A colleague recommended that I go to see Dave Ricci at GCPT after I injured my wrist and boy am I glad I took her up on that suggestion. From the very first phone call, I knew this was a great office. Both Allison and Deborah were so friendly and helpful, and then when I met Dave, he assured me that while my injury was a bit more unusual than most, he would have be typing and using my hand in a couple months time - and he was absolutely right. He explained each thing he did and answered all of my questions. He helped me build back strength gradually, and always emphasized that I shouldnt feel pain - it was great not having someone tell me I needed to push through pain. And Dave even got me stronger overall! These past couple of months have been so helpful - thank you to Dave, Deborah, and Allison. Highly recommend you go to these wonderful professionals!
I have been working with Dave since shortly after surgery on my wrist and have found him to be an excellent therapist and just as important to me, hes a good person to work with. He listened to my concerns and worked with me to get my wrist strong and flexible enough that I can take yoga and ride my bike, both of which my surgeon was unsure of. His professionalism and easy going manner made the visit appear to fly by while still doing all the necessary work to get me to where I wanted to be. Thank you DAVE
Dave was absolutely amazing in every way. I underwent a major wrist surgery and spent almost 6 months with Dave. His level of expertise and high quality therapy sessions was incredible and made my recovery the best possible experience I could ask for. He was super flexible with my schedule and created a completely customized recovery plan just for me. He was always available if I needed to ask questions after hours and went the extra mile to follow up with me and make sure I was progressing throughout my recovery. I thought the most amazing thing was that my surgeon would tell me whatever Dave thinks at my follow up appointments when asking about the progress or pace of my recovery. That truly shows the level of care I was receiving. I recommend Dave to everyone who needs help.
The care and expertise of Dave Ricci at GCPT changed the quality of my life after falling. In April, I fell while roller skating and the result was surgery for a broken wrist and shattered humerus. As a very active person , I wondered if I would have my normal life back. After 4 months of extensive therapy with Dave, the answer is YES!At each stage of healing, Dave provided expert therapies, explained how they would bring strength to my arm again, and modeled how to do exercises at home. He listened and understood the emotional impact that comes with pain, immobility, and its effect on daily life.Everyone wants the very best to provide care, and Dave is that person!! He is a true professional. Because of his kind, positive personality, I always looked forward to our sessions. He loves his profession and those in his care are the benefactors.Dave set the bar because of his knowledge and understanding of my needs, and I could not be happier with my recovery.
I went to see Dave Ricci at Grand Central Physical Therapy after hand surgery for trigger finger. Dave is exceptionally knowledgeable and compassionate in his treatment. Dave used a variety of methods in the office as well as instructions for at home to maximize my rehabilitation and the results were amazing. It was a pleasure to go to the office (the staff is lovely and helpful) and Dave, besides being a consummate hand therapist, is a genuinely kind person. I highly recommend Dave and GC Physical Therapy.
I highly recommend Dave Ricci of Grand Central Physical Therapy. I started physical therapy with Dave following my wrist surgery. Not only was I extremely satisfied with the results- for recovery of both movement and strength - Dave happens to be an exceptional person who is a pleasure to work with. He is patient and takes the time to fully explain exercises that you need to do at home.
I cannot think of a better place then Grand Central Physical & Hand Therapy for excellent rehab in an enormously healing environment. Ive worked with David twice now after two different hand surgeries and he is meticulous in his healing craft and genuinely caring for all his patients. My visits to rehab with David were indeed, the best part of my days. The location is super convenient and the staff is like no other! I would highly recommend Grand Central Physical & Hand Therapy! Look no further for highly educated therapists and genuinely caring human beings.
Ive been working with David Ricci on my hand for the last several months and he is excellent! David has a great positive attitude that encourages you to never get discouraged during rehab and is a great conversationalist that made rehab a lot more enjoyable. He really helped in increasing my range of motion in my hand and wrist after surgery as well as minimized my scar tissue.
Trust the great reviews you are seeing here – Dave is a top-notch therapist. I saw him for several months to recover from carpal tunnel and overuse of my hands/wrists. The entire experience was flawless; the office and staff are lovely. Dave is a patient, kind and compassionate human being who listens and works with you to find the path to recovery. My condition improved completely and I am grateful to have been his patient. 10000% recommended.
Having injured my left hand in an accident, I went to Grand Central Physical Therapy and had physio sessions with David Ricci, who was excellent in his work, extremely considerate and very thorough in how he managed the recovery process. He made me do a number of exercises in each session and over a period of time (about three months) managed my expectations while urging me to continue to exercise my hand (in and outside clinic) towards a complete recovery. I am most grateful to David and Grand Central Physical Therapy for their superlative level of professional care and attention.
My surgeon recommended Dave Ricci for physical therapy after I had my left wrist reconstructed. I dont think I could have had a better experience than I had with Dave. He addressed the physical aspects of the recovery with great knowledge and skill. Most importantly, he exuded confidence and managed my expectations in a very straightforward way. I would not hesitate to offer my highest recommendation of Dave for anyone in need of excellent and professional physical therapy.
Ive been seeing David Ricci for physical therapy after wrist surgery for a scaphoid fracture and it has been a fantastic experience with great results. David is patient, knowledgeable, and passionate about getting his patients back in great shape. Going to physical therapy became something I looked forward to every week as I knew I was in great hands and great company. I very highly recommend David!
David at Grand Central Hand Therapy was recommended to me by my orthopedic surgeon, and I am so incredibly grateful for the referral. Not only is everyone in the office a joy to see on a regular basis, David is hands down the best physical therapist I have ever encountered. He is patient, understanding, an excellent communicator, and above all, phenomenal at what he does. I will be forever thankful for the help he has given me in my recovery. If you need a PT, go here.
