I came here with my wife today and I had such an amazing time! Not only were the staff there very courteous and helpful, Ian in particular was a pleasure to have as an instructor. He went above and beyond making sure we had a great time and he really motivated us to do our best while climbing. What a fantastic experience! Thanks!
Great experience, very clean, and hard sets. The staff is very nice and helpful. Very tall ceilings make top ropeing and lead climbing perfect and there is still some room for nice bouldering. Only con are the crash pads that do not wrap around the entire bouldering wall.
Awesome place.. Was my sons birthday and wanted to do something different. He just turned 10 and my little one is 5, so the two tried it. They had a blast, Madison was great and patient with the boys. She took her time, answered all the questions they had and coached/encouraged them. We will definitely come back and thank you so much for making my sons birthday even more special.
Note: I am a beginner.I love that we now have a climbing gym in the HV. I have been twice and have been debating getting a membership for some time now. It is a fun workout at a clean facility. I have not tried the rock climbing yet only the bouldering. The staff is very friendly and knowledgeable. I am dying to take my son here where he is a little older (he is 3 now) not sure when you can start the kiddos off climbing...Worth checking out for a fun date & good workout!
I brought my friends daughter she had a great time. I would recommend going with someone who can get belay certified because there arent many autobelay or make an appt to have an instructor . The bouldering wall is huge and has a ton of routes . I would definitely recommend this gym. They have specials too!
My husband and I moved to the Kingston area last year from NYC and this is the only roped gym within an hour drive or so of us. When we cant climb outside because of the weather, we either go here or to BCs in New Paltz for bouldering. On the plus side, its a large, clean gym, and its never crowded (of course compared to our city gym, nothing is crowded). The negatives are part corporate policy, and part specific to this gym. A day pass is $21, which is expensive, albeit cheaper than the city of course. A family membership is minimum 3 people. At the Cliffs in LIC my husband and I had a family membership which did save us a bit of money, and were disappointed to find out we cant have one at Gravity Vault. The setting is inconsistent - some of the routes are great, and some are absolutely awful. You do get that with most gyms, and setters have good days and bad days, but weve noticed some really awful awkward setting here on a regular basis. The routes dont get changed up very often - some can be up for 6 months. Then when they strip the routes, they sometimes strip half the gym at the same time. And not necessarily just for competitions, but on a random weeknight when we come in after work (and we dont always check the calendar to see when thats happening, because most gyms dont strip half their walls at once). So when half of the walls are bare, why are you still charging people full price when theres like hardly anything to climb?? Customer service is meh - some of the people at the front desk are nice and helpful, others dont seem to give two hoots about you, but weve encountered that at most gyms. Lastly, the corporate policy of having to use a Grigri for leading is nonsense. Weve never had to use them at any other gym and have been leading trad for 10 years and never use them outside. Even if youre very experienced and you just have a moment of inattention, your leader can still deck if youre using a Grigri, just ask Ashima. And if safety is really a concern, then perhaps the staff should be a little more experienced with rigging systems ahead of time instead of figuring it out on the fly, and being more careful about not dropping stuff and having to shout rock! in a gym. That sure was a first for us.
Gym is great however be wary of buying from their shop. Had a $155 pair of shoes break in 3 day and was just brushed off to take it up with the manufacturer. Gym wont stand behind the products they sell.Edit: Other shoe broke too. Gym reached out and was able to get them replaced. Also made good on a fee requires to warranty first pair. Thanks!
Took a rappelling clinic where Mark (hope I got his name right, I’m horrible with names) was the instructor. He was super clear and informative. I was able to go outside the next day and apply what I learned with ease... sooooo he must be good cause I didn’t die and I’m writing this post 🖖🏻 Glad I decided to learn in a gym first and not outside.
On the whole the gravity vault in Poughkeepsie is an okay gym. I expected more from such a large chain. Despite the large surface for bouldering, the routes all seem cramped. Routes can be a little difficult to follow as they are marked only at the beginning and then use holds by color to designate the route. Normally this works fine fine; however, frequently to Route will diverge from the same start hold. Routes of similar colors are also frequently placed near each other, this makes it even harder to follow. I did not top rope while I was there, but those routes seem to be much better. There are a few autobelays and all stations seem to have grigris available.

2021-10-24My oldest is on the spectrum, my youngest is an advanced 4 yo. Owen our instructor was phenomenal with both of our boys. He took the extra time with our child who’s on the spectrum, gave him confidence and helped him reach the to, literally. My 4 yo is going on 25, very smart but sometimes can be timid and shy. Owen recognized that when he looked at the wall with intimidation and a bit of fear. He allowed him to climb and repel at his pace and gave him the confidence he need to reach the top. Thank you to the staff at the gravity vault. This will be a regular outing for our boys.

2021-09-11Had such a blast. Timing for all levels of experience here, as a newbie I had a fantastic time doing a one hour lesson with an instructor belaying us. Now I am hooked!

2022-05-30Compared to other prominent gyms in the U.S., this gym is mediocre, IMO. Compared to what was available 30 years ago, it’s amazing. You can definitely get a workout here. It has a good amount of terrain for toproping and bouldering. It is clean and spacious, well built. Couple of fun but highly textured cracks. Good wifi. Good burrito joint next door. What’s missing - the weights and accompanying workout area is tiny and very limited; not a good place for cross-training and getting a healthy workout including antagonistic training. For cardio, there is one cheap non-electric bike with annoying moving handles, and one row machine. Fingerboards are on textured walls so your tips get roasted. No shower in the bathroom, so off to work or out on the town smelling like a workout. Only two auto-belays and limited grades at each one so if you’re alone you’re doing the same routes over and over again, but at least they have two. The bouldering walls are pretty short and have a limited number of moves. The lead and TR walls are short compared to modern high end gyms. Crunch Fitness is next door to complete the workout and get a shower.

2019-01-03Our guide was so incredible with the kids and so helpful. He made each child feel so comfortable and each one gained their trust with him. The entire time he was so encouraging, funny and fun. I couldn’t have asked for a better person to be with the kids that day.Calling to book the place was a NIGHTMARE. I felt so incredibly unwelcome, as if they didn’t want kids there. The price changed several times each time I called, then lastly they called the day before to let me know they were going to have to cancel my party because they didn’t book enough staff that day. The 3 men I spoke with on the phone were so unfriendly, rude, not helpful and just turning me off from ever going there.Gravity Vault can be a great place for kids to get out the energy, get some serious exercise, learn something new and out of the norm for them.

2021-12-20Had my sons 11year old party here after he enjoyed his week long summer camp. Was a hit. The young men helping run the party did an awesome job! Attentive and patient with kids especially with beginners. Definitely recommend!

2021-11-23Excellent gym. Good routes. Staff is very helpful with one exception. Tall guy with a dark beard has been very rude on multiple occasions. Seems to go out of his way to pick on new climbers. Other than him absolutely love the gym and the staff. Much better than the Jersey gravity vault.

2022-02-05Amazing staff. My 8yos and 13yod take their kids class and they LOVE IT! Just had my sons birthday party there and it was perfect. Room was set to go. Owen is an asset to their team and I couldn’t say enough wonderful things about him. He knows how to keep the kids engaged and having fun.

2022-02-19This place is amazing. If you have even thought about going you totally should. Kids 5 and up will have a good time, but its probably better for kids over 7.
