I’ve been using this place for over 20 years and I’m in disbelief that they will not help me with my current situation. I purchased insurance to help me with situations like this I have a $250 deductible with a 90% reimbursement and a Of $6000. They refuse to work with me and help my dog who is in pain . Not all of us have thousands of dollars that’s why we have insurance to help are loved ones in need !!! I was turned away and talk down to like you don’t even exist. Wow I’m disbelief and very disappointedReceptionist gave me a name and number for another vet and said maybe they can help smh 😡
I have enjoyed bringing my cats here for over two decades. I have received friendly personal service every time. All the staff have always been pleasantly attentive to go above and beyond addressing any of my concerns that I have had. Even with the emergency situations that I have brought in over the years. The services here that are available for pets are great. I also utilize your grooming service with all my cats annual check-ups.. The groomer, Angel, bathes and gives such adorable hair cuts to my cats. Thank you all from James and Cindy-Lou Joyce
Dr. Harper is undoubtedly the best, most caring and knowledgeable vet. He answers all our questions and takes the time explaining everything to us. We have been taking our Sara and Lily to him for years. Best vet ever! We trust him 100%. Great staff. Always friendly and willing to fit us in when needed.
My cat passed away unexpectedly not that long ago. The experience I had with this animal hospital was nothing short of amazing. They were so supportive and caring. Rachael was amazing. She comforted me as I said goodbye to my boy and pet him for the last time. We took him there to be cremated. They called us in a way shorter period of time than expected. When my fiancée went to pick up his ashes he was overjoyed with the extra mile they went to make sure we had nice memories of our fur baby. Not only was the box for the ashes absolutely beautiful, they gave us a mold of his paw prints customized with his name and blue jewels for his baby blue eyes. They also gave us a small vial of his beautiful white fur. This was all way above and beyond what we expected. Thank you grand island animal hospital for taking such great care of my baby. I am so eternally grateful to you that I’ll have these beautiful memories to remember him forever ❤️
Grand island animal hospital is the best there is. Ive said it before in many many 5 star reviews. The staff is amazing. Rebecca is the best employee they have. For over the past 2 years shes been there for us and our dog blue through the worst times of our lives when she was sick. The only reason blue isnt scared to go into the vet is because of her! She treats us like family! Dr Harper also saved blue. Hes the only one who thought deep enough to see what underlying issues she could have. He didnt give up on her! Shes here today and healthy because of you guys. Today she had a bad flare up. You guys got me an appointment right away. Blue was initially very scared at her appointment but the staff made sure to calm her down. Once again thank you guys for everything. Ive recommended you to countless amounts of friends and family. Dr Harper and Rebecca! Wonderful staff and doctor! Another 5 star review from us!
Clean, friendly, and professional… but be prepared to pay $$$ - the prices are about double than competitors. I’m not exaggerating. And they included something called an “observation fee” for every vaccine my dog got because I didn’t buy the “package deal”. (Because I didn’t need everything in the package)…. I think the fee was $60 every time- just unnecessary. My coworker also went there because her dog has seasonal allergies and they wanted to charge her like $300 for allergy meds + vet visit, etc., etc., she just picked up some Benadryl from the drug store- problem solved. Shop around if you’re on a budget. I appreciate that if I need care quickly, they usually have openings within the next few days.
Very helpful. Easy to make an appointment and we got to go in with our cat to speak directly to the doctor. He recommended a dental which was clear and gave us a quote with a guaranteed waiver of office fee if we booked within 30 days. Everyone was helpful, prices seemed reasonable, and no pressure for treatments we didnt want. We came here after less than satisfactory service for an emergency at Banfield and I think this will be our new veterinary hospital.
Friendly, knowledgable, upbeat staff thats always willing and eager to take care of your babies! The compassion of the staff is amazing! They always go above and beyond, they’re willing to show/teach you and are always open to as many questions as needed. They don’t cut you short, they take the time to make you feel comfortable.
The staff has always been friendly and has a true love for the animals. They treat our dog, Chibi, like their own family! And the new Veterinarian, Dr Dane, is a FANTASTIC addition to the already solid team.Update: Dr Tse is another great addition to this already fantastic team!⭐
Only reason im Leaving two stars is because of Dr Harper everyone else is perfectly fine. Took my dog up for a broken nail (completely twisted) as we were discussing options on how to help her I was really confused on what he was trying to tell me sending mixed singals. After he left to help my dog I heard her crying down the hall in pain I dont even think they gave her pain meds to help numb it for her. When he came back in the room to update me and left to return to do whatever I heard him say as he was closing the door what a joke Im sorry Dr Harper what joke did I tell you? I dont remember telling any jokes? Is my dog a joke to you? Am I the joke? Or did you look in the mirror? Again his staff wasnt the issue they were all great polite and professional. Just doctor Harper that isnt.