Just finished up my PT sessions for two non-displaced fractures in my wrist with Dave Ricci. Dave has been both an incredible help and resource to me as I attempt to rehabilitate my wrist back to normal. Dave has that unique hybrid skill-set of being very good at his craft as well as always being hospitable and friendly. He always knew exactly how to get the best results through the right exercises. I would highly recommend his services to anyone in need of PT.
This review is for David Ricci // Hand/occupational therapist at Grand Central PT.Ive saw Dave for 7 months after a fairly intensive autoimmune arthritis surgery. Dave is a super lovely guy and definitely has your interests at heart. He is very hands on (pun not intended) and pushes you to get the most out of your sessions, including personal home sessions. He custom built a number of contraptions that really helped push my recovery along. I NEVER had to wait in the waiting room, which is unheard of in NY.I chose Dave at random based on location convenience but would 110% recommend and use him in the future. Thanks, Dave!!
After having fractured my wrist pretty badly and having undergone surgery, I was sent to Dave Ricci by Dr. Raskin, my surgeon. Dave is one of the kindest, and most capable physical therapists I have ever had the pleasure of interacting with. With patience and motivation and encouragement he was able to restore close to full mobility to my wrist. Im so grateful for the work that Dave did with me, and I would recommend him highly to anyone needing hand therapy. Besides that, hes also just a really good guy.
Dave Ricci is the greatest! He is absolutely the BEST hand therapist & worth a trip from anywhere. I asked my hand surgeon & his PAs where they would go for wrist therapy & the answer was unanimous! I came to Dave a few weeks post surgery, all swollen & stiff. Dave has worked miracles on my wrist. Although I am, unfortunately, a slow healer, I have made tremendous progress. In addition to being the top hand therapist in the city, Dave is also a genuinely nice person who is kind, caring, gentle & always listens to his patients. He is innovative & a master of his profession. It is a pleasure to work with him & his great office staff. I would give Dave more than 5 stars if I could!
I saw David Ricci with a problem with my wrist. Before i went to therapy i could not push open a door without extreme pain. David explained what the therapy would entail. He was patient and made sure I did not experience pain while he was working on my wrist. He provided exercises to do at home that helped. Once i was able to bend my wrist without pain he suggested that there was no longer a need for therapy. The group was out of network for my insurance but they worked with me to make it affordable.
After having surgery on my scaphoid bone, my doctor recommended GC PT. Dave Ricci was a great physical therapist. His specialized, individual treatment was impressive, and I made noticeable progress every session. He does not apply one formula to each patient. Dave quickly determined my weaknesses and focuses his exercises in a way that helped me regain all of my flexibility and range of motion. His determination and personal touch to each patient are rare, and for those reasons, I would definitely recommend Dave for all hand physical therapy needs.
Dave was an outstanding therapist who progressed me through my recovery faster than I expected. He explained the work that was needed to regain strength and range of motion in my wrist, provided useful exercises that I could do on my own to expedite the process and was always sensitive to the pains and frustrations I had along the way. He had a full range of tools and techniques in his office and provided some custom take-home tools to target specific areas of need. He is also very personable and maintains a very pleasant and comforting environment in his office. My first call if I ever need help again!
I spent about 6 weeks having David Ricci work to rehabilitate my broken finger. He is a true professional in every sense of the word. He knows his craft and is a pleasure to be around. From the minute I walked into the office I felt well taken care of by everyone. Automated appointment reminders were extremely helpful. I would recommend David wholeheartedly to anyone in need.
I have been a patient of David Ricci since I had ECU tendon sheath repair in March, 2013. The recovery has been long and difficult; however, but for Dave and the team at Grand Central Physical Therapy, I do not believe I would have been able to have as successful of a recovery as I have had. After eight months, my recovery is almost complete and have recently returned to the golf course. I want to think Dave and the team at Grand Central for all of their help. During my time with Dave, I have witnessed many different types of injuries where Dave has been able to provide expert skills in helping other patients with recovery from their injuries, such as tennis elbow, golfers elbow and hand, wrist and finger surgeries. I strongly recommend Grand Central for any person who has the need for physical or occupational therapy. Thanks again Dave. Mitch B
Dave Ricci is terrific! He was my physical therapist after I broke my wrist playing basketball. He was always professional, conscientious, encouraging, and very kind. Throughout my treatment, he would clearly communicate his expectations for my recovery and which exercises I should be doing to facilitate my return to activity. With his able assistance, my wrist is now back to normal. I would not hesitate to recommend him to anyone.
I have known David Ricci of Grand Central Therapy as my occupational therapist for 3.5 years, receiving about 17 months of therapy in the aggregate after 3 invasive hand surgeries due to an aggressive form of dupuytren’s contracture.David is a proficient occupational therapist with excellent communication and interpersonal skills. His enthusiasm, problem solving skills and helpful nature have enabled me to effectively manage the disease afflicting my hands. David keeps focused on the goal and has a simple but well communicated strategy for keeping my hands functional. He listens attentively to my needs, and home and work environment and looks to both the short and long term for the health and function of my hands. David’s instructions are concise and clear. David’s “home-made” casts (to keep my fingers straight) has been an essential part of my healing and therapy. His attention to comfort is key as sustainability is the path to my wearing the brace for lengthy periods of time each day.My recent surgery was during the COVID pandemic. Even after elective surgery was allowed, I was not willing to have the surgery until I knew that David would be able to be my hand therapist. He opened his office for me. For that I will be ever eternally grateful. I could have gone to another therapist as I have been working from home and do not need to commute into NYC. However, I have had such success with David that I commute into the city from Westchester County just for therapy and then commute out again to work at home. The reason that my hands are as functional as they can be is due to David. I highly recommend David as your choice for an occupational therapist.
