Totally awesome store, prices arent cheap but the stuff here is epic, if you like dressing up in interesting ways.
It was my first visit to Gothic Renaissance and my boyfriend and I were looking for Halloween costumes. It started out very pleasant, one of the employees helped us both out and was so nice. I ended up buying a corset. When I was paying, another employee was at checkout and I politely asked for the name of the one who helped us out just so I could thank them properly and I know who to ask for if I ever come back to the store again since nice, helpful people in retail are very hard to come by in NYC. That employee responded with an accusatory tone answering “Oh that’s MY GIRLFRIEND”…that kind of animosity was unwarranted. Rating my experience 3 stars because that kind of ruined it for me :( Other than that, the store was great, all products were of high quality. I just hope they check on employees who aren’t the best when dealing with customers.

Very cool things for people who like well made items! Tried on a corset and was actually fitted properly and treated very well! Learned the proper size for me to wear, over all extremely helpful and wonderful staff. Will be returning soon.Bring a good card or cash, prices are moderate to moderately high but reasonable. You are getting very good quality corsets, costumes, shoes, dresses , bdsm outfits, jewelry and accessories. The steampunk goggles I posted are 120$ four reference
Amazing clothing such goth, steam punk, fetish, ren faire, and so many unique accessories. Two full walls of corsets & waist cinchers. Petticoats, bustle skirts, poet style shorts, top hats, Victorian style dresses, goggles, masks, crowns, shoestring & boots, rings, necklaces, leather, vinyl, chainmail and so much more. I had a lot of fun here.
This store is great and amazing with a wide range of things from accessories to stockings. A-S. 😂 The staff is also wonderful and ready to assist.
Its reopening! Hope the boots and daily goth clothing can be restocked soon. (cuz now there r mostly holloween costume). The staffs will help u measure ur size n guide u to try on the corset, which is incredible.
Dopest place Ive ever seen. Huge, has everything you can think of, but expensive af (or it could be all the cool/goth stuff are expensive) Its quite an experience itself to just go inside and look around.
It was once the greatest store in NYC.It had fabulous clothes & awesome shoes.The workers were really nice.So sad to see it go though😔
Expensive and one employee was super rude , however the other one was super respectful and nice. I understand being overwhelmed by the amount of customers coming in and out due to Halloween being the next day but it shouldn’t be taken out on the client’s. Learn not to bark at people for no reason. However one of the other employees were really nice.

Costumes are ok but extremely overpriced even for Manhattan. They were charging $600 for a top hat somehow. Most stuff was somewhat a normal price but that specific item was ridiculous. Order from Amazon or basically anywhere if youre not desperate.
I found my favorite types of accessories and styles. I actually wouldnt mind working there.
Love this store. My bestie and I would go all the time. It’s seem like you can only find a store this authentic here in the city. They have a great selection of gothic attire. When ever they have a sale I just can’t help myself. I’ve bought so many great unique items for Halloween there. If you need that one special thing for your horror film, I have a feeling they would have it.
Hands down the most honest, friendly, easy to talk to and overall best store owner/manager(maybe manager too?) that I have met! PLUS they have the greatest selection of Gothic, club, lingerie, fetish clothing, dub dress up clothing, as well as accessories, bras, underwear.. And SHOES. oh my. I left with 3 pairs! Thats a very heavy load there if you know the shoes they sell. The store is also large with a Great variety of styles, price range, unique prices and even some. Local designer clothing and accessories. Just be careful.. One could totally empty their bank account there due to how amazing everything is!
Sold me a cracked mask a night before the Halloween for $85 + tax!!! Won’t come here anymore. They have no return policy and don’t even bother to print the receipt out!
Fantastic store for my fellow darklings. They stock many brands. They feature all Gothic styles from Victorian to raver to punk. The staff are great and very sweet. I definitely recommend getting fitted for a corset while youre there, its something everyone should experience at some point. Everyone is welcome and no one is judged.
Cool stuff and nice staff, but Im a bit disappointed with what I got and especially with what my friend got. He spent 20 bucks on a choker that had its chain break before we even left the store, they were kind and fixed it for us, but then 10 minutes after wed left the pentagram on it fell off making it just a velvet ribbon with a chain connection in the back. Its also really expensive, do some research before you buy, a lot can be bought cheaper elsewhere.