If i could give 1,000 stars i would. I have brought my dog here since she was a baby. Dr Harper saved my dog by finding out she had a pancreas deficiency. If we wouldnt of found out my dog would not be here. I am so grateful. The front desk staff is incredible. Rebecca especially has given us outstanding customer service and support through everything we have gone through. I would not go anywhere else besides Grand Island Animal Hospital.
Total scammers at this Pet hospital. Our pup needed his ear cauterized from a bite that caused a tear. We called for a quote for that as well as a quote for them to sew up the tear and a nail trim. We clearly stated his history and he needs to be sedated for any treatment including the nail trim. At first we were given a price of $1,100.00 for all services. From the 15 min drive they re-quoted (?) the price three more times each time increasing, by the time we got to the office the quoted price went up to (at least) $2,700.00 with a $750.00 cash deposit for the sedation. I ended up leaving the office with no services given but our dog was given a milk bone treat and we were told the office visit was $100.00. I swear they have the decimal in the wrong place! Weve always had to have him sedated for nail trims at his regular vet with a maximum price of 75.00 ($60.00 for sedation, $15.00 for nail trim). Weve used the same vet on Hyde Park Blvd in Niagara Falls for the 12 years we have had him. We only chose GIAH because they claim to have a surgeon on-site for emergency purposes. This was no longer a emergency as we did get the bleeding to stop ourselves, but wanted the ear repaired for esthetic reasons. 3 years ago Bud had cancer surgically removed from his neck, given updated shots, all fluids and post-op medicines and all his follow up visits were included for a total price of $850.00 which also included boarding overnight for observation. So, when I say GIAH is scammers I am actually being very polite and giving them a compliment which they truly DO NOT DESERVE they also do not deserve the one star I had to give them to leave a review.
Although the location of a Vet in the Falls is quite a bit closer, the staff there are always rude so we have switched to GI Animal hospital and here we are always treated us with courtesy. The doctor(s) has shown concern and are responsive to our questions and have been willing to work with us since these are out of pocket expenses that can be difficult on our budget. We want to provide the best care we can for our pets so entrusting our furbies to GI animal hospital has been a good experience. And it seems the little guy agrees!
Not open 24 hours as advertised and when we showed up with an emergency for our dog we were turned away at the door and directed to go 30 min away. The saving grace to this rating was the tech who gave us advice on how to treat the allergic response ourselves with over the counter meds.
DO NOT BRING YOUR PET HERE IF YOU LOVE YOUR PET!! turn your car around!!! The amount they charge for medications is astronomical, and it seems as if they only care about money more than your pets needs. Be careful. I wish I read the reviews prior to bringing my pet here. Some of them are VERY bad. !!!! And unfortunately I had a similar experience to what the bad reviews stated. !!!!!
I have been taking my animals to Dr. Harper on Grand Island for over 35 years! My family sees Dr. Harper as well and has treated at least 25 of our animals through out the years and we have never had a bad experience. I cannot say enough good things about him. He truly cares about animals. He always takes my calls if I have concerns and if he is not available he calls back. My dog was recently diagnosed with diabetes and he called me just about everyday for about 2 weeks until he felt she was at a safe insulin level. Who does that?! His staff was also very concerned about my baby and they treated her as if she was their dog. I must however give a special thank you to Dr. Harper’s Vet Tech Sherry. She’s amazing and has been with Dr. Harper for year’s and they work very well together! The front desk people are very nice and his Assoicates are very competent as well. If you are looking for a good vet, I highly recommend Dr. Harper.
Outstanding caring knowledgeable staff. The Dr treating my sweetie boy was very caring and explained everything to me very thoroughly answered all my questions and fears.I have switched to this vet because of the care and compassion they all have shown my fur baby and myself. If this would let me Id give it 1000 stars.Thank you all so deeply.
A veterinary practice not to be trusted!I’m normally not someone who spends time writing reviews but I feel like I need to write this warning to anyone who has their pets going to Grand Island Small Animal Hospital. I took my 9-month-old puppy there to have his leg looked at because he has been limping now for a few weeks. I knew going in that I was going to have to pay a big bill because let’s face it, vets are not cheap. My puppy was found to have no breaks or tears, he was just badly bruised and needed time to heal. One thing I did not count on was the fact that I would later get a call 45 minutes before I was supposed to be picking him up telling me that he has a cut and needs to be stitched up. It turns out that my puppy had a huge gash on his opposite leg and needed 6 stitches! When asked how this happened, they were unable to provide an answer. They even tried saying that he came in looking like that and that they might have accidentally aggravated it. Come on now! Looking for some sort of compensation for them giving my dog new injuries he didn’t come in with, they told me that they would not charge me for the work they did to fix his laceration. That was very big of them considering that his wounds were inflicted by them. As a warning, if you send your dog there, start looking for a new vet.