In need of occupational or physical therapy? This is the place to go, and David Ricci is the man to see!Until January of 2019 I had never had a major health emergency. Then, I dislocated and broke my middle finger playing basketball. Long story short, I ended up needing surgery to repair, followed by therapy to recover. At the end of a post-op visit with my surgeon to remove the pins from my finger, I let out a sigh of relief. My surgeon (who was also wonderful - Dr. Robert Strauch at NewYork-Presbyterian/Columbia University Medical Center) then replied with you know, many people find the physical therapy even more difficult than the surgery. Oy vey...Then, I found Grand Central Physical Therapy! Dave and his staff make physical therapy enjoyable. Everyone is extremely friendly and helpful. My finger is making significant progress recovering from surgery and its all thanks to Dave and the exercises (and gizmos) hes utilized and provided me with.If youre wondering if theres any pain in therapy - obviously I cant speak for others, but in my case, working with Dave, there has been NONE! He is very careful, knowledgeable and passionate about what he does. He takes great care and pride in his work - on top of being a genuinely nice guy who loves to have a great conversation and make the session fly by!Bottom line - I cant recommend Grand Central PT enough!
I was referred to Dave by my surgeon after I suffered a severe break to my (major) wrist which required 2 surgeries. Dave is very knowledgeable and realistic. He had thoughtful answers to my many questions and didnt sugar coat my prognosis. He worked hard to tamp down my impatience.Id highly recommend Dave. Ive always been a bit cynical about physical therapy, figuring I could do anything on my own. But because of the nature of my injury and the damage to my wrist, I had no alternative but to go through some physical therapy. Dave gave me a set of exercises to do on my own and worked with me, at first, once a week. He also created some tools that I could use on my own to help me with the exercises. Following his advice, I have regained much more of the motion in my wrist than either my doctor or I ever thought possible. I think working with Dave was critical to my recovery.
I dont write reviews.I was traveling abroad and dislocated my finger in April, and after having it reset abroad, came back and was referred to GCPT. I was unable to bend it beyond the slightest amount. I immediately started seeing David Ricci and amazingly after 3.5 months have near full ability to bend my finger. The entire team here is amazing, not just the amazing and delightfully funny David Ricci, but especially Deborah Redd who worked tirelessly to help me work in appointments around my requiring work schedule.Believe it or not my twice weekly visits became the most relaxing and enjoyable hours of my week!I would highly recommend this team for any therapy or rehabilitation needs you may have post injury or surgery.Bravo to David and Deborah and the team for all the great work you do!!
My experience at Grand Central Hand Therapy was fantastic! I came after a surgery completely unable to move my pinky finger and Dave got me back to full motion. Dave is extremely kind, patient and attentive to his patients. He is incredible knowledgeable and has many solutions for helping patients to increase strength, flexibility and motion in their hands. I would highly recommend going here if you are experiencing any injury or pain in your hands because this therapy could drastically improve your situation.
After fracturing my arm/wrist during a snowboarding accident last year, my surgeon sent me to Dave. He was patient, kind and immediately had a plan for recovery. After having been in a cast for 6 weeks, Dave got my mobility back quickly and without pain. Im now facing another potential surgery following results from my initial break and know that if I need PT Ill be calling Dave right away. Would highly recommend him to anyone!
David Ricci is definitely the best hand therapist Ive ever worked with. Since I have been through over 10 hand therapists in a long recovery, that is quite an accomplishment. Since my injury was quite unique, David went out of his way to help me design some splints that none of my previous hand therapists had come up with before, at the cutting edge of hand therapy if you will. Since I had moved to New York City just to have my surgeries, after I left, David was great with following up with me, and when we couldnt find a good time to have an appointmetn he did a Skype appointment with me on Thanksgiving Day. Thats going above and beyond the call of duty. All in all, extremely impressed with Grand Central.
My surgeon recommended David after I had surgery on my thumb. David helped me out with a perfectly fitted splinter which made my life so much easier right after surgery. Once it was time for physical therapy, he slowly and carefully helped me to get back to having almost everything back to pre-surgery times. He was always extremely professional and knowledgeable and we always had a great chat. I can highly recommend David!
I had the tenosynovitis in early June. As recommended by a colleague, I started to visit David Ricci in late June. The whole office is great! Deborah at the front desk is so nice and will answer all the insurance questions. For the first few weeks I was worried since the pain is still there, I just kept going. Dave is very careful, knowledgeable and passionate about what he does. After two months, the pain was gone! Thank you Dave and your team for making every visit so enjoyable!Highly recommended!!!
To echo what others have written, I would highly recommend Dave Ricci for hand therapy. Dave and his staff never made me wait for more than a few minutes, provided stress-free services and above all, great results.Dave is willing to answer any questions and encourages patient interaction throughout the whole process. His use of creative devices and methods allowed me to recover much faster than anticipated. His knowledge, therapy acumen and personality made for a great experience. If you require hand-related therapy Grand Central is the place to go.