Great shop for the goth and the extravaganza people at medium level: too much for beginners and too common for experienced ones.Little bit overwhelmed by all the things hanging around.Unfortunately they dont have much selection for bigger sizes.Stuff is very friendly and helpful. Let you try out what you want (of course you have to be friendly as well).Specially appriciate the extra person at the fitting rooms: comes very handy if you try corsets. ;-)
The best store in Manhattan, not only is the staff dedicated to your time and style they make you feel welcomed. Shopping here feels like its your closet and they guide you on what to wear to execute your final form. Bless this store ♥ ps if you have any brand suggestions tell them, they take there clients very seriously and will do research on the brand. Stitch is the man!!!! ♥
You dont know it yet but you need something in this store. This cave of wonders has everything from super elegant little period dresses to thoroughly kinky leather items of every variety. The sales people are all really into the lifestyle/mood of the store and they make it really easy to navigate. ZERO judgment in here and only positive things to say!

What an amazing store! I bought a beautiful corset there for 50% off. Sadly, I was told the store is closing 5ever in February. Which is very sad indeed.
Beautiful assortment of stuff!! It actually has battle equipment including a monster hunting gauntlet that comes with a real silver bullet!!! And for those on a budget without the need for authenticity theres great steampunk+ accessories and outfits eventually leaning into more adult paraphanalia
I love this place so much, it speaks to my soul. Ive been in here so many times and havent bought anything yet (it is a bit pricey but I expected no less) but the staff are friendly and happy to help in any way! If I were rich Id only buy clothing from here and no where else
Passed this place too many times without going in. Instantly regretted that once I did. Its everything I wish I could find elsewhere. Staff are all super helpful, it is a tad busy during Halloween season, but still worth the visit. Definitely need to come back more often.
They have everything you could ever want---but pricey! They dont play around. I primarily came for the corsets and they were all approximately between $75 - $200, $150 was the most common. I also looked through the petticoats which were fantastic quality but also around $150. I wound up buying a corset and decided since my petticoat will go under my dress for my costume, I dont need the best of the best. If you want quality though, go here! Just make sure youre willing to spend a pretty penny.
The store is best thought of as an extension of the (fabulous) costume store next door; while the atmosphere is great and theres a lot of stuff, much of it is expensive and/or cheaply made and straight from taobao; Ive heard people apply the pejorative mall goth to the place. But still, theres a good selection, the clerks are helpful, and if you really need attire for the peanut butter dance and dont want to go searching it out online, its a fine place to go. Good makeup collection, too.
I dont know if Halloween adventure and Gothic renaissance are owned by the same company but they had no problem ringing me up for an item from Halloween adventure since the store was closed for a video shoot. Either way, very satisfied with the customer service.
I bought a dope masquerade mask from here. They have really cool pieces from corsets, to masks, to jewelry, to headdresses... whatever, you name it. Service was friendly and very helpful also.
Excellent staff. Tremendous inventory of incredibly hot club clothing. Whether youre looking to do goth darkwave cyberpunk sexy or scary they can outfit you.
This place is a thieves den. People only come here to steal. Tried something on the other week and someone snuck into my bag and stole $200 cash out of my wallet. I took my eyes off my bag for 2 minutes and my money was gone. I will never be coming back here. I called when I found out my money was missing and asked if they could check the surveillance cameras, they said they would, but I never heard a word back from them. They dont care about their customers.And some of the things they sell are loose pieces from other costumes from the Halloween store next door. I saw a piece that was on sale for $30 and went next door and found the full costume for the same price.Either you get robbed by the store or you get robbed by one of the regular thieves. Dont go here Amazon is way better.
This place has a variety of wonderful outfits from goth, steampunk to all kinds of burning man and intimate gear. The staff is generally helpful, although it can get quite busy around Halloween. The one note I would say is that it is quite pricey. If you want cheaper costumes, its easy enough to go next door. The quality of Gotham Renaissance products is quite high.
What a great store this is..Manager Stitch and Julia top it off being so customer friendly especially when helping pic out items for your girlfriends.This store has amazing items too...In usually spend lots of time here deciding what to buy....and just end up buying many items...The sales staff all have a very cool look and dress so perfectly for this store...Kudos!!
A medium sized place but well packed with various things to wear or display. It is located next to the Halloween store, so youre going to have fun looking and/or buying stuff.

