weekend we planned a family trip back there to have 3 generations ski together. It was my mom, me, my wife, her brother , my brother and his family of 6, and my daughter. We had some people rent and others including my daughter take lessons. All of the staff was great!!!!! it was just like old times. The lodge and bathrooms are very clean and some one is always cleaning! the newer terrain on the mountain they have opened up is added fun to a great mountain. we went presideants day weekend. we skied friday and there was no one there. we skied on sunday and there was a good croud but lift lines I was on were no longer than 5 minutes.I love this mountain and thank you to the courteous staff!
I wouldnt go again, we got free tickets...figured give it a shot. Well I snowboard and I spent more walking on the trail than boarding. Most connected trails go up hill, which makes no sense... and the hills leading to them are not steep enough to get enough speed to get up the connector trails. I un-strapped and walked to the lifts.... I would say its good hill for beginners, as the trails green and blue were all like must beginner lever. I was to frustrated to do more runs and didnt try any of the diamond. Basically over all unless you are a skier, I would say go to whiteface over this mountain.
Surely the Best ski resort upstate NY. Id favor it to Killington (Vermont) because it is way less crowded. Excellent runs, good snow quality and has a park, which is worth going.Good variety of choices for lunch or snacks. If parked a little further, free transportation is provided by the resort.
The mountain is nice, but I personally didnt have to much of a good experience with the place.. I left my only shoes in the rental area and it turned out that the shoes were stolen after me only having worn them like 3 times prior. So you could imagine how wonderful it must of been to go to the car when there was snow everywhere.. So I would recomend to watch out for your belongings. Other then that I didnt have any problems with anything but that they didnt have lights on the mountain for late night skiing, and that the one green trail basically runs flat for a while so all snowboarders will thing the treck a whole ton harder if you go on the left side green trails.
Went to Gore for the 1st time this past Presidents Day weekend! You can’t beat the views! Checked out Sunway, Pete Gay, & Tahawus Trails. Breakfast was pretty at the cafe (2 sunny side ups, home fries, & toast). Definitely will be back!Pro tip: for weekends, arrive between 7-730am so you get a nice spot up front. Thankfully we did that because we did not want to end up parking down the street like many do.
Best trails in NY and renovations to the saddle lodge are awesome, really great job, more room and better seating. Also, the new lodge at the top is really nice, glad they used that old gondola offload building this way. Now with these renovations can compete with all mountains in the Northeast. Must ski.
Mixed opinion. 12/31 experience for my spouse was awful. 1st time training run by instructor Bill was unprofessional, useless and looks like he doesnt care. Im questioning now if it it a company policy to engage hiring private lessons instructor. However, on Jan 2nd, my spouse had another instructor Peter, for the second day skiing training, and Peter was great. After 90 mins training, my wife told me she wants a private lesson with Peter and we proceed with that. Outcome is my wife liked skiing, she enjoyed.........................................................................2 management: consider a better way to assess your employees. It affects your business. Unmotivated personal like Bill will make hating your resort. Employees like Peter will bring excitement from your clients and additional income. Being a manager of 200+ employees, Id suggest to fire Bill and instructors like him and promote instructors like Peter, who cares of your customers.
Great East Coast snow experience. People were all friendly, low cost for the size of the resort. Went on a Tuesday and there were no crowds. The tbar is ideal for someone learning and the gondola provides a lot of options. Great parking! Kind of pricy for the rental though.
Great place with all levels welcome. Only reason for 4 star instead of 5 is that the amount of people visiting on a holiday weekend wasnt properly mitigated. Stopped at the pub to eat lunch and it took an hour and a half to get our food, which ate into our time on the slopes.
Gore is awesome, and I reluctantly write this glowing review as Id rather keep the crowd away from it. The lack of crowd is its best secret. As for as facilities go, its comparable to most VT resorts in trails area and maintenance, the gondola is far better than the one at Stratton for ex which is a private resort, where Gore is state owned. The latter is the reason for the crowds not flocking, because the state will not develop it as a full blown resort that will accommodate large crowds, and Id rather have it that way. And if dont mind staying at motels or 3 stars hotels, then youll love Gore.