After shattering my 5th metacarpal i had complex surgery and was in a cast for nearly two months. My finger had 20 degrees mobility after my cast came off and I could not come close to closing my hand. My surgeon prescribed 4 days PT a week and told me I would likely never close my hand again. After one month working with David Ricci, my hand was fully closed. After 3 months, i have over 100 degrees of motion. My hand is in full recovery.I chose to work with David based on his reviews online, even though he was outside of my insurance network. It is easily the best money I have ever spent. In addition to Davids professional acumen, he is an excellent person and very easy to be around. Despite my surgeon recommending 4 days a week, David had me come in 2 times a week for the first month and then 1 day a week, saving me time and money, while achieving our goal. He could have over-billed me and kept me much longer, but he is thoughtful, ethical, and basically a good-guy.The office staff is extraordinarily helpful, responsive, and professional. I have never had a scheduling issue and I have never once had to wait (even a moment) in reception. My experience with David and GCPT was certainly the exception to my experiences with most medical providers. That positive experience kept me coming back and ultimately was a contributing factor to my rehabilitation. After conducting my 3-month post-op follow up with my surgeon, he was astonished at my progress. As I think about my progress, David is the reason my hand is fixed and functional today. I would recommend him without reservation to anyone.
Tore my triangular fibrocartilage complex (TFCC) and went Dave Ricci at Grand Central Physical Therapy on the recommendation of my surgeon. It was my understanding that he is one of only a few my surgeon will recommend for rehabbing after a somewhat unusual surgery. It was clear to me that Dave is very knowledgeable and experienced. He explained the rehabilitation process clearly, and helped me understand exactly what I should (and should not do) in order to recover as quickly as possible and avoid setbacks. He helped me fully heal, and in less time than my surgeon expected. And to top it off, Dave is a really good guy.
I cannot recommend David Ricci + Grand Central Hand Therapy highly enough. I had a very worrisome case of tendonitis, which was especially debilitating because I am an artist, and just after a couple months a treatment, the constant pain I had endured over the past year had completely disappeared. David is an expert at what he does, he is an extremely responsive and attentive physician (he answered my innumerable questions and concerns, even outside of treatment hours) plus he’s a wonderful person. David genuinely cares about all of his patients and works hard to find solutions for their unique issues. Also, the staff at Grand Central Hand Therapy are super nice and friendly. Far from being a chore, I actually looked forward to coming to therapy every week.If I could give this place and David 6/5 stars I would. Definitely come if you are worried about your hands.
I am a senior, over age 60.I have gone to numerous hand therapy centers in New York City over the years. After my last hand surgery, I went to Grand Central Therapy. There I was treated by Dave Ricci. (a super nice guy with a friendly staff !)The facility was clean and inviting, and I absolutely love the expert, individualized attention that I received.Dave is highly skilled and his treatments were most effective. He is unparalleled and I highly recommend him.
Absolutley fantastic experience at Grand Central Physical Therapy and Hand Therapy, with excellent results. David Riccis knowledge and understanding of wrist ailments, and his mastery of the techniques necessary to restore both mobility and strength has allowed me to return to a very active lifestyle with no limitation. post my wrist surgery for torn S-L and TFCC ligaments, i had zero mobility, and was pretty scared that i would not be able to return to all my prior activities. i was told by 2 other physical therapists i would be lucky to regain 80-85% of my mobility. As an active 45 yr old, i wanted to get back to basketball, riding, working out, etc. At my first visit, David immediately started working on improving my mobility, and throughout my time in physical therapy, he furnished specialized braces to help the process along. The improvement has been even beyond my expectations. 3 months post surgery, David Ricci has helped me regain 95% of my mobility, and 100% of my strength. He is personable, attentive, and truly an expert in his field. If you have wrist issues, this is the place to go, and David is the best.
Dave is just awesome. Hes knowledgeable, compassionate and patient. He saved me from undergoing invasive wrist surgery to repair a torn ligament. After seeing Dave for 4months, l am able to do things and play with my 3yr old again without pain. If you have a problem with your hand(s) and want effective treatment, Dave Ricci is the man to see. Thank you Dave, for all your help.
I highly recommend Dr. Dave Ricci for any hand/finger/wrist injuries or problems you may have. I saw him after injuring the tendons in two of my fingers while climbing. The first time I saw him he did a very thorough examination of my whole hand and wrist to ensure that he addressed all the areas that were affected by the injury. He also tested my grip and finger strength. After confirming the acuteness of my injury he gave me exercises to do daily and instructions for when to ice, etc. After doing the exercises for a week, I then went back and we worked on a plan for next 5-6 weeks, adding in some strength exercises. A little over 6 weeks after my injury and my hand/fingers are feeling pretty much back to normal and I’ll be back to climbing soon. Thank you Dr. Dave for helping me heal my fingers and for the camping recommendations (as many others have said, in addition to being a very talented professional, Dr. Dave is very friendly and wonderful to chat with as well, which makes visiting him great).
I had an injury to my hand resulting in a scar and chronic pain. Dave was my hand physical therapist. Over the course of about 2 months, Dave was able to both reduce the pain and loosen the scar tissue significantly. He was very helpful and did a great job. I highly recommended him.
When I first went to GCHT with my broken wrist (it was in bad shape) I didnt know what to expect.David introduced himself, explained how we were going to fix it, sent me home with exercises and that coupled with PT got the job done. He is totally professional, knowledgeable and knows what is needed to help in the healing process. If you need a hand therapist, I would absolutely recommend David, your in good hands with him. - Thanks
I had a great experience with therapy for an injured finger, which is now completely healed. My therapist, David, was clearly skilled and conscientious, and carefully tailored the therapy to my particular condition. I would strongly recommend him to anyone needing hand therapy.