I am truly happy with the service provided and extremely grateful for the staff. You saved my babies life and kept in constant contact with updates. Your staff was always pleasant and helpful no matter what time I called. I will definitely recommend your facility. Thank you from the bottom of my heart!!Zeus’s mommy.
Money is the most important thing to this organization, I wish there were laws in place for how they conduct business. Long story short I had over 400 cash in my hands while my poor 14 yr old Doberman was dying on there table at 4a.m. in the morning. Refused to do any treatment until the whole 500 was given. Crying i asked to use the phone so I could call my father to ask to use his cc to pay for treatment, forgot my phone at least they let me use theirs. Had to put him down that day 45 min later.and maybe just maybe I didnt have to?
I can only give a one star for the 1 experience that Ive had with this clinic. My parents were very distraught having tended to their 17yr old cat For a couple years and went finally to put the animal down peaceably to this clinic. I went with them to help out and was flabbergasted when I heard how much it would cost to simply euthanize the cat. No special arrangements no special things at all and it was literally 4 times as much as I expected. And when I googled how much it would cost for the area for a standard euthanizing I showed The lady at the counter after my parents left and they had no excuse or reason for charging my parents 4 times the standard amount. All they could say was they could provide the name and number for me to call later on to complain to the owner. What good would that do the owners sets the price. Nearly $500 to simply with no frills no extras euthanize a 17 year old cat that has already been through so much. There was no treatment or anything else provided. In my opinion this was quite simply taking advantage of to old people in a difficult Very emotional circumstance. I cannot in any good conscience say nothing and I cannot ever recommend this facility to anyone in need a one
Great experience. Glad to have our boy seen during this hard time knowing he was uncomfortable with an ear infection. We always have a great experience here. The staff is always so polite and friendly. We never feel rushed as the staff is willing to spend time with us answering questions and addressing concerns.
We needed to have bloodwork done for my dogs medication. My wife was told he only needed the one test done which was $80. I took him and they called that they did the $123 test and he still needed the $80 test. When questioned, they said he needed both which they said they told us. They did not. So $200+ later they then informed us they did not have the script pad and they would call tommorow and we could pick it up. The next day went by with no call, so we called and had to ask about it. My wife picked it up and took it to the pharmacy, in which the pharmacist asked why it was for 60 mg instead of his required 16mg. When they called the vet they claimed they wrote it for 16, but we were lookong at the script that said 60. We then had to go back and get the correct script and go back to the pharmacy with the correct script. No sorry for the inconvenience, nothing. So after almost overdosing our dog and doing mulitple tests we were not told about, it is safe to say we will be moving his vet, and i would advice anyone else to use caution with this vet. They are very disorganized and unprofessional.
We have been taking our German Shepherd to Dr. Harper since he was 3 months old. The boy is now almost 9 years old and has always been well looked after by the team at Grand Island Small Animal Clinic. The staff are friendly and make sure they get you treated in time.
I took a sick puppy in to see the vet. They told me it would be $2800 to make him well again. I went to my regular vet for a second opinion he sent me home with three medications and his office visit and it only cost $139. These people are rip off artist and they play on peoples emotions to try and charge them astronomical prices. They exploit people and they should have their license taken away
Dr Harper is just the loveliest veterinarian. I trust him implicitly. I have been bringing my cats to him and his staff for over a decade now, and just the best treatment imaginable that has kept them all healthy. Dr. Harper is the Doctor Doolittle of the Veterinarian world it seems. A perfect cat bedside manner indeed.
The staff here are absolutely amazing! I cant begin to put into words how thankful grateful I am for everything they did to help me and my fur baby. The staff was very very helpful and understanding, and took phenomenal care of my poor kitty and myself helping in any way possible. Absolutely above and beyond anything I could have hoped for. I cant say this enough but, THANK YOU ALL!!!!! I truly appreciate everything you guys did!