Needs more high speed lifts!! The lifts are dated, although there is one gondola (which was closed due to frozen doors) and one high speed lift. The rest are slow lifts. boo. But the mountain was great. Lots of variety in runs, largest acreage in NY. I plan to come back when the conditions are better. But seriously, needs more high speed lifts!!
With three kids and flu around its hard to buy tickets in advance. We looked at pricing during the week (Friday) and it was showing 4 lift tickets were $160 (for the following Wednesday) so we decided to wait until Tuesday to buy Wednesday tickets for $160 as web did showed us, to find out they raised the price Tuesday to $194.
Gore is a secret big east coast mountain that is only 3 1/2 hours from NYC but has the size, conditions and vertical of Vermont mountains that are 5 hours away! That saves 3 hours of driving on a weekend trip. With that said, the mountain is 5 star, but the town is a 3. Not a lot of options for lodging or restaurants like other big ski resorts.
I love Gore because of the terrain diversity. Even on a crowded day, you can find a lift without a heavy line. Theres something there for everyone including several lengthy glade trails, which are arguably the best in the Northeast. There are beginner trails as well and a plethora of more challenging blacks.
Has visited twice during the summer. Gondola ride and mountain top view is great! Close to Lake George so it becomes a must visit while planning for Lake George! Had children play area $15 per hour which i feel is bit over priced but parking is free. Cafe is not good with very limited choices.
The gondola ride was a blast and the view from the top was awesome but there wasnt anything else to do at the site for an adult. No restaurant or entertainment 2 out of 5. Take the time and drive to White Face. Do both the gondola and the drive to the top. If you only pick one, drive to the top of White Face. Amazing, spectacular, wow
The mountain has some great trails for the east coast. Todays conditions were a little icy, but generally the trails are interesting and cater to a all levels. Its about 4.5-5 hours from NYC. Be weary, the rental staff is a little disorganized, but still super nice people.
Great mountain when the snow is right.I have visited Gore 5-6 times now and always avoid unless there has been fresh snow. It is very icy but when there has been a dump of snow, its probably one of the best mountains in New York. Facilities are little outdated but it keeps the prices reasonable. This wont be for long as Como has vowed to pump $20m into Gore and Whiteface over the next few years.
So I went to gore mt for the first time on 12/30/16 and it will be the last time! The ski patrol is EXTREMELY RUDE! All the staff there is rude other then the rental shop, the price for a lift ticket it not even close to worth the price. $83 the the trails suck here! Its not a very fun place to ski. Im definitely never going back! DONT WASTE YOUR MONEY!!! GO TO KILLINGTON VT OR SOME PLACE ELSE!!! I wish I could leave a zero star
One of my favorite mountains on the east coast. My kids are 5 & 7 and it is their first real mountain. They have been skiing since they were 1.5 years old. I love Brittany and their bar/restaurant Tannery is wonderful. Lots of choices for somewhere so seasonal. My background includes Zermatt, St. Anne, Lake Tahoe, Park City, most of New York/Mass/Vermont/NewHampshire and Sunday River. If you dont know where these are then dont leave a bad review and go try some of these out and then do a review. Happy Trails!
For an east coast mountain Gore more than lives up to expectations. With the new summit lodge you can ski or snowboard on the top of the mountain all afternoon and still have a place to return to for lunch. Most lifts and trails are open throuout the season and they are maintained properly. More Gore!!!
My husband and I skied almost every Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday of Feb and March 2014. We were extremely happy with the grooming. The personnel were all delightfully friendly. We were surprised at the excellent quality of the food and ate our breakfast there each morning before hitting the slopes. When the weather was very cold...like zero and below the personnel were very attentive to warning us to keep all skin covered. This was our first year of skiing at Gore and we will make it our main mountain next season. We are not diamond skiers but ski all the blues and find that there is more than enough variety to keep us happy. The lodge is huge with plenty of space to hang your ski bags. On the negative side, we wished that the North Quad lift was open every day.We wish that on nights that it snows that the grooming would be accomplished in the early morning hours rather than the night before. The other negative is that there is no fireplace in the main lodge. But there is a lovely one at Saddle Lodge (halfway lodge). The ski season was the best ever in spite of a rainy early January. We hold a season pass for the 3 ORDA run ski resorts. We regularly ski at Belleayre but did not make it to Whiteface this season. We are retired and never ski holidays or weekends.Bart and Marilyn