I had a bike accident and had to have the ligaments on the first two fingers of my right hand reattached. I chose David because he had great reviews and his location was super convenient for me. The whole experience far exceeded my expectations. Returning my right hand to full function was much more complicated than I thought it would be. David is an expert. He knew exactly what to do. He has top training and a tremendous breadth of experience. He also has an amazing bedside manner. I began to look forward to therapy instead of dreading it. And whenever I arrived with low motivation, David always re-ignited it and was patient with me. I could not recommend David more highly. My best ever healthcare experience! Even scheduling and changing appointments was easy!
I have known Dave Ricci for over two years, and he is the best hand physical therapist out there. Trust me. I came to him after two hand therapists previously injured me while I was under their care.I will spare you all the details, but my case was serious and complicated. I saw Dave after I had a fourth surgery to repair two tendons that ruptured twice with two therapists. I was nervous about having another mishap, and it took me a long time to trust anyone. Dave completely understood and explained to me what he was doing and why. He was (and still is!) honest, patient and caring. He is especially good with complex, involved cases that demand a lot of specialized attention. You can have the best surgeon, but if you dont have good therapy, you will not get good results. Dave has great relationships with NYCs top hand surgeons and is in constant communication with them about his patients cases. This kind of communication is essential in improving a patients outcome.I know that Dave really cares for his patients. He wants to see them do better, and he listens to them with a lot of empathy. I trust him completely. Thanks, Dave!
My surgeon recommended that I see Dave Ricci after my surgery to correct for Dupuytren’s contracture; and I am glad he did. Care started within weeks of my surgery and continued right through to my return to my pre-surgical lifestyle.Dave is truly the “Zen Master” of his field. Dave is a very experienced and skilled therapist. Dave assisted with emotional and psychological support, as well as with restoration of hand function.Dave quickly assessed and evaluated my condition and a variety of treatment methods were used to achieve set therapeutic goals. Dave’s post-surgical program consists of wound care, massage, passive stretching, active ROM exercises, and splinting.Dave early on was very clear that rehabilitation following surgery is a gradual process; and that he and I would take “1,000 small steps” together.I found by working with Dave, that Hand Therapy is both an art and a rehabilitation science.
When I started at Grand Central Hand Therapy, just holding a pen to write caused extreme pain in my forearm. Dave diagnosed me with tendonitis, muscle strain and significant inflammation throughout my forearm. Within a few weeks, there was noticeable improvement and at the end of 16 weeks, I am pain free. Daves care, knowledge and skill provided the recovery I needed to resume normal work and personal routines. Dave and the friendly reception staff combined with ease of scheduling and convenient location made the entire experience outstanding. Highly recommended!!
My experience with David Ricci at Grand Central PT has been absolutely wonderful, so lucky I found him. I had been treated with Xiaflex for Dupytrens contracture, and Dave created a innovative brace for me to use to keep my finger straight. Unlike a previous finger-only brace I had had somewhere else, this one was extremely comfortable and covered my whole hand. It pulled the finger up from below, rather than pressed it down from above. Fantastic difference it made.Dave is also a caring person with a gentle but firm touch. I have really enjoyed my chats with him. Cant recommend him highly enough.By the way, the whole staff at Grand Central is very nice and efficient, including the receptionist, Debra.
I arrived at David Ricci after I had broken my right hand and torn ligaments on the left hand. I had been feeling quite helpless and vulnerable with such a predicament. Davids extensive experience and thorough knowledge helped my hands to heal and to regain flexibility and movement very quickly. But more so, he listened when I told him that I wanted to go back to swimming as soon as possible to keep my mental sanity, and he built special splints for me to swim. David is special and unique in that way: he is knowledgeable, compassionate and understanding, while pushing you to make the extra effort with the exercises. He takes you seriously as a full human being. Hes the best!
I went to GCPTHT after some significant elbow surgery. I selected Dave Ricci, the hand therapist, because he was on the Hospital for Special Surgery approved therapist list. My hours with Dave were both productive and pleasant. My elbow quickly regained its full mobility and strength. Dave was knowledgable, and firm in cautioning me not to push myself too hard. I was more than pleased with Dave and the team at GCPTHT.
I highly recommend Grand Central Physical Therapy. Ive had a wonderful experience with Grand Central PT twice over the past 3 years. Through two separate injuries, Dave and Hector helped me completely recover from a fractured wrist/elbow and knee issue. Dave and Hector are very experienced in physical therapy, incredibly hard working, kind and genuinely care about their patients recovery. The office is conveniently located above Grand Central and they are flexible with scheduling around work hours (offering early morning, lunch and evening appointments). The space is clean, organized and well stocked with high-end PT supplies. The office staff is incredibly friendly and helpful in navigating the insurance coverage. If you are injured and need a physical therapist, Grand Central PT is the place to go. I will definitely go to them again if I have anther injury.
I arrived at Grand Central Physical Therapy after doing significant damage to my arm and shoulder. The humerus had been shattered and the elbow broken. A large amount of plates and screws had been inserted to steady the arm. I had lost half of my range of motion at the elbow. Touching my face or eating was impossible. In addition to this my shoulder had capsulitis and my arm could not be raised above my shoulder. I worked with Dave to regain the bulk of my range of motion in my elbow. This was not expected and I am truly excited with the result. Dave made the process, albeit long, easy to stick with. Rob helped get my shoulder back in working order. Once again the shoulder is functioning as no trauma had occurred. Physical therapy is a long and sometimes uncomfortable endeavor. Working with the guys at Grand Central made the ordeal much better. I had great results with the PTs and would highly recommend.