They turned my dog down while we were in there parking lot needing emergency help for our dog that had a random neurologic problem and was just barley with it in a matter of seconds, oh no Im sorry they gave us a number of a real veterinarian hospital . I just dont see how you call your self a hospital, I should have known better then going to you in the first place considering everything Ive heard about this place. but since it was such a extreme emergency and I pretty much live next door I went to here to just waste valuable minutes, I would give 0 stars if that was a option
What people need to understand about emergency services is that they cost more because theyre the only game in town at that point and they have a ton of overhead if theyre to staff their practice 24/7/365. Yes, youre going to pay more, but if your pet is in crisis, whats your option? I had to bring my cat in on Dec 31 because my regular vet wouldnt be open until Jan 2. I was the only client while I was there (our visit lasted about an hour). We were treated with care, we got test results back during the visit, necessary medications and follow-up care advice. It cost a fortune-- but without it, my cat wouldnt have made it to Jan 2 without suffering severe internal organ injuries. Pets cost money, and sick pets cost more money. Thank your lucky stars that there *is* an emergency vet with advanced technology around to help in life or death matters. There was a front-office person, at least two techs, and at least one vet in the office on a day when I very well may have been their only client, and believe me, Im more than happy to cover a fraction of their salaries for that shift. My cat is doing better thanks to their treatment, and although he still has to see his regular vet today, at least hes going in conscious with some energy instead of as a lethargic, malnourished, pained bundle of fur.
Dr. Krzemien is wonderful!! My animals love her and I am so thankful for everything she does for them!! She is so kind, very thoughful, and loves the animals she takes care of. Just a couple of weeks ago we lost our 18 year old beagle/lab and it was so hard to say goodbye. I honestly dont know what I would have done without Dr. Krzemien there. She was so supportive during the entire process and very comforting. Also, I very much appreciated the beautiful hand written sympathy card she sent us. I highly recommend you make an appointment with her for all of your furbabies.
Last night I had to put down my sweet Tiger. His diabetes was getting the best of him. I can’t thank the Vet Techs enough for all their emotional support. This was the hardest thing I ever had to do. This was the most loving affectionate cat and I really appreciated everything you all did for me and my baby. RIP Tiger!
Dr. Harper has always treated us and our dogs like family. He is an extremely skilled and experienced vet, and even puts us on a payment plan with expensive surgeries.I have heard that the other vet(s) are not nearly as forgiving with pricing, but I have only ever seen Dr. Harper.
If I could give a TEN star rating, I would! Dr. Harper has been taking care of my pets for 25 years and has always provided excellent care. Just last week, my cat had emergency surgery - complete urinary tract blockage. I cant say enough ... not only about the top notch treatment Willy received, but also about the care I was given as his owner. I received daily phone updates from Dr. Harper himself, including one on Thanksgiving morning. I called the office myself many times and was treated with care and respect each time from the staff. Willy is now recuperating at home and Im so thankful for Dr. Harper and his staff!
By far the worst vet service I have ever gotten. They over charged me by $280, when I got a quote and conformation by the receptionist. When I arrived they looked for my appointment could not find it in the system. I told them I wanted my cat groomed and they told me it needed a pre-physical. And was included in what I was quoted. Came back my cat was not groomed and I had a bill of $400. Highly would not recommend this place their a bunch of scams. Horrible by far the worst vet I have gone to in 20 years.
Please do not bring your pet here. Please dont. I initially came here with the cat I recently adopted from SPCA. I ended up here a week later as an emergency, only to spend $600+ on the visit, and three weeks later, my cat is still vomiting and there is no end in sight. The other reviews saying they only want $$ are true... and also the one about different doctors saying different things. The receptionists and vet techs make it painfully obvious the vets only want money... they are clearly ashamed to be there... and quietly warned me not to spend the money to leave my cat overnight.Money aside... and the fact that my cat is still very ill... here is a quick vaguely related tidbit about quality of the doctors here. The first visit the doctor asks me about my cats stitches... I tell her the SPCA told me they dont need to be removed... that they are glue/dissolvable. She says no, they need to come out in 2-3 weeks. So, I made an appointment to have his stitches removed. I brought him back for the suture removal (which happened to be 2 days after the terrible ER visit), only to have the vet tech and receptionist tell me after taking him back that he doesnt need the stitches removed... they are the kind that dissolve! No kidding!Oh, one other thing... my boyfriend was so infuriated about what I paid with no solution that he called the office manager about our experience. She flat out admitted that we paid at least $150 more than we should have. As an example, I paid the $95 emergency fee, and then the blood tests and xrays had an extra emergency fee tacked on! Also, the office manager claimed the line item for blood tests included urine tests, but I dont believe his urine was tested... not for the few minutes they had him back there, and also the doctor never mentioned it.Please, please do not go here. I am a nice, reasonable person, and would not leave a review attached to my name like this if I didnt honestly believe this place is a joke.