The content is filled with Goth and Halloween clothing, etc. Unfortunately, I ran into a very lazy and disrespectful sales clerk. Hope shes not there any more. The management needs to pay more attention to who they hire. The other staff was ok, but this last experience left a very bad taste in my mouth.

Great store, but the only reason I gave 4 starts is because of the behavior of one of the venders ( a sloppy, rude, chubby, long green hair lazy bum, sitting at the front countertop who was offending every customer).

A nice cosplay store. Take a bit note - most items are sized in Asia(L size = S). Do not buy anything without trying it on.
The clothes are effing cool. Great place to get things for a dark renaissance festival or a steampunk convention. Also plenty of platform footwear.
This store is dope and has an awesome selection of stuff... Stuff is quite expensive...but should be expected as its more of an eclectic boutique rather than a regular store...
The stuff here is sort of pricey (as is the way with this style), but there is a lot of it, and its all so gorgeous to look at. They even have some killer boots to go with your goth chic.
Great store, if you like shopping here just avoid Halloween season.
They will bend over backwards to get you in a corset and (despite inital appearances) are VERY plus size friendly.

For the median price of one of their corsets you could buy the entire discography of The Sisters of Mercy in the deluxe vinyl reissue. Get your goth priorities in order.

2022-07-11Such a cool store to visit. They have a wide selection of goth and alternative clothing and accessories and its actually a pretty large store, especially for being in New York and more of a niche type of store. The staff is also really nice.

2022-04-13Just came from a wonderful first time visit to this store we got called away early for work but will be back the first chance we get!!! I was helped by an amazing person named Lilly she helped me with corsets and figuring out what worked for me! I will likely always get my corsets here from now on this store was very friendly and welcoming and I could geek out and be myself in there! I can not thank Lilly enough! You now have two new loyal customers!!

2022-05-15It was my first time visiting this shop. I didnt want to shop for my special birthday outfit from an online shop. You really need to be in a shop physically to try out corsets. The staff were very patient and friendly. I had to try on quite a few dresses. Their prices are very fair. Some reviews of the shop being expensive just shows that ppl know squat about lace, corset boning or brocade. I bought a corset dress for hot weather. Stan was such an amazing person along with the rest of the staff. I didnt get their names. I will definitely be going back there.

2022-05-18Went in with my boyfriend to look for new pieces to add to our wardrobe. One of the employees, Faith, was super helpful with taking down accessories for us to try on and eventually getting my boyfriend fitted for a corset. She gave us so many tips on proper maintenance and styling of corsets which made us both feel much less daunted at the prospect of getting into corsetry! Great selection and awesome service.

2022-03-06I was so excited to finally get the chance to viset this store. Im not from NY and theres nothing like this where I live which makes it so hard to get cloths especially shoes! Trying to order shoes online or cloths in general is a pain.I had such high hopes for this store and it did not let me down at all they have everything a goth could want and I mean actual goth stuff not that hottopic cheap stuff.Stan was great! He showed us around the shop and helped me with the shoes.He was also very polite.I love my shoes so much I changed them on the train to wear home and I cant wait to wear them to work tomorrow my clients are gonna love them.

2022-05-13Expensive and a bit of a limited selection but wonderful items! I’ve made a few purchases here and the staff was always super friendly and helpful, and the corsets I bought have held up well after many wears.

2022-06-16Meh I cant decide if its a three or a two. Its a really cool spot with fun products. But the staff (at least when I went back in December) were so judgemental...it felt like high school again where I was being judged for the most shallow reasons. Ive always loved goth aesthetic/lifestyle but 1) never had the confidence to pull it off 2) had middle eastern immigrant parents who flat out refused to wear it growing up. I have managed several bookstores, airhead or professor, prep or goth idgaf, all are welcome...Im ranting now. Anyways, just beware when youre going into the store...its not just rbf.