I injured a tendon in the PIP joint of my right index finger while rock climbing back in July. As an avid climber, this injury not only prevented me from participating in an activity that I love (climbing), but also caused pain and discomfort during daily activities, e.g. tying my shoes, pulling on zippers, making the bed, etc. I thought the injury would heal on its own, but after two weeks of rest the injury was no better and actually continued to get worse. At that point I spoke to a doctor and a couple of friends in the climbing community and received advice to seek out a certified hand therapist for treatment. I work in midtown and did research to find the best therapist in the area. David Ricci had numerous positive reviews and appeared to be well experienced in treating injuries similar to mine.I was able to get in to see David quickly and he proved to be incredibly helpful. I was pain-free through a full range of motion within 12 weeks of the injury. I have no doubt that this healing time would have been longer and less successful without Davids treatment and counsel.
As embarrassing as it was, I required surgery after attempting to de-pit an avocado. Needless to say, I wanted this experience behind me as quick as possible. Not only is David Ricci a master of his craft, but he is a great guy to boot. You may dread the therapy, but you will enjoy the company. He was referred to me by Dr. Polatche, whos the top surgeon in NYC, so you know you are getting the best of the best with regards to therapists with Dr. David Ricci
I was so impressed by the results I got from GCPTHT. I previously had physical therapy and thought it had been a waste of time. I went this time somewhat reluctantly at the suggestion of my hand surgeon and was just amazed by the level of competency and the results. David Ricci is such a professional and so very knowledgeable. It was a pleasure to deal with him. This was a completely different experience and I am delighted that I followed my doctors advice and went. I now have full range of motion in my wrist and no pain. I highly recommend David and GCPTHT.
Thank you to David Ricci for expert care and a caring and intelligent approach to bringing my hand back to full function. His brings such a wide range of skills and empathy — he is just the hand therapist to help one heal. Recovering from an accident is hard enough; it is good to know that there is someone like David Ricci to help one back to normal.
Broke my pinky when I fell on a trail run. I also had bursitis in my shoulder that I didnt try to address for over a year. Grand Central Physical Therapy and Hand Therapy was on Upper East Orthopaedics list of recommended specialists and it was near my office. I was able to go to one place to see highly qualified and professional occupational and physical therapists. Dave Ricci, the occupational therapist, worked with me to strengthen and straighten my pinky. He has a calm and soothing demeanor; is very good about explaining what he was doing and how the many gadgets he used in his practice would help the process; and is a great conversationalist. He made the experience very pleasant while being productive. Lisa Gemmel, the physical therapist, provided me with stretches and exercises to strengthen the muscles around my shoulder and Im now pain-free after nearly three months. Lisa has a very upbeat personality and is a pleasure to work with. The whole team, including Debra, Denise and Hector, is wonderful, patient, friendly and helpful. Thank you, Grand Central Physical Therapy and Hand Therapy! Im sure Ill be back.
Got into a motorcycle accident back in February, resulting in a broken thumb. Started therapy in April, and Im very glad and fortunate to say that Im already back in the gym with full range of motion.Worked with both Dave and Rob at GC physical therapy, and Ive got nothing but the highest regards for two of the most knowledgable and personable physical/occupational therapists youll find. Both Rob and Dave do an amazing and detailed job of monitoring every exercise that they have you do, and both are very diligent about how to best guide you back to full recovery by providing you with ample info on things to avoid and focus on at home.Highly recommend; for the skeptics out there, at least you have 59 other reviews to go through.
I had a terrible bike accident in August 2012. I broke my left wrist, one of my fingers on my left hand, both elbows and all my front teeth. After the surgery, my doctor (Doctor Raskin) told me: Andrea no worries you will be going to the BEST physical therapist in NYC. Raskin said: The Rolls Royce of therapist...I did not know what to expect when I met Dave but let me tell you, Dave (David Ricci is incredible. Not only is Dave a nice caring person but a very experienced and skilled therapist. I worked hard but in less of 3 months I gained back all the movement in my wrist and finger. I highly recommend Grand Central Physical Therapy!!! THANK YOU Dave!!!!
I’m an active athlete and I’ve been to physical therapy several times. By far, the best experience I’ve had has been with David Ricci. He’s outstanding. Do yourself a favor - any injury from the shoulder down (he’s not just a hand specialist - I had a bicep tendon surgically repaired), go see David. You’ll be gald you did.
I call David Ricci, Ricci the Magician. The therapeutic experience at Grand Central Hand Therapy is remarkable. Id broken my wrist, and had to have surgery. When the cast was removed, I had almost zero range of motion. After working with David, I, at this point, forget that, some months ago, I could only use on hand to to type, and perform tasks around the house and out in the world. Not only does David know what hes doing. He is incredibly bright and very funny. This means that the process of getting better, and the challenges involved in that process, dont seem unduly daunting, when laced and leavened with humor. He is completely engaged with each and every patient. Theres a genuine feeling of kindness and respect on the part of everyone who works there, from front desk to therapists. It simply feels good to walk in there. David, and Grand Central Hand and Physical Therapy, overall, are better than magic. He, and it, are the real deal.
My family has been going to see the wonderful staff of Grand Central Therapy for well over a decade now. Both David Ricci and Hector Mayo take the time not only to help heal their clients but get to know them on a personal level. They are the best and brightest and my first stop or call for any ache or pain. The staff at Grand Central Therapy is always there to help and accommodate to whatever works best for the client to ensure a quick and painless(as painless as possible) recovery.
David was a pleasure to work with throughout my rehabilitation process. Over the course of several months, David guided me in combining in office exercises and therapy with homework to help the healing process. As a person he is kind, caring, and very professional. I would recommend him to anyone looking for a hand therapist. Thanks for all the help David!