I took my cat there during the night from a neuter going wrong. Pus oozing out, I was scared my cat wasn’t going to make it (neuter took place at different vet).Yes, it was expensive because this is an emergency vet. I don’t mind putting money down to save my cats life. They brought me in a room, weighed my cat and then the ER vet, Dr. Hitt came in and examined. Took him in the back to clean up the pus to see where it was coming from. Dr. Hitt said she thought it was best to keep him over night to get antibiotics and fluids into him. I agreed, they brought Sabre back to me to say goodbye for the night. The vet tech could tell I was upset with tears rolling down my eyes but said he’ll be in good hands.Dr. Hitt called me the next morning around 8:30am, said Sabres fever had gone down and the pus is clearing up. But she recommend he stay another night. She also told me I could call at any time to check on him. Dr. Hitt also said Dr. Harper will be taking over the case since he is the daytime vet.Dr. Harper called me later that day to check in with me, unfortunately I missed his phone call but he left me a voicemail stating Sabre was doing good, explained what the next step was and to give him a call the next day to go over if Sabre could be released to me.Next day, Dr. Harper called me and said Sabre is doing very well, just wasn’t eating which was concerning him, I asked Dr. Harper if he felt Sabre is ok to come home. He explained that he felt Sabre could come home, however with the abcesse I would need a strong stomach to clean it out and I could come pick him up after they gave him a bath since he urinated on himself. Dr. Harper also said he would show me where/what to do when I came in.I showed up to get Sabre at the time I was told to come get him. The receptionist actually said they owed me money and refunded it back to my card. Dr. Harper was at the front desk and was extremely friendly. The vet tech brought Sabre out and said she will show me what to do since dr. Harper just got a patient in.Overall, yes I paid a lot but I love my cat and money doesn’t matter when it comes to his health. I was treated with respect as was my cat. He was very well taken care of. I was kept up to date on everything that was going on with him. I called them about twice a day to check on Sabre and they always kept me up to date.Sabre came home and ate a whole can of canned cat food. He must of just missed his momma. We have a recheck with Dr. Harper in 6 days and I look forward to it and of course making sure the wound is healing up properly.Update: took Sabre to his appointment. Dr Harper was amazing. He was so glad to see Sabre doing better and see his wound get smaller. Told me he was very glad I took care of his wound. Once he left the room, I could hear him in the back with the vet tech talking about how glad he was that Sabre is doing so much better and how good his wound looked. That’s how you know a vet really cares, when he talks about it when he’s not even in the room. I was also charged nothing as dr Harper wanted to see Sabre and make sure he was doing alright. We have another appointment in a week just to make sure Sabres wound closes up. Absolutely love Dr Harpers and his love for animals.
Do not take your pets here!Reading some of these negative reviews I can completely relate. There is so much more negative to add to the story, but here is the short version.Techs are great and sweet, other veterinarians there are great as well. Owner and his son are just terrible. I see why so many people complain about their customer service. The owner himself told me he continually has a lot of new staff; maybe if you learned to work better with others you wouldn’t have a continual staffing issue. I really hope the veterinarians currently there can find a better establishment to work for.I buy my dogs medications online and the owner likes to make it as hard as possible for you to do this, since he is losing your money. Most places just approve the purchase via phone or fax, but not here. They won’t even mail the script in or mail it to you, you have to go in and pick it up (I live 30 min away). Then when I told them I ordered 180 pills, they wrote the script for 60 and put in my chart I couldn’t get more until my dog had blood work done. Why does my dog need blood work? She was in less than two months ago, the great female veterinarian said my dog looked great! The meds in question are because my dog leaks urine, she has been on these meds for 5 years and will be on them for life, it’s not a big deal at all and has nothing to do with blood work. But they want to get my money somewhere since they won’t be getting it for her medication. I am not paying for frivolous and unnecessary testing for my dog or putting her through an unnecessary blood draw. What ever happen to caring about animals? Looks like the owner only cares about getting your money and if he isn’t, look out! I have never spoken with such a rude (supposed to be professional) person. He even said to me well send in the script for 60 pills they will give you the 180. I mean the guy doesn’t even make sense or have logic of any sort. How is he doing surgery on our animals?!?Obviously I do not recommend them at all!!!
I have now had two of my animals, a dog and a cat, treated by these wonderful people in emergency situations. The reviews here do not reflect the care, kindness, or knowledge that has been shown each time I have been in. Last night, my elderly cat went into kidney failure and had to be euthanized. I was shown such compassion by the staff and emergency vet--my sweet girl crossed the rainbow bridge at ease with their help. Animals cost money. Emergencies are expensive. GIAH deserves applause for their handling of extremely difficult situations in a professional manner.
Worst vet, dont take your pet here. The doctor doesnt even know what to do with your pet. I was telling him what was wrong with my dog and the doctor was just not helpful whatsoever. The only thing thats nice there is the front receptionist but the vet is very unrealiable and he doesnt even care about the health of the pet. Never again going back!!