2022-02-28Gore has been a favorite of mine since I was a kid in the 80s. The mountain has continued to expand and improve every single year and as an adult with kids of my own I couldnt be happier to have all of us consider it to be our home mountain even though we live 4 hours away. Never leave disappointed even when the weather isnt in our favor. When it is its even better! Varied trails makes for an adventurous day for everyone. Bonus, the food is the most reasonably priced I know of in a ski resort. Highly recommend everyone check this place out and see if its a good fit for your family.

2022-03-01Gore Mountain is a wonderful family friendly ski/snowboard resort! The mountain was great, lines were short on Sunday and non existent Monday! The slopes were not crowded at all, in fact there were more than one run that we felt like we were the only ones on the run! Plan out your runs especially if you are a snowboarder as some places are flat if youre trying to get to a specific location or trail on the mountain. Staff was incredibly friendly, helpful and kind! The restrooms were clean! The gift shop was out of stickers to purchase, so she sent us to guest service and they gave my kiddos each two stickers for their helmets. Absolutely wonderful experience, we can not wait to return!

2021-12-28By far the nicest staff we have come across while traveling. They were to accommodating to our last minute scheduling to ski and getting me into a lesson. Mark and Maria O. are by far some the kindness and most encouraging individuals. I know they just want people to enjoy skiing and snowboarding. The rental guys were AMAZING! We had an issue with my boots from a place in town not being correct, they were quick to help fix the problem. My husband, enjoyed all the different types of slopes and never felt like he did the same one twice.

2022-02-12Gore mountain may not be the best known of the ski areas, but it is one of the biggest and best in the East. There are many trails with all levels of difficulty, they have snow making, but it is limited in how much terrain they can cover in one day. Go to Gore when natural snow is good, which is pretty often. The north face holds the snow, but it is cold. The gondola has medium to difficult trails. The accommodations and restaurants have been improving over the years, and you should find something to your liking. A friendly easy going atmosphere is always present and it is easy to get to from the Northway, I-87, lift tickets are affordable.

2022-02-12The best mountain I’ve skied in NY!Caught some awesome conditions so factor that in, but the terrain here is top notch. Great glades and steeps. And tons for the family and beginners.Layout reminded me of a smaller mountain out west. Several different faces and peaks all connected.Base lodge was spacious, tons of room for gear and lunch. Ticket kiosks were also super fast and convenient.Don’t miss the tacos at the saddle lodge. 🤌🏻

2022-02-14I had my first lesson today and it was amazing! My instructor, Liam, was a wonderful teacher and incredibly encouraging. I feel that I did really well because of the instruction and I actually did so good skiing for my first time I went on some green trails and had so much fun!

2022-03-05I called Gore on Saturday March 5 and was treated very rudely by the person at lost and found. First of all, she didnt didnt say anything when first taking the call and after a few seconds I got hello. I told her I was inquiring about a lost pair of goggles. She replied we dont keep goggles. That is all she said. She sounded annoyed. I then asked her about it and she said they keep only jackets and such. I said what becomes of the goggles and she finally said they are put in the barrel. I am fairly new to skiing, and I had never been to Gore before this week, so where is the barrel located. She said next to the lost and found desk. (I didnt notice any such barrel when I was there). I then said that I just want to be sure I understand correctly, to recover my goggles I need to driver over to Gore and search the lost and found barrel. (I always do this on the phone, just to confirm). All I needed was a response of yes, thats correct, or simply a yes, and that would have ended the call. Instead, she replied we only keep coats and such at the desk. I said I am not questioning that, and Im sure your policy is reasonable, I just want to confirm that if the lost goggles were turned in I need to go to Gore and check the barrel. All she need to.do was confirm,, but her reply was goodbye, and she hung up.I had placed the phone call a few minutes before 4pm, I didnt realize Gore closed at 4. But that is no reason for her abruptly ending my call. One other thing, I had previously called Gore several times over the past couple days and asked for lost and found and nobody ever picked up when I was transferred.

2022-02-09Great mountain with varied terrain. Plenty of quirky glades to enjoy. Challenging diamonds for the expert skiiers. Definitely a must ski, especially after some great snowfall. Ski instructors are also very helpful and information, especially for those looking to improve.

2021-12-20Always love coming to Gore, partly because of the terrain, and partly because the staff is so wonderful. Not that I travel the world to ski/ride or anything, but I think Gore has the best lift operators! They are always super friendly and helpful for beginners, after only one season many of them now greet me by name. When fully open there are usually secluded areas for a more relaxed pace, and the glades can be a real blast!

2022-03-02Seriously Gore! You have such a great mountain to ski on but you have to do something about your food services. We spent two hours in the Tannery before we got our food. We witnessed the wait staff being hostel and confrontational with other gusts. It took 30 minutes before menus arrived and then another hour for the food to show up. The food was not well prepared and completely undercooked. I was there to ski, not to sit in a restaurant with mean waitresses and undercooked food. Taking into account that Covid may have been partly to blame due to restaurant being short staffed. They should still warn people of delays and wait times. Im sneaking in sandwiches next time I go up.