Dave Ricci made a huge difference in my recovery - helping me set goals around activities that were most important to me (yoga and biking), and ultimately helping me reacquire 100% of my original range of motion after I fractured my radius in two places and ended up with a titanium plate.I also found the office to be incredibly convenient to my office, the office staff extremely nice and accommodating, and the office itself to be very clean and friendly. For someplace one has to go to 15+ times - and often between stressful meetings - the friendly part was a pretty critical element (!)I was particularly nervous at the beginning as they were out of network with my insurance provider, but the office staff helped work through that piece of the challenge with no intervention from me (a first in my books for my out of network providers!).I would highly recommend them to my friends and family.
Recovering after surgery for a mallet fracture is no joke, but Dave helped me through it like a pro. Location is very convenient (right at Grand Central), appointments started and ended when they should have and the banter with Dave (and anyone else in the room) made the time fly by.
Not only is the location perfect, the entire staff is great. I worked with Dave Ricci and he helped take my finger from immobile to bending beautifully. He has the perfect combination of patience and expertise. Additionally, he makes time when you do not have an appointment scheduled to answer any questions or concerns you may have. If you are looking for top care, convenient location and a great staff- look no further. You will not be disappointed.
My name is Gary, and little over a year ago I completely destroyed my left hand in 4 places. I had to have two surgeries on my hands and over 100 stitching on the inside and outside of my left hand. The Therapist David was incredible. He made me all kind of things from scratch for my hand. The doctors told me that my hand was so bad I may only get 40/50 percent of my hand back. Today I am proud to say I have 88 percent of my hand back. I am able to work out, bench press dumb bells, chin up, and use my hand to do just about anything. David Was a blessing from God I must say. He wouldnt give up on me.Thank you a million again David... I mean every word.
I have had the chance to work with the good folks at GC Physical Therapy twice in the past year. The first time was after a severe dog bite that severed some tendons in my pinkie finger. It looked like a small thing, but took months to get my finger and hand working again. During that time, I met with Dave weekly to go through my exercises and stretches and routines that got me back to working shape. He was a complete professional, taking his role in my recovery very seriously. This wasnt just a soak in hot wax and a little massage for the finger. He had me doing increasingly difficult exercises which retaught my finger how to work. Although he takes his job seriously, he is a delightful guy, who is easy to talk with and understanding about pain threshold and the reality of doing the work to rehab your hand. I am happy to report that my hand and finger are 100% better. I sometimes have to really search for the scar to figure out which finger it was.A few months after my first encounter with GC Physical Therapy I gave birth to twins. The strain of a difficult pregnancy meant that my back and stomach, really my core, needed serious help. My back was seizing frequently and the pain I was experiencing was not enhancing my enjoyment of being a first time mom. After consulting with my OBGYN and pelvic specialist, it was determined I needed physical therapy. Due to my overwhelming positive experience with Dave, I called GC Physical Therapy as I recalled they provided all sorts of rehab options. I was happy to start working with Hector on my back and core. He too takes his job very seriously as he realizes we are busy people who need their bodies to work for them. He is helping me slowly increase my core strength while wisely focusing on other ancillary muscle groups that a mom of twins must strengthen. Again, he is not only excellent at the technical aspect of his job, he is also a nice guy. He is someone you are immediately comfortable with and someone you know is going to tell you the truth about the timeline and necessary work ahead.I dont hope to need any more physical therapy for a while, but if I do, I am so glad to know that I have the perfect place to go for the professional and accurate attention desired.Oh, and the two women and the front desk, who handle insurance and scheduling and everything in between, could not be more friendly, courteous and on top of things. This is a first rate operation, and clearly very easy to get to in the Graybar Building at Grand Central.
I have been healing a complex hand/wrist/shoulder injury for the past 2 years and came to Grand Central Physical Therapy because they were so highly recommended. When I came to GCPT, I was at the point where I had honestly lost hope that I would regain my functionality, but the rave reviews were true - they really are the best in the business. Dave Ricci and Hector Mayo worked side by side and have brought me back to doing all the things I love: tennis, rowing and yoga. I truly can not believe it as I had been through so many other PT programs already. These two are highly trained experts and are committed to helping you get results. Look no further, GCPT is the place to go.
Grand Central Therapy- Hand Therapy Center -David Ricci CHT, OTRDavid is the best therapist in NYC. . . Hands Down ! Working with David is a pleasure . . his easy going relaxed manner make you feel comfortable right from the beginning. His passion for his work is evident - he truly cares about his patients. It is easy to ask questions and he takes the time to explain his answers and why – you never get the feeling he is rushing you in and out. He never seems to be “watching the clock” but gives you the time you need and then some !He is willing to work with you and whatever insurance you may or may not have. I made the mistake of going to someone else first as their location was more convenient to my office. . and then finally found David to correct the problems, speed up my rehab, and get on the right path - it was like night and day. . .we called him the “Hand Whisperer”
I suffered a compound dislocation of my pinkie in mid-October and spent 5 months at a different facility. It wasnt getting better, so I came to David. In two weeks, I had noticeable improvement and it just continued! I am amazed and overjoyed at my progress and I attribute it to Davids skill and thoughtful approach. I heartily recommend him without the slightest reservation!
I have had a number of surgeries on my hand (carpal tunnel), wrist (motorcycle accident), and right middle finger (trigger finger). For all of these I have recovered completely in large part because I used David and Hector at Grand Central PT.After the surgery their knowledge, expertise and persistence taught me the correct exercises to do as well as gave me the impetus to do them. Their equipment was also a boon to my recovery: the electronic-stimulation, the paraffin soaks and the wraps helped a great deal. thanx guys. I hope I dont need to come back but if the need arrises, I certainly will.