Last year they decided to give my 11 year old Rottweiler a special vaccine shot. She was down for a week and it nearly killed her. She was so well cared for there was no reason to give her a vaccine. Also they swore up and down that my 8 year old miniature Doberman pincher needed her teeth pulled. 3 months after the operation she passed away, probably due to that operation. They only care about money and nothing else. Completely untrustworthy. My mother has two dogs and has a bad report with GI too. I now go to east aroura. BAD JUJU on DR. HARPER!
A+ service from everyone. I needed to get my cat in ASAP and they didnt hesitate to get me an appointment and when I was there everybody was pleasant, listened to my needs, answered my questions and explained things very well in a very pleasant way and the caring and concern for animals
I cant say enough about Grand Island Small Animal Hospital and Dr.Chelsea Krzemien. We have two rescue dog that are family and with rescues can come health or issues just going to the vet. Everyone from the front counter staff, nursing and Dr. Krzemien I think are great. We have been treated wonderfully, Foxy our little girl was terrified to walk into the door. Dr. Krzemien had her warmed right up to her. Foxy is no longer terrified to visit the vet anymore. We had an emergency visit with Foxy and I think I was more worried then Foxy was.Panzer is our big Newfie mix, he is very easy going except with certain procedures. Being a gentleman most of the time (7yrs) old he has a uncertain past as he was also a rescue. Dr. Krzemien worked with us to figure out his water and food issues. Determined his kidneys and endocrine system were working correctly and recommended a diet change and an allergy medication. Panzer is doing great. It didnt happen over night, but he is not pulling his fur out, licking causing hot spots or excessively drinking water anymore. Id say Dr. Chelsea knows her stuff.I chose Grand Island Small Animal as our vet because we are Island residents and prefer to support local and to have a emergency services when we need them.I read the negative comments and while I dont know the details, I can say that I am very pleased, our pups are happy and healthy and I attribute that to Dr. Krzemien and the wonderful staff.
I went in for my first SPCA free visit, next thing i know my cat is getting shots that i had no clue he was getting and only to find out that he was actually too young to get the shot in the first place. Ive been working sales for 5+ years and i can tell you, the amount of upselling and guilt tripping at this place makes a customer feel like their animal isnt the priority.
I recently lost my dog and had to have him cremated going through here as It was his primary vet. Looking at the cremation paperwork he was taken care of on January 23rd, it took until today when I called (jan 31st) to get his ashes back. I was told that some came in overnight/ in the morning, so I wasnt called (and probably wasnt going to be) to let me know I can pick him up? We had the same issue with our last pet we had cremated through here as well. I just dont understand how it took longer to get his ashes back than it did to have the actual service performed.
We took our toy poodle here for a couple of years to get his shots. I felt like the vet was condescending and rude at times. The kicker is that we moved about 6 months ago and called for our dogs records and they have absolutely no record of him. How do you completely lose a chart? I am very disappointed. Luckily I kept most of the records myself, however this will end up costing me money in getting some shots redone.
The staff and doctors at this hospital are some of the most loyal and heartfelt people that Ive had the pleasure of not only going to and working along side of. They have always treated my dog with so much love that its an actually treat to take her to the vet. Its understandable that some people can have bad experiences at every place, but I can truthfully say that sometimes it is a misunderstanding and sometimes it can be the situation. For the gentleman that was upset with his pet with a possible urinary tract infection- I personally worked along this case with Dr. Kelver and she was extremely upset that you were unsatisfied with the visit- explaining that an exam was completed and offered to bring your pet in that day or at a week recheck that you declined. I know her personally and she cares so much for the animals and actually comes from poor background so I very much doubt you were a car payment. Also you said yourself she talked to you in the room- can we go to the doctors office and not be charged an appointment fee? I hope that you do find a vet that is more to your liking, but you will not find one that more compassionate as those at grand island small animal hospital!
I boarded my dog there for a long weekend. To start, I was told he needed a checkup by their vet, despite the fact I produced all his records including his yearly check up at the Animal Kingdom not 6 months earlier. Then, when picking him up, I was tried to be upsold a $540 tooth cleaning even before I saw him! And told that if I dont it in the next week the price goes up $100! Then when he came out, finally, he had a cut on his nose. Likely from sniffing or trying to escape the crate. Not their fault, but they could have at least told me. I know their vets are very good, but being upsold so much is quite off putting.
Almost a year ago I took my dog in to have her tooth extracted, they killed her. Now they have a collection agency after to pay $2500 for what? Killing my dog? Great place to have your pet put down, though they seem to be a little overly jealous about it. Horrible people.