Hector Mayo has put me together more times than I can count - he could put Humpty Dumpty together again. I am walking because of the work of Grand Central Therapy; and generally leading a full and complete life of physical activity which I credit them. My family has been treated for knees, backs, shoulders, and hands - all successfully. My hightest recommendation.

2022-08-03My doctor referred me to Grand Central PT after discovering a sprain on my left hand pointer finger. Dave Ricci, my hand therapist was instrumental to helping me recover. He gave me a buddy wrap on my finger that prevented me from reinjuring it, gave me exercises to do to increase flexibility and mobility, and gave me treatment each time I went in. I had been dealing with this injury since November 2020 with no relief for a really long time. Dave not only help me get over this, but he was a pleasure to talk to in all my sessions. If you are seeking hand therapy, I recommend Grand Central PT and Dave Ricci without hesitation.

2022-04-14I have never met a physical therapist like Hector: extremely competent and knowledgeable in his work, deeply dedicated to his duty, and genuinely caring about his patients and their wellbeing.I was Hector’s patient for nearly a year during the pandemic period when my neck pain significantly deteriorated. Hector was there at the time when I needed it most. The first day I met Hector I knew he was the right person. He answered all my questions, explaining root causes and consequences of my pain in a very clear and comprehensive way. And every time I had new questions, he always addressed them thoroughly. During the following months Hector was carefully guiding my exercises, monitoring my progress, and adapting tasks as needed. Just in a few weeks I started to notice improvements, with my muscles consistently strengthened. When sharing with Hector my joy of feeling no pain, I remember him saying that patient’s progress is the best reward for him. This made me realise and deeply appreciate Hector’s strong commitment and passion for what he does. For him, physical therapy is more than just a job, it’s a mission to help people and make them feel better, which he tirelessly, wholeheartedly and successfully accomplishes.I highly recommend Hector as the best physical therapist in the city, if not in the entire nation. I tried quite a few physical therapists before I found Hector’s practice, but none was so professional, intelligent and considerate as he is. And above all, Hector has a kind and compassionate heart which is precious today more than ever and is a blessing to anyone who is fortunate enough to become his patient.

2022-06-05I’ve seen Dr. Ricci for over 2 months after being referred by my hand surgeon to seek therapy due to lack of mobility in my left middle finger. I suffered a basketball injury where I displaced and fractured my finger. Once the pin was removed, Dr. Ricci got right to work creating an intricate brace that helped my finger gain full extension within a week of wearing and adjusting it! After full extension Dr. Ricci focused on reducing inflammation and improving the flexion of the finger. He gave me a list of exercises to do at home, along with some custom made straps that helped stretch my finger to greater range of motion. Not only did Dr. Ricci do a great job helping me recover from the injury, he also made every session enjoyable by having a friendly personality that made all the hard work feel easier to get through. I would recommend using Dr. Ricci for any hand therapy necessary and he has a great staff that is on top of scheduling making it easy to see him at the best possible time for your schedule!

2016-08-24I had a very bad fracture of my right wrist (my dominant hand) in December 2015 which required surgery, including the insertion of a titanium plate. My surgeon then prescribed hand therapy. Since I work near Grand Central Station, I decided to give Dave Ricci, Grand Central Hand Therapist, a try. Wonderful decision on my part. Dave is extremely knowledgeable, informative and highly skilled at what he does. And, with Daves help, I was able to get 100% of my wrist movement back. Dave and everyone else at the facility are super nice and the office is run very efficiently - timely appointments, clean, etc. The sessions were actually very enjoyable since Dave has a wonderful personality and the other patients I met during my sessions were all so interesting. I know who I would go to if I ever needed hand therapy again and I highly recommend Dave (and his colleagues) to anyone who needed physical therapy. The location is also very convenient.

2019-12-06I cannot be any happier with my experience at Grand Central Physical Therapy & Hand Therapy. After my hand orthopedist initially warned me that my injured finger will probably at best remain bent 30 degrees forever, David Ricci worked on it for 12 sessions with such expertise and care, that my finger is now straight as an arrow with its full range of motion. David, in addition to the outstanding progress he made on my injury every session, made each one a valuable learning experience, explaining the benefits and reasoning behind each treatment and exercise. Also, the professionalism of Deborah helping answer multiple questions about my insurance, and scheduling the whole series of sessions is to be commended. The friendly atmosphere of the place made it a pleasurable experience. Thank you very much!

2014-10-23After cutting tendon on my finger, I had to get surgery to repair the torn tendon. When I first went to Dave, I never thought my finger would be back to the way it use to be (I could barely move it!), but in about 4 months my finger has improved drastically. My finger is now functioning normally and I cant thank him enough! Dave gave me tons of helpful exercises to do at home and also during our sessions. I would recommend Dave to anyone since I had such a wonderful experience at Grand Central Physical Therapy. Dave is extremely helpful, genuine and personable. Scheduling appointments was always very flexible and they were accommodating to my busy schedule. I would definitely go back to Dave for any advice or help in the future!

2018-03-08I recently completed four months of physical therapy here for my shoulder and forearm under the expert care of Dave. I would highly recommend Dave to anyone in need of physical therapy. He is always professional and has a wealth of knowledge and experience. As I progressed through my treatment, he was very patient and took the time to explain in detail how each procedure would contribute to my healing and improvement. I really enjoyed going to Grand Central Physical Therapy and thanks to Dave, I have made significant progress and have much less pain. The front office staff members are very professional and friendly as well and are always willing to work with you as regards scheduling or even if you have a last minute cancellation. A great place!!