Ive had a great experience at GISAH. I came here from another provider, where I felt like I was being upsold a lot. I havent found that here. In particular, my 10 year old small dog injured his knee. I brought him in and was seen by Dr. Kelver, who had been recommended to me by a friend.Dr. Kelver did a nice job letting me know that this was a pretty common injury in my dogs breed, especially considering his age. She really worked with me on medication to get the swelling down over the course of a few weeks to promote healing, rather than rushing into surgery. Once the swelling was down, his knee had a chance to heal. Now a year later, my dog was in for an update on shots and upon examination, was told his knee was almost like new.I am really grateful to Dr. Kelver and think she, along with the staff, has done a great job by my furry BFF. Id recommend GISAH, for sure! Im sorry I didnt speak up about a job well-done sooner.
I have been a long time customer of the Grand Island Small Animal Hospital and for the most part been very happy. I was slightly put off when my beloved fist four legged family member unexpected had to be put down and the only concerns the receptionist at the time had as my dog was dying was by what means I was going to pay. She was ultimately taken care of and I moved on. I now have another dog who had a skin condition that couldnt be diagnosed or taken care of after spending alot of money with several local veterinarians, Dr. Kelver quickly diagnosed the problem and identified a remedy (5 stars for Dr. K) who prescribed a rx drug which is only available through Vets. Dr. Kelver has a genuine love of animals that is palpable but I am very disappointed int he practice owner Dr. Harper who had a new doctor return a call I made to him regarding the outrageous price of $168.00 for 60 pills of this needed drug. He is not however the greediest vet locally within a ten mile range, I received prices ranging from $118.00 - $705 for 60 tables of this drug locally; a drug that is sold to veterinarians at every dosage level for one flat reasonable price for My life has been about helping the hopeless and vulnerable and exposing wronging when I see it or it is brought to my attention. Dr. Harper should understand that not all of his patients are from the affluent suburbs. Stay tuned as a result of Dr. Harpers indifference to my call I have engaged my friends in local and national press as I think I can reasonably assume that this is one of several drugs that vets can use to take financial advantage of. Dr. Kelver is phenomenal and I am so grateful to her for finding a solution to my pets condition, but the main focus appears to be financially motivated as such the 3 star rating
I agree, I would never take any animal there again. Nothing like being yelled at by your vet while he is putting your dog to sleep. My dog nipped at him, and he started yelling at me that I should have told him he was a biter. Pardon me, I never stuck him with a needle before, so I didnt know he was a biter when you did that.Dr Harpers bedside manner needs a lot of work.
I was under the impression this office offered 24 hour emergency care, having checked the website prior to bringing my pet there, it states 24 hour emergency care, 365 days a year. When I called from their parkinglot with my pet who was having an emergency, during open office hours ,i was told over the phone there was nothing they could do, and I would have to take my dog to another vet hospital.
If I could give them a 0 that I would do.Do you have a pet you love? Does your pet need medical help? I hope this story will help you6/25/2016. I woke up in the morning only to discover that my Dog Onyx was having great difficulty to stand up and walk. It seemed like he didn’t have control of his legs, yet he was not complaining of pain.I decided to take him to the veterinary, but my veterinary did not work on Saturdays. A fast search online took me to the Grand Island Small Animal Hospital. When we left the house, Onyx was still walking, with great difficulty but still walking. While coming down the outside stairs, at the middle of the way I decided to pick him up and hold him in my arms, I took him to the car, opened the door and put him in. At this point he did not complained of pain; he let me hold him and was cooperative. At the hospital I requested emergency service, and after a wait and $95 pay we were conducted to a room, where a veterinary, the owner, Dr. Harper entered the room and inspected the dog. The dog was showing some pain already, but he mostly let the Dr. manipulate him. The Dr. said to me that it appeared that the dog had some problem in his neck area, that he was going to put together an estimate for the treatment of the dog. After a while I was presented the estimate that included two days in the hospital for observation, X-Rays and lab work. The cost for the diagnostic tools was $2,000. I really could not pay that amount for diagnostics only, but finally, we agreed on a testing procedure that was $922; it included not only the X-rays but lab work. They were really adamant about making the payment before anything was done. With the addition of the prescriptions, in total, I paid the Grand Island Vet Hospital $1.058.The major problem is that even after all that money, I did not get a diagnostic. They told me to take the dog to a veterinary radiologist or to Rochester to get an MRI, so Onyx remained “undiagnosed”.Were they serious? Did really they think on the dog well being or they really did think on money? Just consider this, The diagnostic tools they had were the same my veterinary at The Village vet used to diagnose Onyx with cancer in the bones and a tumor in the spine that could not be treated, that at that time I rejected a prescription for treating ticks, and another for the pancreas that would have added to the above price probably around $100.00 more, However, I had to ask for a medicine to help take care of the pain, and the veterinary gave me another one to be given alone with the pain medicine, their price took the total balance to more than $1,100. I asked for the results of the tests to take them to my veterinary, and they told me they would send them to her. I told the receptionist that my experience with them had been really bad, that they all said they loved the pets, but that was a lie because all they really cared was about the money, and they didn’t care at all for the animal. One of the directions for me after take Onyx home reads: “No running, jumping, or access to stairs” Imagine that direction on a dog that is unable to stand or to walk. Is it not worst than a joke?At the end, the veterinary at the Village vet was sent only the lab results. I had to go back again to Grand Island to ask them to send the X-rays as well. After all that was the important test. Once received, my vet gave me unfortunately a fast and terminal report Onyx had cancer in the bones and a tumor in the spine. They, at Grand Island couldnt or didnt want to give a diagnosis despite that they had the same X-rays. Was that the reason they didnt send the X-rays when they sent the labs?Unfortunately this is not the whole story, but would I go back to them again? Oh! You may answer this question yourself; if you read the whole article it is very easy.UPDATE.EVERYTHING i SAID HERE IS TRUE ( AND MORE) AND i HAVE DOCUMENTS AND EMAILS TO PROVE IT. I PUBLISHED A WHOLE PAGE WITH THIS STORY IN A LOCAL NEWSPAPER. THATS ONYX THE DAY BEFORE HE DIED. I WILL CONSIDER LEGAL ACTION FOR CALLING ME A LIAR..
Very miserable receptionist, I was worried enough as it is about my dog and I spoke to a woman asking for advice on what to do, and just a very bad attitude from whoever it was over the phone who made me feel even worse than I already felt . When you have to see your dog in pain you are upset enough as it is so having somebody who works at an animal hospital not even act concerned or try to make you feel a little bit better really makes you not want to even refer them to people
If you want your dog to die, bring it here. I am so appalled this place is allowed to practice! I brought my dog here in an emergency, and all three DRs told me different things. I spent an outrageous amount of money just for stabilization, no solution......and still my dog was worse off than when I arrived! I pulled him out after a whole 24hrs! Do yourself a favor! AVOID THIS PLACE!! EXPERIENCE MEANS NOTHING SO HOWEVER MANY YEARS THEY HAVE BEEN PRACTICING....KEEP LOOKING FOR ANOTHER VET, YOU ARE A NUMBER HERE.....AND BY NUMBER I MEAN DOLLAR SIGN!! THEY QUOTED ME TOO MUCH FOR MY SURGERY TO WHICH I MUST PAY UP FRONT.!!! YEAH RIGHT! SHOULD HAVE BEEN A RED FLAG! I went somewhere else and paid 1/3 and was treated like a family member, not a peasant! if you have thought about coming here DONT!!!
The staff is super friendly! The clerical staff explained the the break down of cost of the shots to me. Helped make my decisions easier for the non-mandatory shots. We love our girl so much, but it can get really pricey. I thought it was very considerate of them to tell me upfront how much it was going to cost. It was a transparent process and I thought it was top notch. The staff was so incredible during an urgent visit. I was so scared for my little sweetheart but they were calm and made every interaction feel seamless and safe. Thank you to everyone for being so nice! Thank you for being open in the evening for after work appointments.

2022-06-12We are on a 2 month trip in an RV from Texas. While visiting Niagara Falls my Aussiedoodle got sick. I googled closest vet to our Park, called and had an appointment in an hour. The support staff was great as was the Doctor.

2022-04-01Took my 14 year old Boston Terrier to the Grand Island Animal Hospital today. Everyone (receptionist, technicians, doctors, etc.) was very friendly and listened to what we needed. Prices were what we have come to expect. We were in and out within an hour even though they tested her blood while we waited and also had to get paperwork from our old vet. Would definitely recommend!

2022-07-09I would not recommend going to this vet especially in the case of an emergency . They incorrectly diagnosed my dog and refused to provide me with copy of my dogs X-rays so that I could obtain a second opinion. Thankfully, we did obtained a second opinion because my dog did not have a dislocated hip and did not need surgery. I unfortunately had to pay for another set of X-rays because this place would not send them over. They should be sending the family home with a copy at the end of the visit. Lastly, if I could give zero stars, I would have done so.

2022-07-16After calling all over town for someone to see my sick cat, this was the only place that helped me. They were all very helpful and friendly. The young girl at the front desk was very nice and you can tell she loves her job.
